Wall Street titans appear to be having an increasingly hard time reconciling the conflicting goals of progressive activism and shareholder returns.

Until recently, many banks, asset managers, and insurers portrayed these goals as complementary, asserting that climate risk is financial risk and that the competence of management can be assessed by its commitment to social justice goals.

Today, however, those narratives are rarely heard.

BlackRock, JPMorgan Chase, and State Street recently exited from Climate Action 100+, a coalition of the world’s largest fund managers that pledges to “ensure the world’s largest corporate greenhouse gas emitters take necessary action on climate change.”

On the heels of that exit, 16 conservative state attorneys general have demanded answers from BlackRock’s directors regarding the firm’s continued membership in other similar groups, which they assert could be a conflict of interest with its fiduciary responsibility to investors.

“We applaud BlackRock’s reevaluation of its status [with Climate Action 100+],” the attorneys general wrote in a Feb. 27 letter to BlackRock’s directors, “but we also note that BlackRock remains a member of other groups such the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative (NZAM), the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI), and Ceres.”

A new facility is open in Greensboro to house unaccompanied child migrants, but there is little information about how the center will operate.

The Influx Care Facilities (ICF) at the Greensboro Children's Center is now operational and ready to receive children. However, operators told WRAL News no children are currently scheduled to be placed there.

The 100-acre property at 4334 Hobbs Road is surrounded by a fence with security guards posted at all entrances. WRAL News visited on Friday and saw very few people coming and going.

The ICF Greensboro Children's Center in northwest Greensboro was formerly the American Hebrew Academy.

Government documents show the state Department of Health and Human Services is leasing the property, paying more than $50 million for five years.

According to the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), migrant children ages 13 to 17 will be housed there temporarily, for about two or three weeks, while family and sponsors are located.

The facility has the capacity for up to 800 beds.

WRAL News spoke to residents who said they support the facility.

"They're just kids," said Greensboro resident Heather Bell. "They just need a safe place to be."

"Finding a place to stay for children, it's a wonderful thing," agreed Zach Sharron. "I don't think there's anything better on Planet Earth … as far as I'm concerned as somebody thankful to have citizenship in the United States and North Carolina, [it's] absolutely great."

Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan posted information from the ORR on Facebook, writing, "It is important to note that no children will be placed at the facility at this time while ORR monitors referrals and overall capacity needs. ORR will notify stakeholders before children are placed at the ICF."

WRAL News reached out to city and county leaders to learn more about the facility but received no reply.

Last week, North Carolina congressional leaders wrote a letter to Xavier Becerra, secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, expressing frustration about a "lack of transparency" regarding plans for the facility.

The letter reads in part: "We are frustrated by this sudden announcement."

Lawmakers also said they have had significant delays in response to their inquiries for information.

WRAL News on Friday asked the ORR for a statement and was told to expect a response in two business days.

Current year US military is hilarious

So, the US lit off a Minuteman-3 recently. This system, with origins in the 1950s, is the land-based part of the US nuclear deterrence triad. The test didn’t go well; it blew up right after launch, probably from rotten capacitors. The google machine tells me this isn’t an isolated incident; the last time we tried lighting one off, the same thing happened. We do have a sea based ballistic missile deterrent in the Trident-2. Unfortunately none of the American cruise missiles are particularly long range or stealthy (there was a stealthy one, retired), all are subsonic, and they have shorter ranges than the Russian gizmos, which also come in supersonic and hypersonic varieties. Rooskies also have newer generations of ballistic missiles, and are really good at shooting down cruise missiles, so there’s that. Supposedly they also have nuclear tidal wave torpedoes capable of wiping out US coastal areas in radioactive sea water, SLAM hypersonic nuclear ramjet cruise missiles and who knows what else. Pretty obvious who wins a nuclear war scenario: it won’t be the US. I mean, nobody wins a nuclear war, but the days of US supremacy or even basic competence with maintaining nuclear forces are long over.

There’s talk of making girlbosses register for the draft; it almost got out of committee. Ominous signs for certain. I’d almost enjoy the spectacle of delusional American womanhood being forced to join the Army, except I like my young female relatives.
