Former Cleveland City Council Member Charged with Bribery and Fraud

 

CLEVELAND – Basheer Jones, 40, of Cleveland, Ohio, has been charged in a two-count information with conspiring to commit wire fraud and honest services fraud for using his role as a public official for personal financial gain by seeking to defraud multiple community stakeholders out of more than $200,000. He previously served as an elected Cleveland city council member representing Ward 7.

 

According to court documents, from about December 2018 to June 2021, Jones allegedly misrepresented and concealed material facts to induce nonprofit organizations to enter into a variety of arrangements that would benefit Jones and his romantic partner co-conspirator. Under the guise of working on projects to benefit the city of Cleveland and revitalize Ward 7, Jones fraudulently sought and obtained funds from local nonprofits while he concealed his connection to his romantic partner, through whom he benefited from these arrangements.

 

Jones’s schemes were devised to deceive nonprofit entities into making payments toward projects they thought were for the community’s benefit. Instead, the money ultimately went into bank accounts controlled by Jones’s romantic partner. Jones would then direct her to divert those funds to herself, Jones, and to other associates who were involved.

 

The information alleges that Jones deceptively advised nonprofits to provide funding to move community projects forward or to hire a purported “consultant,” with the full knowledge that the funds would flow back to himself. For example, Jones recommended that a nonprofit hire a consultant for community outreach. Unbeknownst to the nonprofit, the “consultant” who quickly submitted a proposal and whose business was ultimately contracted, was Jones’s co-conspirator and romantic partner. She submitted the proposal and requested $5,000 per month at Jones’s prompting. The investigation discovered that she did not provide the nonprofit with substantial services in exchange for payments she received.

 

Jones later defrauded the same nonprofit out of an additional $50,000, again through his romantic partner’s consulting business. Jones claimed that he needed $50,000 to plan a community event, which included buying backpacks for schoolchildren, and falsely promised that the city would reimburse the organization. Instead, after the funds were paid, no event was held, and Jones directed his romantic partner to divide the money amongst herself, Jones, and others associated with the scheme.

 

Some of the projects Jones pushed included seeking community funding to rehabilitate certain distressed properties while concealing his financial interest in them. In one instance, Jones devised a bribery scheme under which he arranged for co-conspirators, including his romantic partner, to acquire a dilapidated property on Superior Road, and used his position as councilperson to pass ordinances allocating city funds to buy that property from them. Jones arranged for a co-conspirator to buy the property a minimal cost. After asking a nonprofit to purchase and rehabilitate the property, and promising city funding, Jones sponsored an emergency ordinance to fund the nonprofit’s purchase and renovation of the property. When Jones was unable to convince the nonprofit to proceed, he arranged to transfer the property to his romantic partner’s consulting business, with the understanding that she too would share the proceeds of the sale with him. After sponsoring another ordinance to reauthorize city funding for the same project, Jones sought to finalize the nonprofit’s purchase of the property from his partner’s entity for $80,000. Ultimately the scheme failed when the nonprofit decided not to proceed with the purchase.

Former Chief Investment Officer Of Global Bond Investment Firm Charged With Over $600 Million Investment Adviser Fraud

 

Ken Leech, Former Chief Investment Officer of Western Asset Management, Charged With Fraudulent Scheme to Favor Certain Clients at the Expense of Others

Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and James E. Dennehy, the Assistant Director in Charge of the New York Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”), announced today the unsealing of an Indictment charging S. KENNETH LEECH II, the former Chief Investment Officer of Western Asset Management Company (“WAMCO”), with securities fraud, investment adviser fraud, commodity trading adviser fraud, commodities fraud, and making false statements. WAMCO is a global fixed-income investment adviser that manages hundreds of billions of dollars on behalf of its clients. Between 2021 and 2023, LEECH defrauded WAMCO’s clients by engaging in a criminal cherry-picking scheme to favor certain clients at the expense of others, assigning over $600 million of gains to favored clients and over $600 million of losses to disfavored clients. LEECH has been summoned to make his initial appearance in the Southern District of New York in connection with the charges by December 6, 2024. The case has been assigned to U.S. District Judge Gregory H. Woods.

 

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said: “We allege today that S. Kenneth Leech II—the Chief Investment Officer of a significant manager of pension funds and other long-term investments—used his position to cherry pick trades and prop up his favored but failing accounts at the expense of others. These charges should be a reminder that this Office continues to police all corners of the financial markets and will swiftly hold those accountable who believe that they can cheat and abuse the trust of clients for their own purposes.”

 

FBI Assistant Director in Charge James E. Dennehy said: “Kenneth Leech, the former CIO of Western Asset Management Company, allegedly violated his fiduciary duty by crafting a preferential treatment scheme to allot more than $600 million in profits and losses to particular clients. Instead of allocating trades appropriately, Leech allegedly allowed favoritism to benefit preferred accounts for their benefit. The FBI will continue to investigate any individual who exploits their trusted position to favorably treat certain clients at the expense of others."

 

According to the allegations in the Indictment unsealed today in Manhattan federal court:[1]

 

Between 2021 and October 2023, LEECH committed fraud and abused the trust placed in him by clients of the investment-management company WAMCO. LEECH engaged in a criminal scheme commonly known as “cherry picking” to compensate for losses in his marquee investment strategy by assigning trades that performed well during their first day into client accounts associated with that investment strategy, and assigning trades that performed poorly over their first day into the accounts of other clients, who were not aware that LEECH was causing them losses to favor others. LEECH’s victims included institutional and retail investors who trusted LEECH to manage their savings and pension plans. Over the course of his criminal scheme, LEECH allocated trades with net first-day gains of at least approximately $600 million to his favored strategy and clients, and allocated trades with net first-day losses of at least approximately $600 million to clients to whom he owed an equal fiduciary duty.

 

LEECH was able to carry out this scheme because, as Chief Investment Officer of WAMCO, LEECH was responsible for making trades on behalf of different portfolios and assigning those trades to the portfolio for which he had traded—a process generally referred to as “allocation.” One set of portfolios for which LEECH traded followed what WAMCO called the “Macro Opportunities” strategy (“Macro Opps”). Another set of portfolios followed what WAMCO called the “Core” and “Core Plus” strategies (together, the “Core Strategies”). LEECH owed a fiduciary duty to any client who invested in portfolios that followed either of these strategies.

Baltimore, Maryland – Today, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland joined the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City (SAO) — and its Major Investigations Unit — the Mayor’s Office, Baltimore Police Department (BPD), U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to share details about the largest takedown in Baltimore in decades.

 

This investigation uncovered four separately operated criminal organizations whose primary enterprise was trafficking narcotics. Ivan Roman and Andre Berry are facing federal charges for firearm-related offenses and possession with the intent to distribute narcotics. The SAO announced charges against 40 individuals for drug trafficking and firearm offenses that occurred throughout southwest Baltimore City. This takedown is part of the City’s Group Violence Reduction Strategy (GVRS). Ongoing violence in these areas was the catalyst for the investigation. While examining violent feuds in these regions, law enforcement uncovered the existence of at least four separate criminal organizations that engaged in the daily street-level distribution of narcotics.

 

During the course of the nearly year-long investigation, law enforcement employed various investigative methods. This included executing search-and-seizure warrants and recovering approximately 65 firearms of varying calibers, including ghost guns and firearms equipped with rapid-fire trigger activators, which allow the firearms to operate as fully automatic weapons. Additionally, law enforcement recovered body armor, approximately 7.25 kilograms of suspected cocaine, approximately three kilograms of suspected heroin/fentanyl mixture, approximately 110 pounds of suspected cannabis, approximately $373,275.50 — believed to be proceeds from the sale of narcotics — and 15 stolen automobiles.

 

“Operation Tornado Alley comes on the heels of our newly executed Baltimore Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Strike Force memorandum of understanding between the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office and our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners,” said U.S. Attorney Erek L. Barron. “This operation proves that we’ve taken the Strike Force to the next level in combating violent crime in the Baltimore region. Violent offenders better beware, we are a force-multiplier for the work of our state and local partners on the ground.”

 

These four criminal organizations conducted criminal activity in the surrounding areas of the 1700 block of Lemmon Street, 2000 block of W. Pratt Street, 500 block of Millington Avenue, and 2800 block of Edmondson Avenue. The SAO has secured 38 state indictments with 35 defendants, involving four conspiracies.

Chinese Ship Suspected of Subsea Cable Sabotage Has a Twisted Anchor

A Chinese bulker happened to be maneuvering near two subsea cables at the time they were severed last weekend, and it appears to have a damaged anchor, according to Danish public radio outlet DR.

 

The bulker Yi Peng 3 was outbound from St. Petersburg in the Baltic during the timeframe of two back-to-back cable breaks on November 17-18. Its AIS record shows that it exhibited unusual course and speed changes at suspicious locations, attracting scrutiny from the authorities. "The ship has been near the two places at certain times when the incidents have taken place," police inspector Per Engstrom told SVT.

 

A Danish Navy patrol vessel intercepted and shadowed the Yi Peng 3 as it transited towards the Great Belt, and the bulker decided to interrupt its voyage to go to anchor in the Kattegat shortly after. Denmark stopped short of saying that the Yi Peng 3 had been detained, but a Danish patrol vessel has been monitoring it closely. Two other NATO vessels - German and Swedish - have joined to create a growing government flotilla near the Yi Peng 3.

 

Engstrom told SVT that the authorities would need evidence of a crime in Swedish waters to justify a detention or a boarding, and the available information does not yet rise to that standard.

 

"Everything points to the Chinese ship. It has slowed from 6.9 to 3.4 knots around the damaged cables and was in a Russian port before sailing out into the Baltic," former chief Danish defense intelligence analyst Jacob Kaarsbo told outlet TT over the weekend.

 

DR obtained a photo of the Yi Peng 3's port side anchor, and the news outlet showed the image to several maritime experts for their thoughts. The photo shows that the anchor's flukes are clearly twisted at the tips.

 

"They are twisted in different directions, which may very well indicate that one side of the anchor has become stuck in something down on the bottom or in some rocks," mariner Capt. Lars Bo Nielsen told DR. "I have never seen such a bent anchor before."

 

The last serious cable break in the Baltic was caused by the Chinese boxship NewNew Polar Bear, Chinese authorities confirmed earlier this year. Half of the Polar Bear's anchor was recovered near a ruptured gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia: it had been dragged for hundreds of miles, its stock had torn in two, and one fluke had broken off. An investigation into the NewNew Polar Bear incident is still under way, and investigators have not yet concluded whether the anchor damage was accidental or an act of sabotage.

 

This time, governments around the Baltic are working on the assumption that the cable damage was intentional. "No one believes that these cables were accidentally damaged. And I don't want to believe in the versions that anchors are to blame," said German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius last Tuesday. "So we have to conclude, without knowing who did that, that this is a hybrid action. And we also have to assume, without knowing, of course, that this is sabotage."

LONDON – At least 23 people were injured and 41 buildings damaged by a Russian missile strike in the northeastern city of Kharkiv, Ukraine, overnight into Monday, Ukrainian authorities said, as Moscow's troops launched a fresh offensive effort in the region and claimed battlefield gains all along the eastern front.

 

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Telegram that the S-400 anti-aircraft missile impact in Kharkiv was part of a multi-pronged barrage against Ukrainian cities overnight. Kyiv, Odesa and Zaporizhzhia were also targeted.

 

Ukraine's air force said Russia launched 145 drones, 71 of which were downed and 71 lost during flight. One UAV flew into Belarusian airspace, the air force said.

 

The Russian Defense Ministry, meanwhile, claimed to have downed 23 Ukrainian drones over multiple regions. The ministry also said it downed eight ballistic missiles, though it did not specify their type.

 

Vladislav Shapsha, the governor of Kaluga Oblast which borders Moscow Oblast to the southwest, said falling drone debris sparked a fire at a manufacturing facility. Ukraine's General Staff, though, said its strikes destroyed the Kaluganefteproduct oil depot in the city of Kaluga.

 

"In total, since yesterday evening, Russia has used about one and a half hundred attack drones, aerial bombs and missiles against more than 10 of our regions," Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram early Monday.

 

"These attacks by Russia on Ukrainian life can be stopped," he added. "With pressure, sanctions, blocking the occupiers' access to the components they use to create the tools of this terror, arms packages for Ukraine and a determination that must be unwavering," he continued.

 

Only 19 miles from the Russian border, Ukraine's "second city" of Kharkiv has faced near-constant attacks since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in early 2022.

 

Russian forces failed to encircle and capture Kharkiv during the opening weeks of the invasion, but fighting has continued along the shared border throughout the conflict.

 

Ukraine's General Staff said in a post to Facebook on Monday that Russian forces launched assaults on the settlement of Kozacha Lopan, about 2 miles from the border and 16 miles north of Kharkiv.

 

The Ukrainian Deep State Telegram military blogger reported that Russian forces also launched an amphibious operation across the Oskil River in the eastern Kharkiv region, where Russian troops have been pushing toward the strategic objective of Kupyansk.

 

The Russian force established a foothold on the Ukrainian-controlled side of the waterway, Deep State wrote. The blogger's claims could not immediately be verified.

In September, a paper was published in the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine which describes the scientific rationale for the hybrid orthomolecular protocol as well as providing detailed information on the protocol itself.

 

The hybrid orthomolecular protocol is a new strategy for treating cancer. It involves the use of various supplements and dietary interventions, including vitamin D, zinc, ivermectin, benzimidazoles and DON, as well as a ketogenic diet and fasting.

 

First-in-the-world ivermectin, mebendazole and fenbendazole protocol in cancer has been peer-reviewed and published on 19 September 2024!

When the image of Obama in a satanic costume first emerged, the msm “fact check” tried to debunk it by claiming the artist who made the mask made it for the guy who started Burning Man. BUT - someone created a really good infographic that shows the chronology of what happened and that there were TWO masks made. My whole fucking country is in turmoil right now. There is nation wide violent protest going on for idk what reason, police are being killed and they cannot fight back now the army is given orders to attack and kill violent protesters. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has relied on a plan from a dark money-fueled leftist nonprofit to prosecute president-elect Donald Trump’s supporters.

 

That nonprofit, States United Democracy Center (“SUDC,” formerly the “Voter Protection Program”), delivered a 50-page plan to Mayes last summer to prosecute Trump’s 2020 electors and backers for their “fake elector scheme,” as first reported by the Daily Signal. SUDC was also credited by mainstream media as part of the “shadow cabal” that ensured Trump’s loss in 2020.

Arizona Certifies 2024 Election

 

Arizona certified the results of the 2024 general election on Monday.

 

Republicans generally swept competitive races, including the presidential race, as this certification then made way for the electoral to formally give President-Elect Donald Trump the state’s 11 electoral votes. Senator-Elect Ruben Gallego won the state’s Senate race to replace outgoing Sen. Kyrsten Sinema.

 

The state’s Democratic leaders said that the post-election season was calmer in comparison to 2020.

 

“I’m incredibly hopeful that this ministerial but important function can return just to that boring… signing of papers certifying the elections,” Hobbs said.

 

“Regardless of who won, regardless of whether we agree with the outcome or not, I’m hopeful that we can return to that sense of normalcy,” she added.

 

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Adrian Fontes went as far as to say that the era of “election denialism” is “dead.”

Cell phones were originally analog. The switch over to digital was very gradual. Digital signals allow for much greater distance to be covered on much less power (thus miniaturization of phones) because of the nature of square (digital) waves. Much more effective at filtering noise and interference.

 

This inherently means that the phones of today are going to be square wave signals and very low power. If that alone were enough, Q would not exist. They would simply shut him (them) and/or us down. Canada: Town in Ontario being fined $15,000 for not making an official LGBT proclamation during Pride month

 

The Ontario Human Rights Tribunal has found the township of Emo will have to pay damages after refusing to proclaim Pride Month back in 2020.

 

Borderland Pride requested Emo to declare June as Pride Month and display a rainbow flag for one week but the township refused, resulting in a years-long process in which the tribunal ruled against the township.

 

The tribunal ruled Borderland Pride will be awarded $15,000, with $10,000 coming from the township itself and the other $5,000 coming from Emo mayor Harold McQuaker.

 

Doug Judson is a lawyer in Fort Frances and one of the directors on the board of Borderland Pride, and said they're elated to have finally brought it to a close and is a significant victory for the organization.

 

"We didn't pursue this because of the money. We pursued this because we were treated in a discriminatory fashion by a municipal government, and municipalities have obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code not to discriminate in the provision of a service," said Judson.

 

"The tribunal's decision affirms that. That is the important thing we were seeking here was validation that as 2SLGBTQA plus people, we're entitled to treatment without discrimination when we try to seek services from our local government."

 

In addition to the compensation, the tribunal also ordered McQuaker and the Chief Administrative Officer of the municipality to complete a "Human Rights 101" training course offered by the Ontario Human Rights Commission within 30 days.

 

Judson said one of the messages it sends to other townships and municipalities is that Pride needs to be in the smallest and most remote communities just as it is in larger cities, and in some of the places "where it can be really hard to help people understand why it's so important"

 

"I hope that it emboldens and strengthens people in communities like Emo and other places like that across Ontario to know that they have entitlements from their government," said Judson.

 

Going forward, Judson said he would like to see the relationship between Borderland Pride and the township of Emo be more positive, with the municipality being a more active supporter of their programming.

 

"Having a place like Emo as part of Pride and having leadership figures take part in Pride, it lends a lot of support to the movement. It validates and legitimizes that the message is important for the entire community, and so we hope that that is the case moving forward."

 

CBC News reached out to the mayor of Emo for comment, but did not receive a response before publication.

Russia Recruits Yemeni Mercenaries to Fight in Ukraine

 

The Russian military has recruited "hundreds" of Yemeni fighters, according to a new report, as Moscow pays dearly in casualty counts for gains in eastern Ukraine.

 

Yemeni citizens were promised high wages and Russian citizenship before traveling to Russia to be "forcibly inducted into Moscow's army and sent to the front lines in Ukraine," the Financial Times reported on Sunday. The travel was facilitated by a company linked to Yemen's Houthi rebels.

 

Newsweek has reached out to the Russian Foreign Ministry for comment via email.

 

It's not clear how close Russia is with the Houthis, which maintain control of swathes of the country devastated by civil war.

 

But the grinding conflict in Ukraine has seen Russia—a pariah state in the eyes of many Western countries—court relationships with countries hostile to the U.S. and other nations backing Ukraine.

 

Russia has also looked for ways to replenish its ranks, well over two and a half years into the war. Moscow has steadily gained in Ukraine's east while also attempting to push back Kyiv's grip on Russian soil in its border Kursk region.

 

The Kremlin relies heavily on what are known as "meat grinder" tactics, which have generated high casualties among its infantry soldiers that are thrown toward Ukraine's defenses.

 

Ukrainian numbers put the total number of Russian soldiers killed and injured at more than 730,000. This could not be independently verified and Western estimates typically come in slightly lower. Ukraine is similarly grappling with how to sustain its armed forces.

 

Upward of 10,000 North Korean soldiers have been deployed to Kursk, according to U.S., Ukrainian and South Korean intelligence.

 

Russia's armed forces have used mercenaries to bolster its personnel along the front lines throughout the war. It was Russia's Wagner Group of mercenaries—dubbed private military companies, in Kremlin parlance—that declared Russian control over the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut in May 2023.

 

Wagner fighters, led by former Vladimir Putin ally Yevgeny Prigozhin, then launched a short-lived mutiny against the Kremlin in the summer of 2023. Prigozhin was killed in a plane crash shortly after the uprising failed, and the Wagner influence tailed off.

 

Earlier this year, CNN reported that around 15,000 Nepalis had been recruited into Moscow's military effort against Ukraine, lured by lucrative salaries and the promise of a Russian passport.

 

Ukraine's GUR military intelligence agency has said Russia had recruited Syrian citizens into its military. Fighters received training close to the Syrian city of Aleppo before heading for the Khmeimim air base to the southwest of the city and then onto Russian territory, the GUR said in a public statement in February.

 

The fighters were recruited through tourism companies, promised passports and higher-paying jobs on Russian soil, the GUR said. Days later, the military intelligence agency published names of those it said were Syrian mercenaries fighting for Russia.

 

The U.S. special envoy for Yemen, Tim Lenderking, told Business Insider earlier this month that there was "a fairly serious level of engagement happening" between Russia and the Iran-backed Houthi rebels that have been firing on U.S. and Western vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in recent months.

 

Iran, a key Moscow ally, has provided drones and missiles for the war in Ukraine. Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, hosted a delegation of Houthi officials in Moscow earlier this year.

 

"We are particularly concerned about the kind of equipment that would really enable the Houthis to be more accurate in their targeting of U.S. and other ships in the region—that would enhance the Houthi capability to strike those targets," Lenderking said.

I believe there already are lawsuits in early stages for providing false claims by Pharma regarding the safety and efficacy when they sold the shot to Government.

 

I think they would also benefit to prove that there was a conspiracy to suppress alternative treatments or drugs so that the mRNA shots could be used under Emergency Use Authorization.

 

"No other treatment" was the only reason experimental (mRNA) treatments could be used, and Trump himself pointed out a few viable treatments early on (off the top of my head: Hydroxycloroquine, UV light) that were quickly dismissed by the media and healthcare system globally - not to mention the other treatments that came out during the pandemic that were also quickly deemed medical disinformation (Azithromicin [Z-pack], Zinc, Quercetin, Vit D, Vit C, Ivermectin, etc).

 

What I personally believe, is that Trump and his crew knew that the virus, pandemic and lockdowns were already planned by the Deep State, and they had the vaccine already in production. There's no other way they could produce the BILLIONS of shots in such a short period of time.

 

They developed it pre-pandemic with help from Fauci+NIH, Ralph Baric, Peter Daszak+Eco Health Alliance, Wuhan lab, Moderna, and DARPA, with lipid nano tech from University of British Columbia and other companies in Canada, to name a few.

 

It was a global scheme, splitting up aspects of it between several countries and institutions.

Warp Speed just, well, sped up their plans.

I am concerned that the Department is catering to federal employees who are personally devastated by the normal functioning of American democracy through the provision of government-funded mental health counseling because Kamala Harris was not elected President of the United States.

A key transition figure and attorney for President-elect Donald J. Trump is being investigated by Mr. Trump’s own team on suspicion of corruption.

 

According to reports in the New York Times and the Washington Post, investigators believe Boris Epshteyn sought money from potential appointees in the new administration.

 

Citing three people briefed on the matter, the Times reported that Mr. Trump has been told the results of a review that concluded that Mr. Epshteyn had solicited money from two people to promote them to Mr. Trump, one of them being Treasury Secretary-nominee Scott Bessent.

 

According to the review by David Warrington, a counsel for Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign, Mr. Epshteyn suggested to Mr. Bessent early this year that he pay him $30,000 to $40,000 a month to “promote” Mr. Bessent in Mr. Trump’s presence, the Times reported.

 

Mr. Bessent did not accept.

 

Mr. Epshteyn denied the accusations, the Post reported.

 

“I am honored to work for President Trump and with his team,” he said in a statement. “These fake claims are false and defamatory and will not distract us from Making America Great Again.”

Scott Bessant would NEVER and I mean never pay to get chosen. I've watched him for the last year or so on bannon. Bessent served and advised Trump in his first term. Interesting seeing his name again so soon. It was only a week ago in an Axios report that Elon allegedly had a "massive blow up" with Epshteyn, which "NY Post sources" denied happened, and now this story comes out.

 

Someone seems to be particularily trying to remove Epshteyn from Trump's team and the MSM left has a particular target on him right now.

 

It's also very possible that he did this stuff, but I find it intersting someone I've never heard of before has had 2 negative stories in the span of a week.

The tension allegedly surfaced between Epshteyn and Musk over Cabinet appointments to the new administration. The two were seen in a heated discussion at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club, according to what sources told Axios.
