The JPM quant then explained that "Trump’s betting odds started plummeting with the onset of large protests in early June. During the month of August, Trump was as much as 25 points behind and investors took Biden’s election for granted (we cautioned this may be premature). However, during the month of August, Trump’s betting odds started improving, with the largest increase happening over the past week. Currently, betting odds have Trump virtually tied with Biden."

Israeli Prime Minister Claims ‘Many’ Arab Nations ‘Lining Up’ To Normalize Relations

Tel Aviv is in talks with ‘many’ Arab nations that are ‘in line’ to establish relations with Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed in the wake of the UAE ‘normalizing’ relations with the Jewish state.

“There are many more unpublicized meetings with Arab and Muslim leaders to normalize relations with the state of Israel,” Netanyahu said at a joint press conference with US National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien and Jared Kushner, the White House senior adviser

The prime minister did not specify which Arab nations are involved, but he claimed that other Arab and Muslim leaders are lining up to normalize relations. He further asserted that the UAE’s decision to normalize relations with Israel has deprived Palestine of its ‘veto’ on peace between the Jewish state and the Arab world.

UAE’s president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has just signed a decree abolishing a 1972 law banning any deals between the Emirates and Israel. The move is a part of the implementation process of the normalization agreement mediated by the US and signed earlier this month.

The deal was sharply criticized by Palestinian officials as well as by some other nations, such as Turkey, that accused Abu Dhabi of betraying the Palestinian cause in pursuit of its own interests.

On Monday of this week, the first direct flight between Israel and the UAE will carry a joint US-Israeli delegation led by Kushner and Israeli National Security Adviser Meir Ben-Shabbat to the Arab state. An Israeli Defense Ministry delegation is also expected to travel to Abu Dhabi soon.

While many Arab rulers have maintained secret relations and collaboration with Israel for many years in varying degrees of substance and significance, the official normalization of relations with Israel absent a conclusive and comprehensive peace agreement that is acceptable to the Palestinians remained a step too far for most Arab and Muslim countries.

A recent report by the Jerusalem Post comments that, in the wake of the normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, there have been rumours that several other states could be next to sign an agreement with Israel. Noting that there are still considerable hurdles to normalizing relations with some states in the Middle East, the report argues that there are others who view the UAE decision as a trial balloon and will adjust their official postures based on how the next weeks and months play out between Jerusalem and Abu Dhabi.

The report compiles a list of five countries that it considers are most likely to normalize relations with Israel in the near future.

Why Kenosha Police Officers’ Use Of Force On Jacob Blake Was Justified

Most people have no understanding of what constitutes ‘reasonable force’ for police. Yes, it sometimes includes shooting a man, in broad daylight, in the back seven times.

Let’s Go Through Legal Principles for Use of Force

Well-established legal principles govern the use of “deadly force” by law enforcement officers. Initially, it is important to stress that the law is clear that an officer cannot use deadly force “merely to prevent a felon’s escape.” Thus, shooting Blake would not be justified based solely on the fact that there was an outstanding felony charge against Blake and the officers were attempting to arrest him.

However, while generally police may not use deadly force to effectuate an arrest, the Supreme Court has made clear that deadly force may be used if “the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a threat of serious physical harm, either to the officer or others.”

In the videos, Blake appeared to be armed with a knife. It has been established that a knife was found in the car he was reaching into, although whether he possessed it during his altercation with police is unclear. The mere fact that Blake may have been armed with a knife, though, also does not justify the shooting. Rather, objective reasonableness is determined based on “whether the totality of the circumstances justified the use of force.”

In determining the objective reasonableness of force, consideration is given to the severity of the crime at issue, whether the suspect is actively resisting arrest or attempting to evade arrest by flight, the suspect’s demeanor, whether the suspect is intoxicated or noncompliant, whether the suspect has a weapon, whether the officers ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, the distance separating the officers and the suspect, and whether any hostile motions with the weapon were made.

The key question in this analysis is whether the suspect “poses a threat.” “A nascent threat can be sufficient; it need not materialize to the point of harm.” Thus, an officer need not wait until a suspect knives or shoots someone, but “may anticipatorily use a weapon to protect himself or others.” In other words, “[i]t is the perceived threat of attack by a suspect, apart from the actual attack, to which the officer may respond preemptively.”

Put otherwise, “a reasonable officer need not await the ‘glint of steel’ before taking self-protective action; by then, it is ‘often . . . too late to take safety precautions.’”

Pittsburgh Heckler to Biden, “Hey Joe, You Finally Got Out of the Basement!”

Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden made a campaign stop in Pittsburgh Monday where he gave a speech and visited a fire station where he delivered pizzas.

When Biden arrived at the fire station, he was heckled as he stepped out of a Secret Service vehicle by a man reportedly waving a Trump flag who was standing on a truck just down the street, “Hey Joe, you finally got out of the basement!”

The heckler said a couple things difficult to hear on video but Biden, still quick on his feet at 77, heard and replied to the heckler, “Don’t jump! Don’t jump! Don’t jump!”

The heckler proceeded to lambaste Biden about his reversal on banning fracking. Biden campaigned on banning fracking but now says he is against a ban.

The incident was posted to Twitter by Bloomberg reporter Tyler Pager, “Biden was being heckled by a Trump supporter as he arrived to deliver pizzas. The man was waving a Trump flag as he stood on top of a truck. Biden’s response to him: “Don’t jump.”

Gov. David Ige, Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell and U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams on Thursday visited an Oahu site in Kalihi conducting mass COVID-19 testing. Ige warned of a potential spike in new coronavirus cases with the increase in COVID-19 testing.

U.S. Surgeon General Vice Adm. Jerome Adams spoke during a news conference Thursday at Kalakaua District Park in Honolulu on the second day of surge COVID-19 testing.

A man gave himself a COVID-19 swab test at the site.

Coronavirus infections in Hawaii reached their second-highest daily level Thursday as Oahu began complying with a two-week stay-at-home order limiting business and activities on the island.

While state health officials reported 306 new cases, a high positivity rate and a record single-day reporting of four deaths, U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams warned that Oahu virus numbers likely will continue to spike.

Adams, speaking at a press conference at Kalakaua District Park along with Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell and Gov. David Ige, said Thursday’s new cases were probably generated a week or two ago and do not reflect the thousands of tests administered Wednesday and Thursday during Oahu’s new two-week surge testing program underwritten by the federal government.

The results of the surge tests, he said, are expected to come back to Hawaii from a lab in California two to three days after they are taken.

“You may continue to see cases and positivity go up over the next week or so,” Adams said. “That doesn’t mean you aren’t doing the right thing. It means we need to continue to do the right things, and in seven, 14 and maybe closer to 21 days, you’ll start to see those numbers come back down again.”

Ige said Hawaii could see positive cases double or even go higher if Oahu reaches its target of an additional 5,000 tests per day under the surge program.

“I just want to prepare people for those numbers. We do expect it. We’re not afraid of it. But we know we’re better off to know where the positives are than to sit and not see them,” Ige said.

Hawaii’s daily new-case count hit triple digits for the first time in late July and remained there this month, with the vast majority of confirmed infections on Oahu. On Aug. 13, the state’s daily new-case count reached a record 355.

On Thursday health officials announced four more virus-related deaths — three women and one man, all from Oahu and all who had been hospitalized with underlying medical conditions.

Two of the women were in their 70s, while the other woman and the man were in their 80s. No other details were provided. The coronavirus death toll in Hawaii now stands at 55.

Thursday’s positivity rate — the percent of positives compared to all tests taken — was 12.35%, Adams said, which puts the state in the red zone (above 10%), a position where too many tests are returning positive.

Adams said Hawaii should be aiming for positivity rates below 5%, which is the green zone. The surge testing, he said, will help the state identify where the disease is on Oahu and ultimately help push the state’s positivity rate in the right direction.

Michael Forest Reinoehl, the 48-year-old man under investigation in the fatal shooting Saturday night of a right-wing demonstrator in downtown Portland, attended a Black Lives Matter protest the night before outside the mayor’s home.

Reinoehl brought his daughter, who was carrying a baseball bat, according to photos by an Oregonian/OregonLive photographer and others present Friday night at Mayor Ted Wheeler’s condominium building.

Reinoehl was dressed in the same light-colored vest that videos and photos show him wearing at the scene of the deadly shooting about 9 p.m. Saturday on Southwest Third Avenue.

Sources familiar with the case but not authorized to speak said police are investigating Reinoehl in connection with the death of Aaron “Jay” Danielson, a supporter of the right-wing group Patriot Prayer. Danielson was shot in the chest and died soon after most cars in a caravan of backers of President Donald Trump drove through downtown and left.

A family member also identified Reinoehl as a man captured in photos and video leaving the shooting scene.

Police have made no arrests in the shooting.

New Federal Court Rulings Find Geofence Warrants Unconstitutional

Two federal magistrate judges in three separate opinions have ruled that a geofence warrant violates the Fourth Amendment’s probable cause and particularity requirements. Two of these rulings, from the federal district court in Chicago, were recently unsealed and provide a detailed constitutional analysis that closely aligns with arguments EFF and others have been making against geofence warrants for the last couple years.

Geofence warrants, also known as reverse location searches, are a relatively new investigative technique used by law enforcement to try to identify a suspect. Unlike ordinary warrants for electronic records that identify the suspect in advance of the search, geofence warrants essentially work backwards by scooping up the location data from every device that happened to be in a geographic area during a specific period of time in the past. The warrants therefore allow the government to examine the data from individuals wholly unconnected to any criminal activity and use their own discretion to try to pinpoint devices that might be connected to the crime. Earlier this summer, EFF filed an amicus brief in People v. Dawes, a case in San Francisco Superior Court, arguing that a geofence warrant used there violates deep-rooted Fourth Amendment law.

In Chicago, the government applied to a magistrate judge for a geofence warrant as part of an investigation into stolen pharmaceuticals. Warrant applications like these occur before there is a defendant in a case, so they are almost never adversarial (there’s no lawyer representing a defendant’s interest), and we rarely find out about them until well after the fact, which makes these unsealed opinions all the more interesting.

Here, the government submitted an application to compel Google to disclose unique device identifiers and location information for all devices within designated areas during forty-five minute periods on three different dates. The geofenced areas were in a densely populated city near busy streets with restaurants, commercial establishments, a medical office, and “at least one large residential complex, complete with a swimming pool, workout facilities, and other amenities associated with upscale urban living.”

As we’ve seen with other geofence warrants, the government’s original application proposed a three-step protocol to obtain the information. At the first step, Google would produce detailed and anonymized location data for devices that reported their location within the geofences for three forty-five minute periods. After that, the government would review that information and produce a list of devices for which it desired additional information. Then at the last step, Google would be required to produce information identifying the Google accounts for the requested devices.

Bankrupt JC Penney May Be Bought By Its Lenders

JC Penney, which filed for bankruptcy in mid-May, could fall into the hands of its lenders after talks with potential buyers have come to a “stalemate,” CNBC reported.

The retailer, which has been courted by Sycamore Partners and Hudson Bay Co., may now have its lenders take over the company as part of an effort to keep stores open and save jobs.

As discussions stalled with the potential buyers, Joshua Sussberg, an attorney at Kirkland & Ellis, said in the bankruptcy hearing that time was running out for JC Penney by its lenders, which include H/2 Capital Partners, as a standalone company.

During the hearing, Sussberg said the transaction to purchase JC Penney by its lenders should be completed within 30 days.

"Our lenders are no longer going to be held hostage in negotiations with third parties. While it is possible that one of the bidders comes back into the transaction, we can no longer stand idly by and allow for negotiating postures to stand in the way of 70,000 jobs and our vendor base," Sussberg said.

The purchase agreement will help to salvage several of JC Penney’s stores, many of which were on the chopping block as discussions with potential bidders fell through.

At the time it filed for bankruptcy, JC Penney announced it would be closing 242 stores. That number was later reduced, but layoffs plagued the retailer as about 1,000 employees were cut as it shut down about 150 stores. JC Penney had about 860 stores at the time it filed for bankruptcy.

All of a sudden, reporter Apoora Madavilli came out with an honest report about COVID-19 testing. While I have been writing about this for a few months, it was shocking to see this level of honesty from the Times:

Some of the nation’s leading public health experts are raising a new concern in the endless debate over coronavirus testing in the United States: The standard tests are diagnosing huge numbers of people who may be carrying relatively insignificant amounts of the virus.

The article goes on to explain, in technical detail, the oversensitivity of the most common COVID-19 test, the PCR test. This fact was first noted in public by Dr. Beda M. Stadler, a Swiss biologist, emeritus professor, and former director of the Institute of Immunology at the University of Bern. He noted the PCR test is not indicative of whether the virus particle found is alive or dead. It can also not assess whether the particle found is capable of replicating and causing an infection:

So if we do a PCR corona test on an immune person, it is not a virus that is detected, but a small shattered part of the viral genome. The test comes back positive for as long as there are tiny shattered parts of the virus left. Dr. Stadler made these comments in an interview on June 10. By mid-July, the CDC had updated the guidance regarding retesting. US Navy Hawkeye Aircraft Crashes in Virginia

A US Navy E-2C Hawkeye crashed in Virginia on Monday during a training flight.

All four people on the plane, including two pilots and two crew members, have been safely located. There are no injuries or property damage reported aside from the aircraft.

According to WTVR, the aircraft wreckage was located by police near the intersection of Berry Road and Mason Road in Bloxom, a town in Accomack County, Virginia. Officials were alerted to the crash at around 3:40 p.m. local time.

We're basically wrong.

And, collectively, we're kinda stupid about this.

And are they understanding what it says?

You have 2 vastly different numbers.

One number - 160K - is how many people who had COVID who died.

Another number - 9K - tells you how many people died who only had COVID listed on their death form. That number, 9K, isn't even a real number. It was derived by getting 6% of 160K. The CDC mentioned that only 6% of the people who died only had COVID mentioned on the form, and someone outside of the CDC did the math.

The thing is, what that CDC page does is simply represent a tally of what people who filled out the forms put on those forms.

It's not at all a measurement of what people died from. It's a measurement of what people put on the forms of 160K dead people.

This might be difficult to understand.

On the CDC page there is a table that lists all of the different things that form fillers are putting on the forms. I'll pick out 4 of the many choices that are there.

1) Accidents like Motorcycle crashes + COVID.

We all heard about the guy with COVID who died in a motorcycle crash. He didn't die of COVID, the COVID didn't cause his death, it was the motorcycle crash, but he's on the list as a COVID death, and that's clearly wrong. And there are quite a large number of deaths that are like that. Those particular deaths shouldn't be on the COVID list.

2) Diabetes. Diabetes is one of quite a few preexisting conditions that have been marked on forms. People with diabetes have caught COVID, and died. It wasn't the diabetes that killed them though. They were alive with diabetes, and dead with COVID. Do we really think that we shouldn't call those deaths COVID deaths because the person who died had a preexisting condition? I don't. We have known since March that very old people and people with preexisting conditions are the most "at risk". At risk people, like people with diabetes, are catching COVID and dying, and when a form has diabetes and COVID on it, it was the COVID who killed them, and not the diabetes. Having the diabetes just makes it more likely they'll die, from the COVID.

3) Respiratory arrest / failure + COVID. This is a different category from diabetes. Respiratory arrest is what you die from (often, mostly) when you have COVID. Lungs get thick mucus, blood clots. We've known this for months. If a otherwise healthy person gets COVID, and then dies of respiratory failure, that's a person who dies of COVID. This respiratory failure is not something different from COVID. 2 people filling out forms might fill out the forms differently for the same person. Maybe one person puts down just COVID, maybe another person puts down COVID and respiratory failure.

4) Pneumonia. A lot of people died from COVID + pneumonia. 60K. In cases of COVID + pneumonia, I would argue that those are actually pneumonia deaths. We've known about HCQ + Zpack since March. The Zpack is the antibiotic, given to patients with COVID in order to prevent or treat pneumonia and other bacterial infections. I think that when the form says pneumonia, I would call that a pneumonia death, and not a COVID death. Removing the pneumonia deaths would take the total number of COVID deaths from 160K to about 100K, and I'd do that.

The people filling out the forms never put "Medical Malpractice" as a cause of death, but it does certainly appear that that was the real cause. People were coming in with anxiety, and Elmhurst put them with COVID people, they got COVID, then Fentanyl, Ventilators and Death.

So, accidents and other infections, I'd remove from the COVID list, and preexisting conditions and symptoms of COVID I'd keep on the list. In order to get a "real" number, you'd have to look at each one, for the most part, remove motorcycle crashes and pneumonia, and you'll get under 100k true COVID deaths.

A Manhattan judge on Monday was cold-cocked by a male stranger in broad daylight as she headed to her job at a downtown courthouse.

UAE Does Not Refuse Support for Creation of Independent Palestine, Foreign Ministry Says

The United Arab Emirates is not against support for the creation of an independent Palestinian state with the capital in East Jerusalem, despite normalization of relations with Israel, UAE Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed said.

"The UAE stance is firm and settled in regard to support of the unchanging Arab stance on the creation of an independent Palestinian state with the capital in East Jerusalem", bin Zayed said in a video address to Palestinians.

The minister stressed that the UAE's decision to normalize relations with Israel was a strategic and necessary choice that was not going to undermine the rights of the Palestinian people.

On Monday, the very first direct passenger flight from Israel to the UAE took the high-level US and Israeli delegations from Tel Aviv to Abu Dhabi through Saudi airspace. The Israeli delegation is led by the National Security Council head, Meir Ben Shabbat. The US delegation is headed by Senior Presidential Advisor Jared Kushner and National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien.

The visit is expected to last for two days. The agenda includes high-level meetings on cooperation in various fields ahead of signing a historic peace deal between the two countries.

Previously, the UAE and Israel announced that they had agreed to normalize bilateral relations and establish diplomatic ties as part of a deal brokered by the United States. The UAE is set to become the third Arab country to fully recognize Israel after Egypt in 1979 and Jordan in 1994.

In mid-August, UAE Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Cultural Affairs Omar Saif Ghobash said that UAE believed that Israel was not going to proceed with its West Bank annexation plans after suspending them as part of the historic bilateral peace deal with the UAE.

New emails between Peter Strzok, Lisa Page and a number of their colleagues reveal the timeline of events leading up to the renewal of the FISA application on Carter Page and the investigation of the president following his criticism of Obama and the FBI.

The conservative watchdog Judicial Watch says it has received more than 300 pages of emails between former FBI official Peter Strzok and former FBI attorney Lisa Page that includes records of the FBI discussing an investigation into tweets sent by President Trump in early 2017 about the agency spying on him at the behest of former President Obama.

In a March 2017 exchange, Strzok emails several of his colleagues, including Page, about several tweets the President Trump had sent earlier in the month commenting on suspected wire tapping at Trump Tower during the 2016 election.

"Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my 'wires tapped' in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!" wrote POTUS on March 4.

"Is it legal for a sitting President to be "wire tapping" a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!" Trump continued. "I'd bet a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to Election!"

On March 29, 2017, then-FBI Director James Comey's chief of staff emailed Strzok, Page and several of their colleagues saying that the director would like a briefing on a "sensitive matter."

A followup email says that Comey requested the briefing so that he would be able to brief then-acting U.S. Attorney General Dana Boente.

One week after the email exchange and director's briefing, the second renewal and order of the FISA warrant on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page was filed.

The new emails also detail exchanges between FBI officials and reporters at CNN and the New York Times pertaining to the Russia investigation.

One exchange features Strzok emailing Page, with whom he had an affair, saying, "It makes me angry" that Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) had published a letter demanding answers from the FBI about Deputy Director Andrew McCabe overseeing the Russia investigation, when his wife accepted $700,000 from associates of Hillary Clinton during her run for the Virginia state senate.

A third exchange features FBI colleagues passing around an article from Gizmodo revealing Comey's private Twitter handle.

"My respect for the D [Director] only solidifies when I see that he named himself after America's preeminent 20th century political theologian." Gizmodo reported that Comey used the Twitter handle Reinhold Niebuhr, a prominent American theologian who embraced a non-absolutist Marxist philosophy.

"These astonishing emails, which have been hidden for years, show the Comey FBI was investigating President Trump over his critical tweets of the agency and Obama's spying abuse and misconduct," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. Respiratory Failure - that was caused by COVID. That's a COVID death.

Diabetes - that doesn't kill you. People with Diabetes who get COVID died.

Those 2 - both should count as COVID deaths.

On the other hand - Pneumonia, I'd say that the cause of death in a Pneumonia + COVID case is Pneumonia - that should not count as a COVID death, but a Pneumonia death.

What you fail to understand is that that 6% number means is that in 6% of the forms, only COVID is listed. That is NOT AT ALL THE SAME THING AS SAYING THAT Covid was not the cause of death.

COVID causes RESPIRATORY FAILURE. That's what it does, it's how it kills. If someone dies of COVID, is generally lazy to not put Respiratory Failure.

If someone has Diabetes, and gets COVID and dies, they did not die of Diabetes, they died of COVID. So they belong on the deaths from COVID list.
