Bill Gates is the biggest private owner of farmland in the United States. Why?

Bill Gates has never been a farmer. So why did the Land Report dub him “Farmer Bill” this year? The third richest man on the planet doesn’t have a green thumb. Nor does he put in the back-breaking labor humble people do to grow our food and who get for far less praise for it. That kind of hard work isn’t what made him rich. Gates’ achievement, according to the report, is that he’s largest private owner of farmland in the US. A 2018 purchase of 14,500 acres of prime eastern Washington farmland – which is traditional Yakima territory – for $171m helped him get that title.

In total, Gates owns approximately 242,000 acres of farmland with assets totaling more than $690m. To put that into perspective, that’s nearly the size of Hong Kong and twice the acreage of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe, where I’m an enrolled member. A white man owns more farmland than my entire Native nation!

The United States is defined by the excesses of its ruling class. But why do a handful of people own so much land?

Land is power, land is wealth, and, more importantly, land is about race and class. The relationship to land – who owns it, who works it and who cares for it – reflects obscene levels of inequality and legacies of colonialism and white supremacy in the United States, and also the world. Wealth accumulation always goes hand-in-hand with exploitation and dispossession. In this country, enslaved Black labor first built US wealth atop stolen Native land. The 1862 Homestead Act opened up 270m acres of Indigenous territory – which amounts to 10% of US land – for white settlement. Black, Mexican, Asian, and Native people, of course, were categorically excluded from the benefits of a federal program that subsidized and protected generations of white wealth.

The billionaire media mogul Ted Turner epitomizes such disparities. He owns 2m acres and has the world’s largest privately owned buffalo herd. Those animals, which are sacred to my people and were nearly hunted to extinction by settlers, are preserved today on nearly 200,000 acres of Turner’s ranchland within the boundaries of the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty territory in the western half of what is now the state of South Dakota, land that was once guaranteed by the US government to be a “permanent home” for Lakota people.

The gun and the whip may not accompany land acquisitions this time around. But billionaire class assertions that they are philosopher kings and climate-conscious investors who know better than the original caretakers are little more than ruses for what amounts to a 21st century land grab – with big payouts in a for-profit economy seeking “green” solutions.

Our era is dominated by the ultra-rich, the climate crisis and a burgeoning green capitalism. And Bill Gates’ new book How to Avoid a Climate Disaster positions himself as a thought leader in how to stop putting greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and how to fund what he has called elsewhere a “global green revolution” to help poor farmers mitigate climate change. What expertise in climate science or agriculture Gates possesses beyond being filthy rich is anyone’s guess.

When pressed during a book discussion on Reddit about why he’s gobbling up so much farmland, Gates claimed, “It is not connected to climate [change].” The decision, he said, came from his “investment group.” Cascade Investment, the firm making these acquisitions, is controlled by Gates. And the firm said it’s “very supportive of sustainable farming”. It also is a shareholder in the plant-based protein companies Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods as well as the farming equipment manufacturer John Deere. His firm’s largest farmland acquisition happened in 2017, when it acquired 61 farming properties from a Canadian investment firm to the tune of $500m.

Elderly Asian Woman Stabbed to Death in California By Woman Out on 'Emergency Bail'

An Asian senior was fatally stabbed while walking her dogs in Riverside, CA on Saturday morning. However, due to the emergency bail schedule brought about by COVID-19, she was released on a “Notice to Appear” citation. Meng’s death remains under investigation. “The suspect is homeless from LA County and is obviously experiencing mental health and substance abuse issues,” said Railsback, adding that “the attack could have happened to anyone.” Meng’s son Yi Bai, however, is demanding answers. “Why was it her? Jen Psaki Claims Joe Biden Wanted to Support Baseball Players, Not Lead Boycott of Georgia

White House press secretary Jen Psaki struggled Monday to clarify comments President Joe Biden made supporting Major League Baseball’s (MLB) decision to move the All-Star game from Atlanta to protest Georgia’s new election security laws.

President Biden told ESPN Wednesday he “strongly supported” the idea of moving the All-Star game out of Atlanta before MLB made the decision to pull the game.

“I think today’s professional athletes are acting incredibly responsibly. I would strongly support them doing that,” Biden said when asked about the idea during an ESPN interview. “People look to them. They’re leaders.”

Biden also described the new election law as “Jim Crow on steroids.”

On Friday, the MLB announced Friday their decision to pull the game, prompting vocal criticism from Republicans and supporters of the law. Even Georgia Democrats who opposed the law expressed disappointment with the league for hurting the local economy by canceling the game.

But on Monday, Psaki tried to dodge responsibility for the boycott, suggesting the president was only trying to support MLB players.

“He was not dictating for what Major League Baseball should do, that they should — dictating they should move the All-Star game,” she said. “That was their decision, they made that decision, and as he stated earlier he certainly supports that.”

She said Biden’s remarks should be considered in “context.”

But when asked by reporters if Biden supported the MLB decision to pull the game from Atlanta, Psaki demurred.

“He supports them being able to make the decision, and respond to what their players, you know, asks are given many of them are impacted of course by these laws,” she said.

When asked if she was trying to walk back Biden’s comments, Psaki replied, “I’m trying to articulate clearly to everyone what he said.”

During the decision process, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said he gathered feedback from the teams and had conversations with Tony Clark, director of the Major League Baseball Players Association about the law, but ultimately made the decision himself.

“I have decided that the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is by relocating this year’s All-Star Game and MLB Draft,” he said in his statement. It was unclear whether a majority of baseball players actually supported the decision.

When asked if Biden would support the PGA golf tour moving The Masters championship tournament out of Atlanta, Psaki declined to weigh in.

“I’m not here to call for anyone on behalf of the president or the vice president or anyone to take a step in reaction to the law in Georgia,” she said.

Clarence Thomas: Supreme Court Will Soon Have to Address Tech Censorship

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas today outlined a detailed legal argument for why social media companies might need to be subject to strict rules forbidding them from denying service to users for any reason or no reason, including the possibility of designating them as common carriers — which would effectively eliminate their ability to ban or censor users for legal, First Amendment protected speech.

Thomas outlined his opinion in a concurrence to reject a case that began under the Trump administration, challenging the President’s right to block users from his Twitter feed.

However, Thomas indicated that the Supreme Court will soon have to address the issue of tech censorship.

“We will soon have no choice but to address how our legal doctrines apply to highly concentrated, privately owned information infrastructure such as digital platforms” wrote Thomas.

Such a case would likely encompass many of the complaints brought by conservatives against social media companies. Social media censorship has intensely escalated over the past few years, with targets of bans and censorship including elected officials like President Trump, political candidates like Laura Loomer, and news organizations like Breitbart News and the New York Post.

Thomas also noted other cases that raised concerns about digital platforms’ control over speech. On the rejected case brought by Loomer and Freedom Watch last year, Thomas noted that it highlighted “two important facts.”

Today’s digital platforms provide avenues for historically unprecedented amounts of speech, including speech by government actors. Also unprecedented, however, is the concentrated control of so much speech in the hands of a few private parties.

The case addressed by Thomas was brought on the basis that the president is a public official, and that his feed should thus be considered a constitutionally protected public forum, therefore implying that the President cannot bar users from his feed via the block feature.

Today, their impacts are more felt in our online news intake and media consumption habits. 37 years ago, 50 companies control the media in America. Fast forward to 2011, American news outlets are controlled only by 6 powerful corporations. Back in 2018, Jim Morrison, a singer, songwriter, and poet, who served as the lead vocalist of the rock band, once said: “Whoever controls the media, controls the mind.”

He was right. Today, Americans think they have an unlimited variety of entertainment and media options right at their fingertips. But it is all a lie. This illusion of choice was fabricated by the media elites. In the early 90s before the mainstream adoption of the Internet, the media landscape used to be simple and straightforward. Today, 6 media giants control a whopping 90% of what we read, watch, or listen to.

Objectivity in journalism is an illusion created by the elite class to give the appearance of balanced news. However, there is no such thing as unbiased news. Journalists who work for these six corporations answer to their owners and ultimately serve their agendas. For example, no logical thinking person will expect Washington Post to write a fair and objective story about its owner, especially a story that Jeff Bezos reportedly cheated on his wife. The point of all these is that the media outlets don’t necessarily serve the interest of the people they control, instead, they serve the interests of their owners.

In today’s startup-centric economy, it is almost impossible for independent media outlets to compete with these six giant corporations that distribute and control a majority of the media in this country. While it may seem that we have limitless options, the simple truth is that we don’t.

We’re been fed what the media oligarchs want us to eat. The same can be said of the big tech companies that own the social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. These tech overlords silent dissents and censor content that do not fit the elite agenda.

USBP Arrests Dangerous Sexual Predator

Otay Mesa, Calif. — San Diego Sector (SDC) Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported sex offender after he illegally entered the U.S.

At about 10:45 p.m. last night, an agent patrolling the mountains just east of the Otay Mesa Port of Entry was searching for a group of illegal entrants when he saw two men attempting to conceal themselves in thick brush.

The agent questioned the men about their immigration status and both men admitted to being illegally present in the U.S. The men were placed under arrest and transported to a nearby Border Patrol station for processing. At the station, a records check revealed that one of the men, a 35-year-old El Salvadorian national, had been convicted in 2009 for aggravated sexual battery of a child under 13 in Virginia. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The man was subsequently removed to El Salvador in 2014 after having a portion of his criminal sentence suspended.

The El Salvadorian man will be held in federal custody pending prosecution for felony illegal reentry after deportation. The second man was expelled back to Mexico.

In fiscal year 2021, which began October 1, SDC’s Border Patrol agents have arrested 31 sex offenders exceeding the 25 sex offenders arrested in San Diego Sector during fiscal year 2020.

Two Yemeni Men Arrested by Border Patrol Identified on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List

CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested two Yemeni men within the last 2 months that were identified on a terrorism watch list.

The first incident occurred on January 29, at approximately 1:10 a.m., when agents assigned to the El Centro Station arrested a man for illegally entering the United States. Agents apprehended the man approximately three miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry and transported him to the El Centro Processing Center for immigration and criminal history screening.

Agents conducted records checks, which revealed that the man, a 33-year-old illegal alien from Yemen, was on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List as well as on the No-Fly list.

Additionally, agents found a cellular phone sim card hidden underneath the insole of his shoe.

The man was transferred to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The second incident occurred on March 30, at approximately 11:30 p.m., when agents assigned to the El Centro Station arrested a man for illegally entering the United States. Agents apprehended the man approximately two miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry and transported him to the El Centro Processing Center for immigration and criminal history screening.

Agents conducted records checks, which revealed that the man, a 26-year-old illegal alien from Yemen, was also on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List and on the No-Fly list.

The man is being held in federal custody pending removal.

PHILADELPHIA – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized 588 cases of infant formula, valued at about $30,000, in Philadelphia recently for violating U.S. Food and Drug Administration import safety regulations.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Philadelphia recently seized nearly 600 cases of infant formula that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration determined to be in violation of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act as misbranded and adulterated products.

CBP officers seized 588 cases of

misbranded infant formula.

During February, CBP officers inspected 17 separate shipments of a variety of HiPP and Holle brand infant formulas that arrived from Germany and The Netherlands, respectively. The infant formula was destined to a Philadelphia freight forwarder for eventual delivery to an address in Nevada. Officers detained the shipments and consulted with the FDA who issued import safety alerts concerning noncompliant infant formula.

In March, the FDA determined that the infant formula lacked appropriate nutritional labeling and violated the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) as misbranded and adulterated consumer products. The FD&C Act prohibits the introduction, or delivery for the introduction, into interstate commerce of any food, drug, device, tobacco product, or cosmetic that is adulterated or misbranded. Additionally, the manufacturers failed to comply with FDA regulatory requirements to sell their infant formula in the United States.

Consumer protection remains a CBP hallmark trade enforcement priority, and the agency cautions consumers who may be considering buying online from overseas vendors.

“Consumers should be very careful when contemplating the purchase of items over the internet from an international source, because they may not get what they expect. People expect that the products they purchase comply with existing U.S. health and safety laws and regulations and they’ll be safe for them or their family. That’s not always the case.” said Keith Fleming, CBP’s Acting Director of Field Operations in Baltimore. “CBP remains steadfast in our continuing commitment to working with the Food and Drug Administration and our other consumer safety partners in our collective efforts to help keep our citizens safe.”

AMD's Zen 3 CPUs Are Susceptible To Spectre-Like Vulnerability (Updated)

Update 5/4/2020 8:30am PT: Linux publication Phoronix has carried out preliminary testing on the impact of disabling Predictive Store Forwarding. AMD hasn't provided any patches, therefore, the author compiled his own kernel with the feature disabled.

Phoronix's results revealed a negligible performance hit when disabling Predictive Store Forwarding. Across a suite of 100 tests, the geometric mean was less than a half percent in terms of performance loss.

We've reached out to AMD for comment and will update the story accordingly when the chipmaker gets back to us.

Original Story:

AMD has published a whitepaper on a potential security vulnerability that affects the company's latest Zen 3 processors. The side-channel exploit is similar to Spectre that affected a plethora of Intel processors three years ago.

With Zen 3, AMD introduced a new technology called Predictive Store Forwarding (PSF), which helps improve code execution performance by predicting the relationship between loads and stores. In the majority of the cases, PSF's predictions are on the spot. However, there is still a slim chance that the prediction may not be accurate, which results in an incorrect CPU speculation.

AMD's CPU architects have discovered that bad PSF speculation is equivalent to Spectre v4. Software that relies on isolation or "sandboxing" is highly at risk when it comes to incorrect speculation. AMD provided two scenarios where an incorrect PSF prediction can occur.

"First, it is possible that the store/load pair had a dependency for a while but later stops having a dependency. This can occur if the address of either the store or load changes during the execution of the program."

"The second source of incorrect PSF predictions can occur if there is an alias in the PSF predictor structure. The PSF predictor is designed to track stores/load pairs based on portions of their RIP. It is possible that a store/load pair which does have a dependency may alias in the predictor with another store/load pair which does not. This may result in incorrect speculation when the second store/load pair is executed."

Cybercriminals Hacked GitHub's Servers for Crypto Mining

GitHub is now investigating the crypto mining campaign that is abusing its servers.

GitHub's electricity bill likely skyrocketed in recent months. The code-hosting company, owned by Microsoft, is investigating a series of attacks against its cloud infrastructure that allowed cybercriminals to hack into its servers and use them for crypto-mining operations, a report by The Record explains.

The attacks, which were carried out by abusing a GitHub automated task and workflow feature called GitHub Actions, have been occurring since the fall of 2020.

GitHub security engineer Justin Perdok told The Record that at least one person is targeting GitHub repositories in which GitHub Actions might be enabled.

The attacker adds malicious GitHub Actions to the original code before filing a 'Pull Request' with the original repository. This merges the malicious code back into the original.

As Perdok explains, the original project owner doesn't even need to approve the malicious Pull Request for the attack to work. Simply filing the Pull Request is enough.

Though GitHub says is are investigating the problem, it appears that it is a difficult issue to resolve — the company is actively deactivating malicious accounts, though new ones are easily activated by users intending to abuse the firm's servers.

Virtual crypto-mining machines created with malicious code

Attackers specifically target GitHub project owners with automated workflows that test incoming pull requests via automated jobs, Perdok explained.

Once a malicious Pull Request is filed, GitHub's systems read the attacker's code and program a virtual machine that downloads and runs cryptocurrency mining software on GitHub's infrastructure.

Perdok told The Record that he has seen attackers spin up to 100 crypto-miners throughout the course of only one attack. Unsurprisingly, as crypto mining consumes more electricity globally than entire countries, this creates enormous computational loads for GitHub's infrastructure.

Perdok explained that he identified at least one account creating hundreds of malicious Pull Requests and the attacks appear to have been happening since at least November 2020, when it was reported by a French software engineer.

So far, the attacks have not been damaging users' projects in any way, and instead are focused on illicitly utilizing GitHub's infrastructure for crypto mining.

‘Finish him’: Liberals celebrate with glee as Supreme Court REFUSES to hear Alex Jones’ appeal in Sandy Hook case

The InfoWars founder’s fiercest critics have been more than happy about a decision by the Supreme Court to dismiss an appeal from him on a lawsuit stemming from the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

The Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal from Jones on Monday. The controversial conservative has been fighting a court sanction from a defamation lawsuit launched by families of victims of the 2012 shooting, which left 26 people dead.

Jones is being sued by the family members, as well as an FBI agent that responded to the shooting, for allegedly claiming the incident was a hoax on his show. Families claim they have been subjected to harassment and death threats since Jones made his comments.

Jones was penalized in 2019 for refusing to hand over court documents as requested by opposing attorneys, as well as for an allegedly threatening outburst on his show against one of the attorneys. Judge Barbara Bellis barred Jones from filing a motion to dismiss the case and ordered him to pay for some of the legal fees of the families suing him.

The ‘threatening’ message Jones said on his show related to attorney Christopher Mattei of planting child pornography, which was found in email metadata files Jones turned over.

“You’re trying to set me up with child porn,” Jones said on his show in 2019. “One million dollars, you little gang members. One million dollars to put your head on a pike.”

Norman Pattis, Jones’ attorney, said the pornography was in emails sent to Jones, but they were never opened. He previously said the FBI cleared Jones of any wrongdoing after an inquiry found “there was no suggestion that anyone here wanted that material, ever looked at it or even knew about it.” InfoWars has described the material as part of a “malware attack.”

Pattis called the Supreme Court’s dismissal “a disappointment” and blasted Judge Bellis for “[asserting] frightening and standardless power over the extrajudicial statements of litigants.”

“Mr. Jones never threatened anyone; had he done so, he would have been charged with a crime. We are inching our way case-by-case toward a toothless, politically correct, First Amendment,” Pattis said in a statement to The Associated Press.

Joshua Koskoff, a lawyer for the Sandy Hook families, applauded the court’s decision, slamming Jones as an “opportunist” preying on grieving families.

Jones faced another legal setback in January after the Texas Supreme Court refused to dismiss four defamation suits from parents of children who died in the Sandy Hook shooting. They sued in Travis County where InfoWars is based.

State Department: US Prepared to Discuss Sanctions Relief With Iran Guided by Terms of 2015 Deal

US negotiators will be present in Vienna during Tuesday's meeting of the remaining signatories of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action nuclear deal, but are not expected to be allowed in the room where the meeting takes place, per Iran's request.

The United States is prepared to discuss sanctions relief with Iran on the basis of the terms of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, State Department spokesman Ned Price has said.

"We certainly will not entertain unilateral gestures or concessions to induce Iran to a better place. Our goal at these talks in Vienna is to set the stage for that mutual return to compliance. The original formulation is one that still holds today -it's the limited lifting of nuclear sanctions in return for permanent and verifiable limits on Iran's nuclear programme," Price said, speaking to reporters in Washington, DC on Monday.

Pressed by AP reporter Matt Lee about whether the US might consider lifting non-nuclear sanctions, Price said he would "leave it to the negotiators to detail the positions."

Commenting on the US's goals at the upcoming Vienna meeting, the spokesman said that Washington expects the talks to focus on "the issues involved in a mutual return to compliance with the JCPOA, mutual meaning on the part of Iran and on the part of the United States. That has long been the proposition on the table."

He added that the US would use the Vienna talks to get a better understanding of how to reach "compliance for compliance", but noted that Washington doesn't "anticipate an early or immediate breakthrough," and expects talks to be "difficult."

"We don't anticipate at present that there will be direct talks with Iran, though of course we remain open to them. So we'll have to see how things go," Price added.

The State Department spokesman went on to criticise the Biden administration's predecessor for reducing the "breakout time" hypothetically required for Iran to build a nuclear bomb, saying this period has "dwindled" under Donald Trump from the 12-month timeframe it was at while the JCPOA was in force.

Greater Nanticoke Area school board member facing charges of invasion of privacy

A Greater Nanticoke Area School District board member set up cameras and secretly recorded nude images of a woman he'd become enamored with after meeting her during counseling sessions when she was in the sixth grade, police said.

Matthew Joseph Landmesser, 42, was charged Monday with a felony count of intercepting communications and three misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy.

Police said Landmesser met the woman when she was in the sixth grade. He worked at a counseling service and was her case worker, the charges said.

For the past three years, the woman has been living at Landmesser's home at 400 E. Union St., although she described their relationship as only friendly, according to the complaint.

Police obtained the video file where they say the victim can be seen “day to day living,” including changing clothes.

Landmesser can be seen setting up the cameras, including unsuccessfully installing one in the residence’s bathroom.

Police say he was also seen smelling the victim’s clothes and performing sexual acts on the victim’s property.

During the investigation, police recovered Landmesser’s computer where they found a document from approximately 5 years ago in which he professes his love for the victim.

The Greater Nanticoke Area School District solicitor Vito Delucca declined to comment on the situation.

The report claims the campaign bilked supporters out of money

Former President Donald Trump lashed out at the New York Times over a report that his presidential campaign had duped supporters out of millions of dollars in unwitting automatic transactions.

The report was published Saturday and included interviews with several Trump supporters who said that they had authorized a donation to the campaign but later saw their bank accounts depleted from multiple automatic transactions that they did not expect.

On Monday, the former president excoriated the report and denied the claims against his campaign.

"In yet another highly partisan story, the failing New York Times wrote a completely misleading, one-sided attack piece this weekend that tried to disparage our record-setting grassroots fundraising operation during the 2020 campaign," read the Trump statement.

The report said that donors on the webpage encountered pre-checked boxes that would allow the campaigns to make multiple recurring requests for donations.

"Our support in 2020 was so big — never before seen (received more votes than any sitting President in history, by far), that it has become a major threat to the Democratic Party, which explains why the New York Times immediately rushed to defend their Radical Left Allies," Trump continued.

"In fact, many people were so enthusiastic that they gave over and over, and in certain cases, where they would give too much, we would promptly refund their contributions. Our overall dispute rate was less than 1% of total online donations, a very low number. This is done by Dems also," Trump said.

The Times reported that the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee had issued more than 530,000 refunds to online donors in the last 2 1/2 months of 2020. They reported that Democratic campaigns had only made 37,000 refunds in that same period. Overall, the GOP entities refunded $64.3 million, while Democratic entities refunded $5.6 million in that time period.

"Our fundraising efforts, working together with the Republican party, were all done legally," Trump continued, "and all with the goal of ensuring that my Administration could continue to Make America Great Again."

But a possible slip-up in a new documentary suggests the answer was always the most obvious one: Ron Watkins, the long-time administrator of the message board 8kun, the conspiratorial movement’s online home.

Most major QAnon researchers have long speculated that Watkins had written many of the false and cryptic posts alleging that former president Donald Trump was waging war against an elite international cabal of Satan-worshipping paedophiles. Watkins has long denied his involvement, saying he was merely a neutral backroom operator of the site and never a participant.

But in the Sunday finale for the HBO series Q: Into the Storm, filmmaker Cullen Hoback points to what he argues is a key piece of evidence that Watkins had lied about his role in the more than 4000 messages Q had posted since 2017.

In a final scene, after Watkins talked about how he had shared voter-fraud conspiracy theories after Trump’s loss in the 2020 elections, he told Hoback: “It was basically three years of intelligence training, teaching normies how to do intelligence work. It was basically what I was doing anonymously before, but never as Q.”

To Hoback, it was an inadvertent admission that Watkins had actually been Q, crafting secret communiques and shaping the movement for “normies”, or normal people, to consume. But in the scene, Watkins smiled and cleared his throat, seeking to correct – or further muddy – the record: “Never as Q. I promise. I am not Q.”

The evidence is circumstantial, and no proof affirms Watkins’ role. Watkins, for his part, messaged his 150,000 subscribers on the chat service Telegram late on Sunday, “Friendly reminder: I am not Q. Have a good weekend.”

But the revelation has reinvigorated debate about the clues of Watkins’ role in one of the biggest conspiracy-theory movements of the internet age.

Watkins and his father, 8kun owner Jim Watkins, were the only people who could boast of a behind-the-scenes dialogue with the nameless prophet, and QAnon’s rise had served to give the bizarre duo a level of attention and infamy that they seemed to relish in video live streams and online posts.

One dead: Lelon Lewis, 66

At approximately 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, the Air Force received an emergency signal from the single-engine Magnus Fusion 212’s beacon, according to Alpine Search and Rescue.

The plane was located approximately 20 miles south of Conifer in the area of Wigwam Creek Trail by Civil Air Patrol at 10:30 a.m.

Lelon Lewis was identified as the pilot Monday morning. His body was recovered by Alpine Search and Rescue several hours later due to the location of the crash.

Chaffee County Search and Rescue was called in to look for potential passengers. None were found.

It was determined that the aircraft belonged to 64-year-old Lelon Lewis of Lakewood. Deputies contacted Lewis by phone who checking into a local hotel. Deputies contacted Lewis at the hotel and '''he said that he was the pilot but refused to provide and further details.

Cancer diagnoses see a huge spike at age 65, study finds. Doctors speculate why

When it comes to any illness, the sooner it can be diagnosed, the better someone’s chances of recovery and survival. But a review of more than 600,000 patient records found that people are delaying medical care until they turn 65 years old, despite the risks involved.

Researchers at Stanford School of Medicine discovered a “substantial rise” in new breast, lung, colon and prostate cancer diagnoses nationwide — the most common cancers in the U.S. — at 65, which is when Americans become eligible for Medicare.

A quick analysis of study senior author Dr. Joseph Shrager’s patients’ records revealed a twofold increase in lung cancer surgeries among 65-year-olds compared to those just one year younger.

The team speculates that people on the cusp of Medicare eligibility wait until they turn 65 to seek cancer screenings and treatment because they “often lack insurance as a result of early retirement,” have other health conditions that hinder the renewal of their insurance plans or cannot afford private insurance costs, according to a Stanford news release.

In all, the study, published last week in the journal Cancer, suggests that expanding Medicare to those younger than 65 could improve cancer outcomes.

“If you don’t get the right screening or prompt diagnosis you are going to have lower cure rates,” Dr. Joseph Shrager, chief of the division of thoracic surgery at the Stanford University Medical Center, said in the release. “This study underlines the important difference that some sort of Medicare expansion could make… and suggests that many people are delaying their care for financial reasons until they get health insurance through Medicare.”

The team analyzed records from patients between 61 and 69 years old who were diagnosed with lung (134,991 patients), breast (175,558 patients), colon (62,721 patients) and prostate cancer (238,823 patients) from 2004 to 2016.

Lung cancer diagnosis rates consistently increased by 3-4% each year for people aged 61 to 64, but then doubled for patients who were 65. Those for colon cancer grew by about 1-2% annually in the years before Medicare eligibility and then jumped to nearly 15% at age 65.

Overall, the biggest jumps in cancer diagnoses occurred during the transition from 64 to 65 years old compared to all other age transitions, according to the study. After age 65, diagnosis rates declined for all cancer types.

What’s more, adults older than 65 who had cancer and were insured were more likely to get surgery to treat their illness and were less likely to die from it than their younger, uninsured counterparts.

“Collectively, these results demonstrate that Medicare eligibility, an event coincident with becoming 65 years old, is associated with a rise in early-stage cancer diagnoses and a resulting survival benefit,” the study says, according to the release.

Opinion:Polis was an unwitting messenger of a new truth — cows in the West are no longer sacredPushback against a “meatless day” proclaimed by Gov. Jared Polis last month was predictably vigorous. It was part of the “war on rural Colorado,” said a state senator who runs a cattle-feeding operation. Twenty-six of Colorado’s 64 counties adopted “meat-in” proclamations. Governors from the adjoining states of Wyoming and Nebraska even gleefully designated an “eat-meat” day.

Afterward, Polis’s press aides pointed to the hundreds of do-good proclamations the governor issues each year, and the governor quickly declared his beef brisket the rival of any in Colorado.

But this proclamation differed from those affirming truck drivers, bat awareness and breakfast burritos. It called for broad change. Using the language of a “MeatOut” Day proclamation written by an animal rights group, his statement cited the benefits of a plant-based diet in reducing our carbon footprint, preserving ecosystems and preventing animal cruelty. It also noted the growing alternatives to meat, dairy and eggs.

In the 1880s, when my great-grandparents homesteaded in eastern Colorado, they grazed cattle on the short-grass prairie. Ranchers still do. Once off the range, though, our beef production is best understood as an industrial process. The foundation is grain.

In his book How to Avoid a Climate Disaster, Bill Gates explains the modern pyramid of protein: A chicken eats two calories’ worth of grain to give us one calorie of poultry. For cattle, it’s six calories of feed to produce one calorie of beef. I’ve stood in rows of corn tassels 12 feet high at maturity, the growth boosted by luxuriant applications of fertilizer. I’ve pinched my nose while driving past feedlots large enough for 80,000 or more head. I’ve heard the bellow of cows minutes away from the knife at slaughterhouses.

Denver no longer has slaughterhouses but still prides itself on its livestock heritage. The annual Western Stock Show puts cowboy hats in high-end restaurants and strip joints alike. Cattle represent 50% of Colorado’s $7 billion agriculture economy, and livestock altogether 70%.After Polis’s proclamation, livestock producers debated boycotting Denver’s Stock Show for other venues — perhaps Oklahoma.

Even a legislator from one of metro Denver’s poorer neighborhoods objected to Polis’s proclamation, pointing out that nutritious vegetarian options aren’t available to many of her constituents.

But it’s not just low-income areas that lack meal choices. Fast-food franchises in big cities and small towns all cater to the lowest-common denominator, their high-volume enterprises predicated on cheap meat, especially beef. The consequences are that we now have bulbous bellies and too many heart attacks. We struggle to live with restraint.

The meaty issue here is not about meat vs. no-meat. Rather, it’s about scale and processes. What have we sacrificed in pursuit of volume?

Credit the ranchers who graze cattle holistically in an attempt to replicate the once-vast herds of bison. But also note that grass-fed beef needs buyers. Most holistically raised cows get further fattened on grain. That’s where the market is.

There’s also the looming issue of cows contributing to climate change, as highly polluting methane comes out of both ends of cattle. Gates, always the technologist, insists that innovation can reduce the carbon output of agriculture by reducing our yen for real beef. He put his money where my mouth is by investing in a vegetarian product called the Impossible Burger. Last week I had one. It fooled me. I thought it was beef.

Meanwhile, the urban-rural divide remains starkly real and evident in voting and development patterns. While cities struggle to contain their growth, many small towns struggle to hang on. Ironically, the economies of most of these at-risk rural towns are premised on industrial-scale agriculture.

Rural Colorado never has liked Polis, a savvy businessman from the exurbs of Boulder who favors market solutions. He had barely warmed his gubernatorial seat when handmade signs began showing up on rural country roads asking “Why does Polis hate…” You fill in the blank.

This meatless proclamation was tone-deaf. It could have narrowly affirmed meatless alternatives rather than decried meat. Denial and anger will not prevail, though. I’m reminded of when coal producers, 10 and 15 years ago, were fighting the future of renewables instead of figuring out their place in the world to come.

Though most of us may continue to eat beef, some of us have already begun to shift away. Polis was perhaps the unwitting messenger of that truth — that cows in the West are no longer sacred.

ESPN has fired NBA analyst Paul Pierce, a source confirmed to The Post.

The decision was made after Pierce published racy Instagram videos on Friday, showing him smoking what appeared to be marijuana and with scantily clad women whom may have been strippers.

The news was first reported by Barrett Sports Media’s Ryan Glasspiegel.

Pierce, 43, has been on a bit of a downward trajectory at ESPN but had hung on enough where he was a regular contributor to its top studio shows, “NBA Countdown” and “The Jump.” During a recent show, he went on the air and said the wrong team won. He was quickly corrected.

According to sources, ESPN was particularly miffed that Pierce chose to put the videos out on his own accord. If he had been filmed doing the same activities and they became public by someone else, he may have kept his job.

When the news became public on Monday, Pierce went to Twitter and posted a four-second video that said, “Smile” and the message, “Big Things coming soon stay tuned make sure u smile #Truthshallsetufree.”

Pierce is expected to be voted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this year.

ESPN, which declined comment, has no immediate plans to replace Pierce, as it has a host of analysts it can rotate in.

Colorado is auctioning off pot-themed license plates until ‘420’(CNN) — For the right price, 14 Colorado drivers can show their love for the state’s legal green.

Colorado is auctioning rights for 14 different official state license plates with phrases like “BONG,” “GANJA,” “HEMP” and “ISIT420.” The revenue from these extremely obvious nods to all things cannabis will go to the Colorado Disability Funding Committee, Democratic Gov. Jared Polis’ office told CNN. This is the committee’s first ever pot-themed license plate auction, and it will go until April 20, the unofficial holiday celebrating cannabis use.

All signs show this auction could see Rocky Mountain high revenues. Previous auctions have included the letter “X” which sold for $20,000, “5280” which sold for $6,800 and “MCLAREN” which sold for $6,000, according to Polis’ office.

One particularly potent license plate has fetched more than 90 bids as of April 5: “TEGRIDY,” a nod to a cannabis farm featured in the Colorado-based South Park cartoon.

Marijuana Moment previously reported on the license plate auction.

On the auction site, bidders are cautioned: “DON’T DRIVE HIGH! PLEASE USE CANNABIS RESPONSIBLY, WITHIN THE LIMITS OF ALL COLORADO LAWS.”

Colorado legalized recreational marijuana in 2012 and since has seen an explosion of growth in the business. In 2019, the state’s industry made a record $1.75 billion in sales.

Ryan Patrick Bengard, 42, was arrested March 26 and has been charged with nine counts of possessing an assault weapon and seven counts of possessing a short-barreled shotgun, according to jail and court records.

The Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest, the alleged threats and the seizure of the weapons Saturday in a post on Twitter but didn’t identify the suspect. Carrie Braun, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Department, said in an email that privacy laws prohibit the department from identifying the suspect because he possibly suffers from a medical condition.

In its Twitter post, the Sheriff's Department wrote, "During the investigation it was determined the man may be suffering from mental illness." Deputies from a recently formed bureau that specializes in handling suspects with possible mental illness were contacted, according to the tweet.

The Sheriff's Department did not release details of the threats Bengard allegedly made.

Bengard is the son of Kim and Thomas Bengard, a San Clemente couple who founded a successful automobile accessories company and are prominent donors to local conservative politicians and causes.

Neither parent immediately returned phone and email messages.

Orange County Superior Court records show that a man with his father's name sought a restraining order against Bengard on March 26, although details were not available. The man and two others with the same last name also sought restraining orders against Bengard in 2007, records show.

In 2015, after pleading guilty to misdemeanor DUI charges, Bengard was sentenced to 90 days in jail and ordered to complete an alcohol-abuse program and perform community service. He was placed on three years of informal probation, ending in 2019, according to court records.

In 2003, Bengard pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace. A year later, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of assault and battery, according to court records.

Bengard's mother was president as recently as last year of the Family Action political action committee, which for 20 years has given money to conservative candidates seeking seats on the county board of education, local school boards and city councils, according to records filed with the state. Most recently, the committee endorsed former state Sen. John Moorlach in his campaign for a seat on the Orange County Board of Supervisors.
