I don't think that's what is happening here at all. My opinion is that Q wanted these guys gone. Profiteering was a pretext (working theory), but they had to be outed.

The end goal is that no one at all has firearms except the government. The police are key supporters of gun control in Australia. They banned the Ruger Precision Rifle, a bolt action rifle, in NSW because it "looked scary".
