You'd never know from the front page of the Russian website iMGSRC that, within its depths, dozens of users are sharing photos of children in various states of undress.

 

The comments sections underneath those photo galleries are full of other users, all anonymized, weighing in with correspondingly disturbing remarks.

It's this website where US Army Staff Sgt. Richard Ciccarella is said to have uploaded topless pictures of a young female relative. Ciccarella pleaded guilty on Friday to lying to federal investigators about an email address for a Russian website; according to Assistant US Attorney Gregory Schiller, the photos didn't constitute child pornography.

 

Instead, he's being charged with making a false statement to a federal agent.

"The lie and the obstruction was to cover up an email address to cover up a much bigger investigation that was going on," Schiller said, according to a report in the Palm Beach Post.

From August 2017 to March 2018, Ciccarella was assigned to the US Army communications detail at President Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. It was during this period that he is accused of uploading the photos of an underage girl, said to be his relative β€” one such photo showed an underage girl in underwear next to a Christmas tree, the Miami Herald reported, with the caption, "dirty comments [sic] welcome."

A closer look at the website reveals a much deeper issue: The site is rife with users sharing photos of children in various states of dress, often paired with explicit or suggestive sexual statements.

 

Like 4chan and 8chan, iMGSRC is an "image board" β€” an anonymized web forum that allows users to host photos and comment on them. As of September 28, it boasted 1,168,898 registered users. Many of those users upload relatively banal images, like animal and travel photos. Indeed, much of the front page of iMGSRC features photos of cute animals.

But, also like 4chan and 8chan, much of that content seemingly isn't being moderated: We found example after example of users sharing photos albums of children. Some of those photos feature children in their underwear or various states of undress. In every case, those photos were paired with sexual comments from the original uploaded and other users.

 

The FAQ of iMGSRC addresses the moderation question directly: "We can not be held responsible for what user post on site," it says, "But we do take care to keep host as clean as possible." It also specifically states, "ABSOLUTELY NO CHILD PORN, no child abusive pics and NO child abusive comments! Your account will be banned permanently."

Terms of service aside, it's clear from a brief look around the site that those rules are loose at best. Many of the photos are unlikely to be legally considered "pornography," similar to the ruling with Ciccarella, as the children aren't fully nude.

iMGSRC has gained a reputation in the criminal community for hosting such material. In 2014 a US District Court of Kansas ruling recognized that the site was frequently used to host and trade child pornography. The website has been used in other countries to identify uploaders of illicit pictures of minors as well.

Representatives from iMGSRC did not respond to a request for comment as of publishing.

When Oswald Bilotta landed his dream job as a sales representative for Novartis Pharmaceuticals in 1999, he thought he'd be doing good for society while doing well for himself and his family.

 

He had no idea that just over a decade later, he'd be part of a vast federal investigation into kickbacks at Novartis and that he'd be paying cash bribes to doctors while wearing a wire for prosecutors.

 

On July 1, Ozzie Bilotta's yearslong effort to blow the whistle at Novartis paid off. The Justice Department announced a $678 million settlement with the company over improper inducements it made to doctors to prescribe 10 of the company's drugs, including the anti-hypertension drug Lotrel. The deal represents the biggest whistleblower settlement under the federal anti-kickback law, Bilotta's lawyer said.

 

"I felt like you needed to take drastic action to turn this system upside down and make it more legit," Bilotta, 57, said in an exclusive interview with NBC News. "The whole system needed to be blown up and pieced together in a fair way β€” fair for taxpayers and good for patients."

 

Although the payout Bilotta will get under federal whistleblower laws hasn't been determined, he could receive a pretax sum of $75 million through the settlement, his attorneys said.

 

In the settlement, Novartis admitted to "certain conduct" alleged by the government and will sharply curtail practices exposed by Bilotta that gave doctors incentives to prescribe its drugs. Novartis derived at least $40 million as a result of the conduct, money that was paid by federal health care programs, the government said.

 

"For more than a decade, Novartis spent hundreds of millions of dollars on so-called speaker programs, including speaking fees, exorbitant meals, and top-shelf alcohol that were nothing more than bribes to get doctors across the country to prescribe Novartis's drugs," said Audrey Strauss, the acting U.S. attorney for southern New York, whose office prosecuted the case.

 

Chief Executive Vas Narasimhan said in a statement that Novartis is committed "to resolve and learn from legacy compliance matters. We are a different company today β€” with new leadership, a stronger culture, and a more comprehensive commitment to ethics embedded at the heart of our company."

 

A Novartis spokesman declined to comment on Bilotta.

 

Bilotta, a Novartis sales representative for the eastern end of Long Island, filed his suit in January 2011 under the False Claims Act, detailing remuneration to physicians, such as lavish dinners at restaurants; costly tickets to sporting events and entertainment, including a trip to a Manhattan strip club; gift cards; and catering for events in the lives of doctors' children, such as graduations or bar mitzvahs.

 

On behalf of the government and to prove his case, Bilotta secretly recorded himself making cash payments to two doctors and got confirmation from four others of having accepted prior remuneration.

 

The government and New York state took up his case in 2013. It covers activities at Novartis that took place from January 2002 until November 2011. In addition to Bilotta's evidence, the government interviewed 350 witnesses, he said. The anti-hypertensive drug Valturna and the anti-diabetes drug Starlix were among the 10 or so drugs involved in the kickbacks.

Wayfair does not have their own delivery trucks they have to rely on other companies to ship for them. Who are those companies?

 

Looking into distribution channel of Wayfair, wondering how deliveries are made and where they are made from, much of the information on their site requires a membership sign up now, but did manage to find job listings for warehouses to get an idea of where these items ship from and what companies deliver for them. POTUS a few months ago did an appreciation event for truckers during the early days of COVID 19, when he handed keys to several different shipping companies, FEDX, DHS, etc.

 

Wayfair does not have in house delivery system they subcontract deliveries to other companies.

Sony’s buy-in shows just how monstrous Epic Games has become

 

Sony’s $250 million investment in Epic Games on Thursday, July 10, wasn’t exactly shocking. The two have been close partners for years, and in May, Epic showed the first Unreal Engine 5 footage running on a PlayStation 5.

 

What was surprising was how small a stake Sony got for its money.

 

A quarter of a billion dollars bought Sony a 1.5% ownership interest in the company behind Fortnite and so many other franchises. Eight years ago, when Tencent invested $330 million, that company picked up a 40% share in Epic.

 

The disparity between those ownership stakes shows just how big and how fast Epic has grown. The developer/publisher, right now, is valued at about $17.9 billion. To put things in perspective, Take-Two Interactive Software, the company behind Grand Theft Auto, the biggest video game of all time, has a market capitalization of $17.4 billion.

 

Epic has become an absolute beast.

 

The deal between Sony and Epic won’t result in any sort of PS5 exclusivity. Instead, it’s a continuation of Sony’s recent diversifications (which, in some ways, started with a partnership with Microsoft to collaborate on cloud-based gaming solutions).

 

β€œSony is proactive in investing [or] acquiring firms that can both benefit its existing operations (E.g. [the] Insomniac acquisition for $229m) or drive future growth,” said Daniel Ahmad, senior analyst at Niko Partners on Twitter. β€œThis is an example of the latter.”

 

For Epic, it’s the next step in its evolutionary growth.

 

Epic has grown from a company that focused on software (such as 1994’s Jazz Jackrabbit and the Unreal franchise) to one that also licenses its graphics engine (one of the industry’s two most-used), a game distributor with Epic Store and a game services company via Epic Online Services.

 

It’s a studio that’s looking to the future of not just gaming, but entertainment β€” and that’s a big part of what lured Sony on board. Music events have already taken place within Fortnite. Unreal Engine was used to create effects in The Mandalorian and the most recent season of Westworld. And the Epic Store, with its very favorable equity split for publishers could well tempt film and music companies in the future as yet another distribution platform.

 

But any company that’s growing that fast in that many directions and has its fingers in that many parts of the entertainment industry is bound to attract attention. And it makes itself a tempting takeover target.

 

Any company has its price, of course. Microsoft’s purchase of the seemingly unbuyable Minecraft developer Mojang in 2014 and Facebook’s buyout of Oculus that same year both made that clear. Epic, though, would be a complicated purchase.

 

β€œStrategically, it would be about value creation and value destruction,” says P.J. McNealy, CEO of Digital World Research.

 

In other words, if Activision were to buy Epic β€” and no longer license the engine to EA or Ubisoft, that would create value for its games (which would benefit from the engine’s advances), while destroying some of the financial value of the licensing model.

 

Anyone making a run for Epic, though, would have to navigate the interests of a disparate number of companies, with different interests. Among Epic’s stakeholders are venture capitalists including KKR, ICONIQ Capital, Smash Ventures, aXiomatic, Vulcan Capital, Kleiner Perkins, and Lightspeed Venture Partners; Disney; Endeavor Group (which owns everything from talent agencies to UFC); and Tencent.

 

Then there’s Tim Sweeney, who is still believed to still be Epic’s majority shareholder. He’s the wild card. And the founder of Epic, and his team, have made it very clear in the past year that it’s them, not the investors, who guide the course of the company.

 

β€œEverything we do is with our team, and the final point of conversation when it goes up to the top is Tim. And Tim does not take any orders from Tencent. Believe me,” said Epic Store lead Steven Allison at 2019’s Game Developer Conference.

 

But who could afford Epic at this point, even if a sale was possible? McNealy says the most viable candidates are the tech giants who, so far, don’t really have a stake in the traditional games business. And it’s likely that all of them have at least considered it at some point.

 

β€œIf you’re a major platform beyond video games, such as Amazon, Apple, Facebook, or Samsung, you’re going to need to check the box of video games and/or streaming content and maybe even a store,” he says. β€œWe’re in the environment where people are in acquisition mode because they want to build a portfolio or add to their technology. It would be reasonable to assume that all of those companies would be looking at Epic.”

Pics #2, 3 and 4 related. #2 is a data sheet on a mysterious yacht known as BYTE THE WORLD 1. Confirm that it’s the same yacht as the β€œByte the World” yacht picked up about 2 weeks or so ago near Barcelona, Spain in the Med, b/c it has the same MMSI# 319888608. It doesn’t register at all on vesselfinder and only a little bit of the time on marinetraffic.

 

Note the length of the yacht, 56 meters – this is β€œsuperyacht” territory. Almost zero info on this boat. However, lucked out and hit on it anchored near Gustavia harbor, St. Barts (about 10nm SE of St. Maarten in the Leeward Islands, if you’re lookin’). That’s pic #3.

 

You may recall, there is a new yacht added to the Yacht Watch List under observation recently, the ARTEFACT, in the same area. ARTEFACT has now shifted to an anchorage at Ile Fourchue, a small island between St. Maarten and St. Barts., about 7nm NW of Gustavia harbor. So ARTEFACT and BYTE THE WORLD 1 are very much in the same hood…

Pic#5 is the DELTA KANARIS, a Liberian-flagged tanker heading due north out of the Jose Terminal at Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela. The pic of this track is 6 hours old, but a check using the MMSI# shows a 45-minute old track where the tanker turned NE to a heading of about 045 at 13kts, and it shows her heading to the Med. Nothing else that I can detect of interest on the Venezuelan coast.

Bexar County does not include the number of those hospitalized from outside of the area in its overall total of coronavirus cases, but out-of-town patients are included in the county's hospitalization count, according to the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District.

Early Wednesday morning, police were called to a vandalized 9/11 memorial in Orange County, New York.

The flagpole, which once stood at the center of the memorial in Washingtonville, was cut down, and at the base, a message was scrawled in black marker, according to the Times Herald-Record.

Washingtonville Police Chief Brian Zaccaro explained that he didn’t want to disclose what the message said since the investigation was just getting started.

While mobs have been tearing down statues and vandalizing businesses, it seems that taking down memorials is next on their list, no matter what the memorial honors.

The Washingtonville memorial is a semi-circle of black granite with the names of five firefighters who died in the 2001 terrorist attacks engraved onto it. On top of each stone is a replica of a firefighter’s helmet.

β€œThe park and monument area are maintained primarily by the Village of Washingtonville with the help of many volunteers from the community who show up a few times a year to spruce up the monument and surrounding gardens,” the 911 Living Memorial website says.

The community as a whole is outraged, according to Sergeant Ken Lopez of the Washingtonville Police Department. β€œThe undertone in the community following the vandalism was one of disgust,” Lopez told Newsweek.

The Texas Medical Center in Houston includes a number of large healthcare facilities who independently posts covid infection data.

 

Thought I'd take a look, since Texas Governor Gregg Abbott as well as Harris County Judge and City of Houston Mayor have all been loud regarding their concerns about covid. The Mayor had the Texas Republican Convention planned in Houston next week cancelled and Abbott is talking about having to "close down the State if this continues."

So a quick review of the data shows that the increase apparently occurs after the June 9th George Floyd funeral and related demonstrations (which the Mayor attended).

 

Seems like an initial cluster of cases occurred within days of the funeral with increasing separate clusters of cases either secondary to the original cluster or in individuals with a longer incubation period possibly based on degree of exposure, immunity of the individuals or other factors. It would seem contact-tracing of those individuals who attended the George Floyd demonstrations/funeral could be helpful to limit this apparent growing problem…
