Space Coast

The Space Coast is a region in the U.S. state of Florida around the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. It is one of several "themed" coasts around Florida. All of NASA-launched crewed spaceflights have departed from either KSC or Cape Canaveral. The Air Force Station has also launched unmanned military and civilian rockets. There's been a ton of reporting and analysis on Bob Woodward and Robert Costa's new book, "Peril", most of it focusing on the final days of the Trump administration — which by all accounts were even more of a chaotic mess than we could see from the outside (and we saw plenty). The bizarre antics from the president and his henchmen regarding the election results were unprecedented and continue to this day.

But one of the most chilling quotes from the book that I've seen so far comes from this review of the book by history professor Eric Rauchway in the Washington Post. As we knew, Vice President Mike Pence tried every way he could to come up with a rationale to do Trump's bidding and refuse to ceremonially confirm the electoral count in the joint session of Congress on January 6th. On that morning, before the fateful rally that inspired the insurrection, Pence came to the White House to reluctantly tell his boss that he just didn't have the power to do that under the Constitution:

Gesturing at some of his supporters already gathered and shouting outside the White House, Trump asked, "Well, what if these people say you do?

When Pence demurred again, Trump mused, "wouldn't it almost be cool to have that power?"

As Rauchway points out, "the president was willing to find authority in the mob if he lacked it in the law." It's entirely possible that if the mob had succeeded in finding House Speaker Nancy Pelosi or the vice president or had been able to corner some of those elected officials in the Capitol that day, Trump would have gone along with it. All the recent books, including "Peril" have Trump watching the event unfold and being unmoved by exhortations to step in from everyone from his daughter Ivanka to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, to whom he reportedly said, "well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are."

That comment about the mob conferring the power to overturn the election results got me thinking about the timeline on Jan. 6 and it occurs to me that Trump only issued his pathetic video in which he said he loved the gathered rioters but implored them to go on home once it became clear that all the officials had gotten away safely and there was no longer any chance his supporters would succeed in finding them. He had waited to see if they could physically force the Congress to overturn the election.

As predicted, the "Justice forJ6" rally last Saturday was a non-event. More media showed up than protesters, largely because the organizer has no talent for organizing and the word on all right-wing social media was that the FBI was going to arrest everyone. As I noted earlier, Trump himself said it was a "set-up." But in case anyone wondered where he stood on the premise of this rally, which is that the federal authorities are unjustly holding peaceful protesters as political prisoners, he left no doubt when he issued his statement in solidarity. "Our hearts and minds are with the people being persecuted so unfairly relating to the January 6th protest concerning the Rigged Presidential Election. In addition to everything else, it has proven conclusively that we are a two-tiered system of justice."

ABC's Jonathan Karl reported on "This Week" that when he's interviewed Trump for his new book, it's clear that Trump has no regrets:

I was absolutely dumbfounded at how fondly he looks back on January 6th. He thinks it was a great day. He thinks it was one of the greatest days of his time in politics.

Trump is still flouting the law and openly condoning the violent insurrection. As Rauchway said, he "finds authority in the mob." He's always engaged in lurid rhetoric and has nudged his followers and police to beat protesters and the like. But starting with his calls to "liberate" states that were trying to mitigate the spread of the pandemic, he has been backing insurrectionist and vigilante activity. And his followers are listening.

We've seen threats and intimidation against government workers and public health officials for months. Congressional representatives are under constant threat having to hire private security and bodyguards. We are starting to see violence in everyday interactions between local officials and their constituents. School board meetings have become fraught with locals citizens yelling at officials that they know where they live and they will find them. Last week GOP Congressman Anthony Gonzales announced that he would not run for reelection in Ohio because ever since he voted to impeach Donald Trump after the insurrection he and his family have needed security due of the risk of violence from Trump supporters. Trump quickly put out a statement indicating his elation at the success of that intimidation:

The 9 he refers to are the other Republicans who voted to impeach him. He is using the "authority of the mob" to chase his perceived enemies in the GOP out of politics and to send a message to all the other Republicans that they will be subject to the same treatment if they cross him.

All the recent polls show Trump is as popular as ever with Republicans. His obsessive attention to his Big Lie seems to have hardened their attitudes with more of them believing he was cheated than believed it last January. The vast majority of his voters have lost faith in the electoral system to deliver a fair result and will likely not accept anything but a victory going forward, particularly if Donald Trump is on the ballot.

Rauchway's review of "Peril" features an unexpected insight into President Biden's view of Trumpism. He writes:

Biden regards the -ism, not the man, as the real threat; Trump put the nation in peril because he evoked and organized a darkness that was already there.

That darkness isn't going away. It is energized and stimulated by the strong threat of violence that is running through our politics. Like it's leader Trump, it sees the "authority in the mob" as the best way to preserve its dominance in a culture it believes is slipping away. Biden is right that Trump is not the real threat. The threat is the violent beast he has unleashed and there isn't any obvious way to put it back in its cage.

The official Twitter account of US Southern Command is facing mockery after it posted a picture featuring silhouettes of Russian Sukhoi fighter jets to mark the US Air Force’s birthday.

The simple graphics, posted on the occasion of the 74th birthday of the USAF, featured three top-down views of warplanes. The silhouettes don’t feature much detail, but their tail sections strongly implied that the aircraft are not from the fleet normally deployed by the American armed forces. Instead, they strongly resemble Sukhoi Su-27 twin-jet fighters.

A political action committee ‘Real Justice PAC’ cofounded by Shaun King, a Black Lives Matter and left-wing activist, has been found to have been funneling a quarter of its fundraising money back into for-profit companies linked to its leaders. The Real Justice PAC was founded with an eye towards driving criminal-justice reform across the country using the same mass mobilization techniques that were employed by the Sanders campaign.

Over the past 15 months, Real Justice PAC has been funneling money brought in and cutting dozens of checks totaling more than $460,000 to three political firms linked to PAC employees. Those firms are Social Practice LLC, Bernal Alto LLC, and Middle Seat Consulting. Social Practice LLC and Bernal Alto LLC are managed by PAC’s data strategist Jin Ding and it’s treasurer Becky Bond. Middle Seat Consulting was cofounded by one of the PAC’s original leaders, Hector Sigala.

“There are legal and ethical ways to have people in leadership positions at an organization, and also serve as vendors to the same organization. But these relationships properly raise questions, especially for a group whose leaders include someone like Shaun King, who has repeatedly been accused of enriching himself improperly,” said Scott Walker, president of the Capitol Research Center, a money-in-politics watchdog.

Because PAC is a 501(c)(3) charity, the IRS actually prohibits excessive benefits to individuals from the organization’s coffers. The same charities that criticize their opponents for ‘dark money’ influence should also be prepared to defend practices that let their leaders write checks to their own for-profit consultancies.

Kathryn Murdoch is a member of the Aspen Institute. In 2016, Murdoch made contributions to numerous state democratic parties, totaling nearly half a million dollars, noting “Hillary Victory Fund” on the memo line of each of these donations. Murdoch also made a substantial donation to the Democratic National Committee (DNC), with a second donation to the DNC for $2,700 (the maximum donation allowed to a campaign), also noting “Hillary Victory Fund” on the memo line. In addition to this, Murdoch twice contributed the maximum amount allowed directly to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, and contributed nearly $85,000 directly to the Hillary Victory Fund. FOX NEWS IS CORRUPT - Murdoch is the co-chair of the board of Unite America, a left-of-center PAC, to which she donated nearly $4 million in 2019. Protesters Tear Down Georgia Guidestones

The controversial apocalyptic Georgia monument proclaiming end-of-the-world scenarios was toppled this past week by a group of leftwing activists.

For years since their appearance, the Georgia Guidestones have been the target of mostly Rightwing conspiracy groups who claimed that the many elite organizations are behind the monument. However, since the election of Donald Trump, whose rhetoric in many ways is similar to the apocalyptic warnings on the Stones, much of this reactionary cohort has embraced many of its ideas. This is particularly true of QAnon followers, who believe they are part of a righteous army.

“Yep, we used to be against the Georgia Guidestones until Trump and then QAnon came around,” said Damian Gender, who heads up the Dixie Patriot Fighters, Georgia’s 17th largest militia group based out of Macon. “But now we see the Stones as a prophecy being fulfilled by American-loving patriots like the ‘Fighters. This is even more apparent after the ANTIFA pulled them down this week that we’re on the right side of history.”

Elbert County, GA — According to the Elbert County sheriff, as many as 100 protesters attacked and then toppled the famous and mysterious Georgia Guidestones early Friday morning. According to the report, the group was a collection of anarchists loosely associated with Black Lives Matter, ANTIFA, and the Judean People’s Front.

“At approximately 4:20 am Friday, a large group dressed in black arrived in a caravan of Subarus and Toyota Matrixes arrived at the Georgia Guidestone site and immediately disabled the 42 security cameras the county set up four years ago following suspicious activity,” said the official sheriff’s report. “Then, we believe, the group vandalized the monuments before pulling them down. The suspects then threw a party with keg IPA beer and wheatgrass smoothies before departing.”

As the sheriff was quick to point out, this was not the first time “the Stones” have been tampered with.

Late Sunday morning, the Jerusalem, Arkansas-based Anti-fascist Action (AFA) claimed responsibility via Twitter for what they called its “resistance operation.” However, moments later, the Atlanta-based Georgia Resistance Network (GRN), loosely affiliated with the ANTIFA-connected Sacramento Workers Action Network (SacWAN) claimed full responsibility for the destruction, claiming that the AFA were “splitters” and “not a serious anti-fascist group.” AFA responded by calling GRN “amateur protesters” who “need more practice.”

The Elbert County sheriff says the Guidestones have been reinstalled and the county is considering putting a fence around the perimeter. One county official suggested playing country music around the monument to discourage what she called “BLM communists from destroying our southern heritage.”

“We have to do something,” said Betsy Gibbons, who represents the people of Elbery County. “We can’t allow these socialists to take our way of life from us God-fearing Americans. And we will do whatever it takes to protect the Guidestones from these evil forces. And I figure, what better way to keep them away than with Alan Jackson blaring 24 hours a day?”

GEORGIA NIGHTMARE: Judge in 2020 Election Case Hands Investigation Over to Attorneys for Corrupt SoS Raffensperger – Gives Them 20 Days

The 2020 Election case in Georgia took a bizarre twist today in the Peach State. The judge handed the investigation over to the attorneys for the individual who is responsible for creating the mess in the first place, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

As we reported this morning, there was an important court case in Georgia related to the 2020 Election there. The elections group VoterGA was in Henry County Court requesting access to the 2020 Fulton County election absentee ballots.

The results of the hearing were very disappointing. It’s as if someone got to the judge.

This is currently the biggest case in Georgia on the controversial election, the other big case was thrown out by another corrupt Obama judge shortly after the election.

Today Judge Amero took a break during the hearing , where the State did all they could to prevent the judge from allowing VoterGA from having access to the ballots in Fulton county to review for validation. The judge then brought in attorneys for corrupt Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to talk on video. Judge Amero then eventually allowed the Raffensperger team the ability to stall the case for another 20 days.

Supreme Court Will Hear Direct Challenge To Roe In December

The Supreme Court will hear a direct challenge to a highly divisive abortion case beginning Dec. 1, the court announced Monday.

Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization deals with a 2018 Mississippi law banning abortions after 15 weeks, a law challenged by the Center for Reproductive Rights, the law firm Paul Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, and the Mississippi Center for Justice on behalf of the last remaining abortion clinic in Mississippi — Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

After the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals struck down the law in December 2019, the state of Mississippi asked the Supreme Court to take up the case.

Dobbs will touch on the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling since the Supreme Court will hear arguments on whether abortion bans prior to fetal viability are constitutional, and the case will be one of the first major abortion cases in which all three of former President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court justice appointees participate, including Justice Amy Coney Barrett, who gained a seat on the court after a contentious confirmation process in October.

At issue is the question of whether all pre-viability bans on abortions are unconstitutional.

“There are those who would like to believe that Roe v. Wade settled the issue of abortion once and for all,” Mississippi’s Attorney General Lynn Fitch said in a July statement regarding the case. “But all it did was establish a special-rules regime for abortion jurisprudence that has left these cases out of step with other Court decisions and neutral principles of law applied by the Court.”

An unborn baby is considered viable at 24 weeks, though medical intervention and a stay in the NICU are usually required this early. Babies born before 23 weeks have a survival rate of about 5% to 6%, and analysis by Charlotte Lozier Institute medical experts found that unborn babies can feel pain as early as 12 weeks.

And Another: Shanghai-Based Property Developer Crashes 87% In Minutes Before It Is Halted

It's not just Evergrande that is about to keel over. Overnight, one of its smaller peers, Shanghai-basedSinic Holdings Groupwhich focuses on the development of residential and commercial properties in China, was halted trading after it shares cratered in a freak 87% plunge on Monday afternoon. The plunge slashed the market value to just under $230 million, which is laughable for a listed developer in the city.

There was no reason for the selloff - an officer at the firm’s Hong Kong office said there’s no one to attend to media inquires which is probably not a good sign - which was attributed to the general panic resulting from Evergrande's imminent default, nor did the company give a reason for the trading halt in Hong Kong.

One thing was clear: selling volumes were off the chart, and as Bloomberg observes, the sudden selloff in the last two hours leading up to the suspension was accompanied by a surge in trading volume that was about 14 times its average in the past year. The liquidation may have been a margin call on a core shareholder who was forced to hit any bid, but we probably won't know for a few days.

Unlike Evergrande, Sinic is not faced with an imminent default, but it does have a 9.5% $246 million bond due on Oct. 18 and Fitch Ratings revised its outlook to negative last week.

"It’s the same story as everywhere else – investors are concerned about the liquidity," said Philip Tse, director and head of Hong Kong and China property research at Bocom International Holdings Co Ltd. “I think there are most likely some margin calls on some of the major shareholders” by looking at Sinic’s stock price pattern this afternoon.

The crash came as Hong Kong’s property gauge plunged the most since May 2020 amid growing investor angst about China’s real estate crackdown and worries that Beijing may tighten grip on the city’s property sector in its “Common Prosperity” campaign. As discussed extensively last night, risk-off sentiment in financial markets exploded on Monday, with contagion from Evergrande spooking global markets, and as Chinese junk bond yields have soared to the highest level since 2011.

I asked Sec. Mayorkas if he will publicly admit the situation at the border is a crisis since he was recorded last month privately admitting there is a crisis and it’s unsustainable.

He did not, instead saying DHS is focused on “meeting the challenge.”
