Hegseth bans military from attending Princeton, Columbia, MIT, other ‘factories of military disdain’

‘What is the purpose of investing in an education that teaches our warriors to despise the very nation they swore to defend?' Secretary of War Pete Hegseth asked.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced that he has ordered the “complete and immediate cancellation” of all Department of War attendants at “elite” universities where the campus culture is openly antithetical, if not openly hostile, to the goals of the U.S. military.

Among universities cited by Hegseth were Princeton, Columbia, MIT (the Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Brown, Yale, and many “others” starting with the 2026-27 academic year.

Earlier this month, Hegseth cut the military’s ties with Harvard University, saying “We train warriors, not wokesters. Harvard, good riddance.”

“For decades, the ivy leagues and similar institutions have gorged themselves on a trust fund of American taxpayer dollars, only to become factories of anti-American resentment and military disdain,” Hegseth said in a video statement released Friday.

“They’ve taken our best and brightest — the men and women who pledge their lives to this nation — and subjected them to a curriculum of contempt,” he noted. “They’ve replaced the study of victory and pragmatic realism with the promotion of wokeness and weakness.”

“What is the purpose of investing in an education that teaches our warriors to despise the very nation they swore to defend?” he asked. “What’s the value of a degree that seeks to hollow out their warrior ethos and replace it with a creed of globalist submission?”

“This is not education, it’s indoctrination,” he declared, and “it’s a betrayal we’ll no longer tolerate.’

“We demand that senior service colleges work to sharpen our war fighters on genuine national security issues, not social justice activism. We demand curriculums grounded in the founding principles of this republic, principles that champion the enduring ideals of peace through strength and putting American interests first,” Hegseth explained.

“As a final message to our warriors,” Hegseth said, “the Ivy League faculty lounges may loathe you, the so-called elite of academia may mock your patriotism and disdain your sacrifice, but never forget that we the War Department have your back.”

Joint American-Israeli strikes against Iran took place over night, with U.S. President Donald Trump addressing both the nation and the people of Iran. Announcing the strikes to eliminate “imminent threats from the Iranian regime” which “directly endangers the United States, our troops, our bases overseas, and our allies throughout the world”, Trump said: “A short time ago, the United States Military began major combat operations in Iran”.

Iranian retaliatory strikes have been launched against Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed his people early Saturday morning stating the joint strikes with the U.S. were to remove the “existential threat”. Netanyahu said: “For 47 years, the Ayatollah regime has called out ‘Death to Israel’ and ‘Death to America.’ It has shed our blood, murdered many Americans, and massacred its own people… This murderous terror regime must not be allowed to arm itself with nuclear weapons that would enable it to threaten all of humanity”, reports The Times of Israel.

Air raid sirens sounded across Israel as Iran launched retaliatory ballistic strikes, it was stated. The Israeli Defence Force said in a series of statements of what it said were multiple Iranian “barrages”: “A short while ago, the IDF identified missiles launched from Iran toward Israel… At this time, the IAF is operating to intercept and strike threats where necessary to remove the threat.”

Additionally, the BBC reports blasts were heard in Bahrain’s Manama, the home port of the U.S. Fifth Fleet.

Woman killed, 22 injured in direct strike in Tel Aviv after siren sounded late

One woman was killed and at least 22 others were wounded in a direct strike on a residential building during a barrage late Saturday targeting Tel Aviv. One of the wounded was listed in serious condition, another in moderate condition and the rest sustained minor injuries.

Rescue teams were searching the scene, where a large crater was formed, over concerns that additional people may be trapped or injured.

For reasons that remain unclear, the siren did not provide residents with the standard minute and a half to reach a protected space, giving them less time than required, despite an early alert warning of the anticipated launch. The IDF declined to comment for now on the reported delay in activating the siren.

Earlier, paramedics reported one person in moderate condition and others with light injuries. In a prior update, two people were described as moderately wounded. Search and rescue teams were continuing to scan the area amid concerns that people may be trapped.

Vehicles caught fire and the roof of a residential building was seen burning following the impact. Emergency crews worked to extinguish the flames and search for additional casualties.

US Again Demands Iraq End Maliki Nomination, Or Else

Iraq's Coordination Framework is still putting forward Nouri al-Maliki as its candidate for prime minister, despite President Trump loudly and repeatedly demand he be withdrawn. The US had reportedly set a deadline of Friday, February 27, to end the candidacy or face unspecified repercussions. What happens next, after the US has attacked Tehran, is anyone's guess.

If that sounds familiar, it’s because the US had similarly set a "final deadline" for Maliki’s withdrawal last weekend, though that deadline passed with little visible consequence and just more US complaining about Maliki.

With just 24 hours left, the latest deadline doesn’t seem like it’s going to change anything either, with the Framework saying they don’t intend to allow the US to decide who gets to be Iraq’s prime minister.

Furthermore, the indication is that they don’t even intend to hold another meeting on the premiership until next week, well after this deadline will have already passed.

There does not appear to be any other serious candidate being put forward by any part of the Framework, which is the largest bloc in Iraq’s deeply divided parliament.

Maliki served as Prime Minister of Iraq from 2006 through 2014. President Trump has insisted he has “insane policies and ideologies” and cannot be allowed to return to office, though again there are no other serious candidates within the Framework who have come forward to replace him with.

Maliki has sought to return to office for years and though his State of Law Party only won about 6% of the seats in last year’s election, he has the support of Kurdish factions, and the largest party within the Framework, that of current Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani, has appeared to accept Maliki’s candidacy after Sudani said he doesn’t intend to serve another term.

It’s a recurring theme in Iraq that after their elections forming a coalition government takes quite some time and a lot of negotiation.
