Valdez, 1969

 

In the summer of 1969, 400,000 young people converged on Woodstock and the world watched Astronaut Neil Armstrong take his first step on the moon. Hillary Rodham was a new college graduate.

 

Valdez was a different world. "New" Valdez was in its infancy, nestled on the edge of the cloudy teal waters of Valdez Arm in Prince William Sound and crowned by the Chugach mountains. Just two years earlier, about 1,000 residents had moved the whole town 4 miles west following the disastrous 1964 earthquake. It would be several more years before construction of the trans-Alaska pipeline and the marine terminal would draw an army of workers to town.

 

In 1969, canneries sometimes put the young, seasonal workers up in primitive bunkhouses, fed them and offered access to the occasional shower that never quite washed off the fish smell. Often workers camped nearby. It wasn't uncommon for college kids to come up from the Lower 48 for the chance to make more than $60 a day. Some would work 12- to 16-hours shifts before heading back to school in the fall.

 

Hillary Rodham has said on many occasions she was one of those young seasonal workers.

 

In 1992, when Bill Clinton was running for president, Hillary Clinton told New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd over dinner about getting fired from her summer job "scooping the entrails of fish" at what she described as a Valdez fish processing plant "when she complained about their unhealthy looking state."

Have you noticed that the Democrats and media have been in panic mode over the past few days? It's so bad that they're actually dragging Biden out of the basement for a "surprise visit" today to battleground Pennsylvania. POTUS has been roasting them over it all day, along with their sagging poll numbers. So what happened? Why the sudden change in campaign strategy? Yes, we all know that their platform and candidate have been politically suicidal for the past year, but that didn't stop them until this week. What specifically triggered the panic?

 

My theory is that they were confident they had the election secured for themselves…until a few days ago. What I think happened is that they need the polling numbers to be within a certain margin in order for their election rigging to work. I suspect it's something like the candidates need to be polling within a very small percentage of each other in order to ensure that there are enough counterfeit votes available to win the state. The Kenosha riot must have blown the polling numbers out of the margins. Now they're not so confident they can rig Pennsylvania for Joe, so they're scrambling to get him over there ASAP. Now they realize they might actually have to campaign, but their candidate and platform are a total mess and mail-in voting starts in only two weeks. No wonder they're panicking worse than at any point this year.

Victoria Police takes breaches of licence conditions and CHO restrictions seriously. Blatant and deliberate disregard of the CHO directions endangers public safety and calls into question a licence holders suitability to be licensed in an area that requires a strong emphasis on safety.

 

Should a licence holder blatantly and deliberately breach the CHO's restrictions, your licence can be suspended, cancelled or may be subject to a reprimand which could harm any future licensing.

John Ratcliffe says he has filed 'crimes reports' over leaks of classified intelligence

 

Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe says he has made multiple “crimes reports” related to leaks of classified information. Ratcliffe, a former Texas congressman who has overseen the nation’s 17 intelligence agencies since May, also defended his decision to shift election security briefings from in-person to in writing over concerns about leaks and politicization during an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures on Fox News. “There are investigations” into potentially illegal leaks and that “I know that because I’ve made a number of what are called crimes reports in connection since I’ve been the DNI," Ratcliffe said. "When I become aware of intelligence community information that is disclosed unlawfully, I do what’s called a crimes report — I’ve done that now on a number of occasions, and so those investigations are moving forward.” The "timing of any prosecutions," he said, "would be something that the FBI would have to address, and I think that they will down the road.” Ratcliffe made the revelations in the context of defending his decision on how the Office of the Director of National Intelligence will brief members of Congress on the election meddling threats going forward.

 

“I’m going to continue to keep the promises that I made, and I’m going to continue to follow the law and continue to keep Congress informed” but arguing that there has been “a pandemic of information being leaked out of the intelligence community — and I’m going to take the measures to make sure that that stops," Ratcliffe said. “When I went through confirmation, people watched that — they heard me make a couple promises. One of them was to always follow the law. The other was that I would do everything I could to protect the unauthorized disclosure of classified information, allowing people to leak it for political purposes,” Ratcliffe said. “The action that I announced yesterday is entirely consistent with that. I reiterated to Congress, look, I’m going to keep you fully and currently informed, as required by the law, but I also said we’re not going to do a repeat of what happened a month ago. When I did more than what was required, at the request of Congress to brief not just the oversight committees but every member of Congress. When I did that, Maria, I said my only condition is that you treat this information with the respect that it deserves and you keep it private, and yet within minutes of that one of those briefings ending, a number of members of Congress went to a number of different publications, and leaked classified information, again, for political purposes, to create a narrative that simply isn’t true, that somehow Russia is a greater national security threat than China.”

 

Bill Evanina, who leads the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, released a more detailed intelligence assessment in early August warning that Russia is actively trying to “denigrate” Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. The same statement also said China “prefers” that President Trump not win reelection and is "expanding its influence efforts ahead of November 2020.” The counterintelligence official also said Iran “seeks to undermine" Trump's presidency. A letter from Ratcliffe to congressional leaders, made public on Saturday, stated that “in order to ensure clarity and consistency across the Office of the Director of National Intelligence's engagements with Congress on elections, the ODNI will primarily meet its obligation to keep Congress fully and currently informed leading into the Presidential election through written finished intelligence products.”

Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) says American taxpayers should not be paying to provide federal unemployment benefits to “Antifa thugs” and those associated with Black Lives Matter (BLM) who have started riots across the United States.

 

Last week, Breitbart News exclusively reported Banks’ newly filed legislation, the Support Peaceful Protest Act, which would make convicted rioters ineligible for federal unemployment benefits and force rioters to pay police officers for the law enforcement they provide during the riots.

 

Banks explained his plan in an exclusive interview with SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Saturday, saying such a policy would have an immediate impact in terms of ending the months-long rioting.

 

“It’s occurred to me over the last few weeks that it’s not just George Soros and left-wing groups like BLM that are funding many of these riots and mob protests that are turning violent in the streets of America’s cities, but if you think about it, you and I are also funding it in a way,” Banks said:

 

These protestors, the Antifa thugs that are showing up and causing so much destruction are also getting $600 a week through unemployment benefits through the CARES Act and the federal benefits that have come about through the coronavirus aid. I want to put a stop to it. If they’re unemployed and they show up on a daily basis, and they’re traveling all over America — especially many of them coming to Washington, DC — the last thing they deserve is our tax dollars going into their pockets to pay the costs for these professional protestors and rioters and causing this kind of ruin and destruction in places like Washington. “Why should hardworking taxpayers in my district have to pay whenever these thugs shut down the streets in places like Washington,” Banks said. “They should be on the hook to pay for it too.”

 

As Banks filed the legislation, a number of attendees from President Trump’s Republican National Convention (RNC) were accosted by Antifa and BLM protesters outside the White House.

 

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and State Rep. Vernon Jones (D-GA) were both accosted, along with others. Breitbart News was on the ground when the instances occurred.

 

Over the weekend, a Trump supporter was shot and killed in Portland, Oregon, where riots have been ongoing for more than three months.

 

“Antifa is getting left-wing funding from some source … they’re not just getting that they’re also getting additional unemployment benefits,” Banks said. “So if we took away those sources of federal tax dollars that are going in their pocket, I think it would put a lot of these guys in a situation where they would think twice about their violent activities in places like Washington, DC.”

CNN’s political commentator Chris Cillizza has faced a torrent of mockery from conservatives, who accused him of whitewashing violence festering in Kenosha, Wisconsin and Portland, Oregon after he opined that referring to the looting, vandalism and arson in both cities as rioting is unjustified and a “desperate” political ploy by US President Donald Trump.

 

“To hear Trump and his allies tell it, the situations unfolding in Portland, Oregon, and Kenosha, Wisconsin, in response to several high-profile shootings by the police of Black men is rioting, plain and simple,” Cillizza wrote in the piece titled ‘'Protests' or 'riots?' It makes a BIG difference.’

 

Trump's efforts to label what is happening in major cities as "riots" speaks at least somewhat to his desperation, politically speaking, at the moment.

 

The choice of the cover photo, which shows two riot police standing in front of the scorched carcass of a burning building, did not escape the netizens’ attention, triggering a meme-fest.

 

Critics have also pointed out that it was Portland police, not Trump, who have declared a riot multiple times in some 100 days since the violence first broke out there.

 

“Serious question: do you have a ballpark idea of how many riots Portland has declared in the last month? And do you think the city is wrong to call them riots?” a commentator asked.

 

It’s not the first time CNN’s coverage of the protests raises eyebrows. Earlier this week, the cable news channel chose to describe violence in Kenosha as “mostly peaceful protests” while showing viewers exactly the opposite, and invoking a torrent of ridicule upon itself.

Man under investigation in fatal shooting after pro-Trump rally allegedly took loaded gun to earlier Portland protest

A 48-year-old man who was accused of carrying a loaded gun at an earlier downtown Portland protest is under investigation in the fatal shooting Saturday night of a right-wing demonstrator after a pro-Trump rally.

 

Michael Forest Reinoehl calls himself an anti-fascist and has posted videos and photos of demonstrations he attended since late June, accompanied by the hashtags #blacklivesmatter, #anewnation and #breonnataylor.

 

Reinoehl was raised in Sandy and has had recent addresses in Northeast Portland, Gresham and Clackamas. He described himself on social media and in a video interview with Bloomberg QuickTake News as a professional snowboarder and contractor who has former military experience but “hated” his time in the army.

 

Sources familiar with the case but not authorized to speak said police are investigating Reinoehl. A family member also identified him as a man captured in photos and video seen leaving the shooting scene shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday.

 

On Sunday, much of his social media filled up with others commenting, posting pointed messages such as “Turn yourself in” to “You better pray to God that the law gets to you first…Because The Patriots are Storming!!”

California lawmakers on Sunday sent the governor a bill that would require greater diversity on corporate boards in the state, saying the shortage of people of color on the panels is a hurdle to racial justice.

The Assembly approved a measure that would require publicly held corporations headquartered in California to have at least one director from an underrepresented community by the close of 2021.

 

Assemblyman Chris Holden (D- Pasadena) modeled his bill on a 2018 law that requires a minimum number of women on corporate boards. He said the lack of Black professionals in the governance of the companies sends a discouraging message.

 

“Women and minorities are underrepresented across white-collar industries, especially at the managerial and executive levels,” Holden told his colleagues Sunday before the floor vote.

 

Lawmakers cited a 2018 study by Harvard Law School that found that out of 1,222 new board members of Fortune 100 companies, 77% were white. In addition, the Latino Corporate Directors Assn. released a survey last month that said 87% of boards for California corporations lack Latino representation.

 

“Corporations have money, power, and influence,” Holden said. “If we are going to address racial injustice and inequity in our society, it’s imperative that corporate boards reflect the diversity of our state.”

 

The legislation would require corporate boards to include at least one board member by the end of next year who self-identifies as Black, African American, Hispanic, Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, Native Hawaiian, or Alaska Native, or as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

 

The measure also requires corporate boards, by the end of 2022, to include a minimum of three directors from underrepresented communities if the board has nine members or more. If a board has five to nine members, it must have at least two directors from underrepresented communities.

SACRAMENTO —Gov. Gavin Newsom will decide whether to escalate a longstanding battle between California and the gun industry over bullet-tracing technology.

The Legislature sent a bill to Newsom on Sunday that aims to compel firearms manufacturers to embrace the technology known as microstamping, which they have long rejected as unworkable, by scaling back standards the state adopted more than a decade ago.

 

Newsom now has a month to decide whether to sign AB2847, which would would require that semiautomatic pistols sold in the state leave a single unique imprint on bullets that are fired rather than two, as currently required. The markings, which reveals a gun’s make, model and serial number, are meant to help law enforcement investigations.

 

Gunmarkers argue that microstamping is unreliable because the etching on a firing pin does not provide a legible imprint on every bullet casing and can easily be removed. They also say its investigative usefulness can be undermined by dropping bullet casings from another weapon at a crime scene to confuse officers.

 

California originally passed its micro-stamping requirement in 2007, calling for gun manufacturers to incorporate the technology within three years. But the law was delayed for years while the state waited for a patent on the technology of the technology to expire and then by a court challenge by gun industry groups, which said the requirement could never be met.

 

Although the state Supreme Court ultimately upheld the law two years ago, manufacturers have simply stopped introducing new pistol models to the California market. Old models without the micro-stamping technology remain on a state list of handguns certified for sale.

 

Assemblyman David Chiu, the San Francisco Democrat carrying the bill, has said he is calling the industry’s bluff. During the legal case, gunmakers acknowledged microstamping was possible, but said it could not be done in two separate places.

 

His measure would increase pressure on manufacturers by requiring the state attorney general to remove three old pistol models from the certified handgun list for each new model introduced in California with the microstamping technology. Chiu said it would ensure that newer guns that have undergone other safety improvements would be available in California.

 

“This is a bill that will assist law enforcement in solving gun-related crimes via microstamping technology and reduce the number of accidental gun deaths and injuries,” Chiu said Sunday on the Assembly floor. The measure passed on a 43-13 vote.

The Kentucky senator’s comments came after he and his wife was confronted by an angry mob in Washington DC while leaving President Trump’s nominating convention acceptance speech Thursday night. Paul said some of activists ended up staying on the same floor of his hotel, furthering his concern for safety. Buck tweeted his concerns on Sunday, saying it was time for DOJ to follow the money. "The Justice Department needs to open an investigation into who is funding these violent riots," Buck wrote. The weekend pressure follows other GOP lawmakers urging DOJ to do more to stop the organize violence plaguing U.S. cities since June. For instance, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., earlier this month urged DOJ to prosecute the suspects caught on videotape beating and kicking a man who crashed his truck near Black Lives Matter protests in Portland, Ore. "This shocking attack by a mob against a young man in the streets of Portland is beyond the pale," Graham wrote.

(Gray News) - Twitter removed a post that President Donald Trump retweeted Sunday because it contained a false claim about coronavirus death statistics, which violated the company’s rules.

 

The tweet, originally posted by a supporter of a baseless QAnon conspiracy theory, claimed that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released data that indicated only 6% of people listed as having died from COVID-19 “actually died” from the virus.

 

But that’s inaccurate.

 

In truth, the CDC data says 6% of death certificates that list COVID-19 indicate it was the only factor in the fatality. The other 94% percent of patients had, on average, two to three “contributing causes”mentioned in addition to COVID-19 on their death certificates.

 

These contributing causes include pre-existing conditions such as heart disease or diabetes, which the CDC has long stated increase a person’s chances of dying from the coronavirus. In addition, factors such as pneumonia that may be caused by COVID-19 may also be listed on death certificates.

 

Just because these patients had other factors that contributed to their deaths does not mean that COVID-19 was not a major reason, or the major reason, they died when they did.

 

In fact, the CDC reports COVID-19 is listed as the underlying cause on the death certificate in 94% of these deaths.

 

The CDC told CNN in July that COVID-19 would be a Top 10 leading cause of death for 2020. While the final ranking will not be available until next year, data from 2018, the most recent year available, indicates COVID-19 will rank third behind heart disease and cancer.

ODNI has rejected a FOIA request from Just the News seeking transparency on spy agency monitoring of journalists.

 

The Office of Director of National Intelligence is refusing to say whether U.S. spy agencies monitor American journalists' overseas phone calls or records that were collected by the National Security Agency, saying revealing the answer could jeopardize its tactics. The ODNI's answer came late last week in response to a Just the News request under the Freedom of Information Act for any records since 2015 that "show the frequency by which professional journalists' phone records were searched via the NSA database and any journalists' overseas conversations were unmasked." "ODNI can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of the requested records," the agency wrote in a letter to Just the News. "The fact of the existence or non-existence of the requested records is itself currently and properly classified, and could reveal intelligence sources and methods information that is protected from disclosure pursuant to Section 102A(i)(l) of the National Security Act of 1947, as amended, 50 U.S.C. § 3024(i)(l)." Just the News is considering appealing the decision and going to court.

 

It is the second such rejection by ODNI in recent weeks for FOIA requests designed to illuminate just how far-reaching U.S. intelligence community monitoring of American citizens has become. The Project for Privacy and Surveillance Accountability (PPSA), a nonprofit where former House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) works as a senior adviser, was rejected recently for records it sought on whether U.S. intelligence has been surveilling past and current U.S. senators and House members. Specifically, the group asked ODNI whether the spy agencies it supervises unmasked the identities of current and past lawmakers known to have been caught up in foreign surveillance, and whether the names of these members were searched through what is known as the "upstream" phone database. The request covered a bipartisan group of 48 current and former lawmakers and their potential surveillance from Jan. 1, 2008 to Jan. 15, 2020. ODNI summarily denied the FOIA with what is known as a "Glomar response," saying confirming or denying such surveillance "could reveal sources and methods information." There is at least one documented instance of executive branch spying on Congress in the last decade.

 

The CIA inspector general concluded in 2014 that CIA officers wrongly spied on Senate Intelligence Committee investigators preparing a report on the agency's terrorist interrogation program. IDF To Unify Cyber Warfare Units

 

The Israeli army has decided to unite its cyber units into one branch, responsible for cyber intelligence gathering, cyber defense and cyber attacks.

Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot recently decided to create a “cyber branch” within the Israel Defense Forces to consolidate all of Israel’s cyber capabilities into a single fist.

This branch will identify the candidates it wants to become cyber specialists, train them, drill them, build up their skills and activate them. It will encompass all operational capacities pertaining to cyber warfare, including defense, offense and intelligence collection.

 

Just like Israel’s air force, it will provide services to all of the IDF’s branches, divisions and commands that require its services.
