President Trump released a statement today addressing the recent comments by General Mark Milley, the current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and called for his resignation.

 

The President’s response in part addresses General Milley’s comments last week in response to Rep. Matt Gaetz supporting the Critical Race Theory.

 

Gen. Mark Milley’s greatest fear is upsetting the woke mob.

 

When Black Lives Matter rioters were threatening to destroy Washington, D.C., he practically begged me not to send in the military to stop the riots.

 

Milley later issued an embarrassing and groveling apology for walking at my side to St. John’s Church, which far-left rioters almost burned to the ground the day before. Instead of denouncing the rioters, he denounced himselfβ€”a humiliation for our Military. A year later even the Fake News had to admit that their Lafayette Square narrative was a giant lie. Milley, once again, looked like a fool.

 

Now, in yet another desperate ploy to impress the Radical Left and keep his job, Milley made-up a false story that he yelled at me in the Situation Room. This is totally Fake News. If he had displayed such disrespect for his Commander-in-Chief I would have fired him immediately.

 

To further ingratiate himself with Biden, progressive Media, and the Radical Left, Milley went to Congress and actually defended Critical Race Theory being shoved down the throats of our soldiers. This Marxist, racist anti-American propaganda has no place in our Militaryβ€”I banned these training programs, now Biden and the Pentagon have resumed them. As soon as possible, Congress must defund this racist indoctrination.

Human Trafficking Arrests Explode in Central Texas

 

 

AUSTIN, TX – The Human Trafficking Unit of Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Criminal Investigations Division made several noteworthy arrests in Coryell County near Killeen this week.

 

Angelena Yvonne Cedillo (Mata), 45, of Gatesville was arrested by investigators with the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office for an outstanding warrant for Continuous Trafficking of Persons during execution of an unrelated search warrant at her residence. Cedillo (Mata) was transported to the Coryell County Jail without incident.

 

Elijah Jerry Keller, 58, of Gatesville was arrested by investigators with the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office for an outstanding warrant for Continuous Trafficking of Persons after an unrelated search warrant was executed at his residence. Keller was not at home when the search took place but was taken into custody shortly afterwards when he was found walking along the roadside. Keller was transported to the Coryell County Jail without incident.

 

Castlee Noble, 54, of Gatesville was arrested by investigators with the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office for an outstanding warrant for Trafficking of Persons during execution of an unrelated search warrant at his residence. Noble was transported to the Coryell County Jail without incident.

 

William Henderson, 66, of Troy was arrested pursuant to an outstanding warrant for Continuous Trafficking of Persons and Trafficking of Persons Under 18 years of Age, and was transported to the Coryell County Jail without incident.

 

Lorenzo Ford, 58, of Gatesville was arrested by investigators with the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office pursuant to an outstanding warrant for Continuous Trafficking of Persons warrant, while he was attending a District Court hearing in Coryell County on an unrelated criminal charge. Ford was already in custody of the Coryell County Jail.

 

Stephen Earl Williams, 65, of Gatesville was arrested by investigators with the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office pursuant to an outstanding warrant for Continuous Trafficking of Persons during execution of an unrelated search warrant at his residence. Williams was transported to the Coryell County Jail without incident.

 

These arrest warrants resulted from a request for investigative assistance from the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office, regarding a large-scale narcotics investigation that had a connection with sex trafficking offenses involving minor children.

6 arrested for alleged attempts at sex with minors following undercover FBI operation

 

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Six men from Missouri and Illinois are facing federal charges for attempting to engage in sexual activity with minors following an undercover FBI operation.

 

The cases are a result of an FBI-led operation that involved multiple federal and state law enforcement agencies. The crimes allegedly took place in the Southern District of Illinois. Authorities said the men used the internet to entice someone under the age of 17 to engage in unlawful sexual activity and travel to a specific location to engage in sexual acts with a minor. Some of the accused allegedly traveled across state lines or offered to pay for sex, which led to additional charges. During the two-day undercover operation, no actual minors were harmed, authorities said.

 

β€œChildren are vulnerable to sexual exploitation across the internet,” said U.S. Attorney Weinhoeft. β€œThat’s why we are continually updating our investigative techniques and casting a wide net over a variety of online applications and other internet platforms where children are at risk. To anyone who would prey on our kids, know this: law enforcement is watching, and you will be caught.”

 

Godfrey C. Hubbard, 52, of Sorento, Illinois, Justin Schneider, 33, of Edwardsville, Michael James Smith, 39, of Barnhart, and James Tiroch, 37, of Florissant are each charged with attempted enticement of a minor. In addition to a charge of attempted enticement of a minor, Eric E. Hamilton, II, 22, of Maryland Heights, was charged with traveling across state lines with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. Christopher M. Simmons, 30, of St. Louis, is charged with attempted commercial sex trafficking of a child, attempted enticement of a minor, and traveling across state lines with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

 

If convicted, each of the defendants can face at least 10 years in prison and could receive as much as life behind bars. Traveling across state lines to have sex with a minor is punishable by up to 30 years in prison. The charges also carry a possible lifetime term of supervised release and fines of up to $250,000.

And so we had to create software that took that data and compared it to our data to deal with the duplicate ballots and so they’re finishing that up and down here they’re wrapping that up, and then down here they’re finishing up in the boxes, getting then ready for movement.

 

Conradson: And have you heard anything regarding routers or passwords from the county?

 

Pullen: … none of that information has been provided to us, and it’s something that the Senate will have to go back to the county and request those items. So again, it’s very difficult to complete the audit without getting that information

 

Conradson: We need that information for the full forensic side correct?

Because Maricopa County did not provide data for ballots that were set aside for duplication, until about a week ago, The audit team must recheck their data and reconcile it with the County’s data.

 

This is just another roadblock that the county has put up for the audit team. For all we know, they were manipulating the data while refusing to provide it.

 

In addition, the County still refuses to provide audit officials with Dominion routers and administrative passwords which are necessary for the full forensic audit.

 

If it is found that the total number of ballots does not match the certified number of ballots, that alone is enough proof of a fraudulent election.

 

Once those results are released, Maricopa County will need to comply with this investigation.

 

Arizona Senate President Karen Fann maintains her stance that this audit is about accuracy and the Arizona Senate is in no rush to release the results.

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police have so far arrested 17 suspects in connection with the case of procuration and human trafficking of a 15-year-old girl in Mount Lavina.

 

A 15-year-old girl was sexually exploited by an individual in Mount Lavinia via social media outlets and the main suspect in connection with the incident was arrested on the 07th of June, by a special team led by Headquarter-Inspector of Mount Lavinia.

 

β€œUpon conducting further investigations, it was revealed that the girl was sexually trafficked online through special websites and social media pages. Thereafter, the investigation was taken over by the Children and Women’s Bureau of Colombo, and 17 suspects were arrested in addition to the main suspect,” Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Wednesday (Jun. 30).

 

Among those arrested are, the mother of the victim, another woman, a three-wheeler driver, a car driver, and the individual who designed the advertisement, said the Senior DIG Ajith Rohana.

 

The 15-year-old female victim had been exploited for three months and she had been handed over to various people to be exploited.

 

β€œAccording to the provisions of the Penal Code amendment Act No. 22 of 1995, procuration is an offense under the Sri Lankan Law. Therefore, those arrested in connection with the incident will be charged under the relevant sections of Procuration and the Penal Code,” Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stressed.

 

The Children and Women’s Bureau Colombo is conducting further investigations.

20 missing children recovered from Atlanta, most suspected as victims of sex trafficking

 

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - U.S. Marshals recovered 20 missing children from Atlanta in a two-week operation.

 

The U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Danbury Police Department arrested 35-year-old Wayne Marcell and charged him with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor after recovering one trafficked and endangered child,

 

That investigation stemmed from β€œOperation Not Forgotten 2021,” during which the U.S. Marshals Service Missing Child Unit led a two-week operation in the metro Atlanta area that recovered 20 endangered missing children.

 

Other participating agencies included the USMS’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF), the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), and Georgia state and local agencies.

 

β€œThe U.S. Marshals Service in the District of Connecticut would like to commend the hard work and dedication of all the law enforcement professionals involved in this case,” said Lawrence Bobnick, U.S. Marshal for the District of Connecticut. β€œWith its nationwide reach and investigative focus, the USMS appreciates opportunities such as this case to rescue innocent victims from their abductors.”

 

Of the 20 recovered, 16 of the children were suspected victims of sex trafficking. These missing children were considered to be some of the most at-risk and challenging recovery cases in the area, based on indications of high-risk factors such as victimization of child sex trafficking, child exploitation, sexual abuse, physical abuse, and medical or mental health conditions.

 

The Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015 enhanced the U.S. Marshals’ authority to assist federal, state, and local law enforcement with the recovery of missing, endangered, or abducted children, regardless of whether a fugitive or sex offender was involved.

 

The Marshals established a Missing Child Unit to oversee and manage the implementation of its enhanced authority under the act.

Coordinated action cuts off access to VPN service used by ransomware groups

 

Takedown of DoubleVPN makes it harder for criminal hackers to cover their tracks

 

This week, law enforcement and judicial authorities in Europe, the US and Canada have seized the web domains and server infrastructure of DoubleVPN. This is a virtual private network (VPN) service which provided a safe haven for cybercriminals to attack their victims.

 

This coordinated takedown, led by the Dutch National Police (Politie), under jurisdiction of the National Public Prosecutor’s Office (Landelijk Parket), with international activity coordinated by Europol and Eurojust, has now ended the availability of this service.

 

Servers were seized across the world where DoubleVPN had hosted content, and the web domains were replaced with a law enforcement splash page. This coordinated takedown was carried out in the framework of the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT).

 

DoubleVPN was heavily advertised on both Russian and English-speaking underground cybercrime forums as a means to mask the location and identities of ransomware operators and phishing fraudsters. The service claimed to provide a high level of anonymity by offering single, double, triple and even quadruple VPN-connections to its clients.

 

DoubleVPN was being used to compromise networks all around the world. Its cheapest VPN-connection cost as little as €22 ($25).

International coordination

 

International cooperation was central to the success of this investigation as the critical infrastructure was scattered across the world.

 

Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) supported the investigation from the onset, bringing together all the involved countries to establish a joint strategy. Its cybercrime specialists organised over 30 coordination meetings and four workshops to prepare for the final phase of the takedown, alongside providing analytical and crypto-tracing support. A virtual command post was set up by Europol on the action day to ensure seamless coordination between all the authorities involved in the takedown.

Eurojust facilitated the judicial cross-border cooperation and coordination, to ensure an adequate response in order to take down the network. For this purpose, and since October last year, six dedicated coordination meetings took place, organised by Eurojust, and set up a coordination centre during the action day, during which the operation was rolled on the ground by the various national authorities involved.

A Connecticut hospital network will force women to share rooms with biological men who claim to be women. According to Hartford HealthCare, the new policy stems from a spirit of β€œcultural humility.”

 

Hartford HealthCare is a network of hospitals serving 185 towns, with 33,000 employees, including 4,000 medical staff, and an operating revenue of $4.3 billion. The network released a statement Monday describing a β€œmajor step” on its β€œjourney to cultural humility” involving β€œestablishing a policy for assigning hospital beds to transgender patients.”

 

The policy, which was two years in the making and has been in place since last fall, states that the healthcare network is committed β€œto identifying gender-affirming room assignments.”

 

According to the policy, β€œtransgender patients will be assigned to rooms based on their self-identified gender, regardless of whether this is consistent with their physical appearance, surgical history, genitalia, legal sex, sex assigned at birth or name and sex as it appears in hospital records.”

 

β€œIt’s about the level of acceptance humans have toward others’ differences,” said Gerard Lupacchino, senior vice president of β€œhuman experience” at Hartford HealthCare, adding that patient needs should not be exclusively based β€œassumptions about preferences based on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or other factors.”

 

Lupacchino said that if a private hospital room is available and needed, any patient may request one, referring to β€œtransgender” patients who want a private room due to β€œsafety concerns.”

 

It is unclear whether similar accommodation would be granted to a female patient who might not feel safe if forced to share a room with a man.

 

The press release says Hartford HealthCare is β€œevolving from cultural competence to cultural humility.”

 

β€œPart of the commitment is acknowledging that an individual’s conscious and unconscious biases can inform reactions and, therefore, the care patients receive,” the statement reads.

 

In the past, Hartford HealthCare’s hospital beds were assigned to patients according to the biological sex reflected on their birth certificates. The hospital did not have specific policy to deal with patients who β€œhave a gender identity that is not fully congruent with their assigned sex at birth.”

Prime Minister Scott Morrison's call to extend eligibility for the AstraZeneca vaccine for anybody aged over 18 prompted alarm in some quarters.

Advice from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), as the government has acknowledged, has not changed, and the AstraZeneca vaccine continues to be recommended for use by over-60s only.

 

Ms Palaszczuk said National Cabinet did not make the decision to widen the availability of AstraZeneca to under-40s.

"National Cabinet did not make that decision," she said at her COVID-19 media briefing today.

"I'd like to ask the prime minister, did his cabinet make that decision?"

She called into question whether it was wise for the prime minister to allow younger Australians to get AstraZeneca.

"We want Queenslanders to get vaccinated," she said.

Freight company cashed in on $10 million PPP loan β€” then shut down and moved to Mexico

 

An American freight company reportedly cashed in on an emergency federal loan last year, only to shut down its stateside manufacturing operations and move to Mexico a few months later.

 

FreightCar America, a major producer of freight cars for the railway industry, shuttered its last remaining U.S. production site in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, late last summer and shifted production to its facility in CastaΓ±os, Mexico. The move reportedly cost 550 American workers their jobs.

 

Yet only a few months earlier, the company had received a $10 million Paycheck Protection Program loan β€” the maximum amount available to businesses as part of a program to help American workers retain their jobs during the coronavirus pandemic, ProPublica reported.

 

The news outlet acknowledged that to some employees, the news didn't come as a shock, since they had for years heard rumors that management would relocate. But for others, the timing seemed odd.

 

At least one employee, Robert Bulman, believed the maneuver was a "setup" from the beginning.

 

"When the Mexican plant opened, we were told at the beginning they would just be helping Shoals and making parts for the trains," said Bulman, who reportedly worked at the Alabama plant for seven years before getting laid off. "But the whole time, it was a setup, we were gone."

 

Another employee, who wished to remain anonymous, told ProPublica, "I went to FreightCar to retire. I wasn't planning on leaving when I got there."

 

FreightCar America CEO Jim Meyer reportedly insisted in an email to ProPublica that at the time he received the PPP money, the company had no intention of shutting down the Alabama plant. He added that the money was put to good use in that it helped the company retain employees for most of the year even as production dropped off.

 

In its report, ProPublica did not accuse FreightCar America of any obvious wrongdoing but insinuated that the company may have "exploited loopholes and rule changes" in the pandemic relief program established last year under the CARES Act.

 

Initially, in order for the PPP loans to be forgiven, the Small Business Administration required borrowing businesses to spend 75% of the loan money on payroll for eight weeks. Later, as businesses complained that they couldn't spend PPP money quickly enough due to the stalled economy, the legislation was amended to require businesses to spend only 60% of the loan money on payroll.

 

In FreightCar America's case, the eight-week threshold was passed before layoffs kicked in, and according to ProPublica, the company likely abided by the payroll expenditure rules. Rules aside, whether the company did right by its employees may be up for debate.

Nebraska mom sentenced for sexually assaulting children during sleepovers

 

 

A Nebraska mother was sentenced to 64 to 102 years in prison Monday for sexually assaulting two of her young daughter’s friends during sleepovers at her home, a report said.

 

The sentencing of Christina Greer, 38, comes after she was found guilty in March of three counts of sexual assault for abusing two boys, ages 12 and 13, in 2018 and 2018, the Omaha World-Herald reported.

 

Greer gave the minors alcohol and marijuana-infused gummy bears during weekend sleepovers in 2017 and 2018, prosecutors have said.

 

She also told them to delete evidence from their phones and to not tell anyone about their sexual encounters, according to prosecutors.

 

Investigators found sexually explicit photos of Greer from one boy’s phone, court documents show.

Two new studies released this week have further suggested there is a link between mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and heart inflammation casesβ€”coming after federal health officials added warnings to Moderna’s and Pfizer’s shots.

 

A study from Duke University, released in JAMACardiology, looked at four cases of myocarditis, which refers to heart inflammation in the central layer of the heart wall, that occurred within five days of COVID-19 vaccination between Feb. 1 and April 30 of this year.

 

β€œAll 4 patients had received the second dose of a messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine, presented with severe chest pain, had biomarker evidence of myocardial injury, were hospitalized, and had cardiac magnetic resonance imaging findings typical of myocarditis,” said researchers, concluding that there is a possibility of an association between the health condition and the shot.

 

Federal health officials have said that the risks of developing heart inflammation are outweighed by the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine. COVID-19 is the illness caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.

 

The researchers, who noted that as of now, β€œcausality cannot be established, reported that three of the patients were men aged 23 and 36, and the fourth one was a 70-year-old woman. Two cases involved individuals who received the Pfizer shot and the other two received the Moderna shot,” they said.

 

The four patients, researchers said, reported severe acute chest pain, had abnormal electrocardiogram results, and displayed evidence of heart tissue injury.

Lori Vallow was indicted Tuesday regarding the 2019 death of her fourth husband in addition to already facing charges over the deaths of her two children.

 

Vallow, nicknamed the "Doomsday Mom," was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder for the death of Charles Vallow, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office in Arizona.

 

Lori Vallow is accused of conspiring with her brother Alex Cox to kill her husband. In July 2019, Cox allegedly called 911, telling authorities he shot and killed Charles Vallow in self-defense. Cox was never charged, and he died in December of what a medical examiner ruled as natural causes.

Vallow and her husband, Chad Daybell, were charged in May with murdering her two children, 7-year-old Joshua "JJ" Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, who were last seen alive in September 2019.

 

Human remains, later confirmed to be those of the children, were found in June 2020 buried on Daybell's property in Idaho.

 

Daybell is also facing charges of first-degree murder in Idaho over the death of his wife, Tammy Daybell, who died in October 2019 at 49. Weeks after her death, Daybell married Vallow.

 

In addition to the murder charges, Daybell is charged with insurance fraud, and Vallow is facing additional conspiracy counts in connection to Tammy Daybell's death.

 

In late May, Vallow was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial and was later ordered to be treated at a mental health facility.

James Franco Agrees to $2.2 Million Settlement in Sexual Misconduct Suit

 

James Franco has signed off on paying $2,235,000 to settle an Oct. 2019 lawsuit alleging he and his associates coerced students into performing explicit sex scenes on camera. The proposed figure was revealed in court filings that were made public on Wednesday, and a Los Angeles judge will need to approve it.

 

In 2019, Sarah Tither-Kaplan and Toni Gaal filed a class action complaint in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleging that Franco and his partners β€œengaged in widespread inappropriate and sexually charged behavior towards female students by sexualizing their power as a teacher and an employer by dangling the opportunity for roles in their projects.” They argued they were victims of fraud, paying $300 a month for an acting school opened by Franco and his business partner Vince Jolivette in 2014 at which they claimed they were intimidated and sexually objectified. They further alleged that those who were willing to disrobe in front of Franco and his friends were given special treatment.

 

Franco’s attorneys have previously denied the claims in the suit as β€œfalse and inflammatory, legally baseless and brought as a class action with the obvious goal of grabbing as much publicity as possible for attention-hungry Plaintiffs.”

 

The settlement would mean Tither-Kaplan and Gaal would drop their claims without prejudice, with other members of the class given roughly two months to opt out should they choose to further pursue their case. Any unclaimed money would be contributed to the National Women’s Center.

 

Because the lawsuit is a class action, details of the settlement that are usually hidden from public record were disclosed in the filing. Of the $2,235,000 in the agreement, $894,000 would go to the named plaintiffs, and $1,341,000 would go into a common fund for the rest of the members of the class action. Tither-Kaplan would receive $670,500, and Gaal would receive $223,500 β€” both minus attorney fees.

 

As part of the agreement, all parties to the suit would release a joint statement in which Franco could continue to deny the allegations in the complaint. It reads in full:

"Georgia Tech engineers have developed a way to use graphene nano-antennas to allow for devices powered by small amounts of scavenged energy.

 

With antennas made from conventional materials like copper, communication between low-power nanomachines would be virtually impossible. That’s because at that size, antennas normally operate at higher frequencies.

 

The communications challenge is that at the micron scale, metallic antennas would have to operate at frequencies of hundreds of terahertz*, but their range would be limited by propagation losses to just a few microns (millionths of a meter). And they’d require lots of power β€” more power than nanomachines are likely to have.

 

But by taking advantage of the unique electronic properties of graphene, the researchers found, graphene could generate an electronic β€œsurface wave” that would allow nanonetworks of antennas just one micron long and 10 to 100 nanometers wide to do the work of much larger antennas, based on their modeling and simulations.

 

β€œWe are exploiting the peculiar propagation of electrons in graphene to make a very small antenna that can radiate at much lower frequencies than classical metallic antennas of the same size,” said Ian Akyildiz, a Ken Byers Chair professor in Telecommunications in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology."

On November 5th Arizona federal officials raided a home in the Fountain Hills area in Maricopa County.

The agents confiscated eight hard drives, three computers and a bag of USB sticks.

The house belongs to 56-year-old Elliot Kerwin.

The warrant, discovered by Forbes this week, reveals investigators have been looking into a computer intrusion at an unnamed β€œvictim office,” which occurred from October 21 to November 4. At the Kerwin residence, they were looking for any evidence within the seized computers that showed they’d been used to access the IT network at the office, as well as β€œprotected voters’ information” and any indication that it had been disseminated to other people.

 

Of the 15 county recorder’s offices contacted by Forbes about the investigation, only one, Maricopa County, confirmed voter data had been stolen, noting that a federal investigation was under way. The Maricopa County Recorder’s office, which is just 30 minutes’ drive south from Kerwin’s home, did not confirm whether or not the investigation was the same as that referred to in the search warrant.

On the morning of November 5, as the 2020 election hung in the balance, Arizona federal agents raided a two-story house in Fountain Hills, Maricopa County, a county that had become a key battleground in the presidential race. The agents were looking for evidence of a cyberattack on an unnamed organization and stolen voter data. They left with eight hard drives, three computers and a bag of USB sticks. The resident of the property, a 56-year-old IT expert named Elliot Kerwin, was served the warrant. He is not yet facing charges and was unreachable for comment at the time of publication. There is no indication that anything other than voters’ information, which can be acquired for a few hundred dollars in Arizona counties, was taken from the affected office.

β€œWith this antenna, we can cut the frequency by two orders of magnitude and cut the power needs by four orders of magnitude,” said Jornet. β€œUsing this antenna, we believe the energy-harvesting techniques developed by Dr. Wang would give us enough power to create a communications link between nanomachines.”

 

β€œWe believe that this is just the beginning of a new networking and communications paradigm based on the use of graphene.”

 

The researchers are also working on graphene-based nanoscale transceivers and the transmission protocols necessary for communication between nanomachines.

 

Terabits-per-second wireless networks

 

The nanomachines in the network that the researchers envision would include several integrated components. In addition to the energy-harvesting nanogenerators, there would be nanoscale sensing, processing and memory technologies, which are under development by other groups. The nanoscale antenna and transceiver work being done at Georgia Tech would allow the devices to communicate the information they sense and process to the outside world."

β€œThe current work is mainly based on novel analytical models as well as accurate simulations. We expect to have a working prototype of the antenna within 6 months to 1 year. In parallel, we are working on the idea of an entire transceiver based on graphene. The commercialization of the technology will still have to wait at least a few years. Authorities arrest man after body parts scattered in Arizona

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) β€” Authorities in central Arizona have made an arrest in an investigation into human body parts that were found scattered in remote areas.

Walter Harold Mitchell, 59, was booked into jail in Yavapai County late Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of dumping more than two dozen body parts outside of Prescott that are believed to be connected to medical research, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff’s officials initially received calls over the weekend from a woodcutter and a hunter who found two limbs and two severed heads near Prescott, authorities said. Further searches by detectives and volunteers on foot, and using drones and dogs revealed more than two dozen body parts, including arms, legs and more heads, said sheriff’s spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn.

Authorities said the remains likely were connected to a Seattle-based business that Mitchell owned and that managed cadavers for research. According to the sheriff’s office, Mitchell left Seattle earlier this year with human remains belonging to five people.

β€œThis situation is unimaginable, and I am so sorry for the families whose loved ones were donated to research and treated in such a horrific fashion,” Sheriff Scott Mascher, who retires Friday, said in a statement.

Mitchell was arrested in Scottsdale on the outskirts of Phoenix. Authorities said evidence, including tags and white absorbent sheets, found along with the body parts tied Mitchell to the case.

Mitchell will have an initial appearance in a justice court, where he will be appointed an attorney if needed. He hasn’t formally been charged with any crimes.

It was unclear late Tuesday whether Mitchell already has legal representation. County officials either could not say Tuesday or did not respond to emails sent by The Associated Press.

INBRAIN Neuroelectronics, a spin-off Graphene Flagship partners the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) and ICREA, Spain, has received a €14.35 million Series A investment, one of the biggest rounds in the Spanish MedTech industry. The investment will allow INBRAIN to bring their novel neurotechnology to humans for the first time.

 

INBRAIN Neuroelectronics was established in 2019, at the intersection between MedTech, DeepTech and Digital Health, with a mission to decode brain signals to develop medical solutions for patients with epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders. The company designs small implantable brain intelligent systems – built around an innovative nanoscale graphene electrode – with the ability to interpret brain signals with unprecedented high fidelity, producing a therapeutic response adapted to the clinical condition of each patient.

 

 

Disruptive technology based on graphene

Existing brain interfaces are based on metals such as platinum and iridium, which impose significant restrictions in terms of miniaturisation and signal resolution, and therefore cause considerable side effects. For this reason, there is a 50% rejection rate in candidate patients. INBRAIN Neuroelectronics uses a disruptive technology based on graphene which will overcome the current limitations of metal-based neural interfaces.

 

According to a 2010 study commissioned by the European Brain Council, the cost of brain disorders in Europe alone is approximately €800 billion per year, with more than one-third of the population affected. Around 30% of patients with a neuronal disease are resistant to pharmacological treatment and do not have an effective therapy. The high incidence of brain-related diseases worldwide, and their huge social cost, call for greater investments in basic research in this field, with the aim of developing new and more efficient therapeutic and diagnostic tools.

 

In June last year, INBRAIN received a first-seed investment from a syndicate of investors led by Asabys Partners (through Sabadell-Asabys Health Innovation Investment) and Alta Life Sciences, including the Institut CatalΓ  de Finances (ICF), Finaves (IESE Business School) and BStartUp. The most recent investment was co-led by Asabys Partners and Alta Life Sciences, and joined by Vsquared Ventures, a DeepTech-focused early-stage venture capitalist based in Munich; TruVenturo GmbH, Germany’s most successful tech and life science company builders; and CDTI, at the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.

 

Cinzia Spinato, Graphene Flagship Business Developer for Biomedical Applications, said: β€œINBRAIN is leading the way in the field of graphene-based implantable brain devices, and I hope that this success will raise the interest of new stakeholders and corporates towards the opportunities graphene offers in the healthcare domain. Technological transformation

 

INBRAIN Neuroelectronics is bringing a complete technological transformation to the treatment of neurological diseases. Its brain implantable intelligent systems are based on graphene electrodes, which allow miniaturisation to nanoscale fabrication, with the potential to reach single-neuron resolution. The extraordinary properties of graphene – which is light, biocompatible, flexible and extremely conductive – are harnessed in much smaller devices that are safer to implant and can be programmed, upgraded and recharged wirelessly.

 

Driven by artificial intelligence, the implant can learn from the brain of each patient and trigger adaptive responses to deliver personalised neurological therapy. In addition, the use of big data management will permit remote monitoring of the device and data processing.

 

The technology has already been validated in in vitro and in vivo, and biocompatibility and toxicity tests have been successful. Abstract

The incoming 5G technology requires antennas with a greater capacity, wider wireless spectrum utilisation, high gain, and steer-ability. This is due to the cramped spectrum utilisation in the previous generation. As a matter of fact, conventional antennas are unable to serve the new frequency due to the limitations in fabrication and installation mainly for smaller sizes. The use of graphene material promises antennas with smaller sizes and thinner dimensions, yet capable of emitting higher frequencies. Hence, graphene antennas were studied at a frequency of 15 GHz in both single and array elements. The high-frequency antenna contributed to a large bandwidth and was excited by coplanar waveguide for easy fabrication on one surface via screen printing. The defected ground structure was applied in an array element to improve the radiation and increase the gain. The results showed that the printed, single element graphene antenna produced an impedance bandwidth, gain, and efficiency of 48.64%, 2.87 dBi, and 67.44%, respectively. Meanwhile, the array element produced slightly better efficiency (72.98%), approximately the same impedance bandwidth as the single element (48.98%), but higher gain (8.41 dBi). Moreover, it provided a beam width of 21.2Β° with scanning beam capability from 0Β° up to 39.05Β°. Thus, it was proved that graphene materials can be applied in 5G.
