UK nuclear sub reactor repaired with super glue – media

The botched job reportedly sparked an urgent investigation as defense chiefs demanded assurances about future work

UK Defence Minister Ben Wallace has reportedly called for an urgent investigation after The Sun revealed that a routine inspection of one of Britain’s Trident nuclear submarines found evidence of bizarrely botched repair work.

According to a detailed report by the outlet, workers allegedly used super glue to fix a number of broken bolt heads used to hold together cooling pipes in the nuclear reactor of the HMS Vanguard.

Engineers from defense contractor Babcock appear to have originally damaged the bolts, but instead of replacing the them, they simply glued the heads back on.

The Sun details that at least seven bolts, all of which heldinsulation in place on coolant pipes which prevent reactor meltdown, were treated this way.

The potentially catastrophic repairs were only noticed earlier this month when one of thebolts fell apart during a routine checkahead of a scheduled first firing of the reactor at maximum power.

The incident reportedly sparked outrage among defense officials. Wallace has demanded a meeting and “assurances about future work,” The Sun reported.

A Navy source told the outlet that he was furious that Babcock had failed to inform defense officials about the botched repairs. “It’s a disgrace. You can’t cut corners with nuclear. Standards are standards. Nuclear standards are never compromised,” he told The Sun.

Repair work aboard the HMS Vanguard is being done as part of dry dock refurbishment at HMNB Devonport in Plymouth, which is alreadyfour years behind schedule and around £300 million ($370 million) over budget.

USCP: The United States Capitol Police (USCP) caught a suspected police impersonator with a stash of knives on Monday after receiving a tip from the United States Secret Service (USSS).

2) USCP: At approximately 6:20 p.m., an officer with the USCP’s Bicycle Response Team noticed a man, who was wanted for questioning by the U.S. Secret Service, near the corner of Third Street and Madison Drive, NW.

Japan and NATO agree to deepen partnership, saying rules-based order ‘at stake’

Japan and NATO have agreed to further deepen their partnership, arguing Tuesday that the international community is “facing changes defining an era,” as the military alliance seeks more support for Ukraine and Tokyo looks for like-minded partners to tackle the growing military challenges posed by China and North Korea.

In a joint statement, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg warned that the free and open rules-based international order is at stake amid changes in the power balance and intensifying geopolitical competition.

“The world is at a historical inflection point in the most severe and complex security environment since the end of World War II,” the two leaders said, emphasizing the need to strengthen cooperation as the security of Europe, the United States and Asia is “closely connected.”

The two sides said they welcomed progress toward Japan transitioning into NATO’s new Individually Tailored Partnership Program, which is expected to elevate bilateral cooperation “to new heights that reflect the challenges of a new era.”

Plans to upgrade the relationship were first broached last June, when Kishida became the first Japanese leader to attend a NATO summit. The ITPP provides an updated framework that is individually tailored to each partner’s objectives for its relationship with the alliance.

During their meeting, Kishida and Stoltenberg also reaffirmed the importance of cooperating in domains such as cyberspace, outer space, disinformation and strategic communications, countering hybrid challenges and critical and emerging technologies.

Stoltenberg, who visited Iruma Air Base before meeting Kishida, also welcomed Japan’s intention to participate in the North Atlantic Council and the NATO Chiefs of Defense meetings on a regular basis.

“We are convinced that the Japan-NATO cooperation will demonstrate its value under this severe and complex security environment,” the two leaders said in the statement.

The two sides also noted Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which they said has not only shaken the rules-based international order but also “gravely altered” the global security environment, particularly as the balance of power shifts rapidly in the Indo-Pacific.

In this context, they expressed concerns about growing Sino-Russian military cooperation, including joint operations and drills in the vicinity of Japan, and reiterated their opposition to “any unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force or coercion in the East China Sea.”

They also criticized reports of militarisation, coercion and intimidation in the South China Sea, and urged China, which NATO has designated a “systemic challenge,” to improve transparency and cooperate with international arms control, disarmament and nonproliferation efforts.

On Taiwan, the two leaders described the need for peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait as “an indispensable element in security and prosperity” of the international community. They also reiterated their condemnation of North Korea’s nuclear and missile development, urging Pyongyang to comply with U.N. Security Council resolutions.

Before traveling to Tokyo, Stoltenberg had visited South Korea where he urged allies and partners, including Seoul, to provide more assistance to Ukraine to help bring Russia to the negotiation table.

Just like South Korea, Japan has provided nonlethal aid to Ukraine in the form of drones, bulletproof vests, helmets, tents and medical supplies, but has not delivered weapons due to defense guidelines that effectively ban weapons exports.

Speaking on the issue of military support for Kyiv, Stoltenberg noted in Seoul that while the decision was South Korea’s, “several NATO allies, who had as a policy never to export weapons to countries in conflict have changed that policy now.”

Stoltenberg’s visits to Seoul and Tokyo have been viewed with concern in Beijing and Pyongyang. China’s Foreign Ministry criticized NATO for what it said was repeatedly going beyond its traditional regional area of defense by strengthening military and security ties with Asia-Pacific countries.

“Such developments call for high vigilance among regional countries,” a ministry spokesperson said. “NATO needs to abandon the Cold War mentality and bloc confrontation mindset, and do things that will contribute to the security and stability of Europe and the wider world.”

Pyongyang echoed earlier claims by its ally, Beijing, with state-run media claiming that the trips “instigate the creation of an Asian NATO,” warning that the visits were “a prelude to confrontation and war” as the body brings “the dark clouds of a new Cold War to the Asia-Pacific region.”

China lashes out at NATO country’s newly elected leader

Beijing has accused the next Czech president, Petr Pavel, of meddling in its affairs after his Taiwan phone call

Beijing has slammed Czech President-elect and former NATO general Petr Pavel for a phone call with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning stated on Tuesday that the conversation was “a serious interference in China’s internal affairs.”

“This is a blatant violation of the Czech Republic’s political commitment to the one-China principle and sends a wrong signal to the ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces,”Mao said at a regular press briefing. She added that Prague held the call on Monday “despite China’s repeated dissuasion.”

“We urge the Czech Republic to take immediate and effective measures…to undo the negative impact of this incident and credibly abide by the one-China principle,” the spokeswoman said.

Beijing views Taiwan, which has been ruled by a separate government since the late 1940s, as its territory, and strongly opposes any form of recognition of the Taipei authorities. The majority of countries, including the Czech Republic, do not maintain formal diplomatic relations with the island.

A retired army general, Pavel won the election on Saturday, defeating former Prime Minister Andrej Babis. From 2015 to 2018,Pavel served as chair of the NATO Military Committee, a body that participates in the US-led bloc’s strategic planning.

Pavel wrote on Twitter on Monday that he and Tsai had “agreed on strengthening our partnership.” He also said he hoped to meet the Taiwanese leader in person in the future.

Taiwanese Foreign Ministry spokesman Jeff Liu said in a statement that the island’s government “will do its utmost” to deepen bilateral ties with Prague.

Last year, Beijing protested the visit of former US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the island. She was the highest-ranking US official to make such a trip since the 1990s. Beijing responded to the incident by holding large-scale snap military drills around Taiwan.

The Pavel-Tsai call took place amid heightened tensions between China and NATO. The alliance has accused Beijing of coercing its neighbors in the region and “threatening” Taiwan. Beijing, meanwhile, has rejected the portrayal of China as a threat and urged the US to abandon its “Cold War mentality.”

Sex, lies and videotapes: Yet another scandal involving Western mercenaries engulfs Ukraine

A lawsuit alleges that the American founder of the ‘Mozart’ group is a sex pest and conman

A lawsuit filed by a former member of the mercenary Mozart Group has raised serious questions about the controversial outfit, including its founder – former US marine Andy Milburn. It’s just the latest example of how grift in the Ukraine conflict has led to very serious consequences.

What is ‘Mozart Group’?

Founded in mid-March 2022, the organization was designed to make a major impact in the Ukraine conflict, in every way. Its name was attention seeking, a provocative pun on Wagner, the Russian private military company that in recent weeks has been steadily liberating Ukraine-occupied territory in the Donbass. The media-savvy, combat-experienced Milburn was highly effective at inserting himself into the coverage, being widely quoted by Western news outlets.

“Driven by the same pro-Ukrainian spirit that has put yellow and blue flags flying across the Western world, Mr. Milburn feels strongly that this is a just war,” theNew York Times oozed in October 2022. “But there are other forces operating on him — boredom, guilt, his own sorrows and a quest for redemption.”

Mozart’s representatives publicly sought to characterize themselves not as an army-for-hire, but a team of seasoned veterans who don't personally carry guns, but provide vital military training to the Ukrainian army, and extract civilians from the frontline. While Milburn made much of his three decades of service, including deployments in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Somalia, he also claimed staff would be fired on the spot if they engaged in direct combat with Russian forces.

The entire Western media bought the line that Mozart wasn’t in Ukraine for belligerent purposes.The idea that a bunch of battle-hardened marines would simply show up in a combat zone to help – but disavow violence while they were there – was always a farceand recent comments by Milburn make this clear. Speaking to RT on 28 January, he said his primary goal was to “kill Russians”:

“Why do we train guys? It isn’t simply to defend themselves, it’s to kill the enemy. Everything we’re doing is exactly within the parameters of NATO policy. The West is providing Ukraine with lethal weapons that kill Russians…When we train soldiers that is their goal. It’s why we teach them how to operate their weapons.”

Despite Milburn’s boasts that Mozart Group “is filling a niche no one is filling,” and his consequent belief that sizable Western government funding should be “an absolute no-brainer,”neither sponsorship nor corresponding richeshave been forthcoming. The organization has, to his immense disappointment, only received relatively small sums from unnamed US-based financiers with Ukrainian ancestry, and from a humanitarian organization for the purpose of evacuations.

Why was the leader of Mozart sued?

A lawsuit taken by Andy Bain, Mozart’s former chief financial officer, against Milburn, and “defendants John Doe 1 through 10,” who are “individuals or entities who have acted together with, or under the direction of”Milburn, might offer a clue as to why Washington and its international lackeys have been so reticent to stump up any cash for the effort.

Bain’s suit paints a shockingpicture of an utterly chaotic, corrupt, criminal organization, in which “on multiple occasions” Milburn “has taken actions which have and will continue to cause harm to the company.” A 26-point list, running from a-to-z, outlines the alleged behavior. This bombshell rap sheet has been completely ignored by the Western media since its publication.

They include “threatening and harassing a private business owner who volunteered a newly refurbished apartment for Mozart Group,” a residence where Milburn held “numerous late night parties,” and kept “a stray untrained dog…which defecated and urinated freely.” When the owner evicted the company due to this conduct, Milburn is said to have bombarded them with “hostile messages,”including one in which he warned “you have no idea who you are dealing with” and “will not escape unscathed.”

Milburn also “unilaterally” hired a Ukrainian woman he met on a dating app - “and with whom he had a prior personal relationship” - as his personal assistant,paying her an annual salary of $90,000, “which is at least four times more than the usual compensation rate for a Ukrainian based employee in such position.”..

Milburn purportedly made “unwanted sexual advances and propositions to a female office manager” too, and when these were rejected, he “preemptively labeled her as a liar”to Bain and possibly others, “in the event she would not keep silent about his actions.”

Bain further charges thatMilburn embezzled donations and enriched himself through a number of scams. For example, he is said to have secretly meddled with donation links on Mozart’s website, so money intended for the organization was actually redirected to another company he set up. Yet another business entity with an almost identical name to Mozart Group’s is also apparently being established “to confuse donors and continue to facilitate the diversion of funds.”

It could be the case that certain donors knew their money would be spent on highly dubious, if not outright criminal activities. Milburn allegedly solicited cash from private companies, “promising to use those funds to pay bribes to senior military leaders to make military decisions favorable to safeguarding specific private assets, irrespective of damage such decisions may have to Ukraine’s military position,” therefore “forcing the Ukrainian government to divert badly needed Ukrainian counter-intelligence resources to track his illegal activities.”

Bain claims to have received “numerous threatening texts”from Milburn when he left the company, including promises “to tell the media about non-existent compromising information,”should he go public with what he knew.

If Mozart’s chief financial officer is to be believed - and the nature of his accusations suggest he may have incriminating evidence to support them - senior Ukrainian military officers called Milburn the “Crazy American”, and wished he’d “go home and stop saving our country.”

Other areas of the filing imply Milburn’s public declarations that Mozart did not and never would engage in military activities were lies, and the company is an active mercenary outfit with plans to expand its operations. Bain also claims Milburn failed to acquire the necessary approvals to comply with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR):

“Outside the scope of original business interest in Ukraine, sought commercial contracts for military training in Armenia which would divert resources from Ukraine, having done so knowingly and deliberately without United States Department of State registration or approval in violation of ITAR.”

A day after Bain’s lawsuit was filed, Milburn responded with an enormous number of counter-accusations via various social media platforms, posts which he later deleted, claiming Bain was a “disgruntled” former employee who himself had been accused of financial and sexual misconduct.

Milburn even said Bain at one point attempted to sell Mozart to the Taliban. A wild charge, but believable, given the eagerness of foreigners to line their pockets off the back of the Ukraine conflict. As RT has repeatedly documented,the International Legion - including its celebrity fraudster spokeswoman - is a hotbed of embezzlement.

There are clear signs that Ukrainian military personnel, and the country's civilian authorities, aren’t above profiteering from the conflict, and engaging in crime in the process. A drunken Andy Milburn testified to this on a December podcast, where he said it was a “corrupt, f*d-up society,” run by “plenty of f*d up people.” Comically, this is referenced in Bain’s lawsuit. He says Milburn was “significantly intoxicated and making unfounded accusations and derogatory comments against the government of Ukraine and the Ukrainian military.”

The older footage of her remarks about "getting rid of whites" was pulled from Youtube, though I think I found a copy recently. I do know of a platform that last I looked still had the footage.

The bottom line is that anyone making such callous, racist remarks does not belong anywhere near vaccine needles or vaccine recommendations. This is the type of person who would likely not mind using public health to engineer society.

Such training is now often a precondition to occupy a faculty position on a hiring committee.

Trump sues legendary journalist over audiobook

The former US president has accused Bob Woodward of “systematic manipulation”

Former US President Donald Trump filed a nearly $50-million lawsuit against journalist and author Bob Woodward on Monday, accusing him of including taped interviews in a recent audiobook without permission. In the complaint, Trump accuses Woodward of “systematic usurpation, manipulation, and exploitation” of the recordings, which he says were “protected” under copyright and license laws.

Publishing house Simon & Schuster and its parent company, Paramount, are listed as co-defendants.

Woodward recorded a series of phone interviews with Trump during his time in office. The conversations formed the basis of the book ‘Rage,’ released in September 2020.

The journalist then reused the recordings for the audiobook titled ‘The Trump Tapes: Bob Woodward’s Twenty Interviews with President Donald Trump,’ released last October. It contains more than eight hours of raw interviews Woodward conducted with Trump between 2016 and 2020, as well as author’s commentary.

Trump alleges that he had consented to being interviewed for the book, but not the subsequent audiobook. “Faced with the reality that Ragewas a complete and total failure(kek), Woodward decided to exploit, usurp, and capitalize upon President Trump’s voice,” the lawsuit claims.

The 45th president further claims Woodward and his publisher took “extensive and unacceptable liberties” whenediting the interviews and “selectively omitted” parts of Trump’s responses.

In a joint statement to the media, Woodward and Simon & Schuster rejected the allegations. “All these interviews were on the record and recorded with President Trump’s knowledge and agreement,” the statement said. “Moreover, it is in the public interest to have this historical record in Trump’s own words. We are confident that the facts and the law are in our favor.”

The audiobook was released against the backdrop of the US House Select Committee’s investigation of Trump’s role in the storming of the Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

In November, Trump announced that he would seek another presidential term in the 2024 election. He held his first official campaign event on Saturday.

Woodward first rose to prominence in 1972, as one of the investigative reporters who first broke the story on what later became known as the Watergate scandal. The controversy led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon two years later.

A photograph on the front page of Saturday's Daily Telegraph showed a man and a woman lying fully clothed in a bath in the former London home of convicted child sex trafficker Ms Maxwell, wearing makeshift masks bearing the faces of the Prince and his accuser.

Today, Ian Maxwell repeated his claim that the picture proves the bath is too small to have sex in, telling Times Radio: 'I don't know what your contortions and the ability to have a grand old sex-time in a bath, but that's a very, very small tub. He's a big man. And the guy in the picture is smaller than he is. 'The girl had her back to the taps, hard. It's ludicrous to think that anybody, let alone a prince of the realm knowing allegedly that other people are in the house, are going to have to have this fantastical arrangement in this tiny little room.'

Friends of Ms Giuffre have poured scorn on the 'bizarre' photo stunt - which is said to prove Prince Andrew's 'innocence' of alleged sex crimes against her.

The Duke's accuser has claimed that in 2001 when she was 17, he licked her toes in the bath before they had sex in the bedroom.

She alleged she was forced to have sex with Andrew by convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein – who died in 2019 awaiting trial for child sex trafficking offences – and his close friend, Ghislaine Maxwell. The Duke has repeatedly and vehemently denied Ms Roberts's claims.

Today, Mr Maxwell insisted the photo was 'just another example' of Ms Giuffre's 'faulty memory'.

'What it does prove is the reverse of what Miss Giuffre said in her unpublished memoir, which is a court document and was released by the US court, in which she says that the bathroom had a beige marble floor and there was a Victorian tub in the centre of the room,' he said.

'There is no Victorian bath, there is no bath in the centre of any room. And for her to say that there is just wrong. Her memory is wrong, or it never happened.

'[The photograph] is designed to say, Wait a minute. This lady has been believed, almost without any compunction by everybody.

'I think that the other side of the story needs to be looked at by the media properly, the allegations need to be investigated thoroughly. We only ever hear one side of the story.' Mr Maxwell said that Prince Andrew could take action after Ms Giuffre dropped her accusations against the lawyer Alan Dershowitz.

'He's got to take a view. Dershowitz has suggested that he should consider all legal remedies now to get his reputation back, try and get his life back on track,' he said.

'The appeal is not about Ghislaine's innocence or guilt. She's been found guilty. That is the position. I can't do anything about it. She's guilty, she's been convicted.

'She's in prison. The appeal is about judicial error, pre trial, in trial, post trial, and also the terrible egregious errors in due process. That is what my sister is appealing against.'

Mr Maxwell claimed the photograph could be one step along the way for his sister to overturn her conviction. The comments will infuriate Ms Giuffre's camp, which has already slammed the photo 'stunt' as 'shameful'.

One source connected to her told The Mail on Sunday: ‘If this shameful stunt is the best Maxwell’s side can do in defence of Prince Andrew then it’s laughable.

‘It’s a disgusting attempt to discredit a victim of sexual abuse and would be risible if it were not so offensive. Plus they have their facts totally wrong. Virginia never said they had sex in the bath.’

Lawyer Lisa Bloom, who represented several victims of Epstein and Maxwell’s sex trafficking web, added: ‘What a surreal, bizarre photograph. It proves nothing.

In 2017 General Michael Flynn was sentenced and along with it he was also forced to admit to “making materially false statements in multiple documents filed pursuant to FARA.” The DOJ reportedly obtained Flynn’s guilty plea by threatening his son with the alleged crime of not filling out a FARA application.

In 2018, Paul Manafort “pleaded guilty in the District of Columbia to two counts: (i) conspiracy to commit multiple offenses, including violating FARA by failing to register and by providing false statements in a document filed with FARA.” Manafort was sent to prison.

FARA violations were used against these two individuals who were close to President Trump.

But not so with Hunter Biden.

In Hunter’s laptop were a number of emails that show that Hunter Biden acted as a foreign agent. Hunter’s actions in Ukraine with Burisma were one example.

Hunter Biden was on the Board of Burisma. He and his buddy Devon Archer and later Joseph Cofer Black were also on the board. Hunter, an attorney, and Cofer Black, a former CIA agent, both should have known that there are actions required for being an agent for companies and countries overseas.

Cofer Black, for example, signed a resolution for Burisma in 2019 related to dividend distribution. Cofer Black with his background should have known that the company was foreign and engaged in foreign political activities while looking for ways to build its name in the US. The hiring of Hunter Biden, Devon Archer, and Cofer Black were examples of this.

US oil giant posts monster profit

Exxon’s 2022 earnings set a historic high for the Western oil industry

US oil major ExxonMobil earned $55.7 billion in profits last year, the company disclosed on Tuesday. The figure was a new high for Exxon, whose previous record was $45.2 billion in 2008, when a barrel of oil cost close to $150 – some 30% higher on average than in 2022.

According to company CEO Darren Woods, profits soared on the back of recovering post-Covid-19 demand amid energy supply constraints.

“While our results clearly benefited from a favorable market, the counter-cyclical investments we made before and during the pandemic provided the energy and products people needed as economies began recovering and supplies became tight. We leaned in when others leaned out,” Woods said.

The company’s output also grew by about 100,000 barrels of oil and gas equivalent per day (bpd) against 2021, rising to 3.8 million bpd.

Exxon’s earnings are believed to be a record high for the Western oil industry, although fellow majors BP, Chevron, Shell, and TotalEnergies have yet to post their 2022 results. According to a recent calculation by Refinitiv analysts, the five supermajors are expected to report a combined profit of nearly $200 billion for 2022 following last year’s spikes in energy prices.

However, the bumper figures have fed the debate on whether governments should further hike taxes on windfall profits for the sector as consumers suffer high energy prices. Shell recently said its extra tax from windfall levies in Europe and the UK for 2022 is estimated at around $2.4 billion. TotalEnergies reported earlier this month that windfall taxes cost the company at least $2 billion in the fourth quarter.

Exxon said its fourth-quarter earnings fell short by $1.3 billion due to the EU’s windfall tax and asset impairments. The company is suing the bloc in a bid to scrap the levy, arguing that Brussels exceeded its legal authority by imposing it.

What is ‘Mozart Group’?

Founded in mid-March 2022, the organization was designed to make a major impact in the Ukraine conflict, in every way. Its name was attention seeking, a provocative pun on Wagner, the Russian private military company that in recent weeks has been steadily liberating Ukraine-occupied territory in the Donbass. The media-savvy, combat-experienced Milburn was highly effective at inserting himself into the coverage, being widely quoted by Western news outlets.

“Driven by the same pro-Ukrainian spirit that has put yellow and blue flags flying across the Western world, Mr. Milburn feels strongly that this is a just war,” the New York Times oozed in October 2022. “But there are other forces operating on him — boredom, guilt, his own sorrows and a quest for redemption.”

Mozart’s representatives publicly sought to characterize themselves not as an army-for-hire, but a team of seasoned veterans who don't personally carry guns, but provide vital military training to the Ukrainian army, and extract civilians from the frontline. While Milburn made much of his three decades of service, including deployments in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Somalia, he also claimed staff would be fired on the spot if they engaged in direct combat with Russian forces.

The entire Western media bought the line that Mozart wasn’t in Ukraine for belligerent purposes. The idea that a bunch of battle-hardened marines would simply show up in a combat zone to help – but disavow violence while they were there – was always a farce and recent comments by Milburn make this clear. Speaking to RT on 28 January, he said his primary goal was to “kill Russians”:

“Why do we train guys? It isn’t simply to defend themselves, it’s to kill the enemy. Everything we’re doing is exactly within the parameters of NATO policy. The West is providing Ukraine with lethal weapons that kill Russians…When we train soldiers that is their goal. It’s why we teach them how to operate their weapons.”

Sullivan & Cromwell’s Crypto Clients Are in Growing Distress

The 144-year old law firm, Sullivan & Cromwell, which previously prided itself on being the go-to law firm for Wall Street, decided a few years back to get deep in the swamp with all things crypto. That dicey decision is now playing out in negative headlines that are dragging down the reputation of the 900-attorney law firm.

Adding to questions swirling around its past legal representation of now indicted crypto kingpin, Sam Bankman-Fried, as well as his bankrupt crypto exchange, FTX, and his hedge fund, Alameda Research, is the fact that a growing number of Sullivan & Cromwell’s other crypto clients are also in various stages of distress. Notwithstanding that reality, the presiding judge in the FTX bankruptcy proceedings, John Dorsey, signed an order on January 20 naming Sullivan & Cromwell the lead counsel in the FTX bankruptcy case. But long before Judge Dorsey’s order was signed, Sullivan & Cromwell was billing large bucks to FTX, acknowledging in a bankruptcy court filing that over the prior 16 months it had collected legal fees and expenses of $8,564,487.50 from FTX and its affiliates, plus a $12 million retainer for FTX bankruptcy work. According to Bloomberg Law, Sullivan & Cromwell “has more than 150 people working on the FTX case, including 30 partners…” A court filing from Sullivan & Cromwell shows that its partners can charge as much as $2,165 per hour. The final tab in the bankruptcy case is expected to land in the “hundreds of millions of dollars” according to the Bloomberg Law article.

Sullivan & Cromwell snagged this very lucrative bankruptcy work, according to a screen shot (see above) shared by Sam Bankman-Fried in the testimony he was prepared to present to the House Financial Services Committee on December 13, because it had a friendly former partner at FTX. (Bankman-Fried was arrested by federal prosecutors from the Justice Department and thus prevented from delivering his testimony in person, but Forbes obtained a copy of the document.)

The inside man was Ryne Miller, who left Sullivan & Cromwell and went directly to FTX.US as General Counsel in August of 2021. Despite Miller’s eight years at Sullivan & Cromwell and more than three years working as legal counsel at a federal regulator, Miller somehow managed not to notice the following at FTX: there was no functioning Board of Directors; there was no accounting department; there was no functioning compliance department making sure that customer funds were not co-mingled with Sam Bankman-Fried’s personal piggy bank, his hedge fund, Alameda Research. This lack of corporate controls was described by the new FTX CEO, John Ray, at the December 13 hearing of the House Financial Services Committee.

Despite these failures by Ryne Miller, John Ray reported in a declaration filed on January 17 with the FTX bankruptcy court that Miller is “still employed” by FTX.US, which is also part of the bankruptcy proceedings. As a direct result of this lack of corporate controls, Ray told the House panel that over $8 billion of customers funds are missing at FTX.

A San Juan County Commissioner is "apologizing" after bodycam footage revealed him pressuring police to release his lawfully arrested son.

"It appeared to me that [Bruce Adams] was trying to use his influence as a County Commissioner to intimidate me into showing information that I was not permitted to do," San Juan Sheriff's Deputy Wyatt Holyoak said, per KUTV's reporting.

November's traffic stop incident

Bodycam footage shows Bruce Adams' disturbing interaction with San Juan County Sheriff's Deputy Wyatt Holyoak following a November 25, 2022, traffic stop, KUTV reported.

Earlier in the evening, Deputy Brayden Giddings pulled over Bruce Adams' son, Kenneth Adams, for failing to stop at a stop sign and failing to signal. Additional officers came to the scene after the deputy discovered Kenneth Adams had an outstanding warrant, the validity of which Kenneth Adams disputed. Kenneth then phoned his parents, the outlet notes.

Deputy Wyatt Holyoak, also at the scene, next suggests Kenneth Adams' car be released to his parents, per the footage.

The commissioner's demands

Holyoak reports that Commissioner Adams, on arriving to pick up the car, demanded to see the "mother fcking warrant"; said he wanted the officer to "turn [Kenneth] loose"; and then threatened to "sue the son-of-a-b*tch county sheriff because he arrested my kid on a false warrant," the outlet also said.

After the deputy received permission from his superiors to "de-escalate the situation" by showing Adams his son's warrant, the commissioner reportedly continued to argue the document was "false."

A disputed apology

Commissioner Adams later called the sheriff's office to complain about his son's arrest. After that, then-Sheriff Jason Torgerson expressed concern about Adams' "lack of professionalism" in a meeting at the county's public safety building, KUTV's reporting explained.

Though Adams says he apologized to the sheriff's office, the reports do not mention any such apology. "I called the sheriff the next day and I said, you know, I shouldn't have done what I did," Adams told KUTV's Daniel Woodruff Thursday.

"It's embarrassing for me to act that way," Adams also told the outlet. "I feel bad that I did that. But I was emotional."

Adams denied acting as a county commissioner at the time of the incident. "In my opinion, I was acting as a father," he also said.

San Juan County's Commission website lists Adams as the chair of the elected board. The body is charged with "responsibilities for the executive and legislative powers, duties and functions of the county."

Patients Denied Transplants for Declining COVID Jabs Get Their Day in Court

A Michigan judge will soon decide if 73-year-old Ross Barranco can be denied a donated kidney because he won’t take the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I just don’t see the logic of it,” stated Barranco in an interview with The Epoch Times. “Everybody knows an organ transplant procedure requires the nearly complete suppression of a recipient’s immune system so the body won’t reject it.

“Then why do I need to be immunized against COVID before the operation?”

When asked if he thought the vaccine would make any difference in his prognosis, he replied, “Yeah, the vax can kill me.

“To qualify for a transplant both of my kidneys have to be functioning at 20 percent or less. What if the vax destroys the remaining function before the operation? If it does, I’m done.

“The jab does absolutely nothing beneficial for a transplant patient,” he said.

Given the current COVID-19 testing capability, it remains unclear why transplant patients cannot be tested for COVID-19 before the operation. A negative result could then green-light the procedure.

It is also unclear why, given the data showing numerous fully vaccinated people have come down with COVID-19 multiple times, the shot is still being regarded by some hospitals as an immunization.

Barranco’s legal team made reference to a 2021 survey of 200 transplant centers across the country.

Of the 140 that responded to the survey, only half required transplant candidates to take a COVID-19 vaccine regimen.

“The vax can hardly be deemed medically necessary if half of the responding transplant centers are not requiring it,” said Deborah Catalono of the Liberty Counsel, a researcher tracking hospital transplant policies and a lawyer familiar with many similar cases to that of Barranco and Shier.

The Liberty Counsel is a non-profit, litigation, education, and policy organization dedicated to upholding religious liberty and Christian values.

Medical questions and safety concerns aside, Barranco, a Roman Catholic, actually refused the vaccine on religious grounds.

He said his faith and conscience do not permit him to receive a shot that he is convinced was developed using body parts obtained from aborted babies and has fetal tissue in its ingredients.

Vax-up or Else

On Feb. 1, 2022, Barranco received what he perceived as an “ultimatum” from the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor.

School Cop and his Teacher Wife Arrested for Grooming, Raping, and Filming Students

Prosecutors described a "highly elaborate grooming process" carried out by the couple.

A disgraced school resource officer and his now-fired teacher wife have been indicted on disturbing sex charges involving a student from the school where they worked. Parents and students from Corinth Holders High School in Wendell, N.C. are now asking if anyone else was involved.

According to authorities, Mike Medlin, a Johnston County Sheriff's Office deputy and school resource officer, and his wife Ami Medlin, a teacher for 22 years and worked as a family and consumer science teacher at Corinth Holders High School, have been hit with multiple charges.

The couple was indicted on three charges each of taking indecent liberties with a student, first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and sexual servitude.

Prosecutors described a "highly elaborate grooming process" carried out by the couple on a troubled boy at the school. The abuse spanned the course of two years.

"He was invited into their home and given alcohol. Videos were made of him doing sexual things and then given to Miss Medlin at school so she could watch," the prosecutor said.

Details of the abuse were made public, including the fact that Mike Medlin admitted to being "involved" after the student was intoxicated. According to police documents, the couple admitted to taking a student home with them to "watch movies" in their bed with them.

The couple was also accused of inappropriate relationships with other children, including a girl who had been a babysitter for their children.

Despite the couple's own admissions and the extremely disturbing allegations surrounding their indictments, the courtroom was packed on Monday with their supporters, according to WRAL.

The male victim, who is now an adult, was also in the courtroom on Monday as the district attorney asked for $75,000 bail for each of them. The judge, who was apparently swayed by the thin blue line, bumped the bail down to $50,000 and the couple quickly posted it and returned home.

The investigation began last year and Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell fired Deputy Medlin following an internal investigation into allegations of an inappropriate relationship with two alleged victims. Medlin was terminated on May 23, 2022. Ami Medlin was suspended on May 16, 2022, by Johnston County Schools.

According to the indictment, “the defendant took indecent liberties with the student victim by: willfully taking and attempting to take immoral, improper, or indecent liberties with the student victim for the purpose of arousing or gratifying sexual desire; and by willfully committing and attempting to commit lewd and lascivious acts upon and with the body and any part of member of the body of a student victim.”

Hunter Biden allies talking about creating legal defense fund: report

Allies of Hunter Biden have held initial discussions about starting a legal defense fund to aid the first son as Republicans ramp up congressional investigations into his business relationships and the federal probe into his taxes continues, according to a report on Tuesday.

A collection of attorneys have been representing Hunter, 52, in recent years and new ones are being added as his team pursues fresh legal strategies — but the Biden scion has struggled to pay them all due to dwindling financial resources, the Washington Post reported.

It’s unclear exactly how much the first son owes in legal fees because some of the work has been treated as pro bono.

But others close to the situation say Hunter’s debt could reach into the millions of dollars — and that amount is expected to go up as the House GOP launches probes.

President Biden’s son has no steady source of income, the report said, and the once-lucrative payouts from his foreign business relationships have dried up under continued public scrutiny.

The Post revealed Hunter Biden’s shady connections to Ukraine and China in a series of reports in October 2020.

While the first son is currently trying a career as an artist, reportedly selling one painting for $500,000, other pieces of his artwork have not fetched nearly as much, the report said.

At the same time, some potential buyers have reneged on their purchases because of the congressional investigations and other potential blowback.

Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, sent a letter last week to the Soho gallery owner who exhibited Hunter Biden’s paintings, seeking information about who purchased the art as part of his investigation into alleged influence peddling.

The gallery owner, Georges Berges, told The Post that the request for sales information should go through his lawyers, but took the time to gush about Hunter Biden’s artwork.

“His is a story of perseverance; Hunter’s story reflects what I believe is the beauty of humanity, judged not by the fall, but by having the strength to rise up, by having the character required to change and the courage to do it,” Berges told The Post about the recovering crack addict.

Other prominent figures, including former President Bill Clinton and longtime political operative Roger Stone, have created legal defense funds as they confronted mounting legal bills in the face of investigations.

But the disclosure process governing the funds is often vague, raising ethical questions about who’s donating and whether they are trying to influence the White House.

The Washington Post report also noted there are few rules governing legal defense funds for private citizens.

While the Office of Government Ethics, the agency monitoring conflicts of interest in the executive branch, has started to come up with rules for executive branch officials, that process is ongoing.

Still, the office is not considering rules for the children of elected officials, despite concerns over donors trying to buy influence.

“The Federal Election Commission does not consider legal defense funds to be a part of the campaign finance system,” Craig Holman, a lobbyist for Public Citizen, told the outlet.

DeSantis Responds To Trump Attacks

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis responded to former President Donald Trump criticizing him for his COVID-19 response Tuesday. He said he has “people attacking” him from “all angles” and that the verdict is ultimately up to the “people.”

“Trump has criticized you a number of times in the past couple of days on a number of different issues, one of them being COVID in the state,” Daily Caller chief national correspondent Henry Rodgers asked DeSantis at a press conference on education.

“I roll out of bed, I have people attacking me from all angles,” DeSantis responded. “It’s been happening for many, many years. And if you look at the good thing about it, though, is like if you take a crisis situation like COVID, you know, the good thing about it is when you’re an elected executive, you gotta make all kinds of decisions. You gotta steer that ship, and the good thing is that the people are able to render a judgement on whether they reelect you or not.”

“I’m happy to say, you know, in my case, not only did we win reelection, we won with the highest percentage of the vote that any Republican candidate has in the history of the state of Florida,” DeSantis added. “That verdict has been rendered by the people of the state of Florida.”

On Saturday and Sunday, Trump issued multiple attacks on DeSantis’ handling of COVID-19 and his shutting down of Florida’s beaches. The former president has also labeled the governor “DeSanctimonious,” and has said that a DeSantis presidential run in 2024 would be bad for the “base.”

“The revelations about Ron DeSanctimonious doing FAR WORSE than many other Republican governors, including that he unapologetically shut down Florida and its beaches, was interesting, indeed. DJT leading BIG!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

DeSantis had largely been silent on Trump’s criticisms. In November, he appeared to respond to Trump by alluding to “noise” around him.
