Question:

Should Christian Swear On Bible In Court?

Answer:

I cannot think of any biblical reason that a Christian cannot swear on the Bible if asked to in court.

Now, it is true that Jesus said in Matthew 5:33-37 that we should not swear at all. However, we need to consider the context. In the context of Matthew 5, Jesus is talking about a person who is saying something and trying to convince the person they are talking to that they are telling the truth by swearing according to the temple (or the Bible, or…). In essence, Jesus is saying to his followers, “Look, just tell the truth!” In the situation in a court, we can assume that the Christian is telling the truth, and expects to be believed, but the state is asking the person to swear on the Bible. Because it is the state calling us to swear on the Bible, rather than us trying to convince we are telling the truth the situation is very different.

Consider the alternative. We are in court and they ask us to swear by the Bible that we will tell the truth. We say, “no, I will not swear to tell the truth.” A Christian may not need another Christian to swear to tell the truth, but the state is dealing with a different range of people, and therefore asks people to swear. This is not a matter of a possibly dishonest person trying to convince someone that we are telling the truth by calling on the temple or the Bible.

Some Christians take Matthew 5:33-37 as proof that we cannot swear at all. I suppose that if it bothered the conscience of a believer to swear in court, based on Matthew 5, then they should not do so (Romans 14:23), but to make this a matter of doctrine is not justified by Matthew 5, given the context. That is my view.

DC’s Leftist Mayor Hit with Ethics Complaint Over ‘Troubling Pattern’

On Saturday, she was at a “pride” event vying for the attention of a worldwide pop czarina.

A few days later, she got some unwanted attention from a government watchdog, instead.

Democratic Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser is facing down an ethics complaint filed by the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), a nonpartisan watchdog, with the Board of Ethics and Government Accountability, accordingto Fox News.

The news comes just days after Bowser was joking around with attendees of an LGBT festival in D.C. that pop star Shakira should re-consider cancelling her tour in the area due to traveling conflicts, as noted by WTOP.

The complaint alleged thatBowser received improper benefits, including accepting illegal trips and other hospitality gifts, during a number of outings as D.C. mayor.

Fox noted that Bowserapparently enjoyed “high-profile trips to Doha, Qatar, for the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference, the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, and trips to Dubai, Las Vegas, Miami and Mar-a-Lago.”

The complaint from FACT highlights those issues, and more, such as thefact that the “district has no records” of these trips.

“Although the public and press has sought information about these trips, including who paid for them and their purpose,the mayor’s office has provided false information or not answered questions,” FACT said in its complaint. “Thus, it is imperative that the Board immediately act.”

FACT continued:“A fundamental ethics principle aimed at preventing corruption prohibits our elected officials from accepting bribes, donations, gifts, kickbacks, or anything of value.

“Where an exception to the rule applies, generally there must be full public disclosure made in a timely manner,” the complaint said.

“Under Washington D.C. law, government officials are forbidden from accepting certain gifts. Gifts are broadly defined to include a ‘gratuity, favor, discount, entertainment, hospitality, loan, forbearance, or other item having monetary value.’

“Specifically, gifts include trips (meals, lodging, and transportation) whether they are provided in-kind, purchased in advance, or reimbursed after the expense occurred.”(then the have to do this to everyone in Congress)

FACT asserted that the ==Qatar trip was especially problematic. Bowser was asked about those expenses — and gave nothing, initially.

“Yet, unbelievably, it wasn’t until a reporter’s Freedom of Information Act request in March 2025 that this information was publicly revealed—more specifically that Qatar paid more than $61,930 for the trip the mayor’s office was now attempting to retroactively describe as an ‘in-kind donation,’” FACT claimed.

But the trips are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Bowser’s apparent discretionary issues.

“It is not simply the Qatar trip, but a troubling pattern from Mar-A-Lago to Doha to Augusta National –the District has no record of who paid for these trips or what public purpose they served, if there was one at all,” Kendra Arnold, executive director of FACT, told Fox. “The ethics rules exist to protect against corruption, and when they are ignored, the public’s trust erodes.

“I urge the Board to investigate and enforce the law without delay.”

I was there on 911 in the aftermath. Around where the passports were found, the DS put a plane tire, parts of the aluminum body, and part of the landing gear on pile of debris about 6 - 8 feet tall. It was aluminum color with an orange strip that looked like it had been ripped off of another plane by heavy equipment. Now think for a second, how could this be? If the tire went into the building then it would have been lodged in a floor and would have to climb 20 or so floors to be on top of the pile. If the tire was shot up in the air on impact, then it would have to come down at least 45 minutes later after the buildings collapsed in order to remain on top of the pile. These people are stupid. It was all CGI and no planes ever hit. A 3D shaded hologram at best, which is why some videos could not see the hologram at their cameras angle. Plus countless fire fighters on that day testified to multiple explosions and demolition. We are far beyond these points.

Arab hijackers somehow managing to commandeer 4 planes simultaneously and fly them around US airspace for nearly 2 hours ,crashing them into important buildings, without the US intelligence services having any idea that it was coming, and without the Air Force knowing what to do.

"According to the practitioners of the fruit loop, 19 Arabs took over the 4 planes by subduing the passengers and crew through the use of guns,knives,box cutters and gas, and then used electronic guidance systems which they had smuggled on board to fly the planes to their targets.

The suspension of disbelief required for this outrageous concoction is only for the hard core conspiracy theorist. For a start, they conveniently skip over the awkward fact that there weren't any Arabs on the planes. If there were, one must speculate that they somehow got on board without being filmed by any of the security cameras and without being registered on the passenger lists. But the curly question of how they are supposed to have got on board is all too mundane for the exciting world of the conspiracy theorist. With vague mumblings that they must have been using false ID ( but never specifying which IDs they are alleged to have used, or how these were traced to their real identities), they quickly bypass this problem, to relate exciting and sinister tales about how some of the fictitious fiends were actually searched before boarding because they looked suspicious. However, as inevitably happens with any web of lies, this simply paints them into an even more difficult corner. How are they supposed to have got on board with all that stuff if they were searched ? And if they used gas in a confined space, they would have been affected themselves unless they also had masks in their luggage.

"Excuse me sir, why do you have a boxcutter, a gun, a container of gas, a gas mask and an electronic guidance unit in your luggage?"

Asking any of these basic questions to a conspiracy theorist is likely to cause a sudden leap to the claim that we know that they were on board because they left a credit card trail for the tickets they had purchased and cars they had rented. So if they used credit cards that identified them, how does that reconcile with the claim that they used false IDs to get on to the plane? But by this time ,the fruit loop is in full swing, as the conspiracy theorist tries to stay one jump ahead of this annoying and awkward rational analysis.They will allege that the hijackers' passports were found at the crash scenes. "So there!" they exalt triumphantly, their fanatical faces lighting up with that deranged look of one who has just a revelation of questionable sanity.

Hmm? So they got on board with false IDs but took their real passports with them? However, by this time the fruit loop has been completely circumnavigated,and the conspiracy theorist exclaims impatiently, "Who said anything about false IDs? We know what seats they were sitting in! Their presence is well documented!" And so the whole loop starts again. "Well, why aren't they on the passenger lists?"

"You numbskull! They assumed the identities of other passengers!" And so on…"

Main point they never learned to fly a passenger jet, nor did they ever get to the point to be able to land a small aircraft, per their piloting instructor.

Also the speed the aircraft allegedly attained so close to sea level, was impossible per a spokesperson recorded on audio tape who was question. "550 mph? No, that would be a rocket"

Even if such a speed were possible, hitting the target at that speed , TWICE, by inexperienced pilots is impossible.
