An airplane headed toward North Carolina’s Outer Banks crashed into a Connecticut building Thursday morning.

The Cessna Citation 560X business jet — which had four people on board — crashed into the building in Farmington around 10 a.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

It had left from Robertson Field Airport in Plainville, Connecticut, and was headed to Dare County Regional Airport in Manteo, North Carolina, the FAA said.

The FAA did not comment on the condition of those on board the plane or what led to the crash.

It said it will investigate the crash along with the National Transportation Safety Board.

How Venice Rigged The First, and Worst, Global Financial Collapse

Six hundred and fifty years ago came the climax of the worst financial collapse in history to date. The 1930’s Great Depression was a mild and brief episode, compared to the bank crash of the 1340’s, which decimated the human population.

The crash, which peaked in A.C.E. 1345 when the world’s biggest banks went under, “led” by the Bardi and Peruzzi companies of Florence, Italy, was more than a bank crash—it was a financial disintegration. Like the disaster which looms now, projected in Lyndon LaRouche’s “Ninth Economic Forecast” of July 1994, that one was a blowup of all major banks and markets in Europe, in which, chroniclers reported, “all credit vanished together,” most trade and exchange stopped, and a catastrophic drop of the world’s population by famine and disease loomed.

Like the financial disintegration hanging over us in 1995 with the collapse of Mexico, Orange County, British merchant banks, etc., that one of the 1340’s was the result of thirty to forty years of disastrous financial practices, by which the banks built up huge fictitious “financial bubbles,” parasitizing production and real trade in goods. These speculative cancers destroyed the real wealth they were monopolizing, and caused these banks to be effectively bankrupt long before they finally went under.

The critical difference between 1345 and 1995, was that in the Fourteenth century there were as yet no nations. No governments had the national sovereignty to control the banks and the creation of credit; or, to force these banks into bankruptcy in an orderly way, and replace fictitious bank credit and money with national credit. Nor was the Papacy, the world leadership of the Church, fighting against the debt-looting of the international banks then as it is today; in fact, at that time it was allied with, aiding, and abetting them.

The result was a disaster for the human population, which fell worldwide by something like 25 percent between 1300 and 1450 (in Europe, by somewhere between 35 percent and 50 percent from the 1340’s collapse to the 1440’s).

This global crash, caused by the policies and actions of banks which finally completely bankrupted themselves, has been blamed by historians ever since on a king—poor Edward III of England. Edward revolted against the seizure and looting of his kingdom by the Bardi and Peruzzi banks, by defaulting on their loans, starting in 1342. But King Edward’s national budget was dwarfed by that of either the Bardi or Peruzzi; in fact, by 1342, his national budget had become a sub-department of theirs. Their internal memos in Florence spoke of him contemptuously as “Messer Edward”; “we shall be fortunate to recover even a part” of his debts, they sniffed in 1339.

A “free trade” mythology has been developed by historians about these “sober, industrious, Christian bankers” of Italy in the Fourteenth century—“doing good” by their own private greed; developing trade and the beginnings of capitalist industry by seeking monopolies for their family banks; somehow existing in peace with other merchants; and expiating their greedy sins by donations to the Church. But, goes the myth, these sober bankers were led astray by kings (accursed governments!) who were spendthrift, warlike, and unreliable in paying debts which they had forced the helpless or momentarily foolish bankers to lend them. Thus, emerging “private enterprise capitalism” was set back by the disaster of the Fourteenth century, concludes the classroom myth, noting in passing that 30 million people died in Europe in the ensuing Black Death, famine, and war. If only the “sober, Christian” bankers had stuck to industrious “free trade” and prosperous city-states, and never gotten entangled with warlike, spendthrift kings!

Qatar and Turkey Discuss Helping Taliban Run Kabul Airport C_A

Qatar Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said on Thursday that his nation and the government of Turkey will contribute to the reopening of Kabul’s international airport, currently under the control of the Taliban terrorist organization.

Kabul’s airport, named “Hamid Karzai” after the corrupt former president, was the sight of weeks of chaos following the Taliban’s seizure of the capital city on August 15, as thousands of Afghans desperately tried to board evacuation flights to the United States and other destinations. Many of those fleeing were believed to be individuals who worked with America during the 20-year occupation of the country or with the now-former Afghan government, whose president, Ashraf Ghani, fled without a fight hours after initial reports that the Taliban had reached Kabul.

A jihadist suicide bombing killed nearly 200 people, including 13 American troops, at the Kabul airport last week. The Islamic State (ISIS), for years not a significant player in the Afghan terrorist scene, claimed responsibility for the attack, having allegedly passed one of its suicide bombers through Taliban security.

Like ISIS, the Taliban is a Sunni jihadist organization. It is currently the de facto government of Afghanistan. On August 31, President Joe Biden’s administration announced it had pulled all military service members from the country, leaving the airport to the Taliban.

Taliban leaders currently are not believed to have the resources to man the airport, including air traffic control staff, technical administrators, pilots, and other key personnel. Reports last week indicated that Taliban leaders had initially reached out to Turkey, an Islamist country and NATO member previously in charge of the airport, for help restoring commercial flights.

Al-Thani, the Qatari foreign minister, said at a press conference Thursday that Doha and Ankara were in talks to restore functionality to the airport with the Taliban’s blessing.

“We are engaging with them [the Taliban], and also working with Turkey if they can provide any technical assistance on that front. Hopefully in the next few days there will be some good news,” al-Thani reportedly said. “There is no clear indication when it is going to be fully operational yet … We remain hopeful that we will be able to operate it as soon as possible.”

Qatar, often accused of supporting jihadist terrorism, has hosted the Taliban’s “political office” in Doha for years. Doha hosted talks between senior Taliban leaders and the administration for former President Donald Trump last year that resulted in an agreement that would have seen American forces leave Afghanistan by May 1. Biden’s decision to break the agreement prompted the Taliban to go on a nationwide conquest campaign culminating with the takeover of Kabul last month.

Qatar has thus played a major role in Taliban attempts at diplomacy. Notably, a day before al-Thani suggested Doha would offer technical aid to run the airport, a Qatar Airways flight became the first civilian flight to land at the Kabul airport since America’s departure.

In the odd years where the Texas Legislature is in session, a whole mess of new laws typically goes into effect on Sept. 1. This year is no exception, with the legislature passing 666 laws that go into effect on Wednesday.

While all of them are not listed here, you can see a few of the big ones below. A link to the full slate of new laws can be found at the bottom of the page.

TEXAS 2022-23 BUDGET: SB1: The House and Senate approve a two-year $250 billion budget that lawmakers said spends less than our current budget and better funds public schools. Our partners at The Dallas Morning News have more on the budget here.

STAR-SPANGLED BANNER ACT: SB4: Requires that the national anthem, the Star-Spangled Banner, be played before games played by professional sports teams that contract with the state.

TEXAS HEARTBEAT BILL: SB8: Texas' "Heartbeat Bill" bans abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which can occur about six weeks into a pregnancy and before many women know they are pregnant. The law allows private citizens to enforce the rule, not the state, through civil lawsuits against doctors and others. Similar laws in other states have been successfully challenged in federal court, though Texas lawmakers hope placing enforcement in the hands of citizens will help defeat challenges.

BLOCKING AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE: HB9: Provides for criminal punishment and the conditions of community supervision for someone who blocks the path of an emergency vehicle. Depending on the circumstance, the punishment could be a misdemeanor or felony.

POLICE CHOKEHOLDS: SB69: Police officers are no longer allowed to use a chokehold, carotid artery hold, or similar neck restraint unless it's necessary to prevent injury to the officer; police officers also have a duty to intervene to stop or prevent another police officer from using force against a person if that force exceeds what is reasonable or if the officer knows the use of such force is a violation of law or puts a person at risk of bodily injury.

ACTIVE SHOOTER ALERT SYSTEM: HB103: Also known as the Leilah Hernandez Act, this law creates the Texas Active Shooter Alert System which will be activated via the federal Wireless Emergency Alert System on the report of an active shooter. This is expected to work in the same way Amber Alerts, Blue Alerts, etc., are distributed on phones. The information could alert people to the situation, a suspected shooter's identity or last known location, or other relevant information. Leilah Hernandez, 15, was the youngest victim killed during a 2019 mass shooting in Midland-Odessa.

BO'S LAW: HB929: Known as the Botham Jean Act, or Bo's Law, this law ensures that cameras worn by law enforcement officers will remain on during an active investigation. The law came about after Jean was fatally shot in his apartment by off-duty Dallas police officer Amber Guyger who entered Jean's apartment and mistook it for her own. Testimony in Guyger’s murder trial revealed Dallas Police Association President Mike Mata asked another officer to turn off a camera inside a squad car at the scene of the shooting so Guyger and Mata could speak privately. Mata said Guyger was going to take a call from her attorney and had the right to attorney-client privilege. Bo's law establishes guidelines for when a recording can be discontinued considering the need for privacy in certain situations and locations.

MAIL-IN BALLOT TRACKING: HB1382: This bill amends Election Code to add electronic tracking for applications for mail-in ballots. The bill tasks the secretary of state with creating an online tool for people who submit applications for a ballot to track the location and status of the application and the ballot.

SUNDAY BEER/WINE SALES: HB1518: The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code was amended to allow beer and wine to be sold after 10 a.m. on Sundays. Prior to Sept. 1, 2021, beer and wine could not be sold before noon on Sundays. Liquor is still not allowed to be sold on Sundays at any time.

"DEFUNDING POLICE" PROTECTIONS: HB1900: Municipalities with populations of more than 250,000 that adopt budgets that reduce year-over-year appropriations to police departments could be subject to financial penalties from the state if those reductions are out of line with other reductions to the budget. The bill also blocks future annexation and allows areas annexed within the last 30 years to appeal for de-annexation that is decided during an election.

CRIMINALIZING HOMELESS CAMPING: HB1925: This law prohibits camping in public places by homeless people and criminalizes the act by making it a Class C misdemeanor with a fine of $500. The law also says a political subdivision may not designate a property to be used by homeless individuals to camp without an approved plan.

CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY: HB1927: Anyone age 21 who can legally own a handgun can legally carry that handgun in public without a license or training. It is illegal however to carry that gun while intoxicated and the law includes stiffer penalties for felons caught illegally carrying guns. The law was not passed without controversy. Some law enforcement groups said the law would endanger the public and police while supporters said would allow Texans to better defend themselves in public while abolishing unnecessary impediments to the constitutional right to bear arms. Texas law also makes some places always off-limits to firearms and the new law does not change where guns cannot be carried, including: a polling place; a government meeting open to the public; a courthouse; a school or school-related activity; a racetrack; a jail; an airport; an amusement park; a bar; a restaurant selling alcohol. PATRIOTIC EDUCATION: HB2497 and HB3979: As the debate over critical race theory continues during the second special session, Texas lawmakers approved two bills in the regular session aimed at how the history of America and Texas is taught in schools. HB2497 is related to the Texas 1836 Project, an effort to teach "Patriotic Education" since the state's war for independence from Mexico. The bill provides for an advisory committee "to promote patriotic education and increase awareness of the Texas values that continue to stimulate boundless prosperity across this state." Lawmakers also passed HB3979, which says "a teacher, administrator, or other employee of a state agency, school district, or open-enrollment charter school may not (C) require an understanding of The 1619 Project." The project is a longform journalism project from the New York Times that "aims to reframe the country's history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of our national narrative."

ERCOT CHANGES: HB2586 and SB1281: Two laws related to the devastating winter storm from February 2021 and the power grid will go into effect Wednesday. HB2586 calls for an annual audit of each independent organization certified for the ERCOT power region. Auditors will look at board members, salaries, budgets and expenses of each organization. Under SB1281, a biennial assessment of the reliability of the ERCOT power grid under extreme weather scenarios will be performed by a certified independent organization.

Pelosi announces vote on bill to codify Roe v. Wade

Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Thursday the House will vote on legislation to codify Roe v. Wade in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to deny an emergency appeal filed by abortion providers to block the Texas heartbeat bill.

Pelosi blasted the 5-4 ruling made Wednesday evening to uphold Texas’ new policy to ban the procedure after six weeks and allow for individuals to file civil suits against abortion providers or those who help facilitate abortions.

“The Supreme Court’s cowardly, dark-of-night decision to uphold a flagrantly unconstitutional assault on women’s rights and health is staggering. That this radically partisan Court chose to do so without a full briefing, oral arguments or providing a full, signed opinion is shameful,” she said in a statement.

“SB8 delivers catastrophe to women in Texas, particularly women of color and women from low-income communities. Every woman, everywhere has the constitutional right to basic health care. SB8 is the most extreme, dangerous abortion ban in half a century, and its purpose is to destroy Roe v. Wade and even refuses to make exceptions for cases of rape and incest. This ban necessitates codifying Roe v. Wade.”

The California Democrat said the lower chamber will take up The Women’s Health Protection Act — spearheaded by Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) — which would bar restrictions to abortions including “mandatory waiting periods, biased counseling, two-trip requirements, and mandatory ultrasounds.”

“Upon our return, the House will bring up Congresswoman Judy Chu’s Women’s Health Protection Act to enshrine into law reproductive health care for all women across America,” Pelosi continued.

“SB8 unleashes one of the most disturbing, unprecedented and far-reaching assaults on health care providers – and on anyone who helps a woman, in any way, access an abortion – by creating a vigilante bounty system that will have a chilling effect on the provision of any reproductive health care services.”

“This provision is a cynical, backdoor attempt by partisan lawmakers to evade the Constitution and the law to destroy not only a woman’s right to health care but potentially any right or protection that partisan lawmakers target. When the Supreme Court takes up its reproductive rights case this year, we urge it to uphold, as Justice Sotomayor wrote in her dissent, ‘its constitutional obligations to protect not only the rights of women, but also the sanctity of its precedents and of the rule of law,’” Pelosi said.

The House is scheduled to come back into session on Sept. 20.

While the bill is likely to pass the lower chamber, it faces a narrow path in the Senate, which requires a 60 vote threshold for passage.

Almost 90 Retired Flag Officers Demand Mark Milley, Lloyd Austin Resign After Afghanistan Debacle

Nearly 90 retired U.S. generals and admirals penned an open letter asking Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley to resign from their positions following their “negligence in performing their duties primarily involving events surrounding the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.”

“As principal military advisors to the CINC [Commander-in-Chief]/President, the SECDEF and CJCS should have recommended against this dangerous withdrawal in the strongest possible terms,” the letter states. “If they did not do everything within their authority to stop the hasty withdrawal, they should resign. Conversely, if they did do everything within their ability to persuade the CINC/President to not hastily exit the country without ensuring the safety of our citizens and Afghans loyal to America, then they should have resigned in protest as a matter of conscience and public statement.”

This “hasty retreat,” the letter continues, not only left thousands of vulnerable Americans and Afghan allies stranded at the hands of the Taliban but also contributed to the “catastrophic” loss of “billions of dollars in advanced military equipment and supplies falling into the hands of our enemies.”

“The consequences of this disaster are enormous and will reverberate for decades beginning with the safety of Americans and Afghans who are unable to move safely to evacuation points; therefore, being de facto hostages of the Taliban at this time. The death and torture of Afghans has already begun and will result in a human tragedy of major proportions,” the letter says. “The damage to the reputation of the United States is indescribable. We are now seen, and will be seen for many years, as an unreliable partner in any multinational agreement or operation. Trust in the United States is irreparably damaged.”

This damaged trust, the retired generals and admirals argue, gives confidence to U.S. enemies who “are emboldened to move against America due to the weakness displayed in Afghanistan.”

“China benefits the most followed by Russia, Pakistan, Iran, North Korea and others. Terrorists around the world are emboldened and able to pass freely into our country through our open border with Mexico,” the letter states.

The letter also points out how military leadership’s focus on “wokeness” is hurting the viability of U.S. troops and the military as an institution.

“In interviews, congressional testimony, and public statements it has become clear that top leaders in our military are placing mandatory emphasis on PC ‘wokeness’ related training which is extremely divisive and harmful to unit cohesion, readiness, and war fighting capability,” the letter says. “Our military exists to fight and win our Nation’s wars and that must be the sole focus of our top military leaders.”

“For these reasons we call on the SECDEF Austin and the CJCS General Milley to resign,” it concludes. “A fundamental principle in the military is holding those in charge responsible and accountable for their actions or inactions. There must be accountability at all levels for this tragic and avoidable debacle.”

“Simply stated, the letter is all about accountability. One of the things that makes our great military unique as an institution is the fundamental principle of holding each other accountable for our actions, or inactions. Regarding the tragic and avoidable situation in Afghanistan, accountability begins at the top of the chain,” Retired Maj. Gen. Joe Arbuckle told The Federalist in a statement.

Over the last week, multiple GOP lawmakers called on President Joe Biden to resign for “dereliction of duty that has left Americans dead at the hands of terrorists.”

Biden pressed Afghan president to change 'perception' that Taliban was winning, 'whether true or not'

Biden pressured Ghani to 'project a different picture'

President Biden stressed the need for changing the "perception" of the Taliban’s progress in Afghanistan, "whether it is true or not," during a phone call with former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani less than four weeks before Kabul collapsed, according to a new report.

According to a transcript of the July 23 presidential call reviewed by Reuters, Biden didn’t anticipate the Taliban’s rapid advance across Afghanistan, which ended when they stormed Kabul on Aug. 15 and Ghani fled the presidential palace. Instead, Biden focused much of the 14-minute call on the Afghan government’s "perception" problem, Reuters reported.

BIDEN BREAKS PROMISE TO 'STAY' IN AFGHANISTAN UNTIL EVERY AMERICAN EVACUATED

"I need not tell you the perception around the world and in parts of Afghanistan, I believe, is that things are not going well in terms of the fight against the Taliban," Biden said. "And there is a need, whether it is true or not, there is a need to project a different picture."

At the time of the call, the Taliban controlled about half of Afghanistan's district centers. Biden urged Ghani to hold a press conference with other prominent Afghan leaders to outline a new military strategy, which he argued would "change perception, and that will change an awful lot I think," Reuters reported.

"We are going to continue to fight hard, diplomatically, politically, economically, to make sure your government not only survives, but is sustained and grows," Biden said.

Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, echoed similar concerns in a follow-up call with Ghani later that day, which did not include Biden, Reuters reported.

"The perception in the United States, in Europe and the media sort of thing is a narrative of Taliban momentum, and a narrative of Taliban victory," Milley reportedly said. "And we need to collectively demonstrate and try to turn that perception, that narrative around."

The White House on Tuesday declined to comment on the call when reached by Reuters.

JIDDAH, Saudi Arabia - FBI agents have interviewed a Saudi man suspected of helping two of the Sept. 11 hijackers, a U.S. Embassy official said yesterday.

Omar al-Bayoumi was interviewed Sunday night by FBI agents in the Red Sea port city of Jiddah, where he lives, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

He said the FBI agents were connected to the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh but gave no details.

The White House said Monday it was eager to question al-Bayoumi. A congressional report says he befriended and helped al-Qaida members Khalid al-Midhar and Nawaf Alhazmi, two of the hijackers on the jet that crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.

Al-Bayoumi said Sunday in an interview with Dubai-based Al-Arabiya television that he was willing to talk with the FBI, but only in his homeland and in the presence of officials of that government. He told the station that he had done nothing wrong.

The Saudi government said last week it had authorized FBI and CIA agents in Saudi Arabia to question al-Bayoumi. The FBI sent a team to Saudi Arabia over the weekend as part of the investigation, a senior U.S. law enforcement official said.

It seems likely that al-Bayoumi will be interviewed again this weekend, this time by the FBI team sent by Washington.

Al-Bayoumi studied in the United States on a Saudi government scholarship from 1994 to 2000. The congressional report said he and al-Midhar and Alhazmi met in Los Angeles. When the two moved into the San Diego housing complex where al-Bayoumi lived, he threw them a welcoming party and put down money for their deposit and first month's rent, according to the report.

The FBI, according to the report, found the connection "somewhat suspicious."

In earlier Saudi press reports, al-Bayoumi said the two men were mere acquaintances and briefly neighbors.

He left the United States two months before the attacks to study in Britain. British and U.S. officials investigated him immediately after the terrorist attacks and released him.

Also yesterday, the Ministry of the Interior said one of the militants killed in a shootout with Saudi police last week was part of a cell of 19 suspected terrorists linked to al-Qaida and thought to be behind bombings carried out May 12 by nine suicide attackers in Riyadh.

The statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency named him as Ahmed bin Nasser al-Dekhiel.

The bombings, which killed 26 people, including nine Americans, sparked an anti-terror crackdown in the kingdom, with more than 200 suspects arrested and more than a dozen people killed.

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell said Saudi Arabia has been "especially aggressive" in responding to U.S. terrorism requests, although "we still have issues with respect to financing."

Hans von Spakovsky: Missing Ballots in Three States Exceed Joe Biden’s Victory Margins

Hans von Spakovsky, manager of the Heritage Foundation’s Election Law Reform Initiative and a senior legal fellow of the Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies, said president Joe Biden’s margins of victory in Arizona, Nevada, and Wisconsin in the 2020 presidential election were narrower than the states’ respective totals of unaccounted-for ballots.

Biden’s margin of victory in Wisconsin was approximately 20,000 votes despite the number of ballots “missing or undeliverable” in the state amounting to 83,000, von Spakovsky noted.

“Remember the margin of victory in Wisconsin was only 20,000 votes, and that basically 82,000 ballots were either lost or undeliverable or were rejected,” von Spakovsky said on Wednesday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow. “That’s four times the margin of victory.”

“Those are the numbers that the Wisconsin Election Commission itself reported to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission,” he added.

Von Spakovsky shared details of “unaccounted-for ballots” from a Daily Signal report

“[The Wisconsin Election Commission] said 6,500 absentee ballots they mailed out were sent back by the postal service as ‘undeliverable’ [and] 3,000 ballots that came back were rejected. They don’t say why, but usually [a ballot is rejected] because, for example, the signature doesn’t match, indicating it may have been a fraudulent ballot,” he remarked.

Wisconsin authorities cannot account for 76,000 ballots, von Spakovsky stated. “They don’t know what happened to them,” he said. “In other words, voters requested an absentee ballot, or [Wisconsin officials] simply decided — in some places in Wisconsin — to simply mail out absentee ballots to everybody, and the ballot never came back, so it’s unaccounted for. These are the official numbers of the election commission [in Wisconsin], and we don’t know what happened to them. We don’t know if [the ballots] got lost [or] if they were stolen and somebody didn’t get to vote.”

British NGO Chief Arrested Then Freed by Taliban in Bid to Evacuate Afghan Staff

Ben Slater revealed plans earlier this week to take some 400 Afghan citizens, including single women unaccompanied by male relatives, out of the country by road into another country he declined to name. He claimed the British government had abandoned them in Kabul.

The Taliban* has released a British head of several charities in Afghanistan after he tried to drive a coach-load of his staff out of the country.

Former Army Military Policeman Ben Slater told The Daily Telegraph he was detained for several hours on Thursday morning after reaching the border the day before.

He said Taliban authorities questioned him as to why single women among his group were staying in hotels without male relatives accompanying them. On release, he was allowed to cross, but with only one other person.

“The final blow to the op is that the UK are only granting myself and one of my executive assistants over the border today, and they haven’t even suggested they are going to issue the visas for some or the rest of my group”, Slater said. “It’s a complete disaster really. It’s disgusting. It’s beyond horrible”.

Slater did not reveal which border he attempted to cross. But Afghanistan’s neighbours have in recent days closed their frontiers to would-be asylum-seekers — including Commonwealth member Pakistan, which is currently hosting 3.5 million refugees from the 20-year war.

Japan's Suga to resign as prime minister

Abe's successor won't run in ruling party leadership race

TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga will resign as early as this month, throwing wide-open the ruling Democratic Party of Japan's presidential election, a crucial race as it could set the tone for upcoming lower house elections.

Also, the LDP's selection process for senior leadership positions has stalled. Suga had wanted to fill the posts by this coming Monday. The likelihood that he would be unable to do so made it difficult for the prime minister to continue running the administration.

Suga had been planning to reshuffle party executives such as secretary-general Toshihiro Nikai, and go into the party's presidential election and the lower house election with fresh faces.

But with the Suga cabinet's slumping approval rating, there was widespread concern from within the party that it will lose the upcoming Lower House race if there is no change at prime minister.

Suga took over after Shinzo Abe resigned last September, citing ill health.
