Woman visits ATM to withdraw $20. Bank tells her she has a negative balance of $1B.

A Florida woman said that she recently visited a Chase Bank ATM to withdraw $20 — but believed her balance was impossibly high at nearly $1 billion.

Julia Yonkowski of Largo, Florida, visited an ATM on Saturday to withdraw the small sum when she found herself agog over her what she believed was her balance: nearly $1 billion.

According to WFLA-TV, Yonkowski said that her bank balance showed $999,985,855.94.

Yonkowski told the station, "Oh, my God, I was horrified. I know most people would think they won the lottery, but I was horrified. When I put in for the $20, the machine came back and said we'll give you the $20 but that'll cause an overdraft and you will be charged and I said, 'Oh just forget it.'"

She knew the balance couldn't be right, so she reached out to the bank only to find out that the institution froze her account after her husband passed away — and that the amount wasn't nearly $1 billion, but nearly a negative $1 billion.

A spokesperson for Chase Bank told the New York Post that the bank posted the massive negative balance "to draw her attention to an issue with her account."

That issue, according to WFLA, was a freeze on her account.

What did the bank say?

The station spoke with a Chase Bank representative on Tuesday, who shed more light on the situation.

"The representative said it wasn't a positive balance, but a negative balance of nearly a billion dollars that was listed," WFLA's Olivia Steen reported. "[The representative] explained it's a fraud prevention method used to freeze an account, which is why Yonkowski couldn't withdraw any money."

"Yonkowski's late husband was a joint owner of the bank account, and it was flagged when she attempted to use it," WFLA's report added. "Chase Bank said people are required to turn in proper documentation in a situation like this to avoid a freeze on a joint bank account."

Law Signed by DeSantis Will Allow for Forced Vaccinations

A law signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will allow for the Florida Department of Health to forcibly vaccinate Florida residents. S.B. 2006 was signed into law by DeSantis on May 3, 2021 and immediately hailed as a major victory by many medical freedom advocates.

The law bans so-called “Vaccine Passports” and adds certain restrictions on state and local governments during a declared public health emergency.

A little known and little spoken of section of the law, which will go into effect July 1, states: “The state health officer, upon declaration of a public health emergency, may take actions that are necessary to protect the public health.”

Some of these actions include: “Ordering an individual to be examined, tested, vaccinated, treated, isolated, or quarantined for communicable diseases that have a significant morbidity or mortality and present a severe danger to public health.”

Those refusing these actions “may be subjected to isolation or quarantine.”

The most disturbing part is a section beneath which reads, “If the individual poses a danger to the public health, the State Health Officer may subject the individual to isolation or quarantine, if there is no practical method to isolate or quarantine the individual, the State Health Officer may use ANY MEANS NECESSARY to vaccinate or treat the individual.”

Former New York DEA Investigator Convicted Of Enticing A Minor To Have Sex And Child Pornography Charges

Audrey Strauss, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced today the conviction in Manhattan federal court of FREDERICK L. SCHEININ for attempted production of child pornography, attempted receipt of child pornography, and attempted enticement of a minor. The jury convicted SCHEININ today following a five-day trial before U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff.

U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss said: “As a DEA investigator, Frederick Scheinin was tasked with the important job of protecting the public from the illegal diversion and abuse of prescription drugs, but he betrayed the public trust by spending months trying to prey on a minor for his sexual pleasure. Scheinin now stands convicted of these heinous crimes. This office and our law enforcement partners will continue to work tirelessly to detect and apprehend those who pose a threat to children.”

Up until the time of his arrest, SCHEININ was an investigator in the New York Field Office of the Drug Enforcement Administration (“DEA”). According to the Indictment, documents previously filed in the case, and evidence introduced at trial:

Between October 2019 and January 2020, SCHEININ communicated with an undercover law enforcement officer (“UC‑1”) who was posing as a 14-year-old boy. During the course of hundreds of graphic text communications and multiple real-time conversations, SCHEININ repeatedly sent sexually explicit images and videos to UC-1 in an attempt to persuade UC-1 to transmit sexually explicit images, photos, and live visual depictions of UC-1 to SCHEININ. In particular, SCHEININ repeatedly asked UC-1 to transmit images and videos of UC-1’s penis and anus. SCHEININ also attempted to arrange a meeting with UC-1 at which SCHEININ planned to have sex with UC-1. Law enforcement arrested SCHEININ on January 16, 2020, in New York, New York, at the location where SCHEININ said he would meet UC-1. SCHEININ was in possession of a condom and lubricant at the time of his arrest.

SCHEININ, 33, was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals following the return of the verdict. Attempted production of child pornography carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison; attempted receipt of child pornography carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison; and attempted enticement of a minor carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and maximum sentence of life in prison. SCHEININ is scheduled to be sentenced on September 23, 2021, at 4:00 p.m.

Navy Mechanic Sentenced to 210 Years for Sexually Assaulting 7 Young Girls, Producing Child Pornography

RANDALL TILTON, 32, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer in New Haven to 210 years of imprisonment for child pornography production offenses related to his sexual of abuse of seven young girls in three states over the course of several years.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on November 1, 2019, Tilton was arrested on state sexual assault charges after he admitted in an interview with Town of Groton Police that he had sexually assaulted several minor victims, and that he had recorded some of the sexual assaults. Subsequent examination of a laptop, tablet, cellphone and two flash drives seized from Tilton revealed that, beginning in approximately 2014, Tilton sexually assaulted seven girls who were between the ages of four months and eight years old. Tilton photographed and video recorded many of these sexual assaults. Some of the images depict a minor victim bound and restrained while Tilton sexually assaulted her. Tilton distributed some of the videos of these sexual assaults on the dark web through the Tor network.

Tilton’s electronic devices also included thousands of images and videos of the sexual abuse of other minors, including sadomasochistic images of minors in bondage, sexual assaults on infants, and sexual acts on the corpse of a minor.

When he was arrested, Tilton was employed as a forward auxiliary mechanic in the U.S. Navy and was residing in Groton. The investigation revealed that Tilton sexually assaulted children in Connecticut, New Hampshire and California.

Tilton systematically and repeatedly preyed upon young children for his own sexual pleasure,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Leonard C Boyle. “And since some of videos of his sexual abuse of one child will likely exist forever on the internet, he has ensured that she will continue to be victimized, every time those images are viewed by others, for the rest of her life. I commend the FBI, NCIS and Groton Town Police Department investigators for helping to ensure justice for these children and their families, and I thank the New London State’s Attorney’s Office for its close cooperation in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Their combined effort, and this severe sentence, will undoubtedly protect children from future harm.”

“The Groton community is safer today now that a serial sexual predator who preyed on numerous children, the majority of whom are Navy dependents, has been brought to justice,” said NCIS Northeast Field Office Special Agent in Charge Michael Wiest. “We offer our heartfelt gratitude to the Groton Town Police Department and the FBI for their substantial efforts to bring resolution to these reprehensible crimes. Tilton has been detained since his arrest. On December 7, 2020, he pleaded guilty to seven counts of production of child pornography.

Laurel Man Pleads Guilty in Maryland to Federal Charge of Receipt of Child Pornography

Also Possessed and Distributed Child Pornography

Greenbelt, Maryland – Barry Thomas Goldsborough, age 52, of Laurel, Maryland, pleaded guilty today to a federal charge for receipt of child pornography and to violating his federal supervised release for two previous federal sex offense convictions for attempting to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity and for possession of child pornography. Goldsborough has been detained since his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Maryland on September 23, 2020.

The guilty plea was announced by Acting United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Jonathan F. Lenzner; Special Agent in Charge James R. Mancuso of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Baltimore; Colonel Woodrow W. Jones III, Superintendent of the Maryland State Police; and Chief Malik Aziz of the Prince George’s County Police Department.

According his plea agreement, on April 8, 2019, Yahoo sent a CyberTipline Report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that an email account associated with Goldsborough had uploaded 181 files of suspected child pornography to his Yahoo account. Law enforcement subsequently reviewed the 181 files and determined that approximately 70 of the 181 files were considered child pornography.

On November 19, 2019, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Goldsborough’s residence in Laurel and seized several electronic devices. A review of one of the devices revealed one image of child pornography. Law enforcement subsequently obtained a search warrant for Goldsborough’s email address, which revealed that Goldsborough sent and received multiple images of child pornography. For example, on January 27, 2018, Goldsborough received an image of child pornography from another email address. Goldsborough responded to the sender, indicating that he liked young girls between eight and 14 years old. Goldsborough also claimed to have had sex with an 11-year-old girl.

Law enforcement also obtained a search warrant for an Internet storage account associated with Goldsborough’s email address. A review of the records found approximately 26 videos documenting the sexual abuse of children.

Goldsborough has two prior federal sex offense convictions involving minor children. Specifically, a prior conviction for attempted enticement of a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee and a prior conviction for possession of child pornography in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Goldsborough was serving a 72-month term of federal supervised release from those two prior federal convictions at the time he committed the instant offense. . As part of his plea agreement, Goldsborough acknowledged that he will be required to continue to register as a sex offender in the places where he resides, is an employee, and is a student, pursuant to the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA), and the laws of his state of residence. Goldsborough will also be required to pay an additional special assessment of $5,000.

Goldsborough and the government have agreed that, if the Court accepts the plea, Goldsborough will be sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for receipt of child pornography and a consecutive sentence of between 15 and 21 months in federal prison for multiple violations of his federal supervised release. U.S. District Judge George J. Hazel has scheduled sentencing for October 20, 2021, at 10:00 a.m.

Whether or not a married couple establishes a bank account as a tenancy by the entirety account or as a joint tenancy with right of survivorship account is critically important, as demonstrated by Wexler v. Rich (Fla. 4th DCA February 22, 2012).

What Is A Tenancy By the Entirety Account?

Under Florida law, if a bank account is a tenancy by the entirety account, one spouse may not transfer money from the account without the consent of the other spouse. Beal Bank v. Almand, 780 So. 2d 45, 53 (Fla. 2001).

What Is A Joint Tenancy With Right of Survivorship Account?

If a bank account is joint tenancy with right of survivorship, either joint owner can transfer funds out, and a “joint owner’s withdrawal of funds from a joint bank account terminates the ‘joint tenancy nature of the [funds] and severs the right of survivorship as to the funds withdrawn.” Sitomer v. Orlan, 660 So. 2d 1111, 1114 (Fla. 4th DCA 1995).

Why Does the Titling of Bank Accounts Matter?

In Wexler v. Rich, Donald Rich (deceased) opened two bank accounts in his name. Several months later, both accounts were converted into multi-party accounts with his spouse, Miriam. The bank’s forms to open the new accounts contained options for “Ownership of Account,” two of which were “Multiple-Party Account” and “Multiple-Party Account – Tenancy by the Entireties.”

The bank employee assisting Miriam and Donald checked the “Multiple-Party Account” option, and selected “Multiple-Party Account with Right of Survivorship” for the beneficiary designation. The bank employee selected the “Multiple-Party Account” option because Miriam and Donald did not request a tenancy by the entireties account. The bank employee did not discuss a tenancy by entireties form of ownership with Miriam and Donald. The Vatican has lodged an “unprecedented” interference in Italian politics by objecting to a law that would criminalise violence and hate speech against gay and transgender people.

The Holy See confirmed on Tuesday that it had sent a diplomatic protest to the government of prime minister Mario Draghi over the so-called Zan bill, which would punish acts of discrimination and incitement to violence against gay, lesbian, transgender and disabled people.

The bill, promoted by Alessandro Zan, a gay MP from the centre-Left Democratic Party, was approved by the lower house of parliament in November.

It is now going through the Senate, where it faces stiff resistance from hard-Right politicians such as Matteo Salvini, the head of the League, and Giorgia Meloni, the up-and-coming leader of Brothers of Italy, heirs to Italy’s Fascist movement.

Conservatives and some Catholics argue that the bill would be an attack on freedom of expression and that it is unnecessary because existing laws already condemn homophobia.

The Vatican is worried that the passing of the law could lead to the Catholic Church in Italy being prosecuted for refusing to conduct gay marriages, for opposing adoption by gay couples through Catholic institutions or for refusing to teach gender theory in Catholic schools.

But its decision to lodge a formal protest with Italy, a separate sovereign state, was described by atheist groups and LGBT associations, as well as the Italian press, as “unprecedented”.

The protest was sent last week by a British archbishop, Paul Gallagher, who as Secretary for Relations with States is effectively the Vatican’s foreign minister.

The Vatican argues that the Zan bill violates the Concordat, part of the Lateran Pacts that have since 1929 governed relations Rome and the Holy See.

The proposed law would jeopardise the “liberty” that was guaranteed by the treaty to the Catholic Church in Italy, the diplomatic note said.

The Italian Bishops Conference has already protested against the bill, saying that a “law intended to fight discrimination must not pursue that objective with intolerance.”

The bill would “put at risk” fundamental principles such as freedom of thought and speech, Cesare Mirabelli, a former president of Italy's constitutional court, told Vatican News, the Vatican’s news outlet.

But Mr Zan, the MP pushing the bill, said the Vatican’s concerns were unfounded. “The bill does not restrict in any way freedom of expression or religious freedom,” he wrote on Twitter.

“All the concerns and doubts will be listened to, but there cannot be any foreign interference in the workings of a sovereign parliament.”

Of course, this is the typical anti-gun insanity we see.

I’m constantly amazed at just how vilified the AR-15 and similar rifles are despite the hard facts that few crimes are committed with such weapons. Even mass shootings, which anti-gunners love to bring up in discussions about assault weapon bans, are mostly committed with handguns.

As a result, such bans don’t really make anyone safer.

Yet that’s never been a fact that California’s state government seems to be inclined to acknowledge. They don’t like guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens. I guess they’re OK with criminals having them, since that’s who is going to have them all as it stands, and they don’t seem to be doing much to address that, but what else is new?

The fact of the matter is that Benitez’s ruling was always going to set the stage for a Supreme Court showdown.

With luck, the Court will hear the case and then put an end to these kinds of bans forever. Especially in light of the Heller decision that made it clear that weapons in common use could not be banned by the government. Somehow, people forget that’s how the ruling went, and by “people” I mean judges who should remember that part.

We’ll have to see how this ends up shaking out, but nothing in this is surprising. We always knew the Ninth Circus wouldn’t let Benitez’s ruling stand on its own, nor would the state of California. We also know where they’re likely to come down on the issue, thus necessitating a potential Supreme Court case.

We also know how the Supreme Court is likely to rule on something like this, and California isn’t going to like it.

Honestly, there are few surprises in this case so far. We just have to follow all the necessary steps before we can move forward and hopefully restore the Second Amendment rights for millions of Californians.

Trump Wins: Federal Judge Tosses Most Of BLM’s Claims Against President, Bill Barr, US Officials Over Lafayette Park Incident

On Tuesday, a federal judge in Washington, D.C., dismissed a number of claims leveled at former President Donald Trump, former Attorney General William Barr, and other U.S. government and Washington, D.C., officials over what Black Lives Matter and the American Civil Liberties Union claimed was an unnecessary show of force in Lafayette Square, across from the White House, last year.

The Washington Post reported that the plaintiffs, including BLM and the ACLU, claimed that “the government used unnecessary force to enable a photo op of President Donald Trump holding a Bible outside of the historical St. John’s Church.”

U.S. District Judge Dabney L. Friedrich of Washington called allegations that federal officials conspired to make way for the photo too speculative,” the outlet continued.

The judge also said that Barr and then-Park Police chief Gregory T. Monahan were acting within the scope of their duties and, as such, are immune from civil suits. She later added that the Black Lives Matter organization did not have standing to sue because it could not prove that it was directly harmed by the president’s walkabout or an earlier decision by Park Police to push protesters further from the White House.

The claims, the judge said, relied on “conclusory allegations” that “Trump, Barr and then-Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper directed a conspiracy to violate the civil rights of demonstrators just before the park was cleared.”

“Friedrich acknowledged claims that Trump tweeted threats and encouragement of violence against protesters, and ordered Barr take charge of the situation before Barr mobilized law enforcement and appeared at the square just before it was cleared,” the Washington Post reported. “The judge also said the square was cleared right before Trump, Barr, and Esper’s walk to the church. But these events weren’t enough to allow conspiracy claims to go forward without further, specific factual allegations, Friedrich wrote.”

She also refused, Politico added, to grant protesters an injunction against further action on the part of the federal government — a request that could, essentially, allow them to avoid arrest.

“The plaintiffs’ claims of impending future harm are too speculative to confer standing to seek an injunction,” the judge noted.

In their suit, BLM and the ACLU claimed that Park Police “officers attacked and improperly dispersed the protesters—they did not restrain them or attempt to seize them in place…,” but the judge responded that “quite the opposite was true—the officers attempted to cause the protestors and fleeing crowd to leave their location, rather than cause them to remain there.”

The Office of the Inspector General for the U.S. Department of the Interior found, earlier this month, that a decision was made to expand the perimeter in Lafayette Square and press protesters back before President Trump decided to take a walkabout, traveling from the White House across the square to St. Paul’s Church, which sustained some fire damage in earlier aggressive protests. Park Police, the report notes, were, in some cases, surprised that to see the president.

“The evidence we obtained did not support a finding that the [United States Park Police] cleared the park to allow the president to survey the damage and walk to St. John’s Church. Instead, the evidence we reviewed showed that the USPP cleared the park to allow the contractor to safely install the antiscale fencing in response to the destruction of property and injury to officers occurring on May 30 and 31,” the Inspector General’s report read.

An Alabama community was plunged into deep grief after a car accident Saturday killed 10 people — nine of them children, including a 9-month-old.

Eight of the children, ages 3 to 17, were traveling in a vehicle owned by a residential home for youths when they were killed in Butler County, Alabama, about an hour southwest of Montgomery.

The small bus operated by the Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranches, whose mission is "to provide Christian, family-style residential homes for Alabama's needy, neglected, or abused, school-age children,” was in a pileup of more than a dozen cars on Interstate 65. Officials suspect the crash was triggered by wet weather from the remnants of Tropical Storm Claudette.

Four of the children who perished from the crash were girls who lived at the ranch, and the other four children who died were related to someone who worked at the ranch, according to AL.com.

The two other victims, Cody Fox, a 29-year-old father, and his 9-month-old, Ariana, were killed in a separate vehicle.

“I’ll tell you what I do know, those children are in a much better place, they’re with God, cause they all love God,” Michael Smith, the CEO of the Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranch, told the NBC affiliate WSFA.

Smith, who spent time with the girls who attended his organization's Tallapoosa County ranch, said he “felt like the blessed one” being able to know them.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Alabama Highway Patrol sent 10 investigators to the scene Sunday to look into “vehicle technologies such as forward collision warning systems, CMV fuel tank integrity, motor carrier operations and occupant survivability,” according to the NTSB’s Twitter account.

Over the weekend, mourners gathered to grieve and pray together at Tallapoosa County's Reeltown High School, where girls who died Saturday went to school. Their names have not been released.

One of the girls who stays at the ranch and remained unnamed because she is in state custody, spoke at the high school, remembering her lost “sisters.”

“When people hear about the ranch, they usually assume that the girls have done something wrong or bad to get there. But that’s not the case,’' she said, according to AL.com. “These girls have been through so much, and they were such strong, wonderful, kind family members and it was my privilege and my honor to be their big sister.”

“I’ve lost a lot of family throughout my entire life, and I’ve been prepared for a lot of situations, but nothing could have prepared me for this,’' the teen whose speech offered a glimpse into the lives of the girls said.

The girls at the ranch often come from backgrounds of neglect or abuse and find a safe haven through the program, the teen said. There, they learn about faith and find community in one another.

Located in Camp Hill, Alabama, the Tallapoosa County Sheriffs Youth Ranch houses high schoolers in crisis. The ranch there has three homes for girls, three staff houses, an office, a chapel, gym and pool, according to the website. Opened by the Alabama Sheriffs' Association in 1973, it was meant to provide children with stability as they navigate high school.

"The Ranches are homes for these children, not reform schools or correctional institutions," according to its website.

The group also takes the girls on trips and vacations, one of which they were returning from when the crash occurred.

Reeltown High Principal Cliff Maddox struggled to find words at the ceremony, AL.com reported.

“Everybody’s still in shock. I’m in a fog. I can’t hardly talk," he said.

Tallapoosa County Schools Superintendent Raymond C. Porter said in a statement that his district will try to provide support to the grieving students and their parents.

“At Reeltown School, we have counselors available for any student who may need or want help or any type of assistance surrounding this loss. We encourage you, as parents, to also feel free to use our resources,” he wrote in a letter to parents Sunday.

Sun Yang banned from Olympics in court ruling backflip

Controversial Chinese swimmer Sun Yang has been found guilty of doping for a third time after a dramatic court-ruling backflip.

CAS, which came to the decision after a high-profile three-day retrial, said the suspension was backdated to February 28, 2020 — meaning he will be able to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics when he will be 32-years-old.

Wednesday morning’s ruling was the final nail in Sun Yang’s Olympics dream coffin, despite having succesfully overturned the 2020 ruling that saw him smacked with an eight year ban during a Supreme Court appeal in December.

It is also the sweetest of victories for Aussie Mack Horton.

Long-simmering hostility towards Sun Yang from some of his rivals burst into the open at the Rio 2016 Olympics when Horton blasted Sun as a “drug cheat” before pipping him to gold in the 400m freestyle.

The usually steely Sun broke down in tears.

Then, at an ill-tempered 2019 world championships, Horton refused to pose for pictures with Sun on the medal podium, a protest repeated by Britain’s Duncan Scott.

French swimmer Camille Lacourt had also caused another storm at the Rio Games by declaring “Sun Yang pisses purple”.

The series of public condemnations resulted in Sun’s angry outburst at the 2019 world championships when he shouted “I win, you loser” at Scott.

Sun will not get his chance to reply in Tokyo this year.

The swimming competition at the Tokyo Games, postponed a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, is due to start on July 24.

Ministry of Interior in Spain's Madrid Evacuated Over Suspicious Package - Reports

The building of the Spanish Ministry of Internal Affairs in Madrid has been evacuated over a suspicious parcel received by the agency, Spanish El Mundo newspaper reported on Tuesday, adding that it was a false alarm.

The suspicious package was screened at the security checkpoint at the entrance. The building was evacuated after which the Tedax bomb disposal units arrived at the scene.

The streets adjacent to the ministry were cordoned off, and residents were urged to stay at home.

Although the package did not contain anything hazardous, the Civil Guard is said to continue the investigation.

In April, the Spanish minister of industry, trade and tourism, Reyes Maroto, received a red-stained knife along with a threatening letter sent to his office. Also in April, the leader of the left-wing party Unidas Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and the head of the Civil Guard, Maria Gamez, were reported to have received threatening letters with bullet cartridges inside.

WSJ: American University Vaccine Mandates Violate Medical Ethics

t’s incredible when you think about it. Not only do US colleges require most students to take on six-figure debts in order to pay for their higher education, but now these same wealthy institutions are now requiring that student subject themselves to medical experiments as a condition of being allowed on campus.

This situation is unprecedented, and at present there is still no visible pushback happening in either the press, or in political conversation.

American cardiologist Dr Peter McCullough remarked during a recent television interview:

“If we are going to put out a vaccine and we are going to say we are going to mass vaccinate the world, we better be hawks on safety. Independent data safety and monitoring boards, we better be looking at every event being reported in every safety database and assure America that the program is safe…”

He adds, “There is the principle of autonomy. This is very important. It is written into the Nuremberg Code. We live by it every day. It says the person, the individual, gets to decide what happens to their body.”

Indeed, for millions of students in the United States, all of that has been brushed aside in this new and increasingly fascistic culture of ‘health and safety.’

When pressed on the matter, school administrators will just as soon shrug their shoulders and say, ‘Well, what else can we do? Everyone else is doing the same.’

None of it is legal either. As US legal precedent shows, by using coercion by effectively blackmailing young students (who happen to be at roughly zero risk of ever getting ill from COVID-19) universities are acting outside the law and in doing so, they are callously marginalising the lives of their young students by treating them like glorified human guinea pigs.

It’s an incredible state of affairs.

"I'm Not Going Back To Work": Indiana Residents Sue After Governor Nixes Unemployment Benefits

A group of Indiana residents have filed a lawsuit against state officials, challenging the state's decision to end federal unemployment benefits by the end of the week.

The lawsuit, filed last Monday, seeks to preserve what was supposed to be temporary pandemic safety net of $300 per week on top of other state or federal benefits, after indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb announced last month that the state would pull out of the federal program before it's official September end date in order to motivate unemployed people to help fill the state's more than 116,000 open jobs.

Holcomb is joined by around two dozen mostly red states.

"It's not black and white," said Sharon Singer-Mann in a statement to IndyStar. "Everybody's story is not the same. I'm not going back to work, not at the risk of my son's life."

"We'll have to decide which utility bill to pay, which household items to let go of," she added (despite the 116,000 open jobs), "… We'll have to change what kind of shampoo we use, what kind of toilet paper we use."

Without the federal pandemic unemployment benefits, many Indiana residents, like Singer-Mann, say they would have had to choose between finding a job and taking care of their children, face evictions, forgo medical care and grapple with devastating financial setbacks that could derail their lives.

Those stories from residents are outlined in a lawsuit filed against Indiana state officials Monday in Marion County Superior Court challenging the state's decision to end federal benefits by the end of this week. -IndyStar

"Our community is dealing with enough stress and trauma," said Rev. David Greene, president of the Concerned Clergy of Indianapolis and a plaintiff in the lawsuit against the state along with residents represented by the Indiana Legal Services nonprofit law firm which represents low-income residents.

When asked about the lawsuit, Holcomb's office responded: "DWD has timely notified impacted claimants about the state’s withdrawal from the federal programs and continues to connect impacted people with the resources they need to gain skills and be matched with employment."

With Its Power Grid On The Verge Of Failure, California Begs Residents To Change Their EV Charging Routines

It appears as though California's plans to become an environmental and socialist utopia are running face first into reality.

The latest dose of reality came this week when the state, facing triple digit temperatures, began to "fret" about pressure on the state's power grid as a result of everybody charging their electric vehicles all at once.

The state's power grid operators have been telling residents to "relieve pressure" from the grid by charging their EVs at off-peak hours, Newsweek wrote.

Twice last week the California Independent System Operator (ISO) told residents to conserve energy voluntarily, including asking to charge their EVs at certain off-peak times. The ISO also suggested "avoiding use of large appliances and turning off extra lights," the report says.

The state's Flex Alert Twitter account posted on June 18: "Now is the perfect time to do a load of laundry. Remember to use major appliances, charge cars and devices before #FlexAlert begins at 6 p.m. today."

Despite the fact that the state seems hell bent on converting all of its residents to EVs, Patty Monahan, the lead commissioner on transportation at the California Energy Commission, said that when residents choose to charge their vehicles will be important "in keeping the power grid balanced".

"Charging behaviors matter when it comes to California grid goals," she said. "By incentivizing, primarily through rates, charging behaviors that capitalize on when renewable energy is being generated—we basically have a win for the grid, and we have a win for the drivers in terms of reduced rates. Rates are a climate strategy, and California plans on using rates to help drive the charging behaviors that are going to help the state electrify transportation while cutting carbon from the grid and saving ratepayers and drivers money."

Matthew Moniot, a researcher with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory said that most drivers who charge at night "will have to change" their routines: "If you look at aggregate load across the grid, it tends to spike in the evening hours whenever people come home." He called it a "tricky problem" that relies on "how much can we move what's currently overnight charging to be during the daytime hours, when generation may be more excessive."

Almost 40 journalists are leaving the Chicago Tribune’s newsroom as part of a voluntary buyout program announced late last month by Tribune Publishing.

The buyouts were offered to nonunion employees two days after hedge fund Alden Global Capital completed its $633 million acquisition of Tribune Publishing, the owner of the Chicago Tribune and other metropolitan daily newspapers. After negotiations with the Chicago Tribune Guild, the program was offered to the newsroom’s union employees.

More than a dozen nonunion editors and support staff in the Tribune’s newsroom took buyouts. Another 24 newsroom employees who are members of the guild applied for and were accepted for buyouts, according to Greg Pratt, a Tribune reporter and guild president.

He said applications by three other members were denied, and the union hopes the company reconsiders their applications. After the departures, the guild will represent more than 80 newsroom employees, Pratt said.

A spokeswoman for Tribune Publishing did not immediately return a call for comment.

Alden completed its purchase of Tribune Publishing on May 24, taking the Chicago-based newspaper chain private. The hedge fund immediately saddled the formerly debt-free Tribune Publishing with two loans totaling $278 million, removed CEO Terry Jimenez and installed Alden President Heath Freeman to lead the company.

A distressed-investment hedge fund with a reputation as one of the industry’s most aggressive cost-cutters, Alden has become the second-largest newspaper owner in the U.S. behind Gannett.

In an email to the newsroom last week, Chicago Tribune Editor-in-Chief Colin McMahon said the losses to the newsroom “will be a significant number of people and a tremendous loss of talent, passion and grit. … That said, this newsroom retains its own reserve of tremendous talent, passion and grit.”

"I am not convinced that we're gonna have a free and fair election in 2022 unless we get 2020 squared away," Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn said.

Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn argued Tuesday that 2020 voter-fraud issues cannot be forgotten and suggest the issue will reemerge in the upcoming midterms, saying "election integrity is not something that's gonna go away,"

Flynn told the "John Solomon Reports" podcast on Tuesday, "There's one thing I learned in my political persecution, the truth will come out – it will come out, and it is coming out. And actually the people of this country, that's all they want. If it was just mistakes made, people will forgive – the American people will forgive mistakes."

Flynn as a member of the 2016 Trump campaign, then as White House national security adviser, pled guilty to lying to the FBI only to have President Trump pardon him after the Justice Department asked U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan to dismiss the charge.

"But if there's corruption, criminal activity, and malfeasance, to use your words, then the American people are not – they're going to be very unforgiving,' Flynn continued Tuesday. "So it's better to come out sooner than later because if it comes out later, I'm afraid that the American people will – they'll take actions into their own hands."

He spoke as amid GOP-led audits of 2020 presidential election votes in Arizona's Maricopa County and in Georgia's Fulton County.

"What I'm trying to encourage is local action has a national impact – get involved in your communities," Flynn said. "I'm seeing more and more people get involved at the local, you know, township, parishes, and county levels. And American people are not – they're like a pit bull right now on this election integrity issue, and they're not going to let go."

Flynn explained how his nonprofit, America's Future, is funding election integrity efforts in Maricopa County, and will likely try to help up in Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia.

"All these things are going to happen," he said. "These are going to happen, whether they like it or not – whether the Democrats like it or not. So election integrity is not something that's gonna go away. And I am not convinced that we're gonna have a free and fair election in 2022 unless we get 2020 squared away.

"We have to get it resolved. We have to resolve it. And the American people – I don't want the American people to feel like, 'You know what? My vote doesn't count, so I'm not going to go vote.' I want them to firmly believe in the election process."
