The Soros Files Brazil: Barack Obama, PetroBras and the Biggest Corruption Scandal in Brazil’s History

 

Brazilian President-Select Lula has nominated the head of the Open Society Foundations Latin America as part of his transition team. George Soros has been heavily invested in Brazil ever since buying into criminally corrupt state-owned oil giant Petrobras in 2008, which was subsequently involved in the biggest corruption scandal in Brazilian history.

 

On November 16, purported Vice-President Gerald Alckimin announced that Pedro Abramovay would be a member of purported President-elect Luiz InΓ‘cio Lula da Silva’s transition team. Abramovay has been executive director of the Open Society Foundations in Latin America and the Caribbean since 2013. During Lula’s first reign 2003 to 2011, Abramovay was an adviser to Minister of Justice MΓ‘rcio Thomaz Bastos, who served 2003 to 2007 and died 2014

 

As Minister of Justice, Thomaz Bastos helped Lula pack the Supreme Court with many of the far-left Justices that today stand accused of state capture and whitewashing election fraud. As a lawyer, he defended several companies involved in Brazil’s massive corruption scandal known as β€œCar Wash” (Lava Jato) and is accused of money laundering going back before 2007, Antagonista reported 2018. Thomaz Bastos died with a fortune estimated at R$393 million (US $73 million), not bad for a lawyer.

 

In August 2008, George Soros’ Quantum Fund invested $811 million in Petroleo Brasileiro (PetroBras), β€œmaking the Brazilian state-controlled oil company his investment fund’s largest holding” at 22% of Quantum’s holdings at the time, Bloomberg reported.

 

By a lucky coincidence, the Obama administration soon thereafter began funding offshore drilling in Brazil. In August 2009, the U.S. Export-Import Bank announced it was loaning PetroBras $2 billion β€œto finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil’s Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro”, the Wall Street Journal reported.

 

Soon after, President Barack Obama announced a ban on offshore drilling in the USA in December of 2010 and ended oil tax breaks for US companies in January 2011. Obama β€œwas declared in contempt of court for defying a federal judge who ordered the moratoriums reversed. Some wondered if the president wasn’t intentionally acting against U.S. interests,” Business Daily wrote.

 

The massive influx of cash allowed PetrobBras to sell $70 billion in new stock, the largest stock issue in history, for what Reuters called β€œthe world’s biggest oil exploration program” for the Tupi oil field, discovered in 2007, which was renamed β€œLula” (squid).

 

In 2014, a massive government scheme to defraud Petrobras was revealed, the largest corruption scandal in Brazilian history, β€œCar Wash”. β€œBy March 2015 federal prosecutors had formally accused 110 people of corruption, money laundering, and other financial crimes. In April Petrobras … announced that the company had lost $17 billion to mismanagement and graft”, according to Encyclopedia Britannica.

 

On March 4, 2016, former President Lula da Silva’s home was raided by police, and he was charged with money laundering. Lula’s successor as President Dilma Roussef tried to make him her Chief of Staff, to grant him immunity against prosecution, but on March 13, 2016, over a million Brazilians protested, calling for Roussef’s impeachment. On April 17, over two-thirds of the Deputies, including her former allies, voted to impeach Roussef.

 

Lula was considered the mastermind of the scandal and was charged with accepting bribes worth $1.1 million. His wife died in February 2016 of a stroke, In July, Lula was convicted of fraud and money laundering, and sentenced to 10 years in prison, later increased to 12. Lula should be ineligible to run for President as a convicted criminal, but the pro-Lula Supreme Court vacated the charges in 2021 in a transparent move to install their candidate and ally.

Everyone knows that 2020 & 2022 were stolen. Kari Lake is pushing back to try and fix 2022, but it ain't gonna happen. No No No! You see, the fraud from 2020 was never fixed for a reason. In fact, it was just carried over and executed again in 2022, but there were more important eyes watching in 2022 than even in 2020. So why nothing done? It's about the long game here. When this Bronfman case is taken up by SCOTUS, they will find a way to punt the ball. Essentially, they will possibly allude to actual fraud, but, in the interest of "national security", they will say the Constitution provides no remedy to undo either 2020 or 2022. So why does this matter? Well, it's all about 2024. The White Hats have set an elaborate trap. Yes, they know about the 2020 and 2022 frauds, they were watching, but they are not going to unload what they know just yet. Why? A couple of reasons maybe… one, it's an elaborate trap and they know they are actually in control (not sure on the second part). Two… they are unwilling to compromise national security just to flip some pol seats that ultimately must not matter. Maybe they've looked in the Looking Glass, I don't know. Anywho, they are playing the long game and it's all about 2024. President Trump still mentions the fraud with scorn, but he is also most likely very aware of what's going on within the inner circle of white hats. By allowing the fraud to reoccur in 2022, the white hats have given the black hats leeway and comfort to do exactly the same thing in 2024. However, they will indeed execute their plan to catch the steal in real time, stop it, and, if necessary, put the mil in control to minimize chaos while everything gets sorted out. It's a long strategy, but, when the American public is exposed to pile upon pile of evidence of fraud, going back to at least 2020, there will be a new day dawning.

Socialists Step Down, Police Find Suitcase β€˜Full of Cash’, as EU Corruption Scandal Widens

 

A suitcase described as being β€œfull of cash” has been seized by police as part of an investigation into EU corruption, which has seen a number of socialist MEPs forced to step down from their positions

 

Police in Belgium have reportedly seized hundreds of thousands of Euro in cash as part of an ongoing investigation into a corruption scandal that is now plaguing the EU, with officers being said to have recovered a suitcase β€œfull of cash” as part of their investigation.

 

With the now-former Vice President of the European Parliament, Eva Kaili, said to have been put behind bars as part of the investigation, news of rampant corruption within the EU could not come at a worse time for Brussels, which has been actively trying to paint Hungary’s nationalist government as being a corrupt force that is trying to erode democracy.

 

Such a narrative has only become less and less convincing as time goes on, with Politico reporting that police have continued conducting raids on premises linked to various officials thought to be connected to criminality, which largely revolves around the alleged taking of bribes from a country widely said to be Islamist Qatar.

 

As part of such searches, €600,000 (~$630,000) from a private home, €150,000 (~$160,000) from Kaili’s apartment, and a suitcase in a Belgian hotel described as being β€œfilled with cash” have all been seized.

 

Meanwhile, the socialist group in the European Parliament has allegedly been forced to ask a number of its MEPs to step back from their positions in various bodies, with those linked to the corruption scandal within the bloc having been overwhelmingly left-wing so far.

 

The Socialists & Democrats group, which represents one of the largest within the European Parliament, has reportedly seen a number of MEPs either voluntarily step back or suspend themselves from the group, with one Belgian MEP, Marc Tarabella, reportedly stepping aside after his house was raided by police.

 

Overall, six people have reportedly been arrested as part of the investigation β€” two of whom were subsequently released β€” while 19 private homes have been searched for evidence.

 

In the wake of the revelation that corruption is rampant within the upper echelons of Brussels, many within the EU were keen to distance both themselves and the bloc as a whole from wrongdoing.

 

For example, the parliament’s president, Roberta Metsola has alleged that β€œEuropean Democracy is under attack” as a result of the revelations, with the bloc voting on Tuesday to dismiss Eva Kaili MEP from her position as vice president, despite the fact that the Greek politician denies being involved in bribery from Qatar.

 

However, none of these actions have saved the bloc from serious embarrassment, especially given its attacks on member state Hungary for corruption and accusing it of being being β€œno longer a democracyβ€œ.

 

With it now being revealed that the European Parliament itself has seemingly been harbouring serious corruption, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor OrbΓ‘n took to Twitter to openly mock the block for its repeated attacks on his country while hosting its own corruption.

Eighteen Years Ago: Journalist Gary Webb Was Murdered After Exposing CIA Drug Trafficking

 

On December 10, 2004, the body of journalist Gary Webb, 49, was discovered in his home near Sacramento after a moving company worker found a note posted to his front door that read: β€œPlease do not enter. Call 911 and ask for an ambulance.”

 

Webb’s death was listed as a suicide, but Webb was found with two bullet holes in the head, indicating that he was executed.[1]

 

In the days leading up to his death, Webb had told friends that he was receiving death threats, being regularly followed by what he thought were government agents, and that he was concerned about strange individuals who were seen breaking into and leaving his house.

 

In the late 1990s, Webb had written a series of stories for the San JosΓ© Mercury News, which provided the basis for his book, Dark Alliance: The CIA, the Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion (New York: Seven Stories Press, 1998).

 

In it, Webb detailed how the explosion of crack cocaine in South Central Los Angeles during the 1980s was sparked by two Nicaraguan Γ©migrΓ©s, Danilo BlandΓ³n and Norwin Meneses, who sold huge amounts of cocaine to raise funds for a CIA-backed rebel armyβ€”the Contras.

 

Webb was a Pulitzer Prize winner whose β€œDark Alliance” series went viral in the early days of the internet. It caused a firestorm that led to the resignation of CIA Director John Deutch after he was grilled by angry Black activists at a meeting in L.A.[2]

 

Webb’s story had traced how cocaine was shipped into San Francisco and distributed in L.A. after BlandΓ³n and Meneses sold it to a street dealer from South Central named β€œFreeway” Ricky Ross.

 

Through this connection, β€œFreeway Rick” became a crack kingpin, using his contacts with L.A.’s Crips and Blood street gangs to help distribute crack to many other cities across the country.

 

Webb had first heard about the story after receiving a tip from the girlfriend of a drug dealer against whom BlandΓ³n was testifying.

 

In his lead paragraph, Webb wrote that β€œa Bay Area drug ring had funneled millions in drug profits to a Latin American guerrilla army run by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency” which was in league with β€œUzi-toting β€˜gangstas’ of Compton and South-Central L.A.”

 

The thrust of Webb’s research was confirmed in 1998 when a CIA inspector general’s report acknowledged that the CIA had worked with suspected drugrunners while supporting the Contras in Nicaragua.[3]

 

The corruption Webb exposed led all the way to the White House and President Reagan via his aide, Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, who was coordinating, under Reagan’s orders, the illegal supplying to the Contras of weapons that were purchased with profits from the cocaine being smuggled into the U.S. and distributed around the country by criminals in league with the CIA.

 

Because of the far-reaching implications, Webb became the target of what Alexander Cockburn and Jeffrey St. Clair called β€œone of the most venomous and factually inane assaults on a professional journalist’s competence in living memory.”

He also shared a screenshot of part of the document.

 

Roth's thesis, written in 2016 while he was at the University of Pennsylvania, included the claim that many under-18s access gay hook-up app Grindr, despite being too young to do so.

 

He then suggested that an age-appropriate version of the app be created, to offer support to LGBT youth.

 

During his time at Twitter, Roth had huge sway in deciding which posts needed to be removed and accounts suspended.

This is a story about how the right twisted the sexual assault of a teenager into a culture war fantasy.It’s about how a distorted tale on a conservative website became grist for a nationwide moral panic.

On June 22, a middle-aged plumber named Scott Smith was dragged, lip bleeding and hands cuffed behind his back, from a raucous school board meeting in Loudoun County, Va. According to the local newspaper Loudoun Now, he’d been swearing loudly at another parent and leaning toward her with a clenched fist when the police tackled him and pulled him outside. He’d eventually be convicted of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and given a suspended 10-day jail sentence.

Smith’s image quickly went viral as a symbol of the sort of school board strife breaking out all over America. The National School Boards Association, writing to President Biden to request help dealing with the β€œgrowing number of threats of violence and acts of intimidation” directed at school board members, included Smith’s arrest in a list of examples.

Soon, however, Smith revealed why he’d been so distraught. In an interview with The Daily Wire, a website co-founded by the conservative wunderkind Ben Shapiro, Smith said that his ninth-grade daughter had been sexually assaulted in a school bathroom by a boy wearing a skirt. Smith was opposed to a proposed policy allowing trans kids to use bathrooms aligned with their gender identities, believing it made girls like his daughter vulnerable.

β€œThe point is kids are using it as an advantage to get into the bathrooms,” he told the reporter, Luke Rosiak

 

By the time Smith spoke to Rosiak, the story had become even uglier. In July, the boy was arrested in the attack on Smith’s daughter and charged with two counts of forcible sodomy. But pending a hearing, he was allowed to enroll at another high school while wearing an ankle monitor. In early October he was arrested again, this time for allegedly forcing a girl into an empty classroom and touching her inappropriately.

After Rosiak’s article came out, Smith became a symbol of a different kind: a blue-collar martyr to wokeness. Appearing on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show, Rosiak said, β€œThis story is one of the most disturbing I’ve ever worked on. It raises the possibility that the Loudoun County public schools covered up the rape of a 14-year-old girl at the hands of a boy wearing a skirt in order to pass a school policy that Democrats were adamant about passing.” As a result of that cover-up, Rosiak said, a second girl was allegedly attacked, β€œand to prevent all of this from coming out potentially, they arrested the father of the victim.”

Not surprisingly, the story ricocheted around the right. Conservatives have long argued that letting trans girls and women into women’s bathrooms would lead to sexual predation, and now that seemed to have happened. They’ve argued that wokeness is a form of tyranny, and in Smith they had a man who seemed to have been tyrannized because his family’s lived experience posed a threat to trans ideology.

If they had it all wrong, it’s almost hard to blame them β€” the narrative was too irresistible.

FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has arrived at court in The Bahamas flanked by his Stanford law professor parents and a police escort after being arrested on charges of fraud and money laundering.

Bankman-Fried is accused of defrauding investors out of $1.8billion by having them put their money on his crypto trading platform, FTX. The platform collapsed in November after Bankman-Fried filed for bankruptcy.

Federal prosecutors in New York and the SEC both say Bankman-Fried used the platform as a 'personal piggy bank' to fund a lavish lifestyle and make whopping political donations. He's been hit with eight counts of various fraud and money laundering charges and now faces 155 years in prison.

He maintains that he did nothing of the sort, and was going to tell Congress today that he could repay all of the people who have lost money 'tomorrow' if his assets were unfrozen, despite previously filing for bankruptcy.

Prosecutors in The Bahamas today argued that he should not be granted bail, insisting that he was a flight risk. He is in court currently in a blue and white shirt, and is not wearing handcuffs.

Combined, the criminal charges carry a maximum prison term of more than 150 years.

Bankman-Fried was due to give testimony today about his doomed platform before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services.

Forbes obtained a written copy of the testimony he was expected to give.

It began: 'I would like to start by formally stating under oath: I f****d up. I know that it doesn't mean much to say that I'm sorry. And so I'm dedicating as much of myself as I can to do the right thing by customers.

'When all is said and done, I'll judge myself primarily by one metric: whether I have eventually been able to make customers whole. If I fail our customers in this regard, I have failed myself.'

But over the next 18 pages, he blamed anti-Semitism, lawyers and even his own ex-girlfriend for the breakdown of his company.

He maintains that his business - at least the American branch of it - is still solvent.

'To the best of my knowledge, FTX US has been and remains solvent, and could pay all of its customers in full tomorrow.

'Unfortunately, the Chapter 11 team has frozen the FTX US exchange, blocking customers access to their account information and funds.

ONTARIO PASSES ANTI-PROTEST LAW BILL 100

 

The Bill enacts the Keeping Ontario Open for Business Act, 2022. The Act establishes prohibitions and enforcement mechanisms to prevent persons from impeding access to, egress from or ordinary use of protected transportation infrastructure. β€œProtected transportation infrastructure” is defined in section 1 as any land or water border crossing point between Ontario and the United States, any airport that regularly accommodates flights directly between Ontario and a country other than Canada that is prescribed by the regulations made under the Act, and any other transportation infrastructure that is of significance to international trade that is prescribed by the regulations made under the Act. Section 2 sets out the main prohibitions in the Act. Subsection 2 (1) prohibits persons from impeding access to or egress from, or the ordinary use of, protected transportation infrastructure, or from directly or indirectly causing such access, egress or ordinary use to be impeded, if the impediment has or is reasonably expected to have the effect of disrupting ordinary economic activity or interfering with the safety, health or well-being of members of the public. Subsection 2 (4) prohibits persons from knowingly aiding a person in doing something prohibited under subsection (1). Cambridge Dictionary is being criticized by conservatives on social media for altering the definitions of the words β€œman” and β€œwoman” to include people who identify as a gender other than their biological sex.

The definition of woman, which previously represented the longstanding view on sex, now states that a woman is β€œan adult who lives and identifies as female though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth.”

Similarly, a man is now defined as β€œan adult who lives and identifies as male though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth.”

This change was met with pushback from many, who argued that redefining society’s categorization of gender and sex is harmful and inaccurate.

β€œCambridge Dictionary just dropped a new definition of β€˜woman’,” Christopher Rufo, a fellow at the Manhattan Institute, tweeted.

Rufo also pointed out that the dictionary used the pronoun β€œthey” to describe the subject rather than β€œshe”.

β€œNotice that the dictionary writers say β€˜they may have been.’ They couldn’t bring themselves to write β€˜she may have been,’ because they know they’re lying. That’s the tell,” he tweeted.

β€œCeding linguistic territory to the radical Left. What could go wrong?” conservative commentator Rita Panahi wrote.

 

Daily Caller writer Mary Rooke wrote, β€œF-ing traitors to the truth. Cambridge Dictionary is only the latest. If we don’t stop them from erasing women our civilization is [not going to make it].”

Adam Brooks, a British social commentator, questioned whether women are happy with the change.

β€œOh wow, the @CambridgeWords dictionary definition of a woman is shocking, how did we get here? Surely women aren’t happy with this?” he wrote.

Dan McLaughin, a senior writer at National Review, argued the change is Orwellian. β€œ1984 wasn’t supposed to be a how-to manual,” he tweeted.

Parents told to scrub Snapchat from kids’ phones after Florida coach busted for paying for nude pictures

A Florida high school basketball coach and security guard has been arrested for allegedly paying young female students to send him explicit pictures on Snapchat.

Alton Edwards, 28, would allegedly pay his victims between $10 and $75 to send him the images after targeting them through social media, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office charged.

Sheriff William Snyder said his agency got an anonymous tip about Edwards’ scheme β€” and that they talked to seven teens who said they sent him nude pictures.

Snyder said parents need to be vigilant about the perils of online exploitation.

β€œGo to your child tonight and say, β€˜I want to look in your camera and look at every single app that can hide pictures,'” Snyder told WPTV. β€œIf your children have Snapchat, go home tonight and delete it.”

Edwards appeared to target vulnerable youngsters, Snyder said.

β€œIt looks like his major (modus operandi) would be to find the girls on Snapchat, take a look at their friends and then just start probing,” he told the station β€œReally, it’s grooming. He finds a child who might be more vulnerable and he gets them to send pictures of them unclothed and sends them cash.”

The department said it will work with Snapchat to recover the images.

According to Snyder, Edwards has apparently been paying for pictures for several years β€” but no one spoke up until this month.

The Martin County School District is urging parents to get in contact if they think their kids may have been victimized by Edwards.

Edwards was charged with seven counts of solicitation of a minor and was being held Sunday on $350,000 bail, the TC Palm reported.

Prominent DeSantis donor dies in apparent suicide during sexual misconduct probe

A prominent ally of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis with unprecedented access to local authorities and reportedly under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct has died in what is being investigated as a suicide.

 

Kent Stermon, 50, of Jacksonville, was found dead in a truck parked outside the Atlantic Beach post office around 8 p.m. Thursday, the Florida Times-Union reported.

Stermon had been reported missing by his wife, Christie, after his heart monitor stopped earlier that day, the First Coast News reported.

 

Shortly after the discovery of his body, police announced they were investigating his death as a suicide.

Stermon was under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct at the time of his death, law enforcement sources told the Times-Union.

Speaking to the outlet last week, Sheriff T.K. Waters of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Stermon was the subject of an β€œactive investigation” at the time of his death, but did not provide further details on the nature of the probe.

Stermon’s attorney, David Barksdale, did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Stermon loomed large in local Jacksonville politics, as a generous supporter of Mayor Lenny Curry and former Sheriff Mike Williams.

He had a swipe access card to the sheriff’s office headquarters and other locations, which he used hundreds of times over the last five years, news station WJXT reported.

A spokesperson from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office told First Coast News that Stermon’s card was rescinded when Waters took office in late November, and the mega-donor β€œhad been informed” of the decision.

The sheriff’s office and mayor’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The defense contractor behind Total Military Management, Stermon also sat on the state university system’s Board of Governors. Records show that he and his wife made frequent contributions to Florida GOP candidates, including a $50,000 gift to a political action committee tied to DeSantis.

On Friday, DeSantis’ office said the governor and his wife were β€œshocked and saddened to hear of Kent’s passing.” A spokesperson also told Politico that the couple were unaware of the investigation into Stermon’s behavior.

Stermon’s ties to the state’s top lawmaker go back several years. In 2018, Politico reported that the then-congressman stayed in a condo co-owned by Stermon after being exiled from his district by redistricting in 2016.

β€œYou wouldn’t have Ron DeSantis as governor without Kent Stermon,” Florida politics reporter A.G. Gancarski told First Coast News. β€œHe was big with everything … in the state party.”

In the wake of Stermon’s death, some law enforcement veterans questioned the ethics of his seemingly unchecked access to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

β€œIt was common knowledge to not only myself but to many employees that Mr. Stermon had high-level security access privileges to JSO facilities for years,” former sheriff’s office candidate Lakesha Burton told First Coast News.

β€œHe made his heavy involvement in the inner workings and politics of the agency well known to all ranks.”

β€œYou give that badge to the wrong person, and they’re connected to somebody out there who is doing the wrong thing, then you can walk in the building, do what you want to do and go back and give them information,” retired sheriff’s office detective Kim Varner concurred.

A huge fire broke out at a sprawling NYPD evidence and impound compound in Red Hook, Brooklyn, that local media said is used to store confiscated vehicles and large pieces of evidence.

An unassuming New Hampshire husband who runs an online craft shop with his wife has been charged over a conspiracy to supply Russia with high-tech equipment used in nuclear weapons development.

 

In an elaborate conspiracy likened to the plot of a TV spy drama, Alexey Brayman and his accomplices allegedly operated an international ring that smuggled sensitive technologies into Russia via Europe.

Brayman and his wife, Daria, share a quaint suburban home in Merrimack, New Hampshire, where they run an online craft store and night lights business.

That home is the clearing house where Brayman trafficked 'advanced electronics and sophisticated testing equipment used in quantum computing, hypersonic and nuclear weapons development and other military and space-based military applications', prosecutors allege.

The equipment 'could make a significant contribution to the military potential or nuclear proliferation of other nations or that could be detrimental to the… national security of the United States', it is claimed.

The case has come to light amid Russia's ongoing war with Ukraine - and growing concern in Moscow about its decreasing supplies of weapons and technology.

Sanctions on western electronics and technology by countries including America have made it increasingly difficult for Russia to source the equipment it needs for the war effort, which has killed thousands of civilians in Ukraine.

Details of the plot involving Brayman emerged in newly-unsealed court documents obtained by the Boston Globe.

The conspiracy is a world away from the Braymans' reputation locally as 'the nicest family', who enjoy ice skating, basketball games and local art festivals.

Indeed, pictures of the snow-dusted family home today show it's been decorated for the holidays with inflatables of Santa Claus, a snowman and a reindeer, along with a Christmas tree and fairy lights.

The equipment trafficked by Brayman - whose wife has not been charged - is said to include expensive semiconductors and other high-tech devices like oscilloscopes. This is considered 'dual-use' technology because it can be used in both civilian and military products.

Brayman received the equipment piecemeal from the co-conspirators whose tactics to conceal the conspiracy included using front companies headed by Russian businessmen, it is alleged.

 

He then sent on the technology to Germany and Estonia, which are described by authorities as 'common transshipment points for items ultimately destined for Russia'.

He is named in a 16-count indictment unsealed today, along with co-defendants Yevgeniy Grinin, Aleksey Ippolitov, Boris Livshits, Svetlana Skvortsova, Vadim Konoshchenok and Vadim Yermolenko.

Charges include conspiracy, money laundering, smuggling, and bank and wire fraud.

The charges follow a long-running investigation by authorities into the plot, which has been likened to The Americans, a TV drama about two Russia agents who pose as an American couple during the Cold War.

Konoshchenok has already been arrested in Estonia and Yermolenko was detained today in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. Brayman was expected to surrender today.

A federal magistrate approved a search of the Brayman's home in October. The raid was carried out by FBI counterintelligence agents who searched for devices including computers and cellphones.

President Biden wrongly claimed Tuesday that he lowered the national debt by $1.7 trillion β€” when in fact the debt grew by nearly $3.7 trillion during his first 23 months in office.

Biden made the error while using the terms β€œdeficit” and β€œdebt” interchangeably during remarks touting the slight decline in the annual inflation rate to 7.1% in November.

β€œWe’ve done all of this while lowering the federal deficit in the two years we’ve been in office $1.7 trillion,” Biden said before incorrectly adding, β€œLet me say that again β€” $1.7 trillion we’ve lowered the federal debt.”

The national debt was roughly $27.75 trillion when Biden took office, according to the Congressional Research Service. It is about $31.43 trillion today.

Biden regularly touts the fact that the national deficit is declining, though fact-checkers note that much of the reduction is due to the expiration of bipartisan COVID-19 pandemic relief programs approved in 2020, rather than Biden’s own actions.

β€œNo administration has ever cut the deficit that much,” Biden claimed Tuesday.

 

The federal deficit in fiscal year 2022, which ended Sept. 30, was the fourth-highest on record, according to the Treasury Department, with $1.38 trillion in federal spending beyond what authorities collected in revenue.

The US deficit topped out at $3.13 trillion in fiscal 2020 before declining to $2.77 trillion in fiscal 2021.

Last year, Biden signed a $1.9 trillion stimulus bill that passed without Republican support or revenue offsets. Opponents question the projected revenue to offset other large spending bills, including last year’s $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure law and this year’s $280 billion bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act, a $437 billion environmental and healthcare spending bill and a $270 billion veterans healthcare bill.

The findings, published in the journal Nature Cardiovascular Research, are in line with earlier reports from physicians that COVID may trigger POTS, a disorder of the autonomic nervous system often characterized by a rapid heart rate, low blood pressure, fainting and lightheadedness.

 

Research published Monday has confirmed a link between a COVID-19 infection and a debilitating heart condition called POTS, or postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, that has been diagnosed in some patients with long COVID.

 

Physicians often fail to recognize the condition, experts say, because it can be confused with a myriad of other health problems, including anxiety and dehydration. Many patients spend years trying to get properly diagnosed.

 

One of the earlier discoveries with long COVID was that it could be associated with POTS and this new research builds on that, said lead study author Dr. Alan Kwan, a cardiologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

 

POTS was also linked, to a lesser degree, to COVID-19 vaccination with an mRNA vaccine, according to the new study.

 

Researchers analyzed data on nearly 300,000 patients from the Cedars-Sinai Health System in Los Angeles County from 2020 to 2022 who had either received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine or had a confirmed case of COVID. The vast majority of the vaccinated people in the study got an mRNA vaccine β€” either from Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna. People with a confirmed case of COVID had not been vaccinated.

 

While the researchers found a small but increased risk of POTS following COVID vaccination and, in particular, the first dose, the risk was greater following a COVID infection itself: Getting COVID-19 was linked to a five times greater risk of POTS than vaccination.

 

β€œThe main message here is that while we see a potential link between COVID-19 vaccination and POTS, preventing COVID-19 through vaccination is still the best way to reduce your risk of developing POTS,” Kwan said.

 

He added the study has limitations, including that the results were based on patient data from a single health system. He also said that the link between POTS and COVID vaccination needs to be confirmed with further studies.

 

It’s unclear why the COVID vaccines would trigger the condition, Kwan said, but added that it could be related to the immune response generated by the shots.

 

Dr. Ofer Levy, the director of the Precision Vaccines Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, agreed.

 

He noted that Pfizer’s and Moderna’s vaccines have been linked to a small risk of myocarditis. That condition, he said, may also be related to the immune response generated by the shots. Still, the myocarditis risk is significantly higher after a COVID infection than after vaccination.

 

Researchers should further explore the immune response to shots, because β€œthe better we understand how the adverse events work, the smarter we can become in designing better vaccines in the future,” Levy said.

 

Other vaccines have also been linked to POTS in early accounts, but further research did not establish a causal link.

 

The HPV vaccine Gardasil, for example, was thought to cause POTS based on early reports, but subsequent reviews found that not to be the case, said Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious diseases expert at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, who was not involved with the new research.

 

The link between an infection β€” including COVID β€” and POTS, however, is more well-established.

 

β€œMany conditions can trigger POTS, including viral infections such as SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19,” Dr. Bala Munipalli, a physician who heads the Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID Clinic at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, said in an email.

 

POTS following other types of infection is not uncommon, Schaffner said. The condition has been linked to a number of viral or bacterial infections, including influenza, mononucleosis and Lyme disease.

 

Dr. Daniel Dudenkov, a physician at the Mayo Clinic, said that although COVID vaccines may be associated with POTS, it is important to keep in mind that COVID infection itself is much more likely to lead to POTS.

 

β€œVaccines continue to be an important strategy to fight against COVID and its effects,” he said.

 

Schaffner agreed, saying the event following vaccination is β€œrare.”

 

β€œThe risk of this happening is much greater with COVID than it is with the vaccine. So please get vaccinated,” he said.

The court filing of the SEC’s case against Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) was released this morning. Attached and below is the filing with some initial observations.

The complaint is 28 pages long.

 

Though it was clear that the company could not make its payments, executives at FTX took out millions in personal loans. The company was involved in a variety of activities as well, including β€˜yield farming.”

 

Bankman-Fried made numerous false claims that, even though he owned 90% of Alameda, he was not the ultimate decision-maker. In addition, FTX customer funds were comingled in Alameda, and the loan to Alameda was hidden on FTX’s balance sheet using an internal account labeled β€œfiat@FTX.com.”

 

(Hint: never comingle funds)

 

The auditors of FTX appear to have some serious problems. National accounting firms Armanino and Prager Metis failed to document the FTX multi-billion loans to Alameda in the audited financial statements. They also missed related party transactions with FTX Executives. Massive audit failure.

Also, according to Bishop, Bankman-Fried committed perjury in testifying to Congress that FTX had a risk engine that mitigated client exposure. Will he get charged with lying to Congress like Roger Stone and others?

 

SBF executed promissory notes of $1.3 billion while FTX Executives Singh and Wang borrowed $554 million and $224.7 million, respectively.

 

What is not in the SEC’s filing is the mention that SBF’s former girlfriend, Caroline Ellison, was the CEO of Alameda. Her father worked alongside SEC Chairman Gary Gensler at MIT for a period of time.

 

The filing also does not mention SBF’s parents, professors at Stanford Law, and any connections they have with the operation.

 

Most glaring is the omission of the amount of donations by FTX to corrupt politicians. We still have no idea how much money went to corrupt US politicians through FTX using cryptocurrencies.

German 'Cum-ex' Tax Fraud Kingpin Handed 8-year Jail Sentence

 

German tax lawyer, painted by politicians as the mastermind behind one of the country's biggest post-war frauds, was on Tuesday sentenced to eight years in prison after a landmark trial.

 

Hanno Berger, a 72-year-old former tax inspector turned prominent tax lawyer and adviser, is the most high profile professional to be convicted over the cum-ex dividend stripping scheme, that some German experts estimate has cost taxpayers around 10 billion euros ($10.54 billion).

 

After an eight-month trial Berger, who fled to Switzerland after his offices were raided in 2012 before being extradited back to Germany in February, was also ordered to repay more than 13 million euros.

 

Germany and Denmark are leading cross-border investigations into the trading scheme, which involved banks and investors claiming multiple bogus tax rebates on dividends, aided by now-closed loopholes in their tax systems and the failure of authorities to spot and halt the practice at the time.

 

Berger's sentence is the harshest handed down to date by German judges after around eight years of investigations that government officials say span around 1,500 suspects and 100 banks on four continents.

 

In closing remarks at the Bonn court last week, prosecutors accused Berger of orchestrating tax scams that siphoned 278 million euros from German taxpayers.

 

The lawyer had rejected accusations of tax fraud although he conceded he should have paid better heed to a 2009 finance ministry letter that expressed concerns about the "tax optimisation scheme". But he also insisted some transactions were legal at the time.

 

Gerhard Schick, a former German lawmaker who instigated a parliamentary investigation into cum-ex, welcomed the verdict and said a key figure in the scandal had been convicted.
