In early 2022, Trial Sites News reported how von der Leyen was embroiled in scandal when a group of independent MEPs demanded her immediate resignation and full disclosure of a series of private text messages between her and Pfizer’s CEO, Albert Bourla. Only a small portion of these texts were ever disclosed. Of the ones that were, they revealed her negotiating portions of a European-wide vaccine deal, unilaterally with Bourla via a series of texts! Clearly standard protocols in Europe were thrown out the window in favor of expediency and this seemingly was tied to a unified competitive pressure on all three regulatory agencies.

Wathion lays bare his reflections after this particular TC, and shockingly writes how ‘the political fall-out seems to be too high even if the “technical” level at the MSs [Member States] could defend such a delay in order to make the outcome of the scientific review as robust as possible.’ Put another way the continuous broadcast of science first appeared as a cover for politics first.

Molina/Rahim is “accused of conspiring with a South Carolina man to provide services to ISIS by administering a chat group to share pro-ISIS propaganda and instructions on firearms training and bomb-making.” What was that you were saying again about “white supremacists” being the biggest terror threat the nation faces today?

Molina was very clear about his allegiances, writing in an online chat: “Let it be clear, I am against America. America is my enemy.” He and another American, Kristopher Sean Matthews, or rather, Ali Jibreel of Elgin, South Carolina, to commit “Netflix worthy” terror attacks at Trump Tower and the New York Stock Exchange, which they thought would gain them “rock star status.”

Molina wrote: “We need to stick together, we need to defeat them, we need to take a lot of casualties, a lot of numbers.” Matthews stated: “I would hit places like that to send a message.” According to the legal complaint against the pair, Molina “also described attacking communications centers and plans to ‘fortify a town barrier and establish the first bases or establish a HQ.’” Both Molina and Matthews pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS), discussed traveling to Syria to join up with the jihad group, and even tried to make contact with an ISIS operative who would help them get there. Molina pursued his jihad online, posting instructions on how to train to handle an AK-47 along with directions on how to build a bomb.

This raises a question that has come up many times before, but has never been answered: why do so many converts to Islam come to hate their own country? Nor are Matthews and Molina by any means the first Americans converted to Islam to try to join ISIS. Spc. Hasan Edmonds, a Muslim member of the U.S. Army National Guard, was arrested in 2015 at Chicago’s Midway Airport; he had been planning to join the Islamic State. His cousin, Jonas “Yunus” Edmonds, was arrested as well. They had allegedly been plotting a jihad attack against a U.S. military facility — making Hasan Edmonds the latest in a long line of people who convert to Islam and then turn traitor.

Is it just a coincidence that so many converts to Islam come to regard the country in which they were born and raised, the land of their families and forefathers, as an enemy? Or is there some connection?

Hasan Edmonds clearly believed that his new religion required a shift of his allegiance. “I am already in the American kafir [infidel] army,” he told an informant in January, “and now I wish only to serve in the army of Allah alongside my true brothers.”

Far-right conspiracists have spread false claims that the Buffalo and Uvalde shootings were hoaxes.

False flag claims are often used to push against gun control or frame incidents as government plots.

Experts told Insider these false flag accusations have increased and mutated in recent years.

Almost immediately after news broke of the deadly mass shootings this month in Buffalo and Uvalde, far-right extremists and QAnon influencers began spreading false claims that these killings were a hoax. The reaction has become common among conspiracy theorists, who have repeatedly taken tragedies and distorted them to fit their extremist narratives.

The day of the Buffalo shooting on May 14, when a white supremacist killed 10 people at a supermarket, one prominent QAnon influencer told his 84,000 followers on Telegram that the incident was a false flag operation. Following the shooting last week at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, in which 21 people including 19 children died, the same influencer reiterated his claims that the killing was a false flag. Another prolific, anti-Semitic QAnon conspiracist claimed that "false flag shootings abound" on the day of the Uvalde killings.

These baseless conspiracy theories circulated so widely in some online circles that fact-checkers needed to debunk the blatantly false claims.

Regardless of the amount of genuine video and photo evidence circulating, false flag claims now spread after every shooting. Experts told Insider these sorts of baseless conspiracy theories have started spreading easier and quicker across social media platforms in the last few years. They're being used by conspiracists to push back against gun control laws and frame tragedies as nefarious government plots against citizens, aligning with other far-right conspiracies like QAnon.

Sara Aniano, a disinformation and extremism researcher, told Insider she's seen a number of wild false flag accusations. Some of them echo false claims spread after previous tragedies, such as the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012, where far-right conspiracists accused parents of victims of being crisis actors. Far-right and conspiracist communities have also spread false flag accusations about numerous incidents besides shootings, including everything from the September 11 terrorist attacks to the Capitol Riot in January 2021.

Aniano said the far-right's prevailing theory is that these recent shootings were false flags – incidents blamed on one entity when actually perpetrated by another – or government psy-ops "orchestrated intentionally by the FBI or CIA" to support gun control.

Aniano said one worrisome component of these newer false flag theories is that some of the believers think everyone involved isn't a crisis actor, and some people did die in these attacks. Conspiracists promoting these allegations have shifted the narrative because it's easier for their followers to believe that children actually died than that they were all crisis actors, Aniano said.

"They just don't believe the shooting was done organically," Aniano said. "The narrative there is that the government is deliberately killing children in order to push gun control laws."

Italian model Pietro Boselli has built a massive following across social media by sharing workout tips, fashion campaigns, and an endless stream of thirst traps. He’s partnered with brands like Tommy Hilfiger, posed for the cover of GQ Italia, and attracted a large fan base among gay men for, well, obvious reasons.

He’s been featured on Queerty a few (dozen) times over the years, as well as nearly every gay lifestyle publication, and counts among his Twitter followers drag queens, queer entertainers and major Pride organizations. Speaking to Attitude in 2016, he even said his involvement in the fashion industry has helped him “to become more involved in the gay community.”

“For me, that’s been huge in terms of evolving as a person, who I am, understanding different viewpoints,” he said.

But is the admiration shown by queer fans really reciprocated? A dive into his recent Twitter activity suggests not.

Boselli links to his Twitter account from his official website. He currently has over 90K followers (small change compared to the 2.9 million on Instagram), but only follows 80 accounts. Scrolling through the accounts he follows, several names raise eyebrows — there’s Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, and other outspoken conservatives like Candace Owens, Caitlyn Jenner, Ben Shapiro and Peter Thiel.

Of course, following someone’s feed and agreeing with their politics don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand, but a deeper dive into individual tweets Boselli has ‘liked’ begin to paint a picture.

Here’s a post by Owens that Boselli liked from October 2021 that denies the very existence of transgender people:

Report Shows Kansas Law Enforcement Seized $21 Million From People, Most Of Whom Were Never Charged With Crimes

A new report on asset forfeiture arrives at the same conclusions every other report on the subject has: forfeiture makes money for cops, does almost nothing to stop illegal activity, and rarely, if ever, results in criminal convictions. (via CJ Ciaramella at Reason)

The new report [PDF], put together by the Americans for Prosperity Foundation (AFPF), takes a look at the forfeiture racket in Kansas. Fortunately, a new law mandates more detailed reporting on forfeitures, meaning the AFPF actually had some data to work with.

Not that it’s necessarily comprehensive or accurate data. Law enforcement agencies have way more enthusiasm for inconsistently enforcing laws than they do for complying with them. A deep dive into the data performed by a Kansas news outlet found the reports delivered by agencies was incomplete, inaccurate, and outdated. It also discovered the overseer of this mandate — the Kansas Bureau of Investigation — didn’t seem to care that the information it was being given was inaccurate or incomplete.

Sometimes you just have to work with what you have, which is what the Foundation has done. What already looks pretty bad might be even worse than it appears. What it does show is it’s steady work for the state’s cops, even if it’s not really the sort of work that actually delivers results to anyone but the law enforcement agencies profiting from seizures.

The report points out the $21 million collected over the last two years is the equivalent of walking off with $13,000 of other people’s property every day. But that $13k/day takes a few hours to add up. To reduce the likelihood of losing what they’ve seized, most forfeitures involve amounts that are too small to result in serious legal challenges.

In many cases, the cost of recovering the property is greater than the value of the property seized. The Institute for Justice estimates the average cost to hire an attorney to fight a simple state forfeiture case is $3,000. Half of all seizures in the KASFR database have a value of $3,100 or less. Most people whose property has been seized by Kansas law enforcement are better off forfeiting what was taken.

This is why Kansas law enforcement agencies have been able to hold onto 91% of the property they’ve seized. And they’ve done so while securing a conviction in less than a quarter of all forfeiture cases. The small percentage who’ve managed to get their property back have engaged in protracted legal battles and endured law enforcement stonewalling. The average time from seizure to return of property in Kansas is 419 days.

Sure, there are some exceptions to these rules. Occasionally, cops make a really big bust.

Last year, a Kansas county sheriff ’s office worked with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (“DEA”) to seize $165,000 from an armored vehicle.

The van was transporting the proceeds from legal medical marijuana sales made in Missouri to Colorado. The DEA surveilled the vehicle as it retrieved cash from legally operating dispensaries, then alerted a Kansas sheriff ’s deputy when the van re-entered Kansas. The sheriff ’s deputy stopped the vehicle and seized the cash without charging the driver with a crime or even issuing a traffic citation.

Sounds impressive. It isn’t. The DOJ has already returned $1.2 million seized from this same cash transport company by California law enforcement. The company, Empyreal, is still suing Kansas law enforcement for the DEA-aided seizure detailed above. How does seizing money from a company transporting legally-obtained cash help fight the Drug War? It doesn’t. And no one in Kansas law enforcement or the DEA seems to care.

As long as it remains profitable, Kansas law enforcement will continue to participate in this somehow-lawful scam. But at least the new reporting mandates will give us an idea how much of mockery of justice it has become in that state.

ATLANTA (AP) — The Georgia prosecutor investigating the conduct of former President Donald Trump and his allies after the 2020 election is trying to compel U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and other members of Trump's campaign legal team to testify before a special grand jury.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on Tuesday filed petitions with the judge overseeing the special grand jury as part of her investigation into what she alleges was “a multi-state, coordinated plan by the Trump Campaign to influence the results of the November 2020 election in Georgia and elsewhere.”

Willis also filed petitions for five other potential witnesses: lawyers Kenneth Chesebro, Cleta Mitchell, Jenna Ellis, John Eastman and Jacki Pick Deason. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney signed off on the requests, which are similar to subpoenas, deeming them necessary to the investigation.

The special grand jury has been investigating whether Trump and others illegally tried to meddle in the 2020 presidential election in Georgia as he desperately tried to cling to power after Democrat Joe Biden's victory. Trump continues to insist that the election was stolen, even as he eyes another presidential run, despite the fact that numerous federal and local officials, a long list of courts, top former campaign staff and even Trump's own attorney general have all said there is no evidence of the fraud he alleges.

The investigation is separate from the congressional committee that has been examining the events surrounding the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 as well as the Department of Justice's own sprawling probe.

The escalation comes as Trump mulls announcing a third presidential run as soon as this summer as he seeks to deflect attention from the ongoing investigations and lock in support before a long list of other potential candidates, such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, make their own moves.

Willis, who took this unusual step of requesting a special grand jury earlier this year, has confirmed that she and her team are looking into a January 2021 phone call in which Trump pushed Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” the votes needed for him to win the state. She also has said the team is looking at a November 2020 phone call between Graham and Raffensperger, the abrupt resignation of the U.S. attorney in Atlanta on Jan. 4, 2021, and comments made during December 2020 Georgia legislative committee hearings on the election.

In the petition submitted to the judge, Willis wrote that Graham actually made at least two telephone calls to Raffensperger and members of his staff in the weeks after the November 2020 election. During those calls, Graham asked about reexamining certain absentee ballots “in order to explore the possibility of a more favorable outcome for former President Donald Trump,” she wrote.

A Graham spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In the petition for Giuliani’s testimony, Willis identifies him as both a personal attorney for Trump and “a lead attorney for the Trump Campaign’s legal efforts seeking to influence the results of the November 2020 election in Georgia and elsewhere.”

As part of those efforts, she wrote, he and others appeared at a state Senate subcommittee hearing at the Georgia Capitol on Dec. 3, 2020, and “provided testimony, additional witnesses, and documentary evidence purporting to demonstrate the existence of election fraud in multiple Georgia counties” during the November 2020 election. None of that has been substantiated.

Among the “evidence” Giuliani offered was a video recording of election workers at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, which he alleged showed them producing “suitcases” of unlawful ballots from unknown sources, outside the view of election poll watchers, Willis wrote.
