The Department of Health and Human Services has paused work on a COVID-19 vaccine that can be taken orally.

“While it is crucial that the Department [of] Health and Human Services (HHS) support pandemic preparedness, four years of the Biden administration’s failed oversight have made it necessary to review agreements for vaccine production, including Vaxart’s,” Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said, according to Fox News.

“I look forward to working with Vaxart and medical experts to ensure this work produces safe, effective, and fiscal-minded vaccine technology,” he added.

Nuclear-armed Ukraine not a ‘serious offer’ – Rubio

The top US diplomat has reiterated Washington’s opposition to Zelensky’s calls for an atomic arsenal

US Secretary of State Marko Rubio has dismissed calls by Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky for a nuclear capability, labeling the idea unrealistic. He emphasized that Washington is seeking global nuclear reduction.

Zelensky has suggested for years that Kiev should pursue nuclear armament, asserting that Ukraine previously possessed nuclear weapons and surrendered them under pressure from the US, UK, and Russia. More recently, he has framed nuclear arms as an alternative to NATO membership.

”I don’t think anyone would think that’s a serious offer on their part, nor do I think equipping them with nuclear weapons is a solution to the problem,” Rubio said in an interview with Breitbart News on Tuesday.“We want less nuclear-armed countries, not more.”

US Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg earlier assessed the likelihood of Ukraine acquiring nuclear weapons as “somewhere between slim and none,” noting thatZelensky's proposal defies “common sense.”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova characterized Zelensky’s nuclearrhetoric as that of a “maniac,” claiming it reflects Kiev’s attempts to blackmail other nations.

At the time of the USSR’s dissolution, about one-third of its nuclear arsenal was stationed in Soviet Ukraine. Zelensky has claimed that the weapons were “Ukrainian” despite Kiev lacking the capability to deploy them. They were removed in the 1990s as part of broader post-Cold War disarmament efforts alongside those in Belarus and Kazakhstan.

During a speech at the Munich Security Conference in February 2022, just days before the escalation of the conflict with Russia, Zelensky hinted at the possibility of Ukraine building atomic weapons. Kiev contends that the US and UK have failed to uphold their commitments under the Budapest Memorandum, signed when Ukraine agreed to transfer Soviet nuclear weapons to Russia. Western officials, however, dispute that claim.

Pentagon to be ‘shaken up’ – White House

Public trust in the US military is low after seven failed audits, says Karoline Leavitt

US President Donald Trump has ordered asignificant overhaul of the Pentagon following years of financial mismanagement, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday.

The Department of Defense has never passed an independent financial audit since Congress mandated the process in 2018. Its most recent audit, inNovember 2024, found that only seven of 30 sub-agencies could fully account for their expenditures. Pentagon officials admitted they are unlikely to achieve a clean audit before 2028.

“They failed seven audits in a row;the trust in our United States military, amongst the warfighters, is low,” Leavitt told reporters at a press briefing. “The president is shaking up the Pentagon and the Department of Defense, of course, with Secretary [Pete] Hegseth leading, and he has the right to do such a thing.”

The White House’s latest announcement follows last week’s dismissal of Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Charles Q. Brown Jr., along with several other high-ranking Pentagon officials, including Admiral Lisa Franchetti – the first woman to command the US Navy. The administration has framed these firings as part of a broader effort to improve accountability and efficiency within the military.

Defense Secretary PeteHegseth= has echoed the call for change, rejecting past policies that he claims prioritized diversity initiatives over military effectiveness==. “In this department, we will treat everyone equally,” Hegseth said earlier this month. “We will judge you as an individual by your merit.”

The administration’s push for reforms includes an extensive financial audit of the Pentagon, led by the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk. ‘His life was on hold’: Sexual assault charges dropped against former NASA engineer Eric Sim

Eric Sim, a now 38-year-old former NASA engineer, was set to go to trial in just two days on seven sexual assault charges, but on Tuesday, all cases were dismissed after prosecutors said a majority couldn’t be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Sim, who had been a star in a viral NASA “Gangnam Style” parody video in 2012, was arrested last March at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

He’d been out of jail on a $700,000 bond and was forced to resign his position at NASA, his defense attorney Neal Davis said.

According to records, the alleged assaults occurred between 2019 and 2022.

Sim used dating apps like Hinge, East Meets East, and OkCupid to meet women, pretending he wanted a serious relationship before assaulting them, prosecutors said at a press conference last April, when they sought victims internationally.

A search warrant revealed investigators found sex tapes on Sim’s devices and a spreadsheet that listed hundreds of women and details about their sexual encounters.

At that press conference, former District Attorney Kim Ogg said Sim’s NASA credentials and international travel suggested there were more victims, but after new District Attorney Sean Teare’s administration took a deep dive into the evidence, the charges were dropped.

Of the seven dismissals, one of them was at the victim’s request, according to records.

“The survivors in these cases are our priority. They are the victims of predatory acts, and we stand firm in recognizing their trauma. Forcing them to relive their pain in a public courtroom serves no purpose.

Over the past 11 months, our investigators and prosecutors have sifted through terabytes of data, only to uncover insufficient evidence to prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt.

We owe it to these survivors to ensure justice, not re-victimization,” DA Sean Teare’s office wrote in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

Sim’s defense attorney, Neal Davis, called the case politically motivated.

“Politics are politics, it was an election year, HPD rape unit was under severe criticism for dropping the ball on cases. And that’s where this case came about.

Eric Sim became a political football and he became the face of some sort of serial rapist when in fact he didn’t do any of this. And that’s what I’ve said since day one.

My question to Miss Ogg is, ‘Where does he go to get his reputation back? How does he put his life back together?’” Davis said.

KPRC 2 has tried to reach Ogg for a response.

“I said this case is going to be dismissed or won from day one. I was confident of it then and I’m confident of it now.

And I’m just glad we have the ear of the DA’s office to listen to us, because what we did was collaborate with them and explain the evidence we had and our position,” Davis said.

He said there was a lot of digital forensic evidence, including text messages, that helped lead to the dismissals.

“This whole thing devastated (Sim). He lost his job, lived under house arrest for a year, and his life was on hold,” Davis said. “It’s a good start, but it’ll be hard for him to completely rebuild from this.”

Davis added that Sim is now focused on getting his life and reputation back on track, although he noted that the damage to his name may never go away.

The US opted not to support a joint World Trade Organization (WTO) statement decrying Russia’s “aggression against Ukraine”, according to a diplomatic source and a Geneva trade official, cited by Reuters.

A few months ago, a federal judge ordered the US Environmental Protection Agency to regulate fluoride in drinking water because high levels could pose a risk to children’s intellectual development.

The Utah measure is notable because it would take the decision out of local municipalities’ hands. A sponsor of the bill said that people should be able to get fluoride on their own, and only if they choose to do so. The bill also includes a deregulation for prescription fluoride pills.

Airman dead after shooting at Kirtland Air Force Base

A shooting at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Saturday left one airman dead and another injured, according to a statement from the base.

Airman Basic Brion Teel-Scott, 27, of the 377th Security Forces Squadron, died after attempting to escape an “attempted detention,” an Air Force news release said.

“Losing a member of your team is never easy, but the circumstances of this incident make it that much harder,” said Col. Michael Power, 377th Air Base Wing and installation commander at Kirtland.

“Additionally, we are ensuring our injured defender, the wingmen of both members, and our base community receive the best possible care and support.”

The injured airman, whose identity was not released by the Air Force, was shot in the hand. That airman was transported to the University of New Mexico Medical Center and released later with non-life-threatening injuries.

An incident occurred outside the base’s Truman gate Saturday during the early morning hours, and 377th Security Forces personnel responded to the scene at 2 a.m.

The arrival of Security Forces resulted in a shooting, during which the airman was shot in the hand, the release said.

Security Forces found Teel-Scott dead at the scene, and the cause of his death is under investigation, the base said. The service did not immediately provide further details about who was responsible for the airman’s death.

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations is investigating the incident with the FBI and the Albuquerque Police Department. There’s no current threat to the public, the base said in its release.
