ALLEGHENY COUNTY, MARYLAND: "Three known members of a transgender leftist extremist "cult" linked to six violent deaths across the U.S. as well as a history of escapes were arrested in rural western Maryland on Feb. 16, after evading law enforcement and officials for years. Group leader Jack Amadeus LaSota, 34, known by the alias "Ziz," was taken into custody by Maryland State Police, as was Michelle Jacqueline "Jamie" Zajko, 32, and Daniel Arthur "Hastur" Blank, 26. Lasota and Zajko were armed. They are facing charges of trespassing on private property, firearm offenses, and obstruction and hindering. Zajko is charged with resisting or interfering with an arrest, but none of them are accused of using their guns or assaulting the state trooper.

The Post Millennial can exclusively report that LaSota, Zajko and fellow members Felix "Ophelia" Bauckholt and Teresa "Milo" Youngblut, two militants allegedly involved in the deadly shootout with the U.S. Border Patrol agent in Vermont last month, lived together in Airbnb units in Chatham County, N.C.

Zajko was named as a person of possible interest by ATF authorities on Jan. 21, the day after the deadly shootout between two members of the group and a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Coventry, Vermont.

Zajko remains under investigation in the double murder of his parents, who were killed on New Year's Eve in 2022 in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

LaSota, the mysterious "genius" leader of the group who formerly worked for NASA, has repeatedly escaped from authorities until his third arrest on Sunday.

"The FBI is currently coordinating with our partners from Maryland State Police following the arrest of three individuals on state charges in Allegheny County, Maryland," the FBI told TPM in a statement. "The FBI's investigation into the assault on U.S. Border Patrol Agent Maland remains active, and we will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to follow every lead and investigate anyone with potential connections to our subject."

China Furious After State Dept Changes Line On 'Taiwan Independence'

China is furious after a State Department fact sheet on Taiwan has been updated. The new updated version has dropped a line which previously stated "we do not support Taiwan independence."

 

The State Department has downplayed it as a "routine" update to its online fact sheet on American relations with Taiwan. The change happened last week, but has now triggered a strong rebuke from Beijing, which fears Washington is changing its official long-running policy of not officially endorsing effots toward Taiwan political independence and sovereignty.

 

The fact sheet still displays a US commitment to 'One China' - but still the Chinese Foreign Ministry has on Monday called on the Trump administration to "immediately correct its mistakes" over the removal of the line.

 

The statement from Beijing warned of "further serious damage" to China-US relations amid a return of Trump's 'America First' policy.

 

"The US State Department’s revision of the list of facts regarding US-Taiwan relations represents a serious regression in its stance on Taiwan…(and) sends a seriously erroneous message to the separatist forces advocating for Taiwan independence," ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said in a briefing.

 

"This is further evidence of the US stubbornly adhering to the erroneous policy of using Taiwan to contain China. We urge the US to immediately correct its mistakes," Guo added, and emphasized Trump must handle the Taiwan issue with "utmost caution."

 

As for the updated State Dept. page, it states that "We continue to have an abiding interest in peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. We oppose any unilateral changes to the status quo from either side."

The secretary of State is taking positions that were once anathema and sounding very Trumpy online.

He could have given aid groups some time to prove they deserved funding instead of cutting the money off first. He could have carried out a full review of USAID staffing and made careful decisions about who to lay off instead of going along with a sudden mass purge. Now he may find himself spending way too much time with lawyers and depositions.

 

When I asked the senior Trump administration official close to Rubio whether the secretary regrets the disruptive process underway, the official insisted that the outcome is what matters.

 

“People have talked about doing these reforms for decades, and they haven’t done it. People have had processes. They’ve had committees. They’ve had legislation, blah, blah, blah,” the official said. “This period of transition is difficult. But the goal at the end of it is to have a foreign policy, a foreign assistance program that is aligned with U.S. interests and respects taxpayer dollars.”

 

Rubio is a fairly gifted speaker who can charm even skeptics. Privately, too, he’s tried to reassure U.S. diplomats and foreign counterparts, urging them to be patient.

 

U.S. diplomats, though, are trained to separate reality from rhetoric. They don’t see a strategy. They see a sledgehammer.

 

“The path of destruction is wide,” another U.S. diplomat said.

 

Even as USAID is upended, Rubio is preparing to allow upheaval at the State Department. A person familiar with internal discussions at State — granted anonymity because they lacked permission to talk to media — said Rubio is on board with at least a 20 percent staff cut and possibly closing a large number of embassies.

 

Maybe Rubio’s head-down, go-along approach will help him hang on to the title of secretary of State for longer than many in Washington expect. As I wrote before, diminishing yourself is one way to survive under Trump.

 

That said, Rubio may not have the actual power at Foggy Bottom, but he still bears responsibility for what happens there.

DOGE discovers $4.7 trillion in Treasury payments were missing critical code: ‘Traceability almost impossible’

 

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) announced Monday that some $4.7 trillion in payments from the Treasury Department were missing a critical tracking code which made tracing the transactions “almost impossible.”

 

The transactions were reportedly missing the Treasury Account Symbol, or TAS, an identification code which links a Treasury payment to a budget line item, according to DOGE, which described the use of such code as a “standard financial process.”

 

“In the Federal Government, the TAS field was optional for ~$4.7 Trillion in payments and was often left blank, making traceability almost impossible,” read an X post from DOGE.

 

Use of the TAS code is now mandatory, according to Elon Musk and DOGE.

 

The Elon Musk-led project to curb waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government said in light of the discovery use of the TAS code is now mandatory.

 

“As of Saturday, this is now a required field, increasing insight into where money is actually going,” DOGE said, thanking the Treasury Department for its “great work” implementing the change.

CDC 'disease detectors' among hundreds fired as Trump administration ramps up agency cuts

Administration officials last week informed CDC leaders of plans to cut up to 10% of its workforce as it targeted federal probationary employees.

The Trump administration on Saturday terminated hundreds of employees at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, including fellows responsible for key public health roles, according to two sources at the agency who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of concern over retaliation.

=•Among them were about two dozen workers who made up the Laboratory Leadership Service, or LLS, a group responsible for training public health laboratory staffers and supporting outbreak response efforts==. The two-year fellowship program launched in 2015, focusing on laboratory safety and regulatory compliance.

“We have come up with a new slogan for LLS: ‘the disease detectors.’ If you’re not testing, you don’t know what disease is there,” a current fellow, who was among those who received termination notices, told NBC News.

Termination emails, which were sent to LLS staff members Saturday evening, cited poor performance as the reason for the firings, even though most of the dismissed employees have “excellent” performance reviews, a midlevel CDC official said.

Multiple outlets reportedthat a larger sister program at CDC called the Epidemic Intelligence Service, or EIS, known as the agency’s “disease detectives,” was expected to be cut significantly, as well. As of Sunday, though, the two officials who spoke to NBC News had not heard of firings at EIS. One, a senior CDC official, said everyone who was going to be terminated had been notified by Sunday.

"Even if EIS was spared, there are multiple other fellowships that were not, and that's a pipeline for the next generation of CDC leaders," the senior official said. "We're being cut off at the knees. It is going to cripple public health for decades."

Other departments that had cuts included the Presidential Management Fellows, which aims to develop future public health leaders, and the Public Health Associate Program, which assigns fellows to local health agencies, the two officials said.

The termination process has been marked by chaos and a lack of transparency.

Almost two weeks ago, the Office of Personnel Management assigned CDC leadership to look through a list of employees who were in probationary or term-limited positions — including new directors, fellows and highly skilled noncitizen scientists — and designate each as “must be retained,” “mission critical” or “not mission critical.” According to the two CDC officials, the lists did not appear to have been used in the ultimate firing decisions.

Representatives for the White House, the CDC and the Department of Health and Human Services did not immediately reply to requests for comment.

In recent years, LLS fellows have assisted with dengue fever testing in American Samoa and Oropouche virus testing in Florida. In 2020, the group oversaw Covid-19 testing for thousands of Arizona residents.

The LLS fellows who received the termination notice said their co-workers were less concerned about their jobs than about what the moves signaled for public health.

"A lot of us, we could have gone to more lucrative careers," said the fellow, who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of concern of compromising their remaining weeks of paid leave. "We could have worked for pharma. We could have worked for biotech or something like that and made so much more money. But we're all passionate for public health and just want to see public health succeed."

The dismissal messages were sent the day after the Trump administration informed CDC leaders of plans to fire nearly 1,300 probationary employees at the agency, roughly one-tenth of its total workforce.

A representative for the Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the CDC, previously said the cuts were a part of the administration’s larger effort to reduce the size of the federal workforce.

“HHS is following the Administration’s guidance and taking action to support the President’s broader efforts to restructure and streamline the federal government. This is to ensure that HHS better serves the American people at the highest and most efficient standard,” Andrew Nixon, the department’s director of communications, wrote.

The president's executive order calling for federal workers to return to the office or lose their job spurred an increase in demand for homes in the city. At the same time, mass layoffs advised by the Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have left federal workers uncertain about their future and whether they would be needing a home in the area at all.

 

What to Know

As of Monday early morning, there were a total of 2,400 homes listed for sale on Zillow in Washington, D.C, 253 of which had been put on the market in the last seven days and 461 in the last 14 days. More than half the homes currently listed for sale on the real estate platform, 1,489, have been added in the past 90 days.

 

Some homeowners in Washington, D.C, are not only apparently rushing to sell their properties in the city, but they are also willing to slash prices to attract reluctant buyers. Of the 2,400 homes currently listed for sale on Zillow,426 have seen a price reduction.

 

On Zillow, a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom 1,138 square-foot condo in Southwest Washington was listed for $349,900, after a cut of $10,000, and a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom 1,574 square-foot home in Northwest Washington waslisted for $1,390,00 after the seller slashed the price by $60,000.

Trump Fires Biden-Picked Lawyers at Immigration Courts

President Donald Trump’s deputies have fired more than 20 immigration lawyers from the Department of Justice, prompting an uproar in pro-migration media outlets.

 

President Joe Biden’s deputies recently hired the lawyers to act as pro-migration judges in the nation’s immigration courts, whose roughly 700 judges are now under the control of Trump’s justice department, now headed by Pam Bondi.

Zachary Cunha, the US Attorney for Rhode Island, resigned on Monday after President Trump ordered him to step down.

 

The Justice Department said Zachary Cunha intended to resign at the end of the week but Trump ordered him to step down immediately.

 

“Zachary A. Cunha announced today that he has stepped down from his position as United States Attorney for the District of Rhode Island, effective immediately, after receiving notification from the White House that the President has directed him to do so. Mr. Cunha previously tendered a letter of resignation to the President and the Attorney General on February 7, 2025, in which he indicated his intent to leave office at the end of this week,” the Justice Department said in a statement on Monday.

 

“I am deeply grateful to Senators Reed and Whitehouse for recommending my nomination to the White House, and to President Biden for his trust and confidence in appointing me to serve this extraordinary District and its citizens as United States Attorney. I have worked hard every day to live up to the example of excellence set by my thirty-eight distinguished predecessors over the 235-year history of this Office, and it has been the honor of my career to do this job,” Zachary Cunha said in a statement.

 

“Over the three years that I have had the high privilege to serve as U.S. Attorney, it has been my constant goal to make sure that the work of this District punched far above the weight that our compact geography and small staff might imply. By every measure, the men and women of this Office have met that goal, again and again, across every category in which we prosecute and litigate on behalf of the people of the Ocean State,” Zachary Cunha said.

 

President Trump fired approximately a dozen Biden-appointed US Attorneys last week.

 

“A source familiar with the matter told NBC News that one of the fired U.S. attorneys received a letter from Trent Morse, the deputy director of the Office of Presidential Personnel, that read: “At the direction of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as U.S. Attorney is terminated, effective immediately.”” NBC News reported last week.

Washington Post backs out of ‘Fire Elon Musk’ ad order

(The Hill) — The Washington Post this week backed out of a “Fire Elon Musk” advertising order that was to run as a wrap on some of its Tuesday editions, according to the advocacy group Common Cause.

The group said it signed a $115,000 agreement with The Post to run the ad that would have covered the front and back page of the Tuesday paper as well as a full-page ad with the same theme inside the paper. It said it planned to purchase the ad in collaboration with the Southern Poverty Law Center Action Fund.

The ad’s design features a large picture of Musk with his head tilted back, laughing, along with a cutout image of the White House and large white text: “Who’s running this country: Donald Trump or Elon Musk?”

Lower down on the page, it features smaller font text stating: “Since day one, Elon has created chaos and confusion and put our livelihoods at risk. And he is accountable to no one but himself.”

“The Constitution only allows for one president at a time. Call your senators and tell them it’s time Donald Trump fire Elon Musk,” it says, followed by the URL FireMusk.org.

Common Cause President Virginia Kase Solomón said The Post’s advertising sales representative was informed of the nature of the ad and seemed confident that running it over the paper wouldn’t be a problem.

The paper with the wrap ad was supposed to be delivered to subscribers at the Congress, the Pentagon and the White House.

“We submitted the artwork back on Tuesday of last week. I’m assuming it went through a legal department or other kind of review. They said, ‘You can have something inside the paper but you can’t do the wrap.’ We said thanks, no thanks because we had a lot of questions,” Kase Solomón told The Hill.

Common Cause learned on Friday that The Post would not run the outside-the-paper ad criticizing Musk.

“Is it because we’re critical of what’s happening with Elon Musk? Is it only ok to run things in The Post now that won’t anger the president or won’t have him calling Jeff Bezos asking why this was allowed,” she said, referring to The Post’s owner, who is also the founder of Amazon and the space company Blue Origin.

She said The Post did not provide an explanation for why it decided not to run the wrap ad.

A spokesperson for The Post declined to comment as the publication has a policy of not talking about internal decisions related to specific advertising campaigns.

The Post’s general guidelines for advertising state that advertisers are responsible for complying with applicable law and regulation for political advertising, including using any required disclaimers.

And while The Post accepts advertising on all points of view, it reserves the right to require substantiation of factual claims. And it requires that advertisers obtain “the requisite permissions” when using the names or likenesses of individuals.

Kase Solomón, the president of Common Cause, said the rejection of the wrap ad was a “surprise” because the sample art the group received from The Post to get a sense of what to expect from its ad was a wrap ad funded by the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) highlighting President Trump’s promise to “end the electric vehicle mandate on Day 1.”

It featured a large picture of the president flashing a thumbs up.

“They gave us some sample art to show us what it would look like,” she said. “It was a thank-you Donald Trump piece of art,” she said.

“It just causes concern for us. Are they fearful of his reaction?” she said of Trump.

She cited The Post’s decision not to make an endorsement in the 2024 presidential race and its decision not to run a cartoon showing caricatures of Bezos, Mickey Mouse and others offering bags of money to a large, statuesque Trump figure.

Kase Solomón said the planned $115,000 ad was a “huge” expenditure for her group. It had not previously taken out a wrap ad with The Post.

She said it was “a signed agreement” or a signed purchase order. Common Cause and the Southern Poverty Law Center Action Fund didn’t pay anything since the ad didn’t run.

“The account representative said this didn’t raise any alarms but we would have to submit the artwork, obviously. But [over] the campaign itself they didn’t raise any concerns that it would be something too inflammatory for them,” she said.

Common Cause has organized thousands of calls to Congress and the White House raising concerns about Musk’s role in reshaping the federal government. It has also collected 60,000 signatures on a petition protesting Musk.

Common Cause, the Southern Poverty Law Center Action Fund and End Citizens United launched the “Fire Elon Musk” campaign on Feb. 3.

The Nascent Sanhedrin published an open letter to President Donald Trump, blessing him for putting faith at the forefront by establishing a White House Faith Office. The Sanhedrin called on the President to establish an International Divine Court for all nations.

With tears streaming down his face, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told a gathering of Haida Nation leaders and community members that he couldn't think of a better place to make one of his final trips as Canada's leader.

"Haida Gwaii belongs to you, the Haida people," he said, as the crowd cheered, clapped and rose to its feet. "This is only the beginning of a new chapter: between the Haida Nation and the Canadian government, Trudeau said.

The federal government and the Haida Nation signed a historic agreement Monday recognizing Aboriginal title over the archipelago of Haida Gwaii off British Columbia's northern coast.

Trudeau told the crowd at an official signing ceremony at the Skidegate community hall that Haida Gwaii is a special place for him, having first visited with his father and brothers in 1976.

"Everything has come full circle," he told the crowd, some of whom were dressed in elaborate regalia, while others wore traditional woven cedar hats.

Trudeau said the agreement enshrines the right of the Haida to control their own destiny.

"A new chapter (that) confirms an incontrovertible and long-known truth: Haida Gwaii belongs to you," he said to thunderous applause.

Trudeau said the landmark agreement "recognizes that the Haida people have lived here since time immemorial. That the Haida people have an inalienable right to use, manage and enjoy the lands of Haida Gwaii as they see fit. That self-determination is the only path toward true reconciliation."

The Big Tide Haida Title Lands Agreement affirms that the Haida have Aboriginal title over all of the islands' lands, beds of freshwater bodies, and foreshores to the low-tide mark.

It will transition the Crown-title land to the Haida people, granting them an inherent legal right to the land.

The transfer of the underlying title would affect how courts interpret issues involving disputes.

Gaagwiis Jason Alsop, president of the Council of the Haida Nation, held up the agreement signed Monday to show the crowd.

He said the ceremony represents a move from an era of denial, occupation and resistance to one of peaceful coexistence and recognition that "this is Haida land."

Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Gary Anandasangaree told the crowd gathered for the ceremony that it was a moment where history was being made.

Anandasangaree said in an earlier interview that the agreement will kick off a five-year transition period and will require legislation to iron out all the details about how this will apply in practice.

He said it is the first time the federal government has recognized Aboriginal title through negotiations.

Ottawa said it will work respectfully and co-operatively with the Haida Nation on matters relating to Haida Gwaii.

It said both governments have agreed the shift will be "orderly and incremental" to provide stability to residents and other interest holders.

The agreement follows similar recognition by the B.C. government last year.

It resolves a four-decade-long fight that began with a logging blockade and became an intensely fought legal battle.

The agreement comes more than two decades after the Council of the Haida Nation launched a legal challenge against Canada and the province, seeking a declaration of Aboriginal title.

The ministry said the three parties have been negotiating since 2021 to "incrementally negotiate" matters that would otherwise have to be litigated.

It said Canada provided $59 million in funding to the Haida in an "advance capital transfer" to boost the nation's "governance capacity building."

About 15 per cent of Haida Gwaii is owned, managed or used by the federal government, including a national park and Haida heritage site.

A further two per cent are owned by other parties.

Alsop has called the new law in B.C. a "step toward peaceful coexistence" with the province.

He said in April that the nation planned on taking control of Haida Gwaii's economy according to its values and traditions, taking a sustainable rather than exploitive approach to the land and the sea.

The provincial Opposition B.C. Conservative Party has criticized the agreement, saying it puts private landowners "at the mercy of Haida (and) future Haida Indigenous law."

But the First Nations Leadership Council in B.C. has said the agreement does not affect private property rights.

Anandasangaree dismissed the concerns about impacts on landowners as a "lot of noise."

President Trump on Sunday brushed off reporting that the European Union might respond to his “reciprocal” tariff policy by moving to block imports of certain American food products.

 

“That’s all right. I don’t mind. Let them do it. Let them do it,” Trump told reporters.

 

“They’re just hurting themselves if they do that,” he continued. “I can’t imagine it, but it doesn’t matter.”

 

The European Commission will agree next week to explore greater import limits on certain U.S. food items made to different standards, the Financial Times reported Sunday, citing three unidentified officials.

 

Initial targets of the import ban could reportedly include soybean crops grown in the U.S., which allow for certain pesticides that EU farmers are not allowed to use.

 

“We have very clear signals from the parliament, very clear signals also from the member states and from our farmers: whatever is banned in the EU, it should be banned in the EU, even if it is an imported product,” European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Olivér Várhelyi told the Financial Times in an interview last month.

 

Trump last week signed a presidential memorandum proposing reciprocal tariffs that he maintains would crack down on unfair and discriminatory tariffs from both adversaries and allies.

 

The tariffs were not immediately imposed, but the signing of the memo allows his administration to begin a review process to get them started. The reciprocal tariffs would be customized for each foreign trading partner, based on five different areas: tariffs the nation imposes on U.S. products, unfair taxes imposed, cost to U.S. businesses and consumers from another country’s policies, exchange rates, and any other practices the trade representative’s office determines is unfair.

 

White House officials said Trump wants to move rapidly on imposing the tariffs, suggesting it would be “weeks” and no longer than “a few months” until they are in place.

 

Trump defended the reciprocal tariff policy in his remarks to reporters Sunday.

 

“We’re having reciprocal tariffs. Whatever they charge, we charge. It’s very simple. If a certain country — like India, which is very high tariff — if they charge us X dollars, we charge them X dollars,” Trump said.

 

“It’s a fair thing to do,” he added. “Even the media said it was fair, and it’s going to be very good for the United States.”

Trump Administration Asks Supreme Court To Permit Firing Of Office Of Special Counsel Chief

 

The Trump administration asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Feb. 16 to allow it to fire the head of an agency that protects whistleblowers after lower courts said it could not.

 

Special Counsel Hampton Dellinger, who heads the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, argues he may only be terminated for misconduct during his fixed-term appointment. Dellinger said a brief emailed notice he received Feb. 7 informed him he was being fired and did not explain why. New administrations routinely fire government officials without providing a reason.

 

Nominated by President Joe Biden, Dellinger was confirmed 49-47 for a five-year term by the U.S. Senate on Feb. 27, 2024.

 

The office describes itself as “an independent federal investigative and prosecutorial agency” whose “primary mission is to safeguard the merit system by protecting federal employees and applicants from prohibited personnel practices (PPPs), especially reprisal for whistleblowing.”

 

The Office of Special Counsel also enforces the Hatch Act, which prevents federal employees from engaging in partisan political activity, and safeguards the employment-related rights of military service members.

 

As the first appeal to the Supreme Court lodged by the new administration that took power on Jan. 20, the new emergency application in the case of Bessent v. Dellinger has not yet been docketed by the nation’s highest court, which means it does not yet appear in the court’s searchable online database. It may be docketed, or officially accepted for filing, on Feb. 18, the first business day after the Feb. 17 federal holiday.

 

The application says the government has a “very high” likelihood of succeeding on the merits. The Constitution “empowers the President to remove, at will, the single head of an agency, such as the Special Counsel,” the filing reads.

 

Federal district courts, like the one that temporarily blocked the removal of Dellinger, do not have the authority “to reinstate principal officers,” according to the filing.

 

The lower court has “erred in ways that threaten the separation of powers,” the document said, referring to a constitutional doctrine that divides the government into three branches to prevent any single branch from accumulating too much power.

The story of Deloitte and the Duffy affair is important because it highlights how the Big Four auditing giants can be open to corruption and political influence. And how they’re often not objective or neutral.

 

Deloitte is the largest of the Big Four – which also includes KPMG, Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Together, these four firms form a powerful cartel that wields tremendous clout in the finance, business and government circles worldwide. Their influence seeps into every aspect of the economy.

 

Indeed, collectively, the Big Four audit 490 of the S&P 500 companies. In turn, they’ve evolved into huge conglomerates themselves – with combined 2017 revenues of US$134-billion, employing 945,000 people around the world. In fact, according to Forbes, Deloitte is the fourth-largest private company in America.

 

Moreover, the Big Four are important because modern societies rely on accountants to verify financial records for shareholders, thereby safeguarding the economy at large. “An audit is about a public good,” says Natasha Landell-Mills, a partner with the London, UK-based investment firm, Sarasin & Partners LLP, and a critic of the profession.

 

Today, however, the Big Four are facing a crisis of credibility of their own making, embroiled in scandal after scandal in multiple jurisdictions. Increasingly, they stand accused of turning a blind eye, and even enabling, corporate fraud and questionable accounting. They’ve also emerged as central players in the creation and abuse of offshore tax havens. And they've become champions of the privatization of government services. And yet they “perform their duties with relative impunity,” writes Richard Brooks, a British journalist in his recent book, Bean Counters: The Triumph of the Accountants and How They Broke Capitalism. “They are free to make profit without fearing serious consequences of their abuses.”

 

In Canada, court cases, scandals and insights from experts suggest Deloitte is the most egregious of the lot. “Deloitte sells the public an image that they are wonderful, they’re up-to-date, they are professional, they are experts,” says Prem Sikka, an accounting professor at the University of Sheffield in the UK whom I spoke to when researching my Globe article. “But at the same time, there is a dark side.”

 

Founded in the UK in the late 1800s, Deloitte is now a privately-held giant with global revenues of (US) $43.2-billion, 264,000 employees in 150 countries and headquartered in London, England.

They're actually uncovering conspiracies that are available through open-source research. You know, Devin and I talk regularly and then, you know, I talk with the president all the time as well. And we're just blown away at the amount of acumen some of these people have and how quick they are to to grab it and suss through it and sort of thin it down and make it presentable, you know. And it's actually heartening to me to hear that people are going to [Patel's website] and getting the documents from the [INAUDIBLE]. That's the whole point. It's free.

 

Don't listen to my commentary. Go get the government documents that expose their own corruption, that show their own unethical behavior. From January 6, from Durham, from Russiagate, from Ukraine, impeachment one, whatever. We're going to keep getting those documents and keep putting them out. And that's part of the mission at [Patel's website]. It's the education component of our charity, we're a 501(c)(3), is to get this out there.

 

So I'm glad people are reading it. We're going to keep doing it. And that is – that is the singular best way on how you effectuate the change that you want in your community. And if it's Q or whatever movement that's getting that information out, I am all for it, every day of the week.

Judge refuses to block DOGE’s access to student borrower data

A federal judge Monday evening declined to block Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)from gaining access to Education Department data on student borrowers.

 

U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss ruled that the University of California Student Association (USCA), which brought the lawsuit, had not shown sufficient irreparable harm to receive such immediate relief.

 

“Because the Court concludes that UCSA has failed to clear that essential hurdle, the Court’s analysis also ends there,”wrote Moss, who was appointed by former President Obama.

 

“The Court leaves for another day consideration of whether USCA’s has standing to sue and has stated a claim upon which relief may be granted. Those questions are less clear cut and are better answered on a more complete record,” Moss continued.

 

Musk’s DOGE has moved rapidly since President Trump’s inauguration to install employees at federal agencies with an aim of cutting trillions of dollars in government spending, quickly drawing legal challenges.

 

The student government raised alarm that Musk’s team would be able to access students’ personal data, including tax information, submitted to the Education Department as part of federal financial aid applications. The lawsuit claims the access violated federal privacy laws.

 

“ED and DOGE staffers are obligated to use UCSA members’ information for lawful purposes within the mission of the Department of Education and to keep it confidential, in accordance with the Privacy Act, tax laws, and other federal law,” Moss noted in his ruling.

 

The Hill has reached out to Public Citizen, a left-leaning consumer advocacy group that represents the plaintiffs, for comment.

 

Moss’s decisioncomes days after another judge declined to immediately block DOGE from accessing systems at the Labor Department, Department of Health and Human Services and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

 

But under yet another judge’s ruling, DOGE personnel are blocked from accessing critical Treasury Department payment systems that are used to dole out trillions of dollars per year.

 

A judge is also set to rule soon on whether to block DOGE from accessing systems at seven federal agencies.

 

In that case, Joshua Fisher, the director of the White House administration office, submitted a sworn declaration earlier Monday that Musk is a senior adviser to the president.

 

“He is not an employee of the U.S. DOGE Service or U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization. Mr. Musk is not the U.S. DOGE Service Administrator,” Fisher wrote.
