Durakoglu said the State Department is aware China is trying to limit Taiwan's international space. She added the U.S. will β€œcontinue to publicly express its support for Taiwan, collaborate with Taiwan on initiatives that demonstrate the value it brings to the international community, and encourage like-minded countries' engagement with and public demonstrations of support for Taiwan,” according to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release.

 

Durakoglu's comments were in response to a recent letter from U.S. Congressmen Scott Perry and Tom Tiffany, calling on the State Department to pay closer attention to China’s suppression of Taiwan’s international space.

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday expressed gratitude for Washington’s concerns about China's suppression of Taiwan’s international space. It said that since taking office, U.S. President Biden has stressed β€œrock-solid” support for Taiwan and has demonstrated this through concrete actions. What’s interesting about the revelations from this week is not that the FBI is up to some new, clever gambit to combat the wily insurrectionists in our midst.

……So the FBI does the heavy lifting in these cases. The suspects start out by talking about jihad or revolution or overthrowing the government, and someone in their chat group decides he should tell the FBI.

 

The people the FBI sends in to look at the chats or communicate with the suspects aren’t just a fly on the wall. They offer to help. They offer bombs. They offer direction. They suggest targets.

 

They tell the suspects they need money for the cause. They ask them when they can fly to Syria or Iraq or wherever.

 

The Intercept did some marvelous reporting on this in 2017. They noted, quite correctly, that in hundreds and hundreds of cases the FBI and Department of Justice had brought to trial there were no victims of violence, and the FBI informants were the primary driving characters in the fictional worlds the suspects had been caught up in.

 

In case after case, it’s the FBI that creates the illusion of the ability to do harm. There are no bombs, no ability to launch an attack. There is no group ready to meet and support them, no weapons smugglers, or expert marksmen. There is only the anger of a lonely person screaming into the void of the internet, and the only one who answers that screaming is the FBI.

 

So what’s interesting about the revelations from this week is not that the FBI is up to some new, clever gambit to combat the wily insurrectionists in our midst. What is interesting is they are right back to pulling the same tricks they used on wannabe al-Qaeda and ISIS dopes for the last 15 years.

 

Why is the assistant director of the FBI’s Washington Field Officeβ€”Anthony D’Antuono, who is heading the investigation into the January 6 riot at the capitol and was previously in charge of the Detroit Field Officeβ€”doing these things? He’s never known another way. He had been an FBI agent only three years on 9/11, and all that time he was a forensic accountant. This is how the FBI has run these kinds of investigations his entire career.

 

The problem is not that we’re going to find out that the January 6 case is going to be full of FBI agents and informants, just like the Whitmer kidnapping case. The problem is we are starting to understand this is standard procedure for counterterrorism.This is a 20-year-old charade the FBI brass has been pulling.

 

The FBI didn’t let the crisis of 9/11 go to wasteβ€”they seized on it to dramatically increase their funding and power. They suddenly took the β€œlead” on terrorism all over the United States. Before 9/11, they had treated terrorism as an ugly footnote. The people on the USS Cole bombing case remember working out of basement offices, part-time, as al-Qaeda grew more powerful, better funded, and trained hundreds of people in Afghanistan.

 

Once the FBI was in charge, there were lots of new GS-15 positions, offices to fill, and money to spendβ€”and boy, did they. In 2001, the FBI wanted $1.5 billion for counterterrorism and only got $500 million. In 2002, they asked for $200 million more. In 2003, they asked for $285 more. And so on. The total FBI budget was about $3.5 billion in 2002. It’s more than $10 billion today.

 

Now, 20 years later, with Osama bin Laden dead and the United States leaving Afghanistan, do we think those GS-15 positions, or those Joint Terrorism Task Forces, or the Foreign Terrorist Tracking Task Force, are going to go away? No. They need work to justify those budgets, and America needs a new enemy.

 

The difference is that the government has begun to use the tools that were developed to fight a credible foreign threat now to fight against the political opponents of Democrats.

The PokΓ©rus (Japanese: ポケルス PokΓ©rus), from "PokΓ©mon virus", is a microscopic life-form that may attach to PokΓ©mon, first appearing in the Generation II games.It is a beneficial mechanic that a PokΓ©mon can obtain.

 

When a PokΓ©mon has the PokΓ©rus, it gains double the effort values from battling (e.g., fighting a Magikarp will give two Speed EVs, rather than one). Effort points gained from vitamins and wings are not doubled. The infected PokΓ©mon can infect other PokΓ©mon with the virus for a period of one to four days. However, the PokΓ©rus timer can be delayed by several methods such as by placing the infected PokΓ©mon in a PC Box.

 

While it is represented similarly to status conditions, the PokΓ©rus is not a status condition, so it cannot be healed at a PokΓ©mon Center or with any status condition healing item.

 

PokΓ©rus has a 3 in 65,536 or approximately a 1 in 21,845 chance of being generated on one of the player's PokΓ©mon after a battle, making it rarer than encountering or hatching a Shiny PokΓ©mon. If any of the player's PokΓ©mon are infected, the PokΓ©rus may spread among PokΓ©mon in the player's party after any battle.

 

From Generation IV onward, the PokΓ©rus became more accessible, with worldwide trading facilitated by Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

 

Infection

When a PokΓ©mon is infected with the PokΓ©rus, their status screen will display an icon indicating this special "status" the same way status conditions would be noted. If the PokΓ©mon becomes affected by a status condition such as Sleep, the PokΓ©rus icon will be temporarily replaced until the status condition is cured. As long as the PokΓ©mon is infected with the PokΓ©rus, it can spread the virus to other PokΓ©mon in the player's party.

 

The PokΓ©rus may spread if an infected PokΓ©mon is in the player's party after a battle. The PokΓ©rus may only spread to a PokΓ©mon directly adjacent to an already infected PokΓ©mon and only if they have never had PokΓ©rus before. Eggs may catch the PokΓ©rus like any other PokΓ©mon.

 

Becoming cured

A PokΓ©rus infection only progresses towards cured status when a new day starts with the infected PokΓ©mon in the party (or if, when the game is loaded, it is not the same day as it was when the game was saved). The number of days before a PokΓ©mon will be cured of the PokΓ©rus can vary from one to four days. Once this time has passed, the PokΓ©mon becomes cured and will be immune to the virus in the future. The PokΓ©mon still gains double effort values when cured.

 

Due to the beneficial nature of the PokΓ©rus, players will often place an infected PokΓ©mon in the PC where it will keep the infection indefinitely, so that it may be withdrawn to spread the virus at will. Other options include putting a PokΓ©mon in the Day Care or sending it to Stadium 2 in Generation II, PokΓ©mon Box Ruby & Sapphire in Generation III, My PokΓ©mon Ranch in Generation IV, PokΓ©mon Bank in Generation VI and Generation VII, or PokΓ©mon HOME in Generation VIII.

 

In Generation III, if the player deposits an infected PokΓ©mon inside a PC, saves inside a PokΓ©mon Center prior to midnight, shuts off the game, resumes the game after midnight, withdraws the infected PokΓ©mon from the PC, and exits the PokΓ©mon Center, it is possible for the infected PokΓ©mon to be cured of the PokΓ©rus upon stepping outside of the building. This does not happen in any other generation.

 

Technical information

The PokΓ©rus is stored in a PokΓ©mon's data structure as a single byte. In hexadecimal, this can be represented as a two-digit number XY. The upper 4 bits of the byte, X, represent the specific strain of the PokΓ©rus the PokΓ©mon has contracted. The lower 4 bits, Y, represent the number of days remaining before the infected PokΓ©mon is cured of the virus.

 

A PokΓ©mon is or has been infected if X (the strain) is a nonzero value. If Y (days remaining) is nonzero when X is also nonzero, this means the PokΓ©mon is currently infected. If Y is 0 and X is nonzero, then the PokΓ©mon is "cured" of the PokΓ©rus. If both X and Y are 0, then the PokΓ©mon has never been affected by the PokΓ©rus.

 

Whenever the game's internal clock strikes midnight, every currently infected PokΓ©mon in the player's party has their PokΓ©rus value decreased by one. Once the Y value reaches 0, the PokΓ©mon will be cured of the PokΓ©rus.

 

Strains

Whenever the game creates the PokΓ©rus on a PokΓ©mon, the value assigned to Y (days) depends on the value assigned to X (strain). Specifically, the number of days will be set to X modulo 4 + 1. In other words, the higher two bits of X are irrelevant to the "strain".

There is some question about who is being paid to develop the prototypes for San Francisco's new trash cans. According to SFiST, Institute for Creative Integration (ICI) has contracted "to create the prototypes". According to the San Francisco Chronical, Advanced Prototype Engineering LLC (APROE) has been contracted "as the industrial designer". If 2 companies are being paid to develop the prototypes, does that double the price? Remember hearing somewhere that repeats are important. Perhaps they are providing different services on the same project, do any Anons know how to track California spending?

 

Did a little digging on ICI and APROE.

Oakland, CA based ICI's website, in Anon's opinion, provides as little information as is possible, while still having a website (masks are a thing, pic related). Theyleverage "Francisco Bay Area and Amsterdam", "investigate and obtain insights intohuman and social behaviors" and "run longitudinal studies on people's behavioral change". ICI (founded in 2010) partners with Springtime Design, a "creative force" based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Spring time hastentacles around the world(are they saying global without saying global?). Springtime Design says, "Design is our game, and we love to play!" Springtime displays some logo's, which Anon assumes represent their clientele (some familiar logos are among them).

 

San Francisco based Advanced Prototype Engineering LLC's website provides more information on their website, while still coming off (in Anon's opinion) as shady. Maybe it's the fact that their "people" page literally has shaded sketchy pictures of their personnel. The site recommends an article in "Company Week", where we learn that the company was founded in 2006. "APROE has some well known clients.
