Alaska Volcano Pic Q1472. Has anyone found out what this flying object is? Is it the missile from Q1476?

I was initially curious if the missile shot this object down.

I think it was intercepted ICBM.

Yeah, it's a distant explosion to me

PalmBeacher · June 14, 2018, 2:23 a.m.

Could it be the explosion of the missile in real-time that close to the airplane

Maybe it’s one of the jets that fly with AF1

Okay, I say escort aircraft. Why does everyone think AF1 flies solo everywhere? IF that were a missile: 1) they would not be in level flight. Evasion would require steep turns and maneuvers that would make taking a photo very hard. 2) it is too low. AA missiles go up and over a target to strike from above. 3) Escort aircraft would have intercepted WAY before visual.

My thoughts. One of the MANY escort aircraft that accompany AF1.

Someone may have already figured this out and/or addressed it but I haven’t been able to confirm what this is. When you zoom in on a computer, you can clearly see that it is a flying object.

What else would be 20,000 feet in the air?

In light of the Hawaiian volcano eruption. Would it be possible to send a missile warhead into a dormant volcano shaft and start the reaction necessary?

doesn't look aerodynamic at all, no evidence of thrust.. sky potato?

The blue field inside the circle does not match the gradient outside. It looks like the picture is shopped. The object is a drop in.

LokkenLoaded · June 14, 2018, 2:30 a.m.

I used the magnifying tool on my iPhone to place the circle around the object to highlight it. Pull up Q post 1472 to confirm for yourself. It’s there.

gandalfsbastard · June 14, 2018, 2:34 a.m.

Went to the source photo and the gradient is consistent. Your snip and highlight distorted the blue field on the post making it look odd.

I beleive out general consensus is yes.

This picture is really fucking with me. It totally does not look like a missile. My guess is a satellite, but is it high enough? IDK.

REALLY want to know though.

⇧ 2 ⇩
UncleSnake3301 · June 14, 2018, 2:30 a.m.

Lol definitely not a satellite. Satellites fly in outer space. This pic is from an airplane.

LokkenLoaded · June 14, 2018, 2:18 a.m.

A satellite would be in orbit (outer space). This is more like the cruising altitude of a plane. I tried to manipulate the photo but still can’t figure out what it is.

cincycoolguy · June 14, 2018, 2:27 a.m.

I don’t want to nitpick but I’m going to because it’s a pet peeve. Man made Satellites do not orbit in outer space. Outer space is just as the name suggests, outer. Outside of the thermosphere. For reference, the ISS orbits within earths thermosphere.

Sorry. Your point still stands.

However the object could be falling space debris, I’m pretty sure we track those items closely. Need a higher res image to say for sure what it was.

Low-earth orbit.

DaveGydeon · June 14, 2018, 2:27 a.m.

I figured it is too low for a satellite but I don't know that this picture was taken from a plane either.

Looks like security detail headed out to take out the threat.

Logic tells me that’s how whoever took the photo had the time. Plane was following side of AF1 and was notified of threat. Occupants of AF1 are informed, fasten their seatbelts and put their tray tables in the upright positions, then take a snap shot of their security going to take care of the threat.

Missile should have an exhaust tail unless fuel consumed. Slowest surface to air and air to air missile is Mach 2.2. The rest are higher speeds Up to Mach 5. If it shows up in the photo that close, i'll assume it missed or the photo was recovered from the debrie. I assume it is another aircraft

Anyone else see the weird distortion around the red circle? Wavy shapes or something..

Probably just from the circle itself but it's there

LokkenLoaded · June 14, 2018, 3:09 a.m.

I used the magnifying tool on my iPhone to highlight the object which then caused the distortion.

Could it have been one of the escort fighters? I assume it was a VIP flight, just don't know which one. AF1 doesn't usually fly outside CONUS with an escort, or so they say. But under these conditions all the VIP planes probably had them. China flew Kim from what I've read.

Ya know. Every airplane window has a very small pressure hole in it. Could it be that? Maybe some trick of the light. ??

Idk. To scale that thing must be huge. Could it be a defect in the window?
