DOJ pressed to investigate election problems exposed by Iranian hackers in 2020 1/4

During the 2020 election,Iranian nationals demonstrated vulnerabilities in states’ voter registration systems by hacking Alaska’s. Those vulnerabilities, particularly regarding overseas voters and their ballots, must be investigated by the Department of Justice and fixed across the U.S., election integrity groups warn.

 

While Alaska admitted to its voter registration system being breached in 2020, the federal government said it was aware of “at least one state” that had been hacked by Iranians.

 

The DOJ later said that “approximately eleven state voter websites” were attacked at the time.In the Election Research Institute’s (ERI) new report titled,"Failure of the Weaponized Department of Justice to Protect the US Election System,"it shows how there was a significant increase in the number of overseas ballot applications and ballots submitted in 2020 as Iranian hackers revealed how they could use the data from Alaska’s breached voter registration system to complete such applications and ballots.

Feds: “Foreign actors and cyber criminals”

On Sept. 28, 2020, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) announced that therewas a “potential threat posed by attempts to spread disinformation regarding cyberattacks on U.S. voter registration databases or voting systems.”

 

The agencies said that there were “foreign actors and cyber criminals” during the 2020 election cycle “spreading false and inconsistent information through various online platforms in an attempt to manipulate public opinion, discredit the electoral process, and undermine confidence in U.S. democratic institutions."

 

“These malicious actors could use these forums to also spread disinformation suggesting successful cyber operations have compromised election infrastructure and facilitated the ‘hacking’ and ‘leaking’ of U.S. voter registration data,” according to the FBI and CISA.

 

Because much of U.S. voter information can be obtained through publicly available sources, cyber actors have acquired this data in recent years, but it does “not impact the voting process or the integrity of election results,” the agencies said.

 

“In addition, the FBI and CISA have no information suggesting any cyberattack on U.S. election infrastructure has prevented an election from occurring, compromised the accuracy of voter registration information, prevented a registered voter from casting a ballot, or compromised the integrity of any ballots cast.”

 

However, a month later, the agencies announced that they were aware of an Iranian hacker attacking election websites.

 

“CISA and the FBI observed this actor attempting to exploit websites to obtain copies of voter registration data between September 29 and October 17, 2020,” the announcement said.

 

The agencies added that they could “confirm that the actor successfully obtained voter registration data in at least one state.”

 

Also, “CISA and the FBI assess this actor is responsible for the mass dissemination of voter intimidation emails to U.S. citizens and the dissemination of U.S. election-related disinformation in mid-October 2020.”

After the 2020 election, on Dec. 3, 2020, then-Alaska Lt. Gov. Kevin Meyer’s (R) office explained that his state “was the victim of data exposure by outside actors that targeted the Division of Elections Online Voter Registration System, which was built and maintained by an outside vendor and operated by the Division.

 

“Although some voters’ personal information was exposed, the Division has determined that no other elections systems or data were affected. The Division’s ballot tabulation systems, 2020 general election results, and voter database remain secure.”

 

No effect on elections, as of yet

Meyer’s office added that he first became aware of the issue on Oct. 27, which was three days before the FBI and CISA announced that a state’s voter registration data had been obtained by an Iranian hacker.

 

“Since the discovery, Division staff, working with the State Security Office, our vendors, and law enforcement, and a computer forensics firm have worked to determine the scope of the problem, secure databases and web applications, comply with state law regarding exposure of personal information records, and assist law enforcement with any investigation as needed. Working with the vendor, the division has determined that 113,000 potential voters’ personal information—such as birth dates and license numbers—was exposed,” the lieutenant governor’s office said.

 

Then, nearly a year later, on Nov. 18, 2021, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York announced charges against two Iranian hackers.

 

The charges were part of an unsealed indictment, which stated that Seyyed Mohammad Hosein Musa Kazemi, 24, and Sajjad Kashian, 27, were charged with obtaining confidential U.S. voter information from at least one state election website, sending threatening email messages to intimidate and interfere with voters, and disseminating a video containing disinformation about purported election infrastructure vulnerabilities.

 

While the state wasn’t mentioned in the indictment, Alaska was the state that had admitted to being hacked during the 2020 election season.

 

“In September and October 2020, members of the conspiracy conducted reconnaissance on, and attempted to compromise, approximately eleven state voter websites, including state voter registration websites and state voter information websites,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

 

The hackers also posed as members of a "group of Proud Boys volunteers" and then sent Facebook messages and emails to Republican senators, Republican members of Congress, individuals associated with the presidential campaign of Donald J. Trump, White House advisors, and members of the media. The bogus messages claimed that the Democratic Party was planning to exploit "serious security vulnerabilities" in state voter registration websites to "edit mail-in ballots or even register non-existent voters."

 

The ERI report notes that absentee and mail ballot requests are primarily verified by matching driver’s license numbers or Social Security numbers from ballot applications with government records.

 

Given that the hackers stole voters’ personal information, “If the [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] had submitted fraudulent applications or ballots to election officials in Alaska using the data from the breach, the Social Security or Driver’s License numbers would have been verified as correct in the matching process,” according to the report.

How the breach and data fraud worked

The video that the hackers sharedshowed “how they could use the breach data to complete Federal Write-In Absentee Ballots (FWAB) or Federal Post Card Applications (FPCA),”the report reads.

 

“The video included confirmed valid voter information that was copied and pasted into the fields used to create PDFs for at least three FWABs which can be used as emergency back-up ballots by individuals who are eligible to vote under the Uniformed Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA),” per the ERI report.

 

FPCAs are how UOCAVA voters request to vote overseas.

UOCAVA voters include military and non-military U.S. citizens who live overseas. Last year, just 26.3% of UOCAVA ballots were sent to military members, while nearly 70.7% were sent to non-military voters, including students studying abroad, U.S. citizens who have moved to permanently live overseas, and those who have never resided in the U.S., according to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s 2024 Election Administration and Voting Survey Report.

 

In the 2020 election, 39.4% of UOCAVA voters were military, compared to 60.1% non-military, per the EAC’s report.

 

The Iranian hackers’ video also showed “computer files for 40 states and a demonstration that at least some of those state folders contained multiple PDF documents of UOCAVA FWAB ballots or FPCA ballot applications. While there is no evidence that the FWABs created in the video were submitted to states, there is ample evidence that the vulnerabilities exist,” according to the ERI report.

 

According to CISA’s “Rumor Control” webpage, which no longer exists, “Changing an election using fraudulently submitted FWABs would be highly difficult to do. This is because election offices have security measures in place to detect such activity.”

 

The agency added that because few FWABs are submitted, “spikes in FWAB usage would be detected as anomalous.”“However, states reported receiving 41% more FWABs in 2020 than in 2016,” according to the ERI report, citing EAC data. “Nationally, 33,027 FWABs were submitted to election offices for the 2020 General Election. That was an increase of nearly 10,000 more FWABs submitted in 2020 when there were travel restrictions and far fewer US citizens abroad.”

 

Alaska saw the number of UOCAVA ballots increase by 60% from 2016 to 2020, with 16,466 ballots delivered online for the latter election, per the ERI report. UOCAVA ballots are submitted by email, mail, or through online systems.

 

Also, across theU.S., “Election offices reported receiving 764,691 FPCAs ahead of the 2020 general election, which was almost double the 420,861 FPCAs that states reported receiving ahead of the 2016 general election,” per the EAC’s 2020 Election Administration and Voting Survey Report.

 

Demands for FBI investigation as precautionary measure by publishing time.

 

“The 2020 election occurred during aglobal pandemic which significantly reduced the number of US citizens traveling, studying or working abroad but the significant increase in UOCAVA ballots was not investigated by the DOJ,”according to the ERI report.

Mitchell also said that the UOCAVA “system is utterly broken, it fails to serve our active duty military members, and it is clearly vulnerable to exploitation by our adversaries. Congress and the Administration must fix the problems within UOCAVA to make certain that those who wish to commit fraud in our elections are not able to use the UOCAVA system for that purpose. This report raises serious alarms that must be addressed before the 2026 election.”

 

The FBI didn’t respond to a request for comment by publishing time.

10 Agents Storm Plane to Arrest Delta Co-Pilot Moments After Landing at San Francisco Airport

 

dramatic video footage surfacing online appears to show approximately 10 federal law enforcement officers, reportedly including Homeland Security Investigations agents and air marshals, storming the cockpit of Delta Air Lines Flight 2809 moments after the Boeing 757–300 landed at San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

 

The flight had arrived from Minneapolis, completing a delayed second landing approach due to heavy fog, touching down around 9:35 p.m. local time on Saturday evening.

 

The footage — shared on the aviation blog View from the Wing — shows agents entering the cockpit, handcuffing a co‑pilot, then escorting him down the aisle and removing him from the aircraft.

‘Unprecedented’ Ukrainian drone attack kills one – governor

A Ukrainian attack on Russia’s Leningrad Region has killed one civilian and injured three others, Governor Aleksandr Drozdenko has said in a series of posts on Telegram.

He said Kiev’s forces employed over 50 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the strike.

 

The raid was launched in the early hours on Sunday, Drozdenko said. It was mostly repelled by the local air defense forces.

Some UAVs fell on residential buildings, causing fires, the governor said, adding that one man died. Three people, including a woman and two youths, also sustained light injuries.

 

The governor called the strike on Sunday “an unprecedented attack.” A total of 51 drones were shot down, he said.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that nearly 100 Ukrainian drones had been intercepted in Russian airspace overnight.

Kiev has been launching increasingly large-scale drone raids targeting various Russian regions despite renewed diplomatic contact with Moscow.

 

The latest attacks came after a new round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine held in Istanbul earlier this week.

No ceasefire was reached, but the two sides made progress on humanitarian issues, including agreements on the exchange of prisoners of war and civilians.

 

Ukraine has been conducting UAV raids deep into Russia for months, often hitting residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure.

The Russian government considers the strikes “terrorist attacks” that intentionally target civilians.

 

Last week, residential buildings in the city of Voronezh were hit in two attacks in less than three days. The strikes left nearly three dozen people injured, including three children.

On Thursday, two women were killed and more than a dozen people injured in a drone strike on the southern city of Sochi.

The UAVs targeted a sprawling resort zone that includes parts of the former Olympic Park and now serves as a popular tourist destination.

 

On Friday, a Ukrainian drone struck a passenger train in Russia’s southern Krasnodar Region.

Lithuania to boost air defense near Belarus border over drone threat

Lithuania will deploy additional air defense systems along its border with Belarus. The decision was made after a drone entered Lithuanian airspace for the second time, LRT reports.

"As of today, there is a plan to deploy additional air defense forces closer to the border because we're seeing certain trends. We more or less know the directions, we know where these corridors might pass.

This is already the second incident - we will strengthen exactly in this area," the Chief of Defense of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, General Raimundas Vaikšnoras, said.

 

Vaikšnoras also stated that there are plans to deepen coordination with the State Border Guard Service, since "without their eyes in the sky and on the ground, without what they see and hear, it's difficult to identify anything."

At the same time, the military command wants to speed up the procurement of short-range radars and other equipment that would help detect drones.

According to Vaikšnoras, the Sky Fortress acoustic drone detection system is expected to be launched along the border.

 

“This is a system of microphones that detects objects based on acoustic signals - it's the kind used by the Ukrainians. We plan to implement it along the entire border area.

This way, we'll be able to identify flying objects in advance, distinguishing between paragliders, balloons, and small aircraft.

 

It will simplify and speed up the decision-making process,” the military high-ranking official noted.

Vaikšnoras clarified that, for now, Lithuania only has equipment capable of registering objects in the air, but not identifying what exactly has entered its airspace.

 

Drone in Lithuanian airspace

On Monday, July 28, an unidentified drone entered Lithuanian airspace from the territory of Belarus. The drone was last seen near Vilnius. A search for its debris is ongoing.

Earlier, on July 10, a drone resembling a Shahed was spotted over Lithuania. It crashed on Lithuanian territory.

The rise in illegal immigration that took place by boats under the Biden administration has created unique dangers for law enforcement, according to a border security expert.

 

Maritime illegal immigration, using boats to enter the U.S. illegally, rose during the Biden administration as a result of the political and economic crises of Haiti and Cuba, according to the Migration Policy Institute. In February 2023, the U.S. Naval Institute said that illegal immigrant interdiction operations were in a "state of emergency" due to societal turmoil in Caribbean countries.

 

Along the border between the U.S. and Mexico in California, illegal immigrants attempt to cross into America using boats as well.On July 12, the U.S. Coast Guard interdicted three people who were trying to enter the U.S. illegally by boat and were apprehended at Imperial Beachin San Diego County, California. Two individuals said they wereMexican, while one said they were Turkish.

 

In January, the U.S. Coast Guard intercepted a boat carrying 21 illegal immigrants that was headed toward San Diego. Coast Guard officials and Border Protection officials apprehended the illegal immigrants, who were from various countries.

In February, the Coast Guard intercepted 132 Haitians on a boat south of the Florida Keys. The Coast Guard boarded the 30-foot vessel and processed the illegal immigrants before they were repatriated to Haiti, according to officials.

 

"The Coast Guard will continue to prioritize strengthening our domestic integrity and disrupting attempts to enter the United States illegally by sea," said Coast Guard District Seven enforcement officer Lt. Zane Carter. "We are steadfast in our mission to safeguard America by securing our maritime borders."

 

Simon Hankinson, senior research fellow in the Border Security and Immigration Center at The Heritage Foundation, told Fox News Digital thatthese interdictions create a unique danger for law enforcement authorities.

 

"Well, I've seen a very different pattern, say, between the U.K. and France versus off the U.S. coast, where it seems to be a variety of, you know, if it's professional smugglers with really fast boats trying to bring people in and drop them off, then that's one thing for the Coast Guard to cope with," Hankinson said. "And if it is people organizing themselves in leaky boats with insufficient engines and overcrowded conditions, then it's a different thing. I think for the Coast Guard, for our law enforcement, that the issue of safety is obviously paramount."

 

"They don't want anyone to drown and die trying to cross into the U.S. Illegally, even if they're not supposed to do it, but they're also probably worried about people carrying weapons who are trying to smuggle drugs and people in for money," he added.

 

Hankinson said the U.S. should look at what's happening in the United Kingdom as a case study on what to avoid. The U.K. saw 19,982 cross the English Channel to enter the country in the first six months of 2025, according to Sky News. That figure is up almost 50% compared to the first six months of 2024.

 

"You know, I was born in England. It's tragic what's happening there," he said."You have a whole family of Palestinians who were allowed to stay, even though they'd applied under a program for Ukrainians. You know it's a sort of national suicide by generosity.

Matson Suspends Electric Vehicle Shipments Over Battery Fire Concerns

 

Matson, Inc. (NYSE: MATX), a leading U.S. carrier in the Pacific, has announced the immediate suspension of transporting electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles aboard its vessels, citing growing safety concerns related to lithium-ion batteries.

 

“Due to increasing concern for the safety of transporting vehicles powered by large lithium-ion batteries, Matson is suspending acceptance of used or new electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles for transport aboard its vessels,” the company stated in a customer advisory.

 

The decision follows several high-profile maritime incidents involving lithium battery fires, including the recent sinking of the Morning Midas in the North Pacific this June. The 600-foot vessel was carrying 3,159 vehicles, including 65 fully electric vehicles and 681 partial hybrid electric vehicles when smoke was detected from a deck carrying electric vehicles.

 

Despite crew efforts to deploy emergency firefighting protocols, the intensity of the fire forced all 22 crew members to abandon ship.

 

This incident echoes the February 2022 Felicity Ace disaster, where the car carrier caught fire in the mid-Atlantic and eventually sank with nearly 4,000 vehicles on board. Speculation has focused on lithium batteries in electric vehicles as the potential cause.

 

Maritime safety experts point to thermal runaway as the primary hazard with lithium-ion batteries. This phenomenon occurs when a battery enters an uncontrollable, self-heating state that can result in the ejection of gas, shrapnel, or particulates along with extremely high temperatures.

 

“Thermal runaway also means that the battery begins producing its fuel to burn, its oxygen to support combustion, and the heat necessary to keep the fire burning,” according to Matson’s website.

 

The U.S. Coast Guard previously issued warnings about the extreme risks associated with loading damaged EVs onto commercial vessels, particularly following Hurricane Ian where saltwater exposure led to numerous EV fires.

 

In addition to containerships, Matson operates combination container/roll-on/roll-off vessels as part of their fleet, serving ports across Hawaii, the U.S. Mainland, Alaska, and Guam.

 

The company stated it “continues to support industry efforts to develop comprehensive standards and procedures to address fire risk posed by lithium-ion batteries at sea and plans to resume acceptance of them when appropriate safety solutions that meet our requirements can be implemented.”

 

As the global maritime industry confronts these emerging challenges, regulatory bodies including the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) have released new guidance for lithium battery shipping, requiring compliance with both domestic regulations and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) code.

Schieve said two people are believed to be killed and others are in critical condition. "It is an active investigation so that number could change," she said.

 

"The call came in at 7:25 and police responded by 7:29," Schieve said. Reno police "have officers in that area so they responded very quickly."

"It could have been much, much worse," Schieve said. "We don’t know yet quite how it started or who was involved.

 

"(GSR) has one of the strongest security teams in the city, they are remarkable. They are communicative and they are active on their property."

"I spoke with the governor’s office and they said they would give us anything we need," she said. "All the agencies, Sparks, Sheriff, everyone is working together.

9:50 a.m. update

Two people died Monday morning from a shooting at the Grand Sierra Resort, according to Reno council member Devon Reese.

Four people were transported to the hospital, including the suspected shooter. Reese said there were three other injuries reported.

"It's a heartbreaking day for Reno,” Reese said.

Police shot the suspect, a man, who was taken to the hospital. The resort’s northwest valet remains closed until further notice, police said.

Reno police said they received the call around 7:25 a.m. and arrived within three minutes. Officers encountered the suspect shortly after and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect’s condition was not immediately available.

 

The number of victims and severity of injuries have not been confirmed.

The incident began outside near the valet area and may have extended to other parts of the property, police said.

Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has not fully committed to canceling the August recess but he is thinking about it since the Democrats are obstructing Trump’s agenda.

 

Last Monday, Thune told reporters that he’s thinking about canceling the August recess.

 

“We’re thinking about it. We want to get as many nominees through the pipeline as we can,” Thune said.

 

“we’re going to be looking at all the options in the next weeks to try and get as many of those across the finish line as we can,” he said.

 

“This is the first president in history who has never had, at this point in his presidency, a civilian nominee approved either by unanimous consent or voice vote in the Senate,” Thune said last Thursday during an interview on the “Brian Kilmeade Show” on Fox News Radio, Fox reported.

Renewed drone attacks on Kurdistan region of Iraq

Early on Monday morning a drone attack occurred in the Khabat district in the province of Erbil in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The drone attacks began on June 24, when the Israel-Iran conflict ended, targeting radars in central Iraq, and have increased since then, spreading to northern Iraq in early July. Most drone attacks since July 1 have targeted energy sites, such as oil fields.

The latest attack likely targeted an oil refinery. Rudaw media in Iraq said that “The Khabat district is the site of the Kawergosk oil refinery, one of the largest in the Kurdistan Region, operated by the Iraqi-Kurdish oil company KAR Group.”

 

The US and UK have warned Iraq about the need to find the culprits behind the attacks. Iraq has pretended that it is looking for them, but the country’s leadership does not seem serious.

Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani did, however, recently welcome the new US commander of the anti-ISIS coalition. It was believed that Sudani might decide to rein in the drone attacks.

The Kurdistan Regional Government has accused the Iranian-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) of being behind the attacks.

The attacks had occurred almost every day between July 1 and 15 and then appeared to decline, but the attack on July 28 shows that the threat has returned.

 

Iraq is not listening to the US, and the Iranians are provoking trouble, it would seem.

Rudaw media in Erbil said that “an explosive-laden drone crashed in Erbil’s western Khabat district on Monday morning, resulting in no casualties, Kurdish counterterrorism forces reported.”

The report noted that “on Monday morning at 5.50 a.m. an explosive-laden drone crashed in the Rizgari subdistrict of Khabat district in Erbil province,” the Directorate General of Counter Terrorism (CTD), also known as Kurdistan CT, said.

 

There have been 20 rocket and drone attacks in the last month, the report noted.

“The drone strikes have greatly reduced the Kurdistan Region’s oil output, especially at a time when Kurdish oil exports through the Iraq-Turkey pipeline – halted since March 2023 – are on the brink of resumption,” Rudaw noted.

 

Armed attack at an Iraqi agriculture ministry office

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, an Iraqi officer was wounded during an armed attack at an Iraqi agriculture ministry office in Baghdad.

“More than a dozen suspects linked to the Iran-aligned Popular Mobilization Forces have been arrested in connection with the attack,” Rudaw noted.

It appears the PMF is completely out of control and trying to send a message to Baghdad. Security forces were able to arrest 14 suspects from the PMF’s brigades 45 and 46, an Iraqi official said.

 

“Brigades 45 and 46 are affiliated with the Kata’ib Hezbollah – a powerful Iranian-backed Iraqi armed group designated by the United States as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).

“Washington holds Kata’ib Hezbollah, a key player in the Iran-led ‘Axis of Resistance,’ responsible for numerous attacks on US assets in the region since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict in October 2023,” Rudaw noted.

Kata’ib Hezbollah kidnapped Princeton researcher Elizabeth Tsurkov in Baghdad in March 2023. She continues to be held by the group. The US has sought to have her freed but has not succeeded.

 

The group also killed three Americans in Jordan in a drone attack in January 2024.

In January 2020, US President Donald Trump ordered a drone attack that killed IRGC Quds Force head Qasem Soleimani and the head of Kata’ib Hezbollah, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, in Baghdad.

 

“This is not the first time Kata’ib Hezbollah has been linked to clashes with Iraqi state forces.

Previous incidents include a firefight with federal police in Baghdad in May 2023 and a confrontation with the Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service at Camp Speicher in March 2023,” Rudaw noted.

Night drone attack on Kyiv: City administration confirms eight injured, including child

In Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, a Russian drone strike injured eight people, including a three-year-old child.

The attack targeted a 25-storey residential building and its surrounding area, causing significant damage.

 

According to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, the blast shattered windows and damaged balcony glazing from the 3rd to the 11th floor.

Vehicles parked nearby and the building’s courtyard also sustained damage.

Witness heard aircraft circling at low altitude before fatal crash claimed lives of three Monterey County residents By Stephen Sorace Fox News Published July 28, 2025 8:09am EDT

 

Three people aboard a small airplane were killed over the weekend when the aircraft crashed in the Pacific Ocean off the central California coast, authorities said.

 

Emergency crews responded just before 11 p.m. Saturday to reports of a twin-engine Beechcraft carrying three people that went downabout 300 yards off Point Pinosin Monterey County, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) said.

 

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Unit identified the occupants as Steve Eugene Clatterbuck, 60, of Salinas, James Vincent, 36, of Monterey, and Jamie Lee Tabscott, 44, of Monterey.

 

The Beechcraft B-95-B55 aircraft had taken off from the San Carlos airport at 10:11 p.m. and was last seen at 10:36 p.m. near Monterey, according to flight tracking data from FlightAware.com.

 

==A witness told AIO Filmz that he heard the plane circling at a low altitude for about 30 seconds before hearing a "thump." Video footage from the scene shows debris from the aircraft scattered along the shoreline.

 

Coast Guard boat and helicopter crews, local law enforcement and fire agencies launched a search for the victims. The operation lasted for a combined 13 hours, covering 346 miles of trackline over an area of approximately 100 square miles, USCG said.

 

A fire boat crew recovered the first body just after 3 a.m. Sunday.Divers found the two other victims inside the fuselage of the aircraft between 6:30 a.m. and 9:10 a.m. (is that normal to be in the fuselage?)

 

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.

 

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said the victims’ families have asked for privacy during this time.

 

"The family and friends of the deceased have expressed that they wish to extend their gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community," the sheriff’s office said.

Ukrainian air defense downs 309 drones and two cruise missiles

On the night of July 28, Ukrainian air defense forces neutralized 309 out of 324 Russian Shahed-type drones and intercepted two Kh-101 cruise missiles.

That is according to the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as reported by Ukrinform.

 

The attack, which began at 19:30 on July 27 and continued into the early hours of July 28, involved a total of 331 aerial threats, including:

 

324 Shahed-type strike UAVs and various decoy drones launched from Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, Millerovo, Shatalovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia);

4 Kh-101 cruise missiles launched from the Saratov region (Russia);

3 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles launched from the Lipetsk region (Russia).

The primary target of the attack was Starokostiantyniv in the Khmelnytskyi region.

 

The Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled the attack using a combination of aviation, anti-aircraft missile systems, EW units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups.

As of 09:30, preliminary reports indicate that Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted or jammed a total of 311 enemy aerial threats—comprising 309 strike UAVs and two Kh-101 cruise missiles.

In three separate locations, two additional missiles of various types and 15 attack UAVs were recorded. Debris from downed aircraft was observed across several areas.

 

“The Kh-47M2 aeroballistic missiles failed to reach their intended targets,” the Air Force emphasized.

As reported by Ukrinform, on the night of July 28, Russian forces launched another combined attack on Ukraine, deploying various missiles and attack drones.

Anchorage Police Department expanding drone program

The Anchorage Police Department (APD) is taking flight with an expansion of its drone initiative.

According to APD, the program is part of its commitment to “innovative, tech-driven policing.”

 

There are 11 officers who are certified drone pilots within the department and they are now are equipped with both indoor and outdoor drones, APD wrote online.

APD said using the drones will help officers on the ground get critical information from a safer distance.

 

“This incident is a good example of how technology is helping transform public safety. We were able to resolve the incident safely and that’s always the goal,” APD Chief Sean Case said in the press release.

The program is a project that Case has been working on since taking office, according to Chris Barraza, APD Public Information Officer.

The owner of a Florida telecommunications company will spend the next five years in prison and his firm must pay a hefty fine regarding an “Obama phone” scam.

 

Q Link Wireless LLC and its owner, identified as CEO Issa Asad, previously pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit wire fraud and steal federal funds from the Lifeline program that began in the 1980s, Fox News reported Sunday.

 

The program offers subsidized cellphone services to lower-income people. In 2012, a video emerged of a protester outside a Mitt Romney event who claimed her neighbors received an “Obama phone,” Breitbart News reported at the time.

 

When asked why she supported Obama, the woman said, “Everybody in Cleveland low minority got Obama Phone. Keep Obama in President, you know? He gave us a phone, he’s going to do more.”

 

The clip shows the woman standing with other protesters on the side of a roadway while holding signs. The Breitbart News article speculated that she may or may not have been a paid agitator:

In 2013, Breitbart News reported that opposition to the “Lifeline” program was growing as Tracfone Wireless, “the company that most benefits from the government subsidy, is now advertising on inside-the-beltway news websites in an effort to save it.”

 

The Fox article said Asad was sentenced to prison and he, along with his company, must pay $128 million in fines.

 

In a press release on Friday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida shared more details of the case:

 

Meanwhile, Asad defrauded another federal government program, the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), by making false statements about Q Link’s business. Congress created the PPP during the Covid-19 pandemic to authorize forgivable loans to small businesses for job retention and certain other expenses. Asad, in Q Link’s name, executed a fraudulent scheme to obtain, and keep, PPP proceeds. To further the scheme, Asad made false statements about Q Link’s business, including a false claim that Q Link’s Lifeline reimbursements substantially decreased because of the pandemic. Asad then, in 2021, engaged in an unlawful financial transaction involving approximately $389,000 of those proceeds. Asad spent PPP loan proceeds on a Land Rover payment, his personal Amex card, jewelry, and personal property taxes.

 

Asad was reportedly charged with murder several years ago in connection with driving over a groundskeeper at his business, per the Fox article.

 

“He later pleaded no contest to misdemeanor culpable negligence and was slapped with one year of probation and ordered to pay a $225 fine,” the outlet said.

Delta Passengers Stunned As Pilot Hauled Off Plane On Child Porn Charges

 

Passengers aboard a Delta Airlines flight had quite a jaw-dropping conclusion to their journey on Saturday night, as federal agents boarded their plane upon landing, handcuffed the co-pilot and marched him off the jet – with Fox News reporting that he faces charges of possessing child sexual abuse material. Just after Delta Flight 2809 from Minneapolis reached its SFO gate at 9:35 pm, the captain turned off the seat belt sign and passengers began to gather their belongings. That's when the drama unfolded.

 

“A group of people with badges, guns, and different agency vests/markings were pushing their way up through the aisle to the cockpit,” passenger Sarah Christianson told the San Francisco Chronicle, noting that she'd counted at least 10 law enforcement officers who “stormed the cockpit, cuffed the co-pilot, arrested him, walked him down the aisle, and ushered him off the plane through the cabin doors located between first and coach…[it was] shocking and unnerving."

Operation Grayskull Eradicated Four Dark Web Child Abuse Sites and Led to the Convictions of 18 Offenders to Date, Who Have Collectively Received More than 300 Years in Prison

Today, the Justice Department announced the results of Operation Grayskull, a highly successful joint effort between the Department of Justice and the FBI that resulted in the dismantling of four dark web sites dedicated to images and videos containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM). To date, the operation has led to the convictions of 18 offenders, including a Minnesota man who was sentenced yesterday to 250 months in prison and lifetime supervised release for his involvement with one of these dark web sites. He was also ordered to pay $23,000 in restitution.

 

“Today’s announcement sends a clear warning to those who exploit and abuse children: you will not find safe haven, even on the dark web,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “These offenders thought that they could act without consequences, but they were wrong. Thanks to the relentless determination of our prosecutors and law enforcement partners we have exposed these perpetrators for who they are, eliminated their websites and brought justice to countless victims.”

 

“This operation represents one of the most significant strikes ever made against online child exploitation networks,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “We’ve not only dismantled dangerous platforms on the dark web, but we’ve also brought key perpetrators to justice and delivered a powerful message: you cannot hide behind anonymity to harm children.”

A hybrid drone that swims like a fish and flies like a falcon?

That’s not sci-fi – that’s the work of some extremely talented college students.

 

A group of Danish undergrads just built a hybrid drone that flips between the sky and the water without skipping a beat.

It might be the most fun-looking rescue tool no one’s using yet.

 

The smoothest air-to-sea transition we’ve ever seen

This isn’t the first hybrid drone, but it might be the slickest.

 

The real magic is in the variable pitch propellers, which literally change angle depending on where the drone is: air or water.

High pitch in the sky for more lift, low pitch underwater for less drag.

 

And the test footage of the drone that swims says it all.

The drone lifts off beside a pool, nose-dives into the water, swims below the surface, then erupts straight back into the air.

No edits, no CGI. Just engineering that works. And it’s all student-built.

 

The team at Aalborg University modeled the whole craft, 3D-printed the frame, engineered the propeller mechanism, and programmed it with custom code.

And every bit of it was designed to prove a simple idea: that one drone can thrive in both air and water, no overcomplicated gimmicks required.

 

And while hybrid drones have existed before – Rutgers made one back in 2015, and a Chinese team showed off a similar move in 2023 – none of them moved quite like this.

No bulky wing retractions or awkward transitions. Just one seamless bounce between two worlds.

 

So where do you send a drone that swims?

This thing may have started as a thesis project, but the potential use cases are very real: military recon, search and rescue, marine biology, and infrastructure inspection.

Basically anywhere you want a scout that can fly in, dive under, and fly back out again without needing a rescue mission of its own.

 

Even better – it was made with relatively low-cost tools and widely available tech, opening it to the possibility of fast scalability.

No word yet on whether this turns into a commercial product, but honestly, it doesn’t need to. The prototype already proves more than any lab pitch or glossy demo reel ever could.

It swims. It flies. It just works. And what these students pulled off? It’s more than impressive – it’s a legit breakthrough that deserves real attention.

Hundreds of documents show how researchers failed to notify officials in California about a test of technology to block the sun’s rays — while they planned a much huger sequel. 

 

A team of researchers in California drew notoriety last year with an aborted experiment on a retired aircraft carrier that sought to test a machine for creating clouds.  

 

But behind the scenes, they were planning a much larger and potentially riskier study of salt-water-spraying equipment that could eventually be used to dim the sun’s rays — a multimillion-dollar project aimed at producing clouds over a stretch of ocean larger than Puerto Rico.

 

The details outlined in funding requests, emails, texts and other records obtained by POLITICO’s E&E News raise new questions about a secretive billionaire-backed initiative that oversaw last year’s brief solar geoengineering experiment on the San Francisco Bay.

 

They also offer a rare glimpse into the vast scope of research aimed at finding ways to counter the Earth’s warming, work that has often occurred outside public view. Such research is drawing increased interest at a time when efforts to address the root cause of climate change — burning fossil fuels — are facing setbacks in the U.S. and Europe. But the notion of human tinkering with the weather and climate has drawn a political backlash and generated conspiracy theories, adding to the challenges of mounting even small-scale tests.

 

Last year’s experiment, led by the University of Washington and intended to run for months, lasted about 20 minutes before being shut down by Alameda city officials who objected that nobody had told them about it beforehand.

 

That initial test was only meant to be a prequel. Even before it began, the researchers were talking with donors and consultants about conducting a 3,900-square-mile cloud-creation test off the west coasts of North America, Chile or south-central Africa, according to more than 400 internal documents obtained by E&E News through an open records request to the University of Washington.

David Schoen, a former lawyer for Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, said Attorney General Pam Bondi and other officials “jumped the gun a bit”in overhyping the Epstein files.

 

Schoen in an interview with BBC “Newsnight”Thursday said there is no Epstein “client list” that would highlight connections between the disgraced financier and wealthy individuals.

 

“If someone were to think that there’s actually a list— which Jeffrey Epstein wrote down the name of, you fill in the name of the famous, wealthy person with some young girl —that just doesn’t exist,” he said.

 

He also suggested that Bondi and other officials created a hyped environment about what might be included in the files that couldn’t be matched by what was released.

 

Schoen was careful to not blame President Trump for overhyping the files. He said he thought Trump had called on the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI to release anything big they found and that the others jumped the gun in how they described what was coming.

 

“I think what happened is, President Trump said he’s open to the idea, and it should be disclosed if there’s any such file that hasn’t been disclosed so far.

 

But he didn’t know what was in it,” Schoen said.

 

“I think that maybe some of the others, the attorney general, director of the FBI, and so on, jumped the gun a bit.They were in favor, for good reasons, of disclosing and full transparency, but they didn’t know what they had yet,” he said.

 

“When they saw what they had, there was no ‘smoking gun’ and therefore they said there was nothing to release of any substance. And now you see this catch-up,” Schoen said.

 

The controversy over the Epstein files has continued for weeks, causing problems for Trump and Republicans in Congress. Democrats have sought to further divide the GOP over the issue by offering amendments in committee to release more federal information on Epstein.

 

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche on Friday was set to meet with Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is imprisoned on sex trafficking charges.

Trump said Friday he hadn’t thought about pardoning Maxwell.

 

Republicans in Congress have been divided over how to handle the issue.

 

Some have called for the release of all files on Epstein held by the DOJ, while others have wanted to put guardrails on disclosures.

 

Schoen is far from the first person to argue the files were overhyped.

 

Karl Rove, republican strategist, said Thursday, “There’s hell to pay when those who hyped the conspiracy have closed the books on the case.”

 

Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino as a conservative pundit outside the administration was among those pressing the idea there were files that showed the government could be protecting wealthy associates of Epstein.

 

Epstein’s acquaintances include a number of luminaries — including Trump and former President Clinton — which has sparked conspiracy theories for years. Schoen previously made statements that no client list existed and that Trump was not involved in the Epstein case.

 

He stated June 16 on NewsNationthat Bondi and Trump were not hiding a client list.

 

On June 5, Schoen posted on social platform X, “I was hired to lead Jeffrey Epstein’s defense as his criminal lawyer 9 days before he died. He sought my advice for months before that.I can say authoritatively, unequivocally, and definitively that he had no information to hurt President Trump. I specifically asked him!”

Amid a haze of smoke and the whir of a warp drive, this arts festival finale delivered strange a spectacular experience as enigmatic alien figures emerged to respond to their new environment.

Youngsters ran around screaming with excitement as the aliens mingled with the crowd as ET met Close Encounters.

 

As with many of the festival’s performances, StarSaucer was a free to attend event thanks to funding and support from Arts Council England, Warrington Borough Council and Warrington BID.

Minnesota man shot and killed neighbor he believed to be an alien, charges say

Charges say a southern Minnesota man last week shot and killed his older neighbor, whom he believed to be an alien.

The 38-year-old man from Windom, Minnesota, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder, according to a criminal complaint filed in Cottonwood County on Friday.

The Windom Police Department says they were called to the 1400 block of 12th Avenue at approximately 5:19 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a shooting.

 

Officers found the victim, a 70-year-old woman, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was able to speak to an officer, telling them she believed she was shot but did not see a firearm.

She added that the suspect had called her, saying he needed help, and that she had gone to his house about 45 minutes earlier.

The woman was transported to the Windom Hospital, where she later died. An autopsy found she had been shot seven times.

She died due to blood loss from the gunshot wounds, according to the provisional report.

 

A witness told investigators the suspect had woken him up to sit on the couch when he began talking about aliens, allegedly stating he thought his neighbor, the victim, was an alien, and that an alien ship was coming to take them, according to the complaint.

The witness recalled seeing the victim, hearing gunshots and seeing flashes, then the victim leaving. Charges say the witness was scared and ran to their neighbor's house, where they found her on the floor. That's when they called 911.

While police were responding to the shooting, the complaint says dispatch informed officers around 5:30 a.m. that a woman called saying a man had broken into her nearby home on the 1200 block of River Road.

 

Upon arriving at the residence, police reported seeing a significant amount of broken glass and blood within the entrance, and hearing the sound of moaning and running water coming from the bathroom area.

Inside the bathroom, charges say officers found the suspect in the bathtub. Police removed him and placed him in handcuffs, noting the water in the tub was blood-stained.

The suspect was transported to the hospital for treatment before going to jail. His first court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 8.

Testimonies of the victims

The testimonies of the ritual abuse victims mentioned the government’s lack of action in investigating and preventing the abuse of minors from taking place.

One of the survivors of ritual abuse, under the pseudonym “S,” described the abuse she endured at the age of five.

 

“I was a small child, five years old, and suffered four years of unbearable abuse,” she began.

 

“Other children were present – I hear their screams in my head. They said I was born broken and needed fixing, or the world would suffer. They tied me in every possible way, used whips and electric shockers, and raped in bizarre ways,” she continued.

 

Another survivor, under the pseudonym “A,” described the abuse she endured between the ages of four and 20.

 

At the age of 15, she said that she “was tied to a torture bed in Tel Aviv basements. They held a snake, inserted it into me, and I saw it covered in blood.”

 

“They slaughtered it into a vessel, mixed its blood with mine, and drank it. They said I was now a sacred gate. I believe one of my parents was involved. They picked me up from school. In my case, the police were empathetic, but the prosecutor closed the case, saying that it wasted too much time,” she explained.

“The Education Ministry could have helped. In seventh grade, they realized something was wrong,” she said.

 

An additional testimony by victim Yael Ariel described how she was forced to harm other victims.

The provisions contained in the bill prohibit abortion providers from receiving Medicaid funding for up to one year for any other reproductive health services they may provide.

 

The Department of Justice argued that "the bill stops federal subsidies for Big Abortion" and urged the judge not to let Planned Parenthood and its members "supplant duly enacted legislation with their own policy preferences."

 

Talwani ruled that the law's text and structure were clearly crafted for all members of the parent organization Planned Parenthood Federation of America, even if they were not named. Because of the specificity, it likely makes the provision an unconstitutional "bill of attainder," an act of Congress that wrongly seeks to inflict punishment without a trial, according to the judge.

 

"Plaintiffs are likely to establish that Congress singled them out with punitive intent," Talwani wrote.

 

She added that the provision violated the U.S. Constitution's Fifth Amendment equal protection rights for Planned Parenthood, and burdened some of its members who do not provide abortions to associate with their parent organization in a likely violation of the First Amendment.

 

"We will keep fighting this cruel law so that everyone can get birth control, STI testing and treatment, cancer screenings, and other critical health care, no matter their insurance," Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Alexis McGill Johnson said in a statement.

To explore how the spike proteins behave inside cells after mRNA vaccines are administered, the researchers transfected human cardiomyocytes (heart muscle cells) along with other human cell lines (HEK-293 and HeLa cells) with Pfizer/BioNTech’s BNT162b2 and Moderna’s mRNA-1273.

 

Their aim was to track the spike protein expression, how the proteins were processed by the cells, and the subsequent formation of protein subunits.

 

The team looked specifically at how the spike protein monomers were cleaved by an enzyme called furin into subunits, and then how these subunits interacted within the cells.

 

Both Pfizer and Moderna’s mRNA “vaccines” prompted cells to produce two versions of the spike protein monomer, small protein units that initiate an immune response.

 

The study found that the enzyme furin efficiently cleaved these monomers into S1 subunits, the part of the spike protein known to trigger immunity.

 

However, there were inconsistencies with the formation of S2 subunits, another crucial component of the spike, which varied depending on the type of cell and the specific “vaccine” used.

 

The study then observed that within hours of receiving the injection, the spike proteins started clumping together into large, sticky aggregates inside the cells.

 

These aggregates were not random but followed specific patterns depending on the cell type.

 

This was troubling, but the findings were particularly concerning in the case of human heart cells, or cardiomyocytes.

ADL-Backed Bipartisan Bill Threatens to Censor Israel Criticism on Social Media

 

Free speech advocates are raising concerns that a new bipartisan bill would force social media companies to censor criticism of Israel on their platforms.

 

Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) and Don Bacon (R-Neb.) rolled out the bill, called the Stopping Terrorists Online Presence and Holding Accountable Tech Entities (STOP HATE) Act, at a press conference Wednesday, alongside Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

 

The bill would mandate that social media companies work with the federal government to implement moderation policies that curb the speech of groups the government designates as “terrorists.” They’d be required to provide regular reports to the U.S. attorney general. Those that don’t comply would be fined $5 million each day they refuse.

 

The lawmakers justified the measure by citing some recent examples of overt antisemitism and calls for violence on social media.

 

“We’ve seen an explosion of disinformation and antisemitic hate online in America and around the world,” Gottheimer said. “After the shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum, anti-Zionist extremists used social media to call for further violence, posting messages like ‘may all Zionists burn.’ Even AI platforms like Grok have posted deeply disturbing content, praising Adolf Hitler and Nazism.”

 

Bacon said, “We want to be in a country that makes clear that antisemitism or any kind of racism is repugnant, unacceptable, not allowed in an online space, and that we have zero tolerance for it.”

 

However, other statements from the lawmakers make clear that their definition of “antisemitism” goes far beyond expressions of hatred or calls for violence against Jewish people.

 

As Matthew Petti wrote for the libertarian magazine Reason: “The specific idea that Bacon had in mind was antisemitism, and he made clear that it includes criticism of the State of Israel in his book.”

 

At the press conference, Bacon explicitly referenced recent protests against Israel’s policy of starvation in Gaza.

 

“I saw protests out here the last two days, they were vile, right?,” he said. “They were…you can see the antisemitism in their comments and how they were treating some of our members of Congress who are Jewish. I saw that firsthand.”

 

Bacon did not specify what specific comments he was referring to. However, Petti noted:

 

Protesters stormed the congressional cafeteria on July 1 to call for food aid to Gaza, and interrupted Rep. Randy Fine (R–Fla.)—who has called for Palestinians to “starve away”—during a hearing on campus antisemitism last week.

A new ‘dossier’ reveals extensive pro-Israel bias among reporters, editors and executives at the ‘NYTimes’

 

New York Times reporters are supposed to follow a strict code of ethics to avoid even the appearance of bias. A new report shows how the paper ignores this when it comes to covering Palestine.

 

Normally, New York Times journalists work under a strict code of behavior meant to reduce the appearance of bias in their reports. They are not, for instance, allowed to attend political rallies or demonstrations in their personal capacity. One Times reporter told me years ago that she couldn’t go to a pro-abortion rights march, even though she didn’t cover the issue. These restrictions extend into the Internet Age. Times journalists on social media are supposed to be guarded in their opinions, and they can be cautioned if they overstep.

 

But the Times’s struggle against even the appearance of bias vanishes when the subject is Israel and the Palestinians. The organization called Writers Against the War on Gaza recently released a “dossier” which listed “high-ranking editors, journalists and executive officers at the Times” who the group alleges have “material and ideological ties to occupation and apartheid.”

 

Most obvious are Times reporters who have personal or family connections to Israel’s military. The dossier cites Natan Odenheimer, who actually served in the army’s “Maglan” special forces commando unit for almost 4 years. Interestingly, Odenheimer’s own summary of his experience on the Times website completely leaves out this portion of his biography. He tells us: “I’ve reported on Israelis and Palestinians for over a decade, and my work has also taken me to Jordan, Egypt, Iraq and other locations.” But somehow his military experience didn’t make the cut.

 

Reporter Isabel Kershner’s two sons served in Israel’s military. And in the past, Ethan Bronner’s son was also a soldier. The dossier notes that Bill Keller, then the Times’s executive editor, actually defended that connection, arguing that Bronner’s reporting benefited, because his son’s service “suppl[ied] a measure of sophistication about Israel and its adversaries that someone with no connections would lack.” (For the record, this site has over the years been on top of this story. There is also the case of Karimi v Deutsche Bank AG et al, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 22-02854. which resulted in a $26.25 million settlement with US shareholders. However this was not soley Epstein but “lax oversight while doing business with risky, ultra-rich clients like Jeffrey Epstein and Russian oligarchs.” One of those would be Roman Abramovich, who was a friend of Ghislaine Maxwell.

Since the beginning of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, one of the main questions raised by analysts has been the risk of weapons sent by the West to the Kiev regime spreading among criminal and terrorist organizations around the world. This has already happened many times, considering that there are reports of such weapons being found in several countries, mainly in the African Sahel. However, recent news suggests the situation may be even more serious: Ukrainian weapons have already reached Brazilian cities.

 

On July 17, the Brazilian Military Police carried out an operation in the Acari neighborhood, a suburb in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro state. The operation targeted an illegal copper deposit, a common occurrence in Rio de Janeiro’s “favelas” (low-income communities often dominated by organized crime). However, officers also found some weapons used by local drug traffickers there, including a foreign-made anti-drone device.

 

Initially, the news was reported as a common police seizure. However, footage shared by the officers revealed that the captured anti-drone weapon was identified with the “tryzub”—the coat of arms of Ukraine. After posts on social media questioning about this issue, the military police intelligence department confirmed that the anti-drone interceptor was indeed from Ukraine—the first reported case of Ukrainian weapons found in Brazil since the beginning of the conflict.

 

There is still no information on whether the interceptor found in Rio is Ukrainian-made or a Western weapon sent by NATO in military aid packages to the Kiev regime. Despite the presence of the Ukrainian symbol, the weapon’s identification was written in English, suggesting it is Western-made equipment. President Donald Trump and his White House are influencing GOP congressional candidates and advising who to run and who to stand down as Republicans try to keep control of both chambers of Congress in midterm elections next year.

 

The White House is strategizing to make sure Republicans win enough seats and is putting together “a 2027 policy agenda” so Trump, who plans to join candidates on the campaign trail, can explain what continued GOP control of the House, Senate and the White House could look like, a White House official told Politico.

 

This strategy includes telling which Republican candidates to run for office and which to “stay put,” the official said.

 

For example, Iowa Republican Rep. Zach Nunn was weighing a gubernatorial run when the president told him to “stay put,” the outlet reported. Nunn this month announced he was running for re-election.

 

“After prayerful consideration with his family and the strong support from President Trump, Zach is more committed than ever to maintaining the Republican majority and advancing the America First Agenda,” the congressman’s campaign spokesperson said. The president has also publicly endorsed Nunn.

 

The president also advised Michigan GOP Rep. Bill Huizenga to avoid running for Senate. Trump instead publicly backed Senator Mike Rogers this week, saying he “has my Complete and Total Endorsement — HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!”

Trump has acknowledged the power he has to influence voters. He recently suggested holding rallies for candidates, two White House officials told the outlet.

 

The president reportedly told one of the officials last week: “We’re going to have to campaign in the states and really get out there a lot, huh? Because really, it’s just me that can pull them out in a lot of places.”

A Delta Airlines transatlantic flight bound for New York City was canceled when the pilot was arrested after she failed a breathalyzer test, police have told the Swedish media.

 

The pilot was charged with suspicion of drunkenness and taken into custody at Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport around 9:00 am local time Tuesday, according to police spokesperson Nadya Norton, to Swedish daily newspaper Aftonbladet. The newspaper reported that the pilot is from the U.S.

 

In a statement to The Independent, a spokesperson for Delta said that there was “no pilot intoxication” and that she has been released from custody.“We continue to work with authorities to review what occurred,” the statement added.

 

The nearly nine-hour Delta Air Lines flight 205 was due to arrive in the U.S. at around 1 p.m. Eastern time. According to Aftonbladet, the suspect is a pilot from the U.S.

 

The woman has been detained and is in custody pending a prosecutor's review, according to ABC New York. A prosecutor now has 72 hours to decide whether to charge or release her.

 

Under Swedish law, the pilot could face a fine or up to six months in jail for a "normal violation." If the blood alcohol level is significantly high, the penalty can go up to two years in prison. Police informed ABC News that, in this incident, it did not appear to be the case.

 

In a statement, Delta Air Lines said it will fully cooperate with authorities, "as nothing is more important than the safety and security of our customers and people. We apologize to our customers for the disruption to their travel, and teams are working to get them to their destinations as soon as possible."

 

The passengers on the morning flight were entitled to receive $705 in cash compensation because of the incident, according to aviation site View From The Wing.The compensation, which covers all passengers who were on board the 226-seat Boeing 767-332 aircraft, will cost Delta approximately $160,000, thanks to European Union rule 261, which covers lengthy delays and inconvenience.

 

Costs associated with temporary lodging, meals, and any possible disruption to follow-on flights are not included in the payout, VFTW reports.

 

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency mandates random alcohol testing for flight and cabin crew operating out of EU member states, as per Regulation 2018/1042.

 

However, this incident is reportedly not the first case of alleged intoxication to occur, as two Delta flight attendants working on Delta’s flight 49 from Amsterdam to New York JFK were also arrested for failing a breathalyzer in November 2024.

 

The Independent contacted Delta Airlines and Swedavia for comment.

Trump’s Justice Department Takes Down Dark Web Child Abuse Network — 120,000 Users, Millions of Files in Operation Grayskull

In one of the most aggressive and successful anti-child exploitation crackdowns in U.S. history, President Trump’s Justice Department has revealed the results of Operation Grayskull, a sweeping, international strike that dismantled four high-traffic dark web platforms trafficking violent child sexual abuse materials, exposing a digital cesspool that included over 120,000 registered users and millions of illicit files.

 

To date, 18 individuals have been convicted in federal court, receiving a combined 300+ years in prison.

 

The Justice Department detailed how Thomas Peter Katsampes, 52, of Minnesota, became a staff member on one of these despicable sites, personally distributing CSAM, guiding others on how to do so, and helping manage operations. He was sentenced to over 20 years in prison, lifetime supervision, and forced to pay restitution to his victims.

 

But he was only one of many.

 

Among the 18 convicted predators:

William Michael Spearman of Alabama was sentenced to life in prison for his role in a child exploitation enterprise.

Joseph Addison Martin of Washington got 42 years.

Keith David McIntosh of Michigan was sentenced to a staggering 55 years, with a prior conviction on record.

Selwyn David Rosenstein of Florida was handed 28 years and a six-figure restitution order for his crimes.

 

Each of these individuals was found guilty of actively operating or contributing to some of the darkest, most vile content imaginable, and doing so in a highly coordinated and secretive online network.

 

“Today’s announcement sends a clear warning to those who exploit and abuse children: you will not find safe haven, even on the dark web,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.

 

“These offenders thought that they could act without consequences, but they were wrong. Thanks to the relentless determination of our prosecutors and law enforcement partners we have exposed these perpetrators for who they are, eliminated their websites and brought justice to countless victims.”

 

“This operation represents one of the most significant strikes ever made against online child exploitation networks,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “We’ve not only dismantled dangerous platforms on the dark web, but we’ve also brought key perpetrators to justice and delivered a powerful message: you cannot hide behind anonymity to harm children.”

 

“Yesterday’s sentencing reaffirms our steadfast commitment to protecting our children, the most vulnerable among us, from those who exploit and harm them through the despicable trade in child sexual abuse material,” said U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne for the Southern District of Florida.

 

“Thomas Peter Katsampes and his co-conspirators ran some of the darkweb’s most heinous networks, enabling horrific crimes against innocent victims, but Operation Grayskull has shut these sites down and delivered justice. We applaud the FBI and our international partners for their tireless work, and let this be a clear warning: we will relentlessly pursue and prosecute anyone engaged in such atrocities, no matter how they attempt to cover their tracks.”

 

The operation also led to arrests in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Estonia, Belgium, and South Africa.

Donald Trump's new armour-plated buggy has been on display at Royal Turnberry as the president enjoys a round of golf during his trip to Scotland.It is the latest addition to his security detail, just ten months after he survived the world-famous assassination attempt while at a rally in Pennsylvania.

 

The Secret Service appeared to be taking every precaution on the outing asthere were also a stream of army trucks, road checkpoints, and snipers positioned in a ring of steel to protect the president's life. But the most noteworthy security feature on the rural Turnberry coursewas an additional security measure in the form of a black-clad, reinforced golf cart.

 

Although the president opted to drive a standard-looking white buggy around the course, a distinctly bulkier off-road vehicle trailed him closely throughout.Security experts believe the cart bore all the 'tell-tale signs' of being a heavily armoured protection vehicle.It bore similarities to 'The Beast' – the official US presidential car that accompanies the president on most journeys.

 

The machine has been famous for decades and is believed to bulletproof and heavily armoured, featuring Bond-style gadgets, including smoke screens and electrified door handles.

 

The black-clad reinforced golf cart has been noticed for the following reasons: 1. The black band around the windscreen indicates the vehicle is armoured. 2. Indentation around the windows is another telltale sign of armouring, suggesting more panels have been added for protection. 3. Windows are tinted as they have been strengthened with layers of laminate, known as 'transparent armour'. 4. An armoured panel appears to have been added to the rear, potentially made from hardened steel plating

 

Experts told The Telegraph that the biggest giveaway the buggy was armoured was the black band wrapping around it. One expert, who wished to remain anonymous, said: 'From those photos, that is 100 per cent armoured,' he said. 'The windscreen is a giveaway, as are the side panels, doors, and the large panel at the rear above the load tray.'

 

He identified its model as a Polaris Ranger XPand revealed Trump's cart would be designed to offer passengers as much protection as possible, while remaining light enough to not damage the course. But it is thought that the front of the buggy, alongside its wheels and tyres, are not significantly adapted from the off-the-shelf model.

 

The Polaris Ranger XP retails to normal customers for around £20,000, but it is though Trump's heavily-modified version will have cost far more. This is because it's 'not a tank' and is an 'defensive, not offensive' armoured vehicle, according to experts. It is thought the vehicle was accompanying Trump to allow him a safe getaway if he was fired upon while out on the exposed golf course.

 

A US Secret Service spokesman said:'The US Secret Service employs a variety of tools and resources to safeguard our protectees. In order to maintain operational security, the Secret Service does not discuss the specific means and methods used to conduct our protective operations.'

 

His level of vulnerability while playing his favourite sport was revealed when, on September 15 2024, his guards spotted a man aiming a rifle from shrubbery at a member of Mr Trump's security team at West Palm Beach, Florida.

After the incident, it was reported the Secret Service told Trump in a private meeting that significant new security arrangements will be needed if he wants to keep playing golf.In the aftermath he also indicated he'll keep playing golf despite warnings from the agency it is difficult to protect him on his course.

 

Paul Eckloff, a Secret Service agent of 20 years who protected Trump during his presidency, told the BBC in September: 'The hobby of golf is particularly problematic:You're outside, an outdoor venue, for hours at a time.'But Trump has been bullish about playing the sport, despite the risks. In September he said: 'I just said let's let's go play a quick round because it's all business for me. It's my only bit of a form of exercise, so I like it, just something that is good.'
