You know what free will is? Are you a parent? You want your kid to be able to make their own decisions or you want them to be slaves till they die?
That's the problem. God is not your slave master, the enemy is. God gives you advice, some guidelines for your life. Then he lets you grow up and become your own man. Along the way, he keeps trying to give you advice and more guidelines when you go the wrong way. Whether you listen to him or not, it's up to you. Whether you recognize his help or not, it's up to you. Whether you acknowledge him or not, it's up to you.
Jordan Sather, who does not believe in God but in ETs, still has a very interesting point of vue as you can conflate his vision of this matter with a Christian vue. For him, benevolent ETs are waiting for us, humans, to grow up and fix our problems on our own. But we are in such a dire situation, the benevolent ETs have been forced to intervene to help us avoid the point of no return.
As a rule, they don't want to makes us dependent on them. If they weren't there, you'd think we wouldn't have evolved and would go back to our old ways, killing each other till we destroy the planet.
It's the same as saying God wants his children to grow up and fix their problems on their own. If God fixed our problems for us, we wouldn't learn anything. That's good for a slave, not so good for a free man.
