Similar rumors about Ukrainian financial donations to the Clinton Foundation have gained traction on Twitter. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., promoted an iteration of the claim during a Feb. 19 rally in Texas, according to PolitiFact.

 

โ€œFact: Ukraine was the single largest donor to the Clinton Foundation,โ€ reads a Feb. 24 tweet that generated more than 100 likes. As evidence, some users cited a graph purportedly showing the foundation's top foreign donors.

But the posts misrepresent a chart from 2015, which ranks individual contributions to the foundation based on nationality. As FactCheck.org reported in 2019, the Clinton Foundation hasn't received donations from the Ukrainian government.

 

USA TODAY reached out to the social media users who shared the claim for comment.

 

Posts misuse report on individual donations

The Wall Street Journal published a report in 2015 on individual donations over $50,000 made to the Clinton Foundation between 1999 and 2014. The article included a chart listing the top foreign donors.

 

Ukraine tops the list, but the graph doesn't support the claim in the social media posts.

 

That's because the graph doesn't reflect donations from governments, as the posts assert. The Journal's analysis looked at individual contributions and ranked them โ€œby nationality of donor.โ€

 

Ukrainians contributed $10 million to the Clinton Foundation โ€“ more than any other nationality, according to the report. Most of that money came from Ukrainian businessman and philanthropist Victor Pinchuk.

 

Pinchukโ€™s foundation, based in Kyiv, donated $8.6 million to the foundation between 2009 and 2013, the Journal reported. He and his wife started contributing to Clinton charities in 2006.

The article notes that Pinchuk has close government ties, as he served as a member of the Ukrainian Parliament from 1998-2006 and is the son-in-law of former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma. Pinchuk's contributions โ€“ both to the Clinton Foundation and the Trump Foundation โ€“ have come under scrutiny and faced criticism, but they didn't stem from the Ukrainian government.

 

Pinchuk also wasnโ€™t the largest donor to the Clintons' charity between 1999-2014.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called the West an โ€œempire of lies,โ€ responding to a new wave of sanctions that hit the country over its special military operation in neighboring Ukraine.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov has fired defense chief Stefan Yanev over his word choices in describing the Russia-Ukraine conflict, calling the situation a โ€œmilitary interventionโ€ or an โ€œoperationโ€ rather than a โ€œwar.โ€

 

โ€œMy defense minister cannot use the word operation instead of the word war,โ€ Petkov told reporters on Monday. โ€œYou cannot call it an operation when thousands of soldiers from the one and the other side are already killed.โ€

 

The prime minister added that โ€œthe Bulgarian interest is not in bending our heads down.โ€ Rather, โ€œWhen we see something we do not agree with, something so obvious, we cannot keep quiet.โ€

 

All four parties in Bulgariaโ€™s ruling coalition agreed to call for Yanevโ€™s resignation, Petkov noted. A new defense minister โ€“ reportedly Todor Tagarev, who held the position in 2013 โ€“ will be appointed in an extraordinary session of Parliament that will be held on Tuesday.

 

The firing came in reaction to a Facebook post by Yanev. Commenting on the Russia-Ukraine crisis, the defense minister warned against using the word โ€œwar.โ€ He said there was no need for Bulgaria to side with Russia, the US, or European allies in the conflict, adding, โ€œOur suffering motherland does not deserve to be sacrificed in the game of the great powers.โ€

Bulgaria was for long a close ally of Russia and was a Soviet satellite as a member of the Warsaw Pact during the Cold War. However, the country joined NATO in 2004 and became part of the European Union in 2007. Petkov has said that standing in solidarity with Western allies is the best way to ensure Bulgariaโ€™s security.

 

Moscow last week closed its airspace to flights from Bulgaria, after the Balkan country blocked Russian air carriers from its territory in response to the attack on Ukraine.

Russia is defending itself from a โ€œregimeโ€ which โ€œaspires to gain access to nuclear weapons,โ€ the UN envoy added, noting the statement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to that effect at the Munich Security Conference on February 18.

 

Rather than violating the underlying principles of the UN, as critics have accused Russia of doing, Nebenzia argued the military operation is actually ensuring the key principle is upheld โ€“ to prevent another world war.

 

NATOโ€™s placement of military assets in Ukraine would have forced Russia to take measures that would have put Moscow and the alliance โ€œon the brink of conflict,โ€ he said.

 

Ukraine and its Western backers have accused Russia of unprovoked aggression and dismissed accusations of genocide and atrocities in the two breakaway regions of Donetsk and Lugansk.

 

โ€œEveryone knows that Russia and Russia alone started this invasion,โ€ said Kievโ€™s ambassador to the UN Sergiy Kyslytsya.

 

The UN General Assembly is meeting at the request of the US, which last week submitted a joint resolution with Albania to condemn Russia at the UN Security Council, where it was vetoed by Moscow.

I've said it so many times before & it still rings trueโ€ฆThey waited too long to do the Alien thing. Although I do agree that this is "the crime of the century" or "in our history" but remember we elected DJT to drain the swamp over 5 years ago. We knew of these types of crimes. Facebook, Twitter Remove Alleged Russian โ€˜Covert Influence Operationsโ€™

 

Social media platforms Facebook and Twitter have reportedly removed two anti-Ukrainian โ€œcovert influence operationsโ€ from their platforms. One group appears to be based in Russia and a second in Belarus, according to the Silicon Valley Masters of the Universe.

 

NBC News reports that Facebook and Twitter have removed what they refer to as anti-Ukrainian โ€œcovert influence operations.โ€ One operation was linked to Russia and another appeared to have connections to Belarus according to the social media giants.

 

One of the alleged disinformation operations was a propaganda campaign featuring a website promoting anti-Ukraine information. This was reportedly linked to a known Russian disinformation operation. A Facebook spokesperson explained that the disinformation operations used AI-generated faces linked to fake columnists and news articles in an effort to add credibility to the campaign.

 

The other disinformation operation allegedly used hacked legitimate accounts to push anti-Ukrainian propaganda and had links to a known Belarusian hacking group. The networks were removed by both Facebook and Twitter.

 

Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebookโ€™s head of security policy, said that the larger of the two campaigns operated from Russia as well as the Donbas and Crimea regions of Ukraine. The group is reportedly tied to the websites News Front and South Front which the U.S. government previously designated as part of broad disinformation efforts by Russia.

 

Gleicher noted that the propaganda campaign aimed to โ€œseed stories across the internet that Ukraine isnโ€™t doing wellโ€ by โ€œpretending to be journalists based in Kyiv.โ€ Gleicher added: โ€œThe good news is that neither of these campaigns have been that effective, but we do see these actors trying to target Ukraine at this point.โ€

 

He went on to say: โ€œThese actors are trying to undermine trust in the Ukrainian government, suggest that itโ€™s a failed state, suggest that the war is going very poorly in Ukraine or trying to praise Russia.โ€

 

In 2020, Facebook removed the profiles of News Front and South Front from its platform. The websites featured articles such as โ€œZelensky is building a neo-Nazi dictatorship in Ukraineโ€ and โ€œWhy Ukraine will only get worse.โ€

 

Facebook claims to have taken down 40 profiles linked to disinformation campaigns, saying that they were part of a larger persona-building operation across Twitter, Instagram, Telegram, and Russian social media networks.

 

Twitter claims to have banned over a dozen accounts linked to the News Front and South Front operations. A Twitter spokesperson said in a statement: โ€œOn Feb. 27, we permanently suspended more than a dozen accounts and blocked sharing of several links in violation of our platform manipulation and spam policy. Our investigation is ongoing; however, our initial findings indicate that the accounts and links originated in Russia and were attempting to disrupt the public conversation around the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.โ€

 

Misinformation has been a large part of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and many are falling victim to internet hoaxes and memes. Breitbart News recently reported that Rep. Adam Kinzinger fell for a popular prank which framed internet comedian Sam Hyde as the pilot referred to as the โ€œGhost of Kyiv.โ€ Breitbart News wrote:

It all depends on the platform, the weapon, the shooter's limitations and the actual situation.

If the shooter is in the kneeling, the support leg is up, knee over the foot (uses calf muscle), other leg (dominant) knee is on the ground, heel under the butt (barely). This allows for rapid ascension and movement. The elbow (support arm) draped in front of the kneecap. Elbow on the knee can 'jolt' off of the top of the leg if not secure and doesn't feel good. The body naturally hunches, which makes it more comfortable, and tightens the body position. I refer to it as the pyramid because the strongest part of the pyramid is the base.

The standing position depends on the abilities/limits of the shooter, location, situation etc.

Arms tight inside, a forward grip could aid in positioning so one wouldn't have to go strraight arm or cup the mag well (which I prefer), buttstock up higher so the cheek has a natural location to set and not bend the neck (can be uncomfortable). Support arm, regardless where it is, pulls to the rear to lock the stock into the cup in the shoulder. Tighter the pull, less recoil felt.

Body position is dictated by situation, however, movement must be assumed and anticipated (you would have to move at some point). This means your position should be one that you can naturally move from and not have to adjust, them move. Half step movements with deliberate rolls of the feet to avoid the 'bounce' and muzzle slightly dropped for quick target acquisition.

Tuesdayโ€™s mission, The Owlโ€™s Night Continues, is a follow-on to the December 2020 launch named The Owlโ€™s Night Begins, which was also flown for Synspective. The flight lifted off as scheduled at 09:37 local time (20:37 UTC; 3:37pm EST on Monday) from the newly-finished Launch Complex 1B (LC-1B) launch pad, which started construction in late 2019.

 

The payload for The Owlโ€™s Night Continues is Synspectiveโ€™s StriX-ฮฒ Earth observation satellite, equipped with an X-band synthetic aperture radar. It is the second demonstrator craft built by the company.

Travis View is a conspiracy theory researcher who co-hosts the podcast "QAnon Anonymous."

The theory's believers "always fantasize that they are saving children and they're bringing criminals to justice," View says. "But QAnon only hurts people. It has helped nobody."

There aren't solid estimates for the number of QAnon followers worldwide, but it's clear their ranks are growing. A CNN investigation reviewed QAnon-related Facebook pages and groups based only outside the US and found a total of at least 12.8 million interactions between the beginning of the year and the last week of September.

Hunter Bidenโ€™s partner gets prison sentence

 

Bidenโ€™s Burisma board colleague sentenced to prison for securities fraud

 

evon Archer, a close friend and former business partner of President Joe Bidenโ€™s son Hunter, was sentenced on Monday for defrauding a Native American tribe. A federal judge in New York said Archer may go to prison for a year and a day, as well as serve one year of probation and forfeit $14 million in property.

 

Archer gained notoriety when it emerged he introduced Hunter Biden โ€“ his partner at Rosemont Seneca โ€“ to the Ukrainian gas company Burisma back in 2014.

 

Both Archer and Biden sat on Burismaโ€™s board of directors for years, reportedly being paid over $83,000 a month.

 

Mondayโ€™s sentence is not related to the Ukrainian gas deals, however, but the June 2018 conviction for conspiracy and securities fraud, over Archerโ€™s role in a bond scheme to defraud an Oglala Sioux tribe to the tune of tens of millions.

 

Archer and two other defendants conspired to have the Wakpamni Lake Community Corporation issue a series of tribal bonds and defrauded both the tribe and the buyers of the bonds while pocketing the profits, the court said in 2018. Archer and another defendant had used the bonds to meet capital requirements in broker deals, and used the profits to buy companies โ€œas part of a strategy to build a financial services conglomerate,โ€ according to the Department of Justice.

 

On Monday, Judge Ronnie Abrams said the crime was too serious to avoid prison time, but cut the sentence down from the 30 months requested by prosecutors, reportedly citing the Covid-19 pandemic as the reason. He also ordered a one-year probation rather than the requested three years. The US government may also seize up to $14 million in assets owned by Archer as restitution to the tribe.

 

Abrams also gave Archer 60 days to report to prison, but then said he would set a new surrender date pending appeal.

 

Archer has appealed the sentence all the way to the US Supreme Court, without success. In November 2021, it emerged that Archer had requested โ€“ and Judge Abrams had granted โ€“ permission to go on over 40 international trips since his indictment and even conviction.

Hunter Bidenโ€™s pal sentenced to prison for role in fraud scheme

 

A former business partner of Hunter Biden was sentenced Monday to more than a year in prison for his role in a scheme to defraud a Native American tribe of some $60 million in bonds.

 

The defendant, Devon Archer, was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison by Manhattan Judge Ronnie Abrams, who said the crime was โ€œtoo seriousโ€ to let him just walk.

 

โ€œThereโ€™s no dispute about the harm caused to real people,โ€ Abrams said, noting that the defrauded tribe, the Oglala Sioux, is one of the poorest in the nation.

 

Archer will also have to pay more than $15 million in forfeiture by himself and more than $43 million in restitution with his co-defendants in the case.

 

The convicted fraudster has maintained his innocence and intends to appeal the conviction and sentence, his attorney, Matthew Schwartz, said in court Monday.

 

In brief statements to Abrams just before Archer was sentenced, he and Schwartz claimed he was taken advantage of by corrupt businessmen who wanted to use him in the scheme.
