Here’s How Many Pride Events The Air Force Held In 2022, According To A Just-Launched DEI Newsletter

 

The Air Force hosted 67 Pride celebrations in 2022, according to the first Air Force Office of Diversity and Inclusion quarterly newsletter obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

 

Among those events, top Air Force leaders participated in the first service-wide LGBTQ+ Pride event organized by a new volunteer team within the Air Force focused on LGBTQ+ issues, the newsletter, dated Feb. 10, shows. The LGBTQ Initiatives Team (LIT) participated in 67 Pride commemorations across 33 Air Force and Space Force installations throughout 2022 and intends to organize more events this year.

 

“Through their hard work,” the newsletter states, referring to multiple diversity-focused working groups including the LIT, “we are one step closer to building a more diverse, inclusive, equitable, and accessible Total Force that values and leverages every member’s unique attributes.”

 

The LIT is one of seven “Air Force Barrier Analysis Working Groups” chartered to identify “root causes” and determine whether or not these “root causes” detract from DEI in the force, according to the newsletter. Other groups include the Black and African American Employment Strategy Team, the Disability Action Team and the Women’s Initiative Team.

 

Each all-volunteer team reviews demographic data collected from Air Force and federal-level sources to devise ways to increase ethnic, disability and “gender diversity” in the Air Force, according to the newsletter. Teams then provide recommendations to decision-makers.

 

In 2022, the LIT created a list of LGBTQ+ celebrations and “affinity groups” across the Air Force, the newsletter states. The LIT also hosted over 100 people at the first Air Force-wide LGBTQ+ event, including Under Secretary of the Air Force Gina Ortiz Jones, Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen. Charles Q. Brown, and Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman.

 

In 2023, the LIT plans to develop a centralized Pride network in 2023 and create standardized training for Air Force airmen and Space Force guardians to create their own groups, according to the newsletter. It also intends to publish “transgender medical standards.”

 

The LIT was first established in April 2021, according to a press release. Its plans for next year are the latest steps toward the Air Force’s attested goal of increasing LGBTQ+ inclusion and feelings of acceptance among the ranks.

Zelenskyy Threatens World War III If China Allies With Russia

 

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has threatened that if China allies with Russia against his nation, there will be World War III.

 

Zelenskyy made the comments during an interview with German newspaper Die Welt on Monday.

 

“For us, it is important that China does not support the Russian Federation in this war,” the Ukrainian president said. “In fact, I would like it to be on our side. At the moment, however, I don’t think it’s possible.”

 

Zelenskyy said that he hopes China will make a “pragmatic assessment” of what is happening to avoid additional conflict.

 

“Because if China allies itself with Russia, there will be a world war, and I do think that China is aware of that,” Zelenskyy threatened.

 

Zelenskyy’s threat came one day after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and said that the US was “very concerned that China’s considering providing lethal support to Russia.” He warned China that such a move would have “serious consequences in our relationship.”

 

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin responded on Monday and said that the US “is in no position to make demands of China.”

 

Joe Biden also met with Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Monday, though he still has not visited the people impacted by the disaster in East Palestine, Ohio.

 

During the visit, Biden pledged yet another $500 million in American taxpayer-funded weapons.

Germany comments on fighter jet supplies for Ukraine

Germany's Armed Forces do not possess the military aircraft requested by Kiev, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said

 

Germany can hardly meet Kiev’s requests for fighter jets since its Armed Forces do not possess the relevant aircraft types, its defense minister Boris Pistorius told journalists on Monday.

 

When asked about potential aircraft deliveries to Ukraine, Pistorius said that, so far, the discussions about potential fighter jet deliveries have only covered the "fighter jet types that the Bundeswehr does not possess."

 

"That is a question for other nations rather than Germany," the minister said. He did not rule out potential aircraft deliveries, though. "The military actions in Ukraine is something where one can never absolutely rule out anything," he said, adding, though, that this idea hardly applies to German military aircraft right now.

 

The German Armed Forces, the Bundeswehr, currently mostly relies on Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets. Its Air Force, the Luftwaffe, has over 140 such aircraft, according to a 2021 report by Airbus. Produced since the early 1990s, these fourth-generation jet fighters are produced jointly by the UK’s BAE Systems, Airbus and Italy’s Leonardo. Apart from Typhoons, the German Air Force also has almost 90 older Panavia Tornado jets developed back in the 1970s.

 

In January, Pistorius outright ruled out the idea of Germany sending fighter jets to Ukraine, saying it was "out of the question." He also called such a move too risky, saying that it would "venture into dimensions that I would currently warn against."

 

Ukraine repeatedly called on its Western backers to supply it with heavier weapons like tanks and warplanes amid the ongoing military conflict with Russia. Kiev was mostly focused, however, on US-made F-16 jets.

 

Ukrainian officials recently expressed their optimism about overcoming Western reluctance to donate fighter jets. Last week, Financial Times reported that the US might still consider sending F-16 fighter jets to Kiev, or greenlighting their re-export from other nations that have them.

 

On Monday, Italy’s La Repubblica newspaper also reported that Rome might consider sending five warplanes to Kiev. The deal could involve old AMX Ghibli fighter-bombers that the Italian Air Force plans to retire by the end of the year, the paper said, adding that Italy would only agree to send the jets to Ukraine if other nations provide it with Western-made military aircraft first.

 

The UK, which otherwise spearheaded the Western-made tank delivery campaign for Ukraine, has so far ruled out sending jets to Kiev. Earlier in February, Secretary of Defence Ben Wallace told Sky News that the UK would not send warplanes to Kiev anytime soon.

Russia shows ‘battle-tested’ weapons at defense expo

Rostec presented new small arms, aircraft and armored vehicles at the IDEX in Abu-Dhabi

 

Russia’s state-owned defense consortium Rostec has shown off a selection of new military tech at the 2023 International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) in Abu-Dhabi. Russian defense companies are not officially listed as expo participants but promote from a separate, 1,000-square-meter ‘Russian Pavilion.’

Rostec showcased a number of new products there,ranging from sniper rifles and optical sights to combat helicopters and multiple rocket launchers. Company CEO Sergey Chemezov said last week that although most of the conglomerate’s efforts were on defense orders from the Russian government, Rostec was still fulfilling international contracts. Russia “does not intend to give up positions on the world arms market,” he said.

 

Chemezov said Rostec was presenting over 150 different items, “most of which are already tested in real combat,” adding that this was “one of the main advantages of Russian weapons when compared to competitors.”

 

Among the items shown was the 1K144-E, a portable stealth surveillance kit which can reportedly identify enemy troops and vehicles while remaining completely invisible. The device includes seismic, infrared and magnetometric sensors that can be put underground and send data about opponents’ numbers and direction to the operator via a radio channel.

 

IDEX is a biennial UAE-based arms fair for the defense industry, governments, armed forces and military personnel to showcase their newest developments and is taking place all week from February 20. Russian companies were not listed as official exhibitors, but were nonetheless available in the separate pavilion and easily accessible by expo attendees.

 

Foreign countries have expressed interest in Russian air defense systems, “which have already proven themselves during military actions,” an official from Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation told the TASS news agency on Monday.

 

Alexander Mikheyev, CEO of Rosoboronexport, the Russian state agency for international arms trade, said Moscow was using IDEX to consider various options for joint projects, including the development of a fifth-generation fighter based on the Checkmate light tactical aircraft, also known as Su-75.
