Kremlin reacts to Kiev’s claim about raids into Russia

Putin’s spokesman rejected Ukraine’s assertion that it wasn’t involved in the recent incidents

 

Moscow believes that Kiev is responsible for a recent spate of attempted attacks on Russian soil despite Ukrainian claims to the contrary, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday. His remarks came after the Russian Defense Ministry said drone attacks had been repelled in various parts of the country.

 

During a call with journalists, Peskov was asked to comment on a statement by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s top aide, Mikhail Podoliak, who suggested earlier on Wednesday that Kiev “doesn’t strike” Russian territory. Peskov replied that Moscow “doesn’t believe” those claims.

 

According to a daily report from the Russian Ministry of Defense on Wednesday, ground forces shot down or disabled ten Ukrainian UAVs that were aiming to strike Crimea.

 

The ministry said separately that two drones were neutralized early on Tuesday when they were trying to attack targets in Russia’s southern Krasnodar and Adygea regions. Local officials also reported drone incidents in Belgorod, Bryansk, and Moscow regions on Monday and Tuesday.

 

In a Twitter post on Wednesday, Podoliak described the raidsas “internal attacks on infrastructure facilities by unidentified flying objects.”

 

Ukrainian officials typically deny or do not confirminvolvement in incursions inside Russian territory, but have said that they view sites in Crimea as legitimate targets. The peninsula voted to leave Ukraine and join Russia shortly after the 2014 coup in Kiev. Ukraine has refused to recognize the new status of the area.

 

Moscow launched its military operation in the neighboring state a year ago, citing the need to protect the people of Donbass and Kiev’s failure to implement the 2014-2015 Minsk peace accords. Russian regions that share a border with Ukraine have since been repeatedly shelled.

 

In December, drones attacked the Dyagilevo and Engels military airfields located 500km (310 miles) and 700km (435 miles) from Ukrainian-held territory respectively. Moscow said that Kiev was behind the raids.

EU nation’s MPs greenlight joining NATO

Meanwhile, two members of the bloc haven’t ratified Helsinki’s bid yet

 

The Finnish parliament on Wednesday overwhelmingly voted in favor of joining NATO. The vote was held before Hungary and Türkiye had the chance to ratify the Nordic nation’s accession to the US-led military bloc.

 

The bill was supported by 184 MPs of the 200-seat parliament, while only seven voted against it and one abstained. Seven others were not present during the vote.

 

Some of the bill’s opponents, including the Left Alliance MPs Markus Mustajarvi and Johannes Yrttiaho, expressed their concerns over Finland not setting any conditions for its NATO membership regarding a potential deployment of nuclear weapons to its territory.

 

“I consider [it to be] the biggest problem with NATO membership … that Finland accepts NATO’s nuclear weapons policy and at the same time effectively renounces its non-nuclear status,” Yrttiaho said during the debate on Tuesday.

 

Finland’s foreign and defense ministers then assured the MPs that NATO membership would not change Helsinki’s stance on nuclear weapons. “I have already stated before that we are not trying to bring them to Finland, and no one is trying to force them here either,”Finnish Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen said.

 

The results of the vote were hailed by Finnish parliament speaker Matti Vanhanen, who called it a “historic decision” comparable to Finland joining the EU in the 1990s. The parliament head also said that NATO membership once again placed Finland “on the map of Europe.”

 

The vote comes as NATO itself is yet to accept Finland into its ranks. While 28 members of the bloc formally ratified the bid of the Nordic nation and neighboring Sweden, Hungary and Türkiye are yet to do so.

 

The parliament justified the move by saying it wanted to finalize its part of the process before the elections scheduled for early April. The legislation must now be signed by the president before it comes into force.

 

Last week, Budapest indicated it might need more time for its lawmakers to vote on the bids by Sweden and Finland to join the Western military bloc. However, on Wednesday, MPs started the ratification process for the Nordic nations’ bids following calls by Hungary’s president for it to be sped up.

 

Ankara has previously expressed reluctance to allow either of the two nations to join NATO, citing their support for Kurdish groups that Ankara considers to be terrorists. Türkiye, Sweden and Finland signed an agreement last June to address those concerns and pave the way for approving NATO’s expansion.

Russian airlines surviving sanctions – Bloomberg

Restrictions targeting the country’s aviation sector have largely failed, the agency claims

 

Sanctions against Russian aviation have led to mixed results but have failed to cause the significant pain to the sector that was expected by Western countries, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing industry analysts.

 

The Ukraine-related sanctions forced two of the world’s largest aircraft manufacturers, Boeing and Airbus, to stop doing business in Russia. Meanwhile, over 40% of the aircraft operating in Russia were owned by foreign lessors that demanded their property back shortly after the restrictions were introduced.

 

However, Russian air carriers are still operating 467 Airbus and Boeing jets versus the 544 a year ago, according to data from researcher Cirium, as cited by the news agency.

 

The country’s airlines reportedly keep flying the jets without software updates and other forms of support from Boeing and Airbus. Both manufacturers told the agency that they had stopped providing parts, maintenance or technical support to airlines or maintenance companies in Russia.

 

In February, Russian Federal Air Transport Agency head Alexander Neradko said that Boeing and Airbus planes operated by Russian airlines will be able to fly safely until 2030 if properly maintained.

 

In an attempt to isolate Russia, the US, EU, and a number of other countries closed their airspace to Russian airlines. However, despite losing many destinations, Russian carriers have reportedly increased the number of flights to Thailand, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.

 

According to Cirium estimates, Russian airports are now served by some 270 international flights daily compared to 300 a year ago.

 

At the same time, Russia’s retaliatory measures forced EU and US carriers to make long and expensive detours on flights to Asia. Russian airspace is still open to airlines from nations that opted not to support the sanctions, such as the UAE, which has ramped up service.

 

“Clearly the sanctions didn’t work as the West thought they would, and the global aviation industry is a lot leakier than anyone thought,” industry consultant Richard Aboulafia told Bloomberg. “Yes, safety will deteriorate the longer these sanctions go on, but it’s clearly not going to bring connectivity within Russia and from Russia to a grinding halt.”

US Intel Reportedly Concludes 'Havana Syndrome' Not Caused by Foreign Adversary

 

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The so-called “Havana Syndrome” illness did not result from the actions of a foreign adversary using an energy weapon to harm the health of US diplomatic staff overseas, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing a new intelligence report.

 

Five US intelligence agencies concluded it was “very unlikely” that any foreign adversary targeted US diplomats and intelligence staff with the help of some sort of energy weapon that caused strange and painful acoustic sensations, according to the report.

“Britain often fulfills the role of strengthening the courage… and the resolve” of the United States, he said. However, the UK “will not change its policy without the United States… so, the key decision is still in Washington.”

 

Hague is not the first Western official to have been duped by the pranksters. Last month, the pair had a conversation with former US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, who stated that the West should continue supporting the “brave Ukrainian people” because they “are doing the dirty work of what we never wanted to do here in the United States.”

Public data shows that since the pandemic, more than 2,600 downtown businesses have filed changes of address with the U.S. Postal Service to leave their downtown ZIP codes.

 

Several big-name employers, from Unitus Community Credit Union to Umpqua Bank, have been among the mass exodus, carried out by owners who have taken issue with the rising crime levels and homelessness - and the city's failure to address it.

 

Once hailed as the 'crown jewel of the West Coast' for its trendy art and food scenes, The City of Roses has been in peril since 2020, largely due to efforts to defund police and lax bail reform laws that leave little to no deterrent for increasingly brazen criminals.

 

Local leaders are now sharing their strategies for solving the crime and livability issues, as they threaten to spill over into bordering counties, where the court of public opinion is generally more conservative.

 

'Each area has different challenges, but what we're seeing in the metro area is absolutely rising crime,' Washington County District Attorney Kevin Barton told Fox News of Portland's crime wave, which, similar to other Dem-led cities such as San Francisco and Chicago, began during the pandemic.

 

But while crime in the smaller, more suburban Washington and Clackamas counties has started to level off - due to officials like Barton filing charges and making arrests - crime in Portland has persisted, a crucial difference that Barton says is illustrated by Portland's still-worsening crime rate.

 

The city is also in the midst of a homeless crisis that has confounded local officials, with several stores forced to permanently shutter due to break-ins now common due to rampant crime, making the businesses no longer financially viable.

To residents wondering why the Rains store is no more, a searing note on the front door reveals all with 'unrelenting criminal behavior' and 'escalating safety issues for our employees' to blame.

 

Nike, whose HQ is in nearby Beaverton, also had to close a long-standing community store for weeks because shoplifting was so out of control and iconic ice cream shop Salt & Straw last week out of Oregon.

 

The store's owner Marcy Landolfo put up a notice on its window explaining her decision to close the store.

 

'Our city is in peril. Small businesses (and large) cannot sustain doing business, in our city's current state. We have no protection, or recourse, against the criminal behavior that goes unpunished. Do not be fooled into thinking that insurance companies cover losses. We have sustained 15 break-ins … we have not received any financial reimbursement since the 3rd,' Landolfo wrote.

Ukrainian military unit named after Boris Johnson 'is wiped out by Wagner troops'

A Ukrainian military unit named after has been wiped out by Russia's Wagner troops in the besieged city of Bakhmut, the mercenary group claimed today.

 

A Wagner commander claimed the 24th Mechanised Brigade was defeated in intense fighting in Bakhmut, as Kremlin forces try to encircle Ukrainian troops there.

 

Wagner troops posted video online showing a Ukrainian flag and trophies inside a cellar that had been used by 's forces.

 

On the flag, a message read: 'Boris Johnson's unit. Boris Johnson.'

 

The former prime minister is a hero in Ukraine for galvanising the West to support Kyiv after Vladimir Putin launched his invasion. He has been repeatedly praised by the nation's president Volodymyr Zelensky.

 

A Wagner commander claimed in a video: 'The Johnson unit was holding a large stronghold in the woods [in Bakhmut].'

 

'When they were hit, a flag like this was found,' he said, showing Mr Johnson's name on the material.

 

Ukraine has not confirmed whether its 24th Mechanised Brigade, which has been fighting in Bakhmut for months, has been defeated.

 

Members of the unit earlier took part in peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and Iraq and in international Nato command and staff exercises codenamed Peace Shield.

 

Moscow's troops are continuing their relentless attacks on the small mining city in eastern Ukraine in their bid to capture it and encircle defending forces.

 

Bakhmut had a population of about 70,000 before the war but has been ruined after months of fighting, being the focal point of Russian assaults and Ukrainian defence.

 

'The enemy continues to advance in the direction of Bakhmut. He does not stop storming the city,' the Ukrainian military said in a morning briefing.

 

A Russian takeover would open the way to seizing the last remaining urban settlements in the industrial Donetsk province.

 

Zelensky, in a video address late on Tuesday, said the battle for Bakhmut was 'most difficult' but its defence was essential.

'This breakthrough on Bakhmut's northern flank poses a clear threat to us,' he said in comments on social media.

 

Although most Russian attacks were focused on Bakhmut and other towns and villages in Donetsk, the Ukrainian military said its forces had repelled 85 Russian attacks on different sections of the front line over the past day.

The manned 178-foot LTA craft can remain aloft and nearly stationary for more than twelve hours, performing various missions in support of technology development for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) concepts.

 

"Airships offer extreme utility in C4ISR roles and patrol missions where persistent stare and reliable communications are often more important than speed," said Bert Race, MZ-3A Government Flight Representative and Project Manager. Scientific Development Squadron (VXS) 1, stationed at the Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Md., is the U.S. Navy's sole Science & Technology research squadron. Air in East Palestine IS toxic, researchers find - despite EPA ruling

The air in contains 'higher than normal' concentrations of , scientists have suggested. Experts from A&M and Carnegie Mellon University have been conducting their own air quality tests using a mobile testing unit in East .

 

They said that if the chemicals persist at the current levels, it could cause long-term health issues for residents, the researchers warned. The finding is in direct contrast to the US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) ongoing assurance that the air quality in the area is safe.

While they said the findings are not necessarily an 'immediate health concern', they said repeated exposure over time could be damaging. There are already warning signs among residents, including reports of altered voices and rashes that look like chemical burns.

 

Dr Albert Presto is an associate research professor of mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon’s Wilton E. Scott Institute for Energy Innovation who is part of the university’s chemical monitoring effort in East Palestine.

 

He told local news outlet : 'That material that's dumped onto the ground or into the water could reemit from the ground whenever the temperature changes or whenever it's windy.'

 

Dr Presto also told : 'It’s not elevated to the point where it’s necessarily like an immediate "evacuate the building" health concern.

 

'But we don’t know necessarily what the long-term risk is or how long that concentration that causes that risk will persist.'

 

The mobile testing van has been used by the team over the last decade to look at how air pollution varies in places such as Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

 

They compared their data in East Palestine to levels of the same chemicals recorded this month by the EPA.

 

As of yesterday, the EPA had screened the air in 578 homes, and declared that the chemical pollution levels are not above residential air quality standards.

 

EPA orders resumption of waste removal from Ohio train derailment. Acrolein was calculated to be the biggest concern for residents, the Texas A&M and Carnegie Mellon University researchers found.

 

According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, acrolein is either a clear, colorless gas or a pale yellow, strong-smelling liquid. It evaporates easily at normal temperatures, producing toxic concentrations.

 

It is poisonous no matter what the exposure route is. It causes inflammation and irritation of the skin, respiratory tract and mucus membranes.

 

After it is inhaled, it can cause delayed pulmonary edema — excess fluid in the lungs. This can lead to coughs, chest pain and fatigue. It is formed when fossil fuels are burnt and is also a by-product of fires.

 

The other eight chemicals found to be at higher than normal average concentrations are: benzene, vinyl chloride, butadiene, naphthalene, o-Xylene, trichloroethylene, trichloroethane and butadiene.

 

Vinyl chloride is a colorless manmade gas which burns easily. It is mainly used to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a hard plastic resin used to make plastic products including pipes and wire and cable exteriors.

 

PVC is not known or suspected to cause cancer, but vinyl chloride is associated with a higher risk of a rare form of liver cancer (hepatic angiosarcoma), as well as primary liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma), brain and lung cancers, lymphoma and leukemia.

 

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) lists vinyl chloride as carcinogenic to humans, which means it has sufficient scientific proof that it causes cancer in people.

 

People who are exposed to vinyl chloride over many years are likely to get liver damage and cancer. It will most likely enter someone's body by breathing it in, but it can also be ingested via contaminated drinking water.

 

The chemical travels through the body in the blood and the liver, breaking it down into other chemicals, some of which can cause more damage than the vinyl chloride itself.

 

According to the CDC, the gas has a faint sweet odor, but the threshold at which it will smell is 'too high to provide an adequate warning of hazardous concentrations'.

 

This means people can be overexposed to it without being aware it is even in the air. A five-minute exposure to over twice the level it can be smelt at can cause dizziness.

 

At levels five times that high, exposure can cause drowsiness, a loss of coordination, issues with sight and hearing, disorientation, nausea, headache, and burning or tingling in the arms and legs.

 

Sustained exposure can lead to death due to the central nervous system shutting down. The gas is also found in tobacco smoke. When burned or heated to a high enough temperature, the gas turns into hydrogen chloride, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and traces of phosgene….

The Prince of Wales received suggestions from the BBC presenter - later publicly exposed as a paedophile - on how to navigate major public incidents, as well on his own speeches, according to a new Netflix documentary.

 

Seeking advice in one letter from the 1990s, he said Savile was “so good at understanding what makes people operate”.

 

The TV presenter was later revealed to be asexual predator who used his BBC, charity and hospital work as a smokescreen. After his death in 2011, hundreds of survivors came forward with stories of abuse.

 

New docuseries Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story looks at his links with the ruling class, including former prime minister Margaret Thatcher and the British Royal Family.

 

It reveals a number of letters reportedly sent by the Prince of Wales in the 1980s and 1990s that were kept by Savile - and how the presenter offered advice on public relations.

 

One letter, sent in 1990, said: “You are so good at understandingwhat makes people operate and wonderfully sceptical and practical. Can you cast an eye over this draft and let me know how we can best appeal to people on this score?”

 

Another thanked Savile for help on a speech in 1991. It ead: “It really was extremely good of you to take the trouble to put together those splendid notes and they provided me with considerable food for thought. With renewed and heartfelt thanks. Yours ever, Charles.”

 

The letters were shown by Alison Bellamy, a Savlle biographer, who told the documentary Savile seemed a sort of “informal chief advisor” to the Prince of Wales at the time.

 

They reveal Savile also offered advice on how to react to major public incidents a month after the Lockerbie bombing.

 

This include advice that the Queen should be “advised in advance of any proposed action of family members” and an incident room with several phone lines.

 

Prince Charles replied to Savile: “I attach a copy of my memo on disasters, which incorporates your points and which I showed to my father, and he showed it to Her Majesty.”

 

On a separate occasion, he allegedly sent a letterasking if Savile would meet his sister-in-law the Duchess of York, who he said could benefit from “some of your straightforward common sense”.

Horror train crash kills dozens

 

The collision between freight and passenger trains in Greece caused a blaze with people trapped inside overturned cars

 

At least 36 people have been killed and dozens injured following a head-on collision between two trains in northeastern Greece. Some 350 passengers were on board one of the trains at the time of the crash. Rescuers on site have pulled many survivors from the wreckage.

 

The incident took place shortly after midnight on Wednesday near the town of Tempe, close to Greece’s eastern coast and some 233km (144 miles) north of Athens.

 

According to the latest figures from the Greek Fire Department, the death toll now stands at 36, with 66 hospitalized, six of whom are said to be in intensive care units.

 

Earlier, state-run broadcaster ERT News said that at least 25 of those injured are in “serious condition,” noting that several train cars derailed in the collision.

 

Greek officials say that firefighters are now focused on the first three carriages of the train.

 

“It was a very powerful collision. This is a terrible night… It’s hard to describe the scene,” Costas Agorastos, the regional governor of Greece’s Thessaly region, told state media, adding that around 250 survivors had been evacuated to Thessaloniki on buses.

 

Passengers reached by local media described the moment of the crash, saying they felt a “strong jolt” before the train lost power, forcing panicked travelers to smash windows in order to flee overturned railcars.

 

Thirty ambulances reportedly rushed to the scene to treat the victims, with multiple hospitals in nearby Larissa now operating on an “emergency basis,” local reports added. Fire crews battled a blaze that erupted in some cars, while the police and military have also mobilized rescue teams.

The owner of Insider and Politico tells journalists: AI is coming for your jobs

One of Europe’s biggest media groups has warned journalists that artificial intelligence (AI) could steal their jobs, and has provided tips for how reporters can avoid the chop.

 

The chief executive of Axel Springer — which owns Insider, Politico and German tabloid newspaper Bild — told employees in a memo Tuesday that “artificial Intelligence has the potential to make independent journalism better than it ever was — or simply replace it.”

 

In the memo, shared with CNN, Mathias Döpfner predicts that AI will soon be able to aggregate information much better than humans, and urges newsrooms to place a greater emphasis on commentary, exclusive news and investigations that can’t be done by machines.

 

Journalists would still be needed to understand people’s “true motives”, he said.

 

“In short, the creation of exclusive and attractive content remains irreplaceable and is going to become even more critical to success for publishers,” Döpfner wrote. “Only those who create the best original content will survive.”

Döpfner’s warnings come three months after Open AI opened up access to ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot. The bot is capable of providing lengthy, thoughtful responses to questions, and can write full essays, responses in job applications and journalistic articles. Its instant popularity has turbocharged a race among tech companies to bring their own AI products to market.

 

ChatGPT has become so popular that JPMorgan Chase (JPM), the biggest bank in the United States, has restricted its use among workers. Public schools in New York City have also banned the bot over concerns students could use it to cheat on their assignments.

 

Axel Springer is aiming to become a purely digital publisher, though turning its print titles — including Bild — into online-only publications will likely “take a few more years,” Döpfner said.

 

The executive also said there would be “significant” job cuts across its business “in the areas of production, layout, proofreading and administration,” without specifying how many. Staff in journalistic roles, such as reporters and specialist editors, are not currently the target of cuts, Döpfner said.

 

The company will try to avoid involuntary redundancies, he said, and will be “guided by a sense of fairness and humanity” when reducing its workforce.

Israeli parliament passes death penalty bill

 

Palestinians say the law – written to target “terrorists” – is “rooted in Jewish supremacy”

 

Israeli lawmakers have voted in favor of a bill that would impose the death penalty on “terrorists” who murder Israelis. Backed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his hardline allies, the bill has been bitterly opposed by Palestinians and foreign observers.

 

The death penalty bill passed its first reading in the Israeli parliament by 55 votes to nine on Wednesday. Most of the opposition – led by former Prime Minister Yair Lapid – abstained from the vote in protest.

 

The bill was authored by MP Limor Son Har-Melech and supported by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. Both Son Har-Melech and Ben-Gvir are members of the ‘Jewish Power’ party, a radical Zionist faction that helped Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party back into power in last November’s elections.

 

Under the legislation, anyone who “intentionally or out of indifference causes the death of an Israeli citizen when the act is carried out from a racist motive or hate to a certain public… and with the purpose of harming the State of Israel and the rebirth of the Jewish people in its homeland” shall face execution, with no chance of prison time.

 

The law would apply in the West Bank, which although partially administered by the Palestinian Authority, is subject to Israeli military law.

 

The bill crosses “a clear red line as part of Israel’s slide into total fascism,” Arab-Israeli political party Hadash Ta’al said in a statement. "Today it is the Palestinians, tomorrow it will be the protestors on the streets. Ben-Gvir will be easy on the trigger when it comes to determining who is a terrorist."

 

The Palestinian Authority said that the bill is “cruel, barbaric, and inhumane,” describing it as “rooted in Jewish supremacy.” Its passage will lead to Palestinians “arbitrarily and ceremonially being put on death row,” its statement continued.

 

Thousands of Israelis gathered outside the country’s parliament building in recent days to protest the bill, while opposition poured in from abroad. Speaking after a meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen on Tuesday, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock called the bill “particularly worrying,” given that Israel has not executed anyone since Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann was hanged in 1962.

Russia Repels 10 Drones Over Crimea As Kiev Denies It's Behind Spate Of Attacks

 

The Kremlin said Wednesday that it prevented another 'massive' drone attack on its territory - this time in Russian-held Crimea, stating that a total of 10 drones were shot down or disabled through electronic warfare measures.

 

"An attempt by the Kyiv regime to carry out a massive drone attack on the facilities of the Crimean peninsula has been prevented," the Russian defense ministry (MoD) said in a statement, as cited in TASS.

 

"Six Ukrainian attack drones were shot down by air defense systems. Another four Ukrainian drones were disabled by electronic warfare. There were no casualties and destruction on the ground," the MoD said.

 

It comes a day after a spate of drone attacks on and near multiple Russian cities were reported. Some of them were reported downed, but others appeared to have hit their targets - including against an oil facility in Tuapse, which lies about 150 miles southeast of the Crimean peninsula, about 500 kilometers from the nearest Ukrainian-held territory.

 

During those prior attacks, inbound enemy UAVs had been observed outside of Moscow, St. Petersburg, and over the Belgorod region. On Tuesday there were in total possibly half-a-dozen to a dozen or more inbound drones which had been sent against various Russian cities.

 

Given the air raid alerts and sirens that went out warning heavily populated areas over a span of Monday into Tuesday, The Daily Beast had described it as a day of chaos for Russians:

 

The strikes were part of what local media described as a "mass drone attack" that appears to have intensified in the last 24 hours.

 

On Monday morning, residents of an apartment building in the Belgorod region, near the border with Ukraine, were forced to evacuate in the middle of the night after one of four drones crashed into the building, according to Baza. Another drone landed on the roof of a supermarket and exploded, scorching the premises.

 

The fresh drone attack on the Crimean peninsula comes amid fresh denials by the Ukrainian government that it's targeting Russian soil using drones.

I took a voluntary transfer to a place only 2 people in the FBI wanted to go, and I volunteered to do the least popular job there -working Indian reservation crimes. (This involved an approximately 100 miles from our office - a drive I made out and back sometimes 2x a day without complaints). I was doing the job I wanted in the place I asked to be.

 

I followed the rules for religious accommodation requests on Sept 22, 2021 in order to notify my chain of management the Covid vaccines were a no-go for me. It was acknowledged. Then on Oct 27, 2021, I went to Rep. Yvette Herrell's office to report the FBI's new "threat tag" email sent from the Counterterrorism Division Assistant Director Carlton Peeples. I reported Afghan parolee camp issues. I reported that the FBI had prioritized "violations of the FACE Act" as one of the top 3 Counterterrorism concerns in NM - a state with 180 miles of Mexican border and only 2 abortion clinics.

 

I was removed from the office at the end of November because the FBI - which didn't make this official policy - sent out a "requirement" to test for Covid every 72 hours if you were requesting a religion accommodation. This changed to 1x per week. Then no testing at all when the State of the Union was broadcast, and I was permitted back in the office. My badge/gun/equipment and job were then taken 6 weeks later. But not before I was reported as an "insider threat," transferred off the low priority Criminal squad onto a National Security squad (despite not having an SCI read-in for almost a year), assigned zero work despite the statement this "not a punishment" transfer, was counseled an anonymous employee was offended by a conversation I had with NOT that employee, and a host of other weird behaviors. Among the charges Singh pled guilty to were conspiracy to make unlawful political contributions and to defraud the Federal Election Commission. Prosecutors alleged Singh contributed to candidates and political committees and reported those contributions to the FEC in the names of people who didn’t actually pay for them.

 

According to FEC records, Singh contributed roughly $9.7 million last year and in late 2020 to various candidates and committees.

 

Singh’s lawyers, Andrew Goldstein and Russell Capone, said in a statement that their client is “deeply sorry for his role in this and has accepted responsibility for his actions.”

 

They added: “He wants to do everything he can to make things right for victims, including by assisting the government to the best of his ability in this case.”

 

Singh’s plea “underscores once again that the crimes at FTX were vast in scope and consequence,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement.

 

“They rocked our financial markets with a multibillion-dollar fraud. Last week, prosecutors filed new fraud charges against Bankman-Fried, who has pleaded not guilty in the case. Bankman-Fried is awaiting trial while living with his parents in Palo Alto, California, after signing a $250 million personal recognizance bond.

Scientists Raise Alarm as Study Links mRNA Shots to Brain & Heart Damage

 

Scientists are raising the alarm after a bombshell peer-reviewed study has linked mRNA shots to fatal brain and heart damage.

Homelessness Up over a Quarter in England as Govt Puts Up Thousands of Migrants in Hotels

 

The number of homeless people sleeping on the streets of England has risen by over a quarter over the previous year at the same time as that the government is spending billions on housing illegal migrants in hotels across the country.

 

According to figures released from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities which recorded a snapshot from a single night in the autumn of last year, there were 3,069 people “sleeping rough” on the streets last year, compared to 2,443 in 2021, representing a 25.6 per cent increase.

 

London, run by far-left Mayor Sadiq Khan, saw the sharpest surge of homeless people on the year, increasing by 34 per cent from 640 in 2021 to 858 last year.

 

When broken down by nationality, though specific countries besides the UK were not listed, the figures showed that the overwhelming number of homeless people recorded were British-born, totalling some 1,966 people or 64 per cent. Meanwhile, 632 hailed from EU nations, 179 came from neither the UK nor the EU, and the nationality of 292 was listed as “not known”.

 

The problem of homelessness continues to be a heavily male problem, with nearly 83 per cent, or 2,539 homeless people who were recorded being men last year. In contrast, the snapshot listed 464 women as being homeless and 66 people not identified as either gender.

 

The chief executive of the charity Homeless Link, Rick Henderson described the increase as a “massive collective failure,” adding: “The cost of living crisis has exacerbated longstanding drivers of homelessness, such as a shortage of affordable housing, an often punitive welfare system and increasingly stretched health services.”

 

While the Conservative government published a strategy to fulfil its manifesto commitment to end homelessness in September, dubbed “Ending rough sleeping for good”, the issue has compounded in part due to the government-provided housing benefits to the poor not keeping up with inflation, putting many more people at risk of being put out on the streets.

 

A government spokesman said: “Over half a million households have been prevented from becoming homeless or supported into settled accommodation since 2018 and rough sleeping remains well below pre-pandemic levels. But we know there is more to do to help families at risk of losing their homes and to end rough sleeping for good.”

 

Though thousands of British citizens are currently sleeping on the streets, the government has seen fit to spend billions in taxpayer money on housing thousands of illegal migrants while they apply for asylum. There are currently over 40,000 migrants being put up in hotels across the country, with estimates putting the cost of the scheme at as much as £7 million per day.

 

In total, the asylum system, which has been overwhelmed by record numbers of illegals pouring over the English Channel, has already topped £2 billion per year.

Johns Hopkins professor Dr. Marty Makary gave an impassioned speech Tuesday about how the United States government was the “greatest perpetrator of misinformation” during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Makary was testifying before the House COVID subcommittee alongside other top medical experts.

 

“The greatest perpetrator of misinformation during the pandemic has been the United States government,” Makary said. “Misinformation that COVID was spread through surface transmission, that vaccinated immunity was far greater than natural immunity, that masks were effective, now we have the definitive Cochran review, what do you do with that review? Cochran is the most authoritative evidence body in all of medicine, it has been for decades. Do you just ignore it? Not talk about it?”

Our two top experts on vaccines quit the FDA in protest over this particular issue — using boosters in young, healthy people. “Over and over again we’ve seen something that goes far beyond using your best judgment with the information at hand,” he continued. “We’ve seen something which is unforgivable and that is the weaponization of medical research itself. The CDC putting out its own shoddy studies, like their own study looking at natural immunity, looking at one state for two months when they had data for years on all 50 states. Why did they only report that one sliver of data? Why did they salami slice the database? Cause it gave them the result they wanted.”

 

“Public health officials were intellectually dishonest,” he added.

 

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya echoed a similar sentiment during his testimony, saying that “science bureaucrats” abused “their authority to create an illusion of scientific consensus in favor of destructive ideas.”

 

Their testimony comes just days after the Department of Energy concluded the COVID-19 pandemic likely originated from a Chinese lab leak. The theory had been suggested several times since the beginning of the pandemic, mainly by those on the right, who were labeled “conspiracy theorists” and “fringe.”

 

Meanwhile President Joe Biden’s National Security Council held meetings with the CDC about alleged COVID-19 disinformation in 2021, focusing specifically on alleged vaccine disinformation.

 

In California, a district judge recently blocked a bill that would reprimand physicians who shared information about the virus that did not fall within the “contemporary scientific consensus.”

The former head of Gazprombank’s Swiss unit and three of his colleagues were hit with criminal charges in Zurich over their alleged mishandling of financial transactions tied to a cellist confidant of Vladimir Putin. The chief of Gazprombank Schweiz AG, two senior executives at the bank and a client relationship manager knew that Sergei Roldugin, who held accounts on behalf of shell companies in Panama and Cyprus, was a “close friend” of the Russian president and was godfather to his daughter, according to the 18-page Swiss indictment. Despite knowing he was a PEP or “politically exposed person” in Swiss bank vernacular, the bankers failed to carry out proper checks into whether Roldugin was actually the beneficial owner of the accounts’ assets, the prosecutors wrote. Roldugin, who is also a cellist and conductor, rose to public prominence after it emerged that he was the beneficial owners of offshore accounts that were exposed in the Panama Papers investigative reporting project in 2016.

 

The four men, three of whom are Russians and one Swiss, “continued the business relationship inadmissibly, although they themselves had serious doubts about the correctness of the information about the beneficial owner,” according to prosecutors. They are seeking a seven-month suspended sentence with two years of probation for the men, who can’t be identified under Swiss law.

 

Gazprombank declined to immediately comment. The Panama Papers revelations prompted Swiss banking regulator Finma to investigate Gazprombank’s Swiss unit, which concluded in 2018 that the bank had “serious shortcomings” in the measures it took to combat money-laundering. Gazprombank had failed to carry out adequate economic background checks on its clients, Finma decided at the time as it prohibited the Swiss bank from accepting new private clients until further notice. Gazprombank Schweiz wound down operations last year in the months after Russian’s invasion of Ukraine. The trial, if the accused show up and it goes ahead, will be a test of Switzerland’s willingness and ability to prosecute a politically-charged case. Although the country has been neutral for centuries, it broke with that tradition to adopt European Union sanctions against Putin and those around him a year ago.

‘Never Seen A Witness Stonewall Like This’: Hawley Goes Off On Biden Nominee Who Refuses To Own Up To Her Social Media Posts

 

Republican Missouri Senator Josh Hawley grilled the Biden administration’s national Archivist nominee on Tuesday over her overtly partisan tweets.

 

In a hearing of the Senate Homeland Security Committee Tuesday, Hawley took to task the nominee, Dr. Colleen Shogan, over tweets she wrote blasting Republican politicians and COVID policies. Shogan locked her Twitter account when she was nominated to lead the National Archives and Records Administration, but Hawley obtained several of her posts anyway. Exasperated after she repeatedly refused to answer for her statements, Hawley blasted Shogan for stonewalling.

 

“I asked you to provide the public posts that had previously been available on Twitter because the ones that we have were pretty disturbing,” Hawley began. “You responded as follows, and I quote, ‘My personal Twitter account is comprised of posts about my mystery novels, events at the White House Historical Association, Pittsburgh sports teams, travels and my dog.’ Is this an accurate statement?”

 

First, Hawley called out a post Shogan made in February 2022 complaining about the fact that mask mandates had been lifted for children under the age of five. He then asked if such an overtly political statement was characteristic of her Twitter feed. “My social media is in my personal capacity,” Shogan responded.

 

“Answer my question, please, because you’ve testified under oath that you only posted about your dog, and sports teams and novels, and you also said you wouldn’t give this committee any of your public posts,” Hawley fired back. But Shogan again refused to own up to the posts. Hawley pressed her again. “You are under oath before this committee, and I have to say, you have placed this issue squarely in record by repeatedly refusing to answer,” he said.

 

Next Hawley pointed out a post that Shogan retweeted calling for an assault weapons ban. He also pointed to a Twitter post she made in 2021 in which she said that Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz “ought to stay in his lane and not worry about what’s going on in Pittsburgh,” apparently in reference to investigations into the 2020 election. He then pointed to a post from December 2020 wishing that former President Trump would have his vetoes overridden and calling him a “weak policy president.” He also pointed to another post on January 5, 2021, claiming Trump would pardon himself for trying to overturn the election.

 

In another post Hawley pointed out, Shogan replied to a user complaining about religious flags on the grounds of the Library of Congress, and gave advice on how to complain and have the posts taken down. In every case, Shogan simply averted her eyes and repeated that her Twitter account was in her personal capacity.

 

An exasperated Hawley finally gave up. “I have to say, I have been here for four years in the Senate,” he said. “I have never seen a witness stonewall like this before. Never. And I’ve seen a lot. This is extraordinary. … I mean, this is unbelievable, and you want to be the archivist of the United States. You lied to us under oath, you lied to us in your [Questions for the Record], you just lied to me a second ago under oath, and now you’re sitting here stonewalling, not answering questions about public posts that you’ve made.”

 

 

“Mr. Chairman, I have to tell you, this is the most extraordinary thing I have seen in my brief time in the Senate,” Hawley concluded. “I have never seen a witness blatantly lie under oath like Dr. Shogan has just done to this committee, stonewalled this committee, and just repeatedly refused to answer my questions about her own posts that are in public. For these reasons, I will oppose your nomination and I strongly, strongly urge this committee to take action on this and force this witness to own up to the fact that she is misleading us right now before our eyes.”

Those who respond to the text expressing interest in the offer are given instructions to log in to a live training session on Zoom in which organizers explain how the program works. A video recording of one such training session the day after the Supreme Court primary reveals that people aren’t just talking to their friends and family about voting, but rather adding their names and contact information to Wisconsin Takes Action’s database and then repeatedly contacting them to ensure that they vote for liberal candidate Janet Protasiewicz.

 

This was made abundantly clear during the hour-long training session.

 

“The primary was just last night for the Supreme Court so we know who will be on the ballot in the general election,” said one organizer who introduced himself as Christian. “We have Dan Kelly, the conservative former Supreme Court justice and then Janet Protasiewicz—the progressive circuit court judge currently—and she is the progressive candidate who just won the primary.

 

“Of course, Wisconsin Takes Action is focused on putting forth progressive ideas and implementing progressive laws, so, you know, we really are looking forward to her as the candidate for this upcoming election.”

 

To get her elected, Christian explained, the group is using a technique called “relational organizing.”

 

“It’s really simple. In traditional organizing in campaigns, we may think about campaign offices, someone making a call to a constituent and telling someone to go vote, someone they don’t know. In relational organizing, you’re talking to people who you do know and that’s really effective because you talking to your father to go vote or your sister or your friend is a lot more effective than me telling them to go vote because I don’t know them. But with you, there’s a lot more connection or relationship built and more reason for them to be compelled to go vote.”

 

However, people who take part in this relational organizing campaign—whom the group calls “community mobilizers”—are paid per person who they deliver to the Wisconsin Takes Action database and, ultimately, to the polls to cast a vote for Protasiewicz.

 

This is in direct violation of Wisconsin Statute § 12.11, which provides that “any person who offers, gives, lends or promises to give or lend…anything of value…to, or for, any elector, or to or for any other person in order to induce any elector to go or refrain from going to the polls, vote or refrain from voting [or] vote or refrain from voting for or against a particular person" commits felony election bribery.

 

In its Zoom training, the Wisconsin Takes Action staffers made it abundantly clear that they were offering money only if their mobilizers would induce their friends and family to go to the polls and vote, preferably for Protasiewicz.

 

The election bribery works this way: People on the Zoom call were told that they would first get $30, payable in gift cards to various retailers or a Mastercard debit card, to download an app through the Empower Project, a left-wing organization that, according to its website, helps “progressive organizations and nonprofits… activate, build, and expand their activist bases and organizational reach on a meaningful scale.”

Investigation: Americans Charged $66M to Help Illegal Aliens Fight Deportation

 

American taxpayers across a number of towns and cities are being charged to the tune of more than $66 million, often passed through a group linked to billionaire George Soros, to help illegal aliens fight their deportations from the United States.

 

The investigation conducted by the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) reveals the extent to which taxpayers across about 50 towns, cities, and counties are footing the bill to keep illegal aliens in their communities.

 

Specifically, the Vera Institute of Justice has hugely expanded its contracts with cities and counties that work to defend illegal aliens fighting deportation using taxpayer funds.

 

The investigation details:

 

Vera uses a simple, straightforward strategy. It targets liberal cities and counties, lobbying them to establish funds to pay for lawyers to represent foreigners in deportation proceedings. Interested localities are encouraged by Vera to join its SAFE (Safety and Fairness for Everyone) Network. This is an association of city and county governments across the country that spend public funds on lawyers to represent non-citizens contesting their deportation orders. [Emphasis added]

 

Vera entices local governments by offering matching grants to a portion of the costs associated with the first year of a deportation defense fund. For example, a city may decide to join the SAFE Network and accept a $100,000 donation from Vera, but city officials must fork over $100,000 of taxpayer money in order to receive that grant. Accordingly, for the initial year, the participating city will effectively double the funds available to it. (In our hypothetical, $100,000 becomes $200,000 through Vera’s matching grant). The Vera Institute of Justice not only has ties to Soros’s Open Society Foundation but also major corporate backers like the Tides Foundation, the Rockefeller Family Fund, and the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

 

According to IRLI investigators, “cash-strapped American families are laying out roughly $66,145,000 for lawyers to try and keep illegal aliens, foreign criminals, and other immigration violators” through such contracts like those sought after by the Vera Institute of Justice. … facing staggering budgetary shortfalls, states, cities and towns across America have increasingly reduced expenditures on essential services such as police protection and public transportation. Nevertheless, the number of jurisdictions establishing deportation defense funds continues to grow. And the cost to U.S. taxpayers is staggering.

 

What’s worse, is the longer those immigration violators remain in America, the more they tend to cost us – placing a fiscal burden on public schools, the criminal justice system, and our transportation infrastructure. [Emphasis added]

Jeffrey Epstein’s convicted sex trafficking accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell has been thrown into solitary confinement in her Florida prison, according to reports.

 

Maxwell was reportedly taken to solitary confinement by authorities at the Federal Correctional Institute Tallahassee after she declared that dead pedophile Epstein “was murdered.”

 

She was allegedly punished over a recorded jailhouse interview that aired in January.

 

Epstein was found dead in a New York jail cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges.

 

His death was officially ruled as a suicide but many believe he was murdered due to the dirt he had on powerful elites.

 

During Maxwell’s recent interview, she asserted that Epstein was murdered to ensure his silence.

 

Maxwell, who was convicted of procuring underage girls for Epstein and his powerful friends, “was handcuffed and slung into solitary confinement for 48 hours after prison authorities accused her of profiting from a media interview,” the Daily Mail reported Monday.

 

“She protested her innocence but was marched off to the Special Housing Unit (SHU) — a ‘prison within a prison’ comprising tiny, grim cells where inmates are locked up for 23 hours at a time and fed through slits in the door.”

 

The Daily Mail quotes unnamed “insiders” as saying thatthe inmate they know as “Max” was suddenly taken away.

 

They saidMaxwell “was just minding her own business when they came in, turned her around, and handcuffed her.”

 

“She got really upset, she was crying, she was yelling that she hadn’t received any money, but nobody saw her again for three days.”

 

“The SHU is not a nice place,” the Mail’s source said.

 

“It’s like a little box and you’re only allowed out to shower once a day.

 

“There’s no contact from anyone, no privileges, they slide your meals through a slot.”

 

According to the report, Maxwell’s interview was aired on January 23 on TalkTV.

 

The interview would have violated the terms of her 20-year federal prison sentence if she received payment for the appearance.

And at least 50 people were arrested in the nationwide demonstrations, which blocked roads, disrupted train service, and drew thousands out to march. In one video widely shared online, Border Police were seen subduing a man in Tel Aviv while kneeling on his neck.

 

Footage from the scene at Hashalom Interchange in Tel Aviv showed police deploying tear gas, stun grenades, and horses, to calls of “shame” by the protesters.

 

A short while later, police began using water cannons in an attempt to disperse crowds. Several protesters told media outlets they were wounded in altercations with police at the mass rally.

 

A video showed a group of officers wrestling with a demonstrator before bringing him down to the ground, and one cop kneeling on his neck to subdue him while several others held him down.

 

In a statement, police chief Kobi Shabtai said several police officers were injured in clashes with demonstrators. He said police were committed to allowing protests and free speech so long as demonstrators do not disturb the peace.

 

“Violence against police officers, such as throwing stones and objects at police officers is, for me, crossing a line, which we will not allow,” he said.

 

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused opposition leader MK Yair Lapid of sowing anarchy, saying Lapid’s calls to protest the judicial plan without agreeing to hold compromise talks with the government was a ploy to force fresh elections.

ALBANY, Ga. – Sixteen individuals are facing federal bank fraud and aggravated identity theft charges alleging their participation in a stolen mail scheme in and around the Americus, Georgia, community and Florida amounting to more than $165,000.

 

The federal indictment was returned on Feb. 15 charging the following defendants:

 

Jalen Tylee Hill aka “Roscoe Hill,” 24, of Americus, is charged with 68 counts of bank fraud, one count of fraud in connection with identification documents, 42 counts of aggravated identity theft and one count of conspiracy to possess stolen mail. On each count if convicted, Hill faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine for bank fraud, a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for fraud in connection with identification documents, two years in prison and a $250,000 fine for aggravated identity theft and a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 for possession of stolen mail;

 

Tyavia Deashia Richardson, 21, of Edison, Georgia, is charged with three counts of bank fraud. If convicted, Richardson faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine per count;

 

Quontavius Markee Hill, 31, of Americus, is charged with six counts of bank fraud. If convicted, Hill faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine per count;

 

Laquashia Nichole French, 25, of Americus, is charged with six counts of bank fraud. If convicted, French faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine per count;

LOS ANGELES – An indictment was unsealed today charging Terren S. Peizer, the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ontrak Inc., a Henderson, Nevada-based publicly traded health care company, for allegedly engaging in an insider trading scheme in which he fraudulently used Rule 10b5-1 trading plans to trade Ontrak stock.

 

“Mr. Peizer is accused of using his insider knowledge as CEO of a publicly traded company to line his own pockets in violation of his duty to his company and its shareholders,” said United States Attorney Martin Estrada. “Mr. Peizer allegedly exploited material nonpublic information and tried to shield himself with a rule designed to ensure a fair and level playing field for all investors. With this indictment, we again affirm that the law applies equally to all and that corporate executives who unlawfully denigrate the integrity of our financial markets will be held accountable.”

 

According to court documents, between May and August 2021, Peizer, 63, a resident of Puerto Rico and Santa Monica, allegedly avoided more than $12.5 million in losses by entering into two Rule 10b5-1 trading plans while in possession of material, nonpublic information concerning the serious risk that Ontrak’s then-largest customer would terminate its contract. In May 2021, Peizer allegedly entered into his first 10b5-1 trading plan shortly after learning that the relationship between Ontrak and the customer was deteriorating and that the customer had expressed serious reservations about continuing its contract with Ontrak.

 

The indictment alleges that Peizer later learned that the customer informed Ontrak of its intent to terminate the contract. Then, in August 2021, Peizer allegedly entered into his second 10b5-1 trading plan approximately one hour after Ontrak’s chief negotiator for the contract confirmed to Peizer that the contract likely would be terminated.

 

In establishing his 10b5-1 plans, Peizer allegedly refused to engage in any “cooling-off” period – the time between when he entered into the plan and when he sold stock – despite warnings from two brokers. Instead, Peizer allegedly began selling shares of Ontrak on the next trading day after establishing each plan. On Aug. 19, 2021, just six days after Peizer adopted his August 10b5-1 plan, Ontrak announced that the customer had terminated its contract and Ontrak’s stock price declined by more than 44%.

 

“Today’s groundbreaking insider trading indictment demonstrates that the Department of Justice, together with our law enforcement partners, will not allow corrupt executives to misuse 10b5-1 plans as a shield for insider trading,” said Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite, Jr. of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “As this case shows, we have embraced the use of data to proactively identify and investigate fraud as we continue to ensure that ordinary investors are on an equal playing field with corporate insiders.”

 

“The FBI and our partners are committed to holding insiders accountable at all levels, including those who act in bad faith when establishing trading plans in order to evade regulations,” said Assistant Director in Charge Donald Alway of the FBI Los Angeles Field Office. “Americans must have trust in the marketplace and that can only be achieved when offenders who violate their obligations are held responsible.”

 

Peizer is charged with one count of engaging in a securities fraud scheme and two counts of securities fraud for insider trading. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison on the securities fraud scheme charge and 20 years in prison on each of the insider trading charges.

 

The indictment represents the first time that the Department of Justice has brought criminal insider trading charges stemming from an executive’s use of a 10b5-1 trading plan. The investigation is part of a data-driven initiative led by the Fraud Section to identify executive abuses of 10b5-1 trading plans.

 

Rule 10b5-1 trading plans can offer an executive a defense to insider trading charges. However, the defense is unavailable if the executive is in possession of material, nonpublic information at the time he or she enters into the 10b5-1 trading plan. Additionally, a plan does not protect an executive if the trading plan was not entered into in good faith or was entered into as part of an effort or scheme to evade the prohibitions of Rule 10b5-1.

Judge Calls Second Amendment Protection Laws Racist and Anti-Semitic

 

The Oregon Court of Appeals has struck down the Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance in Columbia County, an ordinance OFF has been defending with Gun Owners of America.

 

And while that is not a particular surprise, what is a surprise was the scathing, incendiary, and frightening “concurring opinion” from Judge Egan.

 

In his vicious attack, Egan equated ordinances protecting the Second Amendment with white supremacists and anti-semites.

 

In the opening page of his opinion, Egan attacks the ordinance and the people who argued for it saying :

 

“In other words, Intervenors came before this court and referenced UN mandates,which as explained below is a well documented trope meant to invoke white supremacist, antisemitic fear of a takeover of our country by outsiders and minorities who are manipulated by an elite class of supervillians.

 

On occasion, however, individual members of the court must call out illegitimate quasi-legal arguments and theories for what they are-viz., antisemitic and racist tropes. “

 

On page 6 of his screed he titles one section “The Antisemitic and Racist Origins of the Ordinance”

 

He claims that constitutional sheriffs “ embrace racist and white nationalist ideologies.”

 

He claims, referring to constitutional sheriffs:

 

“The premise of such writings is the antisemitic and racist conspiracy theory that Jews are at the heart of America’s problems, that people of color are unwitting pawns to be manipulated by one side or the other, and that zealots must prepare for a final battle in the last days. The proponents of these ideas claim that a cabal of elites or globalists (code words for Jews) in the UN, or the fictional New World Order or Zionist Occupational Government, manipulate our federal government and, by extension, state governments. These ideas are, of course, nothing new, unique, or intelligent: They are, instead, just a rehashing of the ancient trope of a secret Jewish government; they are the retelling of a lie that led to the murder of over six million Jews within living memory.”

 

But there’s more. He continues:

 

“Intervenor’s reference at oral argument about UN mandates in support of an absolute right to firearms threatens to give legal foundation to a world view that embraces religious, racial, and ethnic hatred. The arguments propounding unfettered access to guns, ammunitions, and implements of destruction give rise to waging of war on government because the proponents believe that our government is infected by those they hate. This hate is unquestionably embedded in the trope that the UN or some other nefarious entity is manipulating government behind the scenes and that the courts are simply tools of those manipulations. As a judge, sworn to uphold the Oregon constitution and the United States Constitution, I cannot stand by without identifying the origins of that argument, and the origins of the Ordinance.”
