ProPublica reveals Trump’s DHS quietly removing oversight, merging law enforcement powers, and building a hidden architecture of control

Trump’s second term isn’t a repeat of the first. It’s an expansion of power that moves quietly while the noise of rallies and courtrooms fills the air. Beneath that noise, a new kind of federal force is taking shape — one that operates without oversight, without public transparency, and without restraint.

According to ProPublica, Trump’s DHS appointees have “dismantled civil rights guardrails, protected agents’ anonymity and encouraged them to wear masks, threatened groups that stood in their way, and overwhelmed legal challenges to their arrests and tactics.” That is how secret policing begins — not with a law, but with a decision to remove limits.

“Under President Donald Trump’s deportation mission, ICE officers are using force to detain and jail immigrants… The administration gutted guardrails and offices meant to rein in abusive actions.” The same report shows how the machinery of enforcement has been retooled to act faster and answer fewer questions.

This is not only about immigration. It is about what happens when a president turns federal agents loose in American cities and then threatens to send troops into San Francisco. Archive link.

In California, Marines fired live artillery over a public interstate. A patrol vehicle was struck by shrapnel. NBC News confirmed the event. The boundary between military training and civilian safety is being erased piece by piece.

In Los Angeles, a curfew imposed under vague claims of public safety has gutted restaurants across downtown. Some report losses as high as 80%. SFGate described business owners who say they were blindsided by the order and still waiting for relief.

The reach of enforcement is spreading through the system itself. ProPublica found that the IRS is building a network that allows ICE to access taxpayer records and home addresses “on demand.” Police departments are also being deputized under ICE’s 287(g) program, turning minor traffic stops into immigration raids.

Inside DHS, the last internal safeguard is gone. The Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties has been shut down, freezing more than 600 active cases. ProPublica reports that the closure removed the only mechanism capable of investigating abuse from within.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan on Tuesday asked the Justice Department to pursue criminal charges against former CIA Director John Brennan, alleging he lied to Congress about the Steele dossier’s role in a 2017 intelligence assessment on Russian election interference.

Jordan, a Republican from Ohio, said Brennan’s 2023 testimony before the committee was “willfully and intentionally false” and contradicted by CIA records and findings from the House Intelligence Committee.

“Making false statements before Congress is a crime that undermines the integrity of the Committee’s constitutional duty to conduct oversight,” Jordan wrote.

Trump and his Republican allies have intensified what critics call a campaign of retribution against his political enemies, using the Justice Department and his allies in Congress to target former officials and rivals from his first term. In recent months, Trump has publicly pressured prosecutors to bring cases against figures including former FBI Director James Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James and Brennan, all of whom played roles in investigations or legal actions involving him.

The president has replaced several top federal prosecutors with loyalists, including one of his former personal attorneys, and praised indictments against his critics as “justice finally being served.”

The moves have alarmed legal experts and some members of both parties, who warn that Trump is eroding the Justice Department’s independence and weaponizing it to settle political scores. Supporters argue that he is holding accountable officials who misused their power during investigations into his 2016 campaign.

The resulting prosecutions and referrals — often announced by Trump allies in Congress — have deepened divisions in Washington and raised concerns that the criminal justice system is being wielded as a political tool heading into the 2026 election season.

What is the Steele Dossier?

The Steele dossier is a collection of unverified intelligence reports compiled in 2016 by Christopher Steele, a former British spy who was hired by a research firm working for Democrats during the U.S. presidential campaign. The memos contained a series of explosive — and largely unsubstantiated — allegations about Donald Trump’s ties to Russia, including claims that the Kremlin had compromising information on him and that members of his campaign had coordinated with Russian operatives to influence the election.

The dossier circulated widely among journalists, intelligence officials and lawmakers in late 2016 and early 2017. Portions of it informed early investigative steps in the FBI’s Russia probe, though many of its central claims were never corroborated. U.S. intelligence agencies later concluded that Russia did interfere in the 2016 election, but the more sensational allegations in the Steele dossier — particularly those of personal or financial blackmail — remain unproven and, in some cases, discredited.

The document became a political flashpoint: Democrats defended it as a warning sign of possible foreign compromise, while Republicans accused investigators of relying on unverified opposition research to justify surveillance of Trump associates.

A quiet provision in a House spending bill could shield Bayer from tens of thousands of Roundup cancer lawsuits by blocking new pesticide label warnings.

It’s off the record, on the QT, and very hush hush. Bayer AG wants no one to know, but the pesticide manufacturer is potentially just two votes away from the golden ticket it has wanted ever since acquiring Saint Louis based Monsanto in 2018.

A provision tucked deep in a spending bill to fund the Environmental Protection Agency and the Interior Department would effectively end lawsuits from plaintiffs claiming Bayer’s pesticide Roundup and its active ingredient glyphosate gave them cancer.

To date, Bayer has paid out roughly $11 billion in settlements to about 100,000 plaintiffs. At least 63,000 additional lawsuits are pending. Most of those cases are in state courts where the lawsuits typically allege Bayer’s Roundup labels fail to warn about potential cancer risks, referencing a 2015 International Agency for Research study that found glyphosate was “probably carcinogenic to humans.”

The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act prohibits the sale of any pesticide that is “misbranded.” Plaintiffs often successfully argue the lack of a cancer warning on the label amounts to FIFRA-defined misbranding.

Speaking at the opening of the Knesset’s winter session, Netanyahu faced repeated interruptions from opposition lawmakers protesting his government’s policies and its deliberate prolonging of the Israeli war in Gaza.

“During the ceasefire, two soldiers fell… We struck them with 153 tons of bombs and attacked dozens of targets across the Gaza Strip,” he said.

The Gaza government media office reported 80 Israeli ceasefire violations since the US-sponsored agreement came into effect on Oct. 10, resulting in 97 Palestinians killed, including 44 on Sunday alone, and 230 others injured.

Tel Aviv alleged that Hamas had attacked its forces in the southern city of Rafah. The Palestinian group has denied any involvement and reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire agreement.

The ceasefire deal was announced on Oct. 10, based on a phased plan presented by US President Donald Trump. Phase one included the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.

Since October 2023, the Israeli genocidal war has killed over 68,200 people and injured more than 170,200, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

Mystery over Minneapolis as police stunned by 'ringed' UFO defying laws of physics

Updated: 14:38 EDT, 21 October 2025

Three Minneapolis police officers spotted a spherical Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) with six glowing rings that changed colors.

The anonymous witnesses filed a report with Americans for Safe Aerospace, a non-profit led by former US Navy pilot and whistleblower Ryan Graves, saying they observed the object from a parking garage using binoculars.

According to the report, one officer drove toward the UAP in a squad car while the other two continued watching from the garage.

The officers described the object as hovering at 10,000 feet, moving with both slow and hypersonic speeds, and generating lift without any sound.

Even more striking, the report described a near-proximity encounter between the UAP and a civilian helicopter.

The observation took place in the vicinity of Minnesota's Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant, a detail that has raised eyebrows among UFO researchers, given the site's strategic significance.

The incident occurred in February, but Graves shared the report on X on Monday. A similar sighting was recorded on July 7 in Anoka, about a mile from the witness.

That UFO reportedly traveled along the Mississippi River at around 460mph, then abruptly slowed and silently descended behind nearby trees.

While believers view the report as yet another sign of advanced unknown technology, skeptics argue the sighting likely has a conventional explanation, perhaps one already orbiting high above Earth.

Alejandro Rojas, an advisor at Enigma Labs, which analyzes reports of UAPs, told Daily Mail that the sighting may have been NASA's International Space Station (ISS).

'The ISS has flown over the area for the last few days and was very bright. What we see in the video could be the ISS, but we will need more details to rule it out,' he said.

'The video also doesn't look like 'six interlocking rings of colored lights.' A small point of light in the distance can appear to be multiple colors when it is not, due to the atmosphere between the witness and the object.

'This is called scintillation and is the same thing that makes stars twinkle.' Rojas added that on both February 19 and July 7, the ISS had several bright flyovers in the area.

Americans for Safe Aerospace advocates for transparency in UAP research and collects reports from credible witnesses, including military and law enforcement personnel.

Graves posted on X that the platform has nearly 1000 reports, noting that more are set to be released.

He is a former US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet pilot who became one of the first military aviators to speak publicly about routine UFO encounters during training missions off the East Coast.

Graves first drew national attention after revealing that Navy pilots regularly encountered unidentified craft off the US East Coast between 2014 and 2015, objects that appeared to defy known flight physics.

These objects were detected both visually and on radar, appeared to hover against strong winds, and could accelerate instantly without visible propulsion.

In one incident, a pilot nearly collided with a cube-shaped object encased in a clear sphere.

Graves later said the encounters were so frequent they became part of pre-flight safety briefings. He later testified before Congress about the risks these unidentified objects pose to flight safety.

ISIS-Linked Syrian Official Captured, Then Freed by U.S. Forces In New Scandal

The United States-led coalition captured a member of ISIS during a helicopter raid in the heart of Syria, only to release him later with mortal wounds after finding out that he recently became a local official working with the country’s new Islamists-led government.

The news of the capture of Ahmed Abdullah Al-Masoud al-Badri spread quickly on social media after the raid, which took place in the town of al-Dumayr, some 40 kilometers to the northeast of Damascus, on October 18.

The raid was reportedly carried out by U.S. special forces and the Syrian Free Army (SFA). The group announced it was merging into the new Syrian military shortly after the fall of the regime of former president Bashar al-Assad. However, it continues to operate in the area of al-Tanf under the direct command of the U.S.-led coalition.

Syrian pro-government activists initially cheered for the “joint raid,” with U.S. special envoy to the country Tom Barrack even commenting on the news by writing “Syria is back to our side” on his official X account.

Al-Badri’s history as a member of ISIS is well known. His wife is reported to be the sister of Ibrahim Al-Naqrash, a senior commander of the terrorist group.

Despite this, he returned to al-Dumayr to work as a local official, or a “Sheikh,” with the government right after the fall of the Assad regime. This emerged shortly after his capture by the U.S.-led coalition. A photo showing him weeks earlier escorting Deputy Governor of Rif Dimashq, Mohammed Al-Amer, on a tour in al-Dumayr even surfaced online.

The exact details of his work with the government remain unclear, but appear to be related to the General Security Service, which is the country’s national police service, or the General Intelligence Service.

Once the information of al-Badri’s affiliation with the government spread everywhere, he was released by the U.S.-led coalition. He was, however, badly wounded. Apparently he resisted arrest and fired at U.S. special forces who shot back, hitting him. Another member of ISIS was reportedly killed at the time. On October 20, it was reported that he succumbed to his wound in a hospital near Damascus.

To justify the whole ordeal, some pro-government activists alleged that al-Badri was spying on ISIS for Syrian security forces and was framed by the SFA as a result of an old disagreement. Of course, none of these justifications makes any sense. What is more likely is that the man was simply a coordinator, or a liaison officer, between the government and the terrorist group.

Both the Syrian government and the U.S.-led coalition ignored the death of al-Badri. However, tensions were reported in al-Dumayr.

Barak Orland is an Israeli businessman living in Uganda for over a decade. He runs the company Bar Aviation, is considered close to President Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled for 40 years, and has taken part in numerous defense deals in that East African republic. In May 2012, he became a surveillance target. An unknown actor used what was then cutting-edge technology to pinpoint his phone as he walked across Istanbul's Atatürk Bridge.

A month earlier, a similar foray targeted Liat Ben Ari, the lawyer who years later would lead the corruption prosecution against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. She had just been appointed the Tel Aviv District's top prosecutor for tax and economic issues. This tracking attempt failed. Others did not.

Orland and Ben Ari are just two of over 300 Israelis whose cellphones have been targeted for surveillance. They were tracked using technology from an Indonesian firm called First Wap, a development being reported this week for the first time in an international investigation in partnership with Haaretz.

First Wap was among the first companies to sell cellphone surveillance capabilities and is considered a founder of what is now termed the digital intelligence industry. At defense expos today, it markets an array of simpler tools including capabilities it claims can rival Israel's most advanced spyware. And unlike infamous offensive cyber firms like NSO Group, its wares have also been used by private clients, not just governments.

More than 100 politicians, journalists and campaigners have condemned a “flagrant and partisan attempt to suppress investigative journalism” by Parliament.

Any settlement must be approved by senior DOJ officials, according to The New York Times,

Amid calls for Kevin Rudd’s head, Anthony Albanese has made it very clear where the Australian ambassador stands after his smack from Donald Trump.

Anthony Albanese has leapt to Kevin Rudd’s defence after he was criticised for laughing when Donald Trump humiliated Australia’s foreign ambassador at the White House.

The eSafety Commission's Digital Use and Risk report found that 26 per cent of children experienced their most recent or serious cyberbullying incident on a gaming platform.

🚨Dr. Beatriz Villarroel Interview With Peter Skafish for the Sol Foundation

The conversation turned from astronomy to something much stranger, and potentially historic.

Villarroel’s team, working through the VASCO Project, had already published peer reviewed evidence of artificial reflective objects in Earth orbit before Sputnik.

But she and collaborator Steven Bruehl have uncovered something else, a triangle of correlations linking transient sky events, above ground nuclear test detonations and well documented UAP sightings.

“Steven Bruehl took the samples of nuclear tests, the VASCO transients, and the UFO catalog,” Villarroel explained. “He asked whether these coincidences during events like the 1952 Washington D.C. flap were statistically connected.”

The result was a measurable correlation around 3 sigma between UFO events and nuclear tests, and similar correlations linking transients, UAPs and transients and nuclear detonations.

That may sound subtle, but statistically, a 3 sigma signal means it’s very unlikely to be random noise, and it directly contradicts the claim that these photographic transients were simply plate defects.

“If it were just plate defects, you wouldn’t see correlations appear in time with nuclear tests or UFO flaps,” she said. “This defies that hypothesis.” The idea that nuclear activity attracts non human observation has been part of UFO lore since the 1940s.

Now, for the first time, there’s a data driven bridge between the legends and empirical evidence, connecting transient light events, nuclear detonations, and UAP activity.

Skafish summed it up:

“You don’t just have a correlation between two things, you’ve got a correlation between three, and in all directions.”

Whether that means surveillance, energy resonance, or a reactive phenomenon isn’t yet clear.

But Villarroel’s work gives future scientists a map of places and times where something, perhaps watching, perhaps responding, seems to manifest when humanity tampers with atomic fire.
