The New York Post has created a stir in Washington with its report that a whistleblower claims that the CIA reportedly blocked federal investigators from interviewing Kevin Morris, the entertainment lawyer who has subsidized the expenses and bought the art of Hunter Biden. (For full disclosure, Morris previously threatened me with a defamation lawsuit over my writing about his representation of Hunter. Fortunately, I have not received any summons from either the courts or the CIA). We will have to wait for more details on the allegations, but the response of the CIA struck me as rather curious.

Puerto Rico suffered catastrophic damage from the 2017 Hurricanes Irma and Maria as workers are still working on rebuilding the power grid. Residents on the island still experience rolling electricity blackouts.

 

Harris spoke about the importance of rooftop solar panels providing power for homes suffering the lack of electricity.

 

‘We are talking about people’s homes, not only in terms of a structure but the community and of course the island and what we all must understand should be a priority for restoring, not only the beauty but the infrastructure that then houses so much good and important work,’ she said during her speech.

 

The home Harris visited had a Puerto Rico flag draped from the roof, as she celebrated the green energy initiative as an important recovery milestone. Protesters also took to the streets ahead of Harris' arrival demanding statehood for the island territory and a ceasefire in the Israel war with Gaza. Demonstrators waved Puerto Rico and Gaza flags while holding signs protesting her visit and even set fire to American flags.

Three children killed in Moscow concert hall attack – hospital data

Some of those hospitalized are as young as seven, according to officials

 

Three children have diedas a result of a terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall outside Moscow on Friday night, according to hospital data posted on the Moscow Region’s Health Ministry website.

 

At least five children were among those hospitalized after the massacre, officials have said.

 

The venue was booked for a rock concert when the atrocity took place, with heavily armed gunmen breaking into the building and indiscriminately shooting visitors. They then reportedly set fire to the building.

 

The death toll stands at more than 60, although that number may rise, the Russian Investigative Committee told the media early on Saturday.

 

Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko has said that of the roughly 115 people that have been hospitalized,at least five are children. Their ages range fromseven to 12, and two 12-year-olds are currently in serious condition. An11-year-old girl is in moderately seriouscondition with a gunshot wound, whileher mother was among those killed, local authorities reported. Her father and older sister survived unscathed.

 

Earlier, children’s ombudswoman Maria Lvova-Belova told broadcaster Rossiya 24 that a boy with a gunshot wound was among the children being treated.

 

The Crocus City complex, located in Krasnogorsk, just northwest of Moscow, includes sports and leisure facilities besides the concert venue where the attack took place. A number of other children were there that evening, visiting from nearby towns and taking part in competitions. All were evacuated unharmed, local media reported.

 

Several witnesses say there were multiple families with their children among the Friday night crowd in the building when the shooting began.

 

“People carried their children in their arms. No one knew where it was safe at the time, there was this incomprehensible feeling of what could meet us in the hall, or on the street,” lawmaker Ayder Metshin, who was there for the concert, told RT.

 

He added that he and other concertgoers had stayed low to the ground andexited at the back of the hall along with the musicians, before making their way out of the venue.

 

“There was a feeling of some kind of denial, I couldn’t believe that this was happening,” he said.

Before there was the deep state FDA, there was the “dedicated to patient safety” and “do no harm” FDA. With respect to the national blood supply, the old FDA reduced the risk of HIV transmission (and the chance of acquiring AIDS) into the nation’s blood supply by preventing it from occurring. Period, full stop. Gay men were not allowed to give blood, and if they lied during the blood donating process, blood was still tested and destroyed as a biohazard if the hepatitis virus, HIV, or AIDS were detected.

Everyone behind Moscow terror attack will be punished – Putin

Russian president has addressed the nation in the aftermath of the deadly attack at a concert hall outside Moscow

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday addressed the nation about the Crocus City Hall shooting, denouncing it as a “bloody and barbaric” terrorist attack and vowing to punish all involved. At least 115 people have been killed and over 120 wounded in Friday evening's massacre.

 

In his video address, thepresident declared a national day of mourning on Sunday, March 24, to commemorate the victims of the attack.

 

Putin expressed his gratitude to all first responders, to law enforcement, and to ordinary citizens, too, who helped the victims of the attack. At the same time, the president stressed another effort is underway, focused on the prevention of any further attacks.

 

”In Moscow and Moscow Region, in all regions of the country, additional anti-terrorism and anti-saboteur measures have been introduced,” he announced, adding: “The main thing now is to prevent those who are behind this bloodbath from committing a new crime.”

 

Vowing to punish all conspirators behind Friday night’s attack, Putin noted that, so far, 11 suspects, including four perpetrators who directly participated in the shooting spree, have been detained. The attackers were caught fleeing “towards Ukraine, where, according to preliminary data, a window to cross the border was prepared on the Ukrainian side,” he added.

China has backed the right of the Palestinian people to use armed force to combat Israel's occupation of their land, calling it an "an inalienable right well founded in international law".

The comments on Thursday were made by the Chinese ambassador to the UN, Zhang Jun, during the fourth day of public hearings held by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Netherlands.

Representatives of 52 countries are addressing the ICJ on Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian land.

Beijing’s envoy said there were "various people (who) freed themselves from colonial rule" and they could use "all available means, including armed struggle".

He described the Palestinian use of armed resistance as legitimate and not an act of terrorism.

 

"The struggle waged by peoples for their liberation, right to self-determination, including armed struggle against colonialism, occupation, aggression, domination against foreign forces should not be considered terror acts," Zhang Jun told the court.

 

In his speech, Jun criticized Israeli policies, characterizing them as “oppression that has severely undermined and impeded the exercises and full realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination".

The ICJ’s public hearings, which will be held until February 26, come after a UN General Assembly resolution requesting an ICJ advisory opinion.

The number of states participating in the oral proceedings is the highest of any case since the ICJ's establishment in 1945 and is separate to the more publicized genocide case brought by South Africa. A panel of 15 judges are expected to take about six months to deliberate before issuing an advisory opinion.

Besides China, other countries scheduled to participate in the hearings include Hungary, France, South Africa and Egypt.

International bodies, including the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the African Union will also take part. Israel will not participate but has sent written observations to the court.

The Justice Department launched the National Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) Resource Center (the Center) which will provide training and technical assistance to law enforcement officials, prosecutors, attorneys, judges, clinicians, victim service and social service providers, community organizations, and behavioral health professionals responsible for implementing laws designed to keep guns out of the hands of people who pose a threat to themselves or others.

 

“The launch of the National Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center will provide our partners across the country with valuable resources to keep firearms out of the hands of individuals who pose a threat to themselves or others,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “The establishment of the Center is the latest example of the Justice Department’s work to use every tool provided by the landmark Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to protect communities from gun violence.”

 

ERPO laws, which are modeled off domestic violence protection orders, create a civil process allowing law enforcement, family members (in most states), and medical professionals or other groups (in some states) to petition a court to temporarily prohibit someone at risk of harming themselves or others from purchasing and possessing firearms for the duration of the order.

 

In 2023, the Justice Department’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP) awarded $238 million to states, territories, and the District of Columbia under the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP), which was created by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and is designed to help jurisdictions implement crisis intervention strategies, including ERPO programs. In addition, OJP awarded $4 million to support training and technical assistance under Byrne SCIP, including $2 million that was awarded to the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions to establish the ERPO Resource Center. In collaboration with OJP’s Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), the Center will support states, local governments, law enforcement, prosecutors, attorneys, judges, clinicians, victim service providers, and behavioral health and other social service providers in their efforts to implement ERPO programs to fit local needs, share resources and promising practices with the field, and help ensure that funding received through Byrne SCIP is effectively utilized.

 

“Supporting our law enforcement and community partners in curbing the scourge of gun violence is more critical than ever,” said Acting Associate Attorney General Benjamin C. Mizer. “In addition to other resources leveraged across the Justice Department, this Center will provide communities with new tools and technical assistance to help them implement effective crisis intervention strategies and reduce gun violence.”

 

“OJP’s investment in ERPO programs demonstrates the Department’s commitment to addressing the gun violence crisis in the United States,” said OJP Assistant Attorney General Amy L. Solomon. “This crisis cannot be solved at one level of government. We must use all of our resources and collaborate at the federal, state, and local levels to find innovative, evidence-based, and holistic solutions to help keep American communities safe.”

 

Through the Center and its newly launched website

 

, states, local governments, law enforcement, prosecutors, attorneys, judges, clinicians, victim service providers, and behavioral health and other social service providers will have direct access to critical information that will enhance their ability to reduce firearm homicides and suicides. The website will be maintained and updated to include newly developed resources for the field created through the Center, in partnership with BJA. The website also provides a platform for the Center to highlight emerging and promising practices in successful ERPO implementation and connect states and localities to innovative strategies to reduce gun violence and save lives.

 

As of this month, 21 states and the District of Columbia have enacted ERPO laws. Successful and effective ERPO implementation requires a comprehensive and holistic approach that incorporates a wide range of stakeholders. The Center is designed to provide resources consistent with that need.

The novel chronicles the adventures of Mark Watney, an astronaut stranded at the fictional Mars mission Ares 3 landing site corresponding to the coordinates of this cropped HiRISE frame. Moscow attack terrorists planned to flee to Ukraine – FSB

Russia’s domestic security service has reported that four assailants were detained in Bryansk Region near the border

 

The terrorists who attacked Crocus City Hall in Moscow Region on Friday evening planned to flee to Ukraine, the FSB security service said in a statement on Saturday.

 

Four assailants were apprehended in Bryansk Region near the border, and are being transported to Moscow. According to the FSB,the perpetrators of the terrorist attack– which has left at least 115 people dead –had contacts on Ukrainian soil.

 

“After committing the crime, the perpetrators attempted to flee, driving in a car in the direction of the Russia-Ukraine border,” the authorities stated. However, “all four [suspected] terrorists” were detained within several hours.

 

Seven other people have been apprehended following the mass shooting, the security service said.The attack was meticulously planned, with a cache of weapons amassed beforehand, the statement added.

 

The investigation is ongoing, with the security service working to determine all circumstances surrounding the case.

 

The tragic events unfolded on Friday evening at Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk, on the western outskirts of the Russian capital. The concert venue, with an estimated capacity of 7,500, was almost full when the terrorists struck.

 

After firing indiscriminately with assault rifles at the fleeing crowd of panicked visitors, the assailants then set fire to rows of chairs inside the concert hall. The blaze quickly engulfed much of the building, including its roof.

The Polish government is “mentally” preparing its population for the country’s direct involvement in the Ukraine conflict, former US Army officer Stanislav Krapivnik told RT on Thursday. He claimed that recent allegations made by topPolish officials regarding Russia’s supposed plans to attack NATO are intended to justify a preemptive military operation.

 

Over the past several weeks, a number of senior civilian and military officials from multiple NATO member states warned that Moscow could strike the bloc in the coming years. On Monday, the chief of the Polish General Staff, General Wieslaw Kukula, said that “Russia is preparing for a conflict with NATO” in the next decade. He added that Moscow “will exploit any opportunity and any emerging weakness that can be operationalized to achieve its own interests.”

 

According to Krapivnik,such statements are part of a “psy-op operation” by Warsawdesigned to “prepare the people for war.”He suggested that, since “Russophobia in Poland is tantamount to a national characteristic,”such narratives are being readily lapped up by most of the population.

 

The retired US Army officer predicted that the Polish government would then start advocating a “first strike” to prevent Russian forces from reaching the country’s border.

 

Krapivnik told RT that, while many NATO countries would like to avoid entering a direct confrontation with Russia, the bloc would inevitably be dragged into a conflict if more ‘trigger-happy’ nations like Poland, the Czech Republic and the Baltic states act first.

Sweden’s total fertility rate – the number of children an average woman gives birth to during her lifetime – sank to a record low in 2023, and is on course to plunge further this year, Sveriges Television (SVT) reported on Friday, citing Statistics Sweden.

 

According to the report, the rate was 1.45 children per woman last year, the lowest since records began in 1749. The number of births in 2023 was the smallest since 2003, when the total population was nearly 1.6 million fewer than the current 10.5 million.

 

“There has been a downward trend since 2010. We see that it occurs throughout the country and both among women who were born in Sweden and who immigrated from abroad,” Guadalupe Andersson, an analyst at Statistics Sweden, told the broadcaster.

 

January 2024 data showed that the downward trend is continuing. Only 7,900 children were born across the country in the first month of the year, 350 fewer than in January 2023.

 

“We seem to be on our way to a new low… The reason is unclear,” analysts said.

Ukrainian drones hit Russia’s Belgorod Region

Kiev’s forces have once again attacked Russia’s border Belgorod Region with drones, killing one person and injuring two others, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Saturday.

 

“We’ve had a rough morning,” Gladkov wrote on his Telegram channel, stating that unmanned aerial vehicles had attacked the Stary Oskol and Chernyansky districts, and that regional capital, Belgorod, was hit by artillery –resulting in damage to private houses and apartment buildings, and an unspecified number of casualties.

“Now the data is being clarified, I will definitely inform you a little later,” the governor wrote, stating that all construction and emergency services are working at the scene and containing fires, particularly at one private residential building.

Media reports have also stated that a business center in Belgorod wasdamaged in Saturday morning’s attack.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported onFriday morning that it had stopped several attempts by Kiev to carry out terrorist attacksusing aircraft-type UAVs, and that air defense systems had intercepted 12 drones over several Russian territories, namely Bryansk, Belgorod, Voronezh and Saratov regions.

The ministry also stated that Ukrainian forces attempted to carry out a terrorist attack on Russian territories using Czech-made RM-70 Vampire multiple launch rocket systems. However, it reported that Russian air defense systems hadthwarted the strike and destroyed 11 missiles over Belgorod Region.

Belgorod Region, along with other Russian territories bordering Ukraine, is frequently targeted by Kiev’s drones and artillery. One of the deadliest strikes in recent weeks occurred on December 30, killing 25 people and injuring more than 100 others in Belgorod.

US officials have repeatedly warned Ukrainian military commanders that their attacks onRussian oil infrastructure could trigger global energy price hikes, the Financial Times revealed on Friday. Washington is reportedly worried that this could threaten Joe Biden’s re-election bid.

 

The White House has “grown increasingly frustrated by brazen Ukrainian drone attacks”on Russian refineries, terminals and other oil infrastructure, the British newspaper quoted one of its sources as saying.

 

Washington’s objections come months before a presidential election in the US, where “Biden faces a tough re-election battle this year with petrol prices on the rise, increasing almost 15% this year,” the newspaper noted.

 

”Nothing terrifies a sitting American president more than a surge in pump prices during an election year,” former White House energy adviser Bob McNally told the FT.

 

The Ukrainian security service (SBU) and military intelligence service (GUR) were behind the string of recent attacks, the newspaper said. The warnings from Washington were delivered directly to senior officials in those agencies, sources said.

 

Kiev reportedly justified the strikes by claiming they undermine the supply of fuel to frontline troops and hit Moscow’s profits from the oil trade. They also “deliver a symbolic blow by bringing the war closer to Moscow.”

 

Some sources also suggested that Kiev was using the strategy to pressure Washington to approve $60 billionin proposed aid for Ukraine.

 

The sabotage operations could reduce supply to the global oil market and push prices up, the Americans reportedly told Ukrainian officials.Moscow could also shut down the CPC pipeline, which goes from Kazakhstan to Russia’s port of Novorossiysk andis used by Western firms giants ExxonMobil and Chevron, the FT said.

 

There were at least a dozen significant attacks on Russian oil infrastructure by Ukrainian forces this year, according to official statements and media reports. Nasa to send discs depicting ‘essence of humanity’ to the Moon

Sapphire discs etched with “the essence of humanity” will be sent to the Moon under Nasa’s Artemis programme to act as a repository of human knowledge.

 

The project, titled Sanctuary On The Moon, includes examples of mathematics, culture, palaeontology, art and science as well as the human genomes of a man and a woman.

 

The discs mimic the golden phonographs sent with the Voyager spacecraft, the first ships to leave the Solar System, which contained greetings in 55 different languages, messages from world leaders and even a human heartbeat.

 

The new discs include schematics for Nasa’s Saturn V rocket and lunar landing modules which took astronauts to the Moon in the Apollo mission, as well as paintings by Leonardo da Vinci and Vincent van Gogh, and The Declaration of Human Rights.

 

There are also celestial and terrestrial maps, as well as data on anatomy, astrophysics and particle physics, phases of the Moon and developments such as the combustion engine and flying machines.

 

“We are delighted to take Sanctuary to the Moon,” said Joel Kearns, Nasa’s deputy associate administrator for exploration in the agency’s Science Mission Directorate.

 

“We believe that this internationally curated repository of knowledge on the Moon will serve as an inspiration today and for many generations to come.”

 

The discs are the idea of Benoit Faiveley, a French engineer who has worked with a team of international scientists, researchers, designers and artists to choose what images to place on each disc.

 

Mr Faiveley himself appears on one of the discs dressed in an astronaut suit.

 

The discs, which will be placed in a durable aluminium capsule, will be delivered to the Moon’s surface using an automatic space probe under the Commercial Lunar Payload Services contract with Nasa.

 

Mr Faiveley said: “The only thing left over from ancient cultures are tangible objects, hieroglyphs, stones, scripts, paintings that lasted over centuries and millenniums.

 

“So we took a similar path.

 

“It will be a variegated portrait of our species engraved in micropixels. There are important examples from astrophysics, particle physics, astronomy and planetary science.

 

“We hope Sanctuary will constitute a ‘cosmic hello’ to our descendants or perhaps even visitors from elsewhere.

 

“The Sanctuary project is a message for the very long term. We want future explorers to step back in time and join us in our exploration of ourselves, our world and our epoch.”

 

There will be 24 discs in all, with one pixel for every Homo sapiens who has ever lived on the planet. As well as Space, other themes will include Life & Biology, Time & Age and Matter & Atoms.

 

Male and female genomes sequenced at the British Columbia Genome Sciences Centre in Vancouver will be placed on two separate discs.

 

The 24 discs are currently being engraved at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission.

 

Adama Pam, chief archivist at Unesco, which has supported the project, said: “We have always supported new and ambitious ideas. Sanctuary on the Moon resonates with Unesco’s ongoing commitment to education, science, and culture, and our mission to share our knowledge of humanity’s intellectual and moral achievements.”

Video released of first interrogation of suspected terrorists

 

Russia’s FSB security service has reported that it has detained four suspected perpetrators after the Moscow concert hall attack

 

The footage shows a bearded man lying on the ground and describing in broken Russian how he’d been paid to commit the terrorist attack.

 

The man says that before committing Friday’s atrocity, he had been to Türkiye. Doesn't make sense. Russia is in a war, so their border would be monitored. The US, whom destroyed their operations and would be the most logical target for them to hate, would have an infinitely easier time just walking right into the States on the southern border and would be treated better than actual American citizens. Legalization

Kadyrov was killed on 9 May 2004 in the 2004 Grozny stadium bombing, in what is considered to be a deliberate assassination. Control of the Kadyrovites passed to his son, Ramzan Kadyrov, who was second-in-command of the militia. At that point, the backbone of the militia still consisted of former separatist fighters (more than 70% in 2004, according to the Russian military sources), and their allegiance to the new leader was questioned. Many continued serving as Kadyrovites under Ramzan due to implicit threats on their relatives' welfare; coercion was commonly used in Chechnya to demand compliance. Hostage-taking in particular was widespread and affected many in the country, including former rebel Minister of Defence Magomed Khambiyev.[16]

 

Shortly after Akhmad Kadyrov's death, the unit of the Kadyrovites responsible for his protection was formally disbanded. Most of the remaining units were integrated into Russian law enforcement agencies and security authorities in Chechnya under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. By 2005, two units were formed: the "Akhmad Kadyrov" Second Road Patrol Regiment of the Police (PPSM-2, Kadyrov Regiment), and the Oil Regiment Neftepolk, headed by the Kadyrov's cousin Adam Delimkhanov, comprising around 1,500 to 2,000 men, respectively.[17][18]

 

By 2006, the total number of Kadyrovites, who by then included the PPSM-2, the Oil Regiment, and so-called Anti-Terrorist Centers (commanded by Muslim Ilyasov), was no longer being disclosed. Memorial estimated that they numbered around 5,000 people, as did a 2007 a similar Reuters estimate.

 

In 2016, after a series of reforms, most of the Russian internal military and paramilitary troops were placed under the command of the newly created National Guard of Russia (also known as the Rosgvardiya).[22] Chechen internal troops were placed under nominal control of the National Guard, although still under direct control of Kadyrov.[23] Researcher Gordon M. Hahn, on his blog, and Russian political scientist Gleb Pavlovsky, who heads the analytics department of the Center for Political Technologies (CPT), said that one of Vladimir Putin's objectives was to limit Kadyrov's power over his troops by placing them under the control of the National Guard, which respond directly to Putin.

 

On March 1, 2007, Lyudmila Alexeyeva, the head of the Moscow Helsinki Group rights organisation, stated "Kadyrov is to blame for kidnappings of many innocent people. Their bodies were found later with signs of torture."

 

Chechen troops in Ukraine have become known for publishing videos on social media, including combat footage from Mariupol. Kadyrov was widely mocked online as a "TikTok warrior" after a picture meant to show him traveling in Ukraine showed him praying at a gas station whose brand only exists in Russia.
