Missile impacts reported in central Israel as Iran launches heavy retaliation

 

Over 200 missiles were launched toward Israel as the joint Israel-US campaign continued to strike targets across the Islamic regime.

 

Sirens sounded across central Israel on Saturday during an Iranian missile attack on the country, launched in response to the joint Israeli, US preemptive strike earlier that morning.

 

At least 125 missiles were fired against Israel by Iran during their first barrage, with 35 entering Israeli airspace and the rest being intercepted earlier. As a result, sirens sounded in central and northern Israel.

 

Magen David Adom reported a direct hit on a residential building in northern Israel on Saturday morning.

 

According to Fire and Rescue Services, missile shrapnel impacted on a 20-story building in Tirat Hacarmel and penetrated into the 17th floor. One person was lightly injured in the strike, Hebrew media reported.

 

Direct hits, minimal injuries

Later Saturday, the IDF said a second barrage was underway, reminding people to adhere to public safety guidelines and remain near shelters.

 

Some 15 missiles were reportedly launched toward northern and central Israel in a second barrage shortly before 4 p.m., as the IDF said it was working to neutralize the threat.

 

Just before 5 p.m., unconfirmed reports suggested a direct hit on a residential building in a city in central Israel. No injuries were reported.

 

MDA said it was treating a 17-year-old who sustained light shrapnel injuries to his lower body, as paramedics were dispatched to multiple sites of reported rocket impacts across central Israel.

Pentagon Picks OpenAI To Replace Anthropic

 

Update (2345ET): Sam Altman on Friday night announced that OpenAI and Department of War have struck a deal in which the DoW will be able to use the company's AI for military applications, and has agreed to abide by the company's red lines regarding safety (which were similar to rival Anthropic).

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it has begun “the first wave of extensive missile and drone attacks” against Israel, with reports suggesting that United States bases across the Gulf were also targeted in response to the attack on the Islamic Republic that began on the morning of February 28.

 

In a statement, the guards said that the attacks come “in response to the hostile and criminal enemy’s aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

 

Israel was first to announce the attack on Iran, with Hebrew media reporting the start of “Operation Lion’s Roar.” The U.S. Department of War followed up by announcing “Operation Epic Fury.” Iran, from its side, is reported to have codenamed its retaliatory operation “True Promise IV”.

 

Hebrew media reported that several ballistic missiles have been launched from Iran at Israel, with no immediate reports of impacts or injuries. Sirens sounded across northern and southern Israel.

Officials say the situation is "under complete control" despite damage being caused to the airport.

 

In a statement on X, The General Authority of Civil Aviation in the State of Kuwait stated, through its official spokesperson Abdullah Al-Rajhi, that a drone targeted Kuwait International Airport.

The spokesperson also confirmed that 'emergency procedures' were put into place adding that the 'safety of passengers and workers represents the utmost priority'.

During the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, last week, ChurchLeaders spoke with “UFOs and God” directors Wes and Amanda Llewellyn.

The soon-to-be released film examines today’s growing fascination with UFOs—also referred to as unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP)—and what it means for the church.

Rather than approaching the topic from a purely scientific or speculative angle, the Llewellyns say their goal is to equip Christians with biblical clarity and spiritual discernment.

 

Our discussion came shortly after former President Barack Obama told American YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen that “aliens are real, but I haven’t seen them” and as the Trump administration’s pushed to release government files relating to extraterrestrial life.

“One of the biggest problems, though, is that the church doesn’t doesn’t talk about it,” Amanda said.

“It’s a hot topic, but I think that the church feels really kind of unqualified—I think pastors feel very unqualified to talk about such things,” she said, “even though if they are really looking at the Bible and reading it plainly, there are unexplained things that happen all through the Bible.”

 

She continued, “One of those places is Genesis 6…we’re living in Genesis 6 right now and I think when you see, you know, as in the days of Noah, I think that this may play into that.”

“I’m not going to say definitively because I don’t know the mind of God,” she added, “but I do know that all of the signs are there that this is something that we do need to discuss. We do need to be biblically literate.”

“And we do need to have the vocabulary to talk about it with those unsaved friends,” said Amanda, “and give a hope and a defense mechanism and weapon through the name of Jesus Christ.”

 

Wes echoed his wife’s assessment of why the church isn’t speaking about UAPs and urged Christians not to be fearful of the “supernatural.”

“We’re trying to say, ‘Don’t be scared of the supernatural.’ We always hear people say, ‘Oh, this is crazy stuff.’ I go, ‘Yeah, but you’re a Christian.

You believe God came to earth as a man,'” he said, “‘was born of a virgin, knowing he was going to die, died for my sins, and then rose from the dead.’ We start at kind of crazy if you want to look at it.”

 

Amanda described “UFOs and God” as a “primer” that gives viewers conversational tools.

“We talk to a lot of different experts,” she said. “We have everything from a secular viewpoint to a spiritual viewpoint to a Christian viewpoint.”

“But we we try to focus on the spiritual,” Wes said. “If you want to see a documentary that proves that these things are real,” this film isn’t that. “We’re approaching it from the spiritual point of view.”

 

Wes, who has worked in film for more than 30 years (“Sid Roth’s It’s Supernatural,” “The Moment After”), shared that he initially approached the topic with skepticism.

After hearing Amanda’s personal experiences and researching the subject himself, he said he wrestled briefly with questions about how such phenomena fit within a Christian worldview.

He ultimately concluded that the existence of unexplained phenomena does not undermine the gospel. “It doesn’t matter,” he said, explaining that Christ’s death and resurrection remain foundational regardless of what else might be true.

 

ChurchLeaders asked whether the UAP that the government and others now say exist are demonic.

“It is demonic,” both directors replied.

“But they do not behave like demons,” Amanda said.

Two days later, Obama clarified on Instagram. “Since it’s gotten attention let me clarify. Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there.

But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!”

 

When asked for comment on Obama’s declaration, President Donald Trump said, “He’s not supposed to be doing that. He made a big mistake, he took it out of classified information.”

Trump then continued with a slightly stifled smirk, “I may get him out of trouble by declassifying.”

The conspiracy minded wondered whether Trump’s statement itself confirmed classified information.

Hours later, Trump posted on Truth Social that he was directing the Pentagon to identify and release government files “related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters.”

 

The Pentagon has reported hundreds of UAP cases in recent years. Twenty-one of those reports have been tagged as needing further analysis due to “anomalous characteristics.” None, officials say, demonstrate extraterrestrial activity.

Presidential commentary on UFOs didn’t begin in the age of podcasts and social media. For more than 200 years, the question of extraterrestrial life has brushed up against the Oval Office.

 

Multiple presidents have joked, speculated, investigated, promised disclosure, and occasionally claimed personal sightings of UFOS. Some have remained mysteriously silent. Others have been dragged into some serious tall-sounding tales.

Whether extraterrestrial contact has been secretly made with our government or not, it’s still fun to reflect on how much influence the Commander-in-Chiefs have had on UFO conspiracy culture throughout the years.

No verified public statement shows JFK discussing alien life.

Under his presidency, the U.S. Air Force briefed officials that in 20 years of studying 11,000+ sightings, there was no evidence that UFOs posed a threat or were extraterrestrial.

According to an urban legend, not official documentation, Nixon allegedly took comedian Jackie Gleason to Homestead Air Force Base in Florida to view alien bodies in 1973.

Carter may not have released UFO files, but he sent ‘humanity’s hello’ to anything listening in the universe. In 1977, Carter placed a message within the Voyager spacecrafts ‘Golden Records’.

Along with Carter’s message, the disks contained 116 images, 55 language greetings, natural/human sounds, and 90 minutes of music, intended as peaceful salutations to possible extraterrestrial civilizations.

 

Ronald Reagan (1981–1989)

Reagan said he witnessed a UFO during a 1974 plane flight while governor of California, a story that was corroborated by his pilot, Bill Paynter.

Reagan also flet that humanity might unite in the face of “some outside, universal threat.” He famously told the United Nations in 1987, “I occasionally think how quickly our differences worldwide would vanish if we were facing an alien threat from outside this world.”

George W. Bush also addressed UFO questions on Jimmy Kimmel Live by jokingly refusing to share information, saying “I’m not telling you nothing” when asked if he reviewed secret files.

Are we alone?

Those who have sat in the Oval Office have responded to that question in many different ways. Some have denied it, others have sidestepped it, others left it open for personal contemplation.

The US doesn’t benefit from a war with Iran in any way, but you know who does?

Facebook blocks pro-government Hungarian news weeks ahead of elections

 

The tech giant could be “punishing” the outlets over warnings about escalation, according to a local media association

Facebook has blocked the social media pages of three Hungarian media outlets, citing violations of community principles.

The move comes mere weeks before elections in the Central European nation and has been condemned by the Hungarian National Media Association, which called it an attack on press freedom.

 

The pages of Bama.hu, Szabolcs Online and Kisalföld.hu were made inaccessible as of Friday, prompting the media outlets to criticize what they called an unjustified decision in a joint statement. They also vowed to appeal the ban.

 

The affected media outlets – all part of the Mediaworks Hungary conglomerate – have been described by other local media as presenting the view of the government and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s Fidesz Party.

 

The development came ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for early April, where Fidesz faces tough competition from the pro-EU opposition Tisza Party.

 

The Hungarian National Media Association blasted the ban, insisting that the pretext for the move was flimsy. Non-compliance with the “community principles of Meta,”Facebook’s parent company, could “mean anything,” it said in a statement expressing solidarity with the affected outlets.

 

It also said that the tech giant could just be “punishing right-wing news portals for publishing news about the threat of war.”Budapest has been one of the staunchest opponents of the EU policy on Ukraine and Russia. Hungary has argued in particular that the bloc’s increased engagement in the conflict between Moscow and Kiev risks dangerous escalation.

 

Later on Friday, Meta told a Hungarian Telex media outlet that the pages were “erroneously restricted and had been restored.” However, two out of three of the affected accounts remain inaccessible as of Saturday evening.

 

Orban has previously accused Brussels of teaming up with Kiev and declaring “war” on Hungary in a bid to oust him from power, including through influencing the upcoming elections.

 

Similar allegations were made in connection to the 2024 elections in Romania, where the Constitutional Court annulled the first-round results after the nation’s intelligence alleged that anti-establishment candidate Calin Georgescu’s lead had resulted from foreign meddling.

On June 8, 1967 while patrolling in international waters 2 in the Eastern Mediter-

ranean Sea, USS Liberty (AGTR-5) was savagely attacked without warning or justifica-

tion by air and naval forces of the state of Israel. 3

Throughout the remainder of the day prior to the attack, Israeli reconnaissance air-

craft regularly flew out to USS Liberty’s position and orbited the ship before returning to

their bases in Israel. A total of no fewer than eight (8) such flights were made. 13

At approximately 1050 hours, the naval observer from the early morning reconnais-

sance flight arrived at Israeli air force HQ and sat down with the air-naval liaison officer

there. The two officers consulted Janes’ Fighting Ships and learned that the ship re-

ported earlier in the day was USS Liberty, a United States Navy technical research

ship. 14

From 0900 ho urs on June 8, 1967, until the time of the attack five hours later, USS

Liberty maintained a speed of approximately five knots and a generally westerly-

northwesterly course. 15

At 1400 hours, while approximately 17 miles off the Gaza coast, USS Liberty’s crew

observed three surface radar contacts closing with their position at high speed. A few

moments later, the bridge radar crew observed high speed aircraft passing over the sur-

face returns on the same heading. 16

Within a few short moments, and without any warning, Israeli fighter aircraft

launched a rocket attack on USS Liberty. The aircraft made repeated firing passes, at-

tacking USS Liberty with rockets and their internal cannons. After the first flight of fighter

aircraft had exhausted their ordnance, subsequent flights of Israeli fighter aircraft con-

tinued to prosecute the attack with rockets, cannon fire, and napalm. 17

During the air attack, USS Liberty’s crew had difficulty contacting Sixth Fleet to re-

quest assistance due to intense communications jamming 18

The initial targets on the ship were the command bridge, communications antennas,

and the four .50 caliber machine guns, placed on the ship to repel boarders. 19

After the Israeli fighter aircraft completed their attacks, three Israeli torpedo boats

arrived and began a surface attack about 35 minutes after the start of the air attack. The

torpedo boats launched a total of five torpedoes, one of which struck the side of USS

Liberty, opposite the ship’s research spaces. 20 Twenty-six Americans, in addition to the

eight who had been killed in the earlier air attacks, were killed as a result of this e xplo-

sion.

Following their torpedo attack, the torpedo boats moved up and down the length of

the ship (both the port and starboard sides), continuing their attack, raking the ship with

cannon and machine gun fire. 21 In Malta, crewmen were later assigned the task of

counting all of the holes in the ship that were the size of a man’s hand or larger. They

found a total of 861 such holes, in addition to “thousands” of .50 caliber machine gun

holes.

Survivors report that the torpedo boat crews swept the decks of USS Liberty with

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei sat down with CBS News for an exclusive interview, hours after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared the company a supply chain risk to national security, which restricts military contractors from doing business with the AI giant. Amodei called the move "retaliatory and punitive," and he said Anthropic sought to draw "red lines" in the government's use of its technology because "we believe that crossing those lines is contrary to American values, and we wanted to stand up for American values."
