According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Montana told deputies that his grandchild was sleeping in a playpen on Saturday when an unknown woman entered their home in Malibu and grabbed the child. Donald Trump said last night 'maybe the Clintons won't get away with it after all' after federal prosecutor John Durham's probe into the FBI's Russia investigation expanded to look into alleged corruption at the Clinton Foundation.

 

Durham, put in charge of the Russia-gate review by Attorney General William Barr, has sought evidence about federal investigations from around the same time which were looking into the Clinton Foundation, sources told The New York Times.

 

Durham's team has revealed that they are comparing the two investigations, as well as looking at whether the Russia inquiry investigators broke the law.

 

It was not clear whether Durham's officials were looking into similar allegations at the Clinton Foundation or to what extent it would feature in the conclusions of his inquiry.

 

Trump last night retweeted conservative commentator David J Harris Jr, who shared a link to an article about the latest developments, writing 'Maybe the Clintons won't get away it after all.'

 

Durham's approach is 'highly unusual,' sources told the Times, and the inclusion of the Clinton investigation suggests that his scope is much broader than previously thought.

 

The Russia probe - into foreign election interference - and the Clinton Foundation inquiry - into alleged bribery and corruption - differ substantively and have involved largely different investigators and prosecutors.

 

It comes amid fears by Trump's opponents that Durham's work is being weaponized politically.

 

Democrats last week called on the Justice Department's inspector general to look at whether Durham's inquiry was impartial after one of his top lieutenants resigned, reportedly over concerns that their findings would be dropped before election day.

Up until he retired from the New Haven Police Department in early September, Jason Bandy was perhaps the policing world’s most aggressive supporter of QAnon. Bandy, who owns a pre-workout vape business, sometimes wears basketball jerseys that show off the full-sleeve tattoos the cover both his arms and his neck while recording episodes of his podcast For The Love, which covers QAnon among a range of other conspiracies.

Windows XP source code leaks online with bonus QAnon content

Anybody who has wanted to take a closer look at Microsoft’s Windows XP can now do so thanks to a helpful 4chan user.

 

Last week the source code for a bunch of older operating systems from the annals of Microsoft were published online.

 

The operating systems include Windows 2000, Windows Embedded CE 3, CE 4, CE 5 and CE 7, Windows NT 3.5 and 4, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

 

The 42.9GB file also contains source code for MS-DOS and the Xbox’s operating system.

 

So, how real is this source code?

 

While Microsoft has not confirmed that the files are in fact its source code if that happens to be the case it could be a bit of a problem for Microsoft.

 

Windows XP is still in use and while Microsoft hasn’t supported the operating system since 2014, in rare circumstances (such as when Wanna Cryptor ransomware hit the web) it does issue software updates.

 

That’s not even taking into account the fact that Microsoft may recycle bits of its operating systems in newer platforms.

It showed a convoy of at least nine military vehicles arriving in the north west of the Gobi Desert, which spans across northern China and southern Mongolia.

 

Troops can be seen liaising with each other before the command to fire a rocket is sounded.

 

The weapon can be seen hitting its target before a cloud of dust erupts from the ground.

 

The footage also shows troops using a drone and weather radars.

 

And other soldiers were videoed moving the powerful long-range missiles into place for firing.

 

As chilling music plays in the background, four rockets are fired at the same time before the clip ends.

 

The Global Times said the operation was deemed a success as all weapons had hit their targets.

 

It said the drone was used by soldiers to examine their targets which were 43 miles away.

The Chinese Government sees Taiwan as a breakaway province that will eventually be part of the country again.

 

While some Taiwanese think this might happen in the future, others now feel that they already effectively have a separate nation whether or not independence is ever officially declared.

 

The dispute with China has left relations frayed with a constant threat of a violent flare up that could drag the US into the fray.

 

What is the history and source of this tension?

The first known settlers in Taiwan are Austronesian tribal people thought to have come from modern day southern China.

 

The island first appears in Chinese records in AD239, when China sent an expeditionary force to explore - a fact Beijing uses to back its territorial claim.

 

After a brief spell as a Dutch colony (1624-1661) Taiwan was administered by China's Qing dynasty from 1683 to 1895.

 

Starting at the beginning of the 17th Century, significant numbers of migrants started arriving from China, often fleeing turmoil or hardship. Most were Hoklo Chinese from Fujian (Fukien) province or Hakka Chinese, largely from Guangdong. The descendants of these two migrations now make up by far the largest population group.

 

In 1895, following Japan's victory in the First Sino-Japanese War, the Qing government had to cede Taiwan to Japan. After World War Two, the Republic of China - one of the victors - began ruling Taiwan with the consent of its allies the US and UK, after Japan surrendered and relinquished control of territory it had taken from China.

 

However in the next few years, a civil war broke out in China and the leader at the time Chiang Kai-shek's troops were beaten back by the Communist armies under Mao Zedong.

 

Chiang and the remnants of his Kuomintang (KMT) government fled to Taiwan in 1949. This group, referred to as Mainland Chinese and then making up 1.5m people, dominated Taiwan's politics for many years, even though they only account for 14% of the population.

 

Having inherited an effective dictatorship, facing resistance from local people resentful of authoritarian rule, and under pressure from a growing democracy movement, Chiang's son, Chiang Ching-kuo, began allowing a process of democratisation, which eventually led to the 2000 election of the island's first non-KMT president, Chen Shui-bian.

George Pell to return to Rome for work with the Vatican months

Cardinal George Pell is set to fly back to the Vatican, just months after being cleared of child abuse allegations against him.

Pell, who formerly worked for the Vatican as Pope Francis' finance minister, will return to Rome tomorrow according to CathNews, the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference's information agency.

 

Pell, 79, was once regarded as the third highest-ranking Vatican official and was attempting to combat the Holy See's financial struggles when he returned to Australia in 2017 to clear himself of decades-old allegations of child sex abuse.

Instead, he became the most senior Catholic to be convicted of child sex abuse crimes.

He served more than a year in jail before the High Court acquitted him in April this year of molesting two choir boys in the late 1990s when he was archbishop of Melbourne.

The Cardinal's return to Rome comes just days after Pope Francis fired one of Pell's most fierce opponents in the Vatican, Cardinal Angelo Becciu, amid an ongoing financial scandal.

UK Parliament bars exempt from 10pm curfew

 

Parliament’s bars are exempt from the government’s new coronavirus restrictions imposed last week, including the 10pm curfew, stricter rules on face coverings and test and trace data-gathering requirements.

 

Bars in the House of Commons are not subject to the new rules for hospitality venues as they are designated β€œworkplace canteens”.

 

Under the new rules, "workplace canteens may remain open where there is no practical alternative for staff at that workplace to obtain food”.

 

As well as being free to remain open beyond 10pm, the new, stricter rules regarding wearing face coverings and customers checking in at venues will also not apply to parliamentary bars, according to a report in The Times.

 

A spokesperson for the House of Commons confirmed that the new restrictions on hospitality do not apply to the venues on the parliamentary estate, saying: β€œAs catering outlets providing a workplace service for over 3,100 people working on the Estate, the current regulations on hospitality venues do not apply to Commons facilities.”

Late 2017. Marjorie Taylor Greene,the 43-year-old founder of a CrossFit gym in a wealthy Atlanta suburb, hops onto Facebook Live, where she will discuss Moloch, the pagan idol of child sacrifice. Greene is wearing a black top, her blonde hair down. Filming before a blank wall, she looks tired but happy, in her element. β€œOkay, now,” she says in a pleasant drawl, β€œhave you guys been following 4chan, Q, any of that stuff? Anybody? I’m going to watch for your comments here.” The anonymous persona Q, purportedly a government mole, had begun posting on the right-wing message board 4chan in late October, about a month before Greene’s livestream. Q’s posts formed the nucleus of a collective belief system that became known as QAnon, whose premise was this: Hollywood and the U.S. government were teeming with pedophiles and demon worshippers, whom Donald Trump was trying to bring to justice with the help of unlikely allies such as Special Counsel Robert Mueller, whose investigation of the president was, in fact, a false-flag operation. To anyone who found this idea implausible, Q had posed a question: Why would a famous billionaire give up his charmed life to run for president? Was it, perhaps, because β€œhe could not stomach the thought of mass murders occurring to satisfy Moloch?”

 

In her livestream, Greene vouches for Q. β€œHe’s posted many things that seem to verify that he is the real deal,” she says. β€œIt’s not just someone poking in the dark, messing with people.” She cites a suspect 2009 email, published by WikiLeaks, in which a State Department official expressed hope that a U.S.-brokered peace accord in Honduras was close to fruition. Greene looks revved up, if unsurprised, by the allegations. As a contributor to a now-defunct website called American Truth Seekers, she had already raised questions about demonic behavior in the ranks of the elite, citing Georgetown hostess Sally Quinn’s habit of β€œhexing” her enemies, the Clintons’ presence at a voodoo ceremony during a 1975 trip to Haiti, alleged child sex abuse by a former mayor of Seattle, the Anthony Weiner scandal, and Jeffrey Epstein’s flight logs. β€œThere’s so much that goes on in our American culture that keeps us distracted,” she says. β€œSo many Americans are blind, and when they hear these stories about pedophiles and they hear these stories about satanic worship, they don’t want to believe it’s true.”

You’d like to think it’s a fluke that a well-off mother of three with no political experience discovered a weird-ass message board, got engrossed in a lurid conspiracy theory, beat out eight rivals for a congressional seat, and became a far-right folk hero. But 81 so-called QAnon candidates ran for the Senate or the House this year, according to a master list maintained by Alex Kaplan of the liberal site Media Matters. With primary season over and a bunch of candidates culled, the list is now finalized: There will be 24 QAnon candidates on the federal ballot in November β€” 22 of them Republicans and two Democrats. And while Greene is by far the most prominent of them, and the likeliest to win, she looks less like an outlier than like the vanguard of a new faction in American politics, heralding an even worse partisan epistemological muddle than the one the country has become distressingly accustomed to over the past decade. β€œHe always intended to return to Rome,” Katrina Lee, Pell’s close friend who is an executive adviser to the archdiocese, told Reuters. She confirmed a report in the Herald Sun on Monday which also said Pell would fly to Rome on Tuesday. Lee said she did not know how long he was going for or the aim of the trip.

A source in Rome told the Guardian that Pell could be visiting an educational institution in the city.

There were rumours Pell was to fly to Rome in April soon after his release from jail, but at the time Lee told Guardian Australia: β€œI don’t think anyone would choose to go to Italy for a holiday – or anything else – in the current Covid-19 crisis. Cardinal Pell is staying in Sydney.”

Pell was not removed from his position managing the Vatican’s finances after returning to Australia in 2017 to face child sexual abuse charges. But when his term expired on 24 February 2019 it was not renewed.

Pell had held the position since 2014 including when he was on trial. He stood aside from the role, however, while he faced the charges against him. He was acquitted of all charges in April 2020 and returned to Sydney after he was released from Barwon prison, located just outside of Melbourne, where he was incarcerated for 13 months.

Pell’s return to Rome follows the resignation on Friday of Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu following accusations of embezzlement, allegations he denies. In a statement to the Catholic News Agency, Pell praised the Pope and welcomed Beccui’s resignation, saying: β€œThe Holy Father was elected to clean up Vatican finances. He plays a long game and is to be thanked and congratulated on recent developments.”

β€œI hope the cleaning of the stables continues in both the Vatican and Victoria,” Pell said.

Following his release from prison, Pell accused Victoria police of engaging in a witch-hunt against him during an interview with his friend, Andrew Bolt. According to a column written by Bolt for the Herald Sun on Monday: β€œBecciu last week vowed to prove his innocence, but now Pell returns, ostensibly to empty his Vatican apartment.”

According to Australian Border Force Covid-19 travel restrictions, international travel exemptions are being provided to those β€œproviding critical skills in religious or theology fields”. Border force has been contacted for comment.

In May, more than 100 previously redacted pages of the findings from Australia’s child abuse royal commission inquiry relating to Pell and what he knew about child sexual abuse within the Catholic church were tabled to parliament. The tabling of the findings was delayed until Pell’s legal proceedings had ended so as not to prejudice the case.

The commission found Pell was aware of children being sexually abused within the Archdiocese of Ballarat by notorious paedophile priest Gerald Ridsdale and other priests, and that it was β€œimplausible” that other senior church figures did not tell Pell abuse was occurring.

China holds simultaneous military drills in four seas, again

BEIJING (Reuters) - China began five military exercises simultaneously along different parts of its coast on Monday, the second time in two months it will have such concurrent drills against a backdrop of rising regional tension.

 

Two of the exercises are being held near the Paracel Islands in the disputed South China Sea, one in the East China Sea, and one in further north in the Bohai Sea, the Maritime Safety Administration said in notices on its website.

 

In the southern part of the Yellow Sea, drills including live-fire exercises will be held from Monday to Wednesday, it said in another notice.

 

All ships are prohibited from entering the area, it said.

 

In a bid to train a combat-ready military force, China holds military drills periodically, but rarely do multiple exercises happen at the same time.

Pope Francis REFUSES to meet US Secretary Mike Pompeo amid Vatican – China row

 

TENSIONS between the US and the Vatican have increased after Pope Francis refused to meet with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

 

However, Mr Pompeo has argued the Vatican should not renew any such deal with China, highlighting religious persecution carried out by Xi Jinping’s government. The Secretary of State wrote in an article for First Things magazine this month: β€œThe human rights situation in China has deteriorated severely under the autocratic rule of Xi Jinping, especially for religious believers.” He added there have been β€œcredible reports” of β€œforced sterilizations and abortions of Muslims in Xinjiang” as well as β€œabuse of Catholic priests and laypeople”. Mr Pompeo was due to meet with Pope Francis to discuss any renewal of the Vatican’s agreement with China this month.

 

The Pope has now refused to meet with the diplomat – though his office stated the reason was due to concerns surrounding impartiality about the upcoming US election, Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported. There are conflicting reports on the current status of the renewal. The Telegraph reported yesterday the accord is expected to be renewed, while Independent Catholic News cites a Reuters report claiming it has already been extended. In any case, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said regarding the agreement there is β€œgood communication” between China and the Vatican.

 

He also claimed β€œCatholicism in China has witnessed sound development”. Mr Pompeo is still due to meet with Paul Gallagher, British archbishop and the Vatican’s US relations official. The Telegraph reports there are two main branches of the Catholic Church within the People’s Republic of China – one recognised by the state, the other unofficial and instead loyal to the Vatican.

 

The row over the relationship between the Vatican and China comes amid reports of religious persecution of the Muslim community in China. In a tweet earlier this month, Mike Pompeo said: β€œNo regime suppresses faith on a larger scale than the Chinese Communist Party. β€œOver 1 million Uighurs and other Muslims have been forced into internment camps, subject to surveillance, torture, forced abortions, and sterilizations – all part of the CCP's decades-long war on faith.”

 

Research from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute recently found China’s network of detention facilities for Muslim minorities in Xinjiang was expanding. In December last year, Shohrat Zakir, the governor of China’s Xinjiang region, claimed people in the facilities have β€œfreedom to come and go”. He added, according to Australian broadcaster ABC news: β€œno force can stop Xinjiang's progress toward stability and development.”

 

At high-level UN meetings last week, French president Emmanuel Macron urged nations to conduct an international visit to Xinjiang to β€œtake into account the concerns that we collectively have on the situation of the Muslim Uighur minority”. He added: β€œFundamental rights are not a Western idea that one could oppose as an interference.”

A Theory About Conspiracy Theories

In a new study, psychologists tried to get a handle on the personality types that might be prone to outlandish beliefs.

More than 1 in 3 Americans believe that the Chinese government engineered the coronavirus as a weapon, and another third are convinced that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has exaggerated the threat of Covid-19 to undermine President Trump.

 

The numbers, from a survey released on Sept. 21 by the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Public Policy Center, may or may not taper off as communities begin to contain the virus.

 

But they underscore a moment when a particular brand of conspiracy theory is emerging in the mainstream: A belief that the β€œofficial story” is in fact a Big Lie, being told by powerful, shadowy interests.

 

At its extremes, these theories include cannibals and satanic pedophiles, (courtesy of the so-called QAnon theory, circulating online); lizard-people, disguised as corporate leaders and celebrities (rooted in alien abduction stories and science fiction); and, in this year of the plague, evil scientists and governments, all conspiring to use Covid-19 for their own dark purposes.

 

Estimates of how many Americans firmly believe at least one discredited conspiracy theory hover around 50 percent, but that may be low. (To paraphrase a popular bumper sticker: If you don’t think someone is plotting against you, you’re not paying attention.) Still, psychologists do not have a good handle on the types of people who are prone to buy into Big Lie theories, especially the horror-film versions.

 

In the most comprehensive analysis to date of people who are prone to conspiracy beliefs, a research team in Atlanta sketched out several personality profiles that appear to be distinct. One is familiar: the injustice collector, impulsive and overconfident, who is eager to expose naΓ―vetΓ© in everyone but him- or herself. Another is less so: a more solitary, anxious figure, moody and detached, perhaps including many who are older and living alone. The analysis also found, at the extremes, an element of real pathology β€” of a β€œpersonality disorder,” in the jargon of psychiatry.

The horseshoe theory, first floated by Jean-Pierre Faye, suggests the Right and Left of politics are not on opposite ends of a linear spectrum but instead almost touch as they meet at either end of a horseshoe-type bend.

 

Ms Le Marquand said this theory has provided an apt picture of the political discourse in Australia this year.

 

β€œOne-eyed views and an inflated sense of entitlement characterise both ends of the political spectrum,” she said.

 

β€œThe extreme Left thunder how offensive it is to suggest that they could possibly have anything in common with the supposedly violent bigots of the extreme Right.

FBI agents arrested Dunbar, 40, earlier in the morning at the West Philadelphia home he shares with his wife, Fatoumata Ndiaye-Dunbar.

Federal prosecutors said that the couple secretly wed in a ceremony in Senegal in 2013, while Dunbar was legally married to another woman, a U.S. citizen he had met as a student at Temple University and had married seven years before.

The earlier spouse, who was not named, sponsored Dunbar, a Liberian immigrant, for a green card in 2009. They divorced shortly after he obtained citizenship in 2017.

Despite the seriousness of those allegations, U.S. Attorney William M. McSwain said Friday that Dunbar’s conduct in an earlier job as a financial adviser for Wells Fargo β€” where he had been accused of stealing $15,000 from two of his clients in 2016 β€” raised questions about his fitness to serve as city treasurer, a post Kenney appointed him to last year.

β€œIt goes without saying that the duties [of Dunbar’s public role] require the treasurer to be a trustworthy public servant β€” someone who is honest beyond reproach,” McSwain said. β€œUnfortunately, the alleged conduct in this case reveals a pattern of dishonor, poor judgment and criminal behavior that spans many years.”

McSwain laid out those accusations at a news conference outside the federal courthouse in Philadelphia, just blocks away from Dunbar’s City Hall office, from which he oversaw the city’s $4 billion investment portfolio and managed city bank accounts, debt obligations, and the issuance of municipal bonds.

A spokesperson for the mayor said the city was not aware of the investigation at Wells Fargo when it offered Dunbar a job as a deputy treasurer in 2016. When confronted by the bank that year, Dunbar denied stealing anything, though prosecutors said Wells Fargo investigators substantiated the claims.

Dunbar remained in custody Friday evening, pending his first hearing next week. It was not clear from court records whether he had retained an attorney.

News of his arrest triggered a swift downfall for a man who had escaped political turmoil and civil war in Liberia only to be named one of Philadelphia’s top financial officers and chairman of the board of a federally backed advisory firm aimed at increasing U.S. investment in Africa.

Dunbar has described himself as a descendant of Harriet Tubman and former Liberian President William V.S. Tubman. He shined at Temple, where he was the captain of the football team and vice president of the dance team before graduating in 2004.

It was there he met Fatoumata Ndiaye, a Senegalese national, who was also enrolled at the university.

β€œI knew I’d ask [her] to marry me within a day of meeting her,” he said in a profile highlighting his work in Africa earlier this year.

And yet, despite that apparent certainty, Dunbar married another Temple classmate β€” one with U.S. citizenship β€” two years after his graduation. Within days,Ndiaye wed one of Dunbar’s football teammates, allowing her to eventually apply for a green card as well. The same former Temple professor served as officiant for both weddings, according to the complaint filed in the case.

β€œThe close timing of [both] marriage ceremonies, the fact that they were students at Temple University at the same time and the use of the same official to solemnize the marriage, suggests there was coordination among the parties," the filing said.

Though they were married to others, the Dunbars acted for years as man and wife, living at the same address on Sansom Street, signing their first child’s birth certificate as a married couple and listing each other as spouses on employment paperwork at their respective jobs, investigators said.

McSwain would not explain Friday why Ndiaye-Dunbar and the two others who had fraudulently married her and her husband had not been charged.

β€œThe investigation is ongoing, as all of our investigations are,” he said. Ndiaye-Dunbar did not respond to calls to her residence.

Dunbar’s arrest makes him the second city treasurer to face federal criminal charges in recent years. Corey Kemp, who held the post under former Mayor John F. Street, went to prison for accepting bribes from a lawyer seeking business with the city.

But unlike in that case, Dunbar has not been accused of misconduct in his public role. And yet, two city offices have launched their own probes into his tenure as treasurer.

β€œI have asked Inspector General Alexander DeSantis to begin a thorough review of the City Treasurer’s Office during the time of Dunbar’s employment as both deputy treasurer and treasurer,” Kenney said in a statement Friday, hours after Dunbar’s arrest. β€œThis review can help resolve any concerns about the office’s conduct and transactions during this period.”

Meanwhile, City Controller Rebecca Rhynhart had previously initiated a separate review into β€œfinancial matters” unrelated to the federal investigation, said a source familiar with that investigation who was not authorized to publicly discuss it.

If he is convicted of the federal charges, Dunbar could face up to 30 years in prison on the most serious count he faces.

ABSTRACT

Inferno is an operating system for creating and supporting distributed services. It was originally developed by the Computing Science Research Center of Bell Labs, the R&D arm of Lucent Technologies, and further developed by other groups in Lucent.

 

Inferno was designed specifically as a commercial product, both for licensing in the marketplace and for use within new Lucent offerings. It encapsulates many years of Bell Labs research in operating systems, languages, on-the-fly compilers, graphics, security, networking and portability.

 

Introduction

 

Inferno is intended to be used in a variety of network environments, for example those supporting advanced telephones, hand-held devices, TV set-top boxes attached to cable or satellite systems, and inexpensive Internet computers, but also in conjunction with traditional computing systems.

 

The most visible new environments involve cable television, direct satellite broadcast, the Internet, and other networks. As the entertainment, telecommunications, and computing industries converge and interconnect, a variety of public data networks are emerging, each potentially as useful and profitable as the telephone system. Unlike the telephone system, which started with standard terminals and signaling, these networks are developing in a world of diverse terminals, network hardware, and protocols. Obama Tries Ditching ACORN

 

Now that he’s settled into the White House, Barack Obama is shamelessly attempting to distance himself from the notoriously corrupt leftwing community group that helped him get elected.

 

The scandal-plagued Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), well known for voter fraud, embezzlement and cooking the books, endorsed Obama and fought hard to get him elected. Not surprising considering the taxpayer-funded group has strong Democratic Party ties (Howard Dean and Bill Clinton praise its activism) and Obama proudly worked for it as a community organizer in Chicago.

 

In 2008 Obama’s presidential campaign paid ACORN more than $800,000 for services such as polling, advance work and staging major events. A Pittsburgh newspaper later reported that Obama covertly amended Federal Election Commission reports to say that the money went to so-called β€œget-out-the-vote” projects rather than the polling activities. The campaign responded to the article by claiming it had β€œmistakenly misrepresented” the services in federal reports.

 

The close ties between Obama and ACORN are undeniable and well documented but lately the radical community group has become a publicity nightmare for the president and he conveniently wants the relationship to vanish, similar to the way he unsuccessfully tried to cut off his controversial, racially divisive longtime pastor and friend (Jeremiah Wright) during the presidential election.

 

Recent ACORN highlights include a congressional investigation deeming it a criminal enterprise, countless voter registration fraud probes nationwide, the guilty plea of a high-ranking official for organizing a scheme that illegally paid workers (including β€œlazy crack heads”) to register voters, housing fraud and videotapes of ACORN employees advising a prostitute and pimp on how to skirt housing and tax laws.

 

The scandals led the U.S. Census Bureau to eliminate ACORN as a community partner for the 2010 count, the Democratic-led Senate to recently cut its funding and California’s governor to call for an investigation of the group’s widespread fraud in his state.

 

No wonder Obama wants to pretend he doesn’t have strong ties to ACORN. At this week’s White House press briefing, Obama’s trusted spokesman condemned the group’s conduct as "unacceptable" and assured the β€œadministration takes accountability extremely seriously.” Oh, and he pointed out that previous administrations have given ACORN plenty of tax dollars.

 

Speaking of, just a few months ago ACORN got multi billion-dollar infusion for β€œneighborhood stabilization activities” from Obama’s economic recovery bill that was supposed to create jobs and stimulate the faltering economy.

Report: No Durham report before election

If this is true, the word β€œbitter” does not begin to describe my disappointment. This is the worst news I’ve seen in a long time. Maria Bartiromo, who has set the standard for reporting on the Russia hoax and associated matters, has excellent sources, and so I must regard her reporting yesterday morning that a report from the Durham investigation before the election is unlikely.

 

There is some wiggle room in the word β€œunlikely” and the sources involved are anonymous, so we are not completely without hope that voters will learn of the depth of corruption deployed against candidate and later President Trump by deep state hoaxsters and Democrats.

Turkey prepares second indictment of six Khashoggi

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkish prosecutors have prepared a second indictment in connection with the 2018 murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul, naming six new Saudi nationals as suspects, broadcaster CNN Turk and other media said on Monday.

 

Khashoggi, a critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was last seen at the Saudi consulate on Oct. 2, 2018, where he had gone to obtain documents for his impending wedding. Turkish officials believe his body was dismembered and removed from the building, while his remains have not been found.

 

Twenty Saudi nationals are already on trial in an Istanbul court for Khashoggi’s killing. CNN Turk said the indictment against the six suspects, including two consulate workers and four other Saudi nationals, was sent to the court to be combined with the main case.

 

Two of the suspects, a vice consul and an attache, were facing life jail sentences for premeditated murder with monstrous intent, the broadcaster said.

 

The four others, who CNN Turk said had arrived in Istanbul on Oct. 10-11, 2018, more than a week after the killing, were charged with destroying, concealing or tampering with evidence, which carries a sentence of up to five years in jail.

 

The Istanbul prosecutor’s office did not immediately provide comment on the media reports.

 

A Saudi court this month jailed eight people for between seven and 20 years for the murder, four months after Khashoggi’s family forgave his killers and enabled earlier death sentences to be set aside.

For years, the falsehoods of the QAnon movement lived on the fringes of the internet.

 

It was a collection of conspiracy theories aimed at exposing a supposed deep-state cabal of pedophiles. But in recent months, despite being baseless and untrue, the theories have made their way to mainstream social media platforms, gaining traction with some celebrities and a swath of congressional candidates.

 

In California, at least four Republicans candidates have expressed interest in QAnon ideas.

 

Three of them have been endorsed by the state party β€” Nikka Piterman and Alison Hayden, who are challenging Bay Area Democrats for Congress, and Erin Cruz, who is running against an incumbent Riverside Democrat. The candidates are running campaigns in strongly-held Democratic districts with incumbent opponents who have outraised them by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

 

Hayden, the Republican candidate in the 15th Congressional District, sees Q as a natural evolution of a distrust in powerful people and institutions that has been growing for decades.

Over a year or more ago, I had this theory that Pientka was the agent that blew the whistle on the FBI, and that’s why he’s in hiding, I think it’s a very plausible theory after reading this

 

This perspective on how the Flynn investigation was managed is important, because it narrows down USA Jensen's focus on the Flynn case. Presumably, Barnett's account will also be supported by or will confirm what Joe Pientka has already told investigators regarding who directed it all. This in turn will help Jensen to pin the decision on opening a basically unpredicated Full Investigation of Flynn on Strzok–and possibly others above Strzok.

 

Pientka's role in all this is interesting. That role is touched on twice. We've already pointed out that it was Pientka who recruited Barnett for the CH Team. It appears that Pientka was trusted by Strzok and worked closely with Strzokfor example, handing Ohr off to Pientka indicates a high degree of trust and confidence. So my guess is that Strzok instructed Pientka to recruit agents for the CH Team who could be relied upon to go along with the plan. From Barnett's account, it doesn't appear that great initiative was a requirement, since he emphasizes that his roleunlike what would usually be expected of a case agent–was basically to follow instructions and not ask questions.

 

I would anticipate that Pientka has been debriefed on his relationship with Strzok. Pientka, on the other hand, appears not to have been totally candid with Barnett. Barnett mentions that Pientka apologized for interviewing Flynn without informing Barnett, the case agentoffering a somewhat lame excuse to Barnett. In fact, we know that Pientka had probably been preparing for such an interview for months, since he was selected to give the National Security briefing to Trump and Flynn for that specific purposeto assess Flynn for possible interview purposes. Barnett surmised in hindsight that he had been "cut out" of the interview, a fact that would be probative of a theory of prosecution that the Russia Hoax/CH investigation was in fact a closely guarded conspiracy, entry to the inner counsels of which was carefully restricted.

 

It was only after the Flynn interview that Pientka seems to have had serious doubts about what was going on, having realized that Flynn was an innocent man being targeted by Strzok and a small group at FBIHQ. It was at that point that Pientka tried to distance himself from the Russia Hoax, and that Strzok tried to insulate Pientka from further involvement. From that point of view, Barnett's corroboration of Pientka could be very useful at trial, and if Pientka can confirm that Barnett's surmise of being "cut out" of the interview is correct, that too would be very useful.

The debate is long-anticipated, and given Joe Biden’s hiding act as deliberate campaign strategy, the first time he may face tough questions from Wallace β€” and Trump. Expectations have been lowered so far for Biden that if he shows up and speaks coherent sentences, the media will declare it a victory. But the American people will get an unfiltered live view.

 

Trump has faced the hostile media with such intensity for so long, there seems less downside, but failing to get a decisive win could be portrayed as a loss.

Redfield voices alarm over influence of Trump's new coronavirus task force adviser

 

WASHINGTON β€” The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has grown increasingly concerned that President Donald Trump, pushed by a new member of his coronavirus task force, is sharing incorrect information about the pandemic with the public.

 

Dr. Robert Redfield, who leads the CDC, suggested in a conversation with a colleague Friday that Dr. Scott Atlas is arming Trump with misleading data about a range of issues, including questioning the efficacy of masks, whether young people are susceptible to the virus and the potential benefits of herd immunity.

 

"Everything he says is false," Redfield said during a phone call made in public on a commercial airline and overheard by NBC News.

 

Redfield acknowledged after the flight from Atlanta to Washington, D.C., that he was speaking about Atlas, a neuroradiologist with no background in infectious diseases or public health. Atlas was brought on to the White House task force in August.

 

Redfield testified before Congress this month that he suspects that a face covering could protect him from Covid-19 better than any future vaccine. Most public health officials share the view that masks are essential to stop the spread of the virus. Still, Trump has repeatedly cast doubt on how useful wearing them may be.

 

"If every one of us did it, this pandemic would be over in eight to 12 weeks," Redfield said before offering a stark warning that contradicted the president's assertion that the country is "rounding the corner" on the pandemic.

 

"We're nowhere near the end," Redfield said.

 

In an emailed statement, a CDC spokesman said: "NBC News is reporting one side of a private phone conversation by CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield that was overheard on a plane from Atlanta Hartsfield airport. Dr. Redfield was having a private discussion regarding a number of points he has made publicly about Covid-19."

 

Before he joined the task force, Atlas was a frequent guest on Fox News, where he pushed to reopen the country and espoused views that more closely align with Trump's opinions during the health crisis. Since his addition to the task force, Atlas has become the medical expert who spends the most time with the president, and his profile has been elevated in recent weeks by his appearing in the White House briefing room when Trump speaks with reporters.

 

Dr. Deborah Birx and Dr. Anthony Fauci, who attended near-daily briefings with the president alongside Redfield in the spring, have, at times, voiced their disagreements with Atlas as the number of coronavirus cases has surged, climbing by 22 percent in the last two weeks, according to data reviewed by NBC News. Two dozen states reported higher numbers than during the previous seven-day period. More than 204,000 people have died of the virus in the United States, with 7 million infected so far.

 

There is a concern among Redfield and others that Atlas continually briefs the president and misrepresents what other health experts have said in sworn testimony, according to a member of the task force.

 

Asked to respond to Redfield's comments, Atlas said in a statement: "Everything I have said is directly from the data and the science. It echoes what is said by many of the top medical scientists in the world, including those at Stanford, Harvard, and Oxford."

 

A White House official responded by saying the president "consults with many experts both inside and outside of the federal government, who sometimes disagree with one another."

 

"He then makes policy decisions based on all of the information to save lives and safely reopen the country," the official said, adding that "everyone, including the president, recommends wearing a mask when you cannot social distance."

 

Fauci and Birx declined to comment.

 

When the president said last week that the virus affects "virtually nobody" who is young, members of the task force, including Redfield, rejected the statement as false.

 

"It's not true," Redfield said in an interview. "We know that the infection is very common. We know the highest-risk group right now is 18 to 25." Redfield pointed out, however, that the president is correct in noting that mortality rates are quite low in that age group.

 

But "when certain other people suggest that this virus doesn't affect children," Redfield added, "they're not correct."

Here are five things to watch for during the 90-minute debate in Cleveland:

 

FLASHPOINTS

The televised match-up comes as Trump faces persistent questions, based on his statements about a rigged election, about whether he will accept the results should he lose. With millions at home watching, how will he respond if Biden pushes him to commit to a peaceful transfer of power?

 

Both candidates will scuffle over Trump’s nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court. Trump is using his pick to rally his conservative voter base and distract from his record on the coronavirus and other matters, while Biden is warning of threats to health care and abortion rights.

 

BIDEN’S MOMENT

For Biden, the debate will serve as sort of a reintroduction. While he has held limited events in some states and given media interviews, the coronavirus pandemic has largely rendered him off stage for months.

 

That has allowed Biden to keep the focus where he wants it: on Trump and his performance in office. But on Tuesday, the Democratic nominee will have to make his own case for the presidency, while giving concise answers and avoiding some of the verbal mishaps that have plagued him throughout his political career.

 

With Biden leading in polls, a strong outing could place Trump in even worse shape. A weak one could reshape the race.

Faced with alarming coronavirus statistics or unrest in the streets, Trump is quick to blame Democratic officials, activists, scientists – anybody but him. One of Biden’s goals will be making sure the public understands that Trump is the one in charge.

Donald Trump on Sunday labeled The New York Times report that he paid just $750 in federal income tax in 2016 and then again in 2017 as 'phony and fake'.

 

Documents show the president paid no income tax in 11 of the 18 years studied, according to a report by the paper. He was able to minimize his tax bill by reporting heavy losses across his business empire, including at his golf courses.

 

That's despite receiving $427.4 million through 2018 from his reality television program and other endorsement deals. The president could also face mounting financial pressure in the years ahead. The tax records show he’s carrying a total of $421 million in loans and debt that are primarily due within four years.

 

Responding to the report Sunday evening Trump told reporters: 'It's totally fake news. Made up. Totally fake news.'

 

The president, who campaigned for office as a billionaire real estate mogul and successful businessman, said he has paid taxes, though he gave no specifics.

 

The Times reported Trump claimed $47.4 million in losses in 2018, despite claiming income of at least $434.9 million in a financial disclosure that year. The Times emphasized the documents reveal only what Trump told the government about his businesses, and did not disclose his true wealth.

first debate

(CNN)For months on the campaign trail, President Donald Trump has questioned Joe Biden's mental acuity and used his branding skills to cast his opponent as someone who isn't up for the job.

 

The wisdom of that strategy will be tested as the two men enter the debate arena Tuesday night.

Trump will meet the former vice president for their first one-on-one matchup in Cleveland, Ohio, in a precarious position five weeks before the election. He faces an imperative to rattle his opponent or force him into a mistake that shakes up the race at a time when he is trailing Biden by nine points in an average of national polls with ballots already being cast and newly on the defensive after a New York Times exposΓ© showing he only paid $750 in federal income taxes the last time he ran for president and his first year in office.

In the lead up to the debate, Trump who has never proved to be a particularly agile debater has shown few signs of a coherent strategy to dramatically alter the course of the race. But these three consequential debates present his last chance to do so. To the chagrin of some of his advisers, Trump has managed to set perilously low expectations for Biden as travels around the country telling voters the former vice president has no idea "what's going on."

It's a thing in FL. Requires two professionals to agree the person will possibly hurt themselves. They can be LEO's, Doctors, nurses, etc.

 

After he is evaluated and they believe he won't hurt himself, they will release him.

The Florida Mental Health Act of 1971 (Florida Statute 394.451-394.47891[1] [2009 rev.]), commonly known as the "Baker Act," allows the involuntary institutionalization and examination of an individual.

 

The Baker Act allows for involuntary examination (what some call emergency or involuntary commitment), which can be initiated by judges, law enforcement officials, physicians, or mental health professionals. There must be evidence that the person:

 

possibly has a mental illness.

is in danger of becoming a harm to self, harm to others, or is self neglectful.

Both of these are defined in the Baker Act.

 

Examinations may last up to 72 hours after a person is deemed medically stable and occur in over 100 Florida Department of Children and Families-designated receiving facilities statewide.[2]

 

There are many possible outcomes following examination of the patient. These include the release of the individual to the community (or other community placement), a petition for involuntary inpatient placement (often called civil commitment), involuntary outpatient placement (what some call outpatient commitment or assisted treatment orders), or voluntary treatment (if the person is competent to consent to voluntary treatment and consents to voluntary treatment). The involuntary outpatient placement language in the Baker Act took effect as part of the Baker Act reform in 2005.
