Attorney General Merrick Garland tests positive for Covid hours after event with FBI director, other top officials

Attorney General Merrick Garland tested positive for Covid on Wednesday, just hours after speaking in person at a press conference alongside FBI Director Christopher Wray and other top Biden administration officials.

Garland, who is not symptomatic, asked to be tested for the virus after learning he may have been exposed, the Department of Justice said in a statement. He is fully vaccinated and boosted against Covid, and will work from home while isolating for five days, the Justice Department said.

The attorney general is not considered to be a close contact of President Joe Biden, a DOJ official told CNBC. Their previous meeting was a week earlier at an outdoor signing ceremony in the White House Rose Garden, the official said.

Garland over the weekend had reportedly gone to a white-tie dinner attended by hundreds of politicians and journalists, a growing number of whom have since tested positive for Covid.

Another attendee, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, received a positive test result earlier Wednesday.

Reps. Joaquin Castro of Texas and Adam Schiff of California, who were also at the dinner, tweeted out their own positive Covid test results on Tuesday.

Joe Biden’s Released Tax Returns Don’t Explain Millions In Income. Where Did It Come From?

The sources of President Joe Biden’s large income after he left his post as vice president have never been detailed in his tax returns.

In the week prior to the presidential election, I wrote a piece that asked the question, “Where Is Hunter Biden’s Money?” It was an important question then, even more so now. Given the legacy media’s recent validation of Hunter’s laptop that discussed a slice of equity planned for the “Big Guy” in a deal that involved an entity controlled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), we should know if any money from it (or other foreign sources) ended up in Joe Biden’s pocket, but we don’t.

Recall that despite then-presidential candidate Biden having bragged that he had released his tax returns with what his team called “a historic level of transparency,” the truth is that he only released his individual returns. Those returns provided no detail regarding the source of most of his income, dollars that flowed to him and his wife Jill by way of S-corporations they set up shortly after his departure from the office of vice president. Those entities, CelticCapri Corp (his) and Giacoppa Corp (hers), contained more than $13 million of the $17 million the couple had reported in income after Biden left office, most of it in the first year (2017).

The same media that ignored Hunter’s laptop has shown a complete incuriosity about these entities, accepting the premise that Joe and Jill raked in $13 million from their book deal to generate their huge increase in income. We simply don’t know if that’s true, though. What we do know is that their book sales were dismal.

Perhaps sensing smoke starting to build just before the election, USA Today published a “fact check” piece that attempted to support that the Bidens earned “$15.6 million … from speaking fees and book deals” in the years 2017 through 2019 and that “more than $10 million of that total income was profits from Biden’s memoir ‘Promise Me, Dad’ and $3 million in profits from Jill Biden’s book.”

Follow the source link provided to that $10 million number, though, and you’ll end up at Joe Biden’s campaign website with financial disclosure links to only their individual returns — no S-corporation tax returns. So, in reality, readers were left with a smokescreen. (Now the financial disclosure links for 2016, 2017, and 2018 have even been changed to connect to a Democratic National Committee fundraising site via ActBlue rather than the tax documents.)

I noted back in 2020 that, “While (Joe Biden’s) financial disclosures reasonably support the $2.7 million of net income reported by CelticCapri in 2018, a notable $8.7 million gap exists between its $9.5 million net income in 2017 and the $809,709 of disclosed income in that year from book tour and related speaking events. Since his disclosure covers only part of 2017, we lack the insight into other income that may explain it.”

To that obvious question, the legacy press simply yawned. But it will become increasingly harder for them to maintain a head-in-the-sand position as more information arises.

Founder of Barbeques Galore Peter Woodland, 75, has died in a helicopter crash

He was piloting the helicopter when it crashed just east of the Snowy Mountains

Mr Woodland's partner was also killed in the helicopter crash late Monday night

The cause of the crash is not yet known and are piecing together final moments

Barbeques Galore founder Peter Woodland was flying the four-seater helicopter that crashed near the Snowy Mountains, killing two people.

Mr Woodland, 75, was killed along with his wife, 64, about 200m east of the NSW Snowy Mountains late on Monday night.

The Sydney businessman was the co-founder of outdoor recreation retailers Barbeques Galore and BeefEater Barbeques.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Kiandra Flats around 11.55pm on Monday after a request from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority rescue centre.

Australian Transport Safety Bureau chief commissioner Angus Mitchell said an investigation was still piecing together the final moments of the helicopter's journey.

'We're still piecing together the last movements and indeed the last day or so of this helicopter,' Australian Transport Safety Bureau chief commissioner Angus Mitchell said.

'We do know that it was flying on Sunday, quite likely in company with a number of other helicopters.

'We don't know where it's launched from at this stage and whether it's refuelled. We don't believe that there was a distress call made.'

Superintendent John Klepczarek described the scene as 'horrific'.

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the crash but said the helicopter – a red and white Bell 206 Jet Ranger – had landed early from a trip on Sunday, possibly due to poor weather.

As it stands, we’re left to trust USA Today that Jill grossed $3 million (royalties plus about $700,000 from speaking fees) for a book that sold only 7,000 copies in its first week, and that from that book deal she netted more than $1 million in the two years prior to its release, but only $175,319 in the year it was published (2019). It’s possible an advance was paid, but could a publisher have justified that amount?

We are told that Joe netted $12.2 million (after expenses) in the same deal for a book that sold 300,000 copies. Excluding the $4.2 million earned from touring and speaking, that yields $8 million of income that we are to assume came from book royalties (higher if we know his gross revenues before expenses).

For analysis purposes, consider that his book had a retail price of $27 for hardcover and $18 for paperback, and assume a reasonable mix of sales so the average price was $23 (with no discounting). On 300,000 books sold, gross revenues would’ve been just under $7 million. As an author, Joe would’ve likely received about 12 percent of that using a blended royalty rate (15 percent hardcover and 7.5 percent paperback typical from publishers), yielding about $800,000 income. Round it up to $1 million if you prefer. Double it. It’s still not close to $8 million.

Sure, he likely got an advance, but would a publisher have advanced that kind of money to an author whose prior work, “Promises to Keep,” sold only 49,000 copies?

So many questions.

Release the Full Tax Returns

Rather than ask for proof of sources of income, the media has been stuck in a repeating cycle of reporting about whether Joe and Jill underpaid payroll taxes. That’s a valid question, but it may miss the much larger one: Where did all of that money come from after Biden left office?

To that end, tax returns are a valuable investigative source document. Since the days of Al Capone, the rule has been clear: Don’t ever fail to pay taxes on any income, even if shady. It’s the easiest conviction for a prosecutor. So it’s logical that all income would be reported, and for any potentially over the ethical or legal line, an upstream S-Corporation would serve as the perfect mechanism to obscure it from view.

On a matter of this importance, all possibilities must be fairly considered until proof is established one way or the other. The president may have completely valid sources for all of his income, and if so, he should demonstrate it, particularly given the evidence of foreign money flowing through his son and indirect references to himself.

In releasing Biden’s tax return last year, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki commented that the “release (of) the president’s tax returns … should be expected of all presidents.” Surely she would agree this means the full set of documents.

If this question involved former President Donald Trump and one of his sons, The New York Times and The Washington Post would already be howling for full disclosure, and they would be right to do so. So perhaps they will join now in saying, “Mr. President, please clear the air of all doubt — release your full tax returns.”

Elon Musk May Save Twitter, but He Won’t Solve Big Tech

As refreshing as it is to see Silicon Valley face an honest-to-goodness free speech challenge, it bears repeating: the fact that it’s taken a billionaire (with deep commercial ties to China) buying a board seat on Twitter to even possibly move the needle is a troubling statement about who controls our public discourse and how it is done.

The Big Tech companies increasingly control not only the flow of information but access to the digital marketplace as well. Musk may force Twitter to bend the knee – and that would be a welcome development.

At the very least, as “Breaking Points” co-host Saagar Enjeti recently pointed out, it will either improve the platform or provide a useful data point about the limits of shareholder advocacy.

Regardless of what happens at Twitter, the power and market concentration of companies like Google, Facebook, Apple, and Amazon continue to grow unchecked. And quixotic billionaires are in short supply. Without meaningful congressional action on everything from antitrust to data privacy to Sec. 230, the public square will still remain stifled.

Wind developer admits killing 136 bald and golden eagles in $35M settlement

A U.S. wind power developer pleaded guilty to multiple violations of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act after its wind turbine blades allegedly killed more than 135 bald and golden eagles across the country.

The company, ESI Energy, pleaded guilty Tuesday to three counts of violations in the form of golden eagle deaths. Prosecutors said the birds were documented to have been killed by blunt force trauma after being struck by its wind turbine blades at its facilities in Wyoming or New Mexico, where ESI had not applied for the necessary permits.

As part of the settlement, ESI “acknowledged that at least 150 bald and golden eagles have died in total” at its 50 U.S. facilities since 2012, federal prosecutors said, including at least 136 deaths that were “affirmatively determined to be attributable to the eagle being struck by a wind turbine blade.”

As part of its plea deal, ESI also agreed to pay a hefty settlement, which includes nearly $1.9 million in fines, $6.2 million in restitution, and an additional fee of up to $27 million, payable over the next five years, to help mitigate future eagle deaths at its facilities

ESI is also tasked with applying for federal permits at each of its 50 facilities across the U.S. where future bald or golden eagle deaths have been documented or are otherwise predicted.

Bald and golden eagles are currently protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, which prohibits the killing and wounding of eagles without permits from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

“The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has a long history of working closely with the wind power industry to identify best practices in avoiding and minimizing the impacts of land-based wind energy facilities on wildlife, including eagles,” said Edward Grace, assistant director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Office of Law Enforcement.

“This agreement holds ESI and its affiliates accountable for years of unwillingness to work cooperatively with the Service and their blatant disregard of wildlife laws, and finally marks a path forward for the benefit of eagles and other wildlife resources entrusted to the Service’s stewardship," Grace added.

Three other apparent Russian soldiers, including one with an obvious head wound who has his hands tied behind his back, are seen dead near the victim. All are wearing camouflage, and three have white arm bands commonly worn by Russian troops. Equipment is scattered around them.

The soldiers are lying in the road a few feet from a BMD-2, an infantry fighting vehicle used by Russian airborne units. (Thanks to @RALee85 for the vehicle identification.) Some appear to have had their jackets, shoes or helmets removed.

The video was filmed on a road just north of the village of Dmytrivka (50.464987° 30.182556°). The location was first identified by open source researchers and confirmed by us. It is around seven miles southwest of Bucha, where recent Russian atrocities have been alleged.

Trump’s comments came during an exclusive interview here at his Mar-a-Lago resort on Tuesday evening when Citizens United president David Bossie premiered his group’s new documentary film Rigged: The Zuckerberg Funded Plot to Defeat Donald Trump. The film analyzes the approximately $400 million that Zuckerberg funneled to local election offices in predominantly Democrat areas in swing states nationwide. The film demonstrates that former President Barack Obama’s former campaign manager David Plouffe—among many other hard-left Democrat operatives—oversaw the distribution and spending of the money, and that while some Trump counties and precincts got some grants, the overwhelmingly vast majority of the cash flowed into inner cities that boosted Democrat turnout.

“Every American needs to see Rigged in order to take away the education that this film provides so that every American understands how Donald Trump didn’t lose the electionbut how it was for months beforehand set up for him to not be able to win,” Bossie told Breitbart News at the premiere. “He says it was stolen or rigged—it is. That’s what Mark Zuckerberg did. Mark Zuckerberg spent $400 million to put his thumb on the scale to make sure that Joe Biden won the election.”

A stunning 92 percent of the Zuckerberg cash in 160 different large grants totaling over $400,000 per grant—$270 million of the money in total—went to areas that now-President Joe Biden, a Democrat, won. The film explores, too, the justification for the issuance of the grants, which was supposedly to have “safe” elections as the coronavirus pandemic raged in the United States—even though no medical experts were ever employed by the array of nonprofits that Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan used to pump the money out.

“This is somebody that put up $417 million,” Trump told Breitbart News. “Nobody has ever heard of a thing like that. Yet if you go more than $5,600 they put you in jail. So nobody has ever heard of a thing like this where they put in $417 million. Think about it—if you go $100 more than the $5,600 they do very bad things to you. It’s a disgrace and they shouldn’t be allowed to. If they get away with this, it will be a true disgrace to America. This, again, what this movie is about—it’s really a beautiful movie, I’ve seen just a part of it and I’m looking forward to seeing the whole thing—but it’s really something that reveals what went on in one aspect of the theft. “Citizens United, they’re a very strong and very smart group of people,” Trump told Breitbart News. “Dave Bossie has done a wonderful job, and all of the board. What they’ve done is revealed one of the many ways they rigged the election. This was a rigged election. Now even the New York Times came out and said they didn’t report the Hunter Biden story because of the fact that if they had done so before–let’s face it–it would have amounted to 17 points in the polling. Trump also called on Republicans to “get a lot tougher.”

The fox responsible for biting people at the U.S. Capitol has been euthanized

A red fox that was captured Tuesday and responsible for biting at least one journalist, a lawmaker and at least seven others has been euthanized, according to health officials in Washington, D.C.

In an email to NPR, the D.C. Department of Health said Wednesday that there were nine confirmed bites by the adult female fox on Capitol Hill and that it had been "humanely euthanized" to ensure rabies testing could be done.

The results of the rabies test are expected later Wednesday, according to DC Health.

"No other foxes were found on the Capitol Hill grounds, but it would not be uncommon to see more as there are many present throughout the District," DC Health said.

The fox was captured at about 3:36 p.m. Tuesday, according to a tweet from the police.

There were many sightings of the fox Monday night, and "then word came in of roughly six bites and/or nips," a Capitol Police spokesperson told NPR over email Tuesday.

The fox was spotted around the Dirksen Senate Office Building and the Russell Senate Office Building, as well as on the House side of the U.S. Capitol, the police spokesperson told NPR.

"[We] just learned people have seen foxes before, but this recent aggressive behavior is unusual," the spokesperson added.

The following message was sent to House members and staff by the Office of the Sergeant at Arms on Tuesday regarding the fox:

Yesterday, the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) received reports of individuals being attacked or bitten by a fox. One encounter was at the Botanic Garden, and a second was on the House side of the Capitol near the building foundation. This morning, USCP received a call about a fox approaching staff near First and C Street NE. There are possibly several fox dens on Capitol Grounds. Animal Control is currently on the grounds seeking to trap and relocate any foxes they find. Foxes are wild animals that are very protective of their dens and territory. Please do not approach any fox you see.

Rep. Ami Bera, D-Calif., was reportedly bitten by the fox Monday night, according to Punchbowl News. Politico reporter Ximena Bustillo said it bit her Tuesday afternoon.

Disney bragged that Schake has more than three decades of experience working in government, media, business, entertainment, and technology. Most recently, she was appointed by Biden to lead the federal government's national COVID-19 vaccine education campaign. She has previously served as the Global Communications Director for Instagram and in 2016 she was the deputy communications director for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. Before that, she served in the Obama administration as special assistant to the president and communications director to the first lady.

Disney set itself up as a political punching bag for Republican politicians like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis this year when the company took an activist position opposing Florida's Parental Rights in Education law. The law prohibits classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in grades K-3, but Democrats and progressive activists inaccurately labeled it the "Don't Say Gay" bill, alleging that GOP politicians wanted to hatefully attack trans kids.

Caving to pressure from LGBTQ+ employees and outside groups, Disney CEO Bob Chapek spoke out against the law and the company issued a statement declaring, "Our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts," leading to multiple public confrontations with DeSantis.

Disney has increasingly signaled it will take more action to appease the left and alienate conservatives. In March, leaked videos from a corporate meeting showed Disney executives and producers boasting about implementing "gay agenda" content directed at children and families.

The hiring of a veteran Democratic communications pro like Schake continues the company's political drift leftward.

Moscow won’t rule out breaking off relations with Western countries if they continue expelling Russian diplomats

If Western countries continue to expel Russian diplomats, Moscow won’t rule out the possibility of severing diplomatic ties with the states concerned, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned on Wednesday. He explained that the recent wave of expulsions threatens continued diplomatic relations.

“There is such a potential risk, since every day we are faced with such hostile actions. The expulsion of diplomats is a decision that closes the window of diplomatic relations,” he told the French TV channel LCI, when asked if Moscow would consider breaking off ties after dozens of its envoys were declared persona non grata in NATO capitals.

Italy, Spain, and Denmark expelled a total of 70 Russian representatives on Tuesday, following Monday’s decision by Germany and France to exile 35 and 40, respectively.

The expulsions were ordered after images of civilians allegedly killed in the town of Bucha, northwest of Kiev, were released by the Ukrainian government and Western media. Kiev has accused withdrawing Russian troops of massacring civilians in what it claimed to be an act of genocide. Moscow has denied the allegations and said Ukraine, and some of its foreign backers, were waging a fake news campaign.

Western countries began expelling Russian diplomats even before the claims about Bucha, however. Over 40 Foreign Ministry employees were sent home from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Ireland on March 29. Poland not only expelled 45 diplomats – claiming they were really spies – but also froze the Russian embassy’s account on March 3, in violation of the Vienna Convention governing diplomatic relations between countries.

While neither the US nor its allies have officially severed diplomatic relations with Moscow after the escalation of hostilities in Ukraine, they have rolled out a series of sanctions and restrictions to de facto freeze out Russia from what they describe as “the international community.”
