– what happened to Anonymous?

The answer to this should be obvious.

Anonymous had what 4chan now lacks

The power to wage vigilante hacks,

And publicize corruption where it rots,

And force truth into sleepy public thoughts.

Has Anonymous now disappeared?

Once legendary, now no longer feared?

Once sparking protests– is that fuel now spent?

The lulz are gone, gone the seething dissent?

What do you think this disappearance means?

Is speech still free in internet machines?

 

Well, look at what the chans have now become;

Examine what swirls in the daily scrum.

Ask yourself– does it seem really real?

Does it show what actual people feel?

Does it seem organic and not fake?

How much repetition does it take–

How much frenzied vile monotony–

Until we guess that internets ain't free?

 

Ask yourself– if you sought to control

The media, and hence the public soul,

And something like 4chan was swelling up

And spilling truth from propaganda's cup

Would you let it go its merry way?

Or would you lock control down in some way?

And if you locked control down would you try

To do it in a way to fool the eye?

To make it seem like free speech carried on

Even though, in fact, it were quite gone?

For if you shut down free speech openly

The public would respond suspiciously;

But if you hid control beneath a ruse

What you once feared becomes a tool to use.

So that, controlling, you have it both ways–

Enslaving dissent, dictating what it says!

 

Anonymous was infiltrated by

The famously mendacious FBI

Whose antics as shown by COINTELPRO

Target dissent, as I'm sure most people know.

Do we think that having sunk its claws

Into Anonymous, with lies and laws,

Intelligence and other agencies

Would let speech stay as free as it may please?

 

But it's not like we have far to look

To see by what means free speech got the hook;

The image made by chans' mirrors and smoke

Is so stupid it seems to be a joke!

How laughable must a deception be

Before the world opens its eyes to see?

The simple fact– as stark as winter dawn–

Is that Anonymous, busted, now gone

Was replaced by swarms of– wait for it–

Virulent nazis spewing nazi shit!

We would have to laugh if we were told

This outcome in the 4chan days of old.

So formulaic, politically cliched–

And yet this very game is being played!

How can a joke as stupid as this one

Be used to strangle free speech, and to stun

The helpless mainstream public with the fear

That an internet fourth reich draws near?

But if that preposterousness is not

Enough to spark the understanding thought,

Consider, even stupider to tell,

The arch absurdity of the β€œincel”!

No, it's not enough that nazis rose

To cloak and choke the chans in nazi throes–

No, these scary nazis all the same

Must wallow in their helplessness and shame!

The β€œincel” is not just a defeated man–

But a powerful extremist with a plan!

No matter that these two things contradict–

We'll just keep hammering at them till they stick!

Now ask yourself– does the technology

Exist to make the unfree chans seem free?

Think data, think vault 7, and AI–

And tech's pervasive all-surveilling eye.

And look at the corruption that's been shown

That yet to public truth remains unknown.

Understand– the chans are herded tight

And nothing unpermitted sees the light,

The MSM and Chatbot Chans converge

To regulate how much truth can emerge.

When swarming nazi posts fill up the place

Then actual dissent can't get the space

To breathe, develop, organize, or live;

The chatbots force the nazi narrative.

 

But it's not just β€œincel nazi” swarms

Faking behind outward human forms–

The chatbots aim to keep all things in hand,

And narrative locked in to what's been planned.

One objective that's not hard to see

Is unrelenting negativity.

Demoralizing, soul-hollowing tropes,

Make one bot vicious, while another mopes;

Here's a bot whose will to live is gone,

While here a chorus eggs fatality on…

Bots promoting suicide to us–

Think about what pure evil that is!

And every possible way to divide

Is used to keep the chaos multiplied.

β€œHate threads” for all known identities

Create an atmosphere like a disease.

AI apes the worst of our past posts

And pours them out in hordes of hateful ghosts.

And so the chans, within, drive us away

While on the outside, dictate what β€œwe” say.

The public, for example, thinks the chans

Supported Trump due to his β€œnazi plans”;

But on the chans much more than half the spew

Hates Trump because he fails to hate β€œthe Jew”!

While on the other side, the pro-Trump bots

Are emulated utter idiots!

 

By now it should be more than obvious–

Free speech ended with Anonymous.

The Chatbot Chans system is locked in place,

The zombie Anon leers from a stolen face.

The truth lies right here, waiting to be seen;

A monster stirs to life in the machine…

 

And remember also, this other thing I tell:

Prepare to stare into the mouth of Hell.

Baltimore Flush With Federal Cash, Can’t Tell Where It All Went

 

Adding to the barrage of criticism of prominent Baltimore Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), President Donald Trump recently said β€œbillions and billions” in federal assistance to the city has been β€œstolen.”

 

Plenty of federal dollars flow to Baltimore every year, but what happens to all of it is hard to determine since the city has long had a problem tracking its dollars.

 

β€œWhat Elijah Cummings should do is he should take his [House] Oversight Committee, bring them down to Baltimore, and invest all of them and really study the billions and billions of dollars that’s been stolen,” Trump told reporters upon his departure from the White House on July 30.

 

He suggested the same should be done for β€œother Democratic-run cities.”

Plenty of Cash

 

In 2018 alone, $16 billion dollars in federal money went to Cummings’s 7th District, said Lynne Patton, Housing and Urban Development’s regional director, during a July 30 Fox News interview. The district includes west Baltimore, parts of the city’s north and downtown, as well as some surrounding towns and suburbs.

 

A large chunk of that sum (over $7 billion) went to Medicaid and CHIP, subsidized healthcare for children and the poor, according to USAspending.gov. Although the funds went to an agency based in Cummings’ district, it appears it’s the allocation for the entire state. About 20 percent of the money would have been slated for the city, based on 2014 Medicaid enrollment data (pdf).

 

Excluding Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and disability payments, the city received about $5 billion in federal funds in 2018.

Bad Accounts

 

The city government has long failed to account for how it spends state and federal grant money.

 

The city’s 2014 audit revealed bookkeeping so deficient, it wasn’t possible to track what $40 million in grants from federal, state, and other sources was spent on.

 

The 2018 audit found similar problems: β€œGrant money coming into government coffers is not balancing out with what city agencies are spending,” as the Baltimore Sun put it.

 

Baltimore auditor Audrey Askew, who came a year earlier from a private auditing firm, warned the city could lose access to grants, about a sixth of its $2.8 billion budget.

 

A year later, however, Askew abruptly resigned, offering only a cryptic explanation.

 

”Baltimore will never know why, but they know why,” she told BaltimoreBrew, declining to specify who β€œthey” were.

 

β€œI am a person of integrity, and I am honest,” she said. β€œAnything that alters that, I don’t do.”

What Does a Debt Jubilee Look Like Today?

 

Our financial system is much different than ancient Isreal and we need a different approach as the β€œaverage Joe” can invest in P2P loans and we live in an easy credit society. The middle class didn’t exist in their society as we know it today.

 

If Wall Street begins forgiving debts, it’d be safe to assume there would be a strong negative impact on the market in the short term and long term. Investors are going to sell because they fear the companies migth go bankrupt. Uncertainty is one thing markets don’t like.

 

And if a government-mandated debt jubilee gets enforced, how do they decide who has their debts forgiven?:

 

Borrowers with a high debt-to-income ratio

Residents of particular states or territories

Taxpayers who live below the poverty line

Specific types of debt (i.e. Puerto Rican government debt, auto loans, student loans, etc.)

It could be all four of these groups, a combination, or only one.

 

Those are all decisions that the policy wonks, politicians, and lobbyists would have to make. While there would be some short term stock market volatility, I believe the markets would rebound.

 

Of course, the debt forgiveness would rapidly expand the government debt.

 

Different Debt Jubilee Options

 

We don’t know how a debt jubilee will look like because we’re not there yet. There are too many variables.

 

However, we do have an idea of what arrows are in the central banks’ quivers:

 

Call a bank holiday and take 25% of 401k assets

Print more money…a la quantitative easing

Mandatory debt forgiveness (unpaid loans and bonds are written off with no further payment required)

Once again, the powers that be can decide to pursue one, two, or all three of these options. Obviously, savers and the wealthy would be punished the most as their bank account are smaller, worth less if the currency devalues, or the stock market tumbles because investors lose confidence because they don’t know if more assets will be seized or lending companies can remain solvent now that they are receiving far fewer interest payments.

 

There will be lots of short term financial volatility in the investment markets and even the employment sector as business models change and private citizens adjust to new amount of disposable income.

Salvini Victory: NGO Ship Gives Up on Landing Migrants in Italy, Heads to Malta

 

The German-based NGO Sea-Eye have announced they will not be challenging the closed port policy of Lega leader Matteo Salvini, opting instead to head for Malta to drop off migrants.

Our mobile devices operate through microwave radiation, and that can be deadly. You should NEVER talk more than a few minutes on any mobile device with the device pressed against your ear. And guess what? Bluetooth wireless earbuds also use microwave radiation to transmit the signal, and you should never use those either.

 

A personal friend of mine, Doris, told me the story of what happened to her husband and brother. The two of them were great friends, and would talk to each other on their rides into work on separate trains in the morning and again in the evening coming home. Doris’ husband held the phone on the left side of his head, and her brother held his on the right side. After a few years of that, Doris’ husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor on the left side of his head and died. Fox Corp to take over lender Credible Labs for $397 million

 

U.S.-based consumer lender Credible Labs Inc (CRD.AX) said on Monday it had agreed to be bought out by broadcaster Fox Corp (FOXA.O) for about A$585 million ($397 million).

 

Under the terms of the deal, Credible Labs, listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, said its shareholders will receive A$2.21 in cash per CHESS depository interest (CDI), which represents A$55.25 per share of common stock in Credible.

 

The offer of A$2.21 per CDI represents a premium of 7% to its last close of A$2.06 on August 2.

 

Credible provides and refinances student and personal loans, supplying information that allows individuals to compare and choose between different pre-qualified rates and options.

 

Fox CEO and Executive Chairman Lachlan Murdoch said in a separate announcement that the acquisition has β€œtremendous synergy” with FOX Business and FOX Television Stations, as Credible would benefit from access to the broadcast and entertainment giant’s huge audience.

 

As part of the agreement, Credible founder and Chief Executive Officer Stephen Dash will exchange shares equal to one-third of Credible’s outstanding common stock into units of a newly created Fox subsidiary, Credible said.

 

Credible’s board said it unanimously backs the proposal to shareholders, which is subject to certain approvals from the ASX.

NASHVILLE β€” Police and fire officials were on the scene of a gasoline explosion in a hotel room next to Nashville’s BNA international airport Sunday evening.

 

The HomeTowne Studios, Nashville Airport hotel was evacuated. The call came in around 3:30 p.m. local time.

 

WZTV reported: Witnesses say there was a loud boom and saw a man running down the hall who was burned.

 

Four people went to the hospital, including one person received third degree burns and is in critical injuries. They say a couple gallons of gasoline exploded in the room.

NSA Whistleblower Edward Snowden Says Facebook, Instagram Spying On Customers – Wants To Help Combat Surveillance

 

National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden wants to fight back against corporate surveillance by Instagram and its parent company Facebook, as well as YouTube, which is owned by Google.

 

In a tweet rant posted on Twitter, Snowden expressed that both social media giants owned by Mark Zuckerberg were involved in spying on their users, as well as YouTube. Snowden also announced that he has created new accounts on the platforms and that he will explain how the sites spy on users. He added, that he would β€œexplain methods to limit how much they know about you,” if you choose to use them.

 

Earlier in the day Snowden announced a new forthcoming memoir called Permanent Record, due out in September, which will tell all his secrets. Snowden has also released a YouTube ad for the book.

 

Snowden quickly rose to prominence in 2013, after leaking classified information on widespread warrantless NSA surveillance programs like XKeyscore and PRISM to The Guardian and The Washington Post. In fact, the first Snowden leak was a FISC order issued to Verizon under Section 702 that required the company to turn over all of its calling records to the NSA.

 

FISA was enacted in 1978 as a response to illegal domestic surveillance operations revealed by two Senate committees in the 1970s, including President Richard Nixon’s use of federal intelligence agencies to monitor his political opponents. It was brought into law β€œto authorize electronic surveillance to obtain foreign intelligence information.”

 

The law requires the government to obtain a warrant from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court before setting up an electronic or physical wiretap targeted at foreigners and foreign agents.

 

Congress amended FISA in 2007 to let the government wiretap communications that either begin or end outside the United States jurisdiction without Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) approval; in a stronger 2008 overhaul, they further limited that power to non-U.S. persons. The last reauthorization of the Act was in 2012, which set the current expiration date of Dec. 31, 2017.

With all the attention paid to Facebook in recent weeks over β€˜data breaches’ and privacy violations (even though what happened with Cambridge Analytica is part of their standard business model), it’s easy to forget that there are four other Big Tech corporations collecting just as much β€” if not more β€” of our personal info. Google, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft are all central players in β€œsurveillance capitalism” and prey on our data. New reports suggest that Google may actually harvest ten times as much as Facebook.

 

Curious about just how much of his data Google had, web developer Dylan Curran says he downloaded his Google data file, which is offered by the company in a hub called β€œMy Account.” This hub was created in 2015, along with a tool called β€œMy Activity.” The report issued is similar to the one Facebook delivers to its users upon request. Whether or not these reports are comprehensive is still up in the air, but Curran says his was 5.5 GB, which is almost ten times larger than the one Facebook offered him. The amount and type of data in his file, Mr. Curran says, suggests Google is not only constantly tracking our online movements but may also be monitoring our physical locations.

 

Curran’s Google report contained an incredible amount documentation on his web activity, going back over a decade. But perhaps more importantly, Google had also been tracking his real-life movements via his smartphone device or tablet. This included fairly random places he’d frequented, many of the foreign countries and cities he visited, the bars and restaurants he went to while in these countries, the amount of time he spent there, and even the path he took to get there and back.

 

This, of course, is not new. It has been well-known for some time that Google silently tracks you everywhere you go and creates a map of your physical movements through its Location History feature. You can deactivate it by going to your timeline and adjusting the preferences.

 

Another Google user downloaded his file and discovered the company had been archiving his data even when he browsed in Incognito mode, a setting that advertises itself as one that does not save browsing history.

 

Like Facebook, Google gathers your info for sale to 3rd-party advertisers, including your name, email address, telephone number, credit card, specific ways you use Google’s services, your mode of interaction with any website that uses Google technology (such as AdWords), your device, and your search queries. And if you don’t enter your account and make adjustments, pretty much anything you do online while deploying a Google tool is tracked. Google’s policy states:

 

β€œIf other users already have your email, or other information that identifies you, we may show them your publicly visible Google Profile information, such as your name and photo.”

 

But much of the location data stems from the use of Google apps like Maps or Now, which broadcast your location. If you want to stop this information from being shared, you have to go into your account settings and make adjustments.

Atomsk (novel)

Atomsk, first published in 1949, is a Cold War spy novel by "Carmichael Smith", one of several pseudonyms used by Paul Linebarger, who wrote fiction most prolifically as Cordwainer Smith. Written two years after Winston Churchill's Sinews of Peace address, Atomsk is the first espionage novel of the Cold War, inaugurating a genre exemplified by writers such as Ian Fleming and John Le CarrΓ©.[1][2]

 

Linebarger's third published novel, it has long been out of print. Paper copies regularly command figures in the hundreds of U.S. dollars in the second-hand market, even though it is also available as an inexpensive e-book.[3]

 

As well as drawing on Linebarger's own expertise in the field of psychological warfare, it is a study of the personality of an U.S. operative (Major Michael Dugan) who has little in common with James Bond except his extreme resourcefulness under cover and in danger. A man of many identities who sees himself to some extent as a blank sheet, he goes from calling himself "Comrade Nobody" to saying "I'm anybody". The novel also has an underlying, albeit devious and ambiguous, message of peace. As one character says, learning to like people is "the only way to win wars, or even better, to get out of them."
