Antifa Aims To Disrupt Florida Rally Opposing The Sexualization Of Children

 

A rally organized to out activism that encourages children to question their gender identity and sexual orientation has inspired fury.

 

Now, threats of a rage-filled counter-protest have rally organizers requesting law enforcement officers to attend their planned gathering on Dec. 3 at a beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

 

Conflict bubbled up after three very different groups organized the Protect the Children rally to display solidarity against policies aimed at sexualizing children, alienating them from their parents, and helping them pursue gender-transition treatment. They plan to gather at Fort Lauderdale Beach on the corner of Las Olas Boulevard at 11 a.m.

 

Local chapters of Moms for Liberty, Fathers for Freedom, and Gays Against Groomers wanted to come together to peacefully speak against β€œradicalized sexual curriculum, gender ideology, child grooming, parental alienation, and β€˜gender-affirming care,'” said Eulalia Jimenez, president of the Moms for Liberty Miami chapter.

 

But when Antifa members heard of the gathering, they urged their peers in Twitter posts to β€œconfront this hatred” and β€œprotest against hate.” They referred to Protect the Children rally organizers as β€œfascists” proliferating β€œstochastic terrorism,” and spread fliers that read, β€œWe can’t allow this kind of bigotry to go unchecked.”

 

The term β€œstochastic terrorism” refers to public demonization through so-called β€œhate speech,” which some say can be used to incite violence against a person or group.

Washington, DC, May 5, 2006 - Many U.S. government officials and scientists disagreed with the findings of a presidential panel that the double flash signal picked up by a U.S. nuclear detonation detection satellite (Vela 6911) in late September 1979 was possibly not a nuclear test, according to a number of studies posted today by the National Security Archive.

 

The signal appeared to come from a 3,000 mile area that included the South Atlantic, Indian Ocean, tip of Africa, and part of Antarctica. A presidential panel concluded in May 1980 that the signal was more likely an artifact of a meteoroid hitting the satellite and sunlight reflecting off particles ejected as a result of the collision.

 

In addition to the report of the presidential panel, the posting includes reports produced by the DCI's Nuclear Intelligence Panel (completely redacted), and scientists and analysts at Los Alamos, SRI International, Sandia, the Intelligence Community, the Defense Intelligence Agency, Mission Research Corporation, and the Aerospace Corporation. That film, Powers of Ten, originally created in the 1960s, has been officially posted to YouTube and embedded here. From a picnic blanket near Chicago out past the Virgo Cluster of Galaxies, every ten seconds the film zooms out to show a square a factor of ten times larger on each side. The 9-minute video then reverses, zooming back in a factor of ten every two seconds and ends up inside a single proton. The Powers of Ten sequence is actually based on the book Cosmic View by Kees Boeke in 1957, as is a similar but mostly animated film Cosmic Zoom that was also created in the late 1960s. The changing perspectives are so enthralling and educational that sections have been recreated using more modern computerized techniques, including the first few minutes of the movie Contact. Despite the tensions in the world and the economic threats, some profoundly hopeful notes were sounded from the halls of the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Tianjin this week, particularly among the social entrepreneurs in attendance. More than ever before, we have been integrated into the fabric of the discussions and the infrastructure of the sessions. This level of integration reflects a new level of recognition for the social sector. As the field matures, we need to initiate a dialogue about the definitional focus of the term β€œsocial entrepreneur.”

 

For decades the field has focused on start-up phase entrepreneurs. Most of the awards and media attention are directed to the newest enterprises. For a long time this made sense because, frankly, that was all there was. But our focus on start-ups eliminates two important categories that are critical to the evolution of the field – and to reaching our broader goals:

 

  1. Second stage social entrepreneurs. The early pioneers are evolving into new roles. In some cases they are building new enterprises, in others they are pioneering new revenue strategies, or stepping into academic roles. The social sector needs to expand its focus to elevate the role of this critical group of social innovators for two reasons: First – these are the people who were establishing the leading innovations when the field was new and are most likely to bring wisdom and experience to the new frontiers. Secondly, by focusing on the newest models so exclusively, we fail to assist people who are navigating the issues that confront more mature organizations, including sustainability and succession planning. These issues will make or break institutions at precisely the point when they are reaching the scale necessary to contribute significantly to social change.

 

  1. Social innovators who sit at the helm of large institutions. There is also a new β€” but still too rare β€” breed of leaders who have taken the helm of large existing institutions and yet remain committed to social innovation. This is a critical group of people who can determine whether social sector organizations attain their full impact. My organization, First Book, provides a great example of this dynamic. Our efforts to elevate the number and quality of books and resources available to classrooms serving children in need will never reach significant impact levels without innovators at the helm of teacher organizations. In partnership with innovators like Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers, First Book will reach millions of children. Our failure to recognize people of her caliber, and include them in our community will necessarily limit the scale of our impact.

 

So consider this a shout out for a bigger tent approach to the question of β€˜who is a social entrepreneur?’

More than 40,000 homes and businesses are without power

 

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields reports that the mass power outage across the county is being investigated as a criminal occurrence.

 

Just after 7 pm on Saturday evening, December 3, 2022, several different communities across Moore County began experiencing power outages.

 

As utility companies began responding to the different substations, evidence β€” including gunfire β€” was discovered that indicated that intentional vandalism had occurred at multiple sites.

 

β€œ[We] have formed a plan for the night and the next few nights that we may be out of power. It’s a very serious situation,” said Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields. β€œSo we’ve come to an agreement to best protect our citizens and to protect the businesses of our county, we’re going to implement a curfew tonight.”

 

 

Moore County is under a curfew from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. local time.

 

Moore County Sheriff’s Deputies and various other law enforcement agencies within the county responded to the different areas and are providing further site security. The FBI is also involved in the investigation.

Rhonda "Randi" Weingarten was born in 1957 in New York City, to a Jewish family, Gabriel and Edith (Appelbaum) Weingarten. In April 2022, when the Twitter acquisition was set in motion, Musk, too, attacked Gadde for her "left-wing bias" and for blocking certain personalities on the platform.

 

So, who is Vijaya Gadde? What is her connection with India? And what are the controversies she was mired in during her considerably long Twitter stint?

 

Gadde was born to a Telugu family in Hyderabad, India, in 1974.She, however, hadn't met her father until the age of three, when she moved to Texas, United States. In an interview with Fortune in 2014,Gadde recalled that her father was a poor graduate student in Americaback then and couldn't support his family.

 

Gadde grew up in a small town in Texas, where there were only a handful of Indians;racism was rampant and the Ku Klux Klan had a significant local presence."You don't realize it (KKK's presence) when you're a child," she told Fortune, adding that her father needed their permission to sell insurance. Gadde later realised that this wasn't right and decided to become a lawyer to fight racism.

 

She completed her bachelor's degree in science in industrial and labour relations from Cornell University in New York and went to New York University to study law. Gadde also worked as a senior director in the legal department of Juniper Networks.

 

In 2011, she joined Twitter, and her key responsibilities included dealing with tweets that involved fake news and harassment.

 

Gadde is married to Ramsey Homsany, a lawyer and tech executive, and they have two children. The couple generally keeps their private life away from public eye.

 

A glance through her tweets is all it takes to know that she strongly identifies as a South Asian woman, who stays true to her Telugu-Hindu roots by celebrating festivals like Vinayaka Chaturthi and Deepavali. In a tweet, she also shared fond memories of her summer vacations in India as a child, when she would complain that she could only take one suitcase of books from the library.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Juniper Networks Inc said late on Friday it would stop using a piece of security code that analysts believe was developed by the National Security Agency in order to eavesdrop through technology products.

The Silicon Valley maker of networking gear said it would ship new versions of security software in the first half of this year to replace those that rely on numbers generated by Dual Elliptic Curve technology.

The statement on a blog post came a day after the presentation at a Stanford University conference of research by a team of cryptographers who found that Juniper’s code had been changed in multiple ways during 2008 to enable eavesdropping on virtual private network sessions by customers.

Last month, Sunnyvale-based Juniper said it had found and replaced two unauthorized pieces of code that allowed β€œback door” access, which the researchers said had appeared in 2012 and 2014.

The 2014 back door was straightforward, said researcher Hovav Shacham of the University of California, San Diego, allowing anyone with the right password to see everything.

The 2012 code changed a mathematical constant in Juniper’s Netscreen products that should have allowed its author to eavesdrop, according to Shacham and his fellow investigators.

Juniper’s initial patch had gotten rid of that constant in Dual Elliptic Curve and replaced it with the version it had been using since 2008.

But the academics who studied the code said that while Juniper had not disavowed the 2008 code, it had not explained how that constant was picked or why it was using the widely faulted Dual Elliptic Curve at all.

Still another curve constant, quietly provided by the NSA and required for some federal certification, was exposed in documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden as a key to the back door.

Until now, the most influential adopter of Dual Elliptic Curve was believed to be RSA, part of storage company EMC, which Reuters reported received a $10-million federal contract to distribute it in a software kit for others.

Though the academic team looking at Juniper has not named a suspect in the 2008, 2012 or 2014 changes, 2008 was one year after veteran cryptographers raised questions about Dual Elliptic Curve.

A very advanced adversary could have seen how to manipulate Dual EC and in theory managed to insert code through a cooperative or unsuspecting Juniper employee, but the company had not advertised the fact that it was using the formula at all.

A more logical suspect, said expert Nicholas Weaver of the International Computer Science Institute, was the NSA, which might have been displaced later by other countries’ agencies or top-level hackers in 2012 and 2014.

The NSA did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

Two security flaws that lay undiscovered in Juniper Networks’ widely used corporate virtual private network (VPN) software for three years could have exposed sensitive informative to foreign governments or criminal groups, researchers have said.

 

The vulnerabilities were in the form of β€œunauthorised code” discovered during a recent internal code review and announced on 17 December. One of the flaws could have allowed hackers to decrypt information passing through Juniper’s devices, including equipment for a secure network used by companies internally.

 

β€œWhoever planted it would have access to all the VPN traffic,” said Seth Rosenblatt, managing editor of the security and privacy site the Parallax. β€œData that the VPN user thought was protected from prying eyes may have been spied on.”

 

The FBI is reportedly investigating the breach, which could be the work of a foreign government, though the investigation is ongoing.

 

German security researcher Ralf-Philipp Weinmann suggested the hack took advantage of weaknesses in the password encryption algorithm β€œDual_EC” that were reportedly engineered by the NSA, which then promoted the tool as a standard.

β€œJuniper discovered unauthorized code in ScreenOS that could allow a knowledgeable attacker to gain administrative access to NetScreen devices and to decrypt VPN connections,” said Bob Worrall, SVP and chief information officer at Juniper Networks.

 

β€œOnce we identified these vulnerabilities, we launched an investigation into the matter, and worked to develop and issue patched releases for the latest versions of ScreenOS. At this time, we have not received any reports of these vulnerabilities being exploited; however, we strongly recommend that customers update their systems and apply the patched releases with the highest priority.”

 

It is unknown how Juniper’s source code was altered, and whether it was the work of an external source or someone within the company.

 

Juniper, based in Sunnyvale, California, issued an advisory notice on 21 December, notifying users of ScreenOS 6.3.0r17 through 6.3.0r20 which is part of the software for its firewall and VPN devices. No other versions of the product are known to be affected.

 

Those who were affected will potentially see an entry in the log file suggesting that β€œsystem” had logged in, followed by a password authentication, though a skilled hacker would probably be able to remove all traces of a login. Given the sophisticated nature of the hack, and how long it was able to remain undetected, Juniper notes that there is β€œno way to detect that this vulnerability was exploited”.

 

Juniper’s clients include the US government, including the Defense Department, Justice Department, and Treasury Department – as well as the FBI.

I think that periods of time in childhood that I spent without television helped my mind a lot. I spent over a year virtually without a computer and rare use of screens.
