Imagine There Was A Violent Cult Committing Atrocities with Impunity

Imagine there was a violent cult that used scriptures from an ancient religion to convince its followers to do evil things.

Imagine the cult was given its own state.

Imagine the cult was given machine guns, tanks and war planes.

Imagine the cult obtained nuclear weapons.

Imagine the cult started committing genocide against the indigenous people who’d been living in the area where the cult’s state was established.

Imagine the cult had huge branches in the most powerful nation on earth, and the powerful nation defended the cult no matter what it did.

Imagine the cult flipped out and started relentlessly attacking and invading the surrounding nations.

Imagine the cult had so much influence and support in western society that western governments and institutions would censor, silence, fire, marginalize and deport anyone who criticized the cult’s actions.

Imagine the western media sympathized highly with the cult and spent the entire time framing its atrocities as entirely reasonable defensive actions, and framing critics of the cult as malicious bigots.

Imagine the cult kept getting crazier and crazier and more and more violent, but nobody could find a way to stop it because its actions were backed by this giant western power structure.

That’d suck, huh?

I think that’d be just about the most bat shit insane situation anyone could possibly imagine.

A nuclear-armed death cult just murdering and massacring mountains of human beings with total impunity, backed by the most powerful people on earth? That would be an unfathomable madness.

If someone made a movie about such a thing I’d stop watching halfway through, because I would find it too unbelievable.

I’d be like, come on man. Come up with a more realistic plot line. And come up with a more believable antagonist; nobody is that evil.

I’d be like come on Hollywood, you seriously expect me to maintain my suspension of disbelief when you’re putting out a movie about these cartoonishly evil bad guys who blow up hospitals and assassinate journalists and murder humanitarian workers and deliberately massacre starving civilians seeking food?

I’d be like, you really expect me to believe a violent cult could get all this power and do all these evil things and get away with it, just by lying about it all the time? Eventually people would stop believing their lies!

I’d be like, somebody would stop them. Not only does this movie have unbelievable antagonists, it also lacks any believable protagonists. Basic human decency would compel the world to stop all these atrocities being committed right out in the open. Where are the heroes in this story?

And then I’d storm out of the movie theater, glad to be outside that horrible fictional world where such freakish absurdities were taking place.

And then I’d stand in the parking lot and look up at the sky, and thank God I’m back in reality again.

Admiral General Antonio Piñeiro, the highest-ranking officer in the Spanish Navy,has firmly rejected the notion that military vessels should be used to intercept and block migrant boats. Speaking at a defense forum, Piñeiro emphasized that maritime law dictates the Navy's primary role in such situations is to save lives.

During an exchange with Javier Ortega Smith, a representative from the far-right party Vox, Piñeiro stated, "I am going to be very clear.It is a mandate that the Law of the Sea dictates: the Navy, if it finds a canoe at sea, its main mission is to save people if they are in danger. And that's that." He was ==responding to Ortega Smith's inquiry about increasing the permanent presence of military vessels in areas like the Strait of Gibraltar, Ceuta,

Melilla, and the Canary Islands to counter irregular migration==.

Piñeiro, who has served for over 40 years in the Navy, clarified that directives forcombating illegal immigration should come from political bodies, not the military. While acknowledging that the military can assist countries of origin in surveillance efforts, he stressed that the operational directives are a political matter.

His remarks come amidst ongoing political debate, with Vox repeatedly advocating for the armed forces to play a more direct role in stopping migrant arrivals. This is not the first time a high-ranking military official has pushed back against such proposals. Pentagon demands journalists sign pledge not to gather certain information

If they don’t agree to limits, including restricting movement within building, Pentagon press passes will be revoked

The US military has issued new media restrictions demanding that journalists pledge not to gather any information – including unclassified documents – that has not been authorized for release or else risk revocation of their press passes.

In a memo issued Thursday, the Pentagon stated that “it remains committed to transparency to promote accountability and public trust”. However, using an abbreviation for the recently rebranded Department of War headed by the Trump administration’s Pete Hegseth, the memo added: “DoW information must be approved for public release by an appropriate authorizing official before it is released, even if it is unclassified.”

It went on to say: “Only authorized persons who have received favorable determinations of eligibility for access, signed approved non-disclosure agreements, and have a need-to-know may be granted access to [classified national security information].”

Journalists reporting from the Pentagon are now required to sign a pledge agreeing to restrict their movements within the building and not to access any unauthorized materials. If they refuse to sign the pledge, their Pentagon press passes will be revoked.

In a post on X, Hegseth said Friday: “The ‘press’ does not run the Pentagon – the people do. The press is no longer allowed to roam the halls of a secure facility. Wear a badge and follow the rules – or go home.”

The latest memo follows the announcement by Hegseth in May regarding new press restrictions at the Pentagon. These restrictions limit reporters’ movements within the building to specific areas including the press pens, food court and courtyard. This is a departure from the usual practice under previous presidential administrations where reporters typically had more freedom of movement within the Pentagon.

Hegseth has severely limited media access after facing backlash for sharing sensitive information about US strikes in Yemen in March in a Signal group chat where a journalist was accidentally included.

Since he assumed office, Hegseth has maintained a hostile attitude towards major media networks. He ordered the removal of various longstanding news organizations including the New York Times, CNN, Politico and NPR from their dedicated offices in the Pentagon.

The Pentagon’s latest memo has drawn criticism from journalists and free press advocates, with the National Press Club’s president Mike Balsamo saying: “This is a direct assault on independent journalism at the very place where independent scrutiny matters most: the US military.

“If the news about our military must first be approved by the government, then the public is no longer getting independent reporting. It is getting only what officials want them to see. That should alarm every American.”

Similarly, Freedom of the Press Foundation said “this policy operates as a prior restraint on publication, which is considered the most serious” violations of the press freedoms guaranteed by the US constitution’s first amendment.

“The government cannot prohibit journalists from public information merely by claiming it’s a secret,” the foundation said.

Meanwhile, Thomas Evans, editor in chief of National Public Radio (NPR), said his outlet was “taking this very seriously”.

“We’ll be working with other news organizations to push back,” Evans remarked. “We’re big fans of the first amendment and transparency, and we want the American public to understand what’s being done in their name.”

A child with symptoms placing him within the autism spectrum and with urine biochemical markers consistent with fungal (Aspergillus) colonization of the gastrointestinal tract was first treated with the antifungal probiotic Saccharomyces boulardii. A dramatic Herxheimer reaction provided strong clinical indications that mold colonization might be a factor in causing autism in this child.

Results

The child had a complete recovery from all the symptoms of autism and in addition developed excellent academic, athletic, and musical skills. The recovery coincided with a marked reduction of urine markers of Aspergillus colonization.

Conclusions

Escalation of the dose of itraconazole resulted in a complete loss of all symptoms of autism over the course of three months. This rapid complete reversal of autism is consistent with several articles proposing mold in general and Aspergillus specifically as a potential major cause of autism.

Supreme Court takes up dispute over Trump's authority to fire FTC member

Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, a member of the Federal Trade Commission, will not remain in office while the case is being litigated. Sept. 22, 2025, 3:27 PM EDT By Lawrence Hurley

WASHINGTON — Taking up a major case on the structure of the federal government, the Supreme Court on Monday agreed to consider whether President Donald Trump can fire a member of the Federal Trade Commission despite a law that limits his ability to do so.

While the court is deciding the case, a lower court ruling in favor of the commissioner in question, Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, will remain on hold, the court said. That means she will not remain in office while the case is litigated.

In weighing the case, the conservative-majority court will decide whether a key 1935 Supreme Court ruling called Humphrey's Executor v. United States, which upheld restrictions on the president's power to fire FTC members, should be overturned.

The ruling would apply not just to the FTC but also other federal agencies with similar restrictions.

Chief Justice John Roberts had issued a temporary stay on Sept. 8 that allowed Trump to remove Slaughter from office.

Three liberal justices dissented from the court's decision to allow Slaughter's firing while litigation continues.

Justice Elena Kagan wrote that the 1935 ruling remains on the books until such time as the court overturns it. But in the meantime, the court has summarily "handed full control of all those agencies to the president," she wrote.

Complaining about the court's growing number of decisions that grant emergency requests filed by the Trump administration, Kagan said that the process had been used "to transfer government authority from Congress to the president, and thus to re-shape the nation's separation of powers."

The court's actions would suggest the conservative majority is sympathetic to the Trump administration's arguments that the legal provisions restricting the president's ability to remove FTC members without cause unlawfully limit his powers under Article 2 of the Constitution.

A second legal question concerns whether Slaughter even has a legal avenue to remain in office if she ultimately wins on her argument that the firing was illegal.

The court said oral arguments will be held in December.

Trump fired both Democratic commissioners on the five-member FTC, Slaughter and Alvaro Bedoya, in March. Both challenged the move, although Bedoya later dropped out of the case.

A federal judge in July ruled in favor of Slaughter, citing the 1935 Supreme Court precedent. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit reached a similar conclusion.

This year, Trump has also sought to remove members of other independent federal agencies, which the Supreme Court has allowed.

The Supreme Court, whose majority has been skeptical of the concept of independent federal agencies that are not subject to presidential control, has undermined such protections in recent years in a series of cases involving other agencies.

Trump has sought to dramatically re-shape the federal government using an aggressive form of executive power.

In addition to seeking to control hitherto independent agencies, he has also sought to dismantle some agencies and has fired thousands of federal workers.
