When human beings act, they do so with an end in view. Man’s action, what he does, represents a means to an end, which may be morally good or bad. Action proceeds from the will, and is born of thought, which is an act of the intellect. What we do is determined by who we are (all our faculties: memory, intellect and will). Scholasticism summarises this concept perfectly in three words: agere sequitur esse.

 

No one acts without a purpose. And even what has been happening before our eyes for more than two years now is the consequence of a set of concomitant causes that presuppose an initial thought, an informing principle, so to speak. And when we realise that the reasons given to us to justify the actions taken are not rational, it means that these reasons are pretexts, false reasons, which serve to hide an unmentionable truth.

 

This is the way of the Evil One. When he tempts us, he lies to make us believe that he is our friend, that he cares about our good. Like a fairground peddler, the devil offers us his miraculous finds, his elixirs of happiness and wealth, for the modest sum of our immortal soul. But this, like a swindler, he omits to say, of course; at most he writes it in small print in the clauses of the contract.

 

Everything is a lie when it comes to Satan. The premises are false: Your God oppresses you with heavy precepts. The promises are false: You can decide and get what you want. And everything is a lie too when Satan’s minions are organising to establish the dystopia of the New World Order.

 

Well, since we cannot expect the Great Reset conspirators to tell us clearly what their final goal is – since it is something unmentionable and criminal – we can nevertheless reconstruct the mens, the thought that guides their actions by knowing the principles that inspire their actions and backing them up with their own words. And we are also able to understand that the reasons given are only pretexts. And yet the pretexts, as they are presented, demonstrate malice and premeditation, for if their plan were honest and good, they would not need to disguise it with illogical and incoherent excuses.

 

But what is this Great Reset? It is the forced imposition of a fourth industrial revolution that will lead the present economic and social system to implosion, and will allow, through a general impoverishment and a drastic reduction of the population, the centralisation of power in the hands of an elite of aspirants to immortality and world domination. Israeli Billionaire Appeals Bribery Conviction in Switzerland

 

An Israeli mining billionaire begins on Monday an appeal against a landmark foreign bribery conviction handed down in Geneva early last year.

 

Beny Steinmetz, 66, was convicted of bribery and forgery over his company’s acquisition of mining rights in the West African nation of Guinea in the late 2000s.

 

A Swiss judge found that Steinmetz’s company BSG Resources Limited (BSGR) paid millions of dollars in bribes to the wife of Guinea’s former president to gain access to the world’s richest untapped deposits of iron ore in Guinea’s remote Simandou mountain range.

 

Some of the funds passed through private bank accounts in Switzerland, where Steinmetz was a tax resident.

 

The mining billionaire was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay 50 million francs ($56 million). Frederic Cilins, 59, a French national who participated in the scheme, was sentenced to three-and-a-half years. Sandra Merloni-Horemans, 52, a Belgian national who administered hundreds of companies in Steinmetz’s corporate group, received a two-year suspended sentence.

 

Mark Pieth, Professor Emeritus at the University of Basel and President of the Swiss anti-corruption group Basel Institute of Governance, described as “spectacular” Steinmetz’s guilty verdict in January last year.

 

“There have been quite a few settlements in Switzerland for foreign bribery, but very few cases of actual convictions by a court. It is certainly the most spectacular one.”

 

Steinmetz will do anything to defend himself because he “realizes, if he loses the battle at this moment, he’s done. He’s finished, he’s not only at risk of being extradited, he is no longer in business, he’s got a really bad reputation," Pieth explained.

 

BSGR won mining rights in 2008 under the presidency of Lansana Conté, who had ruled Guinea since seizing power in a military coup in 1984. After Conté’s death, an investigation carried out by the government of newly elected President Alpha Condé found BSGR had won the mining rights through corruption. Condé’s government revoked BSGR’s rights in 2014.

 

Steinmetz will be represented at appeal by Daniel Kinzer, partner at international law firm CMS.

 

The Israeli businessman has argued that Condé conspired with billionaire George Soros to dispossess BSGR of its mining rights. In a 15-page press statement issued before the appeal, representatives of Steinmetz claimed that Condé demanded $1.25 billion from BSGR and its business partner for the right to remain in the country, accusing Condé of attempted “state blackmail”.

 

The statement said NGOs funded by Soros ensured “rumors and suspicions” about BSGR appeared in major international media, and described Soros as Steinmetz’s “personal enemy.”

 

At trial last year, Steinmetz argued he was not involved in the management of BSGR, which stands for Beny Steinmetz Resources Group, and was unaware of emails and money transfers which prosecutors said evidenced bribery.

 

But a Swiss judge found Steinmetz to be the group’s “effective head” and accepted the prosecution’s argument that Steinmetz masterminded a “corruption pact.”

 

If the guilty verdict is upheld at appeal, Steinmetz will have the opportunity to appeal again to Switzerland’s Supreme Court. According to Pieth, Steinmetz is expected to be allowed to leave Switzerland pending another possible lengthy appeal. “This will take a long time. They will probably not keep him in custody.”

 

Pieth said he was confident Steinmetz’s guilty verdict would act as a deterrent to others.

 

“Until now, people believed ‘if worst comes to worst, we’ll simply pay.’ Five years in prison, that’s a different matter,” Pieth told OCCRP.

 

A decision on the appeal is expected on September 7.

Colombia-Solidarity Bridge CBP Officers Seize Hard Narcotics Worth Over $11.8 Million

 

LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers seized cocaine in one enforcement action over the weekend that totaled over $11,800,000 in street value.

 

“Officers assigned to CBP cargo facilities ensure effective border security by preventing and countering the flow of suspected narcotics entering the country,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “This seizure is a prime example of border security management and how it helps prevent dangerous narcotics from reaching our communities.”

 

The seizure occurred on Friday, August 26, 2022, at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2016 Stoughton trailer manifesting a shipment of baby wipes for a secondary inspection. The truck was referred for a canine and non-intrusive inspection system examination, resulting in the discovery of 1,935 packages containing 1,532.65 pounds of alleged cocaine within the shipment.

 

The narcotics had an estimated street value of $11,818,400.

 

CBP seized the narcotics. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents are investigating the seizure.

The Satanic Temple has been approved to hold an event at a Pennsylvania high school — and taxpayers will fund it.

 

The Northern York County School District said in a statement that they granted permission for “the Satanic Temple to use our facility as we were required to do so by Board policy No. 707.”

 

The event will be held on September 24 and, under the policy, the school district will be required to cover any rental, custodial, security and auditorium tech fees, local station WJAC reports.

 

“As a public school district, the use of our school facilities must be permitted without discrimination,” the school district’s statement continued. “We cannot and do not arbitrarily pick and choose which organization may or may not use our facilities. If we allow one organization, we must allow all organizations, provided they satisfy the conditions and application requirements as set forth in Policy 707.”

 

The district added that they do not endorse organizations who are renting their facilities.

 

The Satanic Temple has had their sights set on the school district ever since they learned that a Christian Dillsburg Community Worship and Prayer event was hosted at the high school.

 

As Gateway previously reported, in April, the Satanic Temple filed a lawsuit against the school district for refusing to allow them to host an “After School Satan Club” at the elementary school.

 

The organization’s legal team argued that the school violated the First Amendment by allowing some groups to host events and not others.

 

According to their website, the Satanic Temple after-school clubs “meet at select public schools where Good News Clubs also operate. Trained educators provide activities and learning opportunities, which students are free to engage in, or they may opt to explore other interests that may be aided by available resources. The environment is open and parents are welcome to participate. While the classes are designed to promote intellectual and emotional development in accordance with TST’s tenets, no proselytization or religious instruction takes place.”

Ukraine’s much-heralded “counter-offensive” in Kherson has “failed miserably,” the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday, listing the losses suffered by Kiev at the end of the day. Ukrainian forces attempted to attack in three directions on orders of President Vladimir Zelensky but made no gains, Moscow said.

 

Russian troops caused “great losses” to the Ukrainian attackers during the day’s battles, including 26 tanks, 23 armored fighting vehicles, nine more armored vehicles, two SU-25 ground-attack jets and more than 560 troops, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Monday evening.

 

The enemy's another attempt at offensive actions has failed miserably.

In a study published by Jigsaw’s head of research, Beth Goldberg, the big tech firm compared convincing the Poles to accept illegal migrants to convincing people all over the world to accept the COVID-19 jab. Millionaire agribusiness leader Tom Strachan among three dead in horror Queensland light plane crash

 

A leader in Queensland’s agriculture industry and his 20-year-old son are among three people who died in a plane crash on Monday.

 

A millionaire agribusiness leader and his son were killed along with the pilot in a light plane crash in Queensland on Monday.

 

The aeroplane crashed in a remote area near Lowood located about an hour west of Brisbane.

 

Paramedics reportedly struggled to get to the scene and were forced to travel to the accident site on foot.

 

TheCourier Mail reported the Cessna aircraft ran into hazardous weather and dropped from 2000ft to 500ft before crashing near Fernvale at 10am on Monday.

 

The paper has confirmed that the victims included Tom Strachan, 49, and his 20-year-old son Noah. The experienced pilot Gary Liehm also died.

 

Mr Strachan was a farmer and leader in the agribusiness industry.

 

He founded mining, construction and agricultural labour hire firm AWX in 2000. In 2016 he and a group of investors sold the business for a reported $25 million, reported the AFR.

 

In 2014, he was estimated to have a wealth of $47m.

 

In 2015, year he bought the renowned Lighthouse cattle station in Roma for $14m which he said was a “lifetime goal”.

 

“It was about returning to a space, industry, that provides me purpose and belonging at an individual, spiritual and holistic level.”

 

Mr Strachan was working with Packhorse, an investment firm specialising in agriculture and particularly the beef supply chain.

 

Mr Strachan is listed as “executive director and chief storyteller” of the firm.

 

“Tom just took on the world; he was so successful and always made time for everyone,” a friend of Mr Strachan told the Courier Mail on Monday night.

Federal Court Partially Lifts Ban on Biden Administration’s COVID Vaccine Mandate for Contractors

 

A U.S. court has lifted part of the ban on the Biden administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for federal contractors, finding a lower court went too far in blocking the vaccination requirements across the nation—but also predicting that the challenge to the mandate will probably succeed.

 

U.S. District Judge R. Stan Baker, a Trump appointee, in December 2021 blocked President Joe Biden’s mandate in all 50 states, finding the Federal Property and Administrative Services Act likely does not give Biden the power to issue such mandates.

 

A three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said on Aug. 26 that it was correct to block the mandate in some states, but not all.

 

One of the plaintiffs, Associated Builders and Contractors, has workers all over the country, Baker said, necessitating a nationwide preliminary injunction.

 

“Stretching logic, the court reasoned that if it ‘were to enjoin the enforcement of the mandate only in the Southern District of Georgia or only in Georgia, Alabama, Idaho, Kansas, South Carolina, Utah and West Virginia,’ then “members would not have injunctive relief as to covered contracts in other states.’ But injunctive relief operates on specific parties, not geographic territories, and identifying the plaintiff States and trade association members is possible,” the appeals court panel said.

 

“The district court’s other reason for a nationwide remedy was that narrower relief ‘would prove unwieldy and would only cause more confusion.’ This statement is ambiguous: it may reflect either the lack of uniformity that would result from a well-tailored injunction, or the difficulty of structuring an injunction that allows enforcement against nonparties while still providing relief to the plaintiffs. The former is an inappropriate consideration, and the latter is unsupported by the district court’s analysis or the record,” the panel added.

 

Its decision rolls back the nationwide injunction, only keeping it in place for states that are part of the lawsuits. Those are Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, South Carolina, Utah, and West Virginia. Additionally, members of the Associated Builders and Contractors, no matter where they are, cannot be forced to comply with the mandate.

 

Other rulings, though, remain in place for four additional states: Arizona, Kentucky, Ohio, and Tennessee.

Judges Split

 

U.S. Circuit Judge Britt Grant, a Trump appointee, wrote the ruling, concluding that plaintiffs will “likely succeed.” The two other judges penned separate opinions.

 

J.L. Edmondson, a Reagan appointee, concurred, writing in a one-page opinion that he thinks the plaintiffs “have a reasonable chance to succeed” in the case but that the nationwide injunction wasn’t proper.

 

R. Lanier Anderson III, a Carter appointee, wrote a lengthier opinion concurring with that piece, but diverged on when considering whether Biden has the authority to issue a mandate like the one he did issue.

Ukrainian forces have launched a much-anticipated counteroffensive in the south of the country, including around Kherson, a spokesperson for Ukraine's southern military command announced on Monday.

 

Driving the news: The announcement followed reports of Ukrainian artillery strikes on Russian positions in Kherson Oblast, and unconfirmed claims from Ukrainian officials that Russia's "first line of defense" near Kherson had been breached.

 

The latest: Two senior U.S. officials told CNN's Jim Scuitto that Ukraine is targeting Russian weapons systems, command and control centers and ammunition depots in preparation for advances in southern Ukraine.

 

Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, tweeted, "Kherson is [Ukraine]. Our Kherson is ahead."

The launch of the offensive comes as inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) head to Zaporizhzhia in southern Ukraine for an urgent examination of Europe's largest nuclear power plant, which has been damaged by shelling.

The backstory: Russia took large swaths of southern Ukraine in the opening days of the war, advancing north from occupied Crimea. Even as Russian forces were repulsed from Kyiv and bogged down in the east, they solidified their hold on Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.

 

In Kherson, Russia installed a puppet government, restricted the internet, mandated the use of the ruble and started issuing Russian passports. The White House has warned that Russia could announce a sham referendum there in the coming days as a precursor to annexing the territory into Russia.

A section of the Sussex Branch Trail in Lafayette was closed this weekend after over 100 dead black vultures were discovered in the area, the New Jersey State Park Service announced Saturday.

 

The U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed the birds died from avian influenza, more commonly known as bird flu, the state said.

 

“Black vultures are seemingly very susceptible to avian influenza, and they tend to scavenge the carcasses of dead vultures, which can prolong the duration of a local outbreak such as the one being seen in Sussex County,” the state Department of Environmental Protection said in a statement.

 

State park officials left the dead birds to decompose due to rough terrain causing accessibility issues and a lack of state personnel certified to handle infected birds.

 

The trail is closed from Route 94 to Morris Farms Road until further notice, officials said.

 

Even though the risk of bird flu being transmitted to humans is low, improper handling could lead to further spread of disease, state officials said. The flu spreads through contact with bodily secretions, including feces, ocular, nasal, or oral secretions from infected birds. It can spread via vehicles, equipment and shoes.

 

The state Department of Agriculture and New Jersey Fish and Wildlife will continue to monitor the situation along the trail, officials said.

 

There have been several reports of bird flu outbreaks around the country recently. Earlier this month, bird flu killed 700 wild black vultures at a Georgia animal sanctuary. The virus also killed 40 million chickens and turkeys and about 2,000 wild birds this year, the Associated Press reported.

A Miami-Dade County Commissioner will soon be surrendering himself to authorities.

 

Law enforcement sources have confirmed to Local 10 News that Joe Martinez will turn himself in sometime this week.

Martinez was first elected to the county commission in 2000. He’s never been seriously challenged for re-election.

 

Before running for the commission, Martinez was a Miami-Dade Police Lieutenant.

 

His imminent arrest was first reported by the Politico Cortadito blog.

 

It’s not clear what crime he may have committed, however his attorney released a statement Monday on his behalf:

“State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle directed Miami-Dade County Commissioner Joe Martinez to surrender this week based on false allegations arising from his private practice work as a consultant when he was a private citizen and not an elected official. “The average citizen in America right now doesn’t know that this is going on, doesn’t understand it. I think if they did, they’d get more involved,” Ireland told The Gateway Pundit in an exclusive interview. “Mickey feels if Ashli were with us, this is exactly where she would be.

“Over half of the guys that are here at this jail are military veterans. These are people that went out, went overseas, and sacrificed for our country. Ultimately they were there on January 6 because they believed in the Constitution. “I fully believe that’s why they have not arrested me, because of everything I can [testify]. I was there for so long,” Tatum told The Gateway Pundit. “I was with her the whole time, from when she hit the ground to when she was murdered. They don’t want me — they want these guys to plea.”

 

“I would certainly not suggest that every police officer is bad. But certainly Capitol Hill police officers that day were. On Saturday afternoon, The Gateway Pundit’s Jim Hoft and attorney John Burns interviewed Dr. Robert Malone, the inventor of the mRNA vaccines. Today Dr. Malone has created an enormous following for his concerns regarding the safety and bioethics of how the COVID-19 genetic vaccines were developed and forced upon the world.

 

On Saturday, Jim Hoft and John Burns discussed the COVID pandemic, World Economic Forum, Dr. Fauci’s career and retirement, and the current power structure that threatens individual freedom around the world today.

 

Dr. Malone worked on the AIDS pandemic and research at UC Davis during the early stages of the pandemic. Dr. Malone witnessed all of the politics that surrounded the disease.

It’s the Senior Executive Service that runs the government. I argue that Biden doesn’t run the SES. The SES runs Biden. The Administrative State runs the executive branch, not the other way around. Trump ran into this, and I think he got totally Bushwhacked. I don’t think he had any clue what he was walking into.”

 

Dr. Malone spoke about Bill Gates and the Trusted News Initiative (TNI). This was very interesting. It’s how the globalist left was able to control the message and push their lies on the coronavirus.

Dr. Malone then goes on to discuss the dangers of the World Economic Forum, Bill Gates, the current Marxist threat, and the global power structure.

New Documents Illuminate the President’s Secret, Unchecked Emergency Powers May 26, 2022

In 2004, high-ranking staffers in the George W. Bush administration spearheaded a holistic review of the president’s emergency powers. Their goal was to refresh a set of secret plans known as “presidential emergency action documents,” or PEADs, the continuity of government playbook that emerged under President Dwight Eisenhower as a response to the threat of nuclear war. Equipped with the latest tranche of presidential records, we now know that at least some of the most disturbing aspects of early Cold War emergency action documents persisted as of 2008.

Controlling communications At least one of the documents under review was designed to implement the emergency authorities contained in Section 706 of the Communications Act. During World War II, Congress granted the president authority to shut down or seize control of“any facility or station for wire communication”upon proclamation “that there exists a state or threat of war involving the United States.” This frighteningly expansive language was, at the time, hemmed in by Americans’ limited use of telephone calls and tele-grams. Today, however, a president willing to test the limits of his or her authority might interpret “wire communications” to encompass the internet — and therefore claim a “kill switch” over vast swaths of electronic communication. And indeed, Bush administration officials repeatedly highlighted the statute’s flexibility: it was “very broad”

Detention authority The records indicate that at least one presidential emergency action document pertained to the suspension of habeas corpus. An internal memorandum from June 2008 specified that a document under the Justice Department’s jurisdiction was “[s]till being revised by OLC [Office of Legal Counsel], in light of recent Supreme Court opinion.” Examining the Court’s rulings over the previous months, it is evident that this must refer to the landmark decision in Boumediene v. Bush, which recognized Guantanamo Bay prisoners’ constitutional right to challenge their detention in court.

Inhibiting the right to travel Restricting the use of U.S. passports, a reported feature of some early presidential emergency action documents— remained on the table as of 2008. Records generated by the Bush administration’s review highlighted a provisions of law from 1978 that allows the government to curtail international movement based on “war,” “armed hostilities,” or “imminent danger to the public health or the physical safety of United States travelers.”

Triggering other emergency powers The national emergency declared after 9/11 — which is still in effect today and continues to prop up the United States’ military presence across the globe — was cited in connection with one or more PEADs. A national emergency declaration unlocks enhanced authorities contained in more than120 provisions of law. Bush invoked several such authorities, but several dozen others were — and still are — available to the president as a result of Proclamation 7463.

Also missing from the records is any evidence that the Bush administration communicated — much less collaborated — with Congress during its review. We have previously noted that presidents have kept PEADs secret, not only from the American public but from lawmakers as well. This lack of disclosure effectively blocks a coequal branch of government from overseeing emergency protocols.

With Congress unable to serve its constitutional role as a check on the executive branch, there remains the possibility that modern PEADs, like their historical predecessors, sacrifice Americans’ constitutional rights and the rule of law in the name of emergency planning. Congress should pass Sen. Ed Markey’s REIGN Act,…to bring these shadowy powers to account.

Fetterman said he opposes voter ID laws because 'people of color are less likely to have their ID’

 

Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman, a Democrat, opposes voter identification laws because poor people and "people of color" are "less likely to have their ID at any one given time."

 

Despite their prevalence worldwide, Fetterman, who is running for the open Keystone State Senate seat against Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz, has been an outspoken opponent of voter ID laws in America.

 

Falling in line with the progressive orthodoxy, Fetterman has decried voter ID laws as "insidious and unnecessary" during his tenure as the Keystone State’s lieutenant governor.

 

In fact, Fetterman went as far as to claim the laws — which are the standard in most countries worldwide — suppressed the vote and said he was "horrified" by Republicans’ push for the measures in Pennsylvania and nationwide.

 

Fetterman also said that poorer Americans and "people of color" are less likely to have their ID on them at any given moment, such as when voting for an elected official.

 

"In my own state, they are going to pass, attempt to pass a constitutional amendment making sure that universal voting ID for every time you vote, not just when you sign up to vote, but every time you vote," Fetterman said in December 2021.

 

"Because they understand that at any given time, there’s tens of thousands of Pennsylvanians who typically are on the poorer side and are people of color that are less likely to have their ID at any one given time," the Democrat nominee continued.

Iraq protests turn deadly after prominent cleric quits politics

The violence was the most serious during a summer of unrest in Iraq, which has been without a government for the better part of a year and captive to escalating feuds between political factions, including followers of the cleric, Moqtada al-Sadr, and rival Shiite groups that are backed by Iran.

 

Sadr’s followers stormed the palace Monday after he announced his “final” retirement from politics — a threat he has made before, during years in the public eye, but one that could have more serious consequences in the charged political climate, and with the country ruled by a caretaker government.

 

“You are free of me,” Sadr told his supporters in a message posted Monday afternoon on Twitter announcing his resignation.

 

The fallout was immediate. Sadr’s supporters, who had been holding a sit-in inside the Green Zone, where government offices and diplomatic missions are located, scaled the gates of the palace and paraded through its ornate halls, in scenes shared on social media. Soon afterward, sounds of live ammunition echoed in the capital, as security forces descended on the protesters.

 

Elsewhere in Iraq, Sadr’s supporters blockaded roads and government buildings, including in Basra, in the south. The United Nations mission in Iraq called the developments an “extremely dangerous escalation,” and implored protesters to withdraw from the Green Zone.

 

“Iraqis cannot be held hostage to an unpredictable and untenable situation. The very survival of the State is at stake,” the mission said in a statement.

 

Iraq’s political dysfunction — a feature of civic life since the U.S. invasion nearly two decades ago entrenched a sectarian, kleptocratic order — entered its latest phase in October, when Sadr won the largest number of seats in parliament but failed to form a government. After months of political paralysis, Sadr withdrew his lawmakers from the legislature in June and sent his followers to occupy the parliament.

 

A rival political bloc, comprising Shiite groups backed by Iran, has also held protests and sit-ins in the Green Zone, raising fears of a confrontation. In the background of the political infighting, Iraqis have suffered mightily, as state institutions, from schools to hospitals, deteriorate without government support.

 

Sadr, a populist who has opposed both U.S. and Iranian influence in Iraq, has called for early elections, as well as the barring of political figures who served after the U.S. invasion from working in government.

 

Health officials on Monday did not identify the victims of the violence but said some had been shot in the chest or the stomach. A statement Monday night by Iraq’s caretaker prime minister, Mustafa al-Kadhimi, said the use of live ammunition by the security forces was “strictly prohibited,” and he called for the protection of protesters.

Millionaire and son among three killed in Queensland light plane crash

An experienced pilot, a millionaire businessman and his son have been identified as the three people killed in a light plane crash west of Brisbane.

The plane landed in a remote area near Lowood, a 60-minute drive west of Queensland's capital.

Due to the nature of the area, paramedics have struggled to get on the scene, approaching the wreckage by foot.

 

The plane ran into bad weather, before dropping 2000 feet from the air.

The plane was tracked leaving Roma in western Queensland yesterday at 7.20am, stopping in Dalby around 9am, before taking off again fifteen minutes later.

The plane then lost connection near Ipswich around 10am before plunging to the ground yesterday afternoon

 

Pilot Gary Liehm, who had previously flown for Queensland fire and emergency services, had been flying the plane.

Aboard were millionaire businessman Tom Strachan, 49, and his 20-year-old son Noah.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau confirmed it is investigating the crash.

"The ATSB expects to deploy a team of transport safety investigators from its Brisbane office, with expertise in engineering, aircraft operations and maintenance, to the accident site on Tuesday," a spokesperson said.

Biden Admin. Announces $11M For Monkeypox Vaccine Production

 

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will provide approximately $11 million to support the first U.S.-based fill and finish manufacturing of JYNNEOS – a vaccine approved to prevent smallpox and monkeypox – at Grand River Aseptic Manufacturing (GRAM) in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

 

The agreement between the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), part of the HHS Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), and GRAM aids the company in accelerating the fill and finish manufacturing qualification and production in its recently expanded facility. The funding will allow GRAM to purchase additional equipment necessary for JYNNEOS production and recruit and train additional staff to operate the line. With BARDA’s support, vaccine production at the facility is expected to be underway later this year, months ahead of the 9-month schedule typical for this type of work.

 

“We continue to build on our efforts to secure and make safe and effective vaccines readily available,” said HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra. “This new agreement solidifies a domestic manufacturing capability that will bring us more vaccine sooner to end this outbreak.”

 

On August 18, Bavarian Nordic, maker of JYNNEOS, and GRAM announced an agreement to establish this first U.S.-based fill and finish capability for the JYNNEOS vaccine, an agreement facilitated by BARDA. Even prior to that agreement, Bavarian Nordic and GRAM had begun working together on the technology transfer to enable the opening of a U.S.-based line.

 

“Rapidly increasing the supply and safe delivery of monkeypox vaccine to at-risk Americans is a top priority,” said Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response Dawn O’Connell. “BARDA’s support helps ensure success in doubling the capacity available to fill and finish this vaccine, improves preparedness for smallpox bioterrorism, and strengthens the security of the U.S. supply chain. Production of JYNNEOS in the U.S. creates jobs and speeds the availability of the vaccine.”

 

In July, to support the current monkeypox outbreak and future smallpox preparedness, BARDA placed orders for fill, finish, and delivery of 5 million vials of JYNNEOS from U.S. government-owned bulk vaccine stored in Denmark. In that contract, Bavarian Nordic agreed to complete a technology transfer that would allow a U.S.-based contract manufacturer to fill and finish 2.5 million vials of JYNNEOS.

 

The new manufacturing support at GRAM is the latest in ASPR’s efforts to expand the capacity and capability in the U.S. to manufacture medical supplies, equipment, and the materials used to make medical supplies. These efforts enhance the U.S response to public health emergencies; the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the need to expand the U.S. industrial base for vaccine production. To date, ASPR has invested nearly $6.9 billion in manufacturing expansion to produce vaccines, glass vials, nitrile gloves, surgical gowns, test swabs, the raw materials needed for diagnostic tests, therapeutics and vaccines.

PDATE: DeSantis Attended Officer's Funeral Instead of Zeldin Fundraiser

 

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis missed the fundraiser for New York gubernatorial candidate, Rep. Lee Zeldin, on Sunday night due to the death of Florida Department of Law Enforcement Special Agent Jose Perez, Politico is reporting.

 

Perez’s funeral mass was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday morning, according to the outlet, which explains the “unforeseen tragedy” that resulted in the governor’s absence.

 

The special agent died on Aug. 20 as a result of injuries from a vehicle crash on Aug. 2, in which a driver struck his car while on duty in West Miami-Dade, according to WSVN.

 

The other driver in the accident is facing charges for driving under the influence, such as vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter, CBS News reported.

 

Although there was some confusion about the tragedy that led DeSantis to cancel First Lady Casey DeSantis posted a tweet early Monday morning mourning the loss of Perez.

After a series of Israeli airstrikes against the densely populated Gaza Strip earlier this month, Palestinian Facebook and Instagram users protested the abrupt deletion of posts documenting the resulting death and destruction. It wasn’t the first time Palestinian users of the two giant social media platforms, which are both owned by parent company Meta, had complained about their posts being unduly removed. It’s become a pattern: Palestinians post sometimes graphic videos and images of Israeli attacks, and Meta swiftly removes the content, providing only an oblique reference to a violation of the company’s “Community Standards” or in many cases no explanation at all.

 

Not all the billions of users on Meta’s platforms, however, run into these issues when documenting the bombing of their neighborhoods.

 

Previously unreported policy language obtained by The Intercept shows that this year the company repeatedly instructed moderators to deviate from standard procedure and treat various graphic imagery from the Russia-Ukraine war with a light touch. Like other American internet companies, Meta responded to the invasion by rapidly enacting a litany of new policy carveouts designed to broaden and protect the online speech of Ukrainians, specifically allowing their graphic images of civilians killed by the Russian military to remain up on Instagram and Facebook.

 

No such carveouts were ever made for Palestinian victims of Israeli state violence — nor do the materials show such latitude provided for any other suffering population.

Marwa Fatafta, Middle East North Africa policy manager for Access Now, an international digital rights group, said, “Their censorship works almost like clockwork — whenever violence escalates on the ground, their takedown of Palestinian content soars.”

 

Instances of censored Palestinian content reviewed by The Intercept include the August 5 removal of a post mourning the death of Alaa Qaddoum, a 5-year-old Palestinian girl killed in an Israeli missile strike, as well as an Instagram video showing Gazans pulling bodies from beneath rubble. Both posts were removed with a notice claiming that the imagery “goes against our guidelines on violence or dangerous organizations” — a reference to Meta’s company policy against violent content or information related to its vast roster of banned people and groups.

The famous Horsehead Nebula in Orion is not alone. A deep exposure shows that the dark familiar shaped indentation, visible just right of center, is part of a vast complex of absorbing dust and glowing gas. The featured spectacular picture details an intricate tapestry of gaseous wisps and dust-laden filaments that were created and sculpted over eons by stellar winds and ancient supernovas. The Flame Nebula is visible in orange just to the Horsehead's left. To highlight the dust and gas, most of the stars have been digitally removed, although a notable exception is Alnitak, just above the Flame Nebula, which is the rightmost star in Orion's famous belt of three aligned stars. The Horsehead Nebula lies 1,500 light years distant towards the constellation of Orion.

RAND think tank calls for “guardrails” on the metaverse

Like the pop song says, right now, collectively, as humanity – we might be “slow dancing in a burning room.”

 

While the world looks to be on the brink of catastrophe – there are plenty of theoretical, and even quasi-theoretical discussions about a hypothetical future, not few of those involving a thing called, “the metaverse.”

 

Regardless, it’s true – anybody who makes it out of here alive – might actually have to deal with this future problem.

 

Especially, observers are certain, if Facebook (conveniently rebranded as “Meta” not that long ago) actually has a decisive say in it.

 

Facebook – now several years into a survival mode trying to “prove” the company is not a purveyor of “misinformation” or, an online place that given the reach of the platform, naturally gathers any majority that might just naturally win any election – is now suspected of looking for yet more convenient ways to appease its powerful critics.

 

US-based RAND Corporation think tank has recently considered what the “multiverse” might actually mean, should this technological, anthropological, sociological – and ultimately, political project actually take off.

 

In the metaverse, controlled by Facebook (that would highly likely be controlled itself) – a political candidate might be seen addressing millions, the non-profit posits. And the way the “metaverse” could be structured, each individual would actually be seeing a “customized” version of that address. Tl;dr: it would be the ultimate disinformation campaign.

 

TV and film editing pros will not be surprised by this “conspiracy theory” – even if the rest of us will need to research it to understand what the implication is.

 

The editing process – of “frankensteining” various components of a (scripted) video/audio, to appeal directly to an individual or a narrow group – has been present in the entertainment, and one dares guess, political campaigning industry for decades now.

 

But this is supposed to be a whole other level – one where the audience is recognized in real time to then blend some of their own features into those of a politician addressing them, for the sake of creating a subliminal “mirror” familiarity – i.e., mimicry.

New York Times Amplifies Misinformation Group’s Talking Points To Smear Truth Social As QAnon Haven

 

The New York Times amplified the influence of a few dozen identified “QAnon” users active on former President Donald Trump’s social media platform on Monday after they were purged from establishment forums run by Big Tech.

 

Truth Social, the Times claims, is problematic for its commitment to foster open dialogue in contrast to websites like Twitter and Facebook, which are hellbent on dictating the narrative through overt censorship. At the core of its analysis, the paper relied on data from the ideologically driven, pro-censorship browser extension NewsGuard to form the basis of its hit piece.

 

“NewsGuard, a media watchdog that analyzes the credibility of news outlets, found 88 users promoting the QAnon conspiracy theory on Truth Social, each to more than 10,000 followers,” the Times wrote in the second paragraph. “Of those accounts, 32 were previously banned by Twitter.”

 

Heaven forbid users banned from Twitter, including the former president himself, build and use an alternative platform.

 

Meanwhile, NewsGuard continues to score legacy outlets that dismissed the Hunter Biden laptop story (which was also prohibited on Twitter) as disinformation with perfect credibility, while it gives outlets such as the New York Post and The Federalist dismal grades.

 

Extremists, of course, permeate virtually every corner of the internet, including Twitter and Facebook, which each fostered the same so-called extremist chatter that Silicon Valley giants used as justification for banning Parler, an early free speech alternative to Twitter. Parler still exists, but it is no longer accessible on app stores from either Apple or Google. The company was also down for weeks after it was kicked from Amazon Web Services.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene joined Right Side Broadcasting Network’s Brian Glenn on Saturday evening, where they revealed the harrowing phone calls to 911 when she was swatted in an attempt on her life.

 

The hoaxer who tried to kill Greene later called the police back after they left Greene’s home to confess and dare the FBI to come find them.

 

“Swatting” is the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address to kill a believed suspect.

 

This has happened before and resulted in police shooting innocent people.

 

NPR reported on a similar incident that led to the shooting death of Andrew Finch, an innocent 29-year-old man:

In reality, police say, the call came from Tyler Barriss, who was arrested in Los Angeles and charged with involuntary manslaughter.

I was barking out instructions to diagnostically isolate an issue. I made the comment that I felt like House, but wasn't allowed too use profanity.

 

A guy said, "They ran into a rut, and at the end everything was Lupis.

 

I said, "I am watching it now and everyone who comes into the hospital is a tranny.

 

He blew up and lectured me for being insensitive and disrespectful (though there were no trannies in the room.)

 

After the test I took him aside. I explained that though he knew I intended no offense, he chose to belittle and bully me in front of the whole team. He said he didn't intend to do that. I explained according to his own rules, that doesn't matter. I was offended. Furthermore I explained that the use of "fuck" is unprofessional, demeaning, and disrectful to the professionals, and that it offends me. I expect never to hear it again. And by the way, my pronouns are "Galactic Grand Master". I like these new rules.

FTC files lawsuit against data broker for allegedly selling sensitive location-tracking information, including church and health clinic visits

 

On Monday, the United States Fair Trade Commission announced a lawsuit against mobile data broker Kochava Inc. for allegedly selling location information that can be used to track an individual's visits to medical care facilities, mental health clinics, places of worship, homeless and domestic violence shelters, and addiction recovery centers.

 

The FTC reported that the broker sold geolocation data for millions of mobile devices. The lawsuit accuses Kochava of exposing people to threats of stigma, stalking, discrimination, job loss, and physical violence.

 

According to Kochava's marketplace, its services provide "rich geo data spanning billions of devices globally." The broker claims that the location information "delivers raw latitude/longitude data with volumes around 94B+ geo transactions per month, 125 million monthly active users, and 35 million daily active users, on average observing more than 90 daily transactions per device."

 

In the lawsuit, the FTC alleged that Kochava provided a free trial of its location data services with minimal safeguards. To access the data of 61,803,400 mobile devices, an individual interested in using the broker's geolocation services would only need to make a free trial account. As a result, the FTC accused Kochava of failing to provide "any meaningful controls over who accesses its location data feed."

 

The case alleged that Kochava's precise geolocation data could provide enough details to identify people and expose sensitive information, "including places of religious worship, places that may be used to infer an LGBTQ+ identification, domestic abuse shelters, medical facilities, and welfare and homeless shelters."

 

The FTC accused the data broker of providing detailed sensitive information that could "injure consumers through exposure to stigma, discrimination, physical violence, emotional distress, and other harms."

 

Samuel Levine, director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection, stated, "Where consumers seek out health care, receive counseling, or celebrate their faith is private information that shouldn't be sold to the highest bidder."

 

Levine said that by taking Kochava to court, the FTC hopes to stop the company from selling sensitive data. The lawsuit also seeks to require Kochava to delete existing sensitive geolocation information.

 

Reuters reported that the FTC is considering creating rules that would restrict businesses from collecting sensitive location data information without consumer consent.

 

In July, Google announced that it would begin purging user geolocation information for visits to "counseling centers, domestic violence shelters, abortion clinics, fertility centers, addiction treatment facilities, weight loss clinics, cosmetic surgery clinics, and other" locations that it considered personal.

 

Kochava could not be reached for comment, Reuters reported.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis skipped out on a pricey fundraiser in New York to attend a funeral Mass for a fallen member of his security detail on Monday.

 

DeSantis was scheduled to appear at a $25,000-per-plate fundraiser for Republican Lee Zeldin, who is running for governor in New York. He will instead attend a memorial service for Special Agent Jose Perez, a member of his security detail who died last week from injuries sustained on the line of duty.

 

Perez was driving his police vehicle on Aug. 2 when an allegedly intoxicated driver crashed into him. Perez survives 18 days in the hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The other driver, Javier Sandoval, has been arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide, according to the New York Post.

FBI special agent who opened Trump investigation reportedly escorted out of Bureau headquarters

Former Washington Field Office Special Agent in Charge Tim Thibault was reportedly escorted out of the Bureau's headquarters on Friday, amid whistleblower allegations that he showed political bias in his handling of politically sensitive investigations.

 

The Washington Times reported eyewitness accounts that "Mr. Thibault was seen exiting the bureau’s elevator last Friday escorted by two or three 'headquarters-looking types.'"

 

Whistleblowers alleged that Thibault concealed the partisan nature of evidence from FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland to secure their approval to open an investigation into former President Donald Trump. That investigation culminated in the FBI's raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate earlier this month.

 

The public release of the affidavit that accompanied the search warrant revealed the warrant application relied heavily on information from news articles, including a CBS Miami piece titled "Moving Trucks Spotted At Mar-a-Lago" and a Breitbart News article in which former Trump adviser Kash Patel discussed the classified status of documents the bureau previously removed from the estate on behalf of the National Archives.

 

Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley confirmed to Just the News prior to the raid that Thibault had been removed from his post and reassigned to an unspecified position.

REPORT: Children’s Hospital CEO Doubles Down On Trans Surgeries For Minors In Letter To Employees

 

The president and CEO of Boston Children’s Hospital is doubling down on his hospital’s policy of offering transgender surgeries to underage children, according to emails obtained by independent journalist Chris Elston, also known as Billboard Chris.

 

Boston Children’s Hospital came under fire in August when publicly available video circulated in which the hospital advertised “gender-affirming” hysterectomies for underage children. The hospital also offered vaginoplasties to underage girls as young as 17, a policy they reversed after receiving backlash. An analysis from the Daily Caller News Foundation found that doctors performed 65 chest surgeries on transgender minors between 2017 and 2020.

 

“We stand firmly by our commitment to provide the best care for those who need it, and reaffirm our long-standing commitment to the LGBTQ+ community and to health equity and inclusion,” Boston Children’s Hospital President and CEO Kevin B. Churchwell reportedly wrote in an email to employees.

 

The email blamed a “highly politicized environment” for what the hospital claims is are false allegations made about the hospital’s policy concerning transgender surgery for minors.

 

“Unfortunately, there will be those who continue to mislead the public about the high-quality and safe care we provide,” Churchwell continued.

 

Boston Children’s Hospital did not respond to the Daily Caller’s request for comment.

Former Trump adviser Kash Patel said Monday the former president had been working on declassifying documents relating to "RussiaGate" before leaving the White House.

 

"The president had been working on these for a while – to issue declassification orders and did issue declassification orders," Patel said on the John Solomon Reports podcast.

Patel made the comment following the FBI's raid of former President Trump's Florida estate who were looking for document Trump took when leaving the White House, instead of turning them over to the National Archives.

 

Trump and his team have argued amid the Justice Department investigation on the matter – and subsequent court proceedings regarding evidence the federal government used get a affidavit and search warrant for the raid – that the former president had declassified the materials at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

 

His team has also said some of the material seized was protected by attorney-client privilege.

 

"One of the times in the Oval Office he had RussiaGate docs. And he said that these are declassified and the American public needs to see them, Patel also said, referring to the now-debunked argument that the 2016 Trump presidential campaign colluded with Russia to help them win the election.

 

Patel also acknowledged on the podcast the existence of documents besides those regarding collusion related to the matter.

 

In addition, Patel said others in the Trump White House witnessed the former president declassify documents, but he could not recall who.

 

"It's incumbent upon the DOJ and FBI to show that this material was not declassified, and whether or not it was handled improperly or properly," Patel said. "There's a whole other debate that's already been settled by the DOJ and FBI application of these statutes to Hillary Clinton."

 

The Justice Department looked into whether Clinton as secretary of state has mishandled emails with possible sensitive information but concluded in 2016 that she had not "deliberately" done so.

 

The affidavit regarding the FBI raid was made public Friday, but much of it was redacted. The FBI's argument, in part, for blocking out information was to protect witnesses involved in the investigation, but Patel's name was not redacted.

 

"These individuals intentionally decided to politicize this affidavit for many reasons," he said. "But one, which I wasn't even expecting them to do, was put my name out there. It's added absolutely no value by every procedure at the Department of Justice in relation to protecting parties and people's names.

 

"They did it for a political effect because they wanted to try to silence me and President Trump and everybody else and get the mainstream media to threaten me, which they've done."

Grassley, Johnson Call on FBI to Explain Interference in Hunter Biden Investigation

Request FBI Personnel Appear for Transcribed Interview

 

BUTLER COUNTY, IOWA – Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), ranking member of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, sent a letter to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Deputy Assistant Director of Counterintelligence Bradley Benavides and FBI Intelligence Analyst in Charge of the Washington Field Office Intelligence Division Nikki Floris requesting their appearance for a transcribed interview to explain the FBI’s interference in the senators’ Hunter Biden investigation.

 

On August 6, 2020, Ms. Floris and Mr. Benavides provided Sens. Grassley and Johnson an unnecessary briefing on behalf of the FBI and Intelligence Community on matters purportedly related to the senators’ investigation into Hunter Biden. The briefing led to a leak that falsely labeled the investigation as advancing Russian disinformation.

 

The senators wrote, “FBI officials initiated a scheme to downplay derogatory information on Hunter Biden for the purpose of shutting down investigative activity relating to his potential criminal exposure by labeling it ‘disinformation’” and “whistleblowers have also alleged that local FBI leadership instructed employees not to look at the Hunter Biden laptop immediately after the FBI had obtained it.”

 

Sens. Grassley and Johnson have previously requested additional records related to the briefing, but have not received a sufficient response from FBI Director Christopher Wray. “The FBI has consistently failed to respond in full to each request and failed to provide those critical records which casts further doubt on the true purpose for the briefing,” said the senators.

Odessa mayor calls for Ukraine and Russia to negotiate

 

Compromises should be sought and confrontation avoided, the official believes

 

The mayor of the southern Ukrainian city of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, believes the conflict with Russia should be resolved politically. Kiev and Moscow should cease the hostilities and return to the negotiating table, he told Italy’s Corriere della Sera newspaper in an interview published on Sunday.

 

Although he supports the idea of Ukraine “returning to [its] borders of 1991,” including Donbass and Crimea, Trukhanov maintains that these disputes should be resolved at the negotiating table, not the battlefield.

 

“The lives of millions of people are at stake,” therefore “it is necessary to negotiate step by step, to seek compromises gradually, to avoid confrontation,” the mayor said. He argued that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has made “many” mistakes while in office.

 

Trukhanov criticized the government for concentrating too much power in Kiev at the expense of the regions.

 

“[Zelensky] should have left more autonomy to regions and municipalities,” he said, adding that had the president listened to his suggestions and those of others, “the country would work better.” Kiev’s failure to implement the Minsk agreements, designed to give the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk special status and broad autonomy within the Ukrainian state, was one of the reasons cited by Moscow when it launched its military operation in Ukraine on February 24.

 

The Odessa mayor noted that Ukraine and Russia are “deeply connected by history, culture, language, religion, traditions.”

 

Nevertheless, Trukhanov condemned Moscow’s military operation, calling Russian President Vladimir Putin a “monster” who could even go as far as to drop a nuclear bomb on Ukraine. However, he does not believe that Putin intends to bomb Odessa.

 

The mayor also criticized the efforts of the Ukrainian authorities aimed at tearing down statues and monuments to Russian historical figures in Ukraine. “I am against taking down the statues. Even if we destroy the monuments, history does not change,” Trukhanov said, adding that removing statues of 19th-century Russian poet Aleksandr Pushkin, and the first Soviet cosmonaut, Yury Gagarin, simply “does not make sense.”

 

The Kremlin signaled its readiness to strike a peace deal with Kiev in early August. President Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said at the time that the two nations were close to settling their differences in a way that was acceptable to Russia back in spring, but the draft agreement prepared during a meeting in Istanbul was torpedoed by Ukraine. Moscow warned that if Kiev refuses to end the conflict in a diplomatic way, Russia will still achieve the goals of its military operation.

 

In mid-August, Ukraine ruled out any negotiations with Russia, arguing that talks would not serve Kiev’s goals. “The opportunity to win this war is much more important than any situational pause,” Zelensky’s aide, Mikhail Podoliak, said at the time.

Dear Ms. Floris and Mr. Benavides:

 

On August 6, 2020, as we were finishing our September 23, 2020, report on Hunter Biden’s financial connections to foreign governments and questionable foreign nationals, you provided a briefing to us on behalf of the FBI and Intelligence Community.1 As we have publicly and privately stated to you and Director Wray since that briefing, the briefing was unnecessary and was only done because of pressure from our Democratic colleagues, including Democratic Leadership, to falsely attack our Biden investigation as advancing Russian disinformation.2

 

For example, on July 13, 2020, then-Minority Leader Schumer, Senator Warner, Speaker Pelosi and Representative Schiff sent a letter, with a classified attachment, to the FBI to express a purported belief that Congress was the subject of a foreign disinformation campaign.3 The classified attachment included unclassified elements that, among other things, attempted – and failed – to tie our investigation into the Biden family’s financial deals to foreign disinformation. Those elements were then leaked to the press.4

 

As you are undoubtedly aware, we’ve successfully refuted those false allegations and, most recently, we’ve made public a series of authentic bank records relating to the Biden family’s connections to the communist Chinese government, which Democrats had previously tried –and failed – to claim advanced Russian disinformation.5 In addition, on July 16, 2020, then-Ranking Member Peters and then-Ranking Member Wyden wrote to us requesting a briefing from the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force on matters purportedly relating to our investigation.6

 

On July 28, 2020, we responded to them and reminded them that in March 2020, the FBI and relevant members of the Intelligence Community had already briefed our committees and provided assurances that there was no reason that our committees should not continue their investigation.7

 

Nonetheless, the FBI succumbed to the Democratic pressure and provided the infamous August 6, 2020, briefing.

 

With respect to the substance of the briefing, it consisted primarily of information that we already knew and information unconnected to our Biden investigation. We made clear to you at the briefing that it was not relevant to the substance of our work. In response, you stated that the FBI is not attempting to “quash, curtail, or interfere” in the investigation in any way. 8 We also made clear our concern that the briefing would be subject to a leak that would shed a false light on the focus of our investigation. Indeed, on May 1, 2021, the Washington Post did exactly that and so did the other inaccurate media articles during the course of our investigation which falsely labeled our investigation as advancing Russian disinformation.9

 

Moreover, whistleblowers have recently alleged that in August 2020, the same month you provided the briefing to us, FBI officials initiated a scheme to downplay derogatory

information on Hunter Biden for the purpose of shutting down investigative activity relating to his potential criminal exposure by labeling it “disinformation.”10

 

Whistleblowers have also alleged that local FBI leadership instructed employees not to look at the Hunter Biden laptop immediately after the FBI had obtained it.11 At the briefing as well as after, we requested relevant records relating to what happened at the briefing, including the 302 or similar summary, the intelligence basis for the briefing and the personnel involved in making the decision to brief us. On August 12, 2020; May 3, 2021; July 25, 2022; and August 11, 2022, those requests were made.12

 

The FBI has consistently failed to respond in full to each request and failed to provide those critical records which casts further doubt on the true purpose for the briefing.

 

Simply put, the unnecessary FBI briefing provided the Democrats and liberal media the vehicle to spread their false narrative that our work advanced Russian disinformation. Although you stated that the FBI didn’t intend to “interfere” in our investigation, the practical effect of such an unnecessary briefing and the subsequent leaks relating to it created interference, which frustrated and obstructed congressional oversight efforts.

 

The FBI answers to Congress and the American people; therefore, we request that you appear before us for a transcribed interview on these and related matters no later than September 8, 2022. In addition, at the time of our initial request in August 2020, all records relating to the briefing should have been preserved.13 This letter reiterates that request.
