The reason Brunson was denied was because it was sent back to the appeals court, the circuit court, and they were asked why they haven't proceeded with it.

Orange County NY Residents Report ‘Unusual Odor’ and ‘Residue’ on Cars, Officials Say

Orange County health officials are investigating after residents in the region about 70 miles north of New York City reported an unusual odor in the air and residue on their cars, according to local officials.

 

Officials from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Orange County Fire Services Haz-Mat team visited the region on Friday to investigate.

 

The investigation was prompted after the county health department “received reports regarding residents smelling an unusual odor and seeing residue on their cars.”

FLASHBACK: January 25, 2023:

In a stunning statement contradicting her own government and the official line from NATO, Germany’s Foreign Minister declared that her country and Europe as a whole is in a “war against Russia” in Ukraine.

Speaking before the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on Tuesday,Annalena Baerbock of the German Green Party and a top member of the traffic light coalition government of Olaf Scholz, publicly contradicted the head of her government by saying that they are at war with Russia.

“I’ve said already in the last days – yes, we have to do more to defend Ukraine. Yes, we have to do more also on tanks,” Baerbock said. “But the most important and the crucial part is that we do it together and that we do not do the blame game in Europe, because we are fighting a war against Russia and not against each other.”

The comments from the foreign minister came just hours before Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that Germany would indeed be sending military tanks to Ukraine. However, the German leader expressly said that this did not represent an act of war against Russia, maintaining the Western line that the tanks are allegedly only intended for defensive purposes.

“We must always make it very clear that we are doing what is necessary and possible to support Ukraine, but at the same time preventing an escalation of the war to a war between NATO and Russia, and we will continue to observe this principle,” he said.

Aside from being contradicted by the chancellor, Germany’s chief military ally in the European Union, France also rejected Baerbock’s declaration, with a spokeswoman for the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs at the Quai d’Orsay, Anne-Claire Legendre saying: “We are not at war with Russia and none of our partners are.”

"The delivery of military equipment as part of the exercise of its self-defence… does not constitute a co-belligerence,” she said. “We deny these statements made by the Kremlin.”

On Thursday, Germany’s Federal Foreign Office also attempted to walk back the comments from Baerbock, telling the Bild newspaper that supporting Ukraine’s defensive effort against Russia “does not make Germany a party to the conflict.”

Yet, the comments were not missed by the Kremlin, with Moscow likening the statement to a recent interview from former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who suggested last year that the 2014 Minsk peace agreement was intended to buy Ukraine time in order to build up armaments to fight Russia.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said: “If we add this to Merkel’s revelations that they were strengthening Ukraine and did not count on the Minsk agreements, then we are talking about a war against Russia that was planned in advance. Don’t say later that we didn’t warn you.”

Despite the Green Party’s traditionally anti-war stance, Baerbock has been one of the most vociferous voices in Germany on behalf of the Ukrainian war effort against Russia. Indeed, speaking from Prague in September, the foreign minister said that her government would be willing to support Ukraine for years “no matter what my German voter thinks.”

Ghislaine Maxwell is launching a $10million appeal against her conviction for sexual abuse after reaching a last-ditch divorce settlement with her former husband.

 

Maxwell's appeal against her 20-year jail sentence was in serious jeopardy because her ex Scott Borgerson was refusing to release money from her $20million trust.

 

The British socialite needed money both to pay an outstanding legal fee of $878,302 (£730,712) and fund the lawyers working on her appeal, which needed to be filed by the end of last month.

 

A breakthrough in talks with Borgerson has drawn a line under the acrimonious dispute, with a source close to the family saying Maxwell, 60, was emboldened by the news.

 

'Ghislaine has reached a divorce settlement with her husband Scott Borgerson and is ready to fight back,' the source said. 'Her lawyers are confident that she has a strong case for appeal.'

Answer:

 

Your question, which seems simple, is actually very difficult to answer! It is a question that many scientists pondered for many centuries - including Johannes Kepler, Edmond Halley , and German physician-astronomer Wilhelm Olbers.

 

There are two things to think about here. Let's take the easy one first and ask "why is the daytime sky blue here on Earth?" That is a question we can answer. The daytime sky is blue because light from the nearby Sun hits molecules in the Earth's atmosphere and scatters off in all directions. The blue color of the sky is a result of this scattering process. At night, when that part of Earth is facing away from the Sun, space looks black because there is no nearby bright source of light, like the Sun, to be scattered. If you were on the Moon, which has no atmosphere, the sky would be black both night and day. You can see this in photographs taken during the Apollo Moon landings.

 

So, now on to the harder part - if the universe is full of stars, why doesn't the light from all of them add up to make the whole sky bright all the time? It turns out that if the universe was infinitely large and infinitely old, then we would expect the night sky to be bright from the light of all those stars. Every direction you looked in space you would be looking at a star. Yet we know from experience that space is black! This paradox is known as Olbers' Paradox. It is a paradox because of the apparent contradiction between our expectation that the night sky be bright and our experience that it is black.

 

Many different explanations have been put forward to resolve Olbers' Paradox. The best solution at present is that the universe is not infinitely old; it is somewhere around 15 billion years old. That means we can only see objects as far away as the distance light can travel in 15 billion years. The light from stars farther away than that has not yet had time to reach us and so can't contribute to making the sky bright.

 

Another reason that the sky may not be bright with the visible light of all the stars is because when a source of light is moving away from you, the wavelength of that light is made longer (which for light means more red.) This means that the light from stars that are moving away from us will become shifted towards red, and may shift so far that it is no longer visible at all. Mother charged after another 6-year-old brings gun to Virginia school: police

The mother of a 6-year-old has been charged by Norfolk, Virginia, police after school staff discovered her child brought a handgun to school — the latest in a shocking spate of young children managing to sneak firearms into class.

Officers responded to a call from Little Creek Elementary School Friday that a student had a weapon, police said. School staff turned over a handgun to officers when they arrived, and no one was injured.

The child’s mother, Letty M. Lopez, 35, has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and allowing a child to have access to loaded firearm, police said. She was released on criminal summons.

Norfolk Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Washington told CNN that police arrived after the children had left school for the day.

“School administration immediately enacted safety and security protocols including calling Norfolk Police,” Washington said. “School administration also immediately contacted division leadership and the Communications office.”

The Little Creek Elementary firearm discovery occurred just over a month after a troubled 6-year-old boy brought a gun to school at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, just 26 miles northwest of Norfolk, and shot his first-grade teacher.

The boy’s parents have not been charged in connection to the shooting and have said the gun their child had somehow gotten access to had been secured.

Friday’s gun scare also follows at least two separate cases earlier this month, where minors were found with firearms on school property. In both instances, adults were charged in connection to the children’s possession of a weapon.

Police responded to a call to Joseph K. Gotwals Elementary School in Norristown, Pennsylvania, after students reported to school staff that a 6-year-old boy had been flashing a gun and bullets on the bus, NBC10 reported.

Officers reportedly recovered an unloaded handgun and loose bullets from the child. The boy’s mother, Jasmin Devlin, 30, surrendered to police and was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment, the station reported.

A 6-year-old, meanwhile, was found with an unloaded 9mm handgun in his backpack at Fairview Elementary School school in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, WRAL reported.

Police charged Marvin Ray Davis, 58, with storage of a firearm to protect a minor. Davis is not related to the boy, but lives in the same house as him.

Syria accuses Israel of deadly strike on central Damascus

Multiple casualties reported in a “residential neighborhood” of the Syrian capital

 

At least one missile hit the Kafar Souseh neighborhood of Damascus overnight, severely damaging a residential building and causing multiple deaths and injuries, state news agency SANA reported early Sunday, blaming the Israeli military.

 

A volley of missiles fired from the occupied Golan Heights targeted Damascus and its surroundings around midnight, and even though Syrian air defenses were activated, at least one of the “hostile” projectiles directly hit a multi-story residential building, the agency said.

 

At least five people, including one soldier, were killed and another 15 civilians injured in the attack, a Syrian military source told SANA, adding that the “Israeli aggression” led to the “destruction of a number of civilian homes” and other “material damage.”

 

The Israel Defense Forces have not acknowledged the strike, in line with their long-standing policy of not discussing operations outside the country. However, citing a pre-emptive right to self-defense against Iran, Israel has carried out “hundreds” of bombing and missile strikes against Syria since 2011. Syria has repeatedly protested the strikes as a violation of its sovereignty, to no avail.

 

Sunday’s missile strike is the first major attack since a series of devastating earthquakes killed thousands of people in northern Syria less than two weeks ago. The neighboring Türkiye, which suffered unbelievable death and destruction, received more attention and international aid, with rescuers from around the globe flying in to help.

 

In Syria’s case, only a few select nations come to its aid, with the government in Damascus blaming Western sanctions and years of a US-led economic blockade and occupation for exacerbating the crisis and hampering relief efforts.
