Fort Bragg is warning the public that suspicious looking military activity could erupt on private land across multiple North Carolina counties next month as part of a cryptic Special Forces training exercise.

This could include hearing explosions and seeing soldiers acting as ”guerrilla freedom fighters,” according to a release from the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg.

Exact times, locations and exercise specifics are not being publicized, officials said in the release.

β€œResidents may hear blank gunfire and see occasional flares … No real bombs will be used, but people in nearby areas may hear loud bangs that replicate the idea of a bomb,” officials told McClatchy News.

 

β€œControls are in place to ensure there is no risk to persons or property. Residents with concerns should contact local law enforcement officials, who will immediately contact exercise control officials,” a release said.

Known as Robin Sage training, the unconventional warfare exercises are like live-action role playing, with hostile engagement between Special Forces students, volunteer civilians and soldiers out of Fort Bragg.

The program dates back 60 years, officials said. But advance has became more critical after a soldier was killed and another was wounded in 2002 by a Moore County deputy who mistook Robin Sage for criminal activity.

The exercises will run March 6 through March 19, and students may pass through any one of 21 counties, including Wake County and Union County, according to a press release. The engagements will take place out of public view on private land, officials say.

The participants may be in civilian clothes, but will wear β€œa distinctive brown armband,” and all the active training areas will be β€œclearly labeled,” officials said.

β€œMilitary service members from units across Fort Bragg will also support the exercise. These military members act as realistic opposing forces and guerrilla freedom fighters,” the warfare center said.

β€œCandidates are placed in an environment of political instability characterized by armed conflict, forcing Soldiers to analyze and solve problems to meet the challenges of this β€˜real-world’ training.”

I've been to Southern Pines - cute little community. This comment seems interesting.

 

I live in Moore County, NC. Power out since about 9pm EST. The interesting thing is a drag show happened in downtown Southern Pines, at the Sunrise Theatre. It was initially for all ages (including kids), but numerous people rallied against it and they changed it to 18 , and also lost some sponsorship I believe for their show.

 

Last night, protesters both for and against the show had legal permits to protest in front of the venue. Lots of yelling, etc, but no violence. No antifa presence that one could see.

 

But the power went out and closed down the event towards the end of it. Now that this happened with the power, local leftists are posting all over social media that it was done by conservatives. People are trying to fan the flames.

 

Pray for us. People around here drive stupid as heck too. We are known for our car accidents, so this will just make it worse.

Chinese astronauts land back on Earth after six-month mission

 

Commander Chen Dong and astronauts Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe touched down in a capsule at a landing site in the Gobi Desert in northern China at around 12.10pm, according to China Central Television.

 

Before departing, the astronauts overlapped their stay with three other colleagues who arrived on the Shenzhou-15 mission earlier this week for their own six-month stay.

 

It marked the first time China has had six astronauts in space at the same time.

 

Medical workers carried the astronauts out of the capsule around 40 minutes after landing, and they appeared in high spirits as they waved happily at workers at the landing site.

 

Mr Chen, who was first to exit the capsule, said: "I am very fortunate to have witnessed the completion of the basic structure of the Chinese space station after six busy and fulfilling months in space.

 

"Like meteors, we returned to the embrace of the motherland."

 

Another of the astronauts, Ms Liu, recalled how moved she was to see relatives and colleagues.

 

The three astronauts have been part of the Shenzhou-14 mission, which launched in June.

 

During their time at Tiangong, the astronauts oversaw five rendezvous and dockings with various spacecraft, including one carrying the third of the station's three modules.

 

They also conducted a range of experiments, as well as performing three spacewalks.

 

Tiangong is part of China's plans for a permanent human presence in orbit and represents a significant milestone in the country's three-decades-long manned space programme, first approved in 1992.

 

Weighing around 66 tonnes without attached spacecraft, it could one day be the only space station still up and running if the ISS retires by around the end of the decade as expected.

Was an attack last April on an electric power station near San Jose, Calif., the work of vandals or something far more dangerous β€” domestic terrorism or a trial run by an individual or organization bent on damaging the nation's electric grid?

 

The Wall Street Journal, picking up from an earlier report by Foreign Policy magazine, explores that question Wednesday in a long account about what happened at PG&E Corp.'s Metcalf transmission substation β€” an event that has received relatively little attention until now.

 

The top of the Journal's story grabs your attention:

 

"The attack began just before 1 a.m. on April 16 last year, when someone slipped into an underground vault not far from a busy freeway and cut telephone cables.

 

"Within half an hour, snipers opened fire on a nearby electrical substation. Shooting for 19 minutes, they surgically knocked out 17 giant transformers that funnel power to Silicon Valley. A minute before a police car arrived, the shooters disappeared into the night.

 

"To avoid a blackout, electric-grid officials rerouted power around the site and asked power plants in Silicon Valley to produce more electricity. But it took utility workers 27 days to make repairs and bring the substation back to life."

 

According to Foreign Policy, which was less definitive about whether the attack was the work of more than one person, at least 100 rounds were fired from at least one high-powered rifle.

 

No one has been arrested in connection with the attack.

 

An FBI spokesman, without going into details, tells the Journal that the agency does not believe a terrorist organization was responsible.

 

But, as Foreign Policy reported, a former PG&E vice president for transmission operations said at a conference last November that "these were not amateurs taking potshots."

 

"My personal view is that this was a dress rehearsal" for future attacks, added Mark Johnson, the former PG&E executive, according to Foreign Policy.

 

The Journal quotes Jon Wellinghoff β€” chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission at the time of the attack β€” as saying it was "the most significant incident of domestic terrorism involving the grid that has ever occurred" in the U.S.

 

Whether it was or wasn't an act of terrorism, the Journal says that "as word of the attack spread through the utility industry, some companies moved swiftly to review their security efforts. 'We're looking at things differently now,' said Michele Campanella, an FBI veteran who is director of security for Consolidated Edison Inc. in New York. For example, she said, Con Ed changed the angles of some of its 1,200 security cameras 'so we don't have any blind spots.' "

 

AT&T has offered a $250,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the damage done to its cables near the substation.

 

Meanwhile, there's another mysterious detail to report. According to the San Jose Mercury News, about 3:00 one morning a month after the attack, "a man dressed in all black was spotted … in a field next to the property, setting off a large search by the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. … Sheriff's deputies searched the area but did not locate the man."

It was hyped as a big revelation, proof of a political conspiracy. Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk gave journalist Matt Taibbi access to some of Twitter’s internal communications from before he took over, saying they would show β€œwhat really happened with the Hunter Biden story suppression,” referring to an October 2020 New York Post article about a laptop allegedly belonging to then presidential candidate Joe Biden’s son. Musk promised it’d be β€œawesome.” Conservative media figures, Elon Musk fans, and Biden opponents were excited.

In advance of the release, MIT computer scientist and Musk booster Lex Fridman called it β€œhistoric,” and claimed it will β€œstrengthen our democracy” because β€œtransparency helps keep people honest and minimize undue influence from politics and money.”

Selectively releasing internal information without external oversight is not transparency, especially not when attempting to support a preconceived narrative. The public knows this is a fraction of Twitter’s internal documentation, but doesn’t know what they chose to hold back, and for what purpose. Taibbi said he β€œhad to agree to certain conditions” to review what Musk showed him, but didn’t say what those were.

The release was a marketing gimmick. The inaccurate claim of transparency is another.

But that doesn’t mean the information is devoid of value. No one who appears in the released communications is disputing their accuracy, so with proper caveats, we can learn things from them.

Anyone looking for more insight into how Twitter, and social media companies in general, deal with content moderation might learn something. Anyone looking for proof of a political conspiracy will find that even this information, selectively released by people trying to make it look like a big scandal, showed that it wasn’t.

It is absolutely outrageous for a scientific report to be censored as a consequence of backward religious pressures.

If we cannot work towards normalizing sex-positive messages about masturbation to reduce associated feelings of shame, guilt and fear, as well as improve the overall sexual health and literacy in children, this will undoubtedly negatively impact their physical and mental well-being in the long term.

I had a crazy experience involving "Columbia". I took a trip in 2015 (7 years ago). Started on 10/24/2015. As I was leaving town I picked up a magazine at a garage sale. It was a magazine commemorating the "Columbia disaster". Columbia is also a place name and refers to DC, of course. As I was actually leaving town getting on the highway I "heard". "How long until the end of Columbia?" 100 days was the answer. I did not know that 100 days from 10/24 is the date the shuttle Columbia blew up years ago. Now here we are.
