Relatives of the dead stormed out of a meeting with Ethiopian Airlines on Thursday, decrying a lack of transparency, while others made the painful trip to the crash scene.

"I can't find you! Where are you?" said one Ethiopian woman, draped in traditional white mourning shawl, as she held a framed portrait of her brother in the charred and debris-strewn field.

Nations around the world, including an initially reluctant United States, have suspended the 371 MAX models in operation, though airlines are largely coping by switching planes.

Another nearly 5,000 MAXs are on order, meaning the financial implications are huge for the industry.

PARIS INVESTIGATION

After an apparent tussle over where the investigation should be held, the flight data and cockpit voice recorders arrived in Paris and were handed over to France's Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) agency.

A BEA spokesman said he did not know what condition the black boxes were in. "First we will try to read the data," he said, adding that the first analyses could take between half a day and several days.

The investigation has added urgency since the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Wednesday grounded the 737 MAX aircraft citing satellite data and evidence from the scene indicating some similarities and "the possibility of a shared cause" with October's crash in Indonesia that killed 189 people.

Though it maintains the planes are safe, Boeing has supported the FAA move. Its stock has fallen about 11 percent since the crash, wiping nearly $26 billion off its market value.

In 2015 Weissmann was selected to run the Department of Justice’s criminal fraud section and was later handpicked by Mueller to join the ongoing Special Counsel’s Office investigation into the alleged obstruction and alleged collusion between Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and Russia.

Weissmann mainly oversaw the case against Paul Manafort, who has now been sentenced to seven and half years in prison for tax and bank fraud.

According to NPR Weissmann is leaving to teach at New York University and work on a variety of public service projects. Apparently, “this includes his longstanding interest in preventing wrongful convictions by shoring up forensic science standards used in courts,” the sources told NPR.

Special Counsel spokesman Peter Carr could not be immediately reached for comment.

Weissmann, however, has not been without criticism. This reporter has written numerous stories on Weissmann’s tactics.

For example, in 1997 Weissmann was officially reprimanded by a judge in the Eastern District of New York for withholding evidence. Weissmann was also reported to the Department of Justice Inspector General and Senate Judiciary Committee in 2016 for alleged “corrupt legal practices,” according to documents and the attorney involved in a whistleblower case.

Civil rights and Criminal Defense Attorney David Schoen told this reporter in earlier interviews that Weissmann needs to be investigated for alleged past misconduct in court cases.

Defense Attorney Sidney Powell, has called Weissmann the poster boy for prosecutorial misconduct. She said Mueller handpicked Weissmann for lead prosecutor in the Special Counsel’s office because of his past tactics. For example, she said, in the Enron Task Force case where Weissmann was also appointed by Mueller.

She said Weissmann prosecuted Arthur Anderson, then CEO of the accounting company targeted by Weissmann. Weissmann said Anderson was allegedly destroying evidence but Powell said the charge was not real. She told this reporter that Weissmann combined two separate statutes to make a “crime out of something that wasn’t.”

5 dead in Berkshire County house fire

SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Five people were found dead inside a Berkshire County home on Wednesday morning after a fire, the Berkshire County District Attorney's office said.

Taliban fighters have launched attacks on several army posts in western Afghanistan, killing at least 13 Afghan soldiers, officials say.

A homeless man arrested on Monday for stabbing a San Jose woman to death last month was an undocumented immigrant who had been ordered detained by federal authorities nine times, officials said Tuesday. But the man, who had multiple convictions for misdemeanor and felony offenses, was released from the Santa Clara County jail twice in the months before the killing.

On Tuesday, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo issued a sharply-worded criticism of the county’s policy of not honoring federal immigration detention orders at the jail. Liccardo said the policy “undermines public safety, and violates common sense.”

San Jose Police Chief Eddie Garcia joined with Liccardo and Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith in criticizing the policy Tuesday. At a press conference, Garcia said he was well aware of the ways in which the case probably would be politicized amid a heated national debate over immigration and local “sanctuary” policies meant to protect undocumented residents from federal authorities.

But, Garcia said, there was a distinction between protecting and embracing “otherwise law-abiding undocumented residents” and policies that he said “shield admitted gangsters or violent criminals.”

Can confirm it was horrible. A family member of mine was forced to abandon his truck on the side of the highway and had to take a bus to a nearby facility where he estimates there are about 500+ people were being held overnight. This is in one facility. Last I heard from him was that he was still there at about 7am this morning with no real estimate on when they will be able to return to their vehicles and go home.

YouTube Demonetized My Entire Channel — and You Won’t Believe Why

I was getting ready for my radio show on Monday when I spotted an announcement on the AskDrBrown YouTube channel. The entire channel — now, almost 1,600 videos — has been demonetized.

By now, I’ve been used to the constantly changing standards of YouTube, not to mention the non-existent customer service.

I’m talking about YouTube approving a video one day that speaks out against abortion while telling me the next day that a generic video where I answer caller questions about the Bible is not suitable for most advertisers.

As I’ve written before, if it wasn’t so ridiculous, it would be funny.

And, to emphasize this once again, while YouTube/Google is a private company, they are obligated to abide by their guidelines and to enforce them in an even-handed and fair way. This they have not done.

The House on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution calling on special counsel Robert Mueller to release his final report to the public once it's out. Lawmakers voted 420-0 in favor of the measure from House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y. Four Republicans voted "present" on the resolution: Reps. Justin Amash of Michigan, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Thomas Massie of Kentucky, and Paul Gosar of Arizona. The vote is a clear sign from Congress that members of both parties want to see Mueller's results at the end of what has almost been a two-year investigation. Mueller has been investigating President Trump's alleged collusion with Russia to win the 2016 election.

Democrats and Republicans have been pushing for the release of Mueller's report for different reasons. Democrats fear the report may show some wrongdoing by Trump that remains out of the public eye because of the Justice Department's policy of not indicting a sitting president. "If it basically says, 'Hey, we would have indicted Donald Trump for these offenses but for the fact that there's a policy memo saying we can't,' then I think Congress has to really look at these issues and decide what to do with whatever offenses the Robert Mueller investigation reveals," said Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., this month.

Republicans are out to make sure they understand exactly how Mueller operated in his investigation against Trump. "Congress and the American people have a right to know how their government conducts business and spends tax dollars," Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said in January. "Special counsel investigations are no different." The resolution calls on Mueller to release his final report to the public, and also calls on the Justice Department to release it to Congress. A transcript from former FBI agent Peter Strzok’s private June 2018 testimony before a joint congressional task force was released by the top House Judiciary Committee Republican on Thursday. Strzok, a lead investigator in the investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's unauthorized private email server, appeared before the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees as part of their investigation into potential bias in the Justice Department and FBI. “As I have said before, I believe the American people deserve transparency, and deserve to know what transpired in the highest echelons of the FBI during that tumultuous time for the bureau,” House Judiciary Committee ranking member Doug Collins, R-Ga., said as he announced the release of the Strzok transcript.

The private testimony with Strzok took place weeks before he appeared in a dramatic public hearing in July 2018. Last week Collins began to release transcripts of private testimony provided to the joint task force when he requested Justice Department official Bruce Ohr’s testimony from August 2018 be put on the record. Ohr acted as an unofficial back channel between the FBI and the author of the so-called Trump dossier. Strzok, who also worked on special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, attracted scrutiny after it was revealed in 2017 that he and FBI lawyer Lisa Page were involved in an extramarital affair and exchanged text messages critical of President Trump. Strzok was removed from the Mueller inquiry upon the discovery of the text messages and was fired in August 2018. Page also testified before the task force last year, and the transcripts of her testimony were released by Collins on Tuesday. She resigned from her post in May 2018. Mueller is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election, and whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Kremlin.
