Once considered for closure in the 1990s under the Base Realignment and Closure program, NAS Whidbey has only grown and become more important to the Navy since. The base also hosts EA-18G Growlers, which are designed to confound and take out enemy radar and other electronics. The future of the Growlers is uncertain as the Navy awaits the outcome of an environmental impact study focusing on aircraft noise.

 

NAS Whidbey is also becoming the remote control center for the MQ-4C Triton, an unmanned aircraft or drone based on the U.S. Air Force Global Hawk. The actual drones won't be based at Whidbey, but at other bases and deployed overseas. The drone pilots will control the aircraft from Whidbey. Today, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) announced the launch of Quantum.gov, the official website of the National Quantum Coordination Office, and the release of the Quantum Frontiers Report identifying key areas for continued quantum information science (QIS) research.

 

β€œWith the launch of Quantum.gov, the White House has created an online home for the National Quantum Coordination Office and a new digital hub for the growing quantum community to connect with wide-ranging activities underway across the Federal Government. The newly published Quantum Frontiers Report lays out critical research questions for the entire U.S. innovation ecosystem to tackle in the years ahead, and will serve as an important roadmap for researchers around the country,” said Michael Kratsios, U.S. Chief Technology Officer.

 

Quantum.gov will feature resources and news on QIS activities from across the Federal government, geared towards both the research community and the public. It will serve as a one-stop-shop for key strategic documents and reports, agency programs, and NQCO initiatives.

 

The Quantum Frontiers Report was developed with input from Federal, industry, and academic leaders to identify priority areas that need continued research to enable the full potential of QIS. This includes harnessing quantum information technology for precision measurements, targeting materials science, and understanding the universe through QIS. The report is intended to focus and organize the entire QIS research and industrial community around key questions in the years ahead.

 

In addition, today OSTP and the National Science Foundation (NSF), brought together members of the National Q-12 Education Partnership for its inaugural meeting to chart a path forward for expanding QIS education opportunities in K-12 classrooms. During the meeting, Intel and Honeywell were announced as the latest industry partners to join the initiative.

 

Established in August 2020, the National Q-12 Education Partnership is a first-of-its-kind public-private effort promoting the development of educational programs, tools, training opportunities, and curricula that help introduce QIS themes at the middle school and high school levels.

USS Kentucky (BB-66) was an uncompleted battleship originally intended to be the second ship of the Montana class. However, the urgent need for more warships at the outbreak of World War II and the U.S. Navy's experiences in the Pacific theater led it to conclude that rather than battleships larger and more heavily armed than the Iowa class, it quickly needed more fast battleships of that class to escort the new Essex-class aircraft carriers being built. Payment company Square is buying a large block of bitcoin, an unusual use of corporate cash. Square said Thursday it bought 4,709 bitcoins, worth approximately $50 million. This represents about 1% of Square’s total assets as of the end of the second quarter of 2020.

We’ve seen what happens when law enforcement officials bend the rules or try to play politics. They do it badly most of the time, and botched investigations, ruined reputations for the want-to-be political players and troubling infringements on the lives and liberties of American citizens all follow.

Durham need look no further than the subject matter of his own investigation to see this: Do we really need to remind everyone of the fall from grace (and rightfully so) of people like James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, just to name a few?

And do we need to remind everyone of the troubling surveillance of Carter Page, an American citizen who, in fact, had been assisting the CIA? Or the ongoing Michael Flynn saga?

Attorney General William Barr has said restoring the impartial administration of justice has been one of the top priorities of his tenure. He deserves kudos for that, and he can reaffirm that commitment by letting Durham do his work, following the facts of the case wherever they might take him.

Sure, this leeway can’t be unlimited, and Barr rightfully has supervisory power as the head of the Justice Department. But Durham has proven himself to be a competent, thorough and thoughtful prosecutor throughout his almost 38-year career at the Justice Department. That’s an impressive bipartisan resume that’s increasingly hard to come by in today’s political climate.

More importantly, there have been recent reports that Durham is still running down new lines of inquiry, such as looking into certain aspects of the Clinton Foundation. But the fact is, we really don’t know what Durham has uncovered, or why he is pursuing these lines of inquiry. And that’s the way it should be. Conduct the investigation, and then release the results when it’s done.

If Durham finds nothing, then we all have the benefit of knowing he conducted an exhaustive review using the tools available to him.

If he finds something, appropriate actions, up to and including criminal prosecutions, can take place. We’ve already seen one such prosecution take place: Kevin Clinesmith, an FBI lawyer, altered an email that agents then relied on when seeking a warrant to surveil Page.

Everyone knows that investigations take time. While it’s important that voters have as much information as possible when they go to the polls, it’s equally, if not more, important that full, fair, impartial investigations be conducted, regardless of the political implications.

After all, β€œEqual Justice under Law” is more than an aspirational goal; it’s a bedrock principle of our legal system. And that can best be achieved when those charged with enforcing the law don’t play politics and simply follow the facts of a case wherever they may lead.

So if Durham can complete his investigation before the election, he should. If he can’t without botching it, he shouldn’t. But whatever he does, he must remember that his role is to enforce the law, not to be a poor-man’s politician.

TORONTO – A group of international scientists is urging a Canadian university to establish an independent investigation into one of its professor's research that links fluoride in drinking water to lower intelligence in children.

 

The 14 experts and researchers from six different nations issued a letter last month to York University in Toronto asking for a review of Christine Till's work on fluoridation to determine whether her "ideology is being misrepresented as science."

 

"We believe that some or all of Dr. Christine Till's fluoride publications might well contain significant error… Therefore, we are acting on our moral duty to make this belief known by asking you to establish an international, independent, expert committee to determine whether our concerns are justified," the letter read.

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that is present in nearly all water sources and is associated with reduced tooth decay. The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) says fluoride molecules can strengthen teeth by hardening tooth enamel, contributing to tooth surface re-mineralization, and deterring oral bacteria.

 

For decades, governments around the world have added fluoride to public drinking water to reduce rates of tooth decay in children and adults.

 

Till and Simon Fraser University professor Bruce Lanphear conducted an observational study in August 2019 looking at 512 mother-child pairs from six major Canadian cities, 40 per cent of which lived in communities with fluoridated municipal water.

 

The study found that children whose mothers were exposed to higher levels of fluoride in their tap water during pregnancy scored lower on IQ tests than those with mothers who had less exposure while pregnant.

 

Signatories behind the letter issued to York University say there is not a proven cause-and-effect relationship between fluoride and IQ scores.

 

Till told CTVNews.ca that the letter is a "glaring misrepresentation of the rigour" of her research.

 

"Our study underwent extensive scrutiny to meet the scientific standards for publishing in the highest-ranking pediatric journal in the world. Policy makers, health professionals and scientists must have access to all high-quality evidence to make informed decisions," Till said in an email on Thursday.

 

"It would be unacceptable to censor scientific results because they do not conform to a certain set of beliefs," she added.

 

Jennifer Meyer, a population health sciences professor at Alaska's College of Health and one of the letters signatories said Till's study is "egregious and deviates sharply" from accepted scientific practices.

 

"Professor Till and Dr. Lanphear appear to be engaged in trying to prove, through publication of questionable studies, that their claims are somehow rigorous while ignoring other studies which have found no such associations," Meyer said in an email on Wednesday.

 

Meyer and the other signatories from the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Chile claim that Till is using her platform to advocate against pregnant women drinking fluoridated water, despite shortcomings in her research on the topic.

 

"The behaviour needs thorough investigation because the members of the public in many nations are at risk of harm if shoddy science, in any quantity, becomes the basis of public health policy," Meyer said. "Every day that York University does not address the issue of Dr. Till’s methods, is another day that pregnant women and children are harmed."

 

York University President Rhonda Lenton sent its faculty members an emailed statement last week in response to the letter, restating the school's "unequivocal support of academic freedom."

 

"We must always defend the right of students, professors and instructional staff to express their views and conduct free inquiry. It is, however, not required that we agree with the content of that speech. Free expression, especially on controversial topics, is best regulated by vigorous counter-speech. It is not appropriate for the University to decide which side of a particular issue is correct," Lenton said in the statement.

 

Lenton added that the university will not censure any members of its community for their research or their public comments made in the course of their scholarly work "within limits prescribed by law and applicable policies governing the responsible conduct of research."

 

"Where serious threats are made against academic freedom, we will not hesitate to stand up on behalf of our community," she said.

 

Till's findings were published in the JAMA Pediatrics journal. At the time, the journal defended its decision to publish the paper, noting that the decision was "not easy."

I agree 100%. That said, it does bother me greatly how the media runs hit pieces 24/7 on one side and runs interference on the other.

 

I thought 2016 was bad but that was nothing compared to this. How can a country have a legitimate election process with these circumstances ? You can't, especially when the left controls the media, the entertainment industry, the schools, most of the government, pop culture, and the D.A.'s.

 

It is really, really disheartening on that front but on the other hand, they have had to pretty much destroy the entire country just to give Joe Biden a shot at winning so what does that say about them ?

 

Biden has had enough gaffes in just the past 30 days to end his campaign, if only the media blackout didn't exist.

 

In a true free and fair election with an honest media, Trump wins in a Reagan style landslide.
