Chinese President Xi Jinping told troops to focus their “minds and energy on preparing for war” during a visit to a military base, according to a report on Wednesday.

RIVAS belonged to an MS-13 “clique” known as Hollywood Locos Salvatrucha (HLS). HLS operates in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, New York, and elsewhere. HLS members have committed murder and other acts of violence, and generated revenue on behalf of MS-13, including through robbery, extortion, and narcotics and firearms trafficking. HLS members are required to pay monthly dues, which MS-13 uses to support various gang activities and to support other MS-13 members, including those who are incarcerated or who live in El Salvador. Members are induced to pay dues, including through threats of violence, and members who fall behind on dues are subjected to physical beatings carried out by other members of the gang. In addition to the violent consequences for failure to pay dues, MS-13 rules establish that MS-13 members who try to withdraw from the gang will be “green lit,” meaning that the gang’s leadership will authorize the gang to murder the withdrawing member.

RIVAS collected, and oversaw the collection, of dues in New York, Virginia, Maryland, and elsewhere. She also transmitted and ensured the transmission of the collected funds to other MS-13 members, including incarcerated members and members in El Salvador, to support the gang’s activities. In the course of overseeing the collection of dues, RIVAS pressured MS-13 members to meet their dues payment obligations by any means necessary, including through criminal activities that would generate income, such as narcotics and firearms trafficking. Like other MS-13 leaders, RIVAS resorted to threats of violence to extort dues from MS-13 members and relied on physical beatings carried out by other MS-13 members to enforce payment.

In addition to the prison term, RIVAS, 34, of Manassas Park, Virginia, was sentenced to three years of supervised release. She was further ordered to forfeit $19,346 in dues that she had collected or transmitted.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell fractured his shoulder Sunday after falling in his Kentucky home, his office said in a statement.

"This morning, Leader McConnell tripped at home on his outside patio and suffered a fractured shoulder," David Popp, McConnell's communications director, said in a statement. "He has been treated, released, and is working from home in Louisville."

McConnell's injury comes as Democrats demand he reconvenes the Senate to pass gun control legislation after a pair of mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio this weekend left 29 people dead.

Popp added that McConell had spoken to Republican Sens. John Cornyn of Texas and Rob Portman of Ohio to convey his condolences for the deadly shootings in their states.

The senators discussed "the senseless tragedies of this weekend," McConnell's office said.

Over the course of the past several days, the FBI, CISA, and ODNI have become aware of a significant and ongoing cybersecurity campaign. Pursuant to Presidential Policy Directive (PPD) 41, the FBI, CISA, and ODNI have formed a Cyber Unified Coordination Group (UCG) to coordinate a whole-of-government response to this significant cyber incident. Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo, a Democrat, issued lockdown orders to the state’s residents and posted a tweet on December 7. She told everyone to stay home and if they do go out, to wear a mask. She relayed the usual kind of we’re-all-in-this-together rhetoric in the post.

It’s pretty standard wording for a government official trying to slow the outbreak of the coronavirus. But, then just four days later, Raimondo was captured in a photo doing the opposite of what she was demanding of Rhode Island residents. She was out at a wine bar with her husband and to add to her hypocrisy, she was not wearing a mask. Are wine bars – even ones like she patronized that offer painting and wine drinking – considered essential businesses? What about the regular bars, the ones who don’t offer a painting activity, that are under lockdown orders? The photo was taken by her server.

Here’s the kicker – she went out with her husband to the wine bar after learning that a top aide had tested positive for COVID-19. Department of Administration Director Brett Smiley also has tested positive and is self-quarantining. It sure looks like the governor should have been quarantined at home herself.

But despite the fact that she was aware that her health director has COVID, her guidelines tell people only to go out for essential services, her mandates require no entertainment activities, bar areas have to be closed, businesses are shut down, and you must socially distance yourself from non-family members, Gina went out on Friday night with her husband to a bar called Barnaby’s in Providence and was seen sitting at the bar, drinking wine without a mask on as part of a ‘paint and wine’ event.

Both brothers, however, possessed a fascination with new technology and mechanics. They taught themselves engineering through their work in their bicycle shop in Dayton, Ohio. Using a homemade wind tunnel, they collected data and developed new designs for propellers and wings, oversaw the creation of a new, specially made engine, and invented an innovative system for steering manned aircraft, solving problems that had plagued previous attempts at powered flight. December 17th is forever enshrined as the day the Wright Brothers launched a new era of American greatness. Two of these sources say the president has at times privately expressed some sympathy for Ulbricht’s situation and has been considering his name, among others, for his next round of commutations and pardons before the Jan. 20 inauguration of his 2020 Democratic opponent.

It is unclear if Trump has arrived at a final decision yet, but Ulbricht has gained some influential backers in the president’s political and social orbit. Behind the scenes, he has the support of some presidential advisers, as well as criminal justice reform advocates with close ties to the administration and Trump family, including Alice Johnson, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

“I’ve had documents forwarded to my contacts in the White House as early as February,” activist Weldon Angelos, a former music producer and ex-federal inmate, said in a brief interview on Tuesday evening. “In the beginning of the year, [Ulbricht’s] family had reached out to us for our support, and my organization and I have endorsed his full commutation, and I am hopeful that President Trump will commute his sentence in its entirety. This case has perhaps more support than I’ve seen in any case of this kind.”

The White House did not respond to a request for comment on this story Tuesday.
