Missouri Man Sentenced to 19 Years for Attempting to Provide Material Support to ISIS

 

A Columbia, Missouri, man was sentenced to 236 months in prison in federal court today for his role in making preparations to launch a terrorist attack with persons he believed were members of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), but who were actually undercover law enforcement employees, announced Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers and U.S. Attorney Timothy A. Garrison for the Western District of Missouri.

 

Robert Lorenzo Hester Jr., 28, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays to 236 months in federal prison without parole. The court also sentenced Hester to a lifetime of supervised release following incarceration.

 

Hester pleaded guilty on Sept. 24, 2019, to attempting to provide material support to ISIS from October 2016 to Feb. 17, 2017, knowing that it was a designated foreign terrorist organization that engages in terrorist activity. Hester actively attempted to plot a mass casualty attack with others that he believed were acting on behalf of ISIS. Hester drew the attention of law enforcement through advocating violence on social media, and when contacted by undercover officers, he immediately showed that he wanted action in addition to words. Law enforcement engaged Hester to see if he was truly committed to an act of terrorism, and his responses left no doubt that he was….

POTUS was ostensibly addressing the American ABC news coverage. Note that the Australian ABC took Trump to task the last time Trump "accidentally" tweeted at them when he seemed to be addressing America's ABC.

Corona Virus

SARS-COV-2 was bioengineered by an international cohort of scientists funded by the World Bank to minimize casualties within a member-nation were an avoidable natural catastrophe detected early enough.

Planning and iterative development of a controlled minimal-risk bioweapon began in 2010. SETI@home hibernation

On March 31, the volunteer computing part of SETI@home will stop distributing work and will go into hibernation.

 

We're doing this for two reasons:

 

1) Scientifically, we're at the point of diminishing returns; basically, we've analyzed all the data we need for now.

 

2) It's a lot of work for us to manage the distributed processing of data. We need to focus on completing the back-end analysis of the results we already have, and writing this up in a scientific journal paper.

 

However, SETI@home is not disappearing. The web site and the message boards will continue to operate. We hope that other UC Berkeley astronomers will find uses for the huge computing capabilities of SETI@home for SETI or related areas like cosmology and pulsar research. If this happens, SETI@home will start distributing work again. We'll keep you posted about this.

 

If you're currently running SETI@home on your computer, we encourage you to attach to other BOINC-based projects as well. Or use Science United and sign up to do astronomy. You can stay attached to SETI@home, of course, but you won't get any jobs until we find new applications.

 

We're extremely grateful to all of our volunteers for supporting us in many ways during the past 20 years. Without you there would be no SETI@home. We're excited to finish up our original science project, and we look forward to what comes next.

Once I realized the MIL was listening, I haven't shut up since the beginning.

I talk to them everyday. I like to say that I know a little bit about everything, but I'm an expert at nothing. Through the chans I realized I was autistic. It was how they got the jump on (((them))) in the beginning. My LifeLog was all they needed to get started. Was always the smartest kid in the class growing up. 99 percentile [top 1%] on all my tests, ASVAB [military standardized test that all military personnel take] included. Out of everyone in the military, I'm in the top 1% [if not number 1 overall].

I have been trying to become the most relatable person, ever. Gotta get all the demographics [100% of the vote is the goal]. I've been homeless recently, among other things, on purpose. It's been an eye opening experience.

To be clear. There are aspects of the interview that trouble me. I do not rule out the possibility that the whole thing was scripted. For example, the almost comedic bit where Woods asks the FBI how they knew where he lived after they showed up at his house early that morning. However, this anon does not automatically rule it in either. Have not seen enough evidence either way to form much of an opinion. There is his longevity to be considered. He's still around and still very much part of public discourse. You could interpret that fact a few different ways and I leave it to you to do so. DOD Linguist Charged With Giving Highly Classified Intel to Foreigner With Alleged Ties to Hezbollah

A Department of Defense (DOD) contractor has been charged with passing highly classified information, including the names of human intelligence sources, to a foreign national with apparent ties to a foreign terrorist group.

 

Mariam Taha Thompson, 61, who formerly resided in Rochester, Minnesota, was charged on Wednesday for transmitting highly sensitive classified national defense information to a foreign national with alleged connections to Hezbollah.

 

The 61-year-old allegedly began accessing the classified information on or about Dec. 30, a day after U.S. airstrikes against Iranian-backed forces in Iraq, investigators said in an affidavit (pdf). It was also the same day protesters stormed the U.S. embassy in Iraq. Thompson allegedly accessed approximately 57 files concerning human intelligence sources, including true names, personal identification data, background information, and photographs of the human assets, and operational cables detailing information the assets provided to the U.S. government during a six-week period from Dec. 30, 2019, and Feb. 10, 2020. Prosecutors said Thompson had no need to access such information.

 

Investigators searched Thompson’s living quarters on Feb. 19 and found a handwritten note in Arabic hidden under her mattress. The note contained DOD classified information, identifying the human sources by name. It also had a warning for a DOD target who has ties with Hezbollah, along with instructions that the human sources’ phones should be monitored, the affidavit said. Agents confirmed that the human sources named in Thompson’s note were collecting information for the U.S. government and that the information found on the note was classified at the “Secret” level, meaning that “unauthorized disclosure reasonably could be expected to cause serious damage to the national security.”

 

Thompson was subsequently arrested by FBI Special Agents on Feb. 27 at a U.S. military facility at Erbil, Iraq, where she worked as a linguist. She also held a Top Secret government security clearance and had access to Top Secret information.

 

When questioned by FBI investigators, Thompson admitted that she had passed the classified information in the note to a co-conspirator, who she admitted was a romantic interest, upon the person’s request. Investigators alleged that Thompson knew that the co-conspirator was a foreign national whose relative worked for the Lebanese government. The investigation found that the co-conspirator has apparent ties with Hezbollah.

"FBI personnel under disciplinary review in relation to their work on FISA applications accordingly should not participate in drafting, verifying, reviewing, or submitting such applications to the Court while the review is pending," Boasberg wrote. 328 Chinese nationals caught entering US illegally

 

 

At least 328 Chinese nationals trying to enter the United States illegally since January have been intercepted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials as part of heightened awareness on the borders to block the coronavirus from slipping into the nation.

 

Officials told Secrets Wednesday that since January, 328 Chinese were “apprehended” and sent back across the border or repatriated consistent with existing policy and procedure. Another three from South Korea, where the virus is also spreading, were also caught.

 

Some 227 foreign nationals from other nations who tried to enter through legal border points from Feb. 2 through March 3 have been turned away due to the travel restriction ordered by the president and implemented by the Department of Homeland Security, officials said.

 

The White House previously announced travel restrictions for China, saying the U.S. would keep out any foreign national who's been in China within 14 days.

 

Several agencies within the DHS have been enlisted into President Trump’s “whole of government” attack on the virus, and more than 700 officials have been deployed to the effort.

 

Senior administration officials said that the president’s three-year focus on the border, the new wall, and the policy of keeping illegal immigrants in Mexico while awaiting permission to enter the U.S., have gone a long way to keep the virus away, especially at the southern border.

 

But acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf on Tuesday raised concerns about a court challenge to the Migrant Protection Protocols policy of keeping migrants in Mexico, where the coronavirus has also landed.

 

“MPP has an uncertain future. We know from experience that the journey to the U.S. border puts migrants in poor conditions — and they often arrive with no passports, medical histories, or travel manifests. The administration will continue to closely monitor the virus globally, as well as in our hemisphere, and will adjust our proactive measures as necessary,” he said.

 

Added a senior administration official: "We have a unique public health threat posed by individuals arriving unlawfully at the border. Any halting of MPP would exacerbate that threat."

 

DHS acting Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli said, “The department’s top priority is the safety of the American people, and President Trump has directed an aggressive, coordinated interagency response to fulfill that mission.”

 

He told Secrets: “The American people can be assured that we're doing everything we can to protect our homeland. While the general risk to the American public remains low, DHS has mobilized a departmentwide response to keep Americans safe, secure, and informed. Fortunately, we were able to engage DHS assistance early to prevent the spread of this virus in the U.S. We remain locked arm-in-arm with our interagency partners, HHS and CDC health professionals, and state and local officials acting as one to safeguard the health and safety of the American people.”

 

Several agencies are part of the effort. CBP and the DHS Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office are supporting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention entry screening at 11 major airports. The Federal Emergency Management Agency and U.S. Coast Guard are also playing key roles.

 

Officials said that 150-200 CBP officers are involved in screening those coming into the United States at 11 locations.

 

CWMD has more than 500 trained screeners.

 

Coast Guard medical teams have screened 707 people at three airports, Detroit, Dallas-Fort Worth, Seattle, and remains responsible for all seaports.

 

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is working with the Department of Health and Human Services in “incident management, resource planning, and federal interagency coordination,” according to an official. FEMA is readying 56 “incident management assistance teams” that can be deployed to trouble areas.

Historical precedent. Earth's moon was the first Moon, and for many moons was the only known moon. Hence, Earth's Moon should always be capitalized just as Venus, Mars, etc. should also be capitalized, because they are proper nouns.

Born Wernher Magnus Maximilian Freiherr von Braun, in Wirsitz, Germany (now Wyrzysk, Poland) to a minor aristocratic family, he inherited the title Freiherr (Baron) from his father, Magnus Freiherr von Braun, who had served as Minister of Agriculture in the Weimar Republic between the two World Wars. His mother, Emmy von Quistorp, could trace her family history to medieval European royalty. When Poland became independent in 1918, the von Braun family moved to Berlin, where young Wernher learned to play the cello and piano, wanting to become a music composer. After reading books on rocketry, he applied himself to his studies in physics and mathematics, in order to pursue a career in rocketry. In 1930, he entered the Technical University of Berlin, and joined the Eerein fur Raumschiffahrt (VFR, the Space Flight Society), building on his dream of space flight. Von Braun was working on his doctorate in rocketry when the Nazi Party came to power in 1933, and rocketry soon became a national agenda item. He earned his doctorate in Physics and Aerospace Engineering in July 1934, writing his doctoral thesis on the propulsion systems of liquid fuel rockets. Shortly after these successful launchings, the VFR (a civilian society) was ordered disbanded by the Nazi Government, but VFR members were allowed to join in the military development of rockets at the newly established Peenemünde Missile Base. It was here Von Braun helped to develop the V-1 and V-2 rockets, as well as other military rocket applications. In November 1937, Von Braun joined the Nazi Party, since Party membership was mandatory if one aspired to higher positions of authority. When offered a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the Waffen-SS in 1939, Von Braun thought it wise to accept the commission, stating that he was only interested in working on rocketry. Towards the end of the war, he worked on a multistage V-4 missile, which Hitler planned to use to target New York City and other American cities, but which Von Braun saw as the means to travel into deep outer space; the missile was never constructed, but its design served as part of the future post-war ICBMs later built by the United States. At the end of the war, Von Braun and his rocket staff decided to defect to the Americans, rather than be captured by one of the other allied armies then invading Germany. Von Braun orchestrated his staff's transfer to Oberammergau, in the Bavarian Alps south of Munich, where they were captured by the 44th US Infantry Division. Von Braun would later explain why he surrendered his team to the American Army: "We knew we had created a new means of warfare, and the question as to what victorious nation we were willing to entrust this brainchild of ours was a moral decision. We wanted to see the world spared another conflict, and that only by surrendering such a weapon to people who are guided by the Bible could such an assurance be secured." Von Braun and his entire staff of engineers and scientists were recruited to work for the United States, eventually settling at Fort Bliss, Texas (outside El Paso, Texas). In 1947, von Braun obtained permission to return to Germany long enough to marry his cousin, Maria Luise von Quistorp, and to return with her and his parents to the United States. In 1955, Wernher von Braun became an American citizen. Between 1950 and 1956, Von Braun led the Army's rocket development team at Redstone Arsenel, resulting in the Redstone rocket, the first rocket developed to carry a nuclear warhead.
