AreguΓ‘ - After the brutal robbery of the German archaeologist and his daughter in Paraguay, there is a spectacular turning point. The police have arrested a German, reports the news agency dpa. At least two other German citizens are wanted, said the head of the homicide department of the national police, Hugo Grance, on Tuesday the radio station "Monumental". All three are suspected of being involved in the crime and possibly being behind it.

The bodies of the 62-year-old and the 14-year-old girl were discovered in the family home near AreguΓ‘, around 30 kilometers southeast of the capital AsunciΓ³n. According to the Federal Foreign Office, the incident occurred on October 22nd. Both victims died from gunfire, presumably from the same weapon, said forensic doctor HΓ©ctor Meza. The father was killed with a shot in the neck - there are indications that he had previously been tortured. His daughter was found in a bathtub filled with water.

 

An acquaintance of Bernhard von Bredow and his daughter was first at the house, which at the time looked like a battlefield.

US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy on Tuesday warned against β€œmisleading memes” and β€œcherry-picked stats” in the Biden Regime’s new efforts to stamp out Covid vaccine β€˜misinformation.’

β€œWith the authorization of COVID-19 vaccines for children 5 to 11 years old, it is more important than ever that families have access to accurate, science-based information. Health misinformation is spreading fast and far online and throughout our communities,” Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy said in a press release Tuesday. β€œThe good news is that we all have the power to help stop the spread of health misinformation during this pandemic and beyond. That’s where this toolkit comes in – to provide Americans withβ€―resources to help limit and reduce this threatβ€―to public health.”

The new β€˜toolkitβ€˜ (screenshot below) tells Americans not to share information about the Covid vaccines until they check with their overlords at the CDC first.

You must check with your overlords before sharing Covid vaccine information:

Did you check with the CDC or local public health department to see whether there is any information about the claim being made?

Did you ask a credible health care professional such as your doctor or nurse if they have any additional information?

Did you type the claim into a search engine to see if it has been verified by a credible source?

Did you look at the β€œAbout Us” page on the website to see if you can trust the source?

β€œIf you’re not sure, don’t share,” the toolkit states.

In addition to the Biden Regime’s efforts to stamp out β€˜misinformation,’ the Pfizer CEO on Tuesday said people who β€˜spread misinformation’ about Covid vaccines are β€œcriminals.”

The rubber hits the road Friday in the Zahau family’s lawsuit against Sheriff Bill Gore when a Superior Court judge hears arguments on whether the suit itself can go forward.

 

Relatives of Rebecca Zahau β€” whose 2011 Coronado mansion death was deemed a suicide by the Sheriff’s Department but a homicide in a civil trial β€” want access to all investigative files in the case, plus records of what Gore told a β€œreview team” after that civil verdict.

 

Pari Zahau (Rebecca’s mother) and Mary Zahau-Loehner and Douglas Loehner (sister and brother-in-law) say the California Public Records Act requires Gore and the county to release records in the sensational case.

 

Gore, represented by county lawyer Thomas DeΓ‘k, notes that the records act allows him to withhold investigative files from public release and wants the suit killed.

 

But Judge Timothy B. Taylor, at a 1:30 p.m. hearing Friday in downtown Superior Court, will consider the Zahau family’s argument that the suit should be kept alive β€” with a rescheduled Jan. 28, 2022, hearing on its actual request for the records.

 

Zahau family attorney C. Keith Greer at first told Times of San Diego that the January hearing would likely stand.

 

β€œThis is really a question of law regarding whether a public agency can make a statement to the public about what they are doing, and then be able to deny access to documents which show that in fact they are lying to the public,” the Rancho Bernardo lawyer said late Friday night via email.

 

But calling it an β€œinteresting issue,” he then said the case would β€œlikely … go to the [state] court of appeals.”

 

Greer added Sunday: β€œThe hearing on Friday is very important because it could result in dismissal of the case. Which would move the battle to the appellate court. Conversely, a ruling in our favor bodes well for our chances of succeeding on the merits at the final hearing.”

 

Late Tuesday, Greer clarified that he wasn’t expecting defeat.

 

β€œI think we will win, but whoever loses will file an appeal,” he said via email. β€œIn other words, no matter what the judge decides, this case will go to the court of appeal.”

 

County attorney DeΓ‘k declined a request for comment, saying: β€œI am not authorized to discuss the matter while it is pending.”

 

Dueling briefs argue for and against the county’s demurrer β€” which tells the court that the allegations in the lawsuit do not provide legally sufficient reason for Gore to be sued.

 

If Judge Taylor sustains the demurrer β€” and doesn’t allow the Zahaus to submit a revised complaint β€” the case would likely be dismissed.

 

In a September filing, DeΓ‘k wrote that the county demurs because:

 

The records the Zahaus seek are law enforcement investigatory files, exempt from disclosure under CPRA.

The disclosure of some investigatory files waives the exemption only for the disclosed files.

And no partial disclosure exemption waiver can occur under the CPRA as a matter of law.

Likewise, DeΓ‘k says, the Zahaus can’t cite a law saying the sheriff’s instruction on how to proceed with a probe aren’t also β€œexempt” investigatory files under the CPRA.

 

A Nov. 1 brief by the Zahau family attorney quotes an October 2011 letter from Gore to the Zahaus that said: β€œThe Sheriff’s Department is complying with this requirement not merely by releasing the information required by statute, but by releasing the complete investigative file.”

Lawyer Greer writes: β€œThe Sheriff’s written statement is clearly sufficient to make it a question of fact as to the Sheriff’s β€˜actual intention to relinquish’ the [CPRA] exemption or, alternatively, to constitute β€˜conduct so inconsistent with any intent to enforce the right’ as to induce a reasonable belief that it has been relinquished.”

 

Greer said Gore also waived rights to withhold information on the case by publicly disclosing what the β€œreview team” was allegedly doing.

 

β€œSuch publications show that Sheriff Gore clearly either wanted to convince the public that the Department was performing a fresh investigation, or at a minimum acted in a manner so inconsistent with any intent to keep what the β€œreview team” was doing secret, so as to induce a reasonable belief that any right to secrecy over what the team was doing had been relinquished.”

 

All the Zahaus are asking is β€œdocumentation to confirm that what Sheriff Gore advised the β€˜review team’ to do is consistent with what he told the public they were doing,” Greer said.

 

As alleged in a revised lawsuit, the Zahaus think that Sheriff Gore’s statements to the public were intended to make it believe he was reopening the investigation.

 

β€œ[But] in fact these representations were intentionally deceptive and cleverly orchestrated to hide Sheriff Gore’s true intention and plan, which was to give lip service to the investigation while putting constraints on the β€˜review team’ that were so stringent they could not do anything other than support Gore’s prior decision,” Greer said in the brief.

 

In a footnote, Greer said his clients have asked the sheriff to produce correspondence between officers involved in the investigation and all interdepartmental memoranda, detective notes and detective workbooks, and records reflecting why Gore didn’t try to obtain cell phone records of Adam Shacknai,” whom the civil jury found responsible for Rebecca’s death.

 

DeΓ‘k in a September brief challenged the logic of the Zahau suit.

 

The county lawyer took issue with arguments that β€œsince the sheriff has already allegedly produced the complete β€˜investigative file’ … any additional documents relating to the investigation are admittedly not part of the β€˜investigative file’ and thus not subject to the privilege afforded” under CPRA.

 

DeΓ‘k continued: β€œOne may conclude β€” as a matter of pure logic β€” that, if all β€˜investigative files’ have been produced, then no β€˜investigative files’ have been withheld.”

 

β€œHowever,” he added, β€œ[The Zahaus] do not allege the Sheriff, in fact, produced all investigative files; rather, they allege the Sheriff β€” in 2011 β€” purported to produce all investigative files.

 

β€œMoreover, to the extent [Zahaus] allege the Sheriff did produce all investigative files, then it is unclear what records [the Zahaus] contend have been wrongly withheld (i.e., there is no allegation that [the Zahaus’] requested records unrelated to the Zahau Investigation).”

 

Greer in April said he planned a book about the Zahau death if the investigation was reopened.

 

In April 2018, after a San Diego jury found the brother of Rebecca Zahau boyfriend Jonah Shacknai responsible for her death, sheriff’s candidate Dave Myers said: β€œAs Sheriff, I will reopen the criminal case with a new set of eyes.”

 

Running again in 2022, Myers still follows the case closely. Monday, in reaction to a KUSI report on the Zahau case, he said: β€œWhen the evidence doesn’t match up, law enforcement has an obligation to investigate why.”

Brian Williams has announced he’s quitting MSNBC next month after nearly three decades with NBC News.

While on Nightly News on Friday, January 30, 2015, Brian misrepresented events which occurred while he was covering the Iraq War in 2003. It then became clear that on other occasions Brian had done the same while telling that story in other venues. This was wrong and completely inappropriate for someone in Brian’s position.

In addition, we have concerns about comments that occurred outside NBC News while Brian was talking about his experiences in the field.

As Managing Editor and Anchor of Nightly News, Brian has a responsibility to be truthful and to uphold the high standards of the news division at all times.

Steve Burke, Pat Fili and I came to this decision together. We felt it would have been wrong to disregard the good work Brian has done and the special relationship he has forged with our viewers over 22 years. Near as I can tell, and by the looks of everything we've all seen to date, it appears as though Kyle Rittenhouse will be found NOT guilty. Honestly, it's not even close.

 

But if you listened to fake news outlets you'd have no idea what's actually transpired or that the facts, many of them jaw-droppingly bad for the prosecution, ONLY trend in Kyle's direction.

After a scandal that has dragged on for more than a year and led to the firing of one of the Holy See's most senior officials over a handful of shady London property deals that were bleeding millions in losses, the Vatican has finally decided to rip the bandaid off and sell a luxury office building in London's Knightsbridge neighborhood for a loss of Β£100MM ($135MM).

 

Per the FT, the Vatican is in the final stages of selling 60 Sloane Ave., a large building in the Knightsbridge district of London, for about Β£200MM ($271MM) to private equity group Bain Capital. Bain Capital and Savills, which is managing the sale, both declined to comment. Senior Holy See officials - including Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu, the second-in-command of the Vatican's powerful Secretariat of State - invested a total of €350MM ($405MM) of money donated to the Catholic Church for charitable purposes in London properties including the Sloane Ave. building between 2014 and 2018.

 

Vatican investigators say the money was taken from Peter’s Pence, an annual donation given by Catholics around the world which, according to the Vatican, is intended "for the many different needs of the universal church and for the relief of those most in need."

 

At one point, the Vatican had a plan to convert the London building into luxury flats. Instead, the building has ended up at the heart of a scandal that has forced the Vatican to overhaul completely the way it manages its finances.

 

Late last year, Pope Francis stripped the Vatican's powerful central administration office of an investment portfolio worth hundreds of millions of euros comprising donations from the world's 1.2 billion Catholics.

 

Several property agents who spoke to the FT expressed surprise at the losses generated by the deal.

 

"I couldn’t quite understand how they [the Vatican] had lost money on it," said one agent with decades of experience in the London office market.

 

Whatever transpired during the deal, it appears to have reached "the Godfather III" levels of shadiness as Vatican prosecutors have charged a former Italian banker with crimes including embezzlement and fraud. The Vatican's prosecutors recently paused charges against the banker and a small group of alleged co-conspirators including a cardinal. The prosecution is now in a state of legal limbo.
