As we reported earlier, law enforcement has found markings on ammunition inside the rifle recovered into this case, including an up, right, and three down arrows.

 

It appears these arrows are linked to video gaming.

 

The arrow symbols match the input needed to use a stratagem in the video game Helldivers 2.

 

That stratagem, Eagle 500kg Bomb, external, is considered one of the most destructive special moves in the game.

 

The game, which won two Bafta awards earlier this year, was a smash hit. Set in a satirical universe inspired by the 1990s sci-fi film Starship Troopers, players can team up with friends or strangers to kill big insects and robots.

 

Notably, the theme of the game includes some political references. On its Steam page, there is a description which says:

 

"Freedom. Peace. Democracy.

 

"Your Super Earth-born rights.

 

"The key pillars of our civilisation.

New details emerge of Robinson's confession and arrest

With Tyler Robinson in custody, more details are emerging about the lead-up to his arrest.

 

As we've already reported, Robinson's father recognised his son when the FBI released pictures of the suspect on Thursday.

 

According to the BBC's US partner CBS News, sources say Robinson admitted to his father that he was the person in the photos.

 

Robinson's father told his son he should hand himself in. But Robinson said he would rather take his own life.

 

The father than called a youth pastor, who is close to Tyler Robinson and his family. The pastor, and Tyler's father, tried to calm him down.

 

The pastor called the US Marshals. The Marshals then detained Robinson, who kept him secure until the FBI came and took the 22-year-old into custody.

'No way': Democratic donors balk at donating to Biden's presidential library

Former President Joe Biden is running into a problem in his nascent effort to raise money for a presidential library: Donors are checked out.

 

“I want an $800,000 refund,” said John Morgan, a Florida-based personal injury lawyer. He was referring to the nearly $1 million he said he raised for Biden that went to then-Vice President Kamala Harris last year, after she assumed Biden’s role as the Democratic presidential nominee.

 

“I don’t believe a library will ever be built unless it’s a bookmobile from the old days,” added Morgan, who is a longtime Biden devotee.

 

Susie Buell, a major donor in the Democratic Party, said, “No one has asked, but I am not inclined to give to libraries.”

 

“I’d like him to have some nice library,” a third donor chimed in. “I just don’t see that’s where I’m going to spend my money.”

 

And a fourth, who was a Biden bundler and onetime administration official, replied succinctly: “Me? No way.”

 

Most of the more than half a dozen people who were once major Biden donors or bundlers who spoke with NBC News said they harbored no ill will toward Biden himself but either wouldn’t give to the library or would give only a token amount. A number of them requested anonymity to speak frankly.

 

They cited a range of factors, from not wanting to make themselves a target of the White House to holding their financial firepower for the party’s future. Some cited personal interactions with Biden’s inner circle as being so distasteful they believed it would be a barrier to ever raising significant funds for the 46th president of the United States.

 

Biden also faces residual anger from the party over his decision to seek a second term despite health issues. Biden then upended the party’s nomination process with a late exit after his mental frailties were in full view during a June 2024 televised debate.

 

Rufus Gifford, who led fundraising for Biden’s re-election campaign and was finance director for President Barack Obama, was named chairman of the library board. He said he is optimistic that, despite some of the challenges, donors will want to sign on to the project.

 

“Those of us who have been around for a while and love the guy but also understand the full picture want to see what we can do to protect and promote his legacy,” Gifford said. “This isn’t about the past. It’s about the future.”

 

One person familiar with the Biden team’s plans said the project would have a goal of bringing in between $200 million and $300 million. That’s far from the more than $850 million cost of the Obama Presidential Library, due to open in Chicago in the spring. While still in office, President Donald Trump has commanded millions of dollars for a future library — something Democrats have decried as fundraising without guardrails — not to mention a controversial decision that the U.S. Air Force acquire an opulent 747 megajet from the Qatari royal family that is later to be transferred to a Trump library foundation.

 

“It is my opinion no significant building will be built,” Morgan went on, saying his suggestion of a bookmobile was a joke, “but not by much.” ==He cited Biden’s age — 82 — and medical issues as reasons the former president might not be much help raising money for the library. “Couple that with the perception that [the party’s] woes rest with his decision to seek a second term and we have the Hindenburg heading

Those who frequently interact with major Democratic donors say there are other obstacles.

Just how fearless is advice that the author fears the public will see?

 

In the current Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, parts of a document can be redacted if the contents would disclose deliberative matter; that is, advice, recommendations and consultations. It’s a catch-all exemption deployed regularly in response to document requests.

 

However, the exemption is conditional. Even if the material is deliberative in nature, it must still be made available to the public unless doing so would be contrary to the public interest.

 

In trying to support the idea that the release of deliberative material would be contrary to the public interest, departments regularly raise the so-called ‘chilling effect’ that disclosure would have on public servants’ advice.

 

No shrinking violets?

The problem with the arguments used by FOI decision makers is that ‘shrinking violets’ in the Commonwealth public service are not allowed.

 

Section 10 of the Public Service Act requires public servants to be professional, trustworthy, open and accountable, and provide the Government with

 

advice that is frank, honest, timely and based on the best available evidence.

 

There is no scope for officials to depart from this – doing so would place them in breach of law and subject to disciplinary action or dismissal.

Early the following year he began advisory work for Connected Global, whose owners are close to the family of Bruce Hales, the leader of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church.

 

Connected Global's owners and directors, Gavin and Russell Grace and other Grace family members, also run Westlab, a pathology supply company.

 

Westlab reported $54.1 million in COVID contracts with the health department while Mr Hunt was health minister.

 

In the 11 months after Mr Hunt retired from politics in May 2022, the company received another $80.8 million in COVID contracts with the department.

 

Bruce Hales, who is an accountant as well as being the Brethren's spiritual leader, acted as an auditor for Westlab. Westlab sourced rapid antigen tests via a company controlled by two of Hales's sons.

How to Become a Saint

In the Roman Catholic Church, the process of becoming a saint, known as canonization, is a formal procedure that recognizes a deceased person as a saint, affirming they are in heaven and worthy of universal veneration.

To be beatified and declared "Blessed," a miracle attributed to the candidate's intercession after their death must be verified.

This miracle is usually an instantaneous, permanent, and complete healing that is scientifically unexplainable, confirmed by a panel of doctors and theologians before final approval by the Pope.

Martyrs are an exception and can be beatified without a miracle.

 

The final step, canonization, requires a second verified miracle attributed to the candidate's intercession after beatification.

Once this is confirmed and approved by the Pope, the individual is declared a saint and can be publicly venerated throughout the entire Catholic Church.

The Church teaches that canonization does not "make" someone a saint; rather, it formally recognizes that God has already made them a saint.

A Clemson University professor appears to have wiped his social media accounts after posting and sharing messages that mocked the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Melvin Earl Villaver Jr., an assistant professor of audio technology and global black studies in Clemson’s Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, appears to have reposted and commented on multiple X posts ridiculing Kirk after his murder at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10.

Screenshots shared by Clemson College Republicans show an account apparently belonging to Villaver, “Melvin Earl, Ph.D.,” reposting a message that read, “no one mourns the wicked.” Another repost mocked Kirk’s views on empathy, saying, “keep the jokes coming. it’s what he would’ve wanted.”

The account also posted original comments, writing, “Twitter After Death” and “Can’t speak in public no more. Think about the ramifications.”

Other reposts from his account included a message saying Kirk was “worried about DEI and DIED instead,” and, “Charlie Kirk recently said to a Palestinian that there’s no such thing as Palestinians. Well now look… there’s no longer such a thing called Charlie Kirk.”

By Sept. 12, Villaver’s X profile appeared to have been deactivated or restricted, with prior posts no longer accessible to the public.

Additionally, Instagram and Facebook accounts apparently belonging to Villaver were also taken down or made private.

Villaver has taught at Clemson since 2023. According to an archived version of his now-deleted faculty biography, he integrates “Blues Epistemology” and decades of music production experience into his teaching and research. He is described as combining “artistry and expertise to provide a historical and cultural lens into today’s music scene,” drawing on his upbringing in Los Angeles.

Clemson called Villaver a “Game-changer” shortly after he joined the university.

Occupied West Bank (Quds News Network)- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has signed off on the highly controversial E1 settlement plan, which “buries the idea of a Palestinian state” and would divide the occupied West Bank in two, saying “there will be no Palestinian state”

 

“We are going to fulfil our promise that there will be no Palestinian state, this place belongs to us,” Netanyahu said during a visit to the illegal Maale Adumim settlement in the occupied West Bank, where thousands of new housing units would be added.

 

“We will safeguard our heritage, our land and our security … We are going to double the city’s population.”

 

In response, the Jerusalem Governorate said in a statement that the plan would “bring about demographic change” and “consolidate the so-called Greater Jerusalem [vision] to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state.”

 

“Today’s agreement aims to accelerate colonial construction and strengthen settlement schemes to link the settlement of Maale Adumim to the Mishor Adumim settlement area and E1 projects,” it added.

 

What We Know?

 

The E1 plan was authorised last month by Israel’s far-right minister of finance, Bezalel Smotrich, who said he would approve tenders to build more than 3,000 housing units in the E1 area settlement project that would connect occupied Jerusalem and the existing illegal Israeli settlement of Maale Adumim, located several kilometres to the east.

 

“Approval of construction plans in E1 buries the idea of a Palestinian state and continues the many steps we are taking on the ground as part of the de facto sovereignty plan that we began implementing with the establishment of the government,” the finance minister said.

 

“After decades of international pressure and freezes, we are breaking conventions and connecting Maale Adumim to Jerusalem. This is Zionism at its best – building, settling, and strengthening our sovereignty in the Land of Israel.”

 

In a statement before the announcement, Smotrich, who is also a minister in Israel’s Ministry of Defence with broad responsibility for approving settlements in the occupied West Bank, hailed the project as “Zionism at its best”.

 

“After decades of international pressure and freezes, we are breaking conventions and connecting Maale Adumim to Jerusalem,” Smotrich added.

 

The E1 construction plan dates back to the late 1990s, and its implementation has repeatedly been delayed due to international opposition. The E1 plan has not yet received final approval, which is expected next week.

 

Israel Gantz, chairman of the Yesha Council – an umbrella organisation of illegal settlements in the West Bank – and head of the Binyamin Regional Council, praised the “tremendous and historic achievement for the settlement movement”, according to Israel National News. Gantz said it was a “true revolution in strengthening the settlement enterprise”, the outlet said.

 

Maale Adumim Mayor Guy Yifrach also hailed the new settlement, saying it will “connect Maale Adumim to Jerusalem and serve as a Zionist response of settlement and nation-building”.

 

“The Palestinians aimed to establish a stranglehold through illegal construction – this project will thwart that effort,” he said, according to Israel National News.

 

Israel postponed the plan in 2022 following United States pressure. But in recent months, Netanyahu’s far-right government has approved road-widening projects in the area and begun restricting Palestinian access.

 

Israeli anti-settlement watchdog Peace Now said a total of 4,030 new housing units had been approved in the occupied West Bank.

 

Some 730 are west of the existing Israeli settlement of Ariel, while 3,300 had been approved in a new Maale Adumim neighbourhood that will connect it “with the industrial zone to its east”.

 

“The 3,300 housing units in Maale Adumim represent an increase of about 33 percent in the settlement’s housing stock – an enormous expansion for a settlement whose population has been stagnant at around 38,000 for the past decade,” it said.

 

It added that the Maale Adumim extension raised “serious questions about the need for the E1 plan”.

 

“Since 1999 until now, whenever Israel tried to activate this project, all the American administrations would block it and stop it,” Jamal Juma, coordinator for Stop the Wall campaign, said.

 

“Because they know this is one of the most dangerous settlement projects that would totally separate the south of the West Bank from the middle and the north.”

 

The E1 project seeks to cut off Palestinian communities between Jerusalem and the Jordan Valley, which includes a historic area known as al-Bariyah, or “the Wilderness of Jerusalem”, which Palestine submitted to Unesco’s tentative list of heritage sites.

 

“This also means that the main historical route that has existed for more than 3,000 years existed – the road Jesus took from Jericho to Jerusalem – is going to be totally closed for the Palestinians,” said Juma.

 

The isolation of East Jerusalem from parts of the West Bank will force Palestinians to take lengthy detours to travel between several cities and towns.

 

The plan has been likened to fragmenting occupied Palestine into “Bantustans”, a reference to Black-only ghettos created across apartheid South Africa.

 

“Hebron and Bethlehem will become another Gaza – a strip isolated from the West. Ramallah will be the same,” said Juma.

 

Israel, Juma added, “started putting the framework for this when they started building the wall. It has been shaping the apartheid system, by isolating the Palestinians from each other, from their lands.”

 

Around 700,000 Israeli settlers live in roughly 300 illegal settlements across the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Settlements are illegal under international law.

 

Smotrich and other Israeli figures have repeatedly spoken of the “sovereignty plan”, referring to the formal annexation of parts of the West Bank through changing the reality on the ground.

 

Trump’s Support

 

The far-right minister said he has support from US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his controversial plan.

 

“[Netanyahu] backs me up in everything concerning Judea and Samaria, and is letting me create the revolution,” Smotrich said, using a biblical term for the West Bank. He spoke at an event in Maale Adumim, The Times of Israel newspaper reported.

 

Smotrich also said Trump and Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador to Israel, backed the plan to revive the long-frozen E1 settlement project, which the finance minister has said “buries the idea of a Palestinian state”.

 

Smotrich thanked them for their support, calling them “men of truth with a clear and distinct moral voice that is not confused by the hypocrisy of the West”.

 

He added that Trump and Huckabee believed “that a Palestinian state would endanger the existence of Israel” and that the West Bank is “an inseparable part of our land, the one that God promised to our father Abraham and gave to us thousands of years ago”.

 

Condemnations

 

Israel has faced international condemnation following the announced plans in August.

 

A joint statement criticising the so-called E1 plan was signed by 21 counties, including the UK, Australia, Canada and France, saying: “The decision by the Israeli higher planning committee to approve plans for settlement construction in the E1 area, east of Jerusalem, is unacceptable and a violation of international law. We condemn this decision and call for its immediate reversal in the strongest terms.”

 

The statement urged Israel to “urgently retract this plan,” adding the “unilateral action by the Israeli government undermines our collective desire for security and prosperity in the Middle East.”
