Opponents say such depictions promote racist stereotypes, while supporters defend the helper of Sinterklaas, the white-bearded, red-robed Dutch version of St. Nicholas, as a traditional children's character.

 

Though the two sides faced off along the route of parades in a number of towns, there were no reports of serious violence. Police presence was high in towns where demonstrations were organized.

 

The nationally televised arrival parade happened amid tight security, in the central city of Apeldoorn. Thousands of children and their parents cheered as an actor playing Sinterklaas arrived. His helpers handed out candy and high fives.

 

For the first time, there were no Petes in full blackface at the official arrival. Organizers instead put smears on their faces to represent soot from chimneys they climb down to deliver gifts to children. The โ€œsootโ€ ranged from light to dark dustings.

 

Dutch media reported that the leader of the Netherlandsโ€™ arm of anti-immigrant movement PEGIDA โ€” wearing a Pete costume and blackface makeup โ€” was detained by police in Apeldoorn.

 

Police said in a tweet that a number of people were peacefully detained for refusing to go to locations set aside for demonstrators.

 

Hundreds of anti-Black Pete protesters gathered in a park in The Hague, where blackface Petes formed part of the official parade, for a peaceful demonstration.

 

A row of three umbrellas carrying the messages โ€œBlack Lives Matter,โ€ โ€œBlack Pete is Racismโ€ and โ€œStop Black Faceโ€ was laid out on the grass by demonstrators.

 

Mariam El Maslouhi told the crowd she hoped it wouldnโ€™t be necessary to protest in the city again next year.

 

โ€œThe Netherlands has heard us, The Hague has heard us, Parliament has heard us,โ€ she said.

 

Some Dutch cities, including the capital, Amsterdam, have stopped using blackface makeup in their Sinterklaas parades.

Overnight in The Hague, supporters of the traditional version of the character put up hundreds of posters that superimposed the face of the leader of anti-Pete activists on a blackface depiction of Pete.

 

Last week, a group of protesters vandalized cars and threw fireworks at the venue of a meeting of anti-Pete activists in The Hague. On Thursday and Friday police detained three people for making online threats to the festivities in Apeldoorn.

Former Louisiana Cop and K-9 Officer Sentenced to 20 Years for Sexually Abusing His Dog and Possession of Child Porn

 

A judge in Louisiana this week sentenced a former police officer to spend up to 20 years behind bars for possessing child pornography and sexually abusing his dog, Shreveport ABC affiliate KTBS-TV reported. District Judge Michael Craig handed down the sentence to ex-Bossier City cop Terry Yetman, 40, who in August pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography and five counts of sexual abuse of an animal.

The sentence reportedly includes four years each for the five counts of sexual abuse of animals and 20 years for the lone count of possession of child pornography. The two sentences will run concurrent with each other for a total of 20 years. Judge Craig also ordered Yetman to register as a sex offender. He was facing a maximum sentence of 45 years in prison.

Yetman, who began working on the force in November 2014 and who reportedly worked a stint in the K-9 unit, was arrested in December 2018 after a multi-month investigation that reportedly began with investigators looking into another Bossier City deputy suspected of obtaining and distributing child pornography. In the course of that investigation, investigators reportedly discovered online conversations between the original target and Yetman in which Yetman said he โ€œwould like to have sex with children, both boys and girls,โ€ according to court documents obtained by KTBS.

Yetman reportedly asked the original target for a pair of used underwear that belonged to the targetโ€™s 7-year-old daughter. The target provided the underwear to Yetman who reportedly took them to the homes of other child sex predators.

 

โ€œA forensic examination of videos and images of Yetmanโ€™s Apple iCloud account also showed him engaging in explicit sexual acts with his dog and images of pubescent and prepubescent children engaged in sexual activity,โ€ KTBS reported.

Upon Yetmanโ€™s arrest, state law enforcement authorities took custody of his dog, which was eventually placed at a rescue shelter in Texas.

Yetman was initially charged with 20 counts of sexual abuse of an animal by filming, distribution and/or possession of pornographic images and twenty counts of sexual abuse of an animal by engaging in sexual contact, per the Shreveport Times. Many of those charges were dismissed after his attorney reached a plea deal with prosecutors.

โ€œThe Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit who was assisted by the Bossier City Marshalโ€™s Office and Department of Homeland Security did an outstanding job on this case. They delivered a very strong case to our office and Assistant District Attorney, Allie Aiello Stahl, did an excellent job prosecuting this case,โ€ District Attorney Schuyler Marvin said. โ€œMy office will do everything in our power to prosecute those who prey on children and animals.โ€

Reminds anon of a spoopy incident back in the 90's. I was on a flight outbound to Europe, we had taken off from the East coast USA. After about 20 minutes in the air, the cabin crew started coming through and asking everyone on the right side of the plane to lower their window shades.

 

Some bogus reason given that made no sense, and they were quick about it too. Had everyone's window shades down in about a minute, only on the right side. What were we not supposed to see? After about 20 more minutes we were allowed to raise them.

There is mall on the SW side of Chicago called Ford City. It's built on an old Ford Plant. Wonder what's under that thing.

 

Construction started in 1942 to build a defense plant. Approximately 17,000 workers were employed. This caused the southwest side of the city to become more populated as more people were moving there for work. By October, Building No. 1 was finished. Testing of aircraft engines to be used for the B-29 bomber began. By the spring of 1943, 10 buildings, made of steel, concrete and wood, had been constructed. The building covered approximately 6,000,000 square feet (560,000 m2). The largest building was Building No. 4. It covered 62 acres (250,000 m2), and it was built out of reinforced concrete. The plant contained 7,000 miles (11,000 km) of underground piping and 15 miles (24 km) of cables and wires for water and power.

 

By December 1945, the plant was left vacant due to the end of World War II. The government attempted to sell it without success. It was later retrofitted for automobile production for Tucker Corporation and then Ford Motor Company.

 

The building remained a white elephant until the Korean War, when it was reopened to build airplane engines for the war effort, under contract from Ford Motor Company. The Ford company modernized everything inside the building, employing nearly 12,000 people. The building closed again in 1959.

 

In 1961, the government sold it to Harry F Chaddick, who along with other investors planned to develop a shopping center. Some buildings were torn down to make room for parking lots. The buildings that remained were remodeled to attract retail tenants.

The real significance of the treaty is that it admits of a tacit stalemate between the nations which negotiated it, a stalemate which recognizes the blunt, unavoidable fact that none would emerge from the total destruction which would be the lot of all in a nuclear war, a stalemate which affords us and the United Nations a breathing space in which to act.

 

Here is our opportunity and our challenge. If the nuclear powers are prepared to declare a truce, let us seize the moment to strengthen the institutions and procedures which will serve as the means for the pacific settlement of disputes among men. Conflicts between nations will continue to arise. The real issue is whether they are to be resolved by force, or by resort to peaceful methods and procedures, administered by impartial institutions. This very Organization itself is the greatest such institution, and it is in a more powerful United Nations that we seek, and it is here that we shall find, the assurance of a peaceful future.

 

Were a real and effective disarmament achieved and the funds now spent in the arms race devoted to the amelioration of man's state; were we to concentrate only on the peaceful uses of nuclear knowledge, how vastly and in how short a time might we change the conditions of mankind. This should be our goal.

 

When we talk of the equality of man, we find, also, a challenge and an opportunity; a challenge to breathe new life into the ideals enshrined in the Charter, an opportunity to bring men closer to freedom and true equality. and thus, closer to a love of peace.

The United Nations has done much, both directly and indirectly to speed the disappearance of discrimination and oppression from the earth. Without the opportunity to focus world opinion on Africa and Asia which this Organization provides, the goal, for many, might still lie ahead, and the struggle would have taken far longer. But I also know that unless peaceful solutions are devised, counsels of moderation and temperance will avail for naught; and another blow will have been dealt to this Organization which will hamper and weaken still further its usefulness in the struggle to ensure the victory of peace and liberty over the forces of strife and oppression. Here, then, is the opportunity presented to us. We must act while we can, while the occasion exists to exert those legitimate pressures available to us, lest time run out and resort be had to less happy means.

 

Does this Organization today possess the authority and the will to act? And if it does not, are we prepared to clothe it with the power to create and enforce the rule of law? Or is the Charter a mere collection of words, without content and substance, because the essential spirit is lacking? The time in which to ponder these questions is all too short. The pages of history are full of instances in which the unwanted and the shunned nonetheless occurred because men waited to act until too late. We can brook no such delay.

 

If we are to survive, this Organization must survive. To survive, it must be strengthened. Its executive must be vested with great authority. The means for the enforcement of its decisions must be fortified, and, if they do not exist, they must be devised. Procedures must be established to protect the small and the weak when threatened by the strong and the mighty. All nations which fulfill the conditions of membership must be admitted and allowed to sit in this assemblage.

Equality of representation must be assured in each of its organs. When I spoke at Geneva in 1936, there was no precedent for a head of state addressing the League of Nations. I am neither the first, nor will I be the last head of state to address the United Nations, but only I have addressed both the League and this Organization in this capacity.

 

The problems which confront us today are, equally, unprecedented. They have no counterparts in human experience. Men search the pages of history for solutions, for precedents, but there are none.

 

This, then, is the ultimate challenge. Where are we to look for our survival, for the answers to the questions which have never before been posed?

 

We must look, first, to Almighty God, Who has raised man above the animals and endowed him with intelligence and reason. We must put our faith in Him, that He will not desert us or permit us to destroy humanity which He created in His image.

 

And we must look into ourselves, into the depth of our souls. We must become something we have never been and for which our education and experience and environment have ill-prepared us. We must become bigger than we have been: more courageous, greater in spirit, larger in outlook. We must become members of a new race, overcoming petty prejudice, owing our ultimate allegiance not to nations but to our fellow men within the human community.

Eighteen months ago, TAC publisher Ron Unz discovered an astonishing account of the role the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, John McCain, had played in suppressing information about what happened to American soldiers missing in action in Vietnam. Below, we present in full Sydney Schanbergโ€™s explosive story.

John McCain, who has risen to political prominence on his image as a Vietnam POW war hero, has, inexplicably, worked very hard to hide from the public stunning information about American prisoners in Vietnam who, unlike him, didnโ€™t return home. Throughout his Senate career, McCain has quietly sponsored and pushed into federal law a set of prohibitions that keep the most revealing information about these men buried as classified documents. Thus the war hero who people would logically imagine as a determined crusader for the interests of POWs and their families became instead the strange champion of hiding the evidence and closing the books.

Almost as striking is the manner in which the mainstream press has shied from reporting the POW story and McCainโ€™s role in it, even as the Republican Party has made McCainโ€™s military service the focus of his presidential campaign. Reporters who had covered the Vietnam War turned their heads and walked in other directions. McCain doesnโ€™t talk about the missing men, and the press never asks him about them.

The sum of the secrets McCain has sought to hide is not small. There exists a telling mass of official documents, radio intercepts, witness depositions, satellite photos of rescue symbols that pilots were trained to use, electronic messages from the ground containing the individual code numbers given to airmen, a rescue mission by a special forces unit that was aborted twice by Washingtonโ€”and even sworn testimony by two Defense secretaries that โ€œmen were left behind.โ€ This imposing body of evidence suggests that a large numberโ€”the documents indicate probably hundredsโ€”of the U.S. prisoners held by Vietnam were not returned when the peace treaty was signed in January 1973 and Hanoi released 591 men, among them Navy combat pilot John S. McCain.

Mass of Evidence

The Pentagon had been withholding significant information from POW families for years. Whatโ€™s more, the Pentagonโ€™s POW/MIA operation had been publicly shamed by internal whistleblowers and POW families for holding back documents as part of a policy of โ€œdebunkingโ€ POW intelligence even when the information was obviously credible.

The pressure from the families and Vietnam veterans finally forced the creation, in late 1991, of a Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs. The chairman was John Kerry. McCain, as a former POW, was its most pivotal member. In the end, the committee became part of the debunking machine.One of the sharpest critics of the Pentagonโ€™s performance was an insider, Air Force Lt. Gen. Eugene Tighe, who headed the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) during the 1970s. He openly challenged the Pentagonโ€™s position that no live prisoners existed, saying that the evidence proved otherwise. McCain was a bitter opponent of Tighe, who was eventually pushed into retirement. Included in the evidence that McCain and his government allies suppressed or sought to discredit is a transcript of a senior North Vietnamese generalโ€™s briefing of the Hanoi politburo, discovered in Soviet archives by an American scholar in 1993. The briefing took place only four months before the 1973 peace accords. The general, Tran Van Quang, told the politburo members that Hanoi was holding 1,205 American prisoners but would keep many of them at warโ€™s end as leverage to ensure getting war reparations from Washington.

Throughout the Paris negotiations, the North Vietnamese tied the prisoner issue tightly to the issue of reparations. They were adamant in refusing to deal with them separately. Finally, in a Feb. 2, 1973 formal letter to Hanoiโ€™s premier, Pham Van Dong, Nixon pledged $3.25 billion in โ€œpostwar reconstructionโ€ aid โ€œwithout any political conditions.โ€ But he also attached to the letter a codicil that said the aid would be implemented by each party โ€œin accordance with its own constitutional provisions.โ€ That meant Congress would have to approve the appropriation, and Nixon and Kissinger knew well that Congress was in no mood to do so. The North Vietnamese, whether or not they immediately understood the double-talk in the letter, remained skeptical about the reparations promise being honoredโ€”and it never was. Hanoi thus appears to have held back prisonersโ€”โ€ฆ

Hanoi thus appears to have held back prisonersโ€”just as it had done when the French were defeated at Dien Bien Phu in 1954 and withdrew their forces from Vietnam. In that case, France paid ransoms for prisoners and brought them home.

In a private briefing in 1992, high-level CIA officials told me that as the years passed and the ransom never came, it became more and more difficult for either government to admit that it knew from the start about the unacknowledged prisoners. Those prisoners had not only become useless as bargaining chips but also posed a risk to Hanoiโ€™s desire to be accepted into the international community. The CIA officials said their intelligence indicated strongly that the remaining menโ€”those who had not died from illness or hard labor or tortureโ€”were eventually executed.

My own research, detailed below, has convinced me that it is not likely that more than a fewโ€”if anyโ€”are alive in captivity today. (That CIA briefing at the Agencyโ€™s Langley, Virginia, headquarters was conducted โ€œoff the record,โ€ but because the evidence from my own reporting since then has brought me to the same conclusion, I felt there was no longer any point in not writing about the meeting.)

For many reasons, including the absence of a political constituency for the missing men other than their families and some veteransโ€™ groups, very few Americans are aware of the POW story and of McCainโ€™s role in keeping it out of public view and denying the existence of abandoned POWs. That is because McCain has hardly been alone in his campaign to hide the scandal.

The Arizona senator, now the Republican candidate for president, has actually been following the lead of every White House since Richard Nixonโ€™s, and thus of every CIA director, Pentagon chief, and national security adviser, not to mention Dick Cheney, who was George H.W. Bushโ€™s Defense secretary. Their biggest accomplice has been an indolent press, particularly in Washington.

McCainโ€™s Role

An early and critical McCain secrecy move involved 1990 legislation that started in the House of Representatives. A brief and simple document, it was called โ€œthe Truth Billโ€ and would have compelled complete transparency about prisoners and missing men. Its core sentence reads: โ€œ[The] head of each department or agency which holds or receives any records and information, including live-sighting reports, which have been correlated or possibly correlated to United States personnel listed as prisoner of war or missing in action from World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam conflict, shall make available to the public all such records held or received by that department or agency.โ€

Bitterly opposed by the Pentagon (and thus McCain), the bill went nowhere. Reintroduced the following year, it again disappeared. But a few months later, a new measure, known as โ€œthe McCain Bill,โ€suddenly appeared. By creating a bureaucratic maze from which only a fraction of the documents could emergeโ€”only records that revealed no POW secretsโ€”it turned the Truth Bill on its head. The McCain bill became law in 1991 and remains so today. So crushing to transparency are its provisions that it actually spells out for the Pentagon and other agencies several rationales, scenarios, and justifications for not releasing any information at allโ€”even about prisoners discovered alive in captivity. Later that year, the Senate Select Committee was created, where Kerry and McCain ultimately worked together to bury evidence.

ACCS makes further arrest in US $50 million corruption case

The Anti-Corruption Commission of Seychelles made a further arrest yesterday, Friday November 26, 2021, as part of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of US $50 million provided to the government of Seychelles by the government in Abu Dhabi in 2002.

If history has told me the purpose of/how this movie works, then yeah, I wouldn't expect the outcome we want, especially not with that judge, and being offered the promotion by Joe Biden that she (I guess) is. The New Brunswick Labor Board has ruled that employers mandating the jab violates Canadian Law. An employer asking a worker for their vaccination status is a violation of the nation's privacy laws and sending a worker home on leave without pay, the board ruled, is effectively firing them. Therefore, the government's mandate goes against Canada's labor law, prompting the board to issue a Cease and Desist Order.

 

While the ruling was on a provincial level, and specifically concerning public sector workers, it sets president and indicates the direction the nation's Labor Boards will rule when a worker files a claim against their employer.

People that might be coerced into getting the suicide-shot need to hear that if their boss does let them go, the Labor Board will rule in their favor. They can get a HUGE PAYOUT for wrongful termination, especially considering their employer is violating Canada's privacy laws. When they learn this, they'll be more likely to give their boss the double finger, than they are to get the jab.
