Man arrested as Buckingham Palace goes into lockdown

 

Police cordons around Buckingham Palace are being lifted after a man was arrested for throwing what are believed to be shotgun cartridges onto the palace grounds.

A controlled explosion also took place, believed to involve a bag the man was carrying.

Police have said the man was arrested at about 7pm local time (4am AEST).

Their argument is that you shouldn't have to give the state your ID to view their site. It's a nuanced debate, but that's the logic. Some other states are giving third party companies the job of fielding your driver's license to view adult sites. God knows where a person's information goes once they fork it over. Pornhub could've fixed this a long time ago by implementing their own verification system but they refused to do it because it would reduce traffic to the site, and cost them money. Stupid, stupid, stupid choice by Pornhub. People still supporting the industry are moving in droves to pay only sites with effective verification. The free hub sites are going to start drying up.

 

All this is helping to get it out of the hands of kids, and that's a good thing. Finding a way to keep speech/expression free and get it out of the hands of kids is going to right a lot of issues in society.

Democrat Lawmaker Lois Frankel Sold First Republic Stock Before It Crashed by 80% – Bought JPMorgan Stock Which Just Bought First Republic Instead

 

Investor Matt Allen posted an interesting tweet on how one Democrat lawmaker was able to wade through the collapse of First Republic Bank.

 

Congresswoman Lois Frankel sold First Republic Bank in March before the stock dropped 80%

 

After she sold First Republic, she bought JP Morgan Chase which just bought First Republic. She clearly had inside information.

 

The Free Beacon reported:

 

Florida Democratic representative Lois Frankel is capitalizing on First Republic Bank’s collapse and subsequent buyout by JP Morgan Chase & Co, according to congressional financial disclosures reported on by Newsweek.

 

Frankel sold her stock in the San Francisco-based bank on March 16, weeks before the value of its shares dropped 75 percent and U.S. regulators seized the failing bank’s assets, Newsweek reported. A few days later, on March 22, Frankel bought stock in JP Morgan Chase & Co, which on Monday bought most of First Republic Bank’s assets. The exact amount of stock Frankel traded is unknown, but according to the filing, the value for each trade was between $1,001 and $15,000, Newsweek reported.

 

Frankel’s shrewd trading fuels mounting criticism of members of Congress buying and selling stocks, which allows them to profit from industries they are supposed to regulate. Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D., Ore.) and John Curtis (R., Utah) also reported trading First Republic Bank stocks before its collapse.

__Introduction__Over the past few years, artificial intelligence has matured into a collection of powerful technologies that are delivering competitive advantage to businesses across industries. Global AI adoption and investment are soaring. By one account, 37 percent of organizations have deployed AI solutions—up 270 percent from four years ago.1 Analysts forecast global AI spending will more than double over the next three years, topping US$79 billion by 2022.2

Companies and countries around the globe increasingly view development of strong AI capabilities as imperative to staying competitive. Deloitte’s State of AI in the Enterprise, 2nd Edition offers a global perspective of AI early adopters, based on surveying 1,900 IT and business executives from seven countries and a variety of industries.3 These adopters are increasing their spending on AI technologies and realizing positive returns. Almost two-thirds (65 percent) report that AI technologies are enabling their organizations to move ahead of the competition. Sixty-three percent of the leaders surveyed already view AI as “very” or “critically” important to their business success, and that number is expected to grow to 81 percent within two years.

These leaders see AI rapidly transforming their businesses and industries. Fifty-seven percent predict that AI will “substantially transform” their company within the next three years; two-thirds believe that their industry’s transformation will happen within five years. As AI drives these transformations, it is changing how work gets done in organizations by making operations more efficient, supporting better decision-making, and freeing up workers from certain tasks. The nature of job roles, and the skills that are most needed, are evolving.

Indeed, the effect AI will ultimately have on jobs is uncertain: Are we staring at a dim future in which AI-driven automation has made most jobs obsolete, or is AI ushering in a new age characterized by humans working in collaboration with the technologies—augmented by AI capabilities rather than displaced by them?4 Early indicators support the optimistic view: While AI adopters express concern about automation as an ethical risk, they emphatically believe that human workers and AI will augment each other, changing the nature of work for the better.

The changing nature of work

As AI adoption advances, the way organizations do their work is evolving. Seventy-one percent of adopters report that AI technologies have already changed their company’s job roles and necessary skills, and 82 percent believe AI will lead to moderate or substantial changes to job roles and skills over the next three years.

For AI adopters, improving internal business operations is a benefit on par with enhancing products and services (figure 1). TiVo, for example, streamlines IT operations by using a machine learning5 platform to automatically detect, classify, aggregate, and route IT incidents.6 The AI-aided process has reduced actionable events from about 2,500 to 150 daily, enabling the professionals in TiVo’s network operations center to more easily manage highly complex operations, 24/7…..really long article. RFK Jr. Promises to Pardon Snowden and Assange If Elected

 

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made one of the biggest campaign promises yet and that’s he will pardon whistleblowers Edward Snowden and Julian Assange if he’s elected as President.

 

In his latest tweet, Kennedy expressed that the United States doesn’t celebrate free speech but rather persecutes journalists and whistleblowers.

 

Kennedy tweeted “Instead of championing free speech, the U.S. actively persecutes journalists and whistleblowers. I’ll pardon brave truth-tellers like Julian Assange and investigate the corruption and crimes they exposed.”

 

After stating he plans to pardon Assange if elected, he fired off a secondary tweet promising to also pardon other persecuted journalist and whistleblower’s such as “John Kiriakou, Chelsea Manning, Reality Winner, Daniel Hale, Thomas Drake, Jeffrey Sterling, and Edward Snowden.”

 

Kennedy is the only Democratic presidential candidate running that has promised to pardon both Snowden and Assange.

 

As the Gateway Pundit previously reported Eric Snowden is currently in exile in Russia after the Department of Justice filed three charges against Snowden two of which fall under the Espionage Act, because he allegedly released confidential information from the NSA in 2013 which revealed the Obama administration was spying on the American people illegally.

 

The founder of Wikileaks Julian Assange is currently being held in a London prison and is appealing his extradition to the United States to face 17 charges of espionage for reportedly publishing classified US government documents on WikiLeaks.

 

Biden is not very fond of pardoning Assange and has publicly stated he will not pardon the Australian whistleblower.

Two major banks and a bank executive could be liable for Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking, a judge has ruled.

 

Plaintiffs have presented enough evidence that JPMorgan Chase, longtime JPMorgan executive Jes Staley, and Deutsche Bank could be liable for Epstein’s sex trafficking, U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff said on May 1 as he rejected motions to dismiss cases brought against Staley and the institutions.

 

“Plaintiffs have pled sufficient facts to support their allegations that JP Morgan had … knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein’s sex-trafficking venture, either directly or by recklessly disregarding what was plainly to be seen,” Rakoff, a Clinton appointee, wrote in a 54-page decision.

 

One of the plaintiffs, a woman who says she was abused by Epstein and his associates, has also pled “sufficient facts to support her allegation that Deutsche Bank knew or recklessly disregarded that Jeffrey Epstein ran a sex-trafficking venture,” the judge also said.

 

The ruling came in cases brought by several alleged Epstein victims and the U.S. Virgin Islands government against JPMorgan and Deutsche Bank. It also covers a claim filed against Staley by JP Morgan.

 

The banks are accused of violating federal law that prohibits sex trafficking of children by force, fraud, or coercion, with one section of the law allowing for the punishment of people who knowingly benefit financially from participating in a sex trafficking venture.

 

Defendants have argued they did not participate in Epstein’s venture because they were only providing typical banking services. Participation in a venture requires “specific conduct that furthered the sex trafficking venture,” or conduct that is “more than just passive facilitation,” previous rulings have stated. But plaintiffs have presented evidence that both banks structured the voluminous cash withdrawals Epstein enacted in ways that hid how they were suspicious, the judge said, in addition to delaying or failing to file suspicious activity reports.

A major federal agency is keeping its COVID-19 vaccine mandate in place even as most agencies are ending their vaccination requirements.

 

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is retaining its mandate, Secretary Denis McDonough said in a message to employees reviewed by The Epoch Times.

 

The White House’s announcement that many mandates are ending “will not impact” the VA, McDonough said. “To ensure the safety of Veterans and our colleagues, VA health care personnel will still be required to be vaccinated at this time,” he told workers.

 

“As we transition to this new phase of our response to the pandemic, the vaccine (including booster shots) remains the best way to protect you, your families, your colleagues, and Veterans from COVID-19.”

 

A VA spokesperson declined to provide any data consulted when choosing to keep the mandate in place.

 

The VA’s website claims that vaccines “help protect you from getting severe illness” and “offer good protection against most COVID-19 variants,” pointing in part to observational data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that indicate the vaccines provide poor protection against symptomatic infection and transient shielding against hospitalization.

 

No clinical trial efficacy data has been made public for updated shots from Moderna and Pfizer, and none of the vaccines prevent infection or transmission.

 

The VA is the second-largest federal agency, employing nearly 400,000 people.

 

The VA was the first U.S. agency to mandate vaccination for its workers.

 

“We’re mandating vaccines for Title 38 employees because it’s the best way to keep veterans safe, especially as the Delta variant spreads across the country,” McDonough, an appointee of President Joe Biden, said in a statement on July 26, 2021.

 

The mandate was later expanded to most Veterans Health Administration employees and volunteers. It covers personnel such as psychologists, pharmacists, housekeepers, social workers, volunteers, and contractors.

 

“Effectively, this means that any Veterans Health Administration (VHA) employee, volunteer, or contractor who works in VHA facilities, visits VHA facilities, or provides direct care to those we serve will still be subject to the vaccine requirement at this time,” McDonough said on Monday.

 

The mandate does not cover employees deemed to be VA health care personnel.

 

Mandates imposed by two other agencies, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Indian Health Service, are also remaining in place while the agencies review the requirements, the Biden administration said.

 

The NIH did not return requests for comment, and the health service declined to provide more details.

A man who 'threw shotgun cartridges' into the grounds of Buckingham Palace was arrested on suspicion of possessing a weapon.

 

Met Police detained the man at around 7pm today after he approached the gates of the palace in central London as Coronation rehearsals took place.

 

Witnesses said the man, believed to be in his 30s, was seen throwing a 'number of items' in the residence grounds before he was arrested and detained. Police later carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious bag as a precaution.

 

A witness told The Sun that the suspect had stationed himself outside the palace over the 'last few nights' and was heard shouting: 'I'm going to kill the King.'

 

Police say they are not currently treating the incident as terror-related. It is understood it is being treated as an isolated mental health incident.

 

Buckingham Palace confirmed the King and Queen were not in residence when the incident occurred. But a Royal spokesperson would not answer whether any other relatives or family members were there when it unfolded.

 

Police cordoned off the area outside the palace after the suspect began targeting the royal residence.

 

Met Police chief superintendent Joseph McDonald said officers 'worked immediately to detain the man' - who is currently in custody.

 

A witness alleged that officers 'jumped' on the man 'as soon as he placed the bag on the ground'.

 

'They were shouting at him "get down on the floor,"' the witness told The Sun, adding that it was 'astonishing' that the man was even able to get that close to the Palace with the Coronation just days away.

 

Royal super fans who are camped along The Mall told MailOnline they were shocked after the 'big bang' from the controlled explosion went off at Buckingham Palace.

 

While none saw the incident, many remarked they had heard a bang that sounded like a 'gunshot' as authorities detonated the suspected shotgun cartridges thrown over the fence.

Google’s new ‘inclusive language dossier’ bans staff from using ‘man hours,’ ‘you guys’

 

Google leadership recently sent out a new “inclusive language dossier” to its United Kingdom staff, asking them to stop using terms such as “man hours” and “you guys.”

 

The technology company encouraged its employees to refrain from using potentially offensive language. The style guide targeted common IT lingo, including “whitelist,” “blackhole,” “blacklist,” and “black box.”

 

It also asked staff to avoid referring to people or things as “chubby,” “dummy variable,” or “crazy, bonkers or mad.”

 

The language guide was specifically sent to Google developers, the U.S. Sun reported.

 

It asked staff to be more gender inclusive in the workplace by replacing the term “man hours” with “person hours.”

 

“When referring to a group of people, use non-gendered language such as everyone or folks,” the document stated.

 

Conservative Member of Parliament Nigel Mills told the Sun that the language guide is “woke nonsense.”

 

“This is just woke nonsense. I don’t know where people find the time to come up with this sort of thing,” Mills stated. “Who cares? We should not be ditching phrases and words used for a generation just because some snowflakes might get impacted.”

 

One anonymous Google employee told the news outlet that the company’s staff is “too busy” to be concerned with the inoffensive terms.

 

“We’re much too busy to be worried about whether some totally harmless phrase that’s been used for years might upset someone, somewhere,” the staffer stated.

 

A Google spokesperson told the Sun that the dossier was given to employees as “editorial guidelines for writing clear and consistent Google-related developer documentation.

 

Last year, the tech company released an inclusive language function to flag certain words and recommend alternatives for writers using its Google Docs program.

 

When a suspected offensive word is used, the program pops up a message to the writer that reads, “Inclusive warning. Some of these words may not be inclusive to all readers. Consider using different words.”

 

The computer program, which was launched in April 2022, suggested changing “landlord” to “property owner” or “proprietor.” It also recommended using the term “humankind” instead of “mankind.” The function also flagged “policemen,” “housewife,” and “motherboard.”

 

At the time, Google told the Sun, “Our technology is always improving and we don’t yet have a solution to identifying and mitigating all unwanted word associations and biases.”

Top US general predicts Ukraine conflict duration

Joint Chiefs chair Mark Milley said that negotiations might happen in “a year or two”

The US has helped train and equip the Ukrainian military for the upcoming operations, whether offensive or defensive, but the fighting is unlikely to produce a clear winner in 2023, General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has told the outlet Foreign Affairs on a podcast that aired on Tuesday.

 

Asked what he expected of the much-heralded Ukrainian counteroffensive,Milley told Foreign Affairsthat the US and its European NATO partners have helped Ukraine train and equip “about nine brigades worth of combined arms, armor, and mech[anized] infantry type forces” over the past several months, as well as some light infantry.

 

Kiev’s forces “right now have the capability to attack, they can conduct offensive operations, and they also have the capability to defend, significantly enhanced from what they were just a year ago for conventional operations,” he said. “They’ve got a significant amount of planning and coordinationand all of that to do, if they were to do an offensive operation.”

 

According to Milley, if the Ukrainians do launch an offensive, anything is possible, from collapsing the Russian front entirely to no success at all.

 

I do think, though, that the probability of either side achieving their political objectives – war is about politics through the sole use of military means – I think that’s going to be very difficult, very challenging. And frankly, I don’t think the probability of that is likely in this year.

 

Milley claimed theRussian military had suffered 250,000 casualtiesand that the army, society and economy have all been severely impacted by the conflict. He would not speculate about Ukrainian casualties. TheKremlin has laughed off US estimates of Russian deaths as fabricated “out of nowhere.”(Scott Ritter said there’s only about 19,000-25,000 killed and very little casualties, so where Milley is getting this is totally made up)

 

The US general stuck by those claims, however, and also asserted that Russia had “failed” to achieve any of its objectives in Ukraine. Based on that, he argued that “rational folks” in Moscow would be convinced “over either months or a year or two” to negotiate, “because they’re not going to win.”(OK now he’s pretending he’s talking to the “rational folks in the Kremlin, when no one from Russia has spoken with the US leadership of military of elsewhere for close to a year)

 

Congressman Michael McCaul, who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said on Monday that the offensive needed to present a success so the West could keep funding Kiev, “after which we can then maybe have negotiations, to finally resolve this.”

 

The bulk of the podcast was devoted to China, with Milley arguing that the US “should do what it can to make sure” that Russia and China don’t set up a strategic military alliance. He dismissed the present level of military ties between Moscow and Beijing as “very, very modest.”

 

Milley also maintained that both Russia and China were aware of the US military might and did not wish a direct confrontation with Washington.

In a video clip of the segment posted to Twitter by the @LeBatardShow account, bearded drag queen “Karla Croqueta” openly admits that his performances are meant to expose children to homosexuality and his alternative lifestyle and that he feels justified in doing so because when he was a child, he “didn’t know what a queer person looked like.”

 

“Here I am, I finally have this opportunity to be loud, authentic, queer, and I have to censor myself,” he went on, complaining about having to “censor” himself in front of children by not performing homosexual acts in front of them.

 

The legislation that Le Batard and company were protesting on the program is Florida Senate Bill 1438, a bill that bars the admission of children to “adult live performances,” which it defines as “a presentation that depicts or simulates nudity, sexual conduct, or specific sexual activities.”

 

The bill was crafted to combat the rise in drag shows geared towards children, in which grown men dress as caricatures of women, and sometimes demons, to perform simulated sex acts in front of or even with children and at times expose themselves to them.

 

In several instances, drag queens who’ve deliberately performed in front of children or have attended “drag queen story hour” events have been outed as convicted child sex predators.

The British police conducted a controlled explosion outside Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, detonating a bag taken from a man who they said had thrown suspected shotgun cartridges onto palace grounds just days ahead of King Charles III’s coronation.

 

There were no injuries and no shots were fired, but the man was swiftly detained and subsequently arrested after he was found to be carrying a knife, London’s Metropolitan Police said. He was not in possession of a firearm and the incident is not currently being treated as terror related, they added.

 

The man was detained after throwing items “suspected to be shotgun cartridges” and was found to be carrying “a suspicious bag,” the police said in a statement. The police said they conducted a controlled explosion on the bag “as a precaution” following an assessment by specialists who arrived on scene.

 

They did not say what made the bag suspicious, or whether it turned out to contain anything dangerous.

 

The episode came amid simmering tensions in the run-up to the event on Saturday when Charles will be formally crowned. The Metropolitan Police sent warning letters this week to anti-monarchists planning to protest at the coronation. New laws that will come into effect on Wednesday will give the authorities powers to swiftly arrest and search potential disrupters, and will carry the threat of stiff prison sentences.

 

The motives of the man responsible for the incident on Tuesday were not immediately clear. The BBC reported that the king and queen consort were not at the palace at the time, but the Metropolitan Police would not confirm this.

Asked what he expected of the much-heralded Ukrainian counteroffensive, Milley told Foreign Affairs that the US and its European NATO partners have helped Ukraine train and equip “about nine brigades worth of combined arms, armor, and mech[anized] infantry type forces” over the past several months, as well as some light infantry.

 

Kiev’s forces “right now have the capability to attack, they can conduct offensive operations, and they also have the capability to defend, significantly enhanced from what they were just a year ago for conventional operations,” he said. “They’ve got a significant amount of planning and coordination and all of that to do, if they were to do an offensive operation.”

 

According to Milley, if the Ukrainians do launch an offensive, anything is possible, from collapsing the Russian front entirely to no success at all.

 

I do think, though, that the probability of either side achieving their political objectives – war is about politics through the sole use of military means – I think that’s going to be very difficult, very challenging. And frankly, I don’t think the probability of that is likely in this year.

 

Milley claimed the Russian military had suffered 250,000 casualties and that the army, society and economy have all been severely impacted by the conflict. He would not speculate about Ukrainian casualties. The Kremlin has laughed off US estimates of Russian deaths as fabricated “out of nowhere.”

 

The US general stuck by those claims, however, and also asserted that Russia had “failed” to achieve any of its objectives in Ukraine. Based on that, he argued that “rational folks” in Moscow would be convinced “over either months or a year or two” to negotiate, “because they’re not going to win.”

 

Congressman Michael McCaul, who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said on Monday that the offensive needed to present a success so the West could keep funding Kiev, “after which we can then maybe have negotiations, to finally resolve this.”

 

The bulk of the podcast was devoted to China, with Milley arguing that the US “should do what it can to make sure” that Russia and China don’t set up a strategic military alliance. He dismissed the present level of military ties between Moscow and Beijing as “very, very modest.”

 

Milley also maintained that both Russia and China were aware of the US military might and did not wish a direct confrontation with Washington.

House Republicans expand Biden admin ‘censorship’ probe

Republican lawmakers are investigating whether the US government colluded with Big Tech to undermine free speech

 

Republican Foreign Affairs Committee members have requested access to a trove of State Department records tied to alleged coordination between the government’s Global Engagement Center (GEC) interagency and social media companies to censor online alleged ‘misinformation’ and ‘disinformation’.

 

In a Monday letter sent by Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, he – along with seven other Republican lawmakers who co-signed – states that the GEC “continues to stray from its founding missions through its subsidized censorship of free speech and disfavored opinion.”

 

It added that the committee had concerns about the GEC’s “current evolutionary trajectory” and had asked the body to provide records on grants paid to various third-party entities.

 

The letter, which was obtained by the Washington Examiner and published online on Tuesday, comes as part of Republican-led efforts to investigate if the federal government had manipulated social media companies to stifle free speech online.

 

The document also argues that “merely labeling speech ‘misinformation’ or ‘disinformation’ does not strip away First Amendment [to free speech] protections.”

 

On Friday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio, issued subpoenas to three federal agencies – including the GEC – as part of its probe into Big Tech companies’ alleged censorship.

 

“The Twitter Files and other public reporting have exposed how the federal government has pressured and colluded with Big Tech and other intermediaries to censor certain viewpoints in ways that undermine First Amendment principles,” a Friday release from Jordan’s office stated.

 

The ‘Twitter Files’ refers to internal communications between employees of the platform, government agencies, and other third parties, which were made public earlier this year, and appear to reveal unconstitutional collusion to censor undesirable narratives.

 

The Obama-era GEC’s remit, according to its government website, is to “expose and counter foreign state and non-state propaganda.”

 

In September 2022, the State Department’s inspector general concluded that theGEC had not been adequately vetting its methods on countering foreign threats. It was also warned that it was not taking proper care when awarding grants overseas.

 

These conclusions led to Republicans delaying a decision to reauthorize the GEC, the lawmakers said in their Monday letter. The GEC’s legal status will cease on December 23, 2024 unless it is re-authorized as a government body.

 

The State Department declined to comment when asked about the matter, the Washington Examiner reported.

Kiev-backed Orthodox church to switch Christmas date

The Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) announced plans to adopt a new liturgical calendar not used in Russia

 

The Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), backed by Kiev, has announced its plans to potentially adopt a new liturgical calendar. The move would make it closer to the Catholic and Protestant denominations while breaking up with traditions followed by the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) and the Russian Orthodox Church. The calendar is used to determine the dates of holy days like Christmas or Easter.

 

According to Ukraine’s Strana.ua news media outlet, theOCU might start celebrating Christmas on December 25 instead of January 7, as it used to under the canonical UOC.

 

Orthodox churches usually stick to their own Orthodox liturgical calendar, which differs from the Catholic and Protestant ones. Five of them, including the Russian Orthodox Church – the largest Orthodox Church in the world with 150 million worshippers around the globe – as well as Jerusalem, the Serbian, Georgian, and Polish Orthodox Churches, still follow the old Julian calendar. The Catholics and Protestants use the Gregorian calendar, introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in the 16th century.

 

The Constantinople Patriarchate, together with 10 other Orthodox churches, adopted the Revised Julian Calendar in the early 20th century. The reform made the dates of all fixed holy days, like Christmas, similar to those of the Catholic Church. Moveable holy days like Easter are still determined in line with the old Julian calendar under this new system.

 

Now, the OCU wants to adopt the revised calendar, arguing that it is more "accurate." The Kiev-backed church has been "considering the calendar reform and taking relevant steps … for a long time," its head, Metropolitan Epiphany, told Ukraine’s Gazeta.ua media outlet. The final decision is to be made at the bishops’ council in May, he added.

 

The reform would allow the OCU to switch to a "more accurate calendar and avoid gradually moving the fixed holy days in the future," he claimed. According to the Ukrainian media, some OCU dioceses adopted the new calendar even before the council’s decision. In Odessa, the local OCU priests announced adopting the new calendar as early as January.

 

The move comes amid Kiev’s crackdown on the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The UOC has historical ties with the Russian Orthodox Church and was accused by Ukrainian officials of being a security threat amid the military conflict with Russia. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has been raiding UOC churches, ostensibly searching for weapon stockpiles and evidence of treason.

 

Six Ukrainian regions have outright outlawed the UOC on their territory and favored the OCU. Established only in 2018, the OCU has been recognized only by three other Orthodox churches. The UOC considers it heretical.

 

President Vladimir Zelensky’s government has prepared a bill that would ban the UOC in Ukraine, but the parliament has yet to vote on it. Moscow protested against the persecution of Orthodox Christians by Ukrainian authorities, but none of the human rights bodies in the West have responded so far.

NYC's Adams: Abbott's Migrant-Busing Targets 'Black-Run' Cities

 

Texas Governor Greg Abbott migrant bus service to is ramping back up in a big way – and mayors in destination cities are fuming, especially New York City's Eric Adams and Chicago's outgoing Lori Lightfoot.

 

"More than 57,000 migrants, mostly hailing from Latin America, have arrived in [New York City] since last spring, while Chicago has fielded more than 8,000 newcomers," Politico reports.

 

In a statement issued Monday, Adams accused Abbott of targeting cities based on the skin color of their elected officials:

 

“This weekend, we learned that Governor Abbott is once again deciding to play politics with people's lives by resuming the busing of asylum seekers to New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, and Washington, D.C.

 

Not only is this behavior morally bankrupt and devoid of any concern for the well-being of asylum seekers, but it is also impossible to ignore the fact that Abbott is now targeting five cities run by Black mayors. Put plainly, Abbott is using this crisis to hurt Black-run cities."

 

We pause to note that, where America's largest metropolises are concerned, "black-run cities" is increasingly a redundancy.

 

Moving on from his implicit accusation of racism, Adams went on to accuse Abbott of shipping migrants to New York against their will, and having security guards "hold them hostage" when they tried to get off in other cities.

 

He also blamed border states for the overload of immigrants while asking President Biden for help. "With a vacuum of leadership from border states, we need the federal government to step in and provide us with support and to prevent this cruelty from continuing.” That's an interesting angle, given the federal government routinely opposes states taking border security into their own hands.

 

Even Adams has been increasingly critical of the Biden administration's immigration policies. In April, he said, "The city is being destroyed by the migrant crisis…The national government has turned its back on New York City…This is in the lap of the president of the United States." Reiterating that desperate messaging on Monday, Adams said, "This crisis is more than one city can handle."

 

Adams isn't the only mayor attacking Abbott for sharing the wealth of northbound diversity pouring into the country. On Sunday, Chicago's Lightfoot, who will exit office on May 15 after a losing reelection bid, sent a letter to Abbott asking him to "stop this inhumane and dangerous action."

The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) has released its “Dirty Dozen” list for 2023, calling attention to groups facilitating sexual exploitation.

 

The center’s annual list, released on May 2, has identified social media platforms Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Roblox, and Reddit as among the top offenders for contributing to exploitation.

 

Additionally, the group asserts that Spotify, the Apple App Store, Kik, GitHub, eBay, Discord, and OnlyFans have rounded out its “Dirty Dozen” list for 2023.

 

The group is asking that concerned parties sign petitions that will be sent to each company requesting that they take action to mitigate the damage their companies reportedly facilitate.

 

The group outlined the alleged offenses of each company starting with Apple, calling them the “primary ‘gatekeeper’ to what America’s children are accessing online … as well as who is accessing them.”

 

According to NCOSE, Apple’s App Store is “deceptive to the core,” noting specifically misleading age ratings and descriptions that add risks and dangers to children.

 

In addition to groups who have already received backlash for potential contributions to exploitation, including OnlyFans and Snapchat, NCOSE pointed out potential harms with some less obvious businesses, including eBay and Spotify.

 

According to the center, a parent alleged that porn is available on Spotify, potentially allowing children access to the content.

 

“Pornography [including content that normalizes sexual violence, child sexual abuse, and incest] can be easily found on Spotify in the form of thumbnails graphically depicting sexual activity and nudity, as well as ‘audio pornography,'” NCOSE reported.

 

This is despite Spotify’s claims that it prohibits sexually explicit content.

 

When it comes to eBay, NCOSE asserts that: “Whatever it is, you can get it on eBay,” and that extends to childlike sex abuse dolls and spycams advertised specifically for filming women without their consent.

 

NCOSE has been conducting analysis on groups and businesses with potentially unethical or dangerous business practices for more than a decade.

 

In March of this year, it released its “decade in review,” saying that the annual campaign has “galvanized thousands” to “call on corporations, government agencies, and organizations to change problematic policies and practices.”

 

“Since its inception in 2013, the Dirty Dozen List has galvanized thousands of individuals like you to call on corporations, government agencies, and organizations to change problematic policies and practices,” the group’s website said about the project.

 

NCOSE claims to have seen “major victories” over Google, Netflix, TikTok, Hilton Worldwide, Verizon, Walmart, the U.S. Department of Defense, and others, due to its Dirty Dozen project in the past.

 

When explaining what the group does, NCOSE describes its work, saying it has “built the infrastructure that is equipped to stand toe-to-toe against the world’s pornographers, pimps/sex traffickers, sex buyers, and exploitation profiteers.”

 

The group’s board of directors includes Ron Degass, co-founder of Covenant Eyes, Former U.S. attorney Ken Sukhia, and the retired Bishop of Arlington, Bishop Paul Loverde.

 

A Discord spokesperson responded to The Epoch Times’s request for comment, saying: “Child-harm content is appalling, unacceptable, and has no place on Discord or in society.

 

“We work relentlessly to keep this content off our service and take immediate action when we become aware of it, including banning users, shutting down servers, and when appropriate, engaging with the proper authorities and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).”

 

The Epoch Times has also reached out via email to the other 11 businesses listed but did not receive a response on the subject in time for publication.

Another train derailed by sabotage in Russian region bordering Ukraine – media

Damage to a railroad track in the Bryansk Region has caused a crash, local outlets have reported

 

A freight train with some 20 cars derailed on Tuesday outside the city of Bryansk, in a Russian region near the northern border of Ukraine. Authorities have blamed the incident on “interference by unauthorized persons in the work of railway transport.”

 

According to local media, an explosion damaged the tracks while a freight train was transiting the non-electrified portion of the line near the Snezhetskaya station, located southeast of Bryansk city. Russian Railways said the incident happened at around 7:47pm local time.

 

Preliminary reports have not indicated any casualties. First responders have been dispatched to the scene, along with recovery equipment, the railway company said.

A Scientific American essay deemed “embarrassing” and “pseudo-scientific” is facing backlash after insisting human sex is “not binary,” while arguing claims to the contrary “are not about biology but are about trying to restrict who counts as a full human in society.”

 

The Monday article authored by Agustín Fuentes, a professor of anthropology at Princeton University, bears the blunt title, “Here’s Why Human Sex Is Not Binary.”

 

In it, Fuentes argues that “ova don’t make a woman, and sperm don’t make a man.”

 

The piece begins by pointing to those “politicians, pundits and even a few scientists, who maintain that whether our bodies make ova or sperm are all we need to know about sex.”

 

“They assert that men and women are defined by their production of these gamete cells, making them a distinct biological binary pair, and that our legal rights and social possibilities should flow from this divide. Men are men. Women are women. Simple,” Fuentes writes.

 

However, he claims, the notion that human sex “rests on a biological binary of making either sperm or ova” — the concept underlying the previous claims — is, in Fuentes’ words, “bad science.”

 

According to him, “the production of gametes does not sufficiently describe sex biology in animals, nor is it the definition of a woman or a man.”

 

He continues:

 

The animal kingdom does not limit itself to only one biological binary regarding how a species makes gametes. Scientifically speaking, animals with the capacity to produce ova are generally called “female” and sperm producers “male.” While most animal species fall into the “two types of gametes produced by two versions of the reproductive tract” model, many don’t. Some worms produce both. Some fish start producing one kind and then switch to the other, and some switch back and forth throughout their lives. There are even lizards that have done away with one type all together (sic). SPLC sued for defamation after labeling conservative group an 'anti-immigrant hate group'

 

The SPLC had asked the judge to dismiss King’s defamation case against them, but US Judge W. Keith Watkins has refused to toss it out.

 

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has recently come under fire for stamping a group with the “hate” status for allegedly being anti-immigrant, and now the accused group is taking legal action against the organization, per the Washington Times.

 

DA King, the founder of the Georgia-based Dustin Inman Society, has claimed that SPLC has defamed the group by referring to it as anti-immigrant. While the group does express opposition toward illegal immigration, King has made known that the group supports legal immigration, noting that there are legal immigrants on the board of the organization.

 

The report stated that SPLC had asked the judge to dismiss King’s defamation case against them, but US Judge W. Keith Watkins has refused to toss it out. The judge said that he would give King the opportunity to form a case against the SPLC.

 

“Plaintiffs have ‘nudged’ their defamation claims - premised on SPLC’s designation of DIS as an ‘anti-immigrant hate group’ - ‘across the line from conceivable to plausible,” Watkins said.

 

A report noted that it is going to be difficult for King to prove that the SPLC had deliberately acted with malice in labeling his society as a hate group, noting that the defamation case is going to be nearly impossible to win, per the Marietta Daily Journal.

 

However, Tyler O’Neil, author of “Making Hate Pay,” said that it is significant that a judge would even allow such a case to proceed, saying: “This is the very first defamation lawsuit specifically challenging the SPLC’s ‘hate group’ accusation to make it to discovery.”

 

“Conservatives who have faced routine defamation may finally get some justice, and the American people may finally see behind the curtain how the SPLC runs its ‘hate group’ scam.”

The FBI has actively worked alongside the SPLC in making decisions about who to target, including keeping a close eye on what they have characterized as “radical traditionalist Catholic ideology.” When this information was eventually revealed, the FBI was forced to recant the memo that contained the worrying information.

One man in custody after firing bullet at FOX13 station in Memphis

His parents have identified the alleged gunman as Jarred Nathan, 25.

 

One man is in custody after allegedly firing one round at a local news station in Memphis, Tenn.

 

Around 11:30 am. on Tuesday, an individual fired one round from an AR-style rifle, which subsequently fell outside the front door of the FOX13 station lobby, the outlet confirmed. There were no reported injuries.

 

The alleged gunman subsequently fled to the nearby Ubee's restaurant and barricaded himself within. Law enforcement arrived on scene and took the individual into custody.

 

His parents have identified the alleged gunman as Jarred Nathan, 25. They called FOX13 to inform the station that he was experiencing a mental breakdown. Nathan has received mental health treatment since he was 16 years old.

 

"His mamma going to get him some help, today," his mother told FOX13. "This is a reflection of why his daddy should have been there. You teach your boys how to be men. They need their fathers… It has not been an easy road for me, as a parent."

 

"I want the viewers to know that he's not a bad person at all," she went on. "He one of the nicest and kindest you will meet. Everybody has another side to them. I think my son is crying out for attention because he needs some help. Anybody who would come to the news place and shoot at anybody, that is a cry for some help."

 

Prior to the shooting, Nathan reportedly engaged with a FOX13 employee to whom he showed the gun. That employee ended the interaction and Nathan fired the weapon at the building entrance.

Leaving one’s natural family behind, even literally, was regularly expected of Jesus’s first followers, at least for the duration of Jesus’s three-year earthly ministry (though it appears that subsequently the disciples resumed normal family relations, 1 Cor. 9:5). This is made clear by what is perhaps the earliest account of Jesus’s calling of his disciples in Mark’s Gospel, where Jesus calls Simon, his brother Andrew, and the sons of Zebedee, and these fishermen leave their natural vocation and family contexts in order to follow Jesus (Mark 1:16–20 par.
