Chris Hipkins set to become New Zealand's 41st Prime Minister after Jacinda Ardern's shock resignation from top job

 

New Zealand is set to have a new prime minister as soon as Sunday, with the Labour Party revealing only one nomination following Jacinda Ardern's sudden resignation.

 

Chris Hipkins is set to become the 41st New Zealand Prime Minister after being named as the only nominee for the Labour Party leadership.

 

He was named unopposed by the caucus on Saturday morning following Jacinda Ardern's shock resignation announcement less than three days earlier.

 

Mr Hipkins, 44, is currently the Education and Police Minister and had also taken charge of the nation's COVID-19 response at the height of the pandemic.

 

The MP regularly fronted press conferences alongside Ms Ardern to provide daily updates at a time many residents have put behind them but not forgotten.

 

New Zealand was plunged into at times stricter lockdowns than Australia, which included take away shops not being able to operate, under his orders.

 

His decisions still stick in the mind of New Zealanders, but he has backing from the public according to polls, with residents instead during COVID turning their frustrations at Ms Ardern and Finance Minister Grant Robertson as inflation spiked.

 

Mr Hipkins, who was first elected into parliament in 2008 and from the right of the party, is seen as the safest choice to fill the role due to his experience.

 

Other than his portfolios of education and policing, he has also been public service minister and was leader of the house, which placed him in a strong position.

 

He will need to be formally endorsed by Labour as the party's new leader, and that is expected to happen on Sunday afternoon.

 

"The Labour Party caucus will meet at 1pm on Sunday to endorse the nomination and confirm Chris Hipkins as Party Leader," NZ Labour Whip Duncan Webb said.

ASIO spied on Pine Gap military base protesters in the 1980s, declassified documents reveal

 

Declassified ASIO files have revealed the national security agency planted spies among a group protesting against the Pine Gap military base in Alice Springs during the 1980s.

 

The 1987 documents, released last year by the National Archives of Australia, show intelligence about peace activists and their protest plans were being fed to ASIO's central office by one or more covert operatives who surreptitiously attended the group's meetings.

 

The peace movement had gained momentum in the political landscape during the Cold War era, as concerns ran high over the threat posed by the Soviet Union and the possibility of nuclear warfare.

 

Pine Gap, the top-secret defence facility that had begun operating during the previous decade on the outskirts of town, was feared to be a target due its strategic importance to the United States Department of Defense and the Australian government.

A Republican congressman has made a call for a firing squad to be used on two homosexual partners allegedly running a pedophilia ring, abusing their two adopted children.

Two LGBT activists and homosexual partners, William Dale Zulock and Zachary Jacoby Zulock, were charged with aggravated child molestation, sexual exploitation of children, and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

 

The two partners are accused of producing and distributing pornography with their two adopted children, who are now 9 and 11 years old.

 

The Zulocks “allegedly performed oral sex on both boys, forced the children to perform oral sex on them, and anally raped their sons,” Townhall’s Mia Cathell reported.

 

It is reported the gay couple would not only rape their prepubescent children, but also pimp them out to pedophiles in the Atlanta area.

 

Both suspects are facing more than nine life sentences and are still pleading not guilty.

 

Townhall reported:

 

“According to a copy of the 17-count indictment Townhall has obtained, the adoptive dads allegedly performed oral sex on both boys, forced the children to perform oral sex on them, and anally raped their sons. In at least one instance, the anal rape injured the older Zulock child, who just turned 11-years-old in mid-December. Court records indicate that the child sexual abuse stretches back to as early as late 2019 and intensified in January 2021, March 2021, and December 2021, as the offense dates are listed.”

Now, thanks to an investigation by Townhall, it has emerged that not only did the sick pair abuse the boys - they also stand accused of offering them up to other local men.

Hunter Clay Lawless, 27, and Luis Armando Vizcarro-Sanchez, 25, were taken into custody on charges of soliciting an act of prostitution with both boys in August, but their names are only now being made public.

It's unclear whether they ever met the boys or had any sexual interactions with them, but Lawless told police he was invited to the home 'multiple times' by Zachary Zulock, after meeting him through a friend on Grindr.

He was arrested after child porn investigators traced a large cache to his Gmail address.

Lawless told police Zulock contacted him through Snapchat, telling him he planned to 'f**k his son' that night, and warning him to expect videos of it.

Cops found photos and videos of Zachary Zulock raping the boy on Lawless' phone and computer, according to the arrest documents.

In one message, Zachary allegedly said: 'I'm going to f*ck my son tonight. Stand by.'

Vizcarro-Sanchez, the other local man, is also facing a string of unrelated child sex crimes.

Lawless lives with his mother and was shockingly released on a $25,000 bond after his August arrest.

Vizcarro-Sanchez is in custody on a range of charges. He is obsessed with anime and gaming, according to social media profiles, and stands accused of trying to coerce a 13-year-old relative into sex.

It remains unclear what led police to the Zulocks, but a family member spoke to Townhall about them at length. That relative said they had concerns about the company the pair kept, especially around the boys.

Before their August arrest, the pair lived a comfortable life in Atlanta thanks to Zachary's bank work.

They also told relatives how they were given money by the state to pay for the children.

The pair remain in custody awaiting their next court date.

Holmes was found guilty on four counts of lying to investors on Jan. 3, 2022. Shortly thereafter, federal prosecutors allege in the filing, Holmes bought a flight to Mexico departing Jan. 26, 2022 without a scheduled return trip. The U.S. government became aware of the booking on Jan. 23, 2022.

"Only after the government raised this unauthorized flight with defense counsel was the trip canceled," prosecutors say.

The Thursday filing came as part of the government’s opposition to Holmes’ motion for release from detention pending appeal of her sentencing; in November, a judge sentenced Holmes to more than 11 years in prison. U.S. District Court Judge Edward Davila ordered Holmes to surrender herself into custody by April 27. It has not yet been determined where she would serve her sentence, but Davila has recommended a minimum-security prison camp in Texas.

Holmes’ partner, William Evans, also bought a one-way ticket “and did not return until approximately six weeks later, returning from a different continent,” prosecutors said.

“The government anticipates (Holmes) will note in reply that she did not in fact leave the country as scheduled—but it is difficult to know with certainty what (Holmes) would have done had the government not intervened,” prosecutors said.

Prosecutors also allege Holmes maintains access to vast financial resources.

“(Holmes) has lived on an estate for over a year where, based upon the monthly cash flow statement (Holmes) provided to the U.S. Probation Office, monthly expenses exceed $13,000 per month,” they write.

They further note that a judge has found that Holmes “never fully appreciated that [s]he would be incarcerated” based on “ill-founded hopes that the Court would give [her] a probationary sentence.” Additionally, Holmes has not “demonstrated . . . in [her] words or manner, a genuine acceptance that [s]he stole a significant amount of money from [investors] by lying and falsifying documents,” the prosecutors say.

They thus vehemently object to any release.

“At the same time when her incentive to flee has never been higher, (Holmes) has requested the Court ease the restrictions on her travel, permitting her to travel outside of the Northern District of California and perhaps out of the state altogether ‘due to her significant other’s employment.’”

The U.S. has maintained bilateral extradition treaties with Mexico dating back to the 19th century — perhaps contrary to belief that crossing the southern border guarantees freedom. Since 2005, Mexico has deported between 150 and 200 fugitives to face charges in the U.S., according to the U.S. State Department.

In one prominent example, Wanda Lee Ann Podgurski, convicted of disability and insurance fraud in 2013, was apprehended in Mexico six months after an account in her name tweeted, “Catch me if you can.”

The U.S. Marshals service is the primary agency designated for tracking fugitives. In addition to maintaining an office in Mexico, the USMS works closely with law enforcement agencies along the borders of Mexico and Canada and with the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service.

Three senators met with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday, pledging more military and economic assistance to the besieged nation.

Spacewalkers Wrap Up First Spacewalk of 2023

NASA astronaut Nicole Mann and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Koichi Wakata concluded their spacewalk at 3:35 p.m. EST after 7 hours and 21 minutes.

 

Mann and Wakata completed work left over from a previous spacewalk for a platform on which a set of International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Arrays (iROSAs) for the station’s 1B power channel will be installed later this year, as well as most of the work to install a similar mounting platform for a set of iROSAs for the 1A power channel. Due to time constraints, plans to bolt a final strut for the second platform were deferred until a future spacewalk. There is no impact to station operations.

 

The installation is part of a series of spacewalks to augment the International Space Station’s power channels with new iROSAs. Four iROSAs have been installed so far, and two more will be mounted to the platforms installed during this spacewalk in the future.

 

It was the 258th spacewalk in support of space station assembly, upgrades, and maintenance, the first spacewalk of 2023, and the first spacewalk for both astronauts.

 

Mann and Wakata are in the midst of a planned six-month science mission living and working aboard the microgravity laboratory to advance scientific knowledge and demonstrate new technologies for future human and robotic exploration missions, including lunar missions through NASA’s Artemis program.

US Navy SEAL killed in Ukraine

The US Navy confirmed on Friday that a member of its elite SEAL force was killed in eastern Ukraine, but said that Naval Special Warfare Operator Daniel Swift was in “active deserter status.”

I like to creep around my home and act like a goblin

 

I don’t know why but I just enjoy doing this. Maybe it’s my way of dealing with stress or something but I just do it about once every week. Generally I’ll carry around a sack and creep around in a sort of crouch-walking position making goblin noises, then I’ll walk around my house and pick up various different “trinkets” and put them in my bag while saying stuff like “I’ll be having that” and laughing maniacally in my goblin voice (“trinkets” can include anything from shit I find on the ground to cutlery or other utensils). The other day I was talking with my neighbours and they mentioned hearing weird noises like what I wrote about and I was just internally screaming the entire conversation. I’m 99% sure they don’t know it’s me but god that 1% chance is seriously weighing on my mind.

Lindsey Graham Calls for Tanks for Ukraine: ‘World Order Is at Stake’

 

Sen. Lindsey Grahm (R-SC) in Ukraine on Friday called for more military aid to Ukraine, charging that the “world order is at stake.”

 

Graham said, “We will continue to ask the American people and the congress to send aid to Ukraine, economic aid and military aid to accomplish the objective of driving the Russian invader out of Ukraine.”

Breitbart News’s Kristina Wong reported that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the U.S. will support Ukraine “for as long as it takes” after the Biden administration just announced another multibillion-dollar aid package to the country. ast Friday night, I attended as a journalist an all-night evangelical prayer service in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The event lasted from 10 p.m. on Friday night and ended at 5 a.m. on Saturday morning. Attending the event proved very useful to my study of religions in Côte d’Ivoire. It illustrated for me that evangelicals are flourishing in large part because they cleave to a traditional, Biblical Christian spirituality that the Catholic Church under Pope Francis has abandoned. To put it as simply as possible, the evangelicals are more Catholic than the Catholics.

 

The fervor I saw on display at it was staggering. Unlike equivocating Catholic bishops, whose lackluster liturgies define the archdiocese of Abidjan, there is no question that the evangelicals believe passionately in the divinity of Jesus Christ. To them, he is exactly what the Nicene Creed says: God from God, light from light, true God from true God.

 

In truth, loud church events usually annoy me. But this one passed quickly and provided me with a clear picture of why evangelicals and other Protestants, which have eclipsed the Church in numbers, are eating the Catholic Church’s lunch in the country. As Jesus Christ told the first bishops, human beings want bread, not stones.

You mean like in Florida, where our second amendment is violated daily? Open carry is illegal there unless hunting or fishing, and even then cops regularly hold people at gunpoint for openly carrying while fishing?

 

How about the legally blind man who was stopped because the cop claiming his folding cane was a gun, then was unlawfully detained and searched AFTER he showed her what it was? Then when he asked for their badge numbers, he was arrested for "interference" under Florida 843.02, which is unconstitutional according to City of Houston v Hill (1987).

 

They're violating the law daily in red states too.

Not possible. How can a 'good cop' coexist with a 'bad cop'? Either he allows and ignores that behavior or he is completely unaware of it. In either case he is neither good morally or at his profession.
