MIAMI, Fla. – U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced the establishment of a new Joint Task Force (JTF) under II Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF) today to synchronize and augment counter-narcotics efforts across the Western Hemisphere.

“Transnational criminal organizations threaten the security, prosperity, and health of our hemisphere,” said Adm. Alvin Holsey, Commander, SOUTHCOM. “By forming a JTF around II MEF headquarters, we enhance our ability to detect, disrupt, and dismantle illicit trafficking networks faster and at greater depth – together with our U.S. and partner-nation counterparts.”

 

Key objectives of the new JTF include:

 

  • Identifying narcotics trafficking patterns to interdict illegal shipments of narcotics before they reach the U.S. and partner-nation territories using intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance aircraft.

 

  • Expanding real-time intelligence fusion among U.S. military, federal law enforcement, and partner-nation agencies.

 

  • Conducting joint training to improve interoperability among U.S. military services and increase rapid-response posture.

 

  • Enhancing partner-nation counter narcotics operations capacity through advisory teams and combined operations.

 

“Our team is trained, equipped, and ready to lead this Joint Task Force,” said Lt. Gen. Calvert Worth, Commanding General, II MEF and designated JTF Commander. “This is principally a maritime effort, and our team will leverage maritime patrols, aerial surveillance, precision interdictions, and intelligence sharing to counter illicit traffic, uphold the rule of law, and ultimately better protect vulnerable communities here at home.”

 

The JTF will report directly to SOUTHCOM. Its creation underscores SOUTHCOM’s commitment to a whole-of-government, multinational approach to defeat and dismantle criminal networks that exploit our shared borders and maritime domains.

On September 29, the US Department of Commerce announced a new rule that expands its "entity-list" export restrictions to subsidiaries at least 50 percent owned by a company on the list — a move clearly aimed at Chinese companies. This was widely seen as Washington’s attempt to create new leverage ahead of the next round of China–US talks.

 

On Wednesday, the US agencies including Commerce Department announced they were adding 15 Chinese companies to its restricted trade list. On Thursday, the Treasury Department said it would impose a fourth round of sanctions targeting on China-based refineries that continue to purchase Iranian oil. In addition, the US will start to charge port fees on Chinese-made freight vessels, starting October 14.

 

Faced with such a US, shouldn’t China show them a thing or two? Shouldn’t it make sure they don’t get carried away, knowing that China also holds powerful leverage to counter them?

Moldova’s new pro-NATO military doctrine is the cost of EU integration, former MP Marina Tauber has argued

 

Moldova’s new military doctrine is “a manifesto rejecting peace, neutrality, and the future of our nation” and priming it for a conflict with Russia, opposition politician and former lawmaker Marina Tauber has said.

 

“Just a week after the election, Russia has officially been labeled a threat. The next phase is to draw our nation into a war,” Tauber stated in an interview with Russia’s TASS news agency published on Thursday.

 

She further argued that Moldova’s fragile economy cannot sustain militarization. “While our elderly must choose between bread and medicine,our government buys armor and conducts drills with NATO. That is the real price of the so-called ‘European choice,’” she said.

 

Tauber accused President Maia Sandu’s government of abandoning Moldova’s constitutional neutralityin pursuit of EU membership.

 

Moldova’s newly adopted military doctrine, unveiled on Wednesday, commits the country toboosting defense spending and aligning its forces with NATO standards over the next decade. The document brands the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in the breakaway region of Transnistria as “a flagrant violation of Moldova’s sovereignty and neutrality,” while insisting that closer cooperation with NATO does not violate the nation’s constitutionally mandated neutral status.

 

Tauber was forced to flee Moldova days before the parliamentary election in late September, as she was facing a criminal conviction on charges of financial misconduct that she insists were politically motivated.

 

Critics of Sandu, a Romanian citizen and outspoken advocate of EU integration,have accused her of using anti-Russian rhetoric to consolidate power. Several opposition candidates were barred from the ballot ahead of the vote – a move that the targeted politicians denounced as an abuse of power – allowing Sandu’s Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) to secure a majority.

 

Moscow has criticized Moldova’s foreign policy shift,accusing Sandu’s administration of acting against national interests in favor of Western geopolitical goals. Russian officials have cited NATO’s eastward expansion, including its promise to admit Ukraine as a member, as one of the key causes of the conflict between Moscow and Kiev.

‘Spirit’ of Trump-Putin summit is still alive – Kremlin

His comments come after Russian DeputyForeign Minister Sergey Ryabkov claimed earlier this week that the momentum createdby the meeting of President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, in Anchorage in Augusthad been “exhausted” due to Kievand its Western European backers who advocate for a “war to the last Ukrainian.”

 

Speaking to Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin on Friday,Peskov stressed that the “impulse” and “spirit” of the Anchorage summit “are alive” and expressed hope that Trump “maintains the political will for a peaceful settlement.”

 

Peskov said the Kremlin remains optimistic “in the spirit of Anchorage” but has described “not very good developments” in Kiev’s behavior. He linked this to the influence of Ukraine’s Western European backers, whose positions are “hard to explain, frenzied, and militaristic.”

 

He stated that the Istanbul talks with Kiev have been put on “on pause” because the Ukrainian side has not replied to any of Russia’s proposals.

 

Russian and Ukrainian delegations have met several times for talks this year. After the latest round in Istanbul in July,the two sides agreed to set up working groups to develop a settlement plan addressing political, military, and humanitarian issues. Peskov has saidnothing is moving forward because Kiev has not answered the proposals or repliedto the draft document submitted by Moscow.

 

Peskov reiterated that Moscow remains open to a peaceful settlement butstated that Kiev appears not to realize that its negotiating position is “deteriorating with each passing day.”

Starbucks slashes 900 jobs, closes 450 stores, CEO rakes in $95.8 million as Dutch Bros expands

 

Starbucks just took a knife to itself. 450 stores closed. 900 jobs gone. They called it restructuring, but that word hides everything. It means the company is protecting the top while slicing off the bottom. It means someone in a boardroom decided the people serving the coffee are worth less than the paper cup it comes in.

 

Only months ago they handed their new CEO $95.8 million. That number burns. It equals about 70 cents per employee per day, a figure that makes you stop and wonder what kind of leadership demands sacrifice from everyone but themselves. You can’t build loyalty with numbers like that.

 

They said these closures were about efficiency. No. Efficiency does not empty neighborhoods. Efficiency does not erase livelihoods overnight. These are cuts made because the brand is slipping and demand is cooling faster than they admit.

 

Meanwhile, Dutch Bros is doing the opposite. They are expanding. They plan to double their stores by 2030. That is the hunger Starbucks used to have before it became a bureaucracy in green aprons. Dutch Bros is building while Starbucks is retreating, and that shift will be remembered.

 

This is not about coffee anymore. It is about what happens when a company loses its soul. Starbucks is still rich, still talking about culture and community, but the math says otherwise. When a corporation pays one man $95.8 million while erasing 900 paychecks, that is a company eating itself alive.

South Africa shocked by death of ambassador in Paris – minister

 

Nathi Mthethwa was found dead at a hotel in the French capital last month, and his body has already arrived in his homeland for burial

 

“More than a week ago, our nation received the harrowing news of Ambassador Mthethwa’s passing,” Lamola said.

 

“With this news, those who loved and shared pivotal moments of his life – as a son, father, husband, brother, colleague, friend, comrade and diplomat – were confronted with unimaginable grief and a deep sense of loss.

 

“The news of his passing shook us all profoundly, reminding us of the fragility of life and the fleeting nature of time. We have indeed suffered a monumental loss.”

 

Lamola said at the the time of his death, Mthethwa was serving as South Africa’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to France and was also accredited to Monaco.

 

“As the President remarked in his tribute, among Ambassador Mthethwa’s achievements in this role – which he had occupied since 2023 – was the deepening of relations between South Africa and the Republic of France, and advancing our country’s contribution to transforming global power relations,” Lamola said.

 

Lamola extended his gratitude to Ambassador David Martino and the French government for their support since Mthethwa’s untimely death. He also confirmed that the ambassador’s body had landed in South Africa.

 

“You supported us and his family from that moment until his mortal remains departed last night,” he said. “He will shortly be en route back to KwaZulu-Natal, where he will be laid to rest in his beloved rural home of KwaMbonambi.”

 

Mthethwa, who previously served as Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, died last week at the age of 58 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Paris. His family performed a traditional ritual at the hotel to fetch his spirit before repatriating his remains.

 

President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a Special Official Funeral for Mthethwa, which will take place on Sunday in KwaZulu-Natal.

More American troops to the war-ravaged Levant… but this time it is for peace, at least if all goes according to plan. Up to 200 US troops already based in the Middle East will be deployed to Israel to help oversee the ceasefire in Gaza, US officials say.

 

The military apparatus or operations room which the US will lead will be known as the civil-military Joint Control Center and will include troops from Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and the UAE. Interestingly, the presence of Turkish troops as well as Arab soldiers appears to be a compromise reached at Hamas request. Hamas has specifically wanted greater Turkish involvement in post-war Gaza.

Pfizer Left COVID-19 Vaccine Data Out Of Submissions To FDA, Documents Show

 

Data on how parts of a Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine spread in the bodies of mice were withheld from regulatory submissions to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, according to a new comparison of those submissions and similar documents sent to Japanese regulators.

 

Byram Bridle, who has a PhD in immunology and is an associate professor of immunology and virology at the University of Guelph in Canada, authored the comparison. It was dated Aug. 13 and released on Oct. 4 by Dr. Robert Malone, a vaccine adviser to the U.S. government.

 

“The findings of this report raise serious questions about the integrity of the health regulatory process during the declared COVID-19 pandemic,” Bridle said in his conclusions.

 

During a September meeting, under questioning by Malone, a Pfizer representative said that its studies of the spread of vaccine elements, known as biodistribution, were done in consultation with the FDA.

 

“Pfizer does not have a further comment other than we did our work in close consultation with the FDA on all our of biodistribution studies that were approved for our licensed product,” the representative said.

 

As Zachary Stieber details below, Malone told The Epoch Times that the images in the submissions appear to have been manipulated “to hide the fact that the biodistribution was much broader than the initial narrative that was promoted, which is that it stays at the site of injection and draining lymph nodes.”

 

He added: “That was clearly a lie, and it was a lie that we now know was supported by editing data that were presented to the FDA. And, according to what the Pfizer representative stated, that editing of data was done in cooperation and consultation between Pfizer and the FDA. That is completely unacceptable.”

 

Pfizer, BioNTech, and the FDA did not respond to requests for comment.

Pfizer and Moderna did not carry out human biodistribution studies before the FDA cleared their messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccines in late 2020. They tested the spread of mRNA in animals.

 

Pfizer and BioNTech tested a surrogate product containing modified RNA, or modRNA, and luciferase, a bioluminescent enzyme found in fireflies, in mice and rats. The distribution was tracked over nine days, according to documents released by the FDA in 2022 under court order.

 

“Highest signal was detected at the first time points after immunization at the injection site and the signal declined slowly over time until day 9,” the BioNTech report on the mice study stated. The testing “showed limited drainage to the liver,” but no signal was detected 48 hours after immunization, according to the report.

A Georgia man has been arrested and extradited to North Carolina after a shocking incident caught on camera showed him tearing down a pro-Trump banner at a small business, and then opening fire on the property owner who confronted him.

 

According to the Swain County Sheriff’s Office, 39-year-old Benjamin Michael Campbell of Atlanta is facing multiple felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, discharging a firearm within an enclosure to incite fear, and willful and wanton injury to personal property for his role in the September 6th confrontation outside the Paddle Inn Rafting Company, WLOSreported.

 

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that the encounter began when business owner Mark Thomas noticed suspicious activity on his security cameras.

 

Thomas told News 13 he saw a Jeep slam on its brakes outside his rafting business before a man, later identified as Campbell, jumped out, crossed the road, and ripped down a large Trump 2024 banner hanging on his property.

 

Thomas, watching in real time, grabbed his rifle and stepped out onto his porch. He says he fired two warning shots into the air to deter the vandal. Instead of fleeing, Campbell allegedly opened fire from the roadway, sending bullets toward the business owner’s property in a dangerous exchange of gunfire.

 

By the time deputies arrived, the suspect’s vehicle was gone.

 

On September 30, Swain County deputies coordinated with the Cobb County Police Department in Georgia to locate Campbell.

 

Search warrants were executed on two residences and the vehicle used during the shooting.

 

After gathering evidence, Campbell was taken into custody and extradited back to Swain County, North Carolina, where he now faces prosecution. He is currently being held on a $70,000 bond.

President Trump said Friday he plans to visit Egypt and Israel during a one-day trip to the Middle East early next week to mark the implementation of a peace agreement that will see a pause in fighting in Gaza and the release of dozens of hostages.

 

Trump told reporters he will visit Cairo while in Egypt, and he plans to speak at the Knesset, Israel’s parliament. He indicated many other world leaders would be in attendance. The president is expected to depart Sunday evening, spend Monday in the Middle East then fly back to Washington, D.C.

 

Trump indicated he wants to get back to the White House for a Tuesday ceremony to award Charlie Kirk, the late conservative activist, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Assabet Valley Vocational High School employee charged with possession of child sex abuse materials

 

A custodian at Assabet Valley Vocational Technical High School in Marlboro has been charged with possessing child sex abuse materials, according to Massachusetts State Police.

 

State Police said they received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that led them to Luis Guncay-Barros, 25, of Westborough, who was recently hired at the high school.

 

In Court documents, troopers said Guncay-Barros admitted to using the anonymous and encrypted Telegram app on his phone to view and sometimes download child sex abuse material from the internet. Those documents also say he was hired at Assabet Valley Vocational Technical High School last month, and previously worked for Westborough Public Schools for the last four years.

 

Police informed administrators of both schools of the arrest because Guncay-Barros was in a position of trust with juvenile students.

 

In a statement, the Superintendent of Assabet Valley Vocational Technical High School, Ernest Houle, called the charges deeply disturbing.

 

Houle wrote, “There is no indication at this time that the allegations involve any Assabet student, staff member, or faculty member. The employee was assigned to the 3-11 p.m. shift and had limited contact with students.”

 

Investigators said they also found women’s underwear and a child’s underwear in a small bag in Guncay-Barros’ room at his home. Police said he told them he found the underwear in a parking lot of one of the schools he worked at.

 

Houle tells 7NEWS Guncay-Barros is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. He is out on $5,000 cash bail.

Northern Michigan man arrested for sex assault after teenage daughter gives birth

 

A Grand Traverse County man was arrested this week after authorities said evidence showed he was the biological father of the baby born to his own teenage daughter earlier this year.

 

The suspect, 34, is accused of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and was taken to the county jail, according to The Ticker. Physical evidence collected from the man’s Garfield Township home was analyzed by Michigan State Police Forensic Lab technicians before the arrest.

 

Child Protective Services alerted the sheriff’s department in May to allegations of a sex assault after a girl, 14, gave birth. Initially, another person was eyed as a suspect until the evidence allegedly linked the girl’s father to the assault.

As noted by President Trump during his remarks about the regional state leaders requesting that he personallyhead the “Gaza Board of Peace,” it is only USA President Trump the regional stakeholder’s trust.

 

Together with the USA and Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the UAE and Qatarhave tentatively constructed a ceasefire and peace plan that is contingent upon President Trump as the fulcrum to balance all interests. As the difficult challenge begins, the preliminary objectives – the ‘how to do this‘ – aspect starts to surface. As noted by the Associated Press, President Trump is sending 200 experts in transportation, planning, security, logistics and engineering from the U.S. military to frame out a “civil-military coordination center” in Israel.

 

The coordination center will include partner nations, nongovernmental organizations and private-sector experts. WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States is sending about 200 troops to Israel to help support and monitor the ceasefire deal in Gaza as part of a teamthat includes partner nations, nongovernmental organizations and private-sector players, U.S. officials said Thursday.

 

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss details that were not authorized for release,said U.S. Central Command is going to establish a “civil-military coordination center” in Israelthat will help facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid as well as logistical and security assistance into the territory wracked by two years of war.

 

The remarks provide some of the first details on how the ceasefire dealwould be monitored and that the U.S. military would have a role in that effort.

 

After Israel and Hamas agreed to the first phase of a Trump administration plan to halt the fighting, a litany of questions remain on next steps, including Hamas disarmament, a withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and a future government in the territory.

These sophisticated outfits also engage in trickery to get papers published, infiltrating journals with their own editors and reviewers and even resorting to bribery, according to investigators and a white paper from Wiley, a New Jersey-based publisher. The scale of the fraud is eye-popping: One Wiley subsidiary, Hindawi, retracted more than 8,000 articles two years ago forsuspected paper mill involvement.

 

U.S. universities and regulators have been able to brush off the threat of paper mills because they have mostly sold their services in China, where research integrity standards are rarely enforced, according to experts. But these rogue operators are building on their success in Asia and expanding to the U.S. and Western Europe, where the prize is the prestige of naming an author on an article from a famous university.
