It's true. The liaison between the House Committee investigating the JFK Assassination and the CIA was George Joannides. Did you think Congress would get the truth? They picked the guy that knew everything. Including and excluding documents was a breeze. No one said anything about a conflict of interest. That's a true story. That's why they think we're stupid.

Have to think, too, that these lawyers are all tied at the hip. That means the dem go to lawyers may not be able to help because they have to recuse on conflict of interest grounds.

 

IIRC, Flynn got railroaded by his first lawyer team because they tried to hide conflict of interest or legal malpractice issues by forcing Flynn to plead guilty. I think it was about fucked up FARA applications. The lawyers themselves became criminally involved and tried to save their own ass.

 

I wonder if Elias leaving Perkins-Coie has anything to do with conflict of interest stuff? Probably not, because I'd think that would pertain to the timeframe of the crime.

 

I think we're looking at situation where the dem 1st stringer lawyers are going to be benched.

Reward:

The FBI and the Tate County Sheriff's Office in Mississippi are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of William Willingham.

 

Remarks:

Willingham has ties to Memphis, Tennessee. He may travel to Arkansas and Alabama. He reportedly is a heavy drinker and uses drugs. He is known to carry a 12-inch knife.

 

Caution:

William Willingham is wanted for kidnapping and rape in Tate County, Mississippi. On December 22, 1998, Willingham is alleged to have tied up his girlfriend in her bedroom at her residence, and proceeded to the next room to rape her daughter. Willingham's girlfriend managed to free herself and went to the aid of her daughter. However, Willingham allegedly brandished a knife and forced his girlfriend back into her room. He then returned to the room of his girlfriend's daughter and allegedly continued to rape her. Willingham soon fled the residence.

 

 

On March 4, 1999, Willingham was indicted by a Tate County, Mississippi Grand Jury for statutory rape and kidnapping. A federal arrest warrant was subsequently issued after Willingham was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Republican Sen. John Thune Considering Retirement

 

Republican Sen. John Thune (SD) may retire and not run in the 2022 midterms.

 

“Obviously, the opportunities in leadership is a consideration — for sure, it’s a consideration,” Thune said. “But there are lots of other (factors) too… I’ve been doing it for 25 years. I think you gotta get into family considerations, personal considerations. And obviously it’s a place where we can make a difference, and that’s why you do it.”

 

When asked “what he’s struggling with,” Thune explained a Senate term is six years. “It’s a six-year commitment,” he said, reportedly noting “he and his wife are having conversations now about another run before making a final decision sometime in the fall.”

 

Thune’s retirement would add one more costly seat Republicans would have to defend with a limited amount resources in 2022. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) are also considering retiring while Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO), Sen. John Tillis (R-NC), Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH), and Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) have already committed to retiring.

 

Overall, according to the 2022 Senate midterm map, the GOP’s resources are spread over a total of 20 Senate races. The Democrats, meanwhile, have 14 seats up for reelection but only six of them are considered highly contested in battle ground states.

 

Even with the challenges, Senate Republican reelection chief Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) told Business Insider in August, “We’re going to take the majority back.”

As National Review notes, the 5-4 decision “came down along ideological lines, with Chief Justice John Roberts and the Court’s three liberal justices dissenting.”

 

“The applicants now before us have raised serious questions regarding the constitutionality of the Texas law at issue,” the court’s majority wrote. “But their application also presents complex and novel antecedent procedural questions on which they have not carried their burden.”

 

“In reaching this conclusion, we stress that we do not purport to resolve definitively any jurisdictional or substantive claim in the applicants’ lawsuit,” the decision said. “In particular, this order is not based on any conclusion about the constitutionality of Texas’s law, and in no way limits other procedurally proper challenges to the Texas law, including in Texas state courts.”

 

The decision forestalls an October hearing of a Mississippi case that could determine the constitutionality of the issue, which was purportedly addressed by Roe v. Wade in what is considered by several legal scholars to be a flawed and questionable decision.

Anyone ever hear of cops forming their own gangs? Apparently it is happening in LA, thousands of cops with little oversight, hundreds of precincts and neighborhoods.

This immunomodulatory effect contributes to the reduction of the onset of symptoms of the disease. The researchers also showed that the molecule reduces the risk of loss of smell. However, they observed that ivermectin treatment does not affect the viral replication of SARS-CoV-2.

 

« Surprisingly, we observed that ivermectin treatment did not limit viral replication, treated and untreated models had similar amounts of viral load in the nasal cavity and in the lungs. Our results reveal that ivermectin has an immunomodulatory and not antiviral effect," comments Guilherme Dias de Melo.

 

In an opinion of 31 March 2021, WHO advises against using ivermectin to treat Covid-19 outside of clinical trials, pending the availability of more data. Law Enforcement Agencies Are Now Buying Personal Cell Phone Data From Commercial Brokers Without Warrants

 

A meaningful debate is starting to brew about law enforcement’s use of commercially available cell phone data for purposes of criminal investigations across the country.

 

The data, called open-source intelligence by those who advocate for it, used to only be prepared and sold by brokers, generally to marketers and advertisers.

 

Information is sent daily from “phones, cars and other connected devices” to commercial brokers, The Wall Street Journal wrote this week. That data is then widely used in “finance, real-estate planning and advertising”.

 

But recently, these brokers have created products specifically for law enforcement. The products have “increasingly been used to screen airline passengers, find and track criminal suspects, and enforce immigration and counterterrorism laws,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

It seems like the WSJ's entire San Francisco bureau has been preoccupied lately with churning out a series of stories sourced from "leaked" internal Facebook documents exposing embarrassing internal reports on everything from Instagram's deleterious impact on the mental health of its twentysomething and teenage users to political divisiveness to - today's entry - how Facebook's products are abused to facilitated human trafficking and terror recruitment in parts of the emerging world.

 

The gist of the piece is this: Facebook has a small staff dedicated to combating human trafficking around the world, particularly in countries where the rule of law isn't as robust as it is in the US and Europe. In the Middle East, Facebook is used to lure women into sex slavery (or some other form of exploitative labor).

 

In Ethiopia, armed groups use the site to recruit and to incite violence against other ethnic minorities.

 

Facebook's monitors have also sent reports to their bosses on everything from human organ trafficking, pornography and child pornography, and government's cracking down on political dissent.

Federal Reserve Chair orders ethics review of central bank

 

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell directed staff to the central bank's ethics rules following recent reports that two of the system's regional bank presidents had been active investors during 2020

 

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell ordered staff to review ethics guidelines governing the financial dealings by top central bank officials.

 

News of Powell’s inquiry broke after Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., sent 12 letters to the Fed’s regional banks demanding stricter ethics guidelines be implemented by the Fed’s top officials.

 

The Massachusetts Democrat called on each president to ban the ownership and trading of personal stocks by top officials at each regional bank office.

 

Powell requested the ethics review late last week, a spokesperson said in a statement, following reports that two regional presidents actively invested during 2020.

 

A Fed spokesperson told CNBC that Powell ordered the review “because the trust of the American people is essential for the Federal Reserve to effectively carry out our important mission.”

 

According to documents released last week, Fed Presidents Robert Kaplan and Eric Rosengren both bought or sold private stocks in excess of $1 million dollars. Other Fed presidents reported little to no trading activity.

 

Amid the public backlash and scrutiny from Congress, both Kaplan and Rosengren said they would sell any individual stock holdings by the end of the month.

 

Current Fed regulations forbid the trading of individual stocks by senior officials around the time of policy meetings due to the sharing of information that could have significant influence on the nation’s economy.

 

Powell emphasized that although it is not illegal for regional presidents to buy or sell stocks, the Fed’s internal rules require officials to avoid even the appearance of conflict or of using their position for personal gain.

 

It is not yet clear how long the ethics review will take.

According to a new book released by the Watergate reporters, former president Donald Trump pointed out that his son-in-law and former top advisor Jared Kushner acted in a way that led Trump to believe that Kushner was “more loyal to Israel than the United States.”

 

“You know, Jared’s more loyal to Israel than to the United States,” Trump reportedly joked according to the new book, “Peril.” The already-strained relationship between Trump and Kushner deteriorated rapidly following the 2020 presidential election.

 

National File reported in July of 2020 on reports of sources inside the White House stating that Trump wants “no more of Jared’s woke sh*t,” after several weeks of abysmal polling for the administration that indicated an uphill battle in the 2020 election, and no net increase in black voters. And they all f**king hate me, and none of them are going to vote for me.” Kushner’s push to appease violent Black Lives Matter rioters in the wake of the George Floyd death in Minnesota, coupled with his bungling of Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign, reportedly led Trump to avoid Kushner and complain about him in private during the summer of 2020.

 

Kushner also reportedly played a key role in keeping Trump from joining the free speech social media platform Gab, because the website did not meet the son-in-law’s demands to censor speech critical of Israel:

 

Gab CEO and founder Andrew Torba explained that President Trump is being blocked from joining the vibrant platform by his advisors. [President Trump] is and always has been a mirror archive of POTUS’ tweets and statements that we’ve run for years,” wrote Torba. “We’ve always been transparent about this and would obviously let people know if the President starts using it.”

 

Elaborating on why President Trump is not using Gab, Torba added, “The only reason he’s not using it right now to contact his base is because dopey advisers like Jared Kushner, who lost him the election, are blocking him from using it.”

Rising sharply out of the Atlantic around 100 kilometres to the west of southern Morocco, the Canary Islands are home to Spain's most active and best known volcanoes, including Teide in Tenerife and Timanfaya in Lanzarote.

But not all UV light is the same. Longer UV waves, called UVA, don't have quite enough energy to cause problems. It's the mid-range UVB waves in sunlight that are primarily responsible for killing microbes and putting our own cells at risk of Sun damage.

Short-wave UVC radiation has been shown to be effective against viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, even while it's still safely enveloped in human fluids.

But this type of UV doesn't usually come into contact with Earth's surface, thanks to the ozone layer.

"UVC is great for hospitals," said co-author and Oregon State University toxicologist Julie McMurry. "But in other environments – for instance, kitchens or subways – UVC would interact with the particulates to produce harmful ozone."

In July 2020, an experimental study tested the effects of UV light on SARS-CoV-2 in simulated saliva. They recorded the virus was inactivated when exposed to simulated sunlight for between 10-20 minutes.

"Natural sunlight may be effective as a disinfectant for contaminated nonporous materials," Wood and colleagues concluded in the paper.

Luzzatto-Feigiz and team compared those results with a theory about how sunlight achieved this, which was published just a month later, and saw the math didn't add up.

This study found the SARS-CoV-2 virus was three times more sensitive to the UV in sunlight than influenza A, with 90 percent of the coronavirus's particles being inactivated after just half an hour of exposure to midday sunlight in summer.

By comparison, in winter light infectious particles could remain intact for days.

Environmental calculations made by a separate team of researchers concluded the virus's RNA molecules are being photochemically damaged directly by light rays.

This is more powerfully achieved by shorter wavelengths of light, like UVC and UVB. As UVC doesn't reach Earth's surface, they based their environmental light exposure calculations on the medium-wave UVB part of the UV spectrum.

"The experimentally observed inactivation in simulated saliva is over eight times faster than would have been expected from the theory," wrote Luzzatto-Feigiz and colleagues.

"So, scientists don't yet know what's going on," Luzzatto-Fegiz said.

The researchers suspect it's possible that instead of affecting the RNA directly, long-wave UVA may be interacting with molecules in the testing medium (simulated saliva) in a way that hastens the inactivation of the virus.

Something similar is seen in wastewater treatment – where UVA reacts with other substances to create molecules that damage viruses.

If UVA can be harnessed to combat SARS-CoV-2, cheap and energy-efficient wavelength-specific light sources might be useful in augmenting air filtration systems at relatively low risk for human health.

"Our analysis points to the need for additional experiments to separately test the effects of specific light wavelengths and medium composition," Luzzatto-Fegiz concludes.

With the ability of this virus to remain suspended in the air for extended periods of time, the safest means to avoid it in countries where it's running rampant is still social distancing and wearing masks where distancing isn't possible. But it's nice to know that sunlight may be helping us out during the warmer months.

Their analysis was published in The Journal of Infectious Diseases.

Prince Andrew suffers setback in sex assault case as judge refuses to unseal document

 

The Duke of York has suffered an early setback in his US sex assault case after a judge refused to unseal a document that could invalidate the damages claim.

 

Prince Andrew, 61, is said to be pinning his hopes on the settlement – signed by his long time accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre in 2009 – which allegedly prevents her from suing.

 

It came as Ms Giuffre’s lawyer, David Boies, warned him to accept the lawsuit, saying: “Service is not intended to be a game of hide and seek behind palace walls.”

 

The Duke’s US lawyer, Andrew Brettler, told a pre-trial hearing on Monday that he believed the agreement Ms Giuffe made with Jeffrey Epstein released the Duke and others from “any and all potential liability”.

 

The decision to keep it under wraps means the Duke will now have to engage with his own court process in order to request a copy. That would mean accepting that he has been served the lawsuit and then being exposed to a potentially damaging discovery process.

 

Alan Dershowitz, a former lawyer for sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, had asked a judge to give the Duke’s lawyers a copy of the confidential settlement, believing it will allow them to get the case dropped.

 

Ms Giuffre had accused Mr Dershowitz of sexual assault in 2019. But she reportedly dropped the claim last month as a direct result of the agreement, which she made with Epstein.

 

"The same reasons for dismissing the case against me seem to apply to Prince Andrew," Mr Dershowitz said. "These documents should get the charges against Prince Andrew thrown out."

 

He urged the judge in his own case, Loretta Preska, to unseal the document, warning he was “compelled not to sit back silently” knowing its contents.

 

“The issue before the court is a matter of professional ethics and the interests of justice,” he said.

 

However, Judge Preska was cutting in her response, stating there was “no basis” for him to obtain the document for a party in a different case.

 

“To the court’s knowledge, Mr Dershowitz has not been commissioned as a roving ethics monitor,” she said.

 

The judge noted that Prince Andrew may have “valid reasons” for trying to obtain the agreement but that he could do so through the discovery process in his own case.

 

Meanwhile, the Duke’s legal team has sought to further delay the court process by challenging the High Court’s agreement to serve him with the claim.

 

In a move that risks exasperating New York federal judge Lewis Kaplan, his solicitor Gary Bloxsome claimed on Thursday that due process had still not been followed.

 

The High Court was forced to intervene in the ongoing litigation when Prince Andrew refused to accept that the lawsuit, sent by courier to his Windsor home, posted to his lawyer’s office and sent by email, had not been properly served.

 

Mr Bloxsome said in order to comply with the Hague convention, a British court official had to deliver the paperwork.

 

After representation from Ms Giuffre’s legal team, the court accepted the request for service. However, Mr Bloxsome said the request had to be made by Judge Kaplan.

 

Ms Giuffre claims she was forced to have sex with the Duke three times when she was 17. The Duke denies all the claims and says he has “no recollection” of meeting her.

Background: Emerging viruses like severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) and Nipah virus (NiV) have been identified to pose a potential threat to transfusion safety.
