SAN FRANCISCO — As a scandal rocked the city’s crime lab in 2010, District Attorney Kamala D. Harris was increasingly at odds with the city’s elected public defender, Jeff Adachi. He accused her of being “unethical,” and she said he was “playing politics with public safety,” according to media reports at the time.

The fight was, on one level, an example of a prosecutor and defense attorney playing their respective roles. But it was all the more extraordinary because the two had been friends for years.

Adachi had been Harris’s tutor when they were at the University of California’s Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. Their relationship continued as their careers intersected at crucial moments, often on opposite sides in high-profile criminal cases, until it recently reached an unexpected conclusion just when she may have most needed his help.

China Hacks Trump’s Phone Days After Intelligence Community Downplays Chinese Election Interference

 

The U.S. Intelligence Community Foreign Malign Influence Center hosted an update briefing by the U.S. Government Inter-Agency Task Force on Foreign Interference in the American Elections on October 22, 2024.

 

Multiple representatives from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Department of Homeland Security participated. Even the U.S. Coast Guard attended.

 

The formal statement released after the session with more than 40 media representatives stated, “Foreign actors—particularly Russia, Iran, and China—remain intent on fanning divisive narratives to divide Americans and undermine Americans’ confidence in the U.S. democratic system consistent with what they perceive to be in their interests, even as their tactics continue to evolve.

 

The IC expects foreign influence efforts will intensify in the lead-up to Election Day, especially through social media posts—some of which are likely to be AI-generated or -enhanced.”

Trump’s phone hacked – is information being shared with Iranian Assassins?

 

The ODNI led team seemed to parse the foreign threat into two categories. Pre-election social media efforts and post-election attempts to stoke discord and violence.

 

But when it comes to actual foreign interference in the conduct of the election process and manipulation of vote numbers (the IC calls this the “election administration process”), there was a hubris they may regret.

 

The ODNI inter-agency team said, “To date, though, the IC has no information that any foreign actor intends to compromise the integrity of the election administration process. The IC will provide updates if it acquires such information.

 

Even if they decided to try, foreign actors almost certainly would not be able to manipulate election processes at a scale that would materially impact the outcome of the Presidential election without detection.”

 

Three days later, the Inter-Agency Team had “election administration process” egg all over their face. The Wall Street Journal reported that the Chinese had “burrowed into the networks of U.S. telecommunications firms … to target the phones of former President Donald Trump, his running mate, JD Vance, and people affiliated with Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign.”

 

The U.S. taxpayers are spending over $100 billion in 2024 and the Chinese blow through the U.S. IC screen line.

 

If the Chinese can hack the phone of President Trump, they can hack the election infrastructure. Does this hack mean that the Chinese are sharing the intelligence they collect on President Trump’s location with Iran? Highly likely.

90% of the oral question and answers during the October 22 update briefing by the ODNI were focused on Russia. There is clearly a hyper focus on Russia by the American IC and by legacy media.

 

Russia is definitely a part of the Chinese led team to topple America, but for every $1 Russia spends on influence operations, Iran spends $3 (mostly borrowed from China), and China spends $20.

 

It’s not even close, Russia is a minor player in the big picture. Intel rule number one is you’re likely not going to find something you’re not looking for. The issue with the IC is the prioritization of the collection effort dictated through Intelligence Community Directive ICD 204.

 

Russia seems to have a much higher place in the collection stack, Iran and China’s at best may straddle the Intel Collection cut line. More resources and attention are focused on Russia, less on Iran and China, which explains the perversion of the IC.

Statement Regarding the Matter of Representative Matt Gaetz

Pursuant to Committee Rule 7, the Committee on Ethics (Committee) determined to release the following statement:

 

On April 9, 2021, the Committee announced it had initiated a review into allegations that Representative Matt Gaetz may have engaged in sexual misconduct and/or illicit drug use, shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor, misused state identification records, converted campaign funds to personal use, and/or accepted a bribe, improper gratuity, or impermissible gift, in violation of House Rules, laws, or other standards of conduct. The Committee deferred its consideration of the matter in response to a request from the Department of Justice (DOJ). In May 2023, the Committee reauthorized its investigation after DOJ withdrew its deferral request.

 

There has been a significant and unusual amount of public reporting on the Committee’s activities this Congress. Much of that reporting has been inaccurate. The Committee’s investigations are conducted confidentially, but the Committee’s confidentiality rules do not prohibit witnesses from disclosing information about the Committee’s requests or conversations with Committee investigators. The Committee is confident in the integrity of its process.

 

Representative Gaetz has categorically denied all of the allegations before the Committee. Notwithstanding the difficulty in obtaining relevant information from Representative Gaetz and others, the Committee has spoken with more than a dozen witnesses, issued 25 subpoenas, and reviewed thousands of pages of documents in this matter. Based on its review to date, the Committee has determined that certain of the allegations merit continued review. During the course of its investigation, the Committee has also identified additional allegations that merit review.

 

Accordingly, the Committee is reviewing allegations pursuant to Committee Rules 14(a)(3) and 18(a) that Representative Gaetz may have: engaged in sexual misconduct and illicit drug use, accepted improper gifts, dispensed special privileges and favors to individuals with whom he had a personal relationship, and sought to obstruct government investigations of his conduct. The Committee will take no further action at this time on the allegations that he may have shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor, misused state identification records, converted campaign funds to personal use, and/or accepted a bribe or improper gratuity.

 

The Committee notes that the mere fact of an investigation into these allegations does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred. No other public comment will be made on this matter except in accordance with Committee rules.

Tim Walz had a secret fling with the daughter of a high-ranking Communist official during his 1989 teaching stint in China, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.

Jenna Wang, 59, claims the VP hopeful showered her with gifts and seduced her at his poky staff accommodation at No. 1 High School in Foshan, Guangdong Province.

The lovers could not risk holding hands or showing affection in public because Wang's dad was a high-ranking figure in the Chinese Communist Party who would disown her for fraternizing with a westerner.

But their romance blossomed behind closed doors as they sipped tea, made love and listened to George Michael hits– leading the then 24-year-old Wang to dream about marriage and a new life in the United States.

No proposal was forthcoming from the future Minnesota governor, however, and the shame of being treated 'like a prostitute' eventually left Wang feeling angry and suicidal, she claims.

'Tim was very passionate and very romantic. I can still remember dancing with him to our favorite song, Careless Whisper,' she told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview.

'The fact we couldn't touch or kiss in public just made it all the more exciting and intense when we were finally alone.

'We were deeply in love and I wanted to marry him and start a family. When it didn't happen, I felt very unhappy and sad. Tim's behavior was very selfish.'

Walz's time in China is already a source of controversy after he misleadingly claimed in interviews and congressional transcriptsthat he was in Hong Kong when the Tiananmen Square protests erupted from April to June of 1989.

It later transpired that he didn't join the staff of nonprofit WorldTeach in China until August 1989, prompting Walz, 60, to profess during the recent VP debate that he was a 'knucklehead' when recalling dates.

It was several months after he arrived in Foshan that Walz is said to have fallen head over heels for Wang, a pretty, highly educated English language teacher at the nearby No. 8 Middle School.

She was attending one of his lectures to brush up on her pronunciation when the then-25-year-old Walz slipped her headphones aside and whispered into her ear: 'You are very beautiful.'

'Tim was very handsome. I loved his eyes and his big mouth. We talked afterwards and he was very complimentary about my English,' Wang told DailyMail.com.

'My colleagues couldn't speak whole sentences but Tim told me that if he closed his eyes and listened it was like being back in America.'

Wang had a friend on the same teaching staff as Walz so she was able to gain access to the exclusive school where she could visit him in his one-bed staff digs.

 

Over the weeks that followed the lovebirds grew closer, walking in the park and going to dances in the evening where there was less chance of being spotted by communist snoops.

 

They avoided overt shows of affection in case it got back to Wang's father Bin Hui, who was an important CCP official and chairman of a labor union in her native city of Guilin.

 

Walz would travel to Hong Kong and Macau on the weekends – cities that were more or less inaccessible for all but the Chinese elite – and bring back Western-style luxuries like blue jeans, Ray-Ban sunglasses and jewelry.

 

'He couldn't sing and when he tried to dance he found it very hard. I could tell he was in the military,' Wang said.

 

'But we talked for hours and hours, we stayed in bed, we had sex. He continued to buy me gifts….

At Walz's direction, Wang says she sent off a passport photo and information about herself to an address in the States, believing it was part of the process to secure her a visa.

When the future running mate of presidential hopeful Kamala Harris flew back to China in 1992, she resigned her coveted teaching role, believing she was about to embark on a new life….

'People were staring at us. I tried to reject it because I was very afraid. Teachers were supposed to set an example,' she said.

The couple made sure to book two hotel rooms wherever they stayed but on an overnight train journey Walz insisted that Wang sleep in his cabin.

The conductor shone a flashlight on Wang in the middle of the night and started to admonish her, only to retreat when Walz, afforded more respect as a westerner, woke up.

When the pair reached Hainan Island, known for its tropical climate and beach resorts, Wang was ready to confront him about their future plans…

Israel passes legislation designating UNRWA a terrorist organisation, bans work on Israeli soil

 

Israel's parliament has passed legislation that could restrict the main UN agency providing aid to people in Gaza.

 

The new laws designate UNRWA a terrorist organisation, cutting diplomatic ties with the agency and barring it from operating on Israeli soil.

 

The two bills prohibit ties between Israeli officials and the agency, and strips its staff of their legal immunities.

 

They ban UNRWA from conducting "any activity" or providing any service inside Israel.

 

The legislation, which would not take effect immediately, risks collapsing the fragile aid distribution process at a moment when the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening and Israel is under increased US pressure to ramp up aid.

 

The vote passed 92-10 and followed a fiery debate between supporters of the law and its opponents, mostly members of Arab parliamentary parties.

 

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said UNRWA workers must be held accountable for what he called their "terrorist activities" against the country.

 

He also said sustained humanitarian aid must remain available in Gaza "now and in the future".

Trump leads in New Hampshire - a state Republicans haven't won in 24 years

Donald Trump has the momentum over Kamala Harris in the polls with eight days until what is shaping up to be one of the closest elections in history.

 

The former president took the lead in the Real Clear Politics polling average on Monday morning for the first time, with a razor-thin 0.1 percent advantage.

 

Meanwhile the New York Times' polling average gives Harris her 'smallest lead' since the summer with just one percent after a string of national polls showed her support slipping.

 

On Sunday night, the Republican nominee welcomed 20,000 adoring MAGA fans to a packed Madison Square Garden for a historic rally that featured a range of speakers from Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to Hulk Hogan and Dr. Phil.

 

Comedian and podcaster Tony Hinchcliffe sparked fury by calling Puerto Rico a 'floating island of garbage' and led to Republicans and the Trump campaign distancing themselves.

 

The campaign returns to the swing states on Monday, with Trump in Georgia and Harris and Michigan and Wisconsin.

 

The running mates J.D. Vance and Tim Walz are also going to battle in The Badger State, which is now deemed by betting markets to finish the closest among the seven battlegrounds.

 

New Hampshire is not a state that Donald Trump or Kamala Harris are actively courting as its considered a deeply blue state that likely won’t flip for the former president.

 

But new polling this week reveals that the New England state might be leaning more red than in previous years.

 

Although a tiny advantage, Trump is ahead of Harris in New Hampshire by 0.4 of a point – 50.2 percent to 49.8 percent – well within the New Hampshire Journal poll’s margin of error.

 

With less than 1 million voters in the 2016 election, New Hampshire voted by only a 0.3 percent margin for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Then in 2020, the blue-leaning margin widened with the state going 7.34 percent for Joe Biden over Trump.

 

The difference between the years was that approximately 80,000 more people voted in New Hampshire from 2016 to 2020 – and around 60,000 of that new votership went for the Democratic candidate.

 

New Hampshire, which only holds four Electoral College votes, has not voted for a Republican presidential candidate since the 2000 election.

Why else would MSNBC shamelessly intersperse footage of the 1939 Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden with Trump's Sunday MSG event, overflowing with middle and working-class voters — in effect, calling those voters Nazis?

 

Why else would the New York Times plaster the front page of its Sunday op-ed section with huge block type, font size otherwise reserved for the outbreak of world wars, to what Trump will do if he wins — including 'USE SOLDIERS AGAINST CITIZENS'?

 

Not to mention the furor over the refusal by both the L.A. Times and Washington Post (owned by Amazon's Jeff Bezos) to endorse either candidate, which sent the left into a tizzy of canceled subscriptions and social-media virtue-signaling.

 

Author Stephen King: 'After five years, I have cancelled my subscription to the Washington Post' — a statement King posted on X, which happens to be owned by another Trump-supporting billionaire. The left can't win for trying.

 

Yes, even WaPo — its none-too-subtle motto 'Democracy Dies in Darkness' born after Trump's 2016 victory — has perhaps rethought the stakes.

 

What does it say when two of America's largest left-leaning newspapers can't, or won't, endorse Kamala Harris over Trump?A man we are told is an irredeemable racist, sexist, xenophobe who poses a threat unlike any we have ever confronted?

 

Here's exactly what it says: Billionaire businessmen know a loser when they see one.

 

This weekend, Harris was the subject of a lengthy New York Times profile, informed by 100 friends and colleagues who also seemed incapable of offering a full-throated endorsement. In particular, they noted that 'she was not a gifted student' in law school, and that her 2019 presidential run 'revealed a person for whom… politics did not come naturally. She struggled to define herself ideologically.'

 

As she still does, a struggle that's excruciating to watch. But of course, this NYT piece, 'The World According to Kamala Harris', argued that as a woman of color, everything has been harder for Kamala Harris.

 

Excuse me? Let's get real: Identity politics might be the only reason this unimpressive, unintellectual Queen of Word Salad has risen far above her capabilities to potentially become president of the United States.

 

As Kamala would say: Let's understand how we got here.

 

During a 2020 presidential debate, Joe Biden got backed into promising a female running mate, and Harris — who had all but called Biden a racist during her own failed campaign — was right there, willing to forgive and forget, if not acknowledge that she never believed what she'd said in the first place.

 

Jill Biden has reportedly never forgiven her. Does anyone really think that she and Joe, still smarting over his forced ouster, want Harris to win?

 

The Bidens, the billionaire class and rational voters everywhere all know that Trump isn't going to unleash the military on U.S. citizens, or 'be a dictator on day one', or prosecute his political enemies.

 

Hell — Trump even said he'd consider pardoning Hunter Biden if elected!

 

'I wouldn't take it off the books,' Trump told radio host Hugh Hewitt last week. 'Unlike Joe Biden, despite what they've done to me, where they've gone after me so viciously… I happen to think it's very bad for our country.'

 

Look at that. If only the left-leaning media would amplify that message. Instead, we got Michelle Obama stumping for Harris over the weekend, remonstrating the crowd much as her husband has been unsuccessfully doing to black male voters.

 

'I hope you'll forgive me', Michelle said in Kalamazoo, Michigan on Saturday, 'if I'm a little frustrated that some of us are choosing to ignore Donald Trump's gross incompetence while asking Kamala to dazzle us at every turn.'

 

Dazzle us? At this point, we're just looking for a coherent, specific answer to any question. Just one.

 

But in Michelle's telling, voters who are concerned about the border crisis, rising crime, the affordable housing shortage, and a Middle East on fire just need to lower their expectations.

As it may sound strange, we had 10 days of darkness here. Thursday Oct 17 streetlights in multiple streets here around my home went dark. This never happened before. Electricians tried to detect the cause but were finally able to find and fix it today.

Radio personality Michael Graham told journalist Mark Halperin Monday that he will “not be stunned” if Republican nominee Donald Trump narrowly wins New Hampshire in the 2024 election.

 

Graham cited a New Hampshire Journal/Praecones Analytica poll from Sunday finding Trump with a 50.2% to 49.8% lead over Vice President Kamala Harris in New Hampshire, saying that the state could be a hit or miss for the former president. Graham said on Halperin’s “The Morning Meeting” that New Hampshire is the one state in New England that may fare positively for Republicans, as enough voters may turn out in the state to vote for Trump.

 

“Believe it or not, in a state the Democrats have carried 7 of the last 8 times, the Granite State, Donald Trump has a massive 50.2% to 49.8% lead…A month ago, the polling, Saint Ann’s and some and others had Trump losing by about 6.5 [points], and then last Thursday, Emerson came out and Trump was at 50%-47%, losing by 3 [within] margin of error, Graham said, citing the poll. “And then I of course, everyday, tune in go ‘The Morning Meeting’ and I heard Sean’s [Spicer] reporting and I got then umbers and I was stunned.”

 

Graham further said that “subterranean” issues, including whether to permit transgender athletes in women’s sports, is having a major effect on voters in New Hampshire and may help Trump in November.

 

“I think the two things that are moving in these purple-y states, the big one is Kamala Harris is failing the audition, or the job,” Graham said. “She’s just failing. And I think the other one is, you guys have picked up on these subterranean issues that are having effects that people aren’t looking at like these fights over trans issues, guys and girls sports, New Hampshire has been ground zero for that…. If you said Trump’s gonna lose New Hampshire by ten [points], I would not be stunned. If you told me Trump was gonna win New Hampshire by 1 [point], I would not be stunned.”

 

Former Trump-era White House press secretary Sean Spicer said he has talked to many New Englanders who had not previously supported Trump are now backing the former president because they are “pissed off” by the status quo.

 

Republican gubernatorial candidate Kelly Ayotte is leading her Democratic opponent Joyce Craig 51.9% to 48.1%, according to the New Hampshire Journal/Praecones Analytica poll. The poll surveyed 622 registered voters in New Hampshire between October 24-26 with a 3.93% margin of error.

 

A Republican presidential nominee has not won New Hampshire in a general election since former President George W. Bush secured a victory in 2000. Former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton narrowly beat Trump in New Hampshire 46.8% to 46.5%, while President Joe Biden won by a 7-point margin, 52.7% to 45.4%, against the former president.

Ballots damaged after USPS mailbox lit on fire in Phoenix: Police

 

Authorities have made an arrest have a number of ballots were damaged when a United States Post Office collection mailbox was lit on fire in Phoenix, police said.

 

An individual lit a fire inside a drive-up collection mailbox at a USPS station early Thursday morning, according to the Phoenix Police Department, which said it responded to the scene at 1:20 a.m.

 

The Phoenix Fire Department was able to open the mailbox and extinguish the fire and the Postal Inspector took possession of the damaged ballots and miscellaneous mail, police said.

 

Phoenix police initially said that approximately 20 electoral ballots were damaged, though the Arizona Secretary of State's Office later said it believes the fire only destroyed five ballots while warning that the final figure could still change.

Virginia asks Supreme Court to allow voter rolls purge before election

Virginia election officials on Monday asked the Supreme Court to block a ruling by a federal judge that would bar them from reviving a program put in place in August by the state’s Republican governor intended to remove suspected noncitizens from the state’s voting rolls.

 

U.S. District Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles on Friday ordered the state to restore the registration of more than 1600 people whom it had taken off the rolls as part of the program, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit on Sunday turned down the state’s request to step in.

 

In an executive order on Aug. 7, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin ordered state election officials to expedite the use of data from the state’s department of motor vehicles to identify and cancel the voter registration of suspected noncitizens unless they could verify their citizenship within 14 days.

 

A federal court found that that the database flagged and canceled the registration of at least some eligible citizens and that those voters were unaware of the fact that they were no longer able to vote.

 

The Biden administration, along with civic and immigrant rights groups, went to federal court in Alexandria, Va., on Oct. 11 to challenge the voter-purge program. They argued that it violated the National Voter Registration Act, a 1993 law that generally bars states from “systematically” removing ineligible voters within 90 days of a federal election.

 

In an order on Oct. 25, Giles barred the state from “continuing any systematic program intended to remove the names of ineligible voters from registration lists less than 90 days before the November 5, 2024, federal General Election,” although she left open the possibility that the state could still remove some voters on a case-by-case basis – for example, those with criminal convictions and those who have died. She also ordered the state to restore the registration of voters whom it had removed from the rolls as part of the program.

 

The state went to the 4th Circuit, asking it to put Giles’ order on hold. But a three-judge panel made up of two Obama appointees and one Biden appointee denied (as relevant here) that request on Sunday, writing that it was “unpersuaded” that Virginia’s program complied with the NVRA.

 

Virginia then came to the Supreme Court on Monday morning, asking the justices to put Giles’ order on hold by Tuesday.

 

Erika Maley, the state’s solicitor general, told the court that Giles’ order rests on “a misinterpretation of the NVRA,” because the law’s “quiet period” provision does not prohibit the removal of noncitizens, who were never “eligible” to vote in the first place. “States are free to systematically remove noncitizens, as well as minors and fictitious persons, at any time, including within 90 days of an election, without running afoul of the NVRA.”

 

But even if the “quiet period” provision did prohibit a “systematic” program that removed noncitizens, Maley continued, its program still would not violate the law because it is based on an “individualized process” that “begins with a personal attestation of noncitizenship” on forms filed with the Virginia DMV and “ends in the removal of that person from the voter rolls only when he is sent two individualized letters offering opportunities” to correct any mistakes about citizenship status.

 

The state and the public will be permanently harmed if Giles’ order is allowed to remain in effect, Maley insisted, both because the state will be unable to enforce its election laws and because of the prospect that noncitizens will be allowed to vote in the upcoming election. By contrast, Maley argued, any U.S. citizen who is erroneously removed from the rolls can still cast a provisional ballot on election day.

 

Giles’ order, Maley contended, also violates the Purcell principle, the idea that courts should not change election rules during the period just before an election. That principle, Maley wrote, “applies to eleventh-hour injunctions under the NVRA, particularly where, as here, they order mandatory retrospective relief of adding numerous individuals to a State’s voter rolls past the State’s deadline for doing so and imminently before an election.”

‘Bob’s Burgers’ actor sentenced to 1 year in prison for Jan. 6 role

An actor known for roles in the animated series “Bob’s Burgers” and “Arrested Development” was sentenced Monday to a year and one day in prison for his connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

Jay Johnston, who voiced the role of Jimmy Pesto in “Bob’s Burgers” and played Officer Taylor on “Arrested Development,” pleaded guilty to a felony count of interfering with law enforcement during civil disorder in July.

His attorney told a federal judge he’s been “blacklisted” by Hollywood since the riot.

 

“It’s a humiliation and a horrible oversight,” Johnston told U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols of his participation in the riot.

Nichols, a Trump appointee, called Johnston’s conduct on Jan. 6 “problematic — reprehensible, really” and described the actor’s statement as “less contrite than many” other rioters’ remarks before being sentenced.

When his sentence was handed down, Johnston looked straight ahead with a furrowed brow. His father, brother and fiancé attended the hearing and spoke in his support.

 

Prosecutors said Johnston flew from Los Angeles to Washington the day before the riot, then marched to the Capitol after attending the “Stop the Steal” rally on Jan. 6.

There, he used a stolen police riot shield to form a “shield wall” inside a tunnel against law enforcement and participated in a “‘heave-ho’ push” that “pinned and crushed” a police officer against a door frame, they said.

 

The government argued Monday that, despite his guilty plea, Johnston failed to show remorse.

Prosecutors pointed to an image of the actor dressed as “QAnon Shaman” Jacob Chansley, a rioter sentenced to more than three years in prison, for Halloween in 2022.

“An 18-month sentence reflects the gravity of Johnston’s conduct, including his spread of disinformation about January 6th and his lack of remorse for participating in the riot,” prosecutors wrote in the memo, seeking a prison sentence of a year and a half for Johnston.

 

Johnston asked the judge for less than one year in prison, suggesting that prosecutors persistently overstated his role in the riot because he’s an “acclaimed Hollywood actor.”

“At its core, the government has continued to advance Mr. Johnston’s indictment on a ‘guilty-by-association’ basis, in which it compounds the conduct of others in the proximity of Mr. Johnston with his alleged conduct, rather than maintaining focus on Mr. Johnston’s individualized actions,” Johnston attorney Stanley Woodward wrote in his sentencing memorandum.

 

Johnston sought leniency from the judge, asserting that he has been unable to “sustain his livelihood” as an actor since joining the mob on Jan. 6.

His attorney confirmed the actor was fired from Fox’s “Bob’s Burgers” after his presence at the Capitol was confirmed.

Tim Johnston, Johnston’s younger brother, told Nichols that he was “completely shocked” to learn that his brother participated in the Capitol attack.

He urged the judge to weigh Johnston’s guilty plea with the damage it’s done to his career, including the loss of his recurring “Bob’s Burgers” role and a related movie, of which his character was subsequently written out.

 

“He’s closing the door by pleading guilty here,” the younger Johnston said of his brother’s acting career.

Woodward said the actor, whose roles also included parts in “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” and “Mr. Show with Bob and David,” has worked as a handyman for the last two years to support his family.

Johnston’s family told the judge that his 13-year-old daughter, who is autistic, has significant developmental issues and relies on his support.

 

His fiancé, Sara Radovanovitch, also said that neighborhood kids look to him as a mentor, often trailing him like the “pied piper.”

Woodward suggested that Johnston should complete an outsized amount of community service — more than 500 hours, in Los Angeles or Washington — to atone instead of serving a prison term.

Nichols sentenced Johnston to 40 hours of community service in addition to his prison term, which much be completed within a year of his release. He must also pay $2,000 in restitution to the Architect of the Capitol.

More than 1,500 rioters have been charged in connection with the Capitol attack.

The Justice Department and Bureau of Prisons seem to have finally decided to tackle the problems that plague the MDC.

 

“Last month, federal prosecutors charged nine inmates in connection with a spate of attacks from April to August at the Metropolitan Detention Center, the only federal jail in New York City.

 

The allegations made public last month detailed serious safety and security issues at the jail, including charges after two inmates were stabbed to death and another was speared in the spine with a makeshift icepick.”

 

The Bureau of Prisons called the raid on Brooklyn ‘pre-planned’ and that further assured that there is ‘no active threat’.

 

“The agency said it wouldn’t provide additional details about what exactly investigators were doing there on Monday until the operation is complete ‘in an effort to maintain the safety and security of all personnel inside the facility and the integrity of this operation’.”

Haiti: Gangs Open Fire on U.N. Helicopter, Forcing It to Land in Port-au-Prince

A United Nations helicopter was hit by several rounds of gunfire while flying over Haiti on Thursday, forcing the chopper to land in the capital of Port-au-Prince.

 

U.N. officials declined to comment on the incident on the record. A U.N. source anonymously told the Associated Press (AP) that no one was injured by the attack, which was one of the more brazen assaults launched against international observers and peacekeepers by the gangs running amok in Haiti.

 

The AP’s source said the helicopter was carrying three crew and 15 passengers at the time of the attack.

 

Another source provided CNN with photos showing “at least eight bullet holes on the helicopter’s fuselage, and what appears to be its rotor system.” These photos showed the helicopter was clearly marked as a U.N. aircraft, specifically belonging to the World Food Program (WFP).

 

“Humanitarian air transport is essential to delivering a response across Haiti,” the WFP said in a statement. Air transport is necessary, in part, because gang attacks have made Haiti’s roads so dangerous.

 

The WFP canceled its planned helicopter flights for Friday and a source told CNN that U.S. airlines are considering halting flights to Port-au-Prince again, as they did for three months after a surge of gang violence in March.

 

Two armored vehicles belonging to the U.S. Embassy in Haiti were attacked on Tuesday by gunmen belonging to the 400 Mawozo and Chen Mechan gangs. As with the helicopter incident, no injuries were reported from the attack.

 

“The United States maintains its strong condemnation against ongoing gang violence aimed at destabilizing Haiti’s government and jeopardizing a future of peace and security for the Haitian people,” the State Department said when confirming the attack.

 

The Miami Herald quoted a source who said one of the vehicles targeted by the gangsters belonged to the U.S. chief of mission in Haiti. This armored car was not hit by any of the gunfire, but the other one was struck by several rounds, shattering its back glass.

 

The Miami Herald noted that gang boss Jimmy “The Barbecue” Cherizier has mentioned the U.S. Embassy in weird and threatening ways in some of his recent social media videos. In one of those videos, he claimed he was invited to a meeting at the embassy and was offered a U.S. visa. The State Department denied both of those claims.

 

CBS News reported on Thursday that twenty members of the U.S. embassy attack were evacuated following the car attack in Port-au-Prince.

Boeing Offers 90 Million Shares & $5 Billion Depositary Shares To Boost Liquidity

Boeing's money raise officially hit this AM. The offering: 90 million shares of common stock and $5 billion in depositary shares.

 

Goldman Sachs, BofA Securities, Citigroup, JPMorgan are leading the deal as joint bookrunning managers for both offerings.

 

Here are the offering details from Boeing:

 

The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] ("Boeing" or the "Company") announced today the launch of concurrent separate underwritten public offerings of (i) 90,000,000 shares of common stock, par value $5.00 per share ("Common Stock") of the Company and (ii) $5 billion of depositary shares ("Depositary Shares"), each representing a 1/20th interest in a share of newly issued Series A Mandatory Convertible Preferred Stock, par value $1.00 per share ("Preferred Stock"), of the Company (together, the "Offerings"). Boeing expects to grant to the underwriters of the Offerings a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional (i) 13,500,000 shares of Common Stock and (ii) $750 million of Depositary Shares, solely to cover over-allotments, if any. Boeing intends to use the net proceeds from the Offerings for general corporate purposes, which may include, among other things, repayment of debt, additions to working capital, capital expenditures, and funding and investments in the Company's subsidiaries.

 

Holders of the Depositary Shares will be entitled to a proportional fractional interest in the rights and preferences of the Preferred Stock, including conversion, dividend, liquidation and voting rights, subject to the provisions of a deposit agreement. The Preferred Stock is expected to have a liquidation preference of $1,000 per share. Unless earlier converted, each share of Preferred Stock will automatically convert, for settlement on or about October 15, 2027, into a variable number of shares of Common Stock based on the applicable conversion rate, and each Depositary Share will automatically convert into a number of shares of Common Stock equal to a proportionate fractional interest in such shares of Common Stock. The dividend rate, conversion terms and other terms of the Preferred Stock will be determined at the time of pricing of the offering of the Depositary Shares. Currently, there is no public market for the Depositary Shares or the Preferred Stock. Boeing intends to apply to list the Depositary Shares on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "BA.PRA."

 

Goldman blasted an email to clients this AM: "We are a joint bookrunner in this registered Follow On offering with the following indicative terms."

 

Boeing shares moved lower in premarket trading in New York after a Bloomberg report revealed a capital raise could take place as soon as Monday. This would prevent credit rating agencies from downgrading Boeing's investment-grade credit rating to speculative territory amid dwindling cash reserves and a drawn-out strike.

 

Three sources familiar with the matter said the beleaguered airplane maker, plagued by a months-long strike, could raise as much as $15 billion, adding the amount could change depending on demand.

 

Boeing's advisers have been lining up a funding deal for weeks.
