Obamaโ€™s Campaign Paid $972,000 To Law Firm That Secretly Paid Fusion GPS In 2016

 

Former president Barack Obamaโ€™s official campaign organization has directed nearly a million dollars to the same law firm that funneled money to Fusion GPS, the firm behind the infamous Steele dossier. Since April of 2016, Obama For America (OFA) has paid over $972,000 to Perkins Coie, records filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) show.

 

The Washington Post reported last week that Perkins Coie, an international law firm, was directed by both the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clintonโ€™s campaign to retain Fusion GPS in April of 2016 to dig up dirt on then-candidate Donald Trump. Fusion GPS then hired Christopher Steele, a former British spy, to compile a dossier of allegations that Trump and his campaign actively colluded with the Russian government during the 2016 election. Though many of the claims in the dossier have been directly refuted, none of the dossierโ€™s allegations of collusion have been independently verified. Lawyers for Steele admitted in court filings last April that his work was not verified and was never meant to be made public.

 

OFA, Obamaโ€™s official campaign arm in 2016, paid nearly $800,000 to Perkins Coie in 2016 alone, according to FEC records. The first 2016 payments to Perkins Coie, classified only as โ€œLegal Services,โ€ were made April 25-26, 2016, and totaled $98,047. A second batch of payments, also classified as โ€œLegal Services,โ€ were disbursed to the law firm on September 29, 2016, and totaled exactly $700,000. Payments from OFA to Perkins Coie in 2017 totaled $174,725 through August 22, 2017.

 

FEC records as well as federal court records show that Marc Elias, the Perkins Coie lawyer whom the Washington Post reported was responsible for the payments to Fusion GPS on behalf of Clintonโ€™s campaign and the DNC, also previously served as a counsel for OFA. In Shamblin v. Obama for America, a 2013 case in federal court in Florida, federal court records list Elias as simultaneously serving as lead attorney for both OFA and the DNC.

 

OFA, which managed Obamaโ€™s successful re-election campaign in 2012, retooled after that campaign to focus on enacting the presidentโ€™s agenda during his final term in office. The group reorganized again after the 2016 election and planned to use its staff and resources to oppose President Donald Trump. During the entire 2016 campaign cycle, the group spent only $4.5 million, according to FEC records.

Yesterday morning we saw the continued testimony of former FBI general counsel James Baker and Hillary Clinton Campaign manager Robby Mook. (As we previously observed, Mook had already admitted to being briefed on โ€œgeneral updates concerningโ€ Fusion GPS findings - though he has denied knowing who Fusion GPS was.)

 

Iโ€™m traveling this weekend and canโ€™t do the deepest dive into yesterdayโ€™s testimony - including that of the CIA agent in the afternoon session - but here are the highlights from Baker and Mook.

 

The Baker examination, continued.

 

Baker testified that Sussman did not notify him that the discredited Trump-Russia Alfa Bank allegations had been shared with the New York Times. (For a refresher, here are the transcript excerpts from his Thursday testimony.)

 

Q: Did he [Sussman] tell you anything about whether he had a client when he went to The New York Times?

 

A: I guess the answer to that question is no.

 

Q: And you donโ€™t know, sir, whether they were his clients for purposes of attempting to get this story placed in The New York Times, do you?

 

A: Thatโ€™s fair. I do not know that, thatโ€™s correct.

 

Q: You donโ€™t know whether he was working with the Clinton Campaign to do that, do you?

 

A: I do not.

Robert Mook, Hillary Clintonโ€™s 2016 campaign manager, also testified before the jury Friday. In his testimony, he stated that Hillary Clinton personally approved a plan to spread the lie that Trump was colluding with Russia via secret servers to the media. He also admitted to being briefed on the conspiracy.

 

Q: Okay. In connection with the general focus on Mr. Trump and Russia, did there come a time when you learned of potential links between the Trump organization, Mr. Trumpโ€™s business, and a Russian bank called Alfa-bank?

 

A: I did. Yes, I was briefed on that.

 

Q: Approximately when were you first briefed on that, if you remember?

 

A: I honestly canโ€™t recall.

 

Q: Who participated in the briefing, if you remember?

 

A: Myself, Marc Elias, Jen Palmieri, Jake Sullivan, John Podesta. There might have been others, but those are the ones I definitely recall being there.

 

Mook also admitted that the Clinton campaign was focused on Trumpโ€™s relationship with Russia before Summer of 2016.

 

Q: In the Summer of 2016, was Mr. Trumpโ€™s relationship with Russia something that the campaign focused on?

 

A: Yes. I mean, it was frankly something we were focused on before that time. But absolutely.

 

Mook however did deny that the Clinton campaign directed Sussman to go to the FBI, despite admitting that Clinton approved the Trump-Russia allegations to be shared with the media.

 

Q: Were you aware that Mr. Sussman went to the FBI in September of 2016 to give them a heads-up about a New York Times story about Trump and Alfa-Bank?

 

A: No.

 

Q: Do you have any recollection of anyone talking to you about going to the FBI on behalf of the campaign on the Trump/Alfa-Bank issue?

 

A: No.

 

Q: Did you direct Mr. Sussman to go to the FBI on behalf of the campaign?

 

A: Absolutely not.

 

Q: Did you authorize Mr. Sussman to go to the FBI on behalf of the campaign?

 

A: No.

 

Q: Did anyone else from the campaign, to your knowledge, direct or authorize Mr. Sussman to go to the FBI on behalf of the campaign?

Mook also said the decision to push the debunked Russia conspiracy to the media was made by him, Sussman, John Podesta, and Palmeri, and that Hillary Clinton agreed with the decision.

 

Q: And once you learned about it [the Trump-Russia allegations], you started discussing with the campaign whether the campaign should affirmatively push it in the media, right?

 

A: Correct.

 

Q: And you had that discussion with Mr. Sullivan?

 

A: Correct.

 

Q: With Mr. Podesta?

 

A: Just to be clear. This is what - I recall those people, correct.

 

Q: Okay. You had a discussion with Mr. Sullivan?

 

A: Yes, I recall, yes.

 

Q: Whether to push it in the media right?

 

A: Correct.

 

Q: With Ms. Palmieri?

 

A: Correct.

 

Q: With Mr. Podesta?

 

A: Correct.

 

Q: But in any event, the decision to provide this to the media was authorized by the campaign, correct?

 

A: We authorized a staff member of the campaign to provide it to the media.

 

Regarding Hillary Clinton, Mook said:

 

Q: Mr. Mook, before the break you had testified that there was a conversation in which you told Ms. Clinton about the proposed plan to provide the Alfa-Bank allegations to the media; is that correct?

 

A: Correct.

 

Q: And what was her response?

 

A: All I remember is that she agreed with the decision.

 

Some final thoughts: while this trial is about Sussmannโ€™s false statements to the FBI, itโ€™s also more than that.

Inflation imperils Boris Johnsonโ€™s grip on power

Brits forego heating and stay home because of surging prices, say handling of cost crisis will be top election issue, poll shows

A new poll suggests UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is likely headed for defeat in the countryโ€™s next election unless he can begin to convince voters that his party has the right leadership to ease an inflation crisis that is eating away at their standard of living.

The poll, conducted by Savanta ComRes for the Daily Mail and released on Saturday, revealed that only 24% of voters see Johnsonโ€™s Tories as the best party to manage the inflation crisis, compared with 39% who chose the opposition Labour Party. Dealing with surging prices will be the top election issue, the survey showed, as 90% of respondents said it will be an important factor in their vote.

Inflation accelerated to a 40-year high of 9% in the 12 months to April, the UK government reported this week, crimping the lifestyles of most Brits. Six in 10 voters have already begun spending more time at home rather than going out, and 51% are wearing more layers of clothing to avoid using their heaters, the Daily Mail poll showed.

With petrol and diesel prices rising to all-time highs, 44% of voters have turned to walking and cycling more instead of driving. Three in 10 have canceled subscriptions, such as streaming services and gym memberships.

The poll found that many voters have been forced to take more drastic steps, including 21% who skipped meals regularly and 20% who borrowed money from family or friends. Meanwhile, 11% have stopped making loan payments, and 19% have either gone to a food bank or thought about doing so to put meals on the table.

As for who voters blame for the inflation crisis, the top choice was the UK government at 25%, the poll found. This was followed by the Russia-Ukraine conflict at 22%, and the Covid-19 pandemic at 20%. A whopping 74% said the UK economy is worse than it was six months ago.

Brits are looking to the government to help them get through the crisis, with 73% calling for a higher minimum wage, 72% favoring cuts to fuel taxes, and 65% supporting acceleration of a planned reduction in income taxes. Strong majorities also called for reducing environmental levies on energy bills and scrapping a planned increase in national insurance premiums. About 75% said the government should impose a windfall tax on the profits of energy companies.

The poll showed that 40% of respondents plan to vote for the Labour Party in the next election, while 34% favor Johnsonโ€™s Conservative Party. The remaining 26% intend to vote for minor opposition parties

Zelensky reveals size of Ukrainian force fighting Russia

The national military now consists of 700,000 people, the president claims

The size of the Ukrainian military is now almost six times larger than it was at the beginning of the conflict between Kiev and Moscow, President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed.

 

โ€œWe needed an army of more than 250,000 or 260,000, but there were only around 120,000โ€ battle-ready troops in Ukraine before the start of the Russian military operation in late February, Zelensky told Ukraine 24 outlet on Friday.

 

The president noted that heโ€™d given an order in early 2022 to boost the number of soldiers by another 100,000 โ€œno matter if we had the money or not.โ€ Buthe acknowledged that even those numbers werenโ€™t enough to stop the Russian military.

 

โ€œToday itโ€™s 700,000. Now you see the results of the work of 700,000 who are fighting,โ€ he added.

 

Zelensky ordered a general mobilization after the start of the conflict, saying that all men aged between 18 and 60 should stay in the country and fight.

 

Earlier this week, a law was submitted to the Ukrainian parliament calling for those males who still managed to flee and failed to return to the country within 30 days to be deprived of their citizenship.

 

Russia attacked its neighboring state almost three months ago, following Ukraineโ€™s failure to implement the terms of the Minsk agreements, first signed in 2014, and Moscowโ€™s eventual recognition of the Donbass republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. The German- and French-brokered protocol was designed to give the breakaway regions special status within the Ukrainian state.

The Kremlin has since demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join the US-led NATO military bloc. Kiev insists the Russian offensive was completely unprovoked and has denied claims it was planning to retake the two republics by force.

Australian PM concedes as Labor takes power

Scott Morrison acknowledges loss in federal election

 

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has admitted defeat following the countryโ€™s federal elections on Saturday, calling Labor Party chief Anthony Albanese to congratulate him on his victory.

 

The PM conceded in a televised speech from Liberal headquarters in Sydney, adding that he would stand down as the partyโ€™s leader.

 

โ€œOn a night like tonight it is proper to acknowledge the functioning of our democracy. I have always believed in Australians and their judgment, and Iโ€™ve always been prepared to accept their verdicts, and tonight they have delivered their verdict,โ€ Morrison said.

 

The Liberal Party lost more than 12 seats during the election. While vote counting had not been completed at the time of Morrisonโ€™s concession speech, the Labor Partyโ€™s victory appeared certain, winning at least 72 of the parliamentโ€™s 151 seats. Morrisonโ€™s Liberals nabbed just 54, while independents and third parties โ€“ led by the Greens, who secured their best election results yet โ€“ have netted 11 thus far, according to ABC. Labor needs 76 seats to form a majority government.

 

Morrison, who served just one term in office, was not the only prominent Liberal to lose out in the election. Treasurer Josh Frydenberg, viewed as Morrisonโ€™s most likely successor, was also knocked out of his post.

 

Morrisonโ€™s conservative government had been widely panned going into the election for what many viewed as its abysmally poor handling of the Covid-19 pandemic and natural disasters, specifically the devastating fires that preceded the coronavirus outbreak.

 

Albanese thanked his constituents for โ€œvot[ing] for change,โ€ ticking off several policy points in his victory speech with promises to โ€œend the climate wars,โ€ launch a โ€œnational anti-corruption commission,โ€ strengthen the countryโ€™s healthcare and aged care, and turn Australia into a โ€œrenewable energy superpower.โ€ His win is the first victory for Labor since 2007.

US plans to help โ€˜destroyโ€™ Russian fleet โ€“ Ukrainian official

The Pentagon has denied claims made by an Internal Affairs Ministry adviser

 

A top Ukrainian adviser has claimed that the United States is drawing up plans to sink Russian warships and โ€˜destroyโ€™ its Black Sea Fleet, following reports that Washington is seeking to provide advanced anti-ship missiles to the Ukrainian military. The Pentagon has denied the allegations.

 

Ukrainian Internal Affairs Ministry adviser Anton Gerashchenko made the statement on social media on Thursday, saying that discussions are now underway in relation to how the US could help to break a Russian blockade of Black Sea ports.

 

โ€œThe US is preparing a plan for the destruction of the Black Sea Fleet,โ€ he wrote. โ€œThe effective work of the Ukrainians on [Russian] warships convinced [the US] to prepare a plan to unblock the ports. Deliveries of powerful anti-ship weapons (Harpoon and Naval Strike Missile with a range of 250-300km) are being discussed.โ€

 

Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby denied the Kiev officialโ€™s claims, stating during a Friday press briefing โ€œI can tell you definitively that thatโ€™s not true.โ€

 

Gerashchenko had cited a recent Reuters report stating that the Biden administration was โ€œworking to put advanced anti-ship missiles in the hands of Ukrainian fighters to help defeat Russiaโ€™s naval blockade,โ€ referring to the Harpoon and Naval Strike missiles by name.

 

The report noted some obstacles in sending such weapons to Kiev, however, including the โ€œlimited availability of platforms to launch Harpoons from shore,โ€ given that it is largely a sea-based missile.

 

When asked about anti-ship missiles, Kirby said he would not โ€œget ahead of decisions that havenโ€™t been made.โ€ He pointed out that the US is โ€œtalking to the Ukrainians every day,โ€ adding that US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had spoken with Ukrainian Minister of Defense Alexey Reznikov on Friday.

 

โ€œWhen we have decisions, we come right out here and issue a press release,โ€ Kirby stated.

 

The reported discussions around anti-ship munitions follow media reports that Washington may have helped Ukrainian forces to sink Russiaโ€™s Black Sea flagship โ€“ the guided-missile cruiser 'Moskva' โ€“ off the coast of Odessa last month. US officials have denied those suggestions, with Kirby stating that Kiev has its โ€œown intelligence capabilities to track and target Russian naval vessels, as they did in this case,โ€ and that US intelligence was not provided to help locate and strike the ship.

 

Moscow has offered a different version of events, maintaining that the 'Moskva' sank after a fire triggered a blast in a munitions magazine, but has confirmed the death of one sailor and that 27 others are currently missing in action since the ship was lost.

 

Though US officials have yet to publicly confirm whether anti-ship weapons are slated for Ukraine, American military aid to the country has steadily escalated since Russiaโ€™s attack commenced in late February. The recent passage of a massive new $40 billion aid package brought total US assistance to nearly $54 billion since March. Hardware currently being provided includes anti-tank Javelin missiles, anti-aircraft Stingers, long-range artillery pieces, armored vehicles, drones, light arms and ammunition, and other gear. The latest aid bill is also expected to provide for Patriot anti-air missile batteries, despite previous comments from Pentagon officials saying the weapon was off the table.

 

โ€œThere's no discussion about putting a Patriot battery in Ukraine. In order to do that you have to put US troops with it to operate it,โ€ a senior defense official told media in March. โ€œIt is not a system that the Ukrainians are familiar with and as we have made very clear, there will be no US troops fighting in Ukraine.โ€

 

Itโ€™s unclear what has changed since then, and White House and Defense Department officials have offered few details on whose forces will operate the Patriot batteries or the exact location of their deployment during recent briefings.

Worldโ€™s โ€˜first autonomous sea drone carrierโ€™ unveiled

The vessel can reportedly carry dozens of drones, unmanned ships and submersibles

 

China has unveiled the worldโ€™s first autonomous drone carrier vessel, which can be used for both maritime research and security purposes, hosting dozens of unmanned planes, local media have reported.

 

According to the South China Morning Post, the launch of the 88-meter ship named Zhu Hai Yun took place on Wednesday. The vessel can either be controlled remotely or navigate autonomously in open water, the report said, adding that it will contribute greatly to marine scientific research and observation. The Zhu Hai Yun could be deployed for marine disaster prevention and offshore wind farm maintenance, Chinaโ€™s Science and Technology Daily reports.

 

Aside from these civilian uses, the carrier could also reportedly be deployed to intercept โ€œinvasive targets.โ€

 

The Zhu Hai Yun, which aside from a swarm of drones hosts unmanned ships and submersibles, is able to navigate without human intervention thanks to a unique on-board artificial intelligence system. Called the Intelligent Mobile Ocean Stereo Observing System (IMOSOS), it was developed by the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory.

 

Speaking to the Science and Technology Daily outlet last year, Chen Dake, the director of the laboratory, said the โ€œintelligent, unmanned ship is a beautiful, new โ€˜marine speciesโ€™ that will bring revolutionary changes for ocean observation.โ€

 

The drone carrier can reach speeds of up to 18 knots (33km per hour), Chinese media reported.

 

The Zhu Hai Yun, all parts of which were designed and manufactured in China, is expected to enter service by the end of the year.

 

Turkey has also been pursuing similar technology. Last May, Forbes reported that national drone manufacturer Baykar had come up with a way to turn the Anadolu assault ship into a drone carrier. But judging by media reports, Ankara has not yet carried out the project.

DOJ Announces New Hate Crimes and โ€˜Bias-Related Incidentโ€™ Measures

 

A grant worth $5 million will be used to set up a federal hate crime reporting hotline

 

On Friday, the U.S. Department of Justice announced new initiatives worth $10 million to combat hates crimes and other โ€œbias-related incidents.โ€ The move comes just days after the House passed a bill that would authorize โ€œdedicated officesโ€ within U.S. federal government departments to monitor domestic terrorism and hate crimes.

 

โ€œThroughout our history, and to this day, hate crimes have a singular impact because of the terror and fear they inflict on entire communities,โ€ Attorney General Merrick Garland wrote in a press release.

 

โ€œWe have seen a spike in hate crimes against many communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. In many cases, individuals are still scared to leave their homes โ€“ not only because of worry that they may contract the virus, but out of fear for their physical safety,โ€ Garland continued.

 

This is unacceptable,โ€ said Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, who serves as Co-Chair of the White House Initiative and Presidentโ€™s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. โ€œThe Biden-Harris Administration is committed to combatting hate crimes against all Americans. Todayโ€™s announcements help deliver on the Presidentโ€™s pledge to ensure the safety of our communities.โ€

 

The DOJ issued new guidance with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to raise awareness on COVID-19 related hate crimes.

 

Garland referenced attacks against โ€œAsian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communitiesโ€ while detailing โ€œseveral steps that law enforcement, government officials, and others can take to raise awareness of increased hate crimes and incidents.โ€

 

These steps include $5 million in grant opportunities the department will use to set up a state-run reporting hotline for victims of hate crimes.

 

โ€œThrough these programs, the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) will provide up to $5 million in grant funds for the Bureau of Justice Statistics to support the transition of state and local law enforcement agencies to the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) and reporting of hate crimes through NIBRS, and for the Office of Victims of Crime (OVC) to fund states to establish and run state-run reporting hotlines for victims of hate crimes,โ€ Garland wrote.

 

In addition, Garland tapped Saeed Mody to serve as the Departmentโ€™s new โ€œAnti-Hate Crimes Resources Coordinator.โ€

 

The DOJโ€™s announcement comes on the one-year anniversary of the enactment of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes and โ€œKhalid Jabara-Heather Heyer NO HATE Acts.โ€

 

Since January 2021, the DOJ has said it has secured more than 35 convictions of defendants charged with โ€œbias-motivated crimesโ€, according to The Epoch Times.

Camp director removed after suit alleges sex abuse โ€˜cover upโ€™

 

The head of a well-known Jewish sleepaway camp was removed from his post in the wake of a lawsuit that alleged he tried to cover up a teenโ€™s sexual-abuse claim, legal papers say.

 

Rabbi Ethan Linden was put on leave as head of Camp Ramah in Wingdale, NY, which costs more than $11,000 a summer.

 

The action comes four years after the alleged incident involving a 15-year-old New Jersey camper identified as Jane Doe in the lawsuit.

 

The girl claims that she awoke on July 7, 2018, to find a male camper in her bed โ€œwith his hands touching her โ€ฆ and his fingers inside her genitals,โ€ according to the suit filed May 4 in Manhattan federal court.

 

The alleged assault was reported to Linden, who โ€œinsisted he would keep all of this a secret.โ€ When the teen insisted she be allowed to call her parents, Linden allegedly explained away the assault to them by saying there had been a โ€œlittle incidentโ€ and that โ€œnothing really happened.โ€

 

โ€œHe is just a horny little boy,โ€ he allegedly told the victim.

 

The boy was arrested for forcible touching and the case was brought in Family Court, according to the suit, which seeks unspecified damages.

 

The suit names Linden, the camp and the Manhattan-based National Ramah Commission which oversees it.

 

The camp said Linden had been placed on administrative leave and that its โ€œboard will reassess his status once there has been a thorough review of the allegations contained in the legal complaint.โ€

 

Wylie Stecklow, a lawyer for the victim, said Lindenโ€™s removal was โ€œa good first step in the right direction.โ€

 

โ€œWe will only know if Camp Ramah is serious about addressing the harmful conduct that was permitted to exist for such a long time if further remedial steps are taken throughout the Ramah Camps and the organization itself,โ€ he said.

 

Linden did not immediately return a request for comment.

Lawmaker Demands Capitol Police Release Tapes After โ€˜Falseโ€™ Allegation by Jan. 6 Panel

 

Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.), ranking GOP member of the House Administration Committee, is demanding that U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) release security footage tapes from Jan. 5, 2021, after the Jan. 6 panel made โ€œdemonstrably falseโ€ allegations against another House Republican.

 

Specifically, in a letter to the USCP, Davis cited โ€œrecent press reports, [that] the partisan January 6th Select Committee has falsely accused Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) โ€ฆ of leading so-called reconnaissance tours of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 5, 2021.โ€

 

This charge, Davis said, โ€œis demonstrably false. As you are aware, [Administration] Committee Minority staff have reviewed all footage in question and have confirmed no โ€˜reconnaissance toursโ€™ occurred.โ€

 

Davis also foresaw and rejected claims that the tapes he requested would pose a security risk if released to the public, noting that the same tapes have already been made public in some capacity.

 

โ€œAny argument that this footage represents sensitive โ€˜security informationโ€™ was destroyed once the Board provided copies

to Democrat impeachment managers for public dissemination or it otherwise became available to the public,โ€ Davis wrote.

 

Concluding the letter, Davis wrote: โ€œIf the Board has any hope of preserving a reputation as an unbiased security agency and re-establishing itself as a non-partisan entity, there is no alternative but to release the tapes. If the Board does not release the relevant footage in a timely manner, I will have no choice but to exercise my authority under 2 U.S.C. $ 1979 to release the footage myself.โ€

 

The Jan. 6 panel originally leveled the charge against Loudermilk in a May 19 letter requesting his โ€œvoluntary cooperation in advancing our investigationโ€ (pdf).

 

โ€œWe believe you have information regarding a tour you led through parts of the Capitol complex on Jan. 5, 2021,โ€ the letter said.

 

โ€œThe foregoing information raises questions to which the Select Committee must seek answers,โ€ the Jan. 6 panel continued. โ€œPublic reporting and witness accounts indicate some individuals and groups engaged in efforts to gather information about the layout of the U.S. Capitol, as well as the House and Senate office buildings, in advance of January 6, 2021. For example, in the week following January 6th, Members urged law enforcement leaders to investigate sightings of โ€˜outside groups in the complexโ€™ on January 5th that โ€˜appeared to be associated with the rally at the White House the following day.'โ€

 

However, Republicans on the House Administration Committee have refuted this claim, saying that their own review of the tapes inside the Capitol on Jan. 5, 2021, showed that no tours had been givenโ€”a claim that Davis seems confident enough to back up with a public release of the tapes in question.

Zelensky gives details on Azovstal surrender

Ukrainian fighters laid down their arms after getting a โ€œsignalโ€ from Kiev, the president insists

 

The Ukrainian troops and members of the neo-Nazi Azov Battalion, who had been holed up at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol for weeks, surrendered to Russian forces on orders from Kiev, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed.

 

โ€œThe guys had received a signal from the military that they have every right to come out and save their lives,โ€ Zelensky told Ukraine 24 outlet on Friday.

 

Russia had announced the full liberation of Azovstal on the same day, saying more than 2,400 Ukrainian combatants, including their commanders, had surrendered during the week.

 

They laid down their arms without any preconditions following talks with the Russian forces, according to Moscow. Wounded fighters are being treated in hospital, while the rest have reportedly been taken to penitentiary facilities in the Donbass.

 

During the siege of the steel plant, Moscow insisted that those inside were suffering heavy losses, lacking food and water and wanted to surrender, but couldnโ€™t do so without the approval of the Ukrainian government, fearing that they could be court-martialed. But Kiev had been reluctant to give the necessary order.

 

Zelensky claimedthat Ukrainian intelligence services had overseen what he described as the โ€œwithdrawal of the defenders of [Azovstal], the preparations for dialogue, exchange and so on.โ€

 

โ€œWeโ€™re going to bring them home,โ€ he said of the surrendered fighters. However, the president added that a lot depends on whether the UN, the Red Cross and Russia follow through on their commitments.

 

Despite Kiev earlier saying there was no way for it to help those inside Azovstal by military means, Zelensky said heโ€™d had been in talks with foreign partners to supply weapons that could allow the Ukrainian forces to reach the steel plant.

 

Many Ukrainian pilots also died trying to make their way to Azovstal, he said, adding that there were plans to airdrop drugs and food at the plant.

 

โ€œA lot of things were happening that none of us could comment on officially. The aerial corridors to Azovstal were lacking because of the strong Russian air defenses,โ€ the Ukrainian leader revealed.

 

Mariupol has seen the heaviest fighting since the start of Russiaโ€™s military operation in Ukraine in late February, suffering immense destruction. Moscow announced the capture of the strategic port city a month ago. Azovstal had remained the last pocket of Ukrainian resistance in the area, but the steel plant and its massive underground network has now also fallen under Russian control

But contemporary federal law also requires that the defendant take some affirmative act to conceal the felony. The crime has four elements:

 

a completed felony

the defendant knowing about the felony's commission

the defendant failing to notify a proper law enforcement authority, and

the defendant taking some affirmative step to conceal the felony.

Typical acts of concealment include making false statements, hiding evidence, and harboring the felon. Whether someone's actions amount to concealment is for the jury to decide.

Although the crime has a broad definition, misprision prosecutions are uncommon. California Church Shooter Has Chinese Communist Party Ties

 

The shooter who targeted Taiwanese congregants at a Southern California church is associated with a group tied to the Chinese Communist Party that calls for China's takeover of Taiwan, Radio Free Asia reported.

 

David Chou, a 68-year-old Chinese immigrant who on Sunday killed one congregant and wounded five others at Geneva Presbyterian Church before being subdued by parishioners, in 2019 participated in an event hosted by the Las Vegas Association for China's Peaceful Unification. The group is controlled by the Communist Party's United Front Work Department and argues that "peaceful unification" between China and Taiwan "is the only way to avoid war."

 

At the 2019 event, Chou hoisted a banner calling for the "eradication of pro-independence demons."

 

The Las Vegas Association for China's Peaceful Unification is a branch of the National Association for China's Peaceful Unification, which the United States in 2020 designated as a foreign mission of the Chinese regime.

 

The Orange County sheriff's office said on Monday that Chou's attack on the church was motivated by his hatred for the Taiwanese.

A history of naked imperialism continues as Biden approves Somalia redeployment

 

Biden has reversed Donald Trumpโ€™s withdrawal of US forces from Somalia and will redeploy Special Operations Forces. It is just the latest move in a long history of destructive US-UK meddling in the Horn of Africa.

 

Almost as soon as the administration of President Joseph Biden announced a redeployment of US Special Operations Forces to Somalia on May 16, the Western media began to spin the intervention.

 

As the BBC framed it, Bidenโ€™s deployment would โ€œsupport the fight against militant group al-Shababโ€ (sic). The intervention coincides with the re-election of former Somalian President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who governed between 2012 and โ€˜17.

 

Similarly, the New York Times (NYT) reported that โ€œBiden has approved a Pentagon request for standing authority to target about a dozen suspected leaders of Al Shabab, the Somali terrorist group that is affiliated with Al Qaeda.โ€

 

But are these motives true? Does Washington really want merely to defeat al-Shabab? Is al-Shabab actually linked to al-Qaeda and, if so, to what degree? As usual, the mainstream state-corporate media reportage is missing context and reference to international law.

 

As we shall see, the context behind the US redeployment is naked imperialism using counterterrorism as the latest in a long line of excuses to interfere in the politics of the strategically-significant country on the Horn of Africa. In terms of international law, signatories of the UN Charter have legal responsibilities to gain authorization from the Security Council before launching military operations โ€“โ€“ something the Biden administration and its predecessors have never done in Somalia, or anywhere else, for that matter.

 

It is also worth tackling the Trump-era propaganda, which is double-edged. Trump supporters claimed that their hero ended Americaโ€™s โ€œforever wars,โ€ as he โ€œbombed the shit out of ISIS,โ€ in his words, which often meant dumping munitions on Iraqi and Syrian women and children, while blowing Somalis to pieces via drone operators in numbers greater than during Obamaโ€™s term. It is accurate that Trump withdrew US ground forces from Somalia, though it appears to have been both an America First PR stunt and a device to make things difficult for the incoming Biden administration.

 

On the other side, the pro-war, neoliberal, anti-Trump establishment sought to portray Trumpโ€™s withdrawal of ground troops as a sign of American weakness in the face of globalized โ€œIslamicโ€ terrorists. By demonizing Trump and inaccurately reporting the motives of his withdrawal, the NYT, BBC and company were essentially clamoring for US militarism in Somalia: Trump bad so militarism good. And as usual, their reporting was absent of any critical or skeptical voices.

Russian Media Says Head Of Azov In Custody After 2,439 Total Fighters Surrender At Steel Plant

 

Late Friday Russia's Defense Ministry announced that the last Ukrainian fighters holed up in the giant Azovstal steelworks plant emerged, days after there were reports that top Azov commanders still holding out.

 

The ministry said it counted 2,439 defenders had emerged and surrendered over the past few days. The final holdout group that was last to come out was tallied at 531. The Russian military's now total control over the sprawling plant and city of Mariupol is considered the be its greatest victory over three months of war.

 

The final 500+ came out Friday, after Azov regiment commander Denys Prokopenko giving the order to stop defending the city. "The higher military command has given the order to save the lives of the soldiers of our garrison and to stop defending the city." Prokopenko had said in a video posted to Telegram.

 

The Ukrainian side has presented it as an end to the "combat mission" while Moscow emphasized the Azov militants, who are neo-Nazi in ideology, were defeated and surrendered. Prokopenko those under him to preserve "life and health โ€ฆ and stop defending the city."

 

Russia announced that "The territory of the Azovstal metallurgical plant โ€ฆ has been completely liberated." Further, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu informed President Putin of the city's complete 'liberation'.

 

Crucially, there are Russian and other international press reports saying that the head of Azov is now in Russian military custody: "The Russian Defense Ministry also confirmed the surrender of Denis Prokopenko, the commander of the so-called Azov battalion - a far-right military unit of neo-Nazi volunteers operating in Ukraine as a reserve force of the country's Armed Forces," according to the reports.

 

Meanwhile, Western mainstream media has remained silent on the fate of the Azov leaders - likely also as few or none of its correspondents are on the ground at Azovstal, and Kiev has yet to confirm whether or not Prokopenko and others are now in Russian detention.

Japan Nuclear Regulator Greenlights Radiactive Water Release From Fukushima

 

The Japanese Nuclear Regulator Authority has given its initial approval to Tepco to start releasing irradiated water from the Fukushima plant that collapsed during a massive earthquake and tsunami in 2011.

 

Plans were revealed last year to pour the water from Fukushima into the sea after an assessment that would check whether there were any safety issues with such a plan. According to the Nuclear Regulator Authority, there are none. Final approval will be granted in a month after the public has had the opportunity to comment on the issue.

 

The UNโ€™s International Atomic Energy Agency will also carry out safety reviews of the water release.

 

There are about a million tons of contaminated water from Fukushima that Tepco, the operator of the nuclear plant, has been looking for ways to dispose of for several years now. Releasing the water into the ocean has emerged as the most viable solution to the problem despite opposition both from inside Japan and its neighbors.

 

Despite the absence of viable options, environmental groups and fishing industry organizations are against the release of the liquid into the sea, even with assurances from scientists that the risk of contamination is low.

 

The water will be first filtered and then diluted to reduce the concentration of radioactive material 40 times, according to some of the reports from last year that were confirmed this year as well. The release is scheduled to begin this year if the Nuclear Regulator Authority gives its final go-ahead to Tepco.

 

Back in 2018, official calculations by the Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corp pegged the cost of decommissioning the Fukushima nuclear power plant at some $75 billion, which was a sum four times larger than the initial estimate of how much it would cost to put Fukushima out of commission.

The report estimated how much the 2020 census either overcounted or undercounted the total population in each state and showed the count largely was accurate in all but 14 states. However, the bureau found the count varied by as much as 5 percent in states like Arkansas, Florida, Texas, New York and Minnesota.

 

In Florida, for example, the census missed an estimated 3 percent of its overall population. The state gained one congressional seat based on the census results, but fell short of getting a second additional seat by 171,000 people, or less than 1 percent of its population.

 

The census missed an estimated 1.9 percent of the population in Texas, which missed out on a third new congressional seat by less than 1 percent of its population.

 

According to population projections the Census Bureau released before the count, Florida had been expected to gain two congressional seats and Texas had been expected to gain three.

Azovstal โ€˜fully liberatedโ€™ โ€“ Russian military

The last members of Ukraineโ€™s neo-Nazi Azov unit have surrendered in Mariupol

 

The entire territory of the Azovstal factory complex in Mariupol has been liberated, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on Friday. More than 2,400 people surrounded inside for almost a month, including Ukrainian servicemen and members of the neo-Nazi Azov unit, have laid down their arms and surrendered.

 

โ€œThe last group of 531 militants surrendered today,โ€ the Russian military spokesman, Major-General Igor Konashenkov, said in a statement. He added that a total of โ€œ2,439 Azov Nazisโ€ and Ukrainian servicemen had laid down their arms since May 16, and that the entire Azovstal complex is now under control of Russian armed forces.

 

Azov and remnants of Ukrainian regular troops retreated into the sprawling steel factory on the coast of Mariupol, where they were completely surrounded on April 21. Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the military not to storm the complex but to blockade it โ€œso a fly canโ€™t get insideโ€ and compel the militants to surrender.

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu informed Putin on Friday of the successful completion of the operation, Konashenkov said. He also said that Azov commander had to be transported in an armored car for his safety.

 

Theso-called โ€œcommanderโ€ of the Azov Naziswas taken away from the factory in a special armored car, due to the hatred of Mariupol residents and their desire for revenge against him for numerous atrocities.

 

In a video released on social media earlier in the day, Azov commander Svyatoslav โ€œKalynaโ€ Palamar denied he had left the factory and said he was conducting a โ€œcertain operationโ€ whose details he could not disclose. Palamar thanked โ€œthe worldโ€ and Ukraine for support, and signed off with โ€œsee you.โ€

 

After the first batch of militants surrendered on Monday, the government in Kiev announced the โ€œend of combat operationsโ€ in Mariupol and said it had ordered the Azovstal troops to save their lives. President Volodymyr Zelensky personally said on May 18 that the โ€œevacuation missionโ€ from Azovstal was being โ€œsupervised by our military and intelligence officersโ€ with the involvement of โ€œthe most influential international mediators.โ€

 

Both Ukraine and most Western media outlets avoided the word โ€œsurrender,โ€ even when the Russian military published videos clearly showing the militants laying down their weapons.

Ukraine considers depriving citizenship

The proposed law would target men who left the country during martial law and failed to return within 30 days

 

Ukrainian lawmakers have introduced a bill that seeks to deprive conscripts of citizenship if they have left the country during martial law.

 

Such a move would be a breach of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which is regarded as the foundation of international human rights law. The 1948 proclamation makes the โ€œarbitrary deprivation of nationalityโ€ an offence.

 

In a bill registered in the Verkhovna Rada โ€“ Kievโ€™s parliament โ€“ on Tuesday, lawmakers proposed several amendments to legislation defining the legal regime under martial law intended to โ€œstrengthen the economy and defensive capabilities of the country.โ€

 

One of the proposals suggests that anyone liable for military service may be deprived of Ukrainian citizenship if they left the country and failed to return within 30 days.

 

The measure would apply to those who left and did not return without a valid reason, such as a ban on leaving the host country, natural disasters, accidents, business trips, official work abroad, hospitalization or other circumstances preventing the individual from returning back home.

 

The bill also states that the measures would extend to individuals who have left for the Russian Federation amid the ongoing military conflict between Moscow and Kiev and those who have submitted a written refusal to mobilize.

 

On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on the extension of martial lawand the terms of general mobilization in the country by 90 days, which is now awaiting approval by the Supreme Council of Ukraine.

 

Under Ukraineโ€™s martial law, men between the ages of 18 and60are prohibited from leaving the country and all citizens liable for military service are required to participate in the general mobilization of all reserve forces.

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg Accuses Lina Hidalgo of Withholding Evidence in Probe Into $11 Million Vaccine Outreach Contract

 

Texas โ€“ Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg accused Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo of withholding evidence in the investigation into a canceled $11 million vaccine outreach contract.

 

Kim Ogg demanded Hidalgo provide the evidence under oath to Texas Rangers immediately.

 

Ogg, a Democrat, also blasted Lina Hidalgo for making โ€œnearly daily public misstatementsโ€ about the investigation into the $11 million โ€˜vaccine outreach contractโ€™ awarded to a one-person firm with no experience in the field.

 

Hidalgoโ€™s top three staffers were indicted last month after prosecutors expanded their investigation.

 

Lina Hidalgo knows sheโ€™s going to be indicted next which is why sheโ€™s lashing out at the District Attorney and trying to smear her investigation as a โ€˜political vendetta.โ€™

 

โ€œI expect this political exercise to continue through Election Day. [Kim Ogg] will have me indicted. Or name a โ€˜special prosecutorโ€™- an illusion of independence since those are still beholden to the DA. She did that before in a political prosecution that went nowhere. Iโ€™m not deterred.โ€

 

Hidalgo also trashed the DA in a press conference.

 

Kim Ogg responded to Lina Hidalgoโ€™s smear campaign and warned her to keep her mouth shut about the ongoing investigation.

On Thursday, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg blasted Hidalgo in a written statement over what she calls โ€œnearly daily public misstatementsโ€ made by the county judge. Ogg said she felt compelled to comment about Hidalgoโ€™s recent remarks.

 

โ€œFailing to do so allows a top county official, in her official capacity, to continue to improperly influence those people of Harris County who will serve on the jury in this case,โ€ Ogg said. โ€œThis harms everyone, including the accused, and must stop.โ€

 

Ogg, a Democrat in her second term as district attorney, also accused Hidalgo of publicly revealing information not previously known by authorities.

 

โ€œJudge Hidalgo has referred to case evidence, to information (that) the investigators and prosecutors donโ€™t have,โ€ Ogg said. โ€œShe has an ethical duty and responsibility to provide any evidence under oath to the Texas Rangers and she should do so immediately.โ€

An underwater volcano caused 85,000 earthquakes in Antarctica

A long-dormant underwater volcano near Antarctica may have erupted, triggering 85,000 earthquakes in the area. Research stations reported the swarm of earthquakes as early as August 2020. They lasted for several months, subsiding in November of that same year. Since then, researchers have been looking for the cause behind the earthquakes.

 

Researchers โ€œfingerโ€ of magma from an underwater volcano near Antarctica caused the earthquakes. The volcano in question is known as the Orca Seamount. Itโ€™s an underwater volcano that rises 2,950 feet from the seafloor. The Orca Seamount is located in the Bransfield Strait, which is a narrow passage between the northwestern tip of Antarctica and the South Shetland Islands.

 

This region is also home to the Phoenix tectonic plate. A study from 2018 says this plate is currently digging beneath Antarcticaโ€™s continental plate. The outcome of those movements is the creation of multiple fault zones in the area. These zones have stretched the crust of the Earth in the region, and opened rifts in other places.

 

Using data from King George Islandโ€™s research stations, as well as stations from the global satellite navigation system, the researchers were able to measure the ground displacement. Based on that data, they believe the underwater volcano near Antarctica may have erupted, causing the swarm of earthquakes in 2020.

 

When the swarm of earthquakes began to take place, scientists at research stations on King George Island were the first to feel the rumbling of the Earth. Word of the quakes got back to Simone Cesca, a seismologist at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam. Cesca told Live Science that intrusions similar to these have happened in other places on our planet.

 

Cesca says we are lucky to have seen such an occurrence. They normally occur over โ€œgeologic time scalesโ€, not a humanโ€™s life span. Overall, the researchers believe the volcano near Antarctica caused multiple quakes. These included a 5.9 and 6.0 magnitude quake in October and November respectively. They believe these bigger quakes are what caused the ground disruption.

 

Overall, the ground on King George Island moved around 4.3 inches. The researchers published their findings on the quakes in the journal Communications Earth & Environment. Unfortunately, without diving to the bottom of the ocean floor, thereโ€™s no way to fully determine if the underwater volcano is to blame for the swarm of earthquakes.

Obamaโ€™s campaign organization has paid nearly a million dollars to the law firm that funneled money to Fusion GPS to compile a dossier of allegations against Donald Trump.

Former president Barack Obamaโ€™s official campaign organization has directed nearly a million dollars to the same law firm that funneled money to Fusion GPS, the firm behind the infamous Steele dossier. Since April of 2016, Obama For America (OFA) has paid over $972,000 to Perkins Coie, records filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) show.

The Washington Post reported last week that Perkins Coie, an international law firm, was directed by both the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clintonโ€™s campaign to retain Fusion GPS in April of 2016 to dig up dirt on then-candidate Donald Trump. Fusion GPS then hired Christopher Steele, a former British spy, to compile a dossier of allegations that Trump and his campaign actively colluded with the Russian government during the 2016 election. Though many of the claims in the dossier have been directly refuted, none of the dossierโ€™s allegations of collusion have been independently verified. Lawyers for Steele admitted in court filings last April that his work was not verified and was never meant to be made public.

OFA, Obamaโ€™s official campaign arm in 2016, paid nearly $800,000 to Perkins Coie in 2016 alone, according to FEC records. The first 2016 payments to Perkins Coie, classified only as โ€œLegal Services,โ€ were made April 25-26, 2016, and totaled $98,047. A second batch of payments, also classified as โ€œLegal Services,โ€ were disbursed to the law firm on September 29, 2016, and totaled exactly $700,000. Payments from OFA to Perkins Coie in 2017 totaled $174,725 through August 22, 2017.

FEC records as well as federal court records show that Marc Elias, the Perkins Coie lawyer whom the Washington Post reported was responsible for the payments to Fusion GPS on behalf of Clintonโ€™s campaign and the DNC, also previously served as a counsel for OFA. In Shamblin v. Obama for America, a 2013 case in federal court in Florida, federal court records list Elias as simultaneously serving as lead attorney for both OFA and the DNC.

OFA, which managed Obamaโ€™s successful re-election campaign in 2012, retooled after that campaign to focus on enacting the presidentโ€™s agenda during his final term in office. The group reorganized again after the 2016 election and planned to use its staff and resources to oppose President Donald Trump. During the entire 2016 campaign cycle, the group spent only $4.5 million, according to FEC records.

Federal records show that Hillary Clintonโ€™s official campaign organization, Hillary For America, paid just under $5.1 million to Perkins Coie in 2016. The DNC paid nearly $5.4 million to the law firm in 2016.

The timing and nature of the payments to Perkins Coie by Obamaโ€™s official campaign arm raise significant questions about whether OFA was funding Fusion GPS, how much Obama and his team knew about the contents and provenance of the dossier long before its contents were made public, and whether the president or his government lieutenants knowingly used a partisan political document to justify official government actions targeting the presidentโ€™s political opponents named in the dossier. At the same time that Hillaryโ€™s campaign, Obamaโ€™s campaign organization, and the DNC were simultaneously paying Perkins Coie, the spouse of one of Fusion GPSโ€™s key employees was working directly for Obama in the West Wing. Shailagh Murray, a former Washington Post reporter-turned-political operative, was serving as a top communications adviser to Obama while the Obama administration was reportedly using information from the dossier to justify secret surveillance of Trump campaign staff. Murray is married to Neil King, a former Wall Street Journal reporter who was hired by Fusion GPS in December of 2016. While at the Wall Street Journal, King worked alongside Fusion GPSโ€™s core team, even sharing bylines with Glenn Simpson, the Fusion GPS executive who personally hired Steele to probe Trumpโ€™s alleged Russia connections.

The importance of the dossier funded by Democrats, commissioned by Fusion GPS, and compiled by Steele, is difficult to overstate given that its contents were reportedly briefed to both President Obama and then-President-Elect Trump. The dossier was eventually published in full by BuzzFeed on January 10. On January 6, then-FBI Director James Comey had briefed Trump on the allegations in Steeleโ€™s dossier. Steele admitted in court filings that he had shopped much of the information in his dossier to numerous media outlets beginning in September of 2016.

Fusion GPS, which has been accused of illegally operating as an undisclosed agent of foreign governments, is currently facing multiple congressional inquiries into its activities and its clients. Bill Browder, whose attorney was allegedly murdered by Russian authorities after publicizing explosive allegations of Russian fraud and money laundering, alleged in congressional testimony last July that Fusion GPS was paid by Russians to undermine U.S. sanctions against the country. Late last week, Fusion GPS reportedly struck a deal with U.S. House investigators regarding a federal subpoena of the firmโ€™s bank records. And in September, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who serves as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, reportedly requested that the U.S. Treasury Departmentโ€™s financial crimes unit provide his committee with all suspicious activity reports related to Fusion GPSโ€™s bank transactions.

Following reports of Perkins Coieโ€™s role in funneling money to Fusion GPS, the Campaign Legal Center, a non-partisan campaign finance watchdog, filed a complaint with the FEC alleging that the secret funding schemes violated federal campaign disclosure laws.

Fusion GPS is also facing a separate defamation suit in federal court related to claims in the dossier. That case, which was brought by three Russian businessmen who claim to have been libeled in the Steele dossier, was filed in federal court in Washington, D.C., in early October. Fusion GPS is yet to respond to those allegations in court.

$65 Billion in Western 'Aid for Ukraine' Is Neither Aid Nor Is it for Ukraine

In recent weeks, much has been said about the political Westโ€™s (primarily US) โ€œaidโ€ to the embattled Kiev regime. The US Congress has so far approved or is in the process of approving at least $54 billion to Ukraine. In addition, various reports put the amount of EU โ€œaidโ€ at up to โ‚ฌ10 billion thus far, although the actual number is most likely orders of magnitude greater. When put together, this pushes the publicly acknowledged figure to a staggering $65 billion, which is equivalent to Russiaโ€™s annual military spending in nominal USD exchange rates.

 

The number seems rather impressive and may give an outlook that Ukraine will be able to defeat Russian forces. However, the situation on the ground says otherwise. With the political Westโ€™s postindustrial economy, their ability to mass-produce affordable and easily replaceable military hardware has increasingly been called into question. Thus, most of the โ€œaidโ€ from the US/EU is essentially a half measure. Throwing money at a problem is highly unlikely to resolve it, as actual situations require genuine, not monetary action.

 

The amount of hardware Ukraine lost so far is difficult to determine, as both sides provide diametrically opposing data, while independent confirmation from the ground is virtually impossible due to ongoing military operations. However, war footage taken by civilians, alternative media embedded with frontline troops, and soldiers themselves, clearly shows that Ukraineโ€™s losses in manpower and equipment have been massive.

 

To replace lost hardware, the Kiev regime will require enormous resources. However, this will be quite challenging, as the countryโ€™s Military-Industrial Complex has been virtually annihilated by Russiaโ€™s long-range strikes. Thus, the regime will need to acquire additional military hardware elsewhere. The political West is the go-to address for this purpose, as Ukraine has been getting NATO weapons for years. Still, this hardware has had a limited impact on the battlefield. To change that, NATO powers decided to ramp up the so-called โ€œlethal aidโ€.

 

However, in reality, the prospect of Ukraine getting the promised โ€œaidโ€ is rather grim. An obvious question arises, what will happen to nearly $65 billion? The first go-to address for such a question should be the US Congress. With the lawmaking body trying to fast track the deal, some US congressmen have voiced concerns that corrupt officials would be able to steal the โ€œaidโ€, as was the case for decades during numerous US invasions across the globe. However, corruption and embezzlement, which geopolitical expert Paul Antonopoulos recently covered in a superb analysis, is the lesser problem in this situation.

Newly Discovered Virus May Wipe Out Global Bee Population, Scientists Warn

 

The new virus variant is spread by varroa mites or โ€œvarroa destructorsโ€, a devastating pest which feeds on the hemolymph (blood) of the Western honey bee population. The mites invade honeybee hives and can eat honey bee pupa as well as spread viruses.

A newly discovered variant of the Deformed Wing Virus (DWV) is threatening to wipe out the global bee population.

The bee population is already vulnerable due to human-inflicted causes including pesticides, drought, habitat destruction prompted by construction sites, air pollution and global warming. A common bee pest, the varroa mite, now poses an additional threat to the beeโ€™s population.

โ€œThe Deformed Wing Virus is arguably the biggest threat to honey bees right now. Our lab research has shown that the new, highly contagious variant is killing bees faster,โ€ says Dr. Robert Paxton who teaches at the Martin Luther University Halle Wittenberg (MLU).

DWV is responsible for causing severe damage to a beeโ€™s wing before eventually killing them. The new variant was discovered by a scientist collective across the globe who have been studying DWV for two decades. The new variant is being spread by varroa mites, a common honey bee pest.

According to researchers at MLU who used 3,000 different sets of data to track down the new variant's location, the new variant has already spread throughout Europe and has already reached every other continent with the exception of Australia.

โ€œOur analysis confirms that the new variant is already the dominating force in Europe. We fear that itโ€™s just a matter of time before it will have forced its way all over the world,โ€ warns Dr. Paxton.

Scientists warn beekeepers that basic, general hygiene measures are a key preventive measure against the destructive pests.

"Basic, general hygiene measures for the hive are paramount for beekeepers when it comes to protecting their colonies from the varroa mite," says Dr. Paxton.

They add that discovering the mites in their early stages of infestation will also help save the hive they are tending.

"Bees are the most important creature for mankind and the environment," adds Dr. Paxton

MAGA Arizona State Senator Wendy Rogers is under fire from Democrats and RINOs for a benign cryptic telegram message about the Buffalo shooting and the FBIโ€™s incompetence in preventing the incident.

 

The radical leftists in the Arizona Senate have even tried to EXPEL Rogers from the Senate in another political witchhunt against a Trump-endorsed candidate.

 

The fake news and the left have already singled out and blamed โ€œUltra-Magaโ€ conservatives for this horrific attack. A recent article by Rolling Stone claims this leftist psychopath, who wrote a manifesto before killing ten people, is a โ€œmainstream Republican.โ€

 

The Gateway Pundit previously reported on some of the disgusting accusations against Fox News host Tucker Carlson for his past political commentary, where he truly denounces violence.

 

Where was the FBI when we needed them? Why werenโ€™t they investigating the shooterโ€™s previous threats of violent attack against his school? They didnโ€™t stop him from buying a weapon afterward. Were they taking a summer vacation already?

 

They were probably too busy investigating everyday law-abiding conservatives or parents who attended school board meetings.

Last Monday, Senator Rogers released a statement calling out the Democrats for their abuse of power and failed attempt to expel her.

 

Rogers: In a 24 to 3 vote today, the Arizona State Senate passed a motion to launch an ethics investigation regarding a comment I made on social media. That motion only came after Senate Democrat Leadership revealed minutes before floor proceedings were to begin, that they were going to vote to expel me from office. Their motion to expel would have come without any sort of investigation or due process.

 

Sadly, my comment was taken completely out of context and became a false narrative thatโ€™s now the focal point of a firestorm created by certain race-obsessed members of the media. Unfortunately, our Democrat members of the Senate are now turning this issue into a political tool and are continuing to perpetuate this erroneous message in an effort to foment division within our party.

 

Let me be very clear: I do not condone violent crime or racism. My heart breaks for those who lost their lives as well as for their families in this weekendโ€™s shooting in Buffalo, New York. I pray justice is brought to the perpetrator. The person responsible for this heinous crime should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I denounce this tragic act as well as any and all other violent crimes that are spreading into communities across our country.

 

Iโ€™m grateful to our Republican Leadership Team for fighting to give me due process in this matter, and I am certain that once the facts have been analyzed, I will be vindicated.
