San Francisco’s dangerous new DA

In terms of major policy shifts, the city of San Francisco has served as a political torchbearer of sorts for California — and at times, the nation. Now, with the city’s new, Bernie Sanders-endorsed district attorney, Americans across the nation should be concerned about how a radical shift in prosecuting for the Golden City could have immediate national implications.

Within 48 hours of being sworn in on Jan. 8, San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin fired seven veteran attorneys, including several who were responsible for managing critical criminal units such as homicide, gang, and general felony.

As a former San Francisco assistant district attorney, I know this isn’t just a typical case of administrative shake-up. Rather, it is a dangerous and disruptive move that does a grave disservice to victims and the community.

The institutional knowledge possessed by someone like Ana Gonzalez, who headed the city’s gang unit, is irreplaceable. Criminal organizations and their operations are often very complex, especially in a metropolitan area such as San Francisco. Without prosecutors who have a deep understanding of the various syndicates and the players within them, lawful prosecution of crimes becomes tremendously more difficult, allowing real criminals to walk free.

Assistant District Attorney Mike Swart, who was also among those fired, was recently honored by the Commission on the Status of Women of the City & County of San Francisco for successfully bringing to justice the killer of Pearla Ann Louis, who was violently murdered and stuffed into a suitcase.

Some have pointed to Boudin’s lack of experience as an excuse for his reckless actions — he has never actually prosecuted a case. The truth, though, is far more sinister.

On top of quickly dismantling the violent crime division of his office, Boudin seeks to end the prosecution of what he deems “quality of life crimes,” including public camping, offering or soliciting sex, public urination, and blocking a sidewalk. Instead of handcuffing criminals, Boudin is handcuffing the prosecutorial process and Lady Justice herself.

These firings weren’t based on any incompetency within the department; they were just a transparent effort to cripple the department’s prosecutorial ability. Boudin is advancing a radical ideology that’s focused on completely redesigning the city’s — and the nation’s — criminal justice system.

This dangerous reality is also being peddled by a new brand of Bernie Sanders-endorsed Democrats across the country. And, worse yet, the ideology is seemingly inspired by American communist revolutionaries who gained notoriety during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

For Boudin, the ties that bind him to the violent leftist movement of the last century couldn’t be closer.

His adoptive parents are none other than Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, the notorious leaders of the communist-driven domestic terrorist group Weather Underground. Ayers was involved in the bombings of a New York police station, the U.S. Capitol, and the Pentagon in the early ’70s.

As a young adult pursuing a career in law, Boudin didn’t abandon the radical ideology of his upbringing; he embraced it by moving to Venezuela. Boudin served as a translator for Hugo Chavez, the communist dictator who dismantled the nation’s democracy and set the country on the path to its current state of socialism-induced economic collapse.

Now, as a Yale-educated attorney, Boudin has inexplicably found himself believing that he himself is the victim of a broken criminal justice system. As a result, he’s committed to radically transforming that system.

Of course, if this was just this one city’s district attorney with a wild, made-for-Netflix story, it probably wouldn’t be worth noting. But it’s much more than. This is exactly the kind of candidate Bernie Sanders — who has his own checkered past supporting communist dictators abroad — has been championing all over the country.

In 2018, one of Bernie’s most high-profile endorsements was of Andrew Gillum, the Democrat candidate for Governor of Florida. Bernie’s support propelled Gillum to a major upset in the Democratic primary. Gillum, who campaigned frequently alongside Sanders, signed the “Freedom Pledge” by a radical group whose extended statement on racial injustice calls for defunding prisons and police and proclaims “police were never meant to protect and serve me and you.” (Gillum has denied embracing its full agenda.)

Since losing the Democratic presidential nomination to Hillary Clinton in 2016, Bernie Sanders has waged a proxy war in Democratic primaries across the nation to nurture his radical agenda. Now Bernie is his own champion on the campaign trail. He is also, arguably, today’s frontrunner for the Democratic nomination. That should give every American pause.

Americans who think Bernie Sanders and could never implement the policies of his comrades in California and around the country at the federal level are wrong. They came less than half a percentage point away from victory in Florida and Georgia last cycle.

As President Reagan famously said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” He was right, because the road to communism is paved by the apathy of free people.

For criminals, actions should have consequences. That will also be true in 2020 at the ballot box when voters are provided a choice between protecting law and order or protecting criminals.

Lindsey Graham Unloads On Pelosi: She ‘May Pray Privately, But She’s Orchestrated The Trial Of Holy Hell’

Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham let loose Sunday on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, saying that she had “orchestrated the trial of holy hell” against President Donald Trump.

Graham sat down with “Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace to discuss the upcoming impeachment trial and the possibility that witnesses would be called, and the topic of conversation turned to Speaker Pelosi.

Wallace began the segment by asking Graham about plans for the Senate trial, noting comments from several Republicans who had voiced the desire to get through it as quickly as possible. “How do you respond to the Democratic impeachment managers who say this is just a rush to get this over with?” he asked. Graham immediately turned the argument on Speaker Pelosi, saying that he liked her but that she was not doing right by the president. “I like Nancy Pelosi. I have known her for years. She is a very religious person,” Graham said. “When it comes to Donald Trump, Nancy Pelosi may pray privately, but she’s orchestrated the trial of holy hell.”

Graham then argued that from day one, Democrats had hit President Trump with one thing after another. “You took 48 days to impeach this president,” he said. “You did not allow him to call any witnesses. He could not have a lawyer present during the House Intel Committee. This has been a partisan railroad job. And you’re asking for fairness in the Senate? You violated every norm of what we do.”

Graham concluded by reminding Wallace that he had been the one who wanted former special counsel Robert Mueller to be allowed to do his job and had trusted him to do so in a fair manner. BERKELEY (CBS SF) — The University of California at Berkeley’s executive director of financial planning and analysis was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of a misdemeanor charge of possessing child pornography, police said.

Jon Bain-Chekal, 49, was released from Berkeley’s jail later on Thursday, which is standard protocol for misdemeanor offenses, according to police.

The investigation into Bain-Chekal began after the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip about child pornography from an online account, according to Berkeley police spokesman Officer Byron White.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Concord Police Department and members from Contra Costa County’s District Attorney’s Office and sheriff’s office assisted in the investigation.

White said the online account was created and accessed from Bain-Chekal’s residence and work.

He said a search warrant on the online account revealed additional images of child pornography and additional search warrants were served at Bain-Chekal’s residence and work.

White said child pornography images were recovered from a laptop during the search warrant and when Bain-Chekal was interviewed he admitted to viewing and possessing child pornography.

UC Berkeley’s website lists Bain-Chekal as being the executive director of the university’s financial planning and analysis.

His team is responsible for managing the Berkeley campus’s budgetary resources in support of instruction, research and public service, according to the university website.

A UC Berkeley spokeswoman said, “The campus is in the process of putting Jon Bain-Chekal on administrative investigatory leave. As this is an ongoing investigation, we cannot provide additional information at this time.”

President Donald Trump criticized the city of Flint’s use of emergency state funding allocated to address its devastating drinking water crisis.

Trump retweeted a story by The Daily Caller, a conservative news organization co-founded by Fox News host Tucker Carlson, that examines how nearly $390 million was spent since Republican Gov. Rick Snyder declared a state of emergency in 2016. Regular state audits of the funds, dedicated to ongoing health and safety issues caused by elevated levels of lead in Flint’s drinking water, found the money has been used properly, though Trump appeared to indicate the state funds were misused in his Jan. 16 tweet.

The Daily Caller headline focused on a federally-funded program that gives people exposed to contaminated Flint water $25 for enrolling in a registry connecting them to services and programs. Trump tweeted “this is a total disgrace."

Kurt Weiss, a spokesperson for the State Budget Office, said the Snyder administration sought to improve conditions in Flint as a whole in addition to preventing lead from leaching into the city’s water system.

“Obviously, the water crisis had an impact on the city’s ability to attract business, it hurt their economy,” Weiss said. “There were other fallout effects other than just the water crisis itself and the health crisis that it created. So they took a broad look at how do we help fund it.”

Funds were allocated to support economic development, nutritional initiatives and early childhood education programs in addition to reconnecting Flint’s water supply to the Detroit Water and Sewer Department and replacing service lines.

It was meant to cause an apoplectic fervour, it was meant to make us who desire peace, lose our minds in indignation. And therefore, that is exactly what we should not do.

In order to assess such situations, we cannot lose sight of the whole picture, and righteous indignation unfortunately causes the opposite to occur.
